Is it possible to tint the front windows of the car. What car window tinting is allowed in Russia? Ways to legally tint car windows

Photo olympus.ourlife.ru

Just a decade ago, car tinting in our country was a frequent and very fashionable phenomenon. The owners of a wide variety of cars believed that one of the first actions that should certainly be done after buying a new car is to tint it "tightly".
Why, until recently, toning in Russia was such a fashionable and widespread type of tuning? Let's consider its obvious advantages, which, in my opinion, are very few.

The time of the "heyday" of toning falls not even in the last decade, but a little earlier - in the mid-nineties. In those days, most of the cars on the roads of our country were not foreign cars, but representatives of the Russian car industry. Our cars have never been distinguished by either beauty or reliability, and people who were not very wealthy bought them, so they decorated them as best they could.
Toning is one of the easiest and most affordable ways to change the appearance of a car, moreover, in those days, it was absolutely legal. The tinted Nine was the pinnacle of the chic youth of the nineties. Young people were not stopped by the fact that at dusk, darkness, as well as in inclement weather, toning significantly impairs visibility. Some car enthusiasts even tinted the windshield. There seems to be one minus, but global, especially in our climate: according to the calculations of auto experts, tinting impairs visibility in more than half of the cases, and, therefore, can cause accidents.

There are several types of tinting: with a film, replacing glasses with tinted ones and applying colored spraying. Most of the tinting used in our country is film, so it makes no sense to talk about another. The film comes in different shades and degrees of shade and is applied to the inner surface of the glass. I will make a reservation right away: it is forbidden to tint the front windows of the car. If you really want to change the look of the car through tinting, then try to choose a film with a minimum percentage of darkening, and it is desirable that the front and rear windows do not differ in shade, otherwise you will not win, but lose in terms of aesthetics.
If we talk about the legal side of the issue, then, unlike the common misconception, the traffic police inspector who stopped you on the road has no right to force you to remove the tint or to withdraw your license. Difficulties will arise during registration operations with the car and technical inspection. Still, in summary, I really do not recommend toning the car: at dusk, in the dark and in bad weather, visibility is noticeably worse.

The advantage of tinting, as I already mentioned, is a change in the appearance of the car, to the taste of some car owners, for the better. The second important point for many drivers is that both the driver and the passengers of the car are reliably hidden under the cover of tinting from prying eyes. It is this factor that is the main reason why the rear windows are tinted in all executive class cars. There are additional advantages that tinting gives: some people believe that the inside of the car does not heat up so much in the heat (this is a delusion), and also that you can leave things unattended in the cabin (again a delusion: professional thieves walk with a flashlight, and shine through the tint specifically to see the contents of the cabin).

In all civilized countries of the world, tinting is prohibited. Fortunately, a few years ago we also adopted a law banning heavy tinting of the front windows of a car. This means that a car with tinted front windows cannot be registered. In theory, police officers should also stop such cars and force drivers to remove the tint film from the front windows. In practice, this does not happen.

You can now tint your car at minimal cost. The cost of one glass starts from a thousand rubles. Tinting is also color and monochromatic. The colored one is more expensive, but it can favorably set off and complement the color of your car, but it does not have a positive effect on visibility: the view is significantly impaired.
______________________________________________
Expert opinion Elena Lisovskaya: Sometimes motorists try to apply tint film on their own in an attempt to save money. It is hardly worth doing this without special skills, since there is a high probability of bubbles appearing, which means that all the work and materials are wasted.
______________________________________________

Remember, the ghostly benefits are unlikely to be worth your safety. It's not for nothing that tinting is banned almost all over the world.

And each car owner has the right to independently make decisions about how his car will look. But every year it becomes more difficult to make any changes to its appearance, since there are a number of laws for this. One of them concerns tinting. The State Duma believes that the darkening of the front windows contributes to a significant deterioration in visibility, which entails an increased risk of an emergency. Especially when it gets dark. This law does not stop some motorists, they are not afraid of the removal of numbers, or a fine of several thousand rubles, or arrest. Others prefer to find a middle ground. And in the process of searching for it, a completely natural question arises - what kind of tint is allowed on the front windows of the car?

Can the rear windows be tinted with any film?

The rear semicircle of the car can be sealed with any film at least 10 layers. There are no prohibitions or restrictions regarding them in the regulations. Therefore, you can choose a film with a color transition (gradient), mirror or even one that will match the color of the car. The toning centers offer many options, among which there is exactly what you need.

A controversial issue with mirror tinting often arises. It is not directly prohibited by GOST, however, in accordance with the Government Decree of 1993, its use is not allowed. Here is such a misfortune.

The choice of motorists is the percentage of light transmission. It can be between 5 and 90 percent, with 5 being the darkest. With 5% and 10% shading, the interior is not visible when it is dark and overcast, and on sunny days, due to the transparent front, what is behind will be slightly visible. This does not apply to mirror films, because they glare.

What does the technical regulation say about front glass tinting?

The technical regulations clearly state what kind of tint is allowed on the front windows. The light transmittance of the front is 75%, and the side ones - 70%.

It would seem that I bought a film, the light transmission of which is 70-75 percent, pasted it over, and no traffic police officer can force it to be removed. But here, too, there are some nuances. Since factory glasses are not 100% transparent, the device will show an error when checking.

The technical regulation introduced the concept of "polymer coated glass" used instead of tinting. According to Regulation 3.3.4, it is considered safe.

Strictly speaking, there is no such tint that would be allowed to be applied to the front windows. This is due to the peculiarities of factory glass, which initially absorb up to 20% of light, and on old surfaces this figure can reach 30%. Therefore, if you do not want to have problems with the law, it is better not to risk it. Well, or pre-measure the light transmission of the factory glass.

On the front, it is also allowed to apply a strip, the width of which is no more than 14 cm. In this case, you can pick up any film, even the darkest one - 5%. But if its width is at least a few millimeters larger, the traffic police officer has the right to force the car owner to remove it.

Low dimming tint films

It should be said right away that such options do not comply with GOST. These are conventional black films with a high level of light transmission. Among them, there are 70 percent options. This is the lightest film in this segment. Of course, it can and will be tested by the device, but this is only if the level of light transmission of the factory glass is at least 95%. The main question here is not what kind of tint is allowed on the front windows, but whether it is needed at all. These films have a low level of absorption of ultraviolet and infrared radiation, moreover, they are completely transparent. So for the most part, they don't make any sense.

Athermal films for tinting front windows

Another thing is athermal films. They are transparent with a slight shade, as well as "chameleon" (multicolor). Typically, the light transmission of this tinting is 80, 90, or even 93 percent.

Any tinting has athermal properties, but this option is much better in that it retains up to 99% of ultraviolet and infrared rays. Accordingly, it better protects the interior and passengers of the car from overheating.

What percentage of tint is allowed on the front windows, if we are talking about athermal film? The answer will be the same as before. But many athermal films are tested by the device. For example, tinting 3M CR90. Its light transmission level is 90%. Suppose, when checking the factory glass, the device showed 95%. The calculation is made as follows: 0.9 x 0.95 \u003d 0.855. That is, the percentage of light transmission of the film on the glass in this case will be 85.5%. Therefore, you can not be afraid of the device checks - they will be passed.

It should be said that in Russia tinting of some categories of cars is allowed. These include special-purpose vehicles that transport persons important to the state, and cars that participate in special operations during investigative and operational activities.

Tinting of front windows is not allowed in all countries, as it might seem. This is especially true for those states where the level of terrorist activity is increased. In some of these countries, the military even has the right to open fire to kill if they see a car with dark glasses.

In countries where it is very hot, tinting is mandatory. It protects the passenger compartment from the negative effects of sunlight, traps UV and IR radiation, and also maintains a comfortable temperature inside the car, thereby reducing the load on the air conditioning system. For example, each US state has its own rules and the permissible percentage of tinted windshields. Roughly speaking, the further south the state is, the lower this figure is.

Are changes in Russian legislation expected in 2018

Having considered the answers to the question of what kind of tint is allowed for the front side windows and windshield, many will ask: will something change in 2018? The answer is no. As before, the front side windows must transmit at least 70% of the sunlight, and the windshield must transmit at least 75%.

But the changes made to the law concern the punishment. From January 1, 2018, the amount of the fine is expected to increase to 5,000 rubles. However, this is a repeated violation of the law. If the driver has not previously received instructions to remove the tint film from the front windows of the car, then he will have to pay much less - 1,500 rubles.

In case of repeated violation of the law and non-compliance with the order of the traffic police, the offender can not only be fined, but also arrested, and the car can be sent to an impound parking lot. Therefore, you should remember what kind of tinted front windows is allowed if you do not want to have problems with the law.

If the driver is sure that the film is legal, but the device shows the opposite ...

Measurement of the degree of darkening of car windows is carried out by a traffic police officer using a special device. Verification cannot be carried out if:

  • The traffic police officer does not have a special device for measuring the level of glass shading. In other words, the inspector cannot determine this figure "by eye", respectively, and the order in this case is not issued.
  • Any precipitation is present. They increase air humidity, which affects the quality of the test. Also, the error in the readings can be at elevated atmospheric pressure and temperatures below 10 degrees below zero. Therefore, measurements are not taken in such weather. However, the inspector has the right to demand that the car be driven into a dry, warm room for inspection.
  • The device for measuring the level of dimming of car windows is not sealed and does not have a certificate. The inspector must either provide another apparatus or release the intruder.

Knowing all the nuances of the law and what kind of tinting of the front windows of the car is allowed, it will be possible to avoid heavy fines and many other negative consequences.

Is it allowed to tint the car's front windows? When a vehicle stops at a traffic police post, problems often arise due to improper tinting. The code contains certain requirements, for non-observance of which the inspector can issue a fine or impose another penalty.

1 How is it legal to tint your car?

To date, the official traffic rules are allowed to tint with film or other types of tinting the following elements of the car:

  • rear windshield (regardless of the percentage of light transmission),
  • rear side windows of the car,
  • car windshield (colored film in the upper part no more than 15 centimeters wide).
  • all side windows, including front ones, if the light transmission after tinting is at least 70%.

As a rule, light transmission is calculated using the formula a * b \u003d c, where a is the light transmission coefficient of the car glass, b is the film, and c is the final result, which is considered by the police. The degree of illumination of the glass is determined by a special diagnostic device (most often the "Blik" system), which is available to the traffic police. It connects to the standard cigarette lighter. Such a device can be purchased independently, however, it is impossible to accurately indicate the degree of light transmission in any weather, even with this device. There are some features of its use, namely:

  • permissible deviations in the level of air humidity no more than 20% with a starting indicator of 60,
  • the air temperature should not be below 0 degrees.

Thus, during rain or frosty weather, it is not possible to accurately determine the coefficient of light transmission with an accuracy of tenths. Another point spelled out in the SDA states that the color of the tint film should not greatly distort the perception of white, green, yellow, red and blue. Some car enthusiasts believe that it is possible to obtain a permit to tint a car, but such permits are only available for special purpose vehicles.

2 How not to break the law and tint the front windows of a car?

Today, almost every second car drives on roads with tinted rear windshields and rear side windows. Indeed, in hot weather, a car without tinting turns into something like an aquarium - the sun's rays and prying eyes penetrate into the interior. However, many people prefer to tint the front windows of a car, based on the fact that, by law, the side windows can be tinted with a 30% film (that is, the glass's light transmission is 70%).

Note that the front and rear windows of many modern foreign cars already in factory form have a light transmittance coefficient of no more than 80 percent. In this way, applying film even in the most transparent form would be a violation of current legislation. Therefore, the most effective and legitimate tinting methods are:

  1. Athermal tint film. Has heat dissipation functions and does not reduce visibility on the road in difficult weather conditions.
  2. ... A complex and expensive mechanism with which you can independently adjust the degree of darkening of the front and rear windows.
  3. Removable toning. It is also an effective tool, which, although it does not have the ability to adjust the light transmission, can be easily removed from the car, for example, when stopping at a checkpoint or in other traffic situations when toning may interfere.

As for a simple tint film, experts do not recommend sticking it on the side front windows, and even more so on the windshield, since even the most transparent layer will lead to a violation of the permissible light transmission.

3 What is the penalty to pay?

To date, for toning a vehicle that does not meet the requirements of the law, a fine of 500 rubles is provided (clause 2 of Article 12.1 of the Administrative Code from January 1, 2012 to April 1, 2014). Previously, license plates were removed (when stopped again with tinting), but from January 1, 2014, this practice was discontinued. after being stopped by a traffic police officer, a fine will still be issued, since the offense has already been recorded. It should also be remembered that it is quite difficult to remove a simple tinting film with your own hands at the place of a stop, you need to have a soap solution, a hair dryer or a device for creating water vapor at hand, otherwise it will not be possible to completely remove the film.

Good afternoon, dear reader.

This article will focus on the features of car tinting in 2019 and 2020, as well as possible penalties for applying tint film to glass.

In addition, let's talk about the permitted tinting, which can be used on a completely legal basis without fear of fines.

Allowed tinting in 2020?

So, first, let's consider what kind of car glass tinting is allowed in 2019:

Tint strip width on windshield

The first question that drivers are often interested in is the maximum width of the tint strip on the top of the windshield. For passenger cars it is 14 centimeters.

Using film with 70% light transmission

The second popular question is whether the driver will be fined for tint if the windshield and front side windows are coated with a film that has exactly 70 percent light transmission.

To answer this question, one should take into account the fact that the light transmission of glass even in a new car does not reach 100 percent.

Let's look at an example. If the light transmission of the new glass is 95 percent and the tint film is 70 percent, then the final light transmission is calculated using the formula:

0.95 * 0.7 \u003d 0.665 i.e. 66.5%

In practice, it doesn't matter if the film is 70 percent transmissive or 5 percent transmissive. Both options are the same offense and carry the same penalty.

Permitted tinting of front windows

Tinting of the windshield and front side windows is not prohibited by itself. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the only condition - the light transmission of tinted glass must be greater 70 percent.

In this case, you can try using a film with a light transmission of 85 to 95 percent.

Note. If you want to be sure that the toning complies with the current legislation, then after applying the film, check the light transmission with a special device. In car services that specialize in working with car glass, such devices are usually available.

How to get permission for tinting?

There is a widespread myth among drivers that in Russia there is a possibility of obtaining special permission for toning, which allows you to tint the car with any kind of films. The legislation does not provide for anything like that.

Note. If you see a tinted car on the street, this does not mean that its driver has a special permit. Most likely, the driver simply did not have time to get caught by the traffic police.

Fines for car tinting

In 2020, for illegal tinted glass of a car, only fine of 500 rubles (part 3 1).

The amount of the fine for tint does not depend on the light transmission of the car glass, as well as on how many glasses the tint film is applied to. In any case, it is 500 rubles.

In addition to the fine, the traffic police can write out.

Note. Before, traffic police officers could remove license plates from a car for tinting, but in 2020 this type of punishment is not used.

What happens if...

... remove the tint immediately after being stopped by a traffic police officer.

If you remove the tint film immediately after stopping the car by a traffic police officer, it will still be imposed on the driver for tint, because the fine is a punishment for driving a car with insufficient glass transmission. In this case, the car is controlled until the moment the car is stopped.

... remove the tint immediately after the fine is issued.

If the driver removes the tint immediately after the traffic police officer draws up a decision to impose an administrative fine, then he will be able to avoid repeated punishments for the same violation. If the tinting is not removed, then at the next stop by the traffic police, the driver will receive a new fine. The number of penalties is not limited.

... use a removable glass tint.

Removable toning glass does not protect the driver from fines. However, its use will allow you, if necessary, to quickly release the glass and avoid repeated fines for the same violation.

Finally, I suggest you watch a video in which the tint film is removed using water vapor:

If you wish, you can repeat this procedure and clean the car windows from the film yourself.

Good luck on the road!

What will happen for a repeated violation within a year for tinted front windows, only a fine of 500 or more severe punishment?

meteorhost, The Administrative Code provides for this violation only a fine of 500 rubles.

Good luck on the road!

Correct any inaccuracies in the article:

"If you remove the tinting immediately after the traffic police officer draws up a resolution on the imposition of an administrative fine, then the license plates will not be removed from the car, since the reason for the prohibition of operation has been eliminated."

you yourself wrote that since 2014 the withdrawal of numbers is not provided.

meteorhost, thanks for the comment, additions have been made to the article.

Good luck on the road!

guys, why do you write that if you remove the toner immediately after a traffic police officer stops it, there will still be a fine? after all, the guilt must be proven, but there is no tinting - there is no measurement of light transmission - there is no violation. presumption of innocence, there is still such a concept. another thing is that this is a kindergarten, to glue the toner so that before each IDPS to rip it off))

Tinted glass of the car makes the interior more comfortable for its driver and passengers: it protects from heat and prying eyes, protects the skin from burning out.

But, if, as a rule, there are no problems with tinting the rear windows, then applying tinting to the side front windows often carries the risk of getting a fine.

Checking the degree of shade

You can check the degree of darkening of the windows of your car using a special device, a taumeter. Its emitter sends a beam of a certain brightness through the glass, and the receiver measures how much light has reached after passing through the tint.

But buying special equipment just to find out if it meets the requirements would be unwise. Therefore, it is easier to measure this parameter during the next technical inspection.

measurement of the degree of shading is included in the list of inspection procedures.

If the traffic police inspector stopped the driver, and it seemed to him that the toning exceeds the permitted standards, he can direct the car to the nearest stationary point where there is equipment for taking measurements.

When measuring the amount of transmitted light, it is important to strictly observe the conditions necessary for a correct result:

  • air humidity should be 20%;
  • temperature - be within 15-25 ° С;
  • do not use the taumeter when it rains or at very low temperatures.

An approximate estimate of how much light is transmitted by tinting can be multiplied by the light transmittance of the factory glass with the characteristics of the used tinting.

So, if we take into account that ordinary glass of a car transmits 90% of the light, then when using a film that transmits 70% of light radiation, we get the final indicator of 60% (0.9 * 0.7 \u003d 0.6), which does not correspond to the permitted value.

Tinted front side windows in accordance with GOST

However, for many drivers, the requirement does not seem convincing, because the penalty for toning is a fine that does not exceed 500 rubles (p. 3.1).

The Government has repeatedly expressed the idea of \u200b\u200bincreasing the fine to 1500 rubles, but so far the bill has not been adopted, so the penalties have remained the same.

The amount of the fine in case of inconsistency of the light transmission capacity of toning with GOST standards:

There are ways to avoid punishment in the presence of tinting:

  • install and remove it in front of traffic police posts;
  • electrochromic tinting, which will take the desired parameters;
  • use of curtains.

Installation is also possible: two glasses are mounted in the door, one of which, tinted, automatically lowers if necessary.

This is a fairly expensive option, but more affordable than electrochromic toning.

Cost for front side windows

The cost of tinting the side front windows will depend on the class of the car, the material chosen and whether the procedure is carried out separately or in combination with other glasses. Below are approximate prices for tinting in a car workshop.

As you can see from the price list, prices are quite affordable. But, if you want to save money, you can tint the front side windows on your own.

With your own hands

If you have certain skills and skilled hands, you can tint the side front windows yourself.

Required materials and equipment

To complete the task you will need:

  • film: when buying, ask the seller for a certificate of light transmission. It is better to give preference to high-quality metallized goods in a roll. -the templates are of poor quality, and their light transmittance will rapidly decrease during operation. In the same store, as a rule, you can find the whole;
  • a construction knife with removable blades that can be changed as they become dull;
  • rubber spatula for smoothing the film. Better to take several different sizes. Spatulas are sold in hardware stores, in wallpaper departments;
  • window cleaner with a spray bottle. Some film manufacturers do not recommend using liquid. Therefore, you can prepare the solution yourself: you need to take 1.5 liters of water and add 5 drops of washing shampoo to it and mix well;
  • construction hair dryer. You can use the usual one, but it's not effective. In addition, the hair dryer may deteriorate or not be powerful enough.

In addition to what is indicated in the list, you will need a ruler, tape, napkins, a stapler and a sponge.

Preparatory work

For tinting car windows, you should choose a non-dusty room where there is no draft. It is better if another person helps you for the first time.

Stages of work:

  1. Remove the seal from the glass and thoroughly wash the glass with detergent. It should be free of dust, dirt and grease stains. Particular attention should be paid to the corners.
  2. It is better to remove the elements on the glass. If this is not possible, it is worthwhile to think in advance how to get around them.
  3. To make the process as simple as possible, you can remove the glass and tint it separately.

When the preparatory steps are completed, you can start toning:

  1. The tint film is applied to the glass with the dark side inward.
  2. To shape it into glass, the outside of the glass surface is sprayed with soapy water and a film is applied to it.
  3. Attaching it to the side glass, mark the boundaries and use a knife to give the tint film the desired shape. At the same time, leaving a margin of 1 cm at the edges.
  4. You can first make a piece of paper in the shape of glass, and then cut out the desired fragment from the film, attaching a template to it.

Bonding the film is a very laborious process. It is necessary to constantly spray the inner surface of the glass with soapy water so that it does not dry out. In this case, you need to quickly separate the dark layer of the film and apply it to the glass and moisten it with soapy water.

It is better to start the smoothing procedure only after the transparent layer is applied over the dark layer of the film. This is necessary in order not to damage the coating. But many car enthusiasts smooth the film without such protection.

It is necessary to level the film with a rubber spatula, moving from the center to the edges, periodically spraying it with soapy water to reduce friction. It is necessary to eliminate all bubbles between the tinting and the glass of the car.

When the alignment is complete, cut off the excess film with a sharp knife blade. To do this, just hold them along the edge of the glass. Then the film is dried with a construction hairdryer around the perimeter, or left for a long time.

APPLICATIONS AND CALLS ARE ACCEPTED 24/7 and WITHOUT DAYS.
