Chevrolet Lacetti brake fluid. The amount of oil filling and what fluids are prescribed for the Chevrolet Lacetti What is the brake fluid in the Chevrolet Lacetti

Many owners of Chevrolet Lacetti or Cruz cars are interested in the question - what brand of brake fluid GM 93160363 or 1942421 should be poured into the braking system?

Currently, you do not need to go to a dealer to add brake fluid. Instead, we purchase brake fluid from a store or a trusted supplier using the part number. Remember the marking:

93160363 - GM brake fluid marking
1942421 - opel brake fluid marking

The brake fluid of both types is absolutely the same, but it is produced for different conveyors by Adam Opel AG, Russelsheim Germany. The fluid for the brake system of a Chevrolet Lacetti or Cruz car has a DOT-4 class, light orange color and is packaged in a white 0.25 / 0.5 / 1 liter sealed plastic container. The canister has a transparent scale by which you can determine the color and amount of liquid in the canister. The stopper is detachable, which allows you to check whether the canister has been opened earlier. The front side is marked with the month and year marking the last opportunity to open and use this brake fluid canister.

Many motorists are a little worried about the canister marking. Remember again - brake fluid marked 93160363 is absolutely identical to marking 1942421. They can be interchanged and mixed with each other!

The average price of a 0.5 liter canister of GM 93160363 or 1942421 brake fluid in retail is from 410 to 523 rubles. Its cost in an online store (for example, EMEX) is from 280-300 rubles with a delivery time of 2 days. The closest recommended counterparts are FEBI 21754, Seiken BF405L, SWAG 10921754 and AD LFS1. Do not fill in brake fluid from domestic manufacturers.

Many owners of the Chevrolet Lacetti have encountered such a phenomenon as a falling brake fluid level. The occurrence of such an effect can be associated with wear of the brake pads or other malfunctions in this system. After eliminating the trouble, the question arises - what liquid to add. In this article, we will try to make out all the nuances and subtleties.

The process of adding brake fluid to the car.

As you know, the Chevrolet brand belongs to the American corporation General Motors, although the car is assembled in Korea, and accordingly all the standards are applied by this particular company.

Fluids also belong to the standardization point, and therefore only recommended and certified lubricants are poured from the factory in the Chevrolet Lacetti.

  • According to the service documentation, which we managed to obtain from the manuals of the manufacturer's factory in Lacetti, at the factory during assembly, it is poured brake fluid class DOT-4 .
  • This is the original General Motors lubricant, which has the part number - 93160363 .
  • The average cost of one liter of such liquid is 1200 rubles.

Brake fluid manufactured by General Motors.

There is also a GM fluid labeled 1942421, which was intended for Opel cars, but in 2005-2006 it was poured into the Chevrolet Lacetti. This grease and GM 93160363 have identical characteristics, composition and properties. According to the manufacturer's explanation, two greases with different markings can be mixed with each other without any consequences. They are considered interchangeable.

Therefore, if the motorist is sure that a complete replacement of the brake fluid has not been carried out on the vehicle, then you can safely fill GM 93160363 or GM 1942421.

After a complete fluid change

As practice shows, in Russia they carry out a complete replacement of brake fluid not with GM 93160363 or GM 1942421, but with the usual RosDot-4. This is due to the fact that the brand of the Russian manufacturer is quite cheaper than the American counterpart.

Such a radical change occurs, as a rule, at the third vehicle maintenance.

Brake fluid produced by RosDot-4.

Therefore, if you need to add brake fluid, you need to pay attention to the mileage and other factors. It is advisable to have on hand a printout of previous repairs and maintenance, which indicates which liquid was poured.

The difference between the original brake fluid and the domestic analogue

The original brake fluid is not as dark as its domestic counterpart.

As a rule, so as not to be confused, brake fluids GM 93160363 / GM 1942421 and RosDot-4 have characteristic differences. The American brand is distinguished by color, or rather shade.

GM brake fluid has a bluish tint, unlike its domestic counterpart, which is darker, with a brown tint.

Thus, a motorist can unscrew the brake fluid reservoir and understand that it is actually poured into the car.

conclusions

You can add brake fluid without replacing it in a Chevrolet Lacetti, only in this case you need to know what kind of lubricant was filled. As practice shows, GM liquids are poured 93160363 / GM 1942421 or RosDot-4 ... They can be distinguished by their color and viscosity.

