Mercedes e class generation. Mercedes-Benz E-class

Price: from 3,150,000 rubles.

Today we will discuss a new generation of a wonderful and well-known car - this is the Mercedes-Benz E-Class 2018-2019 in the back of W213. This is a new car that doesn't get too many differences from the previous version.

Appearance

The car has received a more modern design, but unfortunately it does not differ much from the previous model. A really knowledgeable car enthusiast will be able to distinguish. Since they love show-off in our country, this model most likely will not use a lot of spore, because it does not stand out and will not be able to show off.

The muzzle has a long, embossed bonnet, which is reduced to a large fully chrome grille, which also has three chrome bars. On the hood there is a corporate logo of the car on the leg. The optics here are small, the good news is that they are xenon and have LED daytime running lights. The really massive bumper received large air intakes, which are designed to cool the front brakes with air. The air intake has a chrome surround at the top.

The side of the E-Class 2019 can be called a style icon, because here, on the one hand, everything is done simply, but on the other, it looks really stylish. Slightly inflated, chamfered wheel arches, chrome window surrounds and an insert at the bottom. All this is emphasized by the aerodynamic line at the top, but it is almost invisible. The car has 17 wheels in the database, but if you wish, you can install as many as 20.

At the back, the car has a small LED optics with a beautiful structure. The trunk lid has a smooth shape, a chrome insert and its shape forms a small spoiler at the top. The massive bumper received thin reflectors, an aluminum insert in the lower part and chrome nozzles for the exhaust system.

The dimensions of the body have also been changed:

  • length - 4923 mm;
  • width - 1852 mm;
  • height - 1468 mm;
  • wheelbase - 2939 mm.

Also, those who wish can buy a car in a station wagon, and an off-road version of All-Terrain is also offered.

The new generation received a large line of power units, 6 engines are available to Russian buyers, and the entire line includes 10 engines. All motors received a turbine, they are quite powerful and relatively economical. Also, the units comply with Euro-6 standards, which means that speed lovers can change the firmware and get more power without harming reliability.

Gasoline

  1. The base engine related to the 200 version is a 2-liter engine from which 184 horses and 300 units of torque are squeezed out. Already the base model will accelerate to a hundred in 7.7 seconds, and the top speed will be 240 km / h. In terms of fuel consumption, it is small, only 8 liters of 95th gasoline in the city.
  2. The second engine of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class 2018-2019 is more powerful, although the volume is the same. The recoil of 245 horses and 370 units of torque is enough for the car to accelerate to the first hundred in 6 seconds, some charged hatchbacks show such dynamics. Fuel consumption will be slightly higher - more specifically by 1 liter.
  3. The most powerful petrol engine has a volume of 3.3 liters and belongs to the 400 4Matic version. Now it's a 333 horsepower V6. The unit, as you already understood, works together with the family 4Matic all-wheel drive system, which allows you to start up to a hundred in 5 seconds. Power is definitely reflected in consumption, approximately 11 liters are needed for a quiet city drive for every 100 kilometers.

Diesel engines Mercedes-Benz E-Class

  1. The simplest 2-liter diesel engine produces 150 horses. Low power, but if you want a quiet, economical engine, then this one is perfect for you. 8 seconds of acceleration to a hundred and some 5 liters of diesel fuel per 100 km within the city limits.
  2. If you like to save money, but want to drive a little faster, then there is another modification for you. It has the same volume, but it has 195 horsepower, with which acceleration already takes 7.3 seconds. The fuel consumption remains the same.

The final motor in the line is a hybrid. In Russia they are little preferred, but there is little demand. The two-liter unit paired with an electric motor produces 211 horsepower, allowing the sedan to accelerate to 100 km / h in 6 seconds. The engine is ideal for those who like to save fuel, in the combined cycle the consumption does not exceed 3 liters of gasoline.

The connecting link between the engines and the wheels is the 9-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission, which transfers all the torque to the rear axle. But as you already understood, there are four-wheel drive versions equipped with a proprietary all-wheel drive system.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class 2018-2019 offers different suspension brackets, there are 4 types in total. The choice depends on your driving style, Comfort conveys its essence with its name. The Comfortable Avantgarde and Sport are stiffer with 15mm less ride height. Lovers of maximum comfort are offered pneumatic suspension Air Body Control. The latter suspension adjusts the suspension stiffness to the driving style, speed and road.

Salon

The interior of the car was also changed, it became more beautiful and modern. There is a lot of free space in it; in the front, electrically adjustable leather chairs will delight you with a comfortable fit. The back row is created for three people, there is also a lot of space, also leather chairs and, in general, a beautiful design.

The center console has two connected large displays, one of which acts as a dashboard and the other is designed for multimedia and navigation. The right screen is touch-sensitive with round air deflectors located under it. Below there is a horizontally designed control unit for separate climate control. Then the console gradually moves to the tunnel, there is a large niche for little things, a multimedia control unit with a touchpad and washer, as well as cup holders and much more.

The driver's seat of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class 2018 has a stylish 3-spoke steering wheel, on which the controls for the multimedia system are duplicated. The steering wheel itself is adjustable in height and reach, and behind it is the dashboard. The tidy can be either a screen in expensive versions, or have two large arrow sensors and a large on-board computer in the middle.

The driver and passengers can enjoy luxurious music in this car on 23 speakers, which give out simply excellent sound. The volume of the trunk here is, in principle, not bad, its volume is 540 liters. In the station wagon, of course, it is larger.

The history of this popular model, which has always combined comfort, reliability and a high degree of safety, is very extensive. The first car of this series (model 170) was created in 1947 and marked the beginning of post-war production. This was followed in 1953 by the 180 and 190, better known as the "Ponton Mercedes". In the next 9 years, more than 468 thousand cars of this series, including diesel ones, were sold. Production of the W110 series began in 1961, and by February 1968 more than 628,000 vehicles had been produced. This successful series was replaced by the equally successful W114 / 115. In 1968, a sedan with an extended wheelbase and a coupe version were first seen. 1976 was followed by the W123 series. In addition, a station wagon version appeared. And finally, the debut of the W124 series, which took place in November 1984. Thus, 5 generations of cars changed, before the E-class appeared in 1995, which really surprised everyone with its fundamentally new "four-eyed" face.

Models of the early years W124 series can be distinguished from real E-class copies made not earlier than the end of 93rd by their deep niche for the rear license plate and narrow black side moldings. Of particular interest is the "one-armed, dancing" janitor. The W124 has an automatic locking differential (ASD), an anti-skid system (ASR) and, for the first time on a serial Mercedes passenger car, all-wheel drive with automatic torque distribution (4Matic). In September 1988, W124 buyers were offered an airbag as an option ... .. Four years later, both the airbag and the ABS entered the basic equipment of all Mercedes.

Sufficiently conservative (in a good way) and easy to operate, reliable, with durable engines and a spacious interior, coupled with a beautifully designed interior and ergonomics, the Mercedes-Benz W124 is practically a reference passenger car of the 1980s. There were seven interior options with tapestry or leather seats. A huge margin for adjusting the driver's seat, remotely retractable head restraints in the rear, comfortable seat belts, tightness and excellent noise insulation of the body - it is worth paying for those who value ride comfort and safety above all. The only drawback of the huge 520-liter luggage compartment - the inability to accommodate long loads inside the cabin - is compensated by good lighting, a low boot rim and practical pockets for small items and tools.

In August 1989, the W124 underwent a cosmetic touch-up. It received wide plastic door strips and underbody with chrome molding. Chrome has appeared on the bumpers and door handles. The headlights have changed. There is more space in the cabin, more comfortable seats have appeared, and valuable varieties of wood have been used more widely in the decoration. In the same year, motors with fully electronic control of power supply and ignition systems were presented for the first time on Mercedes W124.

So, as a result of another modernization of the "W124" model at the end of 1993, the first E-class appeared, which still remains a rather prestigious car. At that time, a new indexation of all "Mercedes-Benz" was introduced: instead of "200E", "220E" and so on, more modern "E200", "E220", "E280" came ... The letter in front denotes the E-class, and the following numbers - engine capacity. This is how the first E-class, which will be discussed, appeared.

