  • We clean with sandpaper until the surface is as flat as possible;
  • Apply a filler with fiberglass and again wait for it to dry completely, and then process it with sandpaper;
  • Apply a layer of putty, but without fiberglass and wait and clean again;
  • We prime, and then paint in color with the body.

As a result, we did not use any of the above methods, we get an updated look of our beloved nine and thus get enthusiastic glances from passers-by.

Given the current opportunities in terms of buying spare parts, materials, tools, as well as the relative simplicity of the VAZ 2109 car design, doing body repairs with your own hands is not the most difficult task. Many do their own bodywork, not inferior in quality to specialized workshops.

Preparatory work

Before starting work, the buffer is removed from the car body. The dismantled part is thoroughly washed and dried. Remove the paintwork with a grinder. Degrease. Examine the buffer for chips, dents and cracks. Eliminate these malfunctions, putty.

When sanding, after removing each layer of paint, the place is degreased.

New bumper manufacturing process

The process of preparing a part for work is somewhat different. You will need to remove the standard body kit. It will be used as the basis for the new part. Cover the body element with construction tape. Apply fine-grained polyurethane foam, plasticine or polystyrene. It is necessary to create a single monolithic block from this material. To create and reshape the new bumper, you need a sharp knife. With its help, the main lines of the product, air ducts, niches for fog lights and a license plate are formed.

After applying the foam, it should dry well.

After shaping the future product, a layer of fiberglass is applied to the polished base. At the same time, they try to avoid the appearance of folds and air bubbles. A layer of epoxy resin is applied to the glass canopy. The procedure is repeated 3-5 times. They allow the parts to dry, polish, remove defects and irregularities with a putty, grind again, apply a primer and paint. After the paintwork has dried, the product is installed on the car.

When working with epoxy and fiberglass, it is recommended to wear protective gloves and a respirator.

Improving the stock bumper

To give the standard bumper of the car a more attractive appearance, or to further equip the part with additional components, the body kit is tuned.

This process is done by gluing and soldering. You need to stock up on a donor body kit. It is important that the type of plastic of the standard object and the donor object is the same. After the formation of parts and elements to update the buffer, they are soldered together with a powerful soldering iron. To give the structure strength, it is reinforced with metal elements. Instead of sealing, you can use gluing two or more components of the future body kit. After applying the adhesive, the resulting structure is dried using a building hair dryer. Further, it is sanded, defects are removed with a putty, polished, primed, painted and installed on the car.

The tuned car looks stylish and aggressive. They put in the modernized buffer, and instead of the thresholds, install skirts created in the same way as the buffers.
