(photos, modifications, engines, gearboxes, main problems, prices)

general information

The second generation Skoda Octavia generation received the designation A5 (based on its platform) and replaced the previous Skoda Octavia A4 model. The new version was presented in March 2004. The car is built on the A5 platform (in-plant designation PQ35), which it shares with the second generation Audi A3, fifth generation Volkswagen Golf and other soplatform models. In addition to the new engine range, the model received a more spacious cabin, in particular more legroom for rear passengers (a weak point of the previous generation). In addition, the front and rear ground clearance has been increased.

The production of the model was established in many countries, including Russia - at the end of 2007, the production of Skoda Octavia was opened in Kaluga. In India, the second generation Octavia was marketed under the Laura name in order to distance itself into a higher segment of the market from the first generation model, which was also sold there until 2010, but from 2010 to 2012 the price of the Laura was reduced and it was already targeting the part of the market where before that, the first generation was positioned.

The Octavia a5 lineup also had two all-wheel drive versions: 4x4 and Scout. Both versions used all-wheel drive with Haldex clutch. Both modifications have increased ground clearance: 24 mm for the 4x4 version and 40 mm for the Scout. The scout itself was introduced in 2006 and was only available in a station wagon. Outwardly, it differed from the usual Octavias by enlarged bumpers and a plastic body kit, which gave it a more crossover look.

Skoda Octavia A5 was offered in two body types: liftback and station wagon:
Liftback - Skoda Octavia A5 (model code: 1Z3), years of production: 2004 - 2013
Station wagon - Skoda Octavia Combi A5 (model code: 1Z5), years of production: 2005 - 2013

1. Configuration and modification of Skoda Octavia A5 dorestayling (02.2004-10.2008)

The Skoda Octavia a5 dorestaying liftback was produced only in a front-wheel drive version, but had two separate modifications: RS and Scout. RS is a sports car modification, which was equipped with the most powerful 2.0 TSi (200 hp) and 2.0 TDi (170 hp) engines. This modification appeared in the lineup in 2005.

The Skoda Octavia a5 also came with a "Styling package" that included different bumpers, a wing blade on the boot lid and a stainless steel exhaust pipe.

The Skoda Octavia A5 Combi version (station wagon) was also supplied with an all-wheel drive transmission. And in 2007, the all-terrain version, the Scout, also appeared in its lineup. As well as for the liftback, the RS version was available for the station wagon.

2. Configuration and modification of Skoda Octavia A5 restyling (11.2008-06.2013)

Restyled models were presented at the end of 2008. The changes affected the exterior design of the bumpers, hood and optics. On the technical side, the list of proposed engines and transmissions has changed, and the multimedia head units, steering wheels and interior trim options have changed in the cabin. The restyling also featured the DSG7 (0AM) robotic gearbox for the first time.

Also, the restyled Octavia a5 retained the RS version for both body types (engine power remained at the same level, but a version with DSG for a gasoline engine appeared).

The station wagon retained the all-wheel drive version, including the cross-country modification - Scout.

Skoda Octavia A5 (restyling) was supplied in the following basic trim levels:

3. Body Skoda Octavia A5 (paintwork, corrosion centers, problem areas)

The body of the Skoda Octavia A5 is well galvanized and is not afraid of external aggressive factors. But this is only as long as there was no external interference in the paintwork or body repair. No matter how well they try to repair the body, especially if one or more elements have been replaced, the zinc coating will no longer be homogeneous, which means that the appearance of foci of corrosion in the places of repair is very likely.

Do not believe if they write somewhere that the paint from the thresholds or arches of the Skoda Octavia A5 peels off by itself from old age, this is very unlikely. The paint itself does not peel off the cars, most likely it was just a body repair that was done improperly. But this applies only to very neglected cases:

Small chips are possible, since the zinc coating also has a negative side: on zinc, the paint does not adhere as firmly as on the ground, which is used to cover non-galvanized steel body parts. Thus, you should not be surprised if the stones leave noticeable chips that should be tinted quickly enough so that the chips do not increase their area.

There are also other purely Skoda features inherent in almost all models of the brand. For example, the rear bumpers are very tightly attached to the body, and during the operation of the car, the bumper rubs against the body. This leads to the fact that the paint begins to wipe off, and at the junction of the two parts there are foci of corrosion (the so-called "beetles"). For those who have not yet developed this sore - you can remove the bumper and apply a transparent vinyl film between the fender and the bumper - this will protect the body from paint abrasion.