The first E-class was distinguished by an almost flat rear wall of the trunk lid (very similar to the "one hundred and fortieth"), so the deep niche of the license plate gave way to a simple stamping, chrome molding and wide linings on the body sidewalls, the radiator grill "recessed" into the hood. When the E-Class went on sale, a lot of cars of the previous generation remained in the warehouses of Mercedes dealers throughout Europe, which they began to turn into the E-Class. This required, by and large, to replace only the hood with a false radiator grille and the trunk lid. European dealers carried out such an operation only with cars of 92-93 years, in which gasoline engines with four valves per cylinder have already appeared (technically, these cars do not differ from the E-class). However, in our market you can see the alleged E-class in general of the eighties! Simply, on top of everything else, modern plastic trims are installed on the sidewalls to replace the old-fashioned side moldings. Such machines produce, first of all, motors with two valves per cylinder. In the service, you can check the year of manufacture of the car by downloading its VIN number to the computer.

Mercedes cars are initially very expensive, but at the same time they are very strong and durable. E-class exists in several bodies, first of all - these are "sedans" prevailing in the market of used cars. E-class station wagons (Touring) are the best option for practical people. Having retained all the advantages of a sedan, the station wagon has advantages - a large useful interior volume, which, with the rear (middle) row of seats folded, reached 2180 liters. An additional 2-seater seat can be installed in its trunk, with which the total number of seats reaches seven. However, the main rear seat can also be folded in a 2: 1 ratio. The model retains the unique rear hydraulic suspension with automatic pumping to maintain a constant level of the rear of the body above the road. In the Mercedes program, the station wagon is designated by the letter "T" after the numbers, for example, "E280T". This is one of the most spacious station wagons in its class.

Traditionally, “personal” Mercedes-Benz models with a two-door coupe body without a B-pillar - the so-called hardtop, which, with the side windows lowered, are comparable to a cabriolet, have always been considered refined. At the same time, such a body is much more practical, and its passive safety is higher. The streamlined body, made on a shortened (85 mm) sedan chassis, turned out to be very stylish. The compartment was designated by the letter "C".

The Cabrio convertible is based on a coupe. One of the few convertibles based on a business class car. This fully-fledged four-seater car (which is a rarity among modern cars of this type) with an automatically folding top was equipped only with gasoline engines.

Mercedes E-class is one of the few cars that is offered with such a wide range of engines - from modest four cylinders to multi-liter V8 ...

The M111 series is equipped with two four-cylinder engines - "E200" with 136 hp. and "E220" - 150 hp. These engines are reliable and durable on their own, but they were equipped with various injection systems. An unsuccessful option is the so-called PMS injection. Its control unit is overly sensitive to water and salt. He is afraid of an elementary engine wash.

Further, the six-cylinder E-class series "M104" - modifications "E280" (193 hp) and "E320" (220 hp) - with typical Mercedes-Benz noiselessness and dynamism even at full load. For this, however, you have to pay with a solid fuel consumption. In the city, six-cylinder cars consume about 17 l / 100 km. The motors of the M104 series are extremely durable.

The powerful E420 of the M119 series with an eight-cylinder engine can compete on an equal footing with high-speed modern "Merci". The car is equipped with a 4.2-liter V8 with a capacity of 279 hp. This motor is perhaps the most reliable, but also quite gluttonous: with restrained driving, every hundred kilometers a twenty-liter canister of not the cheapest gasoline flies into the pipe. In a word, the car is addressed to those who really love fast driving and are able to maintain such a high-speed car.

The dream of many collectors is the legendary E500 - a reliable and incredibly fast sedan. Externally, "Supermers" are distinguished by separate headlights, bumpers of a different shape with standard front "foglights", widely swollen front and rear wheel arches and a rich interior with sports seats. The rest is a classic and noble "one hundred and twenty-fourth". This super-powerful (326 hp) model with a 5-liter M117 V8 engine from the "500th" S-class reaches 100 km / h in just 6.1 seconds. The assembly of this model was carried out on the assembly line of the Porsche company. For especially hot heads, the E60 AMG version was offered with a 6-liter V8 with 381 hp. and acceleration in 5.4 seconds. But there are very few of them even in Germany. In the tradition of Mercedes-Benz, both models were equipped with automatic transmissions only.

Diesel Mercedes E-class are also worthy of attention. The E200 Diesel version at one time attracted buyers with its low cost. It cost even less than the gasoline "E200"! However, the four-cylinder diesel is frankly noisy and gives out a noticeable vibration. The most popular because of the price / performance ratio was the 5-cylinder diesel. In operation, it is much softer and quieter. The three-liter inline six was offered in two versions: naturally aspirated (136 hp) and turbocharged (147 hp). Cars with such engines are expensive in themselves and in maintenance. The "six" works practically without the characteristic diesel rattling, extremely soft. Finally, the EZ00 Diesel and EZ00 Turbodiesel are very fast and dynamic.

In 1995, Mercedes-Benz presented E-class cars in a new body - W210 with 4 round headlights. "210" was a worthy successor of the car of the "124" series, which sold around the world in the amount of 2.7 million. The new design of the front end with, as it were, separate round headlights (in fact, they are combined into two complex headlamps) little whom it leaves indifferent. "Big-eyed Mercedes" inherited the main features of the corporate identity, which was confirmed by the unprecedented growth of European sales of the model in the next three years, such that many of its competitors in the top sector of the market (F) had to make room. The 210 series sedans remain the most successful at the upper middle class.

Like its 124 body predecessor, the E-Class is robust and reliable. The ride is impressive. The improved wheel suspension almost completely neutralizes the impact of road irregularities. For the first time on machines of this class, rack and pinion steering is used. Among the innovations are the rain sensor, the outdoor air pollution sensor, the Parktronic system. A year later, there was an "adaptive" 5-speed FRG with electronic control, allowing you to change the shift algorithm depending on the driving style.

For the E-class vehicles, more than 6,400 individual design and technical specifications are available. Additional equipment and accessories: child seats, refrigerator, comfortable ventilated seats, dynamic navigation system (DynAPS), Comand control and display system with an integrated radio and navigation system, etc.

Initially, the E-class had a fairly rich basic package, which included power accessories (windows-mirrors), height-adjustable front seats. For safety reasons, the car was equipped with a Window-Bag window airbag that unfolds in the event of a side impact in the form of a curtain between the front and rear pillars; two-stage frontal airbags; inertial seat belts; multifunction steering wheel, ABS, ESP. All this equipment was available regardless of the version and equipment of the cabin, of which there were three: Classic, Elegance and Avantgarde. The cheapest of them is considered Classic, which is distinguished by the absence of leather and minimal use of wood in the interior trim, simple rims, green tinted glass and a "low" center console - without an armrest between the front seats. But even this option is very representative. The trunk of the sedan, despite the large 520-liter volume, is also very comfortable.

Elegance cars look richer thanks to chrome on the outer door handles and bumpers. The interior of this version sports a walnut finish. The steering wheel and gear lever are covered in leather, which can also be used to trim the seats. Wheels - alloy, ten-spoke. Instead of rotating handles for ventilation, air conditioning and a "stove" on the center console, a modern microclimate control unit with a display and buttons is already used.

The most elite performance is Avantgarde. It has, so to speak, a sports bias. The interior is trimmed in dark, almost black maple and leather. Special wheel rims and the almost obligatory xenon light give a respectable appearance. In addition, in the Avantgarde version, the glasses are tinted not with the widespread green, but with blue. However, it should be borne in mind that the low sports suspension Avantgarde does not tolerate Russian roads in the best way.

Since 1997, the Brake Assist system has been installed on all E-class cars, which recognizes extreme braking and helps the driver to reduce the braking distance to a minimum. In addition, this system itself monitors malfunctions in the engine, electrical or transmission and reminds of the need to change oil or brake fluid using the "Check Engine" light on the dashboard. Even in the service book it is indicated that visits to the service station are made with a frequency of 15,000-22,000 km at the signal of this light.

