The Kia Rio 3 oil and oil filter change intervals are 15,000 km or once a year. Given the harsh operating conditions, some drivers prefer to change the oil earlier - by 10,000. There is no harm from this (except for the wallet).

The filling volume of oil, including the filter, is 3.3 liters. Recommended pour oil KIA / HYUNDAI Premium Gasoline 5W20, KIA / HYUNDAI Super Extra Gasoline 5W30, SHELL Helix PLUS 5W30 / 5W40, SHELL Helix ULTRA 0W40 / 5W30 / 5W40 or Exxon Mobil SHC Formula MB 5W30. The oil quality level must be at least ACEA A3 or SL and higher according to API.

The car is installed on a flat surface and jacked up in the front, or driven onto a ramp, overpass, lift, pit. Then you need to remove the crankcase protection, if installed.

Then you need to loosen the drain plug, substitute the container, pull out the plug and drain the oil into the container. Be careful with hot oil - If it gushes out of the hole, it can burn your hands. While the oil is draining, it is worth inspecting the drain plug, replacing the gasket if it is damaged. When the oil stops flowing out in a stream, tighten the plug and tighten with a wrench.

Nearby is oil filter, which the also needs to be replaced... A properly installed filter should be unscrewed by hand, if it does not come out, then with a puller. When you unscrew it, a little oil will also run from it.

Fill a new filter one third with fresh oil. Lubricate the sealing gum with it. The new oil filter hand tightens three-quarters of a turn after the rubber band touches the seat.

The topic of choosing an oil for Kia Rio is extensive. Very reliable engines are installed on the entire range of Korean cars. However, if you do not carry out the required maintenance, without timely diagnostics, any, even the most reliable, motor will start to fail.

Regular frequency of oil change in Kia Rio is one of the important stages in car maintenance. This is especially true for those cars that have already been in operation for some time. The engine receives a serious load, and therefore suffers from premature wear without proper care.

The oil change interval depends on the manufacturer's recommendations. To avoid wear and tear, the manufacturer recommends replacing the product at least every 10,000 km. At the same time, about three liters of fluid is poured into the engine. The obvious fact is that the oil needs to be changed on time and regularly. The main indicator in order to decide whether an oil change is necessary is its viscosity or the degree of fluidity.

At the same time with oil in service centers always. If you decide to make the replacement procedure yourself, take into account some of the different years of release.

For example, for cars from 2015,2012,2013,2014, you can choose several suitable options:

  • Shell Helix Ultra;
  • Total Quartz;
  • Divinol;
  • ZIC XQ LS.

Price-quality analysis shows that the best option from the presented ones is Shell Helix Ultra... The branded product includes the entire set of additives and minerals. Using it for the Korean Rio is quite justified. Shell does not lose its positive qualities with long-term active use, which is also an undoubted plus for this company's oil.

Total quartz boasts impressive performance. This oil is also capable of keeping all engine parts in working order. The price of a branded product is also not great. The original characteristics of the additives and minerals that make up the oil retain their qualities even with active long-term vehicle operation.

Company oil Divinol differs from the previous ones in small consumption. Despite the fact that the brand has not received widespread advertising in the media, it is actively bought by knowledgeable motorists. The option is quite suitable for KIA, as it copes with all the engine protection functions.

Oil ZIC Is another affordable product. An impressive list of additives that make up its composition, perhaps, will alert someone. However, they directly affect the protection of the motor against premature wear. It can be safely cast into the Rio engine.

If we consider the choice of oil from the point of view of choosing a brand, then this activity is practically useless. Every car owner has their own preferences. It is unlikely that someone wants to change the brand, just reading one article. Moreover, the manufacturer Rio does not recommend changing the brand of oil. If you purchased one specific product for replacement, then it is better to use it in the future. Or use the services of the same auto repair shop.

If you carefully study the technical specifications in KIA, you can highlight the following important information:

  • manufacturer's recommended engine oil - Shell HELIX;
  • filling volume 3.3-3.49 liters;
  • aPI Servise classification - 4 or higher;
  • temperature range for recommended viscosity values \u200b\u200bfrom -30C (5W20) to +50 (20W50)

In this case, the driver's memo says that before pouring oil, you must make sure that the surface near the filler cap and the filler hole is clean. The oil dipstick should also be clean. These figures are especially important if the vehicle is operated in dusty, dirty conditions. For example, when driving on suburban dirt roads. Timely cleaning of these parts (dipstick and cover) will keep the engine free of dust and sand.

KIA Rio engines of later releases are made with no gaps between rubbing parts. Oil with a lower viscosity penetrates better into clearances, better lubricating parts. Oil with a viscosity of 5W-40 almost does not flow into narrow gaps, leaving them without lubrication. Incorrectly filled oil causes early engine wear. That is why it is important to follow all the manufacturer's recommendations when changing the oil. This requirement applies to both gasoline and diesel engines.

It is more important to choose the right oil for the KIA engine, not by the brand name, but by the API, IlSAC quality class. It is important to take into account that the manufacturer recommends a different oil for each generation of KIA. The more modern the engine is, the higher the quality of the product should be. API SL and ILSAC GF-3, for example, are only recommended for first generation KIAs. Higher quality oils - API SM / SN and ILSAC GF-4 / GF-5 - are quite suitable for cars produced in 2000-2005.