On all versions of the Skoda Octavia a5, very good door seals are installed, which do not allow water to penetrate into the car's interior, even in cases when the body passes very deep puddles. But these seals, unfortunately, very much wipe the paint on the body, after which they are taken for the zinc coating. It is necessary to avoid the appearance of sand and dirt in the areas of contact between the seals and the body. The bottom line is that paint abrasion occurs not only at the moments of opening and closing the doors, but also because the doors themselves walk somewhat in their openings, due to the fact that the body does not have sufficient torsional rigidity (typical of liftbacks up to the emergence of the MQB platform).

Also, on the thresholds of the Skoda Octavia a5, a layer of anti-gravel is applied, on the border of which paintwork defects (microcracks) may appear, which ultimately leads to the appearance of quite noticeable paint peeling. In order to catch such defects at the initial stage and try to clean and paint them over, you should run your finger along this edge: if you don’t feel peeling and softness, then everything is fine, and if the edge of the anti-gravel coating begins to move under the pressure of your finger, it means in this place peeling of paint and anti-gravel has already begun.

Surprisingly, the paint on the hood of the Skoda Octavia a5 keeps very well and even with active driving on the highway, there are not as many chips on the hood as it could be. What can not be said about the roof of the car, it is there that chips form quite easily and begin to expand quickly enough.

4. Body colors Skoda Octavia a5 (paint codes)

You can find out your paint code either by decoding the VIN number, or by the plate with the option codes from the service book (the same table is duplicated by a sticker in the trunk next to the spare wheel well.

For example, in the photo below we see the code 9154 ... We look at the color matching table and find among the complete code 9154 / F5X / 5T5T, which indicates that the car that owns the plate in the photo has the color Satin gray.

5. Interior Skoda Octavia A5

5.1 Interior trim options Skoda Octavia A5

Skoda Octavia A5 had various color combinations in the interior. Most often in Russia it is a black interior in Anthracite color, but in Europe and other countries it was possible to choose combinations of Anthracite with light gray and beige accents.

Depending on the configuration, the decorative inserts in the cabin also changed:

  • Black plastic (Classic and Active);
  • Painted in metallic silver (Ambiente and Ambition);
  • Imitation of the structure of aluminum or wood (Elegance);
  • Black piano lacquer (Laurin & Klement).
On the pre-styling version, there was another version of the "Dynamic" interior with sports seats.

The richest version of the interior trim was Laurin & Klement, only she was entitled to decorative inserts in black piano lacquer. This version was also equipped with leather seats and seats with a combination of Alcantara and leather trim.

The RS versions also relied on an all-leather or combination interior, while the color of the seats could also vary. The seats on the Octavia RS have a more pronounced profile. Also on the RS versions was a three-spoke steering wheel with a sports grip, trimmed with perforated leather.

5.2 Multimedia systems Skoda Octavia A5

Skoda Octavia A5 was equipped with various multimedia systems that differed in their functions. At the same time, pre-styling multimedia systems differed from those that were installed on restyled cars.

Head units Skoda Octavia A5 (dore styling) (02.2004-10.2008)

Skoda melody
Equipped with CD player, AM / FM radio, RDS system, car-specific encoding system, 4 x 20 W audio amplifier and mini-jack input for hands-free headset. Has the ability to connect a multi-wheel and MaxiDOT display.

Skoda Stream
It was equipped with a CD / MP3 player, AM / FM radio, RDS system and a large monochrome dot display that allows you to display data on street temperature, show the time, and also duplicate information from the Climatronic climate system, parking sensors and a connected hands-free headset. The sound amplifier has the same power as the Melody: 4 x 20 W. Has the ability to connect a multi-wheel, MaxiDOT display and CD changer.

Skoda Audience
Equipped with all the same functions as the Skoda Stream, but in addition to them it also has a built-in CD changer for 6 discs.

Skoda Cruise Navigation System
Has a large monochrome display that shows the direction of navigation using sketchy arrows. The system also displays the number of kilometers to the target and the remaining travel time. In addition to visual indications, navigation instructions are accompanied by voice comments. For navigation, special navigation CDs are used, which require updating and vary for different regions. The rest of the functionality corresponds to what the Stream head unit offers.

Skoda Nexus navigation system
It has a color LCD display that displays detailed navigation along with a map of the area. The display shows a detailed route to the target, while the information is duplicated on the MaxiDOT dashboard display. Has the ability to alert about the traffic situation.