Since 1997 all-wheel drive versions of the E-class - "4Matic" (transmission "4x4") have appeared in the program. This is a sophisticated transmission that combines a 5-speed "automatic" and traction control system - in case of slipping, it slows down the spinning wheel, providing better traction. This 4Matic transmission constantly smoothly redistributes the torque between the front and rear axles through the viscous couplings (during normal driving in a 33:66 ratio), and there are no interwheel and center differential locks, since they are replaced by the "smart" ETS system, which itself brakes the slipping wheel for account of the standard brake system.

For the E-class, the widest range of engines is presented, which are divided into three groups. The first includes economical gasoline and diesel engines with a working volume of 2.0-2.7 liters and an output of 115-170 hp. Cars with such engines have low fuel consumption and fully satisfy the needs of most E-class owners.

Another group includes more powerful 6-cylinder 2.8- and 3.2-liter engines, which, as a rule, work already with automatic 5-speed transmissions. These engines allow to fully reveal the full potential of the design incorporated in the E-class. More modern engines appeared in 1997. These are not in-line, but already V-shaped “sixes” with a volume of 2.4, 2.8 and 3.2 liters (170, 204 and 224 forces, respectively). The V6 is, on average, 25% lighter than the previous generation inline-sixs, they are perfectly balanced, and their operation is almost invisible to the controls. And the fuel consumption has decreased in comparison with inline counterparts - in the city it will be about 13 liters. In the E-class, such popular station wagon models were also equipped with new V-shaped 6-cylinder engines (129-279 hp).

The third includes the most prestigious V-shaped "eights" with a working volume of 4.3 and 5.4 liters. The models equipped with them, perhaps, can be attributed to representative ones. For the powerful "E420" with a 4.2-liter V8 with a capacity of 279 horsepower since 1997, the Germans have increased the engine volume by 100 "cubes", leaving the power unchanged - for the sake of increasing the already considerable torque. Average fuel consumption is about 20 l / 100 km. The tuning studio "Mercedes" in 1996 released the model "E50 AMG" on the market, and a year later in 1997 in Frankfurt a modification of the E 55 AMG was presented - the most powerful sports sedan. The main changes that were introduced to the standard E-class by AMG masters concerned the refinement of the engine, suspension and car body.

So, the E50 AMG received a forced 5-liter V8 with 347 horsepower. With such potential, the car accelerated to a hundred in 7.2 seconds, and the top speed was limited to the standard 250 km / h. The E55 AMG model had an even more impressive 5.4-liter "eight" with a capacity of 354 hp. Therefore, acceleration to a hundred takes only 5.7 seconds, and the mighty torque (530 Nm) literally throws the car forward, even from 200 km / h. Externally, AMG cars are distinguished by plastic door sills, lower bumpers, additional spoilers and special sports wheels. The sporty E-Class offers 2.5 cm less ground clearance compared to the standard model. The chic interior in two-tone leather is the hallmark of AMG creations.

And in 1998, "big-eyed" began to equip new generation diesel engines with a Common Rail power system (Mercedes with such engines are designated by the CDI index). The previously known E200CDI and E220CDI remained, but received more powerful engines of 115 and 143 hp. instead of the previous 102 and 125 hp

From 1995 to 1999 more than 1 million W210 cars were produced, most of which are operated in Europe. No wonder this model was and remains one of the business class standards. In the summer of 1999, "big-eyed" underwent modernization, more than 1800 various changes were made to the design. New engines, transmissions appeared, equipment changed. The most extensive program of E-class models, by the beginning of 2000 included 27 basic configurations. The external difference between "new" cars from "old" is the shape of a lower front end with an integrated bumper, the edge of which reaches the middle of the headlights. Such a car is easily recognizable by the direction indicators implanted in the outside mirrors, while the early version of the "flashers" are located on the front fenders. Among the features of the E-class station wagon is a very spacious luggage compartment, the volume of which, with the rear seat folded down, reaches 1.97 m3. The ESP electronic stability control system is installed as standard equipment on the E-class Mercedes. On the all-wheel drive versions of 4Matic, it is no longer the traditional differential locking system that is used, but an imitation of locking by braking the slipping wheels with the help of ABS.

Since 2000, the models have been equipped with 270 CDI and 320 CDI engines. All-wheel drive E430 4 Matic has appeared in the program, the front wheels of which are connected, however, only when the rear wheels slip. The most powerful sports sedan E55 AMG 4 Matic and the E55T AMG 4 Matic station wagon are distinguished by their special design and excellent speed characteristics. At the end of 2001, the E400 CDI model appeared with the latest 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 diesel engine producing 250 hp.

In November 2001, production of the W210 ceased. Station wagon modifications were assembled until early 2003. The exact number of cars produced with a body W210 is 1350128. This is about 24% of the number of passenger cars produced from 1995 to 2001. A significant event in November 2001 was the achievement of 10 million sales of E-Class vehicles in their entire history.

In January 2002, the premiere of the new E-class sedan (body type W211) took place. The car "added" a little more in size, and its appearance has acquired a more impetuous appearance - a magnificent sculptural form made of glass and steel. The highest level of comfort for both driver and passengers corresponds to the same level of active and passive safety.

Externally, the car retained the style of its predecessor: the same separate round headlights at the front, only now they consist of several lamps hidden under one cap. The rear of the new E-class is made in the style of the executive sedan Mercedes S-class. The interior of the car is now significantly more spacious thanks to the increased wheelbase, as well as the newly developed interior. Informative devices in the form of liquid crystal columns will provide only the most necessary and up-to-date information, and the sound of a running engine and the noise of city streets will not disturb you due to the almost perfect noise isolation.

Initially, the creators not only provided the E-class cars with a rich package, but also equipped them with the most innovative technology. The semi-active air suspension Airmatic Dual Control, which is standard on the E 500 model, has been developed especially for the E-Class. It allows the car to "ignore" irregularities and hover over the road.

The Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC) brake system takes care of the safety of passengers: it automatically dries the brake discs on a wet road and, thanks to its advantages, optimizes the functions of the other safety systems ESP, ASR, ABS and BAS. The computer calculates the required braking force and distributes it to the wheels in a targeted manner. In addition to technical refinements, optional multicontour seats are available with dynamic multicontour. If necessary, he can massage the back and legs. Eight airbags can be noted (two front, four side for front and rear passengers, two side top inflatable "curtains"), as well as automatic opening and closing of the trunk. A new cruise control system and a proprietary COMAND entertainment system will be installed as optional equipment.

A whole range of modern motors is provided for the novelty. To begin with, they will offer proven gasoline and diesel engines with a working volume of 2.2-5.0 liters in a power range of 150-306 hp. 177 hp 2.4-liter engine and 3.2-liter 224 horsepower. Later, a five-liter V8 with a capacity of 306 "horses" from the Mercedes S-Class was added to this series. Diesel engines: 220 CDI with 150 horsepower and 270 CDI with 177 horsepower. This set was supplemented with a 197-horsepower 320 CDI engine, and since March 2003, a four-liter V8 with 260 horsepower. All models (except for E320 and E500) are equipped with either a mechanical 6-speed gearbox or a hydromechanical adaptive 5-speed "automatic".

Now the E-class has received three new engines at once - gasoline and two diesel. Two of these new powertrains can be called "budget" because they are more economical. The first of the new engines is a 1.8-liter gasoline engine, which is increased to 163 hp thanks to the use of a mechanical supercharger. The maximum torque of this motor of 240 Nm is achieved in the range from 3,000 to 4,000 rpm. The Mercedes E 200 Kompressor consumes 8.4 liters of fuel per hundred kilometers and has a top speed of 230 km / h.

Another novelty is a four-cylinder turbodiesel engine with direct fuel injection system. The 122-horsepower two-liter engine has a top speed of 203 km / h. At the same time, the new engine is very economical - the average fuel consumption is 6.3 liters.

And the third novelty was another diesel engine with a volume of 3.2 liters. Its power has been increased to 204 hp. The E-Class with such a motor accelerates to 100 km / h in 7.7 seconds, and its top speed is 243 km / h.

The apotheosis of the engine program is the E 55 AMG, which accelerates to 100 km / h in 4.7 seconds. The "charged" E-Class sedan, which has been worked on by the specialists of the tuning studio AMG, has a 5.5-liter V8 engine with a capacity of 476 horsepower, and its top speed is limited at around 250 kilometers per hour. E 55 AMG as standard! equipped with a novelty of world technical thought - semi-active air suspension AIRMATIC Dual Control. The vehicle's ground clearance is electronically controlled. When cornering at high speeds, the system automatically "tightens" the suspension, reducing the amplitude of lateral and longitudinal body swing.

