What is the difference between manual transmissions on LADA XRAY. Manual gearboxes LADA XRAY: differences How to find out which gearbox is on x ray

Until the release, the Lada X Rey model remained a rather expected car for a number of obvious reasons. First of all, modern design, economical and efficient motors, as well as the presence of an automatic transmission, combined with an acceptable price against the background of competitors in this class, made the Lada XRAY model quite popular and in demand.

At the same time, maximum attention was initially focused on the type of transmission and features. Next, we will consider what a fret X Ray with automatic transmission is, what an automatic transmission is for X Ray, and also what to look for when choosing a version of Lada X Ray, an automatic transmission.

Xray Lada model: automatic transmission

As you know, the modern car industry today offers several types of automatic transmissions at once. Until recently, the most common was the so-called, which for a long time was actually the only available option. This type of machine is quite reliable, provides high comfort and smoothness while driving, maintainability, etc. However, there are also downsides.

Given the fact that classic automatic transmissions are expensive to manufacture and subsequent maintenance, complex in terms of design and repair, and are often not economical solutions (due to reduced efficiency and losses in), engineers and automakers are constantly looking for cheaper and more cost-effective options.

At one time I tried to compete with a torque converter automatic transmission, but certain features did not allow the variator transmission to supplant the traditional automatic transmission. For this reason, the next type of automatic transmission was the robot. Moreover, today there are two types of robotic gearboxes at once - single-disk (with one clutch) and.

  • Each of these types of "robots" has both pros and cons, but many manufacturers began to actively install such gearboxes on their cars instead of the usual hydromechanical automatic or CVT. The Lada Ixrei model was no exception.

So, on the Xray model, robotic gear shifting is implemented, and the type of the box is. In other words, this car is not equipped with an automatic, but a robotic gearbox. Now let's look at what features the Lada X Rey automatic robotic box has.

First of all, Khrei is a front-wheel drive car, the main power unit for this model is a gasoline engine with a displacement of 1.6 liters and a capacity of 114 hp. from. Such a motor assumes installation in tandem with a 5-stage. The manufacturer also offers a more powerful 1.8-liter engine with an automatic AMT robot.

  • So, AMT is the same 5-speed manual transmission, however, instead of manual control, the transmission operates under the control of an ECU and special actuators (servomechanisms, actuators).

    Otherwise, mechanisms were additionally installed on the standard five-speed manual transmission that are responsible for engaging / disengaging the clutch, as well as for selecting the desired gear and engaging it in automatic mode and depending on various road conditions. All this is controlled by a special electronic unit, in the memory of which certain algorithms of work (software, firmware, software) are "wired".

Thus, the whole process is fully automated, which gives the driver the convenience of an automatic machine combined with high fuel efficiency, acceleration dynamics and reliability of a manual transmission. By the way, engineers, which specialize in the production of transmissions, as well as various components and assemblies for cars (both passenger cars and trucks) and other types of equipment, took a direct part in the creation of a robot box for Lada X Rey.

This AMT gearbox is already familiar to many motorists from the Kalina and Priora models, but there the box is installed in tandem with a 1.6 liter 106 hp engine On the Lada X-RAY, the engine is more powerful and larger in volume (1.8 liters and 122 hp), as a result of which the robot box was additionally adapted to work in tandem with such an internal combustion engine.

Also, when developing AMT for Ixrei, not only another engine was separately taken into account, but also the weight of the car, various technical characteristics, etc. Even the automatic transmission Lada X Rey was being finalized in real conditions (the pre-production version was actively tested by German specialists). After a series of tests, many important changes were made to the algorithms of the AMT.

One way or another, the model went into series. The AMT box turned out to be cheap to manufacture (which influenced the final cost of Lada Khrei) and quite economical. The main task facing the developers was successfully solved.

At the same time, even taking into account all the modifications and adaptations, as well as the low cost, not all drivers like such an automatic machine. In other words, before buying a car with such an automatic transmission, you need to separately take into account certain disadvantages of the AMT box.

