How and when to change the brake fluid on VAZ cars. Do-it-yourself brake fluid replacement Lada Granta Brake fluid brand for lada 4

Carry out preventive maintenance of the brake circuit together with a partner, it is extremely difficult to "pump" the system alone. For maximum access to the loop, use the observation channel or roadside overpass.

Step-by-step instructions for replacing brake fluid with Lada Vesta

  1. We install the car in the perimeter of the repair area.
  2. Unscrew the wheel.
  3. We clean the working area of \u200b\u200bthe hub from dirt.
  4. The partner pumps the brake pedal.
  5. Fixes it in the lower position, holds it.
  6. Unscrew the grease gun on the hub.
  7. Drain (bleed off) excess DOT liquid.
  8. We pump the pedal again.
  9. We bleed the air again.
  10. Replenishing the missing amount of DOT.
  11. We repeat the pumping procedure as needed.

Where is the brake caliper

In cars of the Lada Vesta family, the grease gun is located on the brake caliper. Expansion tank for refilling DOT - in the engine compartment, on the right.
The standard arrangement of the caliper, the grease fittings on each of the wheels is identical.

Fluid replacement resource. Consequences of violation of deadlines

AvtoVAZ engineers recommend updating the DOT every 45,000 km. In practice, the interval is reduced to 35-40 thousand km due to the poor quality of the liquid.
The consequences of an untimely DOT change can be different, up to an emergency.

Replacement signs

  • reduced braking efficiency;
  • increase in stopping distance;
  • increased pedal free travel;
  • stiffness of the course, low information content of the pedal;
  • on the dashboard, an indicator signals a malfunction in the brake circuit;
  • the brake fluid level is below the minimum allowed in the expansion tank.

Sequence of actions for self-changing fluid

Required tools, materials:

  • key for "10", "14", cylinder for "17";
  • rags;
  • additional lighting;
  • Pillbox for filling;
  • new brake pads as needed.

Algorithm of actions:

  1. We hang the car with an electric lift.
  2. We open the hood.
  3. We unscrew the cover of the brake fluid expansion tank.
  4. We remove the wheel.
  5. In the cabin, the partner pumps the brake pedal, fixes it in the lower position. Awaiting commands.
  6. On the back of the brake caliper, clean the surface, remove dirt, wipe dry.
  7. Unscrew the grease gun with a key on "10", bleed the air together with the liquid.
  1. We twist, give a command to the partner to repeat the pumping procedure.
  2. We repeat the step again.
  3. We fill the missing amount of pillboxes in the expansion tank.

After completing the pumping of one wheel, immediately proceed to the next one according to the scheme:

  • Front left - rear right;
  • Front right - rear left.

The algorithm indicated above does not allow to completely replace the bunker in the circuits. The design of the car is such that it is impossible to "flush" the system without major dismantling.

Many service station mechanics use a channel in the hydraulic drive to replace the brake fluid:

  1. From the front of the motor, we find the fitting of the hydraulic drive.
  2. Remove the plastic cap from it.
  3. We put on a hose, one end of which we lower into a container with liquid.
  4. We recessed the bracket.
  5. Pull out the plastic tube.
  1. The system was depressurized, the bunker under the influence of pressure flows out of the hose.
  2. As soon as the level in the expansion tank drops below the minimum, we fill the missing amount.
  3. We repeat the cleansing procedure until the color of the pillbox becomes transparent.

The volume of the pillbox, which is poured into Lada Vesta - 1.5 liters.

How to replace and which one to choose brake fluid for Lada Priora

According to the technical inspection card, the brake fluid for the Lada Priora should be replaced every 45 thousand km or every 2 years. Over time, during operation, the fluid loses its properties, which affects the braking efficiency. The used brake fluid has a dark shade, while the new one is light.

What brake fluid to choose for Priora

The manufacturer fills in DOT 4. The most popular among buyers are brake fluids ROSDOT 4 and NEVA-M. The first option is more expensive than the second cheaper. For vehicles with and without ABS, it is recommended to use different types of fluids.

  • DOT-4 plus for vehicles without ABS
  • DOT-4 class 6 is designed for modern braking systems (ABS, ESP, VSA)

Depending on the capacity, the cost of the brake fluid indicated above is from 50 to 150 rubles.

You can also pour DOT 5.1 liquid. It has a lower viscosity than the above samples, as well as a higher boiling point and, according to the manufacturers, it changes once every five years.

It is forbidden to mix liquids of different types with each other!

Replacement brake liquids on Lada Priora do it yourself

Replacement will require:

  • The actual brake fluid itself
  • Syringe to remove old fluid
  • dry rag
  • utensils for old liquid
  • rubber hose, the diameter of which must match the bleed nipples on wheels
  • Special brake wrench 8 x 10 mm

Topping up brake fluid LADA KALINA

In this issue of "Technical Environment" its host Gennady Emelkin will talk about how to replace it yourself.