In the fall of 2002, the Mercedes E-Class received the 4Matic all-wheel drive system. For now, only buyers of the petrol versions of the E-Class will be able to order the 4Matic system, namely the E240 with a 177-horsepower engine, the E320 with a 224-horsepower engine and the E500 with a 306-horsepower engine. All four-wheel drive versions of the Mercedes E-Class are 10 millimeters taller than base models due to the higher position of the body above the road.

The latest generation Mercedes E-Class lineup may soon be replenished with several new modifications. Since 2003, buyers have been able to purchase a station wagon based on the Mercedes E-Class. Its all-wheel drive version is already available. And not so long ago, the AMG version of the Mercedes-Benz E-class station wagon - the E 55 AMG with a turbocharged V8 engine - was released, which made it the most powerful station wagon in the world. The car accelerates to 100 km / h in just 4.8 seconds, while its predecessor took 5.9 seconds. Its maximum speed is limited to 250 km / h.

The next in the lineup of the E-Class should appear a limousine - a version of the sedan extended by 50 centimeters. This car will receive luxurious equipment and will be designed for those who want to have an executive car, but are not yet ready to pay a significant amount for a similar version of the Mercedes S-Class.

Finally, the latest addition to the Mercedes E-Class lineup will be the four-door coupe. This car will appear in 2005 and will receive a slightly different body design.

In 2006 at the New York International Auto Show, the world premiere of the updated Mercedes-Benz E-Class took place, which sets new standards and sets new benchmarks. In the course of the next modernization, the car got new engines, a sports suspension and additional safety equipment. Although, by and large, there are not so many changes in appearance, the designers have refreshed the look of the model quite well. Among the new in appearance is the changed shape of the bumpers, radiator grille, side skirts and rear-view mirrors.

Inside the cabin there is a stylish four-spoke steering wheel and a redesigned climate control dashboard that is now part of the base equipment package. In total, buyers were offered 29 model options - 16 modifications of the sedan and 13 of the station wagon.

The standard equipment of the updated Mercedes E-Class includes the Pre Safe safety system, which debuted on the S-Class in 2002. As soon as the sensors installed on the vehicle “suspect” a collision, the seat backs and head restraints are automatically positioned and the seat belt pretensioners are activated. Neck Pro headrests with touch sensors protect the head of the driver and front passenger. Flashing brake lights are standard on the updated E-Class. The driver of the next car responds to the blinking 0.2 s faster than a steady light. Plus the innovative Intelligent Light System. Headlights now automatically change the intensity and direction of the light beam depending on the speed. For the most active drivers, the Direct control package is intended, with sharper steering and a stiffer suspension. In all, almost 2,000 parts in the car have been redesigned or modernized.

The updated E-Class comes with ten different engines, six of which have undergone significant upgrades. The diesel range consists of the E 200 CDI, E 220 CDI and E 320 CDI, and starting in the fall of 2006, the E 320 BLUETEC - the cleanest diesel engine in the world, according to the company, has been installed on cars supplied to the USA. BLUETEC, in addition, consumes 20-40% less fuel than gasoline engines of the same power. The smallest version, the E 200 Kompressor, was bumped up to 184bhp, while the top model got the 388bhp 5.5-liter V8 previously found in the S-Class. The E 500 accelerates to 100 km / h in just 5.3 seconds.

The "charged" version from the AMG studio received a naturally-aspirated V8 with 514 hp, which is 38 horses more than the predecessor E 55 AMG.

The fourth generation of the E-class W212 was shown in early January 2009 at the Detroit Auto Show. The elegant, sophisticated look of its predecessor, created six years ago under the direction of former chief designer Peter Pfeiffer, is gone. The car has retained its "four-eyes", but the headlights are now not oval (as it was in previous generations), but diamond-shaped. Sharp edges, as new chief designer Gordon Wagener emphasizes, is a reminder of the Fifties Mercedes W120 / 121, nicknamed the Ponton, the predecessor to the E-class.

The Mercedes E-class car traditionally sets the standards for competitors in its class. Every detail, from interior materials to numerous safety systems, speaks of the high status of the car. The sedan has grown significantly in terms of basic parameters. The length increased by 14 mm (up to 4868 mm), the wheelbase was extended by 20 mm (up to 2874), the width increased by 32 mm (up to 1854 mm), and the height decreased by 13 mm (up to 1470).

The station wagon premiered at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. In comparison with its predecessor, the new station wagon is 50 millimeters longer, and the volume of the luggage compartment with the second row seats folded will remain the same - 1950 liters. In addition, the tailgate and a soft curtain that hides the contents of the compartment from prying eyes, in all versions, including the base one, will receive a servo drive.

The coupe and convertible have reappeared in the 212 E-class family. The E-Class Coupe (body code C207) was unveiled at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show. This is the second coupe in the E-class family after the W124 bodywork. The basic E 220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY is the most streamlined production coupé in the world with a Cx of just 0.24. The coupe is assembled at the plant in Bremen.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class convertible (body code A207) was unveiled to the public at the 2010 North American International Auto Show. This is the second convertible in the E-class family after the W124 bodywork. The convertible is equipped with a fabric soft folding roof, which can be folded or opened in 20 seconds, and this can be done either using the roof control button from the passenger compartment, or a button on the key. The roof mechanism is ordered from Karmann. According to Mercedes-Benz, the roof is designed for 20,000 folding cycles. The convertible is equipped with AirScarf and AirCap systems. AirScarf - Brings warm air to the necks of the driver and front passenger. And when AirCap is activated, a spoiler extends from the upper windshield frame and a windscreen behind the rear head restraints, which deflects the air flow when the vehicle is moving, which makes the interior quiet and calm.

At the 2010 Beijing Auto Show, a 14 cm version of the sedan was unveiled. The car will receive the index "L", its length is 5012 mm, and the wheelbase is 3014 mm.

The salon is designed in the spirit of the C-class and GLK: the same angular center console, also the architectural solution of the dashboard. The interior decoration uses expensive leather on the armchairs, metal fittings, high-quality plastic and even light guides that are invisible to the eye, pouring an amber glow from under the door trim and dashboard. The standard version of the seats, with their textured soft padding, ensures a high level of comfort on long journeys and optimum lateral support, even with a very sporty driving style. Dynamic multicontour seats are available as an option for the driver and front passenger. Their separately adjustable air chambers allow the seat contour to be optimally adapted to the individual seated figure. The side support lugs are automatically and dynamically adjusted according to the vehicle's driving behavior. Seat cushion depth, side bolsters and lumbar support are pneumatically adjustable. Additional comfort will be provided by the function of the dynamic massage of seven zones and the head restraints of superior comfort.

The rear of the passenger compartment is spacious, which is especially noticeable with the separate luxury seats, which are offered as optional equipment. In addition, these seats are equipped with heated and luxury head restraints. For passengers in the second row, there are also sun visors on the rear doors and a center armrest with two integrated drink holders.

Interestingly, if in cars with four-cylinder engines the levers of the five-speed "automatic" and the manual transmission are located on the central tunnel, then the more expensive versions with "sixes" and seven-speed "automatic" 7G-Tronic have a selector lever on the steering column.

Standard equipment includes the ATTENTION ASSIST driver fatigue recognition system, which detects the appearance of signs of fatigue by the driver according to his driving style and starts giving warning signals. In general, Mercedes-Benz E-class 2009 went to the start with a number of innovative solutions: full automatic braking in the event of a direct threat of collision, adaptive headlight control system. The standard equipment of the Mercedes E 212 includes an electronic safety system (ESP) and airbags. The body, with a 30% increase in rigidity by 75%, consists of high-strength steels.