Rio 2005-2009 requires API SM and ILSAC GF-4 oils. As in the previous case, the oil is of a higher quality, for example, API SN and ILSAC GF-5 are quite a suitable option. Lower quality oil cannot be used. In KIA Rio 2015, it is recommended to use API SN and ILSAC GF-5 oil. If we are talking about a KIA Rio with a diesel engine, according to the manufacturer's recommendation, use oil of API CH-4 quality, but lower. A higher quality product is quite suitable, for example, Hyundai Premium LS Diesel 5 W30 oil.

So, in the question of choosing an oil for Rio, one rhetorical question remained: synthetics or semi-synthetics? It is impossible to say that one type of oil is worse and the other is better. As we have already discussed above, there are suitable oils for the engine, and there are unsuitable ones, among those and others there are high-quality, and there are low-quality ones.

According to most ordinary people, it is better to choose synthetic oils for Rio engines. Such oils do not lose their properties during long-term active operation of the vehicle. However, synthetic oils are more expensive than semi-synthetics.

Information for those who value savings: there is another little-known type of oils - hydrocracking. Ei oils are produced from the hydrosynthesis of oil. This type of processing is low in cost, and therefore the final product is much cheaper than other types of oils. True, such oils lose quality faster than synthetic ones. The oil is suitable where the car engine is not exposed to serious wear. That is, for owners who do not use their KIA often.

Change engine oil on a car KIA Rio can be at a service station (STO) or independently. This procedure is described in some detail in the manual for the car, and is not particularly difficult. Taking into account the prices for service stations, it is best to change the oil yourself. This will significantly save the family budget.

Usually, do-it-yourself engine oil change on Kia Rio 2011-2017, is no different from the procedure that is carried out at the service station. The recommended frequency of changing engine oil on the Kia Rio is 15,000 km. But in practice, it is better to make a replacement after 7,000-10,000 km. This is not surprising when you take into account the condition of the roads and the urban pace of the car with frequent stops. All these circumstances lead to a rapid deterioration in the quality of engine oil. First of all, the lubricating and cleaning properties of the oil deteriorate, which greatly increases engine wear and reduces its resource. At the same time, when changing the engine oil, you should not forget about changing the oil filter. Oil and filter are always changed at the same time on any car.

In practice, changing the oil on the KIA Rio independently can be done in two ways:

- Vacuum pumping of oil. Vacuum pumping is usually done through the engine oil dipstick hole. This method is good because there is no need for a lift or overpass. The main disadvantage is the need to use special equipment, which is not even available in every service station.

- Draining from the pallet of the car. The second, traditional and proven method for decades, is more reliable, since all waste accumulates in the engine sump. Vacuum pumping is simply not capable of pumping out all the waste oil from the sump.

To change the oil, we need:

  1. Oil filter - 26300-35503.
  2. Engine oil - as a rule, barrel SHELL HELIX ULTRA 5w-30 is poured from an authorized dealer, it is recommended by the KIA plant. But you can buy it in an ordinary four-liter canister. When choosing an oil, it is worth considering what is indicated in the warranty: 5W-30 oil of SN or SM class (SN- is better, since it is a more modern standard).
  3. Engine oil pan drain plug gasket - 21513-23001
  4. Wrench for "17" for twisting the drain plug.
  5. Flushing oil 3 liters.

Oil change.

The replacement process is carried out on a warmed-up engine, the heated oil is more fluid and easily drained from the lubrication system.

- After a ten-minute warm-up of the engine, you need to drive into the inspection pit. If necessary, this is not difficult, you should unscrew several fastening bolts. will prevent us when replacing the oil filter. At a certain level of dexterity, it is possible to remove the protection not completely, but to unscrew only two bolts fastening to the subframe.

- Then it is necessary to drain the used oil from the crankcase into a container specially prepared for this purpose. The crankcase plug must be unscrewed very carefully, as the oil is very hot, it is better to use gloves and glasses.

- After the oil is glass, the plug can be changed in two ways, with and without flushing oil:

  1. With flushing oil. Tighten the drain plug after replacing the drain plug gasket and fill in about 3 liters of flushing oil. Run the engine for about 10 minutes and drain the oil again. (There is a way to remove residual flushing oil by repeating the flushing procedure only using 2-2.5 liters of oil, which you will fill when changing.).
  2. No flushing oil. With this option, we remove the residual waste oil from the crankcase, for this we use a syringe with a curved needle.

The question of the use of flushing oil is in cases where it is not known which oil was filled earlier or a switch to another type of oil is made. In other cases, you can do without using it. Modern engine oils already have detergent and cleaning properties in the required amount for cleaning the engine lubrication system.

- Now you can twist the oil filter for replacement. This can usually be done by hand without using a special tool. Before installing a new filter, pour 150-200 ml of oil into it. Then we carefully wind the new oil filter with our hands. There is enough hand strength to tighten the filter, this will allow you to easily twist it by hand at the next replacement.

If it didn't work out to remove the filter by hand, it doesn't matter if there is a special tool or the old old-fashioned way. It's simple, we take a thicker screwdriver and a hammer, punch the filter through with a screwdriver and unscrew it with this lever.

- After completing all the procedures with the key on "17" we tighten the drain plug, having previously replaced the gasket.
