But now the car has lost a body kit made of unpainted elements, and its lighting equipment and grille were made in the same style as the Range Rover 3 and Range Rover Sport models. With the latter, the Land Rover Disco 4 also combines an air intake in the front fenders.

At the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, the updated Land Rover Discovery 2015-2016 debuted, which received a retouched front bumper, a radiator grill and turn signals integrated into the rearview mirrors.

In addition, the car now flaunts head optics with stylish LED stripes, and on the leading edge of the hood flaunts the inscription "Discovery" instead of the previous "Land Rover". The nameplates with the designation of the power unit were transferred to the front doors, and the four was removed from the name behind.

They did not touch the solid interior of a large SUV; during the previous restyling in 2011, a new steering wheel with paddle shifters appeared there for the possibility of manual gear shifting. But a complex of security systems has undergone modernization.

The updated Land Rover Discovery 4 can be equipped with blind spot monitoring, wading depth measurement, and tracking of approaching cars when crossing T-junctions and reversing. In addition, the in-house music now produces 380 watts, and for a surcharge it can be replaced with an 825-watt Meridian audio system with 17 speakers.

A 2.7-liter TDV6 diesel engine with 190 hp was initially offered as the base power unit for the SUV. (440 nm), and later it was replaced by a three-liter SDV6 diesel with a return of 211 hp. (520 Nm). This motor is also available in a version with a capacity of 249 forces with a peak torque of 600 Nm.

At the top of the gamut was once a 375-horsepower 5.0-liter petrol V8, with which Discovery 4 picks up a hundred from a standstill in 7.9 seconds, and its top speed reaches 195 km / h. True, on the restyled SUV it was replaced for a turbocharged three-liter "six" with a return of 340 forces. At the same time, the maximum speed did not change, and the acceleration time dropped to 8.1 s. All updated SUVs received an 8-range automatic versus a six-speed one earlier.

The price of Land Rover Discovery 2016 in Russia at the time of sales started at 3,812,000 rubles for the base one with a 3.0-liter diesel engine with a capacity of 211 hp, and the 249-horsepower version was estimated at at least 4,111,000 rubles. For the top-end petrol modification, dealers asked 4 667 000 rubles.

On the odometer of our "disco" there are only 33.5 thousand km. During the year we plan to drive another 50 thousand, and in the most dissimilar conditions and on different surfaces, including the real off-road.

The car received a top-end HSE configuration with a bunch of additional equipment, including an active rear differential, five all-round cameras, a navigation system, a TV tuner, adaptive xenon headlights, a third row of seats, headrest monitors, keyless access to the salon, premium audio system class Harman Kardon Logic 7, panoramic roof with three "portholes", etc. This is not only pleasant, but also useful, as it will allow you to comprehensively evaluate the reliability of numerous systems and devices.

Under the hood, a V-shaped diesel "six" with a turbocharger with a capacity of 245 hp, which produces 600 Nm already at 2000 rpm - locomotive traction. Transmission - 6-speed adaptive automatic. A car weighing almost 2.8 tons accelerates to 100 km / h in a little over 10 seconds (our measurements are shown in the table below).

For off-road capabilities, there are lockable center and rear cross-axle differentials, a reduction gear, electronic hill descent assistants (HDC), hill start-up (GRC), etc., adjustable air suspension (the difference between the lower and upper positions is 105 mm) and, of course, the patented Terrain Response system, which has five modes of operation: "standard", "grass - gravel - snow", "mud - rut", "sand" and "stones - small". It itself, depending on the type of coverage, adjusts the ground clearance and the permissible slip, if necessary, blocks the differentials, changes the response of the gas pedal. Conveniently, everything that happens to the transmission and chassis, including the angle of rotation of the wheels, is broadcast on the monitor. A powerful frame and huge suspension travels add confidence. So far, this entire arsenal has not come in handy, because in our first 3000 km the car did not leave the asphalt.

The interior design matches the price and status of the vehicle. High quality materials are everywhere (even the front panel is trimmed with leather) and all kinds of electric drives. As befits an off-road vehicle, visibility is excellent: the glazing line is low, you sit high, and other trucks will envy the size of the mirrors. The car is bulky for the city, but the perimeter cameras and parking sensors in the front and rear are great for maneuvering. For riders in the first and second rows, of course, there is plenty of room in all directions. And even the third row is by no means for children. In many frame cars, it is inconvenient to sit on the "gallery" - you have to lift your knees above your head, but the British have managed to make these seats comfortable too.