The range of powertrains is impressive: there are five diesel versions alone: \u200b\u200bE 200 CDI, 220 CDI, 250 CDI, 350 CDI and 350 Bluetec. The first three diesel versions are equipped with the same four-cylinder engine with twin sequential turbocharging, but in three boost options: 136 hp, 170 and 204. Modifications of the E 350 CDI and E 350 Bluetec also differ in recoil: the less environmentally friendly version of the CDI is more powerful - 231 power against 211. Five more petrol: E 200 CGI, 250 CGI, 350 CGI, E 350 4MATIC and E 500. Two unpopular V6 2.5 and 3.0 engines, and with them the E230 and E280 versions, disappeared from the range.

The front McPherson struts and the rear "multi-link" are adapted for the use of shock absorbers with variable resistance: either "passive", with amplitude-dependent characteristics, or electronically controlled. Moreover, the latter on the E-class for the first time work in tandem with air suspension: it is standardly installed on the version with a V8 engine and, for an additional charge, on six-cylinder cars.

The highest security measures, reliability, jewelry handling and dynamics are the integral qualities of a real car, which is the Mercedes-Benz E-class.

In January 2013, the updated Mercedes-Benz E-class family was presented at the Detroit Auto Show. After restyling, the car received a number of fundamentally new stylistic solutions. The main one is that the four-section headlights characteristic of the E-class are a thing of the past, now the head optics are single headlights. By the way, full LED headlights are on the list of options. The front end changes are not limited to the new headlights. The Germans also redesigned the bonnet and front bumper. The rear of the modernized car looks more elongated and elegant due to the modified rear fenders and LED lights of the new shape. The sportier versions of the E-Class will get a larger grille-mounted badge, while the base models come with the classic "sight" on the hood. The body color is offered in 2 non-metallic enamels, namely "Calcite and Black", as well as 10 metallics.

There are not so many changes in the interior, but they are quite noticeable. Restyled versions received a new design dashboard, on which there are three dials, in the central dial there is an on-board computer screen. The center console was designed differently, on which a stylish analog clock now flaunts. Among the interior innovations, it is also worth noting the multifunctional steering wheel, which can be 2, 3 or 4-spoke, depending on the preferences of the buyer. In addition, an analog clock appeared in the salon. The highest quality and most expensive materials are offered for interior decoration, including aluminum and real wood. The trunk volume is about 540 liters, when the second row is folded, the volume increases to 1 220 liters.

The line of power units, as before, is represented by gasoline, diesel and hybrid engines. The base gasoline engine was assigned to an 184-horsepower 2-liter unit for the E200 version. The line of diesels starts with a 2.1-liter 136 hp engine. for E200 CDI. The novelty will be the E400 version, which will receive a turbocharged gasoline V6 with 333 horsepower. But this engine will join the range of power units only in the fall of 2013. The E500 with a 408-horsepower V8 will remain the flagship. All engines meet high environmental standards and display a modest appetite. A pair of motors to choose from can be a manual six-speed gearbox or "automatic" 7G-TRONIC PLUS for seven positions.

The rich equipment of the car with electronic assistants deserves special attention. Electronic assistants, which are endowed with the updated E-class, are linked into a single solution, called Intelligent Drive. One of the main suppliers of information for electronics will be a stereo camera located in the area of \u200b\u200bthe interior mirror, which is able to track what is happening at a distance of 500 m.Based on this data and on the readings of additional radars, systems for active cruise control, tracking compliance with markings and preservation its lane, a pedestrian tracking system that can initiate preventive braking to avoid a collision, and a rear collision insurance system. In addition, the family will receive adaptive headlights, an active parking aid, an all-round camera and a road sign tracking system.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a model that combines technology with high aesthetics. A car of this level is designed for connoisseurs of beauty and luxury, dynamics and drive.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class has undergone significant external changes. In particular, the smooth lines of the body have become more dynamic. The front overhang has taken on a new look, retaining the classic radiator grille and receiving an updated wing-shaped bumper. All this gives the car a somewhat sporty look.

The interior of the E-Class has also been redesigned and expanded. The dashboard is made in a traditional style and decorated with aluminum. The special status of the car is emphasized by watches of exclusive design. The on-board computer display is fitted flush with the bezel-less bezel seen in previous models, giving the console a dynamic and modern look.

The technical characteristics of the Mercedes-Benz E-Klasse have been improved. For example, the new product is equipped with the COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST system, which prevents collisions, and the ATTENTION ASSIST system, which monitors the level of driver fatigue. The efficiency of the 2019 E-Class has been significantly improved by the introduction of BlueEFFICIENCY technology, which maximizes engine life with low fuel consumption.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is sold at the MB-Belyaevo showroom in Moscow. We are ready to offer favorable terms of the contract, as well as vehicles of various configurations depending on your needs.

The good must be replaced with the best, especially if it is one of the Mercedes-Benz models. And even the quite successful E-class W 211, which defended the brand's honor in the upper-middle segment, became obsolete over time, and in 2009 the company released a new "Yeshka". No one was surprised that she became larger and more comfortable - the design concept shocked, first of all. Moving away from biodesign in favor of chopped forms a la W 124 - not everyone was ready for this turn of events.

The predecessor of our today's hero, Mercedes in the 211st body, received the main criticism for the clearly reduced workmanship, increased number of failures and low resource of a number of nodes. Many fans of the brand attributed this fact to the unsuccessful merger with Chrysler and the technological templates they introduced.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 250 CDI (W212) "2009-12

In particular, the SBC system, which was installed before the restyling of the model, the quality of the engines, the quality of the gearboxes after the restyling and the quality of the body painting, were ostracized. The criticism, it would seem, was taken very carefully, but the new Mercedes inherited both engines and gearboxes from its ancestor, albeit in slightly modernized versions.

However, the model had enough advantages. First of all, comfort has improved due to the use of a new active suspension, improved aerodynamics and a new mechatronic cabin. In addition, the passport and, most importantly, the real fuel consumption due to the transition mainly to engines with direct fuel injection, a seven-speed automatic transmission, and also reduced aerodynamic drag. They took special care of safety: among the options there was a night vision system, a radar for the emergency braking system and cruise control, a blind spot monitoring system, "smart" airbags, and lateral support adjustments. Well, the body, of course, has become even stronger.

The restyling of 2013 was remembered by many precisely for the fact that they simply will not rise to call it a facelift. The exterior was redrawn very thoroughly: the car received new head optics, and with the help of small touches, the exterior was transformed incredibly - from a rough and faceted shell, the car turned into an example of an elegant style with an admixture of high-tech. The salon has also been ennobled: it has more color and smooth lines, and, moreover, they abandoned the gloomy gray plastic and massive steering wheel.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 250 (W212) "2013 – present.

We also worked with the technology thoroughly - the line of gasoline engines was replaced with a new one in 2011, removing the rather outdated and frankly unsuccessful motors of the M271 and M272 series. After restyling, the five-speed gearboxes of the 722.6 series were almost completely replaced by the seven-speed 722.9, and in 2014 the newest "nine-stage" was installed on the E350 BlueTech. LEDs settled in optics, but the night vision system was removed from the range of options. In this form, the model was produced until 2016, when it was replaced by a completely new car in the back of the W 213, which became much more interactive, economical and, perhaps, even more comfortable.

As for the reliability, there was no obvious decrease in the number of failures, and the cost of operation even increased, despite the age of children, in general. I propose to understand this situation in a little more detail.

Body and interior

The oldest cars are now approaching the age of seven. It is still too early to talk about any punctures in the anti-corrosion protection, the cars are well painted, and traces of corrosion can be found only with a very careful examination. The minimal breakdown of the joint sealant on the sill and trunk panels with barely visible rust marks is undoubtedly a bad sign. Such defects are encountered regularly, but so far they do not cause any particular problems. And most often they are associated with "shock loads" - first of all, operation in hot summers, salty winters, diagonal distortions and races on dead roads.

Obvious corrosion at the joints or at the edges of arches and thresholds is very rare, unless, of course, the car has been in a serious accident with the replacement of panels with non-original ones or serious work on straightening damaged elements. By and large, if you notice corrosion, then you don't have to look at the car any further: these are consequences or accidents, or very tough operation, all other problems do not manifest themselves at such a childhood age.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 350 4MATIC (W212) "2013 – present.

Well, if you are looking far into the future, then look for a car with a flawlessly intact joint sealant and apply an additional layer of anticorrosive on the bottom - the protection looks weak, despite the large amount of plastic, and the internal cavities need protection, the experience of past generations of the E-class says that it is better to do it right away.

