At the end of 2016, the Russian office of Volkswagen sent Golf on an academic leave. Due to the lack of localization and, as a result, the high price, one of the best hatches of the class named after itself was not needed by the ailing market. But time heals - and two years later the Golf is back. Rested, prettier. And with. How do you like the test 150 ‑ horsepower hatch in the previously unavailable color Kurkuma Yellow? The fire? And after you find out about the price - 1.6 million?

The sticks in the beautiful "seventeenth" golf wheels are inserted not only by the lack of localization and the exchange rate. While the "German" was chilling abroad, Russia was attacked by Kia. In the summer, the third generation Ceed appeared, which became even more European and ready to shake the position of Golf in the Old World. And in the fall, dealers rolled out. We took a hatchback with a 1.6-liter aspirated 128 horsepower (this is the most popular modification) and a sedan with a two-liter 150-horsepower engine. The prices are tastier - 1,189,900 and 1,289,900 rubles, respectively. As the last piece of the puzzle, the Russian-assembled Jetta sedan suggested itself. But this is not our case - the "sixth" Jetta was created in the pre-modular era and does not fit ideologically. By the way, due to the change of generations, the production of Jetta in Nizhny Novgorod was stopped; dealers listlessly sell the leftovers - hurry up if you want.

As a result, with a 1.4-liter turbo engine for one and a half million, it fits perfectly into the company.

Let's start with Golf. It's eerie how interesting what has changed there during the restyling! The official release talks about (bend your fingers!) New bumpers, grille, front fenders and LED headlights, replacing xenon. But step back a few steps - and in front of you presented at the 2012 Paris Motor Show... The only reinforced concrete identifier is a new color, for which 10,000 rubles are asked.

Kia wants exactly the same amount for metallic, although not long ago the Koreans did not take a dime for it. But the test Ceed is painted free white. And Cerato - in expressionless Horizon Blue (although there is a magical Runway Red in the palette). You look at a couple of freshly baked "Koreans", look at Volkswagen - and you realize that in the context of the monochrome Russian winter Golf in "turmeric" looks more interesting and modern. What a six-year difference there is!

Look is a separate song altogether. Have you gotten used to the front end in two years? I don't. The situation could be corrected by the “erasable” color of Rallye Green. But in the palette of civilian versions, there are only six dull (okay, let's call them strict) shades. The surcharge for metallic paint is already 16,700 rubles. And yet, our charges are too versatile for us to choose only with our wallet or eyes. Isn't it true?

Silver and stamping

On the pleasantness of the interior, the favorite is the Golf. The airy plastic of the front panel, the perfectly profiled driver's seat, which now can do massage. Thanks to Alcantara, it even smells like audiush here... Restyling brought an optional 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and heated front glass without filament - a thin layer of conductive silver is integrated into its structure. On hot days, this thing prevents overheating.





The degree of premium in the Octavia's cabin is lower, although not much. There is also contour lighting in the doors, a cool Bolero multimedia system with an eight-inch touchscreen and induction charging for gadgets. Skoda is simpler than Volkswagen in seemingly inconspicuous little things: a regular handbrake instead of an electronic one, there is no curtain for the cup holder section, there is more bare plastic to the left of the driver. But all this is nonsense against the background of insipid and inexpressive design.





Those who are definitely not shy about expressing themselves are the interior designers of Kia. In Side, you want to consider every detail, run your fingers along the bends of the console, which - like in Golf - is turned towards the driver. And at the same time be glad that the touchscreen is located at eye level. Although the multimedia itself, like the finishing materials, is simpler than the Skoda one.

Cerato is finished a little more modestly, but it is not devoid of (not to the detriment of ergonomics!) Original "chips" like deflectors-turbines. Remove the dummy stitching from the panel - and it would be great. However, I do not exclude that someone and she pleases the eye.

Addiction is not a sentence

A well-tuned car does not take some getting used to. Driving the Golf from the first seconds you feel as if you are driving it every day.