Head units Skoda Octavia A5 (re styling) (11.2008-06.2013)

Skoda blues
The same device that was called Skoda Melody in the pre-styling version of the Octavia A5. Equipped with CD player, AM / FM radio, RDS system, car-specific encoding system, 4 x 20 W audio amplifier and mini-jack input for hands-free headset. Has the ability to connect a multi-wheel and MaxiDOT display.

Skoda Swing
The basic 2-din model offers functions such as FM / AM radio, CD / MP3 player, visualization of the parking assistant on a monochrome display with a resolution of 302 x 45 pixels, Bluetooth (on some models) and USB, AUX support (on some models). It does not allow connecting such functions as a rear view camera, displaying information on the screen, there is no possibility of navigation, viewing photos and videos.

Skoda Bolero
Has significantly more functionality compared to Swing. A 6.5-inch touchscreen color screen with 400x240 pixels resolution allows you to connect a rear view camera. The screen also displays indicators from the climate system and other comfort sides. Has support for multi-wheel, MaxiDOT display, SD cards. The player supports CD and MP3 formats, as well as AUX and USB input ports.

Skoda Amundsen / Amundsen +
This head unit had a color touch screen with a diagonal of 5 inches and with a resolution of 400x240, support for navigation software, CD, SD. Bluetoth was absent in this model, but it was possible to install it additionally. Navigation in this GU worked from disk, and not all maps were supported. Also, this GU did not have a connector for a rear-view camera, which made it impossible to install it.

Amundsen + has the ability to load maps directly into the memory of the GU itself, which eliminates the need to use a navigation CD for this purpose. Also Amundsen + has a built-in bluetooth model and makes it possible to connect a rear-view camera to the GU.

Skoda columbus
The device was equipped with a large 6.5 inch touch screen with a resolution of 800x480 pixels and LED backlight. The Columbus also had features such as navigation support, video playback, and internal memory that allowed maps and navigation updates to be downloaded directly into the head unit.

More details about all Skoda head units and their technical characteristics can be found in.

6. Technical features and hidden functions of Skoda Octavia A5

Skoda Octavia A5 is built on the PQ35 platform and has ample opportunities for coding and activating various functions of the vehicle's internal equipment. The list of functions that can be activated on the Skoda Octavia A5 can be found on a separate page of the forum, which is dedicated to.

6.1 Suspension

The Skoda Octavia A5 suspension is completely independent: McPherson at the front and multi-link at the rear. The suspension of the Octavia A5 is quite unpretentious and reliable. But we must be prepared that every 60-80 thousand km it will be necessary to change the stabilizer struts 1K0 411 315 R... Less often, shock absorbers leak and spring breakage (although, if you heavily load the trunk, then the rear springs and shock absorbers will require replacement at a run of about 50 thousand km).

6.2 Brakes

Front and rear disc brakes (front - ventilated), which differ in size depending on the engine model. The following front brakes were installed on the Skoda Octavia A5:

  • 1ZF - Teves FS III 280x22 mm for 15 "" discs - (discs 1K0 615 301 AS, pads 1K0 698 151 F) - for basic modifications 1.4 MPI and 1.6 MPI
  • 1ZE - Teves 288x25 mm for 15 "" discs - (discs 1K0 615 301 T , pads 5K0 698 151) - for basic modifications 1.4 TSI and 1.8 TSI
  • 1ZB - 312x25 mm for 16 "" discs - (discs 1K0 615 301 AA , pads 3C0 698 151 C) - for modification RS
The rear brakes on the Skoda Octavia A5 were supplied in the following versions:
  • 1KD - C38HR-A LUCAS 253x10 mm - (discs 1K0 615 601 AB , pads 1K0 698 451 J)
  • 1KF - CII41HR-A LUCAS 258x12 mm - (discs 1K0 615 601 AJ , pads 1K0 698 451 G)
  • 1KS, 1KT - ZOH BIR3 38 BOSCH 272x10 mm - (discs 1K0 615 601 AA , pads 5K0 698 451)
  • 1KP - CII38HR-A LUCAS 282x12 mm - (discs 5Q0 615 601 G , pads 1K0 698 451 G) - RS version.
You can read about how to independently replace the rear brake discs and pads on the Skoda Octavia A5 in a separate section.

6.3 Transmission

Skoda Octavia A5 was equipped with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive transmissions. The all-wheel drive transmission uses the Haldex Traction system, which has a computer-controlled central clutch that can automatically redistribute torque, transferring up to 85% of the force to the selected wheel.