It is also recommended to clean the "aquarium" - a niche under the windshield. The drains are small and quickly become contaminated with the remnants of leaves - the body is usually not in danger from this, but there will be many electrical problems, and it will spill into the cabin. Rubber seals dry out after three to five years, and the interior flooring will get wet further.

The radiator brackets and various small things under the hood will tell a lot about the operating conditions. On cars that spend the night in a damp underground garage or in a snowdrift on the street, light corrosion will be on many nodes and fasteners of the "engine compartment" - this is a feature of many fresh and expensive cars.

A large number of plastic parts on the bottom and their price can play a cruel joke. Even if the metal of the body is flawless, it can take a lot of money to bring the car to perfect condition. The aerodynamic panels of the engine compartment, wheel arch liners (there was a revocable campaign on the front ones) and in general all the lower plastic, including the pads of the suspension arms, are easily damaged. If the M271 series motor, the most common on these cars, is installed, and an oil cup is leaking, then the plastic of the engine compartment is most likely in very poor condition even on 2012-2013 cars.

Peeling chrome, door handles and windshield wipers' leashes are the trouble of cars from Moscow and St. Petersburg, road chemicals quickly kill all decorative coatings.

On a car with a panoramic sunroof, the guides are at risk, they get dirty and squeak. If you do not pay attention to this, you can burn the drive motor or break the rollers and levers of the system. And the very first rain will increase the number of problems at times. The drainage at the panoramic sunroof, by the way, clogs up much faster than the simple one. It is worth blowing every year and this must be done very carefully - the tubes are attached, how to put it mildly, very weakly, they easily fly off when exposed to compressed air, after which you will have to remove the entire hatch mechanism and put the tubes on the clamps.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG (W212) "2013 – present

Optics before restyling, both the front and the rear, quickly lose their tightness and sweat. And also blocks of ignition of xenon headlights and control units also gain moisture. In general, when driving through puddles and washing the engine compartment, you need to be very careful, it is better to use special cleaners for this, not water. There are enough electronic blocks here.

After restyling, the optics have become better, in any case, the headlights are not prone to fogging, but the beautiful "check marks" of the LED lights can go out. Their repair has already been mastered, but most of the services will offer to replace the entire headlight. Cars with LED dipped beam have another problem: "eternal" LEDs actually last only a couple of years, they usually lose their luminosity in summer, in traffic jams. It is strongly recommended to use only DRLs in such conditions, and not to others.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 250 CDI AU-spec (W212) "2013 – present.

Rear LED lights not only dazzle those standing behind in a traffic jam, but also suffer from the gradual failure of LEDs - the reason is usually in the oxidation of the board and the lamp leaks. Officially, it is not collapsible, but the Dremel works wonders, often it is enough to just put the power connector inside, and see the price of the new headlight for yourself ...

The loss of the washer caps and the breakdown of the nozzles themselves is another flaw, the caps can be considered a consumable, and if you put the Chinese ones, then several pieces may "go away" a month. If the mirrors creak when folding, then carefully inspect the mounting brackets: a crust of oxides on aluminum will hint that it is advisable to inspect the body for corrosion once more.

The interior of the cars is full of various servos and electronics. There is wiring everywhere, control modules for everything in the world, and everything is very carefully and complexly assembled. Cars before restyling generally look gloomier, but the quality of interior materials in basic trim levels, oddly enough, is better than that of restyling, and expensive leather is not always more durable than cheap leatherette of inexpensive versions.

But with runs for "a hundred", both leatherette and leather surrender - the driver's seat begins to be covered with a network of cracks. In general, the quality of the interior is very high: a few unsuccessful elements like the automatic transmission shift paddles, steering wheel buttons and seat control buttons only emphasize how carefully the rest of the details are made. Of the serious disadvantages, only thermal sensitivity can be noted - at low temperatures, the interior begins to thunder, especially on restyled models, and the suspension echoes it. Again, cars after 2013 release are reported to have slightly worse soundproofing, but perhaps it's just the noisier engines of the new generation create a similar effect.

The Command multimedia system fails relatively rarely. Most often, failures are associated with the rear camera module, it is connected directly to the "head" of the device and with a CD changer. A few more problems are caused by non-standard firmware with Russification and new navigation for cars from Europe, such software often works unstable.

Too many problems for a relatively fresh car? But pay attention, they are exploiting "E-shki" for slaughter. They work both with corporate cars and personal cars for those who drive themselves and do not consider it an expensive limousine.

Electronics and electrical

Apart from the complexity of the problems, the minimum. It doesn't break very often, but if it breaks ... If you don't light a cigarette, don't discharge the batteries, and monitor the generator's health, then all the complex electronic stuffing works stably. Of the serious troubles, we can only recall the piezo injectors and the OM651 motor control unit, this is a 2.2 diesel. The injectors were dying, the unit was changed along with them, but a newer version of the control unit sometimes loses power to the injectors. In general, electronics from Delphi have shown themselves not in the best way. After the warranty period, all this changes extremely reluctantly, check when buying.

Electronic components in the engine compartment often suffer from leaks, especially the ignition and headlight control units. The keyless entry system is sensitive to strong interference, failures happen too often, and besides, it can simply discharge the battery in just a day or two, giving false positives. Otherwise, you just need to remember that all servos, displays and touch panels have a limited resource, and besides, these things are quite fragile. And the performance of Mercedes is also expensive. There are very few machines that, when diagnosed, show a complete absence of errors and failures in the operation of executive devices.

Brakes, Suspensions and Steering

The braking system is fully consistent with the brand's standards: high quality of all components and excellent performance. The small resource of discs and pads is a little alarming, but this is a consequence of the active work of stabilization systems, drying of brake discs, and the weight of the car is rather big, under two tons.

Suspensions on the W 212 are famous for their comfort and good mileage; up to a mileage of 70-100 thousand kilometers, they can withstand almost everything, even with 18-inch disks. The secret is that the front is now not a double lever, but an ordinary MacPherson, it is simpler and more reliable. The rear suspension was seriously reworked, and it better withstands a lot of new cars - the old versions of the multi-link were structurally little different from the suspension of cars in the back of the W 201 thirty years ago. Here are just electronically controlled shock absorbers here in the stock configuration, which significantly increases costs in case of wear or serious damage, and the electronics have a finite resource.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 220 CDI (W212) "2009-12
The air suspension has become noticeably stronger, once again improved protection from road dirt, pipelines and electronics, including all sensors, have become more reliable. The resource of "pneuma" is stable for more than 150 thousand kilometers, but it should rather be measured in years, because the wear of the elements is largely related to the age of the cylinders.

In the photo: Mercedes-Benz E 350 4MATIC (W212) "2009-12

The electric power steering does not cause problems, it was installed on cars with gasoline engines of the M274, M276 series and some diesel ones. But the pump of a conventional power steering on the M272 and M271 does not differ in resource, the high load on the unit when using wide rubber affects. The resource of the rack, steering rods and tips is quite large - the tips and rods need to be checked and changed closer to one hundred thousand kilometers, and the rack usually does not need to be replaced with a small backlash even with runs over three hundred thousand kilometers. Malfunctions of the Servotronic system (Mercedes calls this "parametric steering", surprisingly, extremely rare.

Transmission

The mechanical boxes and the transmission itself are extremely reliable, fortunately they have been worked out over the years. And even the all-wheel drive transmission is distinguished by its resource and reliability. Is that the elements of the front gearbox and front axle drive can fail with runs up to hundreds of thousands of kilometers. The transfer case is at risk only on all-wheel drive vehicles with a top-end three-liter diesel engine and on AMG versions.

With automatic transmissions, everything is a little more complicated. Until 2011, most of the four-cylinder cars were equipped with an old and very reliable five-speed gearbox of the 722.6 series, which had long been debugged and improved. By the way, the latest firmware for this unit dates back to 2014, with them the wear of the linings of the gas turbine engine slightly decreases due to the less active work of blocking on the "cold" one and increasing the margin of "adaptability". By modern standards, it is a very reliable unit, with a resource of mechanics and valve body of about 250-300 thousand kilometers, without "children's problems". With the timely replacement of the blocking lining of the gas turbine engine with runs of 150-200 thousand kilometers and frequent oil changes, it does not cause much trouble until the moment of wear of the main clutches, bushings and planetary gears. On E200 versions, this automatic transmission can be found up to 2013.