Replacing the Lacetti brake fluid is a very necessary procedure. Moreover, it is not particularly difficult to replace the brake fluid on your own.

It is also worth noting that the hydraulic brake drive and the hydraulic clutch drive on the Chevrolet Lacetti are powered from the same reservoir, so when changing the fluid in the hydraulic brake drive, it is advisable to change the brake fluid in the clutch release drive.

The working brake system of the Chevrolet Lacetti is dual-circuit, diagonal. Each of the brake circuits of the Lacetti includes the braking mechanisms of two wheels: one front and one rear, located diagonally on the car. In case of failure of one of the circuits, the second circuit, albeit with less efficiency, will stop the car.

Why change brake fluid

It is recommended to change the brake fluid every 2-3 years, depending on the age of the car and the condition of the brake system as a whole. Those. the older the car, the more often it is desirable to change the brake fluid. Also, if the liquid has changed color prematurely, then it must be changed without waiting for a certain period.

The most important answer to the question - why change the brake fluid is that the brake fluid is hygroscopic. Simply put, it absorbs moisture. This is very, very bad for two main reasons.

First, it leads to increased corrosion of the brake system components.

Secondly, the boiling point of the brake fluid drops sharply. The following can be read on the brake fluid container:

It can be seen that the boiling point decreases by 30-40% in just one year!

I think it makes no sense to give further arguments in favor of regular replacement of brake fluid.

Step by step replacement of the Lacetti brake fluid

For work you will need an assistant, a 10 mm spanner wrench, and:

Rubber bulb or syringe;
- transparent vinyl tube with an inner diameter of 4-5 mm, fits from a dropper;
- tank for draining the used brake fluid;
- fresh brake fluid DOT4. The Lacetti brake system is filled with 0.5 liters of fluid. But you buy at least 1 liter for replacement;
- observation pit or overpass (preferably).

1. Unscrew the cover of the reservoir of the master brake cylinder of the Chevrolet Lacetti and select all the old brake fluid with a syringe or a rubber bulb

2. Fill the tank with fresh liquid up to the upper edge.

Important:
In order to avoid air penetration into the hydraulic drive of the brake system when changing the brake fluid, make sure that its level in the reservoir does not fall below the "min" mark.

3. On the rear right wheel we find the bleed fitting, clean it from dirt and put a transparent tube on it. It is advisable to apply WD-40 to it, otherwise these fittings have the properties of "sticking". We lower the other end of the tube into a container for waste liquid.

4. The assistant slowly presses the brake pedal (approximately 5 times at intervals of 1-2 seconds) and keeps the pedal depressed. At this moment, you unscrew the union 3/4 of a turn. Liquid should begin to drain from the fitting through the pipe until the brake pedal reaches the floor. Then tighten the fitting. The assistant should not release the pedal until you screw the fitting!

Note! It so happens that when unscrewing the fitting, the liquid does not flow through the tube. Especially if you are overdue for replacing the brake fluid. This means that the inner bore of the fitting is clogged. It is necessary to unscrew the union completely and clean the hole. Then screw the union back into place and continue bleeding the brake system.

Repeat this sequence again until fresh liquid begins to come out of the tube (you will determine it by color).

5. Then we carry out this procedure in sequence - left rear, right front, left front. And we closely monitor the level of brake fluid!

I will say a few words about the sequence of pumping the calipers. Someone is pumping diagonally, someone from far to near ... I think there is not much difference. I've tried this and that. The result is always the same. Therefore, I do it the way I feel comfortable and as I'm used to in the old-fashioned way - right rear, left rear, right front, left front.

Therefore, decide for yourself in what sequence to do it.

Here is the pumping of the last caliper

After fresh and clean brake fluid comes out of all the fittings, add it to the level in the tank, close the tank cap and make a test drive, paying attention to the operation of the brakes. After the trip, take a control measurement of the level in the tank.

Possible Caliper Problems and Solutions

That's all. Take care of yourself and good luck on the road!

The reliability of the vehicle stop system depends on the condition of the brake fluid in the circuit. To maintain the performance of the brakes, timely replacement of the fluid, its correct choice and adherence to the recommendations for filling are required. Otherwise, there is a risk of "boiling" of the brake circuit, for example, during an intensive, emergency stop of the machine.

The choice of brake fluid for the Chevrolet Lacetti

The original General Motors brake fluid has the article number 93160363. Its cost is just over 1000 rubles.

For Chevrolet Lacetti it is allowed to use GM branded brake fluid with catalog number 1942421. This TJ is used in Opel cars. It has an identical composition and characteristics with the original GM 93160363 brake fluid. According to official recommendations, both TJs are interchangeable and can be mixed by refilling.

Recommended third party brake fluids must be DOT4 + grade. The use of other TJs can cause rapid wear of the brake circuit elements and cause its failure. Therefore, you should only purchase brake fluids that meet all General Motors requirements. The best TJ options for the Chevrolet Lacetti are shown in the table below.

Replacement frequency

According to the maintenance regulations, the brake fluid must be replaced every 30 thousand km. At the same time, it is necessary to fill in fresh TZ every 2 years, regardless of the mileage of the car. In the case of Chevrolet Lacetti operation with a trailer, it is recommended to reduce the replacement time to 15 thousand km. Also, the interval must be shortened when the machine is used frequently on mountain roads. Unscheduled brake filling is required in the following cases:

  • repeated boiling of the liquid in the circuit occurs;
  • presence of third-party impurities in the slurry;
  • continuous airing of the brake circuit;
  • the presence of plaque on the walls of the tank;
  • the smell of burnt comes from the slurry;
  • mechanical damage was found on the tank body;
  • the ingress of moisture or other technical liquid into the TZ has occurred.

Also, an unscheduled brake fluid replacement is necessary after purchasing a supported car. This is due to the fact that the quality of the liquid poured into the circuit is unknown.

TJ filling rules

Waste slurry and fresh brakes are very toxic, so it is forbidden to simply pour them onto the ground. It is necessary to use specially prepared containers.

The ingress of even a small amount of oil into the TJ can lead to a significant deterioration in the braking ability of the car. Therefore, avoid wiping the surfaces in contact with the brakes with a rag with residual grease.

Brake fluid is hygroscopic; therefore, if stored in an open container, it absorbs moisture from the surrounding air. As a result, the boiling point of the TFA drops. The risk of running out of brakes increases. Therefore, it is forbidden to use brake fluid from an open container, even if it has been stored there for a short time.

The brake circuit is sealed. Therefore, from replacement to replacement, there should be no significant decrease in the level of TAs. If the volume of brake fluid has decreased significantly, then simple refilling is prohibited. It is important to find the place of the leak and fill in fresh fluid only after fixing it.

Otherwise, the brakes may fail during operation of the vehicle.

Required tools

To replace the TJ with the Lacetti, you will need the tools that are shown in the table below.

Table - List of tools required to replace the brake fluid.

Replacing brake fluid with Lacetti

In order for the replacement of brake fluid on a Chevrolet Lacetti to be successful, you must follow the instructions below.

  • Open the brake fluid reservoir cap.
  • Using a syringe, hose or rubber bulb, pump out the old liquid from the tank as much as possible.

  • Pour fresh fluid into the tank up to the edge or maximum mark.
  • Remove dirt from the right rear wheel fitting.
  • Remove the protective cap from the fitting.

  • Using a socket wrench, loosen the union.
  • Put one end of the transparent tube on the fitting. Lower the second into a container for draining the slurry.

  • Tell the assistant to press the brake pedal 3-6 times. After that, he needs to fix the pedal in the lower position.
  • Unscrew the union half a turn. At the same time, the old slurry will run.
  • When the TJ stops flowing, it is required to wrap the union. Then you can release the pedal.
  • Bleeding is carried out until new brake fluid begins to flow through the transparent hose.
  • After bleeding the right rear wheel, you must perform the same steps for the left front. Upon completion with it, you need to proceed to the left rear. The final stage in displacing the old brake fluid is to drain it through the fitting of the right front wheel.
  • Add brake fluid to the maximum level.
  • Close the tank.
  • Check the performance of the Chevrolet Lacetti brake system.