The following gearbox versions were installed on various modifications of the Skoda Octavia A5.

  • 5-speed manual transmission 0AF
  • 5-speed manual transmission 0A4
  • 6-speed manual transmission MQ250 02S
  • 6-speed manual transmission MQ350 02Q
  • 6-speed torque converter
  • 6-speed robotic (wet clutch)
  • 7-speed robotic (with dry clutches)

7. Frequent problems and maintenance features of the Skoda Octavia A5:

Skoda Octavia A5 is reliable and has established itself as an excellent option for a pragmatist, who not only does not cause much trouble, but also performs a lot of all kinds of tasks in terms of versatility and ease of transportation of goods. Despite all this, the Octavius \u200b\u200bA5 also has a number of features to keep in mind.

7.1 Extension of the timing chain and oil burner of 1.8 TSI engines

In a diesel engine and aspirated engines, the timing mechanism is belt-driven, so you should not neglect its replacement every 90 thousand km. (the plant recommends to inspect every 60,000 km and replace every 120,000 km). The turbo motors have a chain drive, which, according to the plant, is designed for the entire service life. But this is not at all the case, because not only do the chains on these motors stretch, but even before 2012 they could make a jump due to a constructive flaw in the timing mechanism tensioner.

7.4 Problems with the DSG Robot

According to the manufacturer's information, the 7-speed preselective robotic DSG gearbox is designed for 300 thousand km of run, but the situation with it is difficult. In fact, this "robot" turned out to be the most problematic part of the Octavia. The minimum that the owner can encounter is a clang coming from the box when driving at low speeds. Plus jerks and vibrations in the first two gears. Such phenomena do not affect the life span. In contrast to constant urban operation, if a significant part of it falls on traffic jams.

The mechanical part of the "seven-step" is unlikely to force you to contact the service. Mechatronic is capable of requiring replacement by 30-40 thousand km. It is good if this was done before the end of the warranty. What is even more interesting, the "preselective" itself appeared on Skoda only with a restyling. But then a 6-speed automatic transmission was returned to the version with 1.8 TSI. And rightly so - the described problems are more typical for the most powerful modification.

7.5 Reliable enough, but not a perpetual machine 09G

"Automatic" Aisin TF-61SN it is also known as 09G by modern standards is not bad. Up to 100 thousand km, you need to monitor only the inner left boot of the drive, which has a tendency to tear after the winter season (3,000 rubles). The inner left CV joint can also fail and begin to create unpleasant vibrations during acceleration.

After 100,000 km of run, slippage and blows "hot" may begin, while "on a cold unit" everything will work normally. All this promises the owner to replace the valve body. But then burnt clutches and the destruction of the "planetary" may follow. This does not happen for everyone, and some cars with automatic transmission 09G drive 250-300 thousand km without any problems.

Remember that the oil in the automatic transmission also changes every 60,000 km, just like on the DSG.

8. Prices at the time of production and in the secondary market

The price of the Skoda Octavia 2009 "Ambient" at the time of production in Russia was in the range of 499-735 thousand rubles for a hatchback body and 535-755 thousand rubles for a station wagon (Combi). The price of the Skoda Octavia 2009 "Elegance" ranged from 629 to 779 thousand rubles for a hatchback and from 669 to 819 thousand rubles for a station wagon.

Looking at such prices now, you start to "bite your elbows", and you think, this is what you had to buy then in order to drive now and still not know the problems (of course, without DSG).

To date, the secondary market is filled with a mass of offers for the sale of Octavius \u200b\u200bA5, since a lot of them were released, and in Russia it has become one of the best bestsellers. Offers for more or less decent copies start at 300,000 rubles. But here you need to be very careful, since the Skoda Octavia is one of the favorite taxi cars (confirms its reliability and versatility), especially the 1.6 MPI version with manual transmission. It is clear that such machines will be squeezed out "to the last drop"

Therefore, it is better to look at offers at a price closer to 500,000 rubles, but even there you need to be on the lookout, because buying an Octavia now in good condition is a great success and an excellent investment of money.

The best option would be the restyled cars of the last years of 2012-2013, since they did not have completely empty configurations (dealers made discounts and fueled interest in the outgoing model), and 1.4 TSI engines have already received an upgraded timing mechanism. Therefore, here it is worth choosing either 1.4 TSI manual transmission or 1.6 MPI manual transmission / automatic transmission. Versions with 1.8 TSI, although powerful, suffer from oil problems and ultimately require replacement of the piston group.