The automatic transmission of the 722.9 series, aka 7G -tronic, which has been installed on six-cylinder versions of cars since 2009 and on other cars since 2011, cannot boast of such sophistication and trouble-free operation. The main difficulties were eliminated even on the restyled W 211, but the W 212 also had a lot of problems. And the first variants of 7Gtronic +, optimized for "start-stop" modes, also added failures. Valve body failures, wiring and overheating still haunt the boxes. And, perhaps, this automatic transmission is one of the most serious shortcomings of post-styling cars.

However, it certainly has its advantages: the fuel consumption of cars with a seven-speed automatic transmission is surprisingly low - in combination with petrol "fours" the average can be less than eight liters, and with diesel OM651 - even less than six liters. It is highly recommended to change the oil every 30-40 thousand kilometers and install an external automatic transmission radiator, as well as remove the box thermostat.

Since 2014, the 9G -tronic nine-speed automatic transmission has also been installed on BlueTech diesel models. Again many "children's problems" were revealed, but at the moment they are eliminated under warranty, and there are almost no problems with overheating on diesel engines. With such an automatic transmission, fuel consumption is still slightly reduced. In "route" modes, diesel consumption drops below three liters per hundred, and this is for a two-ton car.

Engines

Pre-styling motors are basically the "hit" of recent years in the face of the 1.8-liter M271 Evo engine with a compressor, as well as the M272 series engines. By the time the W 212 was launched, most of the engine problems had been eliminated, although the M271 still has a low resource of the timing chain and sprockets, and the M272 still periodically wears out the intake manifold and lifts the cylinders.

All motors of this generation too often suffer from oil leaks: an unsuccessful filter "glass" flows on the M271, and a heat exchanger on the M272. Take a look at the list of problems with these motors: in fact, the difficulties are the same, but the age of the machines is less. But given a well-tuned design, serious problems arise only if all warnings are persistently ignored.

Under the hood Mercedes-Benz E 200 NGT (W212) "2011–12

The main trouble with the M272 - the small resource of the timing chain - retreated. Motors of later years of production have a resource of this unit on average about 200 thousand kilometers, and besides, the chain rarely jumps right away. On the M271, the chain must be monitored in both directions, it often stretches and jumps at runs less than 100 thousand kilometers, but again, it warns of wear with specific noise in advance. Since runs over 200 thousand kilometers are still not so common, there are few complaints about these engines, and they are mainly related to the M271. M273 series motors are much less common, but in fact do not differ from M272 in operation, except that cylinder scuffs can be found on them much more often.

There are a lot of diesel engines of the OM651 series in various versions for forcing and powering. Until 2011, the units were supplied with piezo injectors, which were prone to leaks and malfunctions. This often led to water hammer and piston burnout. Only the younger version of the motor, which was equipped with conventional nozzles, escaped the problem. As part of the revocable campaign, the injectors on all engines after 2011 were changed to electromagnetic ones, and the injection control unit was also changed.

Timing chain cost

Price for original:

10 499 rubles

The design of the engine is quite complex, it has many points requiring attention, but the workmanship is very good, and in most cases, failures occur due to the fault of the fuel equipment, intake manifold flaps, thermostat, EGR valve, particulate filter and sensors.

A turbine usually dies by a run of 200-250 thousand kilometers. At about the same mileage, you need to replace the timing mechanism. Another unpleasant feature of the motor is the tendency to "sticking" injectors. Specialized services usually know how to cope with this scourge, but the owners still recommend preventive removal and cleaning at least once a year. Little things like overrunning clutch and APC valve failures are almost never found on cars with low mileage.

Diesel V 6 series OM642 are considered one of the most reliable Mercedes-Benz in recent years. Very resourceful, with very reliable fuel equipment - it is deservedly appreciated by those who want power and stability of work. The problems are mostly clean and nothing more.

After 2011, new motors began to appear on cars. There are significantly fewer reviews for them, but a number of patterns can be distinguished.

The engines of the M276 series that replaced the M272 have no problems with the piston group and with the collectors, but there was already a revocable campaign on the timing belt - they changed the dampers and hydraulic chain tensioners, and at low mileage the chains jumped. Motors 276.8 with a serial number up to 276.8xx 30 001280 and 276.9 with a serial number up to 276.9xx 30 406602 were recalled. In addition, the oil pump pressure is too low, and there are often cases of damage to the liners and the crankshaft. Piezo injectors on these motors do not show themselves very well, but so far they are being changed as part of warranty repairs.

Inline fours of the M274 series received an aluminum block, a delicate piston group and turbocharging. On the E-class, only a 2.0-liter version was installed in two degrees of boost. The motor has shown itself well so far, but there are cases of piston group scuffing, the motor does not tolerate the slightest overheating very well, and besides, it is sometimes prone to oil consumption at a very young age.

What should you choose?

The cost of operating premium business cars has risen significantly over the past decade, and it takes some getting used to. You wanted a flow like Solaris and dynamics like a 911? Get it, but you still have to pay - not for fuel, but for repairs and maintenance. Now these cars are mostly pleasing to their owners. They are solidly made, but they have enough nodes with a limited service life and outright "pitfalls" like the chains on the M271 and the 7G -tronic automatic transmission. All of them can cause a lot of trouble even for the most diligent car owners, subject to the "factory" maintenance intervals.

With a diesel engine, the E-class can even claim to be a very economical car to operate, especially if your runs are long and the roads are flat. Comfort and safety are undoubtedly among the best features of the model, here it is head and shoulders above any new car that can be purchased for comparable amounts, and believe me, no "strong" "Japanese" can compare with it.

But the costs will definitely be - small at first, big later, and how much of them will go to your wallet is difficult to predict.

Would you buy yourself the penultimate E-class?

1947 Mercedes 170 V

After the end of World War II in 1945, the Mercedes company had not yet thought about developing its new car models. Therefore, after the end of the war, a pre-war model of the Mercedes 170 V car was sent to the conveyor. In 1947, 400 such cars were produced.

Despite the modesty of the car, this model 170 V was in those years, despite even the spartan look of its interior.

1949 Mercedes 170 S Cabriolet A

In 1949, based on the 170 S, it presented to the public a two-door convertible with lots of chrome trim. But this car was not very popular at that time, as it cost insanely expensive for that money, about 16 thousand German marks.

1953 Mercedes 180

In 1953, the Mercedes automobile company made a leap into modernity, released the Mercedes 180 model with a self-supporting body. As a result, thanks to new technologies, the car received a modern one. The body shape of the car was called simply "Ponton".

Model 170 vs. Model 180

Here is a direct comparison of two generations of Mercedes cars. Center: Model 170 V. Left: Model 180, which was launched in 1953. This picture clearly shows what a huge step forward the Mercedes company made when it introduced the Mercedes 180 car model to its own and further to the world market. It is worth noting that both cars, after the appearance of the 180th car model, were produced for several years on the same plant in parallel.

1956 Mercedes-190

The success of modern design was not long in coming. In the photo you can see the full car park of Mercedes cars. This parking lot is intended for sending cars to customers. Initially, the Mercedes of the 180th model was equipped with a 52-horsepower 1.8-liter engine. A little later, in 1956, this car additionally received its new 1.9 liter engine with 75 hp. So the first and well-known 190th Mercedes model was born.

Mercedes 180/190

Traditionally, in those years, the Mercedes company, in addition to civilian models based on them, also produced a platform for special vehicles. For example, the Mercedes company produced ambulances for other government agencies in the country. As a rule, cars left the factory without their rear end, on which the required body type was subsequently installed for a certain special service.

1961 Mercedes 190 "Heckflosse"

The Mercedes company has never officially admitted that it specifically monitors and follows its influence. But in 1961, a Mercedes 190 model with rear fenders, fashionable at that time, was introduced to the car market. "

1965 Mercedes 200 "Heckflosse"

A car with rear unusual fashionable fenders was also supplied for the police. In those years, middle-class cars in their appearance resembled more full-size cars than the middle class, and therefore caused great dissatisfaction among consumers. People demanded a more compact model from the manufacturer.