First, we need to use a syringe to pump out the old brake fluid, while leaving a small layer of it in the tank so that air does not get into the system.

Now pour new brake fluid into the reservoir up to the max level.

Now it is necessary to completely remove the old fluid from the system by pumping it over and filling it with new fluid.

The sequence of bleeding the brakes on the Priora

  1. Rear right caliper
  2. Rear left caliper
  3. Front Right Caliper
  4. Front Left Caliper

It is in this sequence that the brake system should be pumped.

Bleeding the brake system with your own hands

Each wheel has a dedicated bleed nipple to bleed air from the brake system. It is through it that air and old liquid must be removed.

A rubber hose prepared by us is put on the fitting and lowered into a bowl to drain the old liquid. In this case, the hose in the dishes should also be in the liquid so that there is no air leak.

Using the brake wrench, we sequentially unscrew the union on each wheel and pump over the old liquid from the system until it is clean. You will need an assistant who will have to swing the brake pedal, your task is to drain the old fluid.

That is, the assistant swings the brake pedal 5-10 times and clamps it. You unscrew the fitting a little, drain the liquid. The assistant again shakes the pedal, then squeezes you again drain the liquid. And so it must be done with each wheel.

While bleeding the brakes, watch the fluid level in the reservoir, it should not be empty.

Brake fluid is used not only to organize the operation of the brake system, but also to ensure the smooth movement of the clutch mechanisms, as is the case with the Lada Kalina car.

This is explained by the fact that in this model the clutch and brake mechanisms have the same operating principle. By pressing the pedal, the brake fluid is injected to the brakes, as well as to the clutch mechanism, due to which the entire vehicle is braked.

What brake fluid must be used on Lada Kalina

During operation, it is recommended to use brake fluids manufactured by ROSDOT 4 and NEVA-M, since their products are of the highest quality and most suitable for this car in comparison with others.

The difference between the two is cost, and the first option will cost a little more. As for the initial liquid that is poured into the car, AvtoVAZ uses DOT 4.

In this case, the liquid may differ in composition, depending on which vehicle it is intended for. Below is a table with the used brake fluids.

Also in Lada Kalina you can use DOT 5.1. It differs from the rest in a more viscous consistency and an increased boiling point. According to the manufacturer, the replacement of this fluid is carried out every five years.

In the case of Kalina, it is recommended to change the fluid about once every 45 thousand kilometers or every two years. This is explained by the fact that during operation, the fluid loses its original properties, which negatively affects the operation of the elements of the brake system.

How to fill in brake fluid correctly

First of all, it is worth noting that it is possible to identify damaged brake fluid due to its darkened color and thickened consistency. Replacement will require the following materials and tools:

  • New brake fluid.

  • Syringe for removing old fluid.
  • Dry rag.
  • Container for draining old fluid.
  • Rubber hose, the opening of which must fit under the bleed nipples on the wheels of the car.
  • Brake wrench 8 x 10 mm.

Where is the liquid

You can find brake fluid in the brake hoses. It also occurs in:

  • master cylinder;
  • brake reservoir.

It is worth noting that almost every experienced owner of Lada Kalina knows where the braking system is located and how it works. If there is no such knowledge, then it is better to study the structure of the car before replacing it or still turn to professionals at the service station for help.

When choosing an option for self-replacement, the first thing to do is to carry out preparatory work:

  • Place the car on an overpass or pit.
  • Disconnect the internal combustion engine and install wheel chocks.
  • Disconnect the battery terminals.

Draining

First of all, during the replacement, the old fluid is drained. It is performed as follows:

  • Unscrew the lid of the tank. It contains the brake fluid. The lid can be set aside, but it is better to lay a rag under it, since the composition is in excellent contact with the surrounding surfaces, not influencing them very well.

  • The next step is to unlock the rear wheel pressure regulator, if necessary. To unlock this structure, you will need to install a screwdriver between the plate and the piston.
  • After that, you should prepare a hose and a container for draining the old fluid. It's best to use an empty bottle if you don't have a container on hand. Before draining, it is necessary to clean the fitting from dirt with a brush. Subsequently, a hose will be attached to the fitting.

  • As soon as the fitting is cleaned, you will need to remove the cap from it and insert one end of the hose into the hole, and the other should go into the container or bottle. Then you will need the help of a second person. He will need to get into the car and press the brake pedal several times. This must be done abruptly so that the liquid can be drained, but between each pressing it is necessary to maintain a short break.

  • As soon as the liquid stops flowing, it is necessary to pull out the hose from the hole, wipe the fitting with a rag and close it with a cap. In this case, it is worth tightening the cover correctly. So, for example, if in the process of unscrewing it was loosened by 3/4, then it should be tightened by the same amount.

  • The final action will be to start pouring the new composition while tightening the union. As soon as new liquid begins to flow out of the existing hole, you can tighten the cap completely.

This fluid drain diagram is for the rear brakes. As for the front, the procedure is practically no different. The main difference lies only in the location of the fittings, but this will not be a problem if you familiarize yourself with the structure of the car and the brake system in advance.