The trunk of the correct shape and impressive size will fit everything you need for a picnic or a golf tournament - 1192 liters of luggage dissolve in the bowels of the hold. If you fold the seats of the second row (this creates a flat floor) - and does 2558 liters. But it's better not to tell the mother-in-law about it. The only inconvenience is that when the lower door leaf is folded back, only basketball players can reach the backs of the back sofa.

The manufacturer claims fuel consumption in the combined cycle is 9.3 liters per 100 km. Our onboard computer is not so optimistic. In the "highway / city - 50/50" mode and with a rather calm driving style, it shows 10.9 l / 100 km. But this is also a good indicator for such a large and heavy machine.

On the road, Discovery is respected - they give way, they let it go. No one honks or blinks, even the most hasty people prefer to rebuild to overtake, rather than disturb. A good self-esteem tool for those who are weak in spirit. Of course, a powerful car provokes an aggressive driving style - now I understand why some owners drive so brazenly. But I keep myself in control and suppress these inclinations.

Contrary to the allegations of the spiteful critics, while the "Land Rover" does not cause inconvenience.

ON A SEPARATE LINE

After receiving the car, we went to our technical center to find out the general condition of the SUV (that is, to get a starting point) and evaluate some design solutions.

The first step was to look under the hood. It is fixed with two locks, and therefore tightly pressed over the entire surface. All components and assemblies are covered with road dust and mud: apparently, it was often driven away from roads. I can hardly imagine the owner who himself serves Discovery 4. But if necessary (after all, a lot happens on the way), you can get close to the main components and assemblies, despite the dense layout. For example, if, while overcoming the ford, you drank water and you need to change the oil, there will be no problems - access to the filter is well organized from above.

The machine is adapted for use in our conditions. For example, a 5-kilowatt Webasto engine heater is installed, which turns on in autonomous mode depending on the ambient temperature. If necessary, it can be turned on from the remote control.

I also discovered some shortcomings: one of the heating system hoses is leaking (the clamp is not tightened well), the air inlet pipe on the throttle assembly does not snap into place. Because of this, an oil stain formed around the connection, and through the formed gap, dirt and sand were gradually sucked into the engine cylinders bypassing the filter. I hope there is no point in explaining what this might lead to.

Standard battery with a capacity of 90 Ah of non-standard size - narrow and long. When replacing it will not be easy to find an analogue. Huge air intakes in the front bumper - no protective grilles. A bouncing stone will easily damage the air conditioner radiator. In addition, poplar fluff mixed with dirt will quickly fill its combs - the cooling efficiency will deteriorate.

From below, the main components and assemblies are covered with steel sheets of protection or hidden in niches and behind a powerful frame. Off-road is a blessing. The exhaust system is less fortunate - thin plastic screens cover it at the rear, so you shouldn't rely on them.

In general, the condition of the Land Rover is good. There are no complaints about the suspension, steering, engine and gearbox. The main components and assemblies have not changed. The scanner does not give any errors.

So far, in my opinion, it's a sin to complain about the editorial Discovery: the car is in perfect (or close to such) condition. Therefore, at this stage, much more attention is attracted by its capabilities: the engine, transmission and other attributes of a true "rogue". There is definitely something to play with and something to play with.

For example, a motor. It is powerful and instant. For a large off-road vehicle, this is not a whim, but a necessity. As a result, it has excellent dynamics on the asphalt: it seems that the acceleration process will never end, and the Land Rover, to the measured roar of a thoroughbred turbodiesel, will unobtrusively change gears, from time to time simply filling up with speed. What is important, at the same time it is very comfortable: no roar, tear, harshness. Only long, like rubber longitudinal acceleration, filling with glee, and lulling measured body swaying on bumps.

But it is she, this imposingness, who will play a cruel joke with you. After all, trying to remain soft and comfortable in almost all driving conditions, Discovery's suspensions gradually rock the driver and passengers. Probably, this could be overcome - for example, using adjustable shock absorbers. But here, alas, everything is traditional, so the roads of the Russian hinterland end up rolling so much that you want to slow down, and sometimes even stop and get out.