Disadvantages of the AMT robot on the Lada Xray

On the one hand, the car received a new modern engine from AvtoVAZ (16-valve VAZ-21179, volume 1.8 liters, power 122 hp, 170 Nm.). It would seem that with such characteristics of the internal combustion engine, paired with an adapted and tuned robot, the dynamics should be excellent. However, on the other hand, it is the shortcomings of the AMT box in this bundle that are fully manifested.

Immediately, we note that there is no fault of ZF specialists who developed the gearbox and software. The main problem is that AMT boxes themselves, although cheap, are far from an ideal solution, which is confirmed by the sad experience of many manufacturers around the world.

AvtoVAZ is also well aware of this, but the priority is to save money and reduce the cost of the car in any way in order to be able to compete. To be clear, single-disk robots like AMT are the cheapest type of robotic gearboxes.

  • If you do not go into details, immediately after the development they began to be installed by the largest automakers (European, Japanese, etc.). As a result, such robots found themselves under the hoods of budget models, as well as on cars from the middle segment of 2006-2009 (for example, Toyota, Ford, Honda, Opel, Peugeot, etc.).

Taking into account the fact that these machines were positioned as an affordable replacement for the "classic" automatic transmissions and advertising companies focused on their advantages, many car owners purchased cars with such an automatic robot. However, it later became clear that.

First of all, due to the design features (automated mechanics), when driving, a driver who has moved from a “classic” machine immediately notices jerks, delays and failures. The reason is a mechanical clutch instead of a gas turbine engine, as well as delays in the actuation of servo mechanisms, since time is spent on switching on / off, selecting and changing gears, etc.

These disadvantages are in fact a more serious disadvantage than the advantages of AMT in the form of low cost, as well as good acceleration dynamics simultaneously with better fuel efficiency.

It should also be noted that in the future, the owners of the robots also faced rapid wear of the clutch and breakdowns of the servomechanisms that control the box, already by 80-100 thousand km. mileage. On many cars, it was required to regularly adapt the clutch (every 15-20 thousand km), and the clutch itself "went" about 60-80 thousand km.

If we add to this the rather high cost of servomechanisms and their low maintainability, combined with the high cost of individual spare parts for AMT, then such robotic mechanics in terms of reliability turned out to be not at all the "unkillable" unit (by analogy with manual transmissions) as many expected.

As a result, large world manufacturers began to quickly abandon this type of robotic gearbox in favor of "classic" automatic transmissions, CVTs or the newest preselective double-clutch robotic gearboxes ().

  • If we talk about Lada Xray with a robot, even taking into account the modifications, the potential of a powerful engine cannot be fully realized with a box of this type. The car "bites" its nose when switching, there are unexpected failures and pauses.

In fact, the box works more or less predictably only in a quiet mode, but with dynamic driving, you can forget about smoothness and instant responsiveness. Even the manual mode does not save (by analogy with), since it is also semi-automatic.

Also, unlike an automatic transmission, with an AMT gearbox, the car itself does not go forward after the driver releases the brake pedal. To be more precise, XRAY will start moving only after the driver presses the gas, which clearly complicates the process of moving in traffic jams.

Let's sum up

As you can see, if you need a car with automatic transmission and the priority is Lada X Rey, the automatic transmission on this model is both an advantage and a disadvantage. First of all, the transmission itself is not an automatic automatic transmission, but an automated mechanics AMT (robotic gearbox) with all the pros and cons that we discussed above.

As practice shows, today such boxes are usually put on cheap cars to reduce the cost. Also, although the design of the gearbox itself is relatively simple and reliable, the weak point is the clutch and actuators, and the latter can quickly fail, are difficult to repair and are expensive.

Finally, we note that robots of the AMT type are more suitable for calm drivers who prefer a measured driving style. With active acceleration, ragged pace of driving, maneuvering and constant rearrangements, jerks, jerks and failures are inevitable.

Also, the operating conditions directly affect the service life of robots of the AMT type. These boxes may require maintenance and repair by 80 thousand km. (at least replacing the clutch) if the car is operated in a busy city in a start-stop mode. To increase the resource of AMT and its elements, how does it differ from automatic transmission, as well as how to maintain it and what cannot be done with a robotic transmission of this type.