You should also always remember the basic ones, which will help you not to make obvious mistakes when choosing a car.

Skoda Octavia of the third generation under the A7 index is the sales leader in the golf class on the Russian market. It sells better than Volkswagen Jetta, Toyota Corolla, Kia Cerato, Hyundai Elantra and other C-class representatives.

This car is loved for its modern appearance, thoughtful interior design, powerful and economical engines, as well as a roomy and functional trunk. Simply put - Octavia looks great, rides fast, inside is comfortable and spacious.

Skoda Octavia A7. Photo - drive2.ru

The perfect car? I would not rush to answer this question in the affirmative. Not everything is as smooth as it seems at first glance. Like any other car, the Octavia has its weaknesses and problems that will be discussed in this article.

1) DSG-7... Many motorists have heard about the problems of robotic boxes, how they break, require repairs and, of course, financial investments. Octavia was not spared this problem.

The seven-speed DSG-7 robot under the DQ200 index has undergone a deep modernization after 2014. However, even on these models released after 2014, the mechatronics and clutches often fail. This usually happens at 70-100,000 km.

And on cars of 2013, owners have to meet with such a problem more often. There mechatronics and clutch die every 40-60,000 km. However, if you installed upgraded parts, then their resource will be greater.

By the way, even for cars manufactured before 2014, the manufacturer gave a guarantee of 5 years or 150,000 km of run. And the model from 2014 has a 2-year warranty.

The cost of a new clutch is up to 30,000 rubles, mechatronics - from 50,000 rubles. Work - 10-15,000 rubles. And it's not from official dealers.

Therefore, before buying an Octavia with a DSG robot, be sure to diagnose the box from an authorized dealer. They will determine exactly how long she has left to live.

2) Turbocharged engines 1.4 TSI CHPA (140 HP), 1.4 TSI CZDA, CZEA (150 HP and 1.8 TSI CJSA; CJSB (180 HP). These are high-torque and economical engines. For example, the 150 HP version with the DSG robot accelerates to the first hundred in just 8.1 seconds, and the average fuel consumption is 5.4 liters per 100 kilometers. This is according to the passport, in practice, about 7 liters on average. Whatever one may say, these are excellent indicators for a family and practical car.

But there is one caveat under the name, or rather its actuator (pressure regulator). It can fail on almost any run, most often after 70,000 km. The official dealer often claims that the actuator cannot be replaced separately and that a complete turbocharger must be purchased. The price of the new turbine is 116,000 rubles. You can find a used one with a working actuator.

But it's worth noting that some dealers help owners purchase the actuator separately. The price is about 13-15,000 rubles. Some of the owners independently repair the actuator.

3) Aspirated oil lubricator 1.6 MPI (110 HP). It would seem that a naturally aspirated engine without a turbine should be simple and hassle-free. But not in this case. Owners have to add 300-400 ml of oil per 1000 km of run. The manufacturer is not going to fix this problem in any way and indicates in the operating instructions that, depending on the driving style and operating conditions, oil consumption can be up to 0.5 liters per 1000 km.

There is a nuance in which the oil consumption increases - this is driving in traffic jams. If you drive mainly on the highway, then you will have to add no more than 1 liter per 10,000 km of run, and when driving in traffic jams, 2, or even 3 liters of oil.

Some owners claim that when filling with oil with a viscosity of 0W30, the oil burner passes.

At the same time, the 110-strong aspirated engine is really reliable. Many taxi companies in large cities use Octavia with this engine and the mileage there reaches 200-300,000 km without major repairs.

Despite its weaknesses, the Skoda Octavia A7 continues to be the leader in the C-class. In the secondary market, it is very liquid, it loses little in price and is sold quickly. Apparently, those who buy Octavia know what they are doing and its undoubted advantages overlap the disadvantages.

When choosing a car, everyone puts their own ideas about what it should be. Today on the roads you can find a huge number of budget cars and naturally from such a variety eyes run up. It's very hard not to notice a brand like Skoda. Czech manufacturers have made a huge leap forward over the past fifteen years. But how many problems such a car can bring to its owner. But despite all the advantages and favorable reviews from fans, there are weak points on the Skoda Octavia A5 and there are much more of them than it might seem at first glance. We will tell you about some of them and summarize whether it is worth buying this unit.

1- Front suspension arms. They have a low resource. Regular ones serve for a relatively long time, in the area of \u200b\u200b60,000 km. It seems that it’s okay, you can go broke and put a new original, but alas, the following “shoals” arise here. New original spare parts Skoda Octavia A5 are made in China. Like this. Now this car brand is 80% Chinese parts. But do not be surprised if we say that today almost all car manufacturers have established the production of spare parts in the land of the rising sun. This is the norm.

After replacing the standard ones, the new levers go no more than 40,000 km. To be more precise, the levers themselves are eternal. Silent blocks and ball bearings are "scattered" on them, but everything in the assembly changes, although the components can be found separately.

So, we write 40,000 km into the piggy bank. Let's go further.

2- Hub bearings. If you are interested in the weakest points of the Skoda Aktavia A5, then this is exactly the case. The front bearings only travel 40,000 km. The rear ones last a little longer and emit a hum at 60 thousand. The problem lies not even in curved rims or out of balance, but in the quality of the steel itself.

Once again we put 40,000 km in the piggy bank. We follow further

3- brake discs. Here everything is like many others. In case of emergency braking, followed by getting into the water, the discs receive a heat shock and lose their shape, after which they hit the steering wheel when braking.

Mileage does not affect this breakdown.

4- automatic transmission. If you have taken a closer look at the 1.8-liter modification with a seven-speed automatic transmission, DSG modifications, then in advance be prepared to replace it every 100,000 km. For a modern machine, such characteristics are considered a shame. It is with this box that all motorists suffer. Bulkhead does not lend itself to, only a replacement, but you yourself understand, it will not work to find a new box on parsing. It will run at least 50-60 thousand kilometers. That is, the residual resource is 50 thousand.

5- Steering rack. Surprisingly low resource. Somewhere on a run of 40 thousand, full-time steering rack for Octavia 5 starts knocking. It would seem that he made the music louder and all the cases, but no. After another 10,000 km. there will be a backlash, driving with which is one torment. This is a serious disadvantage, although the exact same problems are found on many Japanese cars.

And again in the piggy bank 40,000 km. Already wondering what will happen next?

6- Oil consumption. We will not attribute this feature to a serious minus, since it is inherent in only one type of engine, produced before 2012 and having a volume of 1.8 liters. Oil consumption per 10,000 km ranges from one to four liters. In principle, today many brands sin with this, so that the mine can be removed.

7- Turbine. It's still nice to leave the traffic light first, but until you encounter a turbine breakdown. She stably "dies" once every 80,000 km, and then, with gentle operation. You can generally forget about buying a used one at disassembly.

80,000 km in the piggy bank.

Let's summarize. Every 40,000 kilometers on this car, you will have to change the steering rack, levers and wheel bearings. In terms of money, such a repair will cost about 50,000 rubles. Agree, it's not that bad. But if you buy a version with a weak automatic transmission and a dead turbine, the amount will double, or even more. In other matters, you wanted to know the weaknesses on the Octavia A5, you learned them, but before you sum up any results, think about the following numbers. The rack costs about 25,000 rubles, bearings and a half, levers 4,000. On a Japanese car, you will have to pay over 100,000 rubles for the rail alone, although it runs over a hundred thousand, but not to say that 120 thousand can easily withstand.

Understand correctly, a good, working car, no one will sell you. If you are thinking of buying a used Japanese as an alternative to Skoda, then just imagine how much money you can get if you buy a tightly killed car, competently prepared for sale. It will be possible to change the same list of spare parts, but at completely different, European prices.

The first generation turned out to be the object of research by the German TUV inspection service during the 2005 technical inspection. TUV experts have identified typical malfunctions of this machine.

Overall score

disadvantages

The Czech Octavia's Golf IV inherited many ailments. Breakdowns and failures are often associated with defective air flow sensors, torn drive belts. Power windows hang halfway, the installation of side mirrors is always lost. The weak points of the diesel versions of the Octavia include the frequent failure of the clutch, which capitulates to the powerful torque of these engines. It is quite common to come across jamming door locks. And in cars of the first year of release, the rattling interior lining is annoying.

Conclusion TUV

Body, chassis

Octavia resists corrosion well, screening out of cars due to unacceptable rust, even in the seventh year of life, is minimal - 0.1%. True, there is a tendency here - almost all cases are associated with corrosion of the rear suspension elements. Occasionally, dangerous rust appears there and on more recent cars.

Electrician

The state of the on-board electrics of the Octavia is always worse than average, starting from three years old. The reason may be defective components or sloppiness of the owners, but the result is one - there are numerous complaints about the key parameters to the model. In the third year of life, due to failures, electricians did not receive a technical certificate of 10.2% Octavia, in the fifth year - 17.2%, and out of seven-year-olds every fifth car did not pass a technical inspection in Germany (21.9%).

On this point, the main problems for the Skoda Octavia are associated with the rear brakes - their efficiency is always slightly worse than the average for the fleet. Nevertheless, according to experts, it is impossible to put an unequivocal "bad" here, since the front brakes are always in excellent condition, and the development of brake discs is at a good average level. In addition, the operability of the parking brake and the general condition of the brake lines are generally satisfactory.

Ecology and exhaust

The power system on the Octavia is sealed at any age, but the exhaust line requires attention. More than 2% of three-year-olds were able to pass their first inspection only after replacing mufflers, and among seven-year-olds, there were 6.2%. This is noticeably worse than the average for the fleet.

Czech Octavia give the impression of solid cars, devoid of any pathological ailments. Still, they could benefit from more efficient rear brakes and durable mufflers.

Skoda Octavia is the car that made the Czech automaker famous throughout the Eurasian continent. The post-war socialist period was marked by stagnation for Skoda and to rectify the situation, 30% of the company was sold to the Volkswagen AG concern. In 1995, the German share rose to 70%, which marked the beginning of the appearance on the market of "Volkswagen for the Poor". Octavia marked the emergence of a popular car with German quality and affordable price, becoming one of the most successful brainchildren of the company.

What did the first generation remember?

The start of sales began in 1996. Created on the A4 platform, the hatchback had a spacious trunk of 530 liters in the normal state of the cabin and 1330 liters with the seats folded. Next, a station wagon version appeared and the maximum volumetric load increased to 1530 liters.

Octavia A4 of the first generation in the original version was produced until 2000. Then a restyled version became on the conveyor, which received updated optics and smoother body lines, several new engines were added. Restyling eliminated children's sores and reliably strengthened the Octavia's status as a people's car in people's minds.

Engines

Traditionally, the Skoda Octavia was equipped with engines from the Volkswagen concern, which are distinguished by their unpretentiousness, reliability and ease of maintenance. However, not all units are created equal, so we have selected the best and worst models.

Worst motors:

1.4V (AMD) - the only motor in the lineup, own production of a Czech company. The lower-shaft, eight-valve engine produced a modest 60 hp. and 120 N.m. torque. Such indicators were not enough even for a comfortable ride in the city, and the consumption was close to its larger counterparts. There was also a 16-valve version capable of developing 15 hp. more, but it did not meet modern requirements.

1.6V (AEE) - an atmospheric ally of "budget" trim levels. His 75 horses barely moved cars in the city, and when loaded and on suburban roads, he was frankly suffocating from lack of power.

1.8V (AGN) - a rare guest in the secondary market and so unloved eight-valve with 125 hp. Despite the noticeably greater power of 125 hp in comparison with the previous engines, only one advantage is not enough to close the increased consumption of gasoline, oil, as well as problems with the electrics.

1.9 SDI (AGP) - another archaism, with a modest 133 N / m of torque and 60 horses. In general, the motor is reliable, unpretentious and, in rare cases, can be used as the heart of a workhorse. But on the other side of the scale there are such weaknesses - high consumption, high noise, weak dynamics.

What's the best first generation motor? - it is impossible to answer unequivocally, since each unit has its own fans and haters. We have selected the most reliable, demanded and popular among those existing in the line, these are:

1.6 8V - a torque of 145 Nm, an aluminum block and the absence of sores - that's what this motor is loved for.

1.8 T - a special unit with 20 valves and a turbine produced 150 hp, and its sports version all 180. Such a motor is preferred by those who put speed first. Unlike analogues, this turbocharged engine did not suffer from oil starvation, excessive consumption of lubricant, although repairs to a complex upper part of the engine could result in a round sum.

Benefits

Roomy trunk.

The body, galvanized on both sides, begins to "bloom" only after an accident or similar mechanical damage, otherwise corrosion is quite rare even on the first versions.

The cost of a used car is less than that of single-platform competitors.

Large selection of complete sets and bodies.

Fifteen power units.

disadvantages

In the presence of electronic windows in severe frosts, the glass itself can stick to the seals.

Insufficient rigidity of the body of the pre-styling version could lead to cracks on the glass.