1968 Mercedes 200-280 "Stroke Eight" W114 / W115

Soon after the appearance of the fashionable rear fin, Mercedes decided to design the rear of the car in a more classic style. The point here is this, the global fashion for the "fins" of the rear fenders quickly passed and as a result, the Mercedes company in 1968 was forced to release its new car model under the factory code designation "/ 8", in the back of W114.

Despite the bright and not very beautiful body colors, this model of car "/ 8" sold 1 million 800 thousand copies, enjoying incredible popularity among its customers.

After the facelift of the "eight", this car received a new steering wheel with large notched ribs on the steering wheel itself (shock absorbers). In the event of an accident, it absorbed the driver's impact on the steering wheel, thereby reducing the consequences of. The wooden steering wheel on the car was only available in the top versions.

1968 Mercedes 250 Coupe

In 1968, a coupe version, popular with all G8s, was introduced to the market. True, the proportions of the body itself were not without contradictions and left much to be desired. A total of 67 thousand copies of this model were produced.

1974 Mercedes 240 D 3.0

In 1974, Mercedes launched a new car model with a 3.0-liter diesel engine (W115 body) on the market. The power plant was 80 hp. The maximum speed is 148 km / h.

Tests

In the 70s, Mercedes was working on the creation. To carry out tests for the safety of the driver, the car was equipped with special protection. But whatever the protection, it did not always help out, in some cases, during the tests, the drivers were repeatedly seriously injured. Ultimately, conducting such tests was strictly prohibited at the state level.

1976 Mercedes W 123

A Mercedes car in this 123rd body is the most recognizable in the world. The popularity of this car model is largely due to the scope of its application. It was especially popular in the taxi industry, so the car has become a definite symbol of taxi transportation throughout Europe. Here's the thing. When the car entered the market in 1976, Mercedes in Germany was the only car company officially allowed to manufacture vehicles for taxi companies and private taxis. And as a result, the German car company, having released a diesel model of the Mercedes W123 car painted in yellow, began to supply its cars to all major taxi companies in Germany on an ongoing basis.

Interior Mercedes W123

At the end of the 70s, a huge number of people could afford this car, since the standard of living in Germany at that time, due to the growth in the well-being of the population, was growing at a decent pace, and such a rather conservative cost of this car model did not bother anyone then. For example, the interior of the W123 car in its usual configuration was rather modest and this allowed it to become at that time the most popular in the whole world. Especially among taxi companies, for which the cost of the car is usually very important.

In total, about 2.4 million copies were produced and released for sale. In particular, a huge number of these cars from 1976 to 1985 were sold to the power structures of Germany.

1977 Mercedes W 123 Long version

In the 70s, buses were in rather low demand as taxis. Therefore, in 1977, Mercedes introduced its long version of the W123 model, which was also massively sold in all taxi companies in Germany, as a passenger alternative. The car had a length of 5.35 meters and could accommodate 7 passengers + a driver.

1977 Mercedes W 123 Coupe

Unlike the not very proportional coupe in the body of the W114 / W115, the two-door model in the body of the W123 received an elongated body (+9 centimeters to the wheelbase, in comparison with cars in the bodies of W114 and W115). What is surprising here is that some 9 centimeters were so able to transform the appearance of this auto-coupe. Ultimately, the two-door Mercedes W123 got a fantastic exterior. This car was mainly sold in the USA.

1977 Mercedes W 123 T-Model (Estate)

In 1977, Mercedes presented a slightly updated car.

Mercedes W 123 Electric

Electric cars are all the rage today. But, when no one thought about electric ones and many thought that the cost of fuel at a gas station would always be equal to the cost of 1 liter of water, Mercedes was already fully developing its model of an electric car based on the W123 body. True, at that time, bulky and heavy batteries occupied the entire luggage compartment in this station wagon.

Mercedes W 123 pickup

The W123 pickup car was so popular that even commercial auto pickups were produced on its basis, albeit in a small circulation.

1977 Mercedes W 123 Rally

In 1977, the Mercedes team won the grueling London-Sydney with the Mercedes E280.

1984 Mercedes W 124

Many motorists around the world see the car as the latest and true classic car with a special spirit of legend in its class. Although at the initial stage, the car received many negative reviews, especially from the army of thousands of taxi drivers who complained about the poor quality of the car.

Despite negative criticism and low reviews, in 1985 the Mercedes W124 coupe was introduced to the car market.

Mercedes W 124 AMG Coupe

In the 1980s, AMG was not yet part of the Daimler-Benz industrial group (Mercedes). Therefore, tuning was carried out on the basis of AMG's own lines. After the introduction of the W124 body in 1984, AMG launched the Mercedes 300 CE 3.4 AMG with a 3.3-liter petrol engine producing 272 horsepower.

1990 Mercedes W 124 Long version

In 1990, Mercedes launched its last extra-long version of the mid-range car. A feature of the Mercedes E260 was its length, which was 5.46 meters, it had six side doors. Since then, Mercedes has no longer produced long versions of these middle class cars (E-class).

Mercedes W 124 Ambulance

The Mercedes company also produced in large numbers in the back of the W124 and models of cars for ambulances and other medical clinics.

1992 Mercedes W 124 Convertible

From 1992 to 1997 the company. In total, more than 34 thousand copies were released.

1993 Mercedes W 124 "E-Class"

1995 Mercedes W 210

In 1995, Mercedes made a radical departure from the classic design of its products, releasing the controversial E-class cars in the back of the W210. Many Mercedes lovers could not get used to the four round headlights for a long time.

In 1998, a diesel car model with a Common Rail Diesel system entered the market. But despite the extraordinary design of the new E-class in the back of the W210, numerous critical libels began to arrive at the car. criticism of various kinds appeared. The main problem for the car has become. Surprisingly, the fact remains that this car was covered with rust in just a few years.

1996 Mercedes W 210 T-Model (Station wagon)

In 1996, the Mercedes W210 entered the market in a station wagon, with a huge trunk volume.

1998 Mercedes CLK Convertible

This car is not based on the C or E-class, as many motorists think. The cabriolet car is based and created on the so-called hybrid platform of two well-known cars (C and E classes).

2001 Mercedes W 211

In 2001, a model was introduced to the market by Mercedes. The car's four-head optics are still round and have only slightly changed in appearance. But in this body there were no longer any. Mercedes has taken into account the criticism and all the complaints of the previous model W210. But this W211 model presented car owners with new problems, which were primarily associated with the SBC electro-hydraulic brakes. In 2006, this problem was eliminated when a restyled model of the company was introduced to the market.

2006 Mercedes W 211 Guard

Since mid-2006, the Mercedes E-Class has become available already and. The model had its own designation - W211 Guard. This car was created for those who fear for their safety.

2003 Mercedes W 211 T-Model

At the beginning of 2003, Mercedes showed its W211 model in the back.

Different generations of the E-class station wagon

Here is a family portrait of several generations of the E-class station wagon (T-models). In all its generations, the trunk of a car has had a large amount of cargo space.

2009 Mercedes W 212

In 2009, it was brought to the car market, which revolutionized the appearance of the car (especially from the front). The engineers still left the car with four headlights, but instead of round headlights, the optics design got sharp angles. Despite its revolutionary design appearance, the car did not enjoy much success, and all due to fierce competition from companies and, which outstripped this Mercedes in sales of mid-range cars. Squall demand for this car began after the body of the W212 car was restyled in 2013.

Here is a working and approved sketch of a W212 coupe.

Mercedes E 63 AMG (W 212)

This "hot" version of the E-Class was produced with the AMG division and had a power output from 525 to 585 hp, depending on the model year. The model was sold under the designation -.

2013 Mercedes W 212 Revolutionary restyling

In front of you in the photo is the whole family, which was taken in 2013. The most notable change is the disappearance of four headlights from the front of the car.

After restyling, this model E-Class Coupe changed the car of the CLK model. This E-class cars in the coupe and convertible body, in fact, was not based on the known E-class W212 platform, this coupe and convertible were created and built on the C-class platform.