    There are three gearbox options for xRay, two of which were developed by the French, and the third by AvtoVAZ itself. The first two options have a five-speed mechanical gear shift, and the domestic gearbox is a robotic automatic. Domestic AMT transmission quickly proved to be the most reliable and high-quality among this type of gearbox. When used, the driver can quickly switch between mechanical and automatic modes.

    Gearboxes are divided into the following options:

    Mechanics in lada xRay

    The X Rhee manual transmission is divided into two variants: JR5518 and JR3512. Although they both have 5 gears, they differ in the clarity of the shift and the reliability of the transmission as a whole. Unlike the old gearboxes used by the manufacturer, the new ones are much quieter and vibrate less. The travel of the shift lever has become smooth and easy to move, which reduces the applied forces while driving.

    In addition, the new gearboxes use much less oil thanks to the shifting mechanism being moved to the upper sphere. These changes led to a decrease in the likelihood of difficult gear shifting in negative temperatures, as well as the complete disappearance of the problem with oil thickening and freezing.

    The gear shift module for x ray, which is responsible for the smoothness of the shift, was produced in Germany. Silence and durability of the box is betrayed by the secondary shaft and new synchronizers.

    Robotic checkpoint in xRay

    For strategic reasons, AvtoVAZ decided to replace the conventional automatic x ray with a robotic gearbox. Initially given, but after a while she was able to get an excellent reputation, showing in practice its advantages. She was able to bypass foreign counterparts in performance quality.

    It has built-in electrical components that compensate for the clutch operation. The clutch itself was produced by Valeo, and the actuators are from Germany. The box contains protection to prevent incorrect switching. The checkpoint is low. It offers both manual and automatic modes, as well as a gear reset mode. Gear changes are quick and free of twitching.

    The automatic transmission in xRay is able to adapt itself to the driving style and does not require warming up even in severe frosts. In general, the owners are positive, but there are also questions about its work. For example, the need to fix the pressing of the gas pedal or during the stop is not camping. In some cases, there may be slight twitching of the checkpoint.

    The Lada Xray car has been on the country's market for a long time. The Internet has accumulated a lot of reviews, wishes and complaints from the drivers of this car regarding the transmission. Recall that when designing this car, the designers faced a choice: how to equip the Lada's transmission, except for the version with mechanics. There were two options: an automatic gearbox and a robotic transmission. The decision made by AvtoVAZ was to choose the second option. After analyzing all the factors affecting the implementation of a particular box, the developers settled on the option with a robot. Why? And what came of it? Let's try to figure it out.

    Semi-automatic on Lada X Rey

    After the presentation of the Lada X Rey concept with a manual gearbox, the question of an alternative to mechanics remained open and was of great interest to potential consumers. The need to develop a variant of the box, in addition to a manual transmission, was unconditional. This is especially true for residents of megalopolises, who deal with such a phenomenon as traffic jams every day. It is physically not very convenient to switch speeds manually using a lever in this driving mode.

    The drivers wondered what kind of automatic machine would be on the X Ray, and it turned out to be a semi-automatic AMT (auto-mechanical transmission). During the time elapsed from the presentation of the Lada at the exhibition to its launch into mass production, AvtoVAZ decided to introduce a semi-automatic robotic box as the second version of the transmission. This type of transmission is a five-speed gearbox, similar in principle to a manual gearbox, in which the function of disengaging and engaging the clutch with the road is carried out by an electronic control system (because of this, it is usually called a robot).

    The box for Lada X Ray is developed on a five-speed platform from the VAZ 2180 and has similar technical characteristics. Moreover, the main mechanism of this checkpoint was not replaced, but only improved together with the German concern "Friedrichshafen".

    Reasons for choosing Togliatti residents in favor of a robot

    The robotic checkpoint at one time made a leap in the progress of the world auto industry. However, the experience of using this development by many foreign companies, as a kind of know-how, was not always unambiguous. In theory, this is a variant of the transmission, which is designed to create stubborn competition for automation on demand among consumers. But in reality, during the long-term practice of introducing this alternative, even the eminent European concerns had not entirely successful cases of producing cars with semi-automatic machines.