Thus, the brake fluid is drained from both the front and rear brakes, after which it will be possible to start filling with new fluid.

The bay

It is required to fill in liquid during the draining procedure. Moreover, both actions should be performed not simultaneously, but in a certain sequence. In other words, it is impossible to fill in a new composition of liquid until at least half of the old one has been drained.

When carrying out work, several points should be taken into account:

  • Do not allow air to enter the brake system. This leads to a deterioration in the performance of the brake pedal - resistance changes.
  • The bubbles must not be in the bottle or hose either. If a similar situation has arisen, then you cannot fill in new fluid until the entire brake system has been pumped and air has been removed from it.

At the end of the replacement, the necessary elements are reassembled and checked by turning on the engine. If there are no problems, then the amount of liquid in the tank is additionally checked, and, if necessary, topping up to the required volume should be carried out.

Brake fluid in a Lada Kalina car is an important constituent element, thanks to which the safe control of the entire vehicle is carried out.

Therefore, it is worth monitoring the condition of the liquid, as well as its level, in order to avoid serious problems, and timely replace it. It should also be noted that in some situations, old brake fluid or its leak can become the root cause of a serious accident, since in this case the car simply will not brake.

The car braking system can be called one of the most important in the operation of a car, because without it more than one vehicle cannot exist. Therefore, for the brakes to function flawlessly, the system components must be reliable. Is no exception brake fluid VAZ, in this publication we will figure out what kind of liquid is needed and after what period of time is needed brake fluid change .

Not every car enthusiast knows that the fluid in the brake system needs to be changed from time to time. Some believe that only periodic topping up of brake fluid is necessary so that air particles do not appear in the system, which will impair the performance of the brakes. However, this opinion is not entirely correct, although it is not worth giving up this operation. The fact is that during the operation of the car, moisture forms in the drive of the brake system, which it safely absorbs brake fluid... The presence of moisture in a liquid is no less dangerous than the presence of air in it, since the work in this case becomes ineffective and corrodes. Based on this, it is recommended that brake fluid change was carried out not only on the recommendation of the manufacturer, but also with the independent detection of moisture and air in it.

How to determine if you need a brake fluid replacement

As a rule, the manufacturer, in the lists of work performed during routine maintenance, determines its own brake fluid replacement interval for each vehicle separately. For example, this interval is 45,000 km. mileage or at least three years of operation. The replacement period can also be influenced by the type of brake fluid and the design of the brake system. However, car owners are advised to visually inspect the fluid from time to time, while paying attention to its color. If looking into brake fluid reservoir, you will see that it has a dirty tint, this indicates that some elements are worn out, respectively, in this case, its full diagnostics is recommended. If the liquid has a brownish tint, this is a sign that water is present in it. In any of the above cases, it is necessary brake fluid change.

What kind of brake fluid is needed for a VAZ

All brake fluid has its own classification, which indicates its composition and properties. At the moment, there are several brands of TZ - DOT 3, 4, 5 and 5.1., There is also another outdated type of BSK brake fluid, which is still used on old cars.

  1. DOT 3 made on a glycol basis, which contains anti-corrosion and lubricating additives. DOT 3 is recommended for slow speed vehicles with front and rear drum brakes. Brake fluid DOT 3 reacts poorly to negative temperatures and at -40 degrees its viscosity increases, which negatively affects the operation of the brake system. Therefore, it is extremely undesirable to fill in such a liquid on cars operated in the northern regions.
  2. DOT 4 It is also made on a glycol basis, but unlike DOT 3, it contains additives that increase the boiling point of the brake fluid, which allows it to be used on high-speed cars, where decelerating mechanisms are exposed to high temperatures during braking.
  3. DOT 5 It is made on a silicone basis and also has rather high temperature conditions - 180-260 degrees. With and lower viscosity 900 sq. mm / s. DOT brake fluid 5 is more suitable for cars with powerful amps, which tend to be fast and difficult to drive.
  4. DOT 5.1 it is made on a glycol basis, but with DOT 5 properties. Increased boiling level, more anti-corrosion additives, and also a low viscosity - 900 sq. mm / s., used on vehicles with powerful mi.
  5. BSK - this type includes those made on the basis of Butyl Alcohol and Castor oil, hence the given abbreviation in the name. It has very low boiling indications of TJ (115-120 degrees C), as well as at - 20 grams. it crystallizes, which removes the vehicle's brake system from the working state.

Can brake fluids be mixed?

Theoretically, brake fluids based on the same component, for example, DOT 3, DOT 4, DOT 5.1 contain glycol, should be mixed, however, due to the presence of a certain set of additives in them, this can only be done in extreme cases. after which a complete replacement of the brake fluid is mandatory. Do not use TJ in a brake system that is designed for a certain type, for example, filling DOT 5, which is made on a silicone base, in a system for DOT 3, DOT 4, DOT 5.1 rubber elements of drives (cuffs, oil seals) may fail.