Has anything changed in? Offhand - no. In normal modes, the car was and remains understandable and predictable, capable of excellently keeping a straight line, pleasing with an intelligible brake pedal drive and a "rapid-fire" gearbox, which seems to have become a little more delicate in traffic jams. But on the winding, high-speed suburban highway, the Golf raises questions. Upsetting with nervous and non-linear reactions in the near-zero zone and the lack of steering feedback - this is so atypical for a Volkswagen that I go out and check. With pressure - order!




Perhaps I'm making an elephant out of a fly. After a little "rolled" into the car, the unpleasant feature was dissolved in the undoubted advantages - quite energy-intensive, despite the 17-inch wheels, suspension, excellent sound insulation and explosive character motor, which added 10 hp. and now deals with the first hundred in 8.2 seconds (our lax measurements showed that Volkswagen is not cunning in this).




And yet, imagine my surprise when, after changing into a soplatform Octavia with a rear semi-independent suspension (the Golf has a multi-link), I immediately got what I expected from Volkswagen - absolute linearity of reactions when the steering wheel is deflected even by a fraction of a degree and an impeccable effort on the steering wheel! Octavia, unlike Golf, can be equipped with a Drive Mode Select system: the activated "sport" mode will "clamp" the electric booster and sharpen the response to the accelerator. However, Octavia even in the "default" does not lag behind the Golf on a straight line... And he writes arcs just as confidently.




After talking with German turbo engines and preselectives, Sid's 1.6-liter aspirated engine, colluding with a six-speed automatic, does not overwhelm. But this is by no means a vegetable! Hydromechanics tuck the gears quickly and to the place, and the engine gives all the best, which the "Korean" is gaining in 11.3 seconds ... This is again faster than the passport data and is explained either by the cold air, so beloved by motors, or by the inaccuracy of the device. Since the latter has not previously been seen in the manipulation of facts, I bet on the former.



In fact, Ceed is disadvantageously distinguished from Volkswagen and Skoda only by its harsh suspension and less effective protection from engine noise. "Speed \u200b\u200bbumps" he passes painfully even at low speed and overweight "fifty-fifth" tires. It's good at least that the flip side of this rigidity is composure. Let Octavia's new Ceed (with a multi-link, by the way!) Not tax yet, but it can compete with the Golf. Despite the same rating in the "Controllability" column, I liked Ceed a little more. And, as in Skoda, you can change the steering effort.

Cerato is initially positioned as Sid's "poor relative": with a semi-independent suspension,. And goes accordingly. A distinct background from the road is added to the hatchback's unpleasant motor song, the effort on the steering wheel - even though it is regulated - is thinner, and there are more rolls. It is time to urge about the filters of perception, but the fact remains: in terms of handling, Cerato is the saddest car in our quartet... The situation is slightly pulled out by a capable two-liter aspirated, which (suddenly!) Deals with a hundred in 8.9 seconds against the passport 9.8.

Two passengers in the back row of any of today's contestants feel comfortable (to one degree or another). How about a trip for three? We rammed ourselves into each of the cars in turn, and the photographer captured our happy (or not?) Faces. Of course, when comparing such different cars, the test results are questionable. Initially, it was clear that the Octavia, whose fifth door is akin to a closet in Narnia, will beat everyone up in practicality. It is clear that the 128-strong Ceed will give way to the 150-strong opponents in acceleration dynamics. And it is quite obvious that in matters of service, Kia, with its five-year warranty, will erase Skoda and Volkswagen to dust. But since we were not afraid to bring them together, we will draw conclusions and speculate about the nuances of the platforms.