    There are many reasons for and against choosing such a transmission. And when choosing the best option, which system should be an alternative to mechanics, car factories compare many factors in favor of one or another box. The robot has its own advantages and disadvantages. In the case of AvtoVAZ, there were the following reasons for introducing a semi-automatic gearbox.

    1. Manufacturing a robot is less costly than an automatic machine.
    2. The prototype for the creation of the robot was the mechanics from the VAZ.
    3. One vehicle combines both manual and automatic shifting, which attracts more consumers.

    Regarding the first advantage from the list, it can be noted that when using it, the manufacturer significantly reduces the cost of manufacturing a car. Due to this, AvtoVAZ was able to offer a competitive price on the market.

    If X Ray was filled with an automatic transmission (automatic gearbox), then we can confidently say that the car would cost 50-100 thousand rubles more.

    The fact that the robot is developed on the VAZ platform is even more beneficial for the formation of a relatively low price. The third plus of X Ray, as mentioned above, attracts both lovers of automation and adherents of manual control. This advantage, in addition to simplifying pricing, makes the Xray model even more successful in terms of demand and marketing in general.

    Specifications and prices of complete sets with different boxes

    Lada Iks Rey is on sale in various configurations. The cost of the Lada also depends on these variations. The most budgetary version of X Ray with basic equipment can be purchased at a price of 590 thousand rubles. The most complete hatchback has a cost of just over 720 thousand rubles.

    The creators of this model have developed different types of motors for different transmission options. The five-speed mechanics is produced in combination with a domestic unit, the volume of which is 1.6 liters, and the amount of horsepower under the hood is only 106. Also, in tandem with a manual gearbox, a Japanese-style engine with a similar volume, but whose power is slightly more - 110 liters. from.

    AMT is combined with only one type of motor. The unit is more voluminous - 1.8 liters. With the increase in cylinder size, so did the amount of power of this car. It is 122 horsepower.

    We understand the features of the mechanical gearboxes of the Renault-Nissan alliance for the new Russian compact crossover.

    Today, future owners of LADA XRAY are offered to purchase a car in two versions: a foreign set with an engine from the Renault-Nissan H4M alliance (1.6 l. 110 hp) and a French manual transmission JH3, a Russian version with a new engine 21179 (1.8 l. 122 hp) produced by JSC AVTOVAZ and automated mechanical transmission LADA. A little later, official dealers will have a symbiosis of our 21129 engine (1.6 l. 106 hp) and a foreign JR5 gearbox of the Renault-Nissan alliance, which is already used on LADA Vesta cars.

    General points

    In this post, we'll take a look at the differences between the JH3 and JR5 manual transmissions for the new compact crossover. Both gearboxes are largely the same in design, but differ in clutch release assemblies, gear ratios in the gearbox, gearshift mechanisms and passenger comfort. Both one and the other gearbox for XRAY are made according to a two-shaft scheme, and have synchronizers for all forward movement gears, which are combined with a differential and a final drive. For first and second gears, a 3-cone synchronizer is used. For the third, fourth and fifth, conventional synchronizers are used. All boxes have foolproof protection and block reverse gear while moving forward. Transmission oil is poured into both boxes during production, the service life of which is equal to the service life of the entire car. Therefore, its replacement during routine maintenance of the vehicle is not performed.

    Visual differences

    The JHЗ transmission clutch release unit is a cable shift connected to the clutch pedal. The JR5 transmission clutch release assembly is a hydraulic slave cylinder. The slave cylinder is connected by a pipeline to the master cylinder, on the rod of which the clutch pedal acts. The JNZ gearbox is controlled by a rigid rod, and the JR5 gearbox is controlled by two flexible cables. As a result, the inclusion of gears of the box intended for the Russian motor will be more comfortable than it is done at the checkpoint for the Alliance motor. This will be especially noticeable on the very principle of inclusion, which will be made easier and without the click characteristic of traction control boxes. The advantage of the JH3 box will only be revealed at high speeds. Greater gear ratios 3.4, 5 speeds allow the car to pick up speed faster and, as a result, make overtaking faster. In terms of maximum speed, this gearbox also outperforms the JR5 box for the Russian engine. The maximum speed with the Russian unit will be 5 km / h lower. But the number of engine revolutions at the same speed for a pair with JR5 will be lower.