The timing belt requires constant replacement at least once every 70 thousand km. What year do you think the release of this modification lasted until? Before the second generation? But no! The first Octavia with the Tour prefix remained on the assembly line until 2010.

Second generation

The updated Skoda Octavia entered the assembly line in 2004. Now the car was created on the A5 platform, so the design was noticeably updated, new motors appeared. The lineup was supplemented by the all-wheel drive version of the Scout, which is a modification of the station wagon. The motors began to be aggregated by the DSG box, which was unloved by the majority. It is worth noting that if the version with wet clutches gradually gained popularity, then the modification with dry discs for a long time rooted in the minds of compatriots the association of the DSG system with huge spending.

Applicable motors

Again, the status of the best engine has to be shared among several models. The most popular motors on the domestic market are:

1.8 TSI Is the most bought motor on the market. What is good about this variation of the motor is its reliability. Diseases are minimal here - the chain must be changed every 100 thousand, despite the fact that the manufacturer considers this part to be maintenance-free. The engine forgives the low quality of the oil, but it is not worth saving on gasoline, otherwise the nozzles, along with the pump, fail.

1.6 - the second place is occupied by the familiar naturally aspirated eight-valve with distributed injection. The motor has won success for its availability, ability to withstand up to 350 thousand mileage and cheap service. He also has weak points. So, the pump must be replaced along with the timing belt, the ignition coil often fails, along with high-voltage wires. Sometimes the valve stem seals lose their elasticity ahead of time, and then the engine starts to blow up blue smoke.

1.4 TSI Is a dark horse that has become extremely popular among motorists. Low consumption with excellent dynamics in the city and on the highway - amaze any car enthusiast. There are also sores, like weak pistons, on models before 2011. There may be trouble with the liquid intercooler, which is easily clogged and can let antifreeze into the intake manifold.

The most frequent breakdowns

Due to the poor quality of painting, the paint layer bubbles easily, exposing the galvanized body.

Electronic components and wiring of the engine compartment are sensitive to moisture and quite often cause a visit to the service.

Early models quickly wore out the rear bushings of the front suspension.

The bad roads package suffers from rapid breakage of the rear springs.

Alarm relay button, often fails.

Benefits

High-quality interior with decent materials, even in a budget package.

Excellent safety performance for driver, passengers and pedestrians.

Modest consumption of the presented motors, as well as low cost of maintenance and consumables.

The secondary market price is lower than that of competitors.

Third generation

From 2012 to the present, the third generation of the Skoda Octavia car has been produced, on the universal MQB platform. The new base allowed designers and engineers to realize more daring fantasies. The output was the most beautiful model in 16 years, which after a while will become even more attractive after restyling. Not only the appearance has changed, but the whole concept of the car.

Now, even in the basic configuration, the driver does not feel prejudiced, and the most expensive versions will compete with Volkswagen and Audi. This is also noticeable in the cost, which is very close to the presented brands. If earlier the driver received more for his money, now you can think about buying the original, not a copy. Like other generations, the third has its pros and cons, although the negative factors are becoming less and less every year.

Power plant overview

For the whimsical domestic driver, the choice of engines was simplified as much as possible, leaving the 1.6 atmosphere that everyone loved and two turbo engines of 1.4 and 1.8 liters. They are combined with a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed automatic or a robotic DSG in 6 or 7 stages. The latter will traditionally be in the minority, although the wet clutch system and work on previous bugs promise drivers smooth shifting, quiet operation and no overheating when trying to park on a hill.

Benefits

Nice interior and nice materials, good sound insulation

Excellent ergonomics.

An abundance of electronic systems.

High quality multimedia.

Catchy appearance.

Affordable cost of the basic configuration.

2 years warranty with no mileage limitation (taxi drivers will appreciate it)

disadvantages

Zhor of oil from a used engine.

The DSG box hasn't gotten rid of all its flaws.

Large PTF glass, easily broken by stones.

There is no gas stop for the hood.

ESP does not turn off

Rigid suspension

In custody

Each of the generations has its own pros and cons, but this car has managed to carry its main features through the decades. For which every driver will love the Skoda Octavia it is safety for the driver and passengers, reasonable cost of the car and operation, durable components and assemblies. Also, the driver gets one of the largest luggage racks in the class, allowing you to carry everything you need. Not in the last place is the appearance, which, although it does not seem particularly attractive, allows you to maintain a "fresh" appearance even after decades.