Losing Sida does not mean that he is bad. It is a perfectly balanced hatchback, capable of delivering driving pleasure even with a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated engine. And it was he who - owner of the best chassis Kia has ever built (yes, not counting Stinger)... The more surprising is the chasm in terms of driving between him and the platform Cerato, who took second place only because of their practicality. Moreover, the Volkswagen concern proves that the semi-independent rear suspension has nothing to do with it. For example Golf (third place) and Octavia (first place) it's easy to see that it's all about the settings and the desire to teach the car to drive really cool. Skoda with a resilient crossbeam is better controlled than a Volkswagen with a rear multi-link, and in terms of practicality does not leave any classmate a chance.

Does this mean that the potential of the MQB is higher than the potential of the K2 platform? Is not a fact. Just Volkswagen is more careful about tuning each of its models - there is no doubt about it. It is in fine tuning, and not in the notorious "modularity", that the secret of success lies. For which you need to lay out on top 200-300 thousand rubles.

The refreshed Golf is good, but the high price tag won't allow it to compete seriously with Sid. But he can quite become a good alternative to the initial versions of the Audi A3, Mercedes A-class and BMW of the first series.

It is worth spurring the horses, and the feeling of integrity disappears: the handling is generally understandable, but without gloss and with a taste of synthetic on the steering wheel. The severity of the electric power steering can be varied (there are three Flex Steer modes - Comfort, Normal and Sport). The "comfortable" settings seemed more convenient, the sports version does not add information content. The suspension is clearly sharpened for good asphalt; on a bumpy surface with a harsh chassis, it is frankly uncomfortable. The driver in the Cerato is comfortable - there is a perfectly worked "tidy" before his eyes, among other benefits there is a steering wheel heating rare for a golf class.

In the driver's exam, the "Frenchman" of the golf class is a solid good guy. The energy-intensive and fairly long-travel suspension provides a decent ride. The car calmly swallows irregularities, confidence behind the wheel adds an impressive ground clearance. The car's reaction to rutting is somewhat annoying. Kind words deserve a 1.6 turbo engine with a capacity of 150 hp, demonstrating excellent throttle response and elasticity. The current C4 is not as original as its predecessor (remember at least the textbook fixed hub of the steering wheel), but there were some interesting solutions. For example, you can change the color and brightness of the dashboard display, including digital speedometer readings.

In driving disciplines, this is the undoubted leader. Skoda Octavia has refined habits - "transparent" steering wheel, unambiguous reactions, assembled suspensions. The brakes are also good, calibrated for the effort and pedal travel. There is enough traction in any situation. In version 1.4, a semi-dependent beam is installed at the rear (multi-link rear suspension is the prerogative of Octavia with a 1.8 TSI 180 hp engine), this constructive nuance does not greatly affect the points for handling. Driver's delights not to the detriment of the utilitarian component, it is enough to look into the gigantic luggage compartment equipped with the mind with stowage cases, nets.

On the second line is the Citroen C4 sedan with a good balance of consumer and driving qualities. For all its merits, the Kia Cerato lags behind the competition, but it has an attractive base price. With a limited budget, the Korean sedan in the available Comfort configuration seems to be a good option.

One of the features of the Automen reviews is testing the dynamics of car acceleration. He carried out this test in this test drive.

A significant part of the review is devoted to testing the driving performance of the car. A lot of trips on asphalt roads with acceleration and braking and turns, as a result of which the author shares with us his impressions of the suspension, noise insulation of the cabin and the accuracy of driving.

A very high-quality test drive that will help determine the main characteristics of the car and decide whether to sign up for a test drive of this car

Before the test, we can safely say that it will be "Three against one": 3 sedans and 1 liftback; 3 supercharged motors and 1 aspirated. Three cars with a gun and only one with mechanics. Three cars are brands from Europe and one from Asia. Three are climate controlled and one is air conditioned. Well, and, finally, three of them are Russians, and one is a Latvian.

Liftback vs sedans

It's cold in Riga, passers-by have begun to shiver and do not pay much attention to the Czech novelty. A quick glance at the Octavia makes it easy to mistake it for a sedan. In reality, this is a car with a rare - liftback. In other words, a hatchback with a tail. The new generation car has been increased in size, therefore it looks more solid. The design is now angular and more graphic. However, it is clear at once: in front of you "Skoda", and on the model of some other brand.

