Sequence of actions (also for cars with air conditioning)

  1. The hood of the car is opened, using a set of open-end wrenches, the air filter and the air supply pipe are removed, which is attached to it (to remove the pipe, the fastening clamps are loosened with a flat screwdriver).

  2. There are 3 bolts on the power steering pulley. They are weakened. After that, the upper bolt is unscrewed on the generator (it is there 1). As a result, the tension on the alternator belt is weakened and it can be easily removed. Next, the power steering pulley is removed.

  3. The timing belt cover is attached with four bolts 10. These bolts are unscrewed, after which the cover is removed.
  4. After opening the belt cover, the crankshaft rotates until the mark on the pulley coincides with the mark on the top cover (the coincidence of these marks means that the piston 1 of the cylinder has reached top dead center).

  5. If there is no inspection hole, the right wheel of the car is jacked up and removed. Then the right wheel arch liner is unscrewed. There is an air resonator behind it, it is also removable. Thus, access to the plastic protective panel is opened, behind which the belt is located.
  6. The protection is removed with a 10 open-end wrench (it is held by 2 bolts and 2 nuts). In some Chevrolet Lanos models, this panel may not be made of plastic, but steel.

  7. Now you can see the bolt on which the crankshaft pulleys are attached. It is unscrewed with a wrench (and its wrench must be very long, and the end head must be 17). All this is done in order to loosen the tension roller from the air conditioner drive (provided that this device is available in the car). Through the above procedure, the tensioner roller is released so that the air conditioner belt can be removed freely.

  10. The tensioner roller is fixed in the retracted position with a screwdriver. There are holes on the strip of this roller, which must be aligned.

Replacing a lamp in some other car is a relatively simple operation: raise the hood, remove the lamp from the socket, replace it with a working one and close the hood. H to replace the lamps in the Chevrolet Lanos headlight, you need to remove its housing with the contents from the car body. You can try to replace it without removing the headlight unit, but then there is a possibility of damage to the unit's parts, which will entail either the housing repair or its replacement.

To remove the headlamp housing from its location, you need a 10 wrench, with which we unscrew two bolts and a nut. A socket wrench is best suited for this job. The bolts are easy to find, they are immediately visible and they attach the headlight unit to the top of the bar above it. The nut is more difficult to find, since it is located between the headlight housing and the radiator and closes the wires in the harness from the car owner.

After unscrewing the bolts and nut, we take out the headlight unit from the attachment point. To do this, raise the body to the top and take it out of the slot towards the wing of the car. Carefully remove the pin to which the headlight unit was attached to the nut and take out the unit body by fifteen centimeters to disconnect the wires.

Consider the example of the right headlight (when viewed in the direction of the vehicle). The wires are connected in two places in the body: in the middle and at the near edge of the machine's radiator. We carefully disconnect the middle block, and the last one, which supplies electricity to the cornering lamp, can not be disconnected, but remove the contact block with the lamp. To do this, you need to turn the gray socket with the lamp counterclockwise by forty-five degrees. To remove the central block of contacts, you need to press the latch at the top of the block and carefully remove it.

After disconnecting the wires, we put the headlight housing on a workbench or table for more convenient work with it, optical elements from ourselves. We see on the left the connector for the cornering lamp, then the round cover of the high-beam lamp compartment, behind it is the contact block, and on the right is the cover of the dipped-beam lamp compartment and the lamp of dimensions.

Carefully remove the cover of the low-beam section and see the block of the low-beam lamp, and to the right the mounting of the side light lamp. Then we replace the faulty low beam lamp.

But when installing, be careful, since the lamp, according to the design of the headlight unit, can be installed in two positions, but it must be installed in the correct position. If installed incorrectly, the low beam of the car will dazzle the drivers of oncoming traffic, creating emergency situations. Therefore, when installing, make sure that the low beam lamp is installed in the diffuser with the projection up.
It is imperative to assemble the headlight in the reverse order of disassembly. The assembled headlight unit should not be fixed immediately, but it is better to first check the correct installation and operation of all lamps and in the desired mode. This car is considered one of the best options only if the budget for buying a car is small, and Lanos is also perfect for novice drivers. Like most used cars, Chevrolet Lanos has a number of drawbacks, but what they are, and what you need to pay attention to when buying, I will tell you in this article.

A bit of history:

The first Lanos was presented by the Korean company Daewoo at the Geneva Motor Show, but development began much earlier, in 1993. The body design was developed by the renowned design studio ItalDesign under the direction of Giorgetto Giugiaro. The powertrains are partially borrowed from Opel and improved by Porsche engineers. After General Motors bought 42% of shares in Daewoo in 2002, it was decided to jointly produce this car model. The motor is equipped with a timing belt drive, with a service replacement interval every 60,000 km. However, with the replacement, it is better not to tighten it and carry it out a little earlier, since after 50,000 km there is a high probability of a belt breaking, which leads to serious consequences (bends the valve). Many owners, in order to save money, refuel with low-quality fuel, this leads to quick clogging and premature failure of the gas pump.

Often surprises are presented by the cooling system - the radiator stops functioning, the pump and thermostat fail. If a malfunction is not identified in time, this can lead to overheating of the engine, and, in the future, to expensive repairs (leads to the cylinder head). The sensors of the injection system, absolute pressure, throttle position and lambda probe are not famous for their reliability. A fairly common problem, when the engine starts to run unstably (idle rpm), to fix the problem requires replacing the idle sensor. Of the advantages of the engine, one can single out unpretentiousness in the quality of fuel and a fairly large resource before overhaul (up to 500,000 km).

Transmission

Chevrolet Lanos was equipped with only a five-speed manual transmission, no alternative to which was provided. Most of the complaints here are not so much about reliability and durability as about its user characteristics. Most often, the transmission is criticized for unclear gear shifting and noisy operation. If the gearbox begins to hum a lot, try to change the oil every 30,000 km, this procedure slightly improves the situation, but does not completely solve the problem. Once every 50-60 thousand km, adjustment of the backstage is required, which loosens for no particular reason. Chevrolet Lanos is equipped with a semi-independent suspension: in the front - MacPherson strut, in the rear - a beam with trailing arms hinged to the body. As for the reliability of the suspension, it is difficult to call it hardy. Most of all complaints are caused by the resource of shock absorbers and their springs, which in rare cases exceeds 30,000 km. Hub bearings can start buzzing even after 20,000 km (the rear ones require adjustment), but often they are enough for 30-40 thousand km, about the same will serve the ball bearings. Silent blocks and thrust bearings run on average 50-70 thousand km.

As for the reliability of the steering rack, it all depends on the operating conditions, but if we take the average, then its resource is 60-80 thousand km. Steering tips and rods start knocking after 50,000 km. It is worth noting that all the data refer only to the original parts, also, you need to understand that most owners take inexpensive analogues, and their resource may be several times less. The biggest plus of the Chevrolet Lanos chassis is that its repair is quite cheap, and if you have even the slightest idea about the structure of the chassis of the car, you can do it yourself.