    In terms of fuel consumption, according to the passport data, a pair of Renault-Nissan H4M (1.6 l. 110 hp) and a French manual transmission JH3 will be more economical than our 21129 engine (1.6 l. 106 hp) and a foreign gearbox JR5 of the Renault alliance -Nissan. According to the data presented on the official website of LADA, consumption in the combined cycle will be less by 0.5 liters, and on the highway by 0.3 liters. The differences in fuel consumption are not so great, and if the owner is interested in lower vibration loads on the gear lever and easier gear shifting, then his choice will be a set with a Russian engine and a French gearbox. Another important factor will be the price of T.O. Components for a domestic unit are cheaper than similar parts for a foreign counterpart.

    There are more and more connoisseurs of two-pedal cars every day. It is not surprising that automobile concerns are going to install automatic transmissions not only on expensive, but also on budget models. AvtoVAZ also does not intend to lag behind global trends, as a result of which a number of its cars are already equipped with automatic transmissions. The entry into the market of the new Lada X Ray hatchback itself meant the presence of a version with an automated box. What did X Ray prepare for potential buyers?

    Lada Xray - automatic transmission or AMT?

    The solution to this issue was extremely important for the company, because the domestic manufacturer intended to create a modern, technological and relatively inexpensive car. It was for budgetary reasons that the hatchback version with the classic 5-band "automatic" was discarded, since this would have a noticeable effect on the price of the Lada X Rey. Of course, there was the option of equipping it with a 4-speed torque converter from the Japanese concern Jatco, but the installation of only a 4-band box was considered meaningless, since with it the image of the model, as a technological car, would have immediately faded.

    Robotic box AMT Lada X Rey. As it turned out, this is the golden mean between price, quality and convenience.

    As a result, a compromise solution was found - a 5-band, robotic transmission of the AMT type of the VAZ-21827 series.

    Features of the design of the "robot" Lada Iks Rey

    The basis for this box was a mechanical transmission of the VAZ-2180 type. Its design was modernized, an electronic control unit, actuators supplied from Germany by ZF, a clutch from VALEO and multi-case synchronizers were added. It is filled with oil for the entire service life, so that its periodic replacement, as in a simple "automatic" or variator, is not provided.

    The gear ratios in such a checkpoint are as follows:

    1st gear - 3.636 units;

    2nd gear - 1.950 units;

    III gear - 1.357 units;

    IV transfer - 0.941 units;

    V gear - 0.784 units;

    Main gear - 3.938 units;

    Reverse gear - 3.500 units.

    In general, the quality of the robotic box is inferior to that of the classic 5-band "machine". The robot twitches harder in traffic jams, does not respond so quickly to kick-down commands and so on. In addition, the convenience is affected by the need to put the X-Ray on the parking brake when stopping on an incline. However, it also has strengths:

    There is no background noise, as well as vibration on the gearbox lever.

    No need to warm up - while a conventional automatic transmission has to be warmed up before driving, the "robot" does without it. Even in cold weather, you can go right away.

    Towing cars and trailers is an extremely useful function. After all, a simple "automatic" drive in this mode, as a rule, does not withstand. But for AMT Lada X Ray, towing is not terrible.

    No need for maintenance.

    A gear reset mode is available.

    Acceptable fuel consumption in city driving - 8.5 liters per hundred.

    There is a blocking against erroneous switching.

    The "robot" also has a manual mode.

    In general, all these advantages, along with a lower cost, fully justify AvtoVAZ's decision to save money and make the price of the car slightly lower.

    AMT, ready to be installed on Lada X Rey.

    The reaction of motorists

    Initially, many were skeptical, believing that a robotic box could not replace the classic "automatic". Nevertheless, as the operation progressed, all the advantages of the transmission were revealed, and the absence of breakdowns added points to the AMT piggy bank. However, many believe that without a full-fledged "machine" Lada X Rey it will still be difficult to compete with other models.

    The presented video briefly tells about the technical data of Lada X Ray. The AMT box is also mentioned:
