When may a transmission oil change be required?

If it is necessary to carry out certain work on the machine, for example, to replace the drive oil seal, then the oil will need to be drained from the box. Also, with prolonged operation of the car in difficult conditions or with high mileage, it will also be necessary to replace the transmission fluid.

Although the regulations say that the oil is infinite, but this is how it looks on a run of 45,000 km

The car can be equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission and a 5- or 6-speed manual. Consider the process of changing the oil on the version with manual transmission.

What kind of oil to fill?

Note! ... The volume is 0.55 and 0.38 liters, respectively.

Level check

If, during operation, oil leaks appear on the gearbox on a car, then it is imperative to check its level. In front of the box crankcase there is a hole, which is designed to check the oil level in the box itself. It is closed with a threaded plug. To check the oil level, you need to drive the car into a hole or raise it, remove the engine protection and unscrew the plug on the gearbox housing. The oil level should be near the bottom of the hole. If it is less than it should be topped up. After completing this procedure, if necessary, replace the O-ring on the plug and tighten it.

Usually, the rear gearbox does not cause problems for owners of all-wheel drive versions of the Renault Duster car.

A video about changing the oil in the Renault Duster gearbox is below.

It is not necessary to lift the car to change the oil in the rear gearbox. You can just lie down on the floor or drive into the viewing hole.

The plug on the gearbox is unscrewed with a hexagon.

The cork is marked with an arrow. Prepare a container for draining immediately

Place a container (one or more liters) under the used oil. When the oil is completely drained, you will notice that it will be black. This is in the order of things, since a lot of production products have accumulated in it.

After draining, the O-ring on the drain plug must be replaced in order to avoid oil leakage during further operation.

It should be noted that not all of the oil will drain from the gearbox during the process. Therefore, a vacuum hose must be used to drain it completely. You should rest it with one end on the bottom of the gearbox, and connect the other end to a vacuum pump (you can also create a vacuum with the lungs). The hose must be of sufficient length to prevent oil from entering the pump itself if used. It will also help to avoid getting oil into the mouth when the vacuum is created by the lungs.

You can use a hose like this

Flushing

After draining the oil, the gearbox must be flushed with a special liquid that is sold in the store and is designed specifically for this purpose. This liquid is drained in the same way as oil.

Fill

Using an oil filling funnel

This is done with a hose. A funnel is connected to one end of it, and the other is inserted into the drain hole. Oil must be filled up to the edge of the drain hole. Then the cork is screwed into place, and traces of smudges are wiped off.

Alternative way

An ear flush syringe will work too.

An alternative method involves the use of a powerful syringe. These are sold in the pharmacy, their ears are washed.

And you have to tinker with the distributor

After this procedure, you can begin to change the oil in the transfer case.

  1. The front wheel is removed (right). Also, you can not remove it, but simply turn it all the way to the left.

The wheel was removed, the control points are visible in the figure

  2. Partially remove protection. You will need to unscrew the 6 bolts that hold it.

    Oil drain "front"

  3. After draining, tighten the plug by changing the seal on it.
  4. Reinstall the protection.
  5. Fill in new oil through the filler hole. It is necessary to fill in oil to the level of the hole, when it begins to pour out of it by itself. For this, you can use the same device with which oil was poured into the rear gearbox.
  6. Tighten the filler hole by changing the seal on the plug.

The manufacturer claims that the oil that is poured into the transfer case and rear gearbox during production cannot be changed throughout the entire service life of the Renault Duster car.

According to experts, this rule applies more to European countries where the quality of roads is good. In domestic operating conditions, the oil in these units has to be changed. There is also an underfilling of oil in the gearbox at the factory. Typically, the underfill level is small and not critical.

Oil selection

Replacement will require about one liter of oil. It is necessary to pour oil into the gearbox to the level of the drain plug. Also, when carrying out work after draining the old oil, it is recommended to flush the gearbox.

conclusions

As you can see from the above, you can easily change the oil in the transfer case and rear gearbox on your own. The main thing is to adhere to these recommendations.

Reno Duster transfer case oil change

Axle oil change

What and how much oil to fill in the bridge and the Duster 4x4 razdatka

According to the manufacturer, the oil in the transfer case and axle cannot be changed and is filled for the entire service life of the vehicle.

But underfilling the oil in the distributor and the axle is quite a frequent occurrence on Renault Duster.
In this case, only 2 cm was missing to the level, it is not scary, but to calm it down I had to change it.

Since it is not clear what kind of oil was filled, I had to play it safe and buy a new transmission oil Total Syn Fe 75W-90, Renault recommended oil, solidifies at temperatures below 50 degrees.

Renault Duster is enough to change the oil in the distributor and the bridge 1 liter.
In this report, it took 1 liter and 50-100 grams, this is when filling to the maximum, to the level of the drain holes and taking into account the complete draining and flushing of the rear gearbox and the distributor.

  • We start with the rear gear
  • You don't have to lift the car, if you lie on the ground, then there is enough space.
  • Unscrew the drain plug (bottom) with a hexagon
  • Drain the oil, the oil will be black enough, this is normal
  • We twist the plug back, don't forget about the gasket

All the oil will not drain, so you can use the vacuum hose to drain the oil completely.

The hose is exactly vacuum, because the walls are not compressed. We insert one end of the hose into the filler hole of the gearbox, resting the hose against the bottom, the other end of the hose to the vacuum pump (or create a vacuum with our lungs), the hose is taken long so that oil does not get into the pump or swallow it.

You can also flush the gearbox and drain completely the flushing fluid in this way. The oil drains out of the distributor well, you do not need to rinse.

It is convenient to pour oil into the rear gearbox using this device.

We push the hose and pour new oil into the filler hole (top), the oil must be poured to the very edge of the hole.

We twist the upper plug on the gearbox and wipe the traces of oil with a rag after replacing

Moving on to the transfer case

We remove the right front wheel (passenger side), you can simply turn it out if it is convenient.

The transfer box is located on the passenger side directly behind the wheel. See the photo below.

We find the filler hole, it is also the control one.

Transfer case oil level is normal.

To access the drain plug, you will have to partially remove the protection by unscrewing the six mounting bolts so that the protection hangs only on the front ones. The drain plug of the transfer case is indicated by an arrow.

The oil drains out of the distributor well, you do not need to rinse.

We drain the oil, tighten the drain plug. Putting the protection back together.

Oil was poured everywhere exactly along the edge of the filler hole (it even poured out a little).

The control and filler hole of the box is located in the same way as the dispensing hole, but on the left side.

In the box, the oil did not change, only the level was checked - almost flush with the edge.

There are several signs that the gearbox lubricant needs to be changed. But not all of them allow you to diagnose the need to change the oil in the automatic transmission. According to international standards, the lubricant is changed every 50-60 thousand kilometers along with the filter. And after such a run, car owners turn to the service station, where they are offered to go through the procedure for replacing the lubricating fluid.

At the same time, the services offered are conditionally divided into full and partial replacement. A complete change means the complete removal of used oil, flushing the engine and filling with new one. A simpler process is a partial fluid change. It does not require flushing, the old oil is mixed with the new one, but at the same time the operation of the automatic transmission becomes noticeably smoother. In some cases, it is she who is preferred, because after a complete replacement, problems with the correct operation of the automatic transmission are possible.

The problem can arise from exposure to transmission flush agents. If a car has traveled more than 100 thousand kilometers on one oil, then deposits will necessarily form inside it, which, when cleaning, can clog the oil channels. As a result, the box can overheat and fail. Therefore, if there is a need for a maximum change, then it is better to make several partial replacements every 300 kilometers. This will not give such efficiency as a complete oil change in the Renault Duster 4x4 transmission, allowing only 75% of the old oil to be removed. In a manual transmission, in contrast to an automatic transmission, a complete oil change is recommended.

The manufacturer gives a guarantee for the entire life of the automatic transmission when replaced in accordance with the regulations - every 50-60 thousand kilometers. In practice, in most cases, this allows you to increase the resource by 150-200%. For work, it is better to contact a specialized service station, which has the necessary equipment.

To change the lubricant in a mechanical box, you need a lift or a viewing hole and a simple set of tools:

  1. Filling syringe
  2. Capacity for development
  3. Tetrahedron
  4. Oil 3 liters.

To change the oil in a Renault Duster 4x4 gearbox, you need to follow a few simple steps:

After work, it is necessary to check the box after 70-100 kilometers. If there are leaks, fix the problem.

The drain plug gasket has the article number 77 03 062 062. The cost of the part is quite low, so when changing the lubricant it is better to immediately change it to a new one.

Why there is a need to change

The oil for the transmission of Renault Duster 4x4, like any other, is a complex product consisting of a large number of additives that make it possible to achieve frost resistance, good lubricating characteristics, and so on. But at the same time, under the influence of large loads, overheating and wear of parts occurs. This leads to the separation of the lubricant into fractions and precipitation.

Therefore, for any work, such as changing the oil seal or drive, it is better to make a complete replacement. This requires 3 liters of 75W-80 viscosity. Renault Duster transmission uses different types of products for lubrication. 80W-90 must be used for reducer and dispenser.

Is not the first mass-produced crossover, but its predecessor, the compact SUV Renault Koleos, went unnoticed. This is largely due to the oversaturation of the European market with off-road vehicles. To rectify the situation, the French decided to start producing a cheaper, but no less reliable car. And they succeeded - Renault Duster, assembled at a Romanian plant, turned out to be more in demand. Its production started in 2010, and a year later the model was launched at the Moscow enterprise Avtoframos. The popularity of the crossover of domestic assembly is largely due not only to the relatively low cost, but also to the ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance of the car with your own hands. In particular, such an operation, like the gearbox of the rear axle Renault Duster, does not require a specialized tool and high professionalism of the performers.

The procedure for changing the oil in the gearbox and Renault Duster distributor.

Replacement frequency

According to the data given in the manual, the transmission fluid in the rear axle gearbox and transfer case does not need to be replaced throughout the entire life of the vehicle. However, even a layman understands that this is nothing more than a marketing ploy. Indeed, even in European countries, where the quality of highways is incomparable with our roads, this operation is performed quite often for various reasons. In domestic conditions, it is recommended to change the oil in the gearbox and Renault Duster distributor every 75 thousand kilometers, especially with an aggressive driving style and harsh vehicle operating conditions.

Which oil to choose

At the factory, the manufacturer pours mineral 80W90 into the transfer case and rear gearbox Renault Duster, corresponding to the API GL-5 specification (pour point - minus 27 degrees). Since such a temperature range is clearly insufficient in a significant part of the territory of our country, it should be replaced with a semi-synthetic transmission fluid Syn Fe 75W90 from the same manufacturer, which can work normally at temperatures down to minus 50 degrees. The filling volume of the rear gearbox, according to the manual, is 0.55 liters; 0.4 liters are poured into the transfer case. Thus, no matter what permissible oil will be poured into the distributor and Renault Duster gearbox, it is enough to purchase a liter can of fluid (if you do not change the lubricant in the gearbox in parallel).

Checking the oil level

Unfortunately, underfilling of transmission fluid is possible even at the factory. This situation has recently become more common, so regular checking of the oil level in the rear gearbox and transfer case should become a habit for every owner of this crossover. It is not difficult to determine how much oil is in the gearbox and Renault Duster distributor, this operation will take you no more than 10 - 15 minutes, if you provide convenient access at the bottom of the car. It is enough to unscrew the filler hole of each of the units and make sure that the liquid reaches its lower edge. If not, top up until it starts to flow.

Regulations for changing the oil in the razdatka and the Renault Duster gearbox

If, during the next check of the lubricant level, you think that its color is too dark, this may become the basis for replacing the transmission fluid, regardless of how many kilometers you have driven since the last replacement. The sequence of actions for a Renault Duster car:

The procedure for Renault Duster is somewhat different:

Since this operation is rarely performed in the absence of transmission fluid leaks, it is likely that you will have to perform it with an interval of two to three years.