"Peugeot-408" has a design for an amateur. Converting a high-roof hatchback into a sophisticated sedan isn't easy. Perhaps the French failed to produce an aesthetic masterpiece. The tail of the trunk looks a little strange here. However, the Peugeot length is the most solid in this segment (over 4.7 m). People will like this car, a vehicle based on the principle “the more the better”.

But there are questions about ergonomics. For example, the front seats are rather uncomfortable. In addition, the leather on the steering wheel is too slippery, as if smeared with soap. There are about two dozen keys on the hub, among which there is even a button for heating the steering wheel. In general, the Cerato grade is at its best. Only he has keyless entry and engine start button. In addition, the vehicle is equipped with a touch screen. Although there is no particular need for it, since the informative and accurate parking sensors are pretty good. The signal from the obstacle is copied on the dashboard display, while it is visible on which side of the car the obstacle is located.

Opel Astra - the new conqueror of the roads

The level of finish with good-quality plastic and leather can also be called good enough. The Astra is perhaps the most comfortable place.

There are only three adjustments in the chairs, however, this is quite enough for complete comfort. In other words, the Astra seats can be taken as a basis for comparing with the rest. The only disadvantage that breaks the idyll is the blind, and everything else is nonsense (for example, the lack of a case for glasses). More important are adaptive headlights, a navigator, an electric handbrake, a heated steering wheel and parking sensors. The latter, by the way, showed himself as an alarmist: the obstacle is still far away, but he is already yelling.

At the front passenger's disposal there is a drawer that slides out from under the seat, which is quite practical.

When the driver enters sport mode, not only the readings change, but the instrument dials turn red.

However, in "Peugeot" and this is not. His salon is distinctive in French. Landing is significantly higher than that of competitors. The lower part of the windshield is located a meter from the driver's head, as if in. Also unusual are the large tilt of the center console with the side mirrors, which are located slightly to the middle of the door, and the odd digitization of the speedometer (10, 30, 50). You can get used to this over time, but not to the push-out profile of the backrest.

The radio control unit is behind the wheel, so using it is not entirely handy, since the buttons on the hub are much more familiar.

Octavia is equipped with a 1.4-liter engine producing 140 hp. paired with 6-speed mechanics. An excellent power unit, thanks to which you can already start from 1000 rpm. "Skoda" rushes forward in full sail, just have time. The most important thing is not to bring the tachometer needle to 5000 rpm: by this time the engine is already turning sour.

The Opelevsky engine has the same characteristics: 1.4 liters and 140 hp, but instead of mechanics - an automatic. Up to "hundreds" acceleration is quite brisk, after which the pressure decreases. I would like to spur the machine with petals, but they are not here. Gears are changed manually only by swinging the selector. In addition, in the "Astra" the mirror in the cabin is shaking, and the frame shakes when the door is opened at idle speed. You can't expect anything like that from Opel.

"Peugeot" is equipped with a 1.6-liter engine with 150 hp. However, due to the sedan's greater weight, this advantage is not felt. In addition, the French car lacks excitement - acceleration is linear, without pickup. too zealously adapts to the driving style: when, after a long calm movement, you accelerate sharply and then release the gas, the box pulls upward for another three seconds with a switch.

"Cerato" is equipped with a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated 130 hp. and significantly lags behind competitors. Not strong enough, and long pauses with switching. In other words, here the paddle shifters did not remain idle. However, "Kia" was able to overtake rivals in: for a hundred kilometers it needed 0.5 liters less fuel. Quite possibly, for some, this is a decisive argument.

Outcome

The main advantage of "Kia" is its design and rich equipment. "Opel" will be comfortable and cozy for the driver, while "Peugeot" is more spacious and adapted to Russian roads. "Octavia" was able to conquer the engine and excellent handling.

In other words, Skoda won.
