A spacious trunk will come in handy on the farm. Many motorists, when deciding to buy a car, are one of the first to look at the trunk capacity. 300-500 liters - these are the most common values for the volume of modern cars. If the rear seats can be folded down, the trunk will increase even more.

Technical indicators

Many motorists choose a car precisely by the volume of its luggage compartment, since they often have to carry loads, but less than, for example, in a minibus. The trunk on the Kia Rio is from 270 to 500 liters, depending on the configuration.

Output

The volume of the luggage compartment of the Kia Rio is 270-500 liters. This is an impressive trunk that can accommodate a large number of things that can be transferred.

Before buying a car, each driver determines for himself a list of necessary parameters of the car. For some it is efficiency, appearance, for others - speed and power. Interior content is also important for most car enthusiasts. In particular, one of the essential details when choosing a car is the trunk, since it can bring significant benefits to the owner.

Kia Rio cars have long developed a positive reputation in car markets around the world - many people fell in love with this model for its functionality, convenience and price. The trunk of this car is quite roomy, which is highly appreciated both among young owners and among aged motorists. The volume of the cargo compartment of the Kia Rio ranges from 270-500 liters, depending on the body type and year of manufacture.

Each version of the car has both advantages and disadvantages. The trunk volume of the Kia Rio sedan is larger than that of the hatchback. The first type of body is considered more popular and is called classic. The second one is more suitable for family pastime.

The advantage of the Kia Rio hatchback trunk is the presence of a larger opening. This makes it possible to place bulky items in the cargo compartment and facilitates the process of their loading and unloading. Also, a car with a shortened rear end maneuvers on city roads faster than its opponent. However, for people who regularly transport any kind of cargo, the sedan will be a more advantageous option.

First generation

The first generation of cars, the production of which lasted from 2000 to 2005, is presented in sedan and station wagon bodies. The Kia rio originally had a trunk of 326 liters. regardless of the configuration. After restyling in 2003, manufacturers managed to reduce the total weight of the car, but the volume of the luggage compartment remained unchanged. In the station wagon, the volume of the cargo part is 449 liters.

Second generation

In the second generation (2005-2011), due to the change in the dimensions of the car, the boot capacity increased by 29%, amounting to 339 liters. (after restyling in 2009 - 390 liters) for the sedan and 270 liters. for the hatchback. For example, the 2010 hatchback can hold two L suitcases.

The rear seats began to fold, which made it possible to transport long items.

Third generation

The cars of the Korean brand in question in the third generation performed in front of an audience in March 2011. The trunk of the sedan "grew" to 500 liters, and the back of the rear seat began to fold in a 60:40 ratio. This made it possible to obtain additional space for placing large items over 1.5 meters long.

Taking the 2013 Kia Rio as an example, we note that the luggage space is increased by reducing the rear seats. For people of average height, this will not create much inconvenience.

The trunk volume of the Kia Rio 2015 is characterized by the following parameters:

 • length - 98.4 cm;
 • width - 143.9 cm;
 • height - 55.7 cm.

Changes after restyling are associated with the appearance of a three-door and five-door hatchback, while the sizes of the trunks do not differ (288 liters). The quality of finishing materials has also improved.

In the third generation, the Rio's trunk volume has increased, and the car's carrying capacity has become consistent with the C-class.

Fourth generation

In the fourth generation, which began with the release of the Kia Rio 2016, the boot size was reduced to 480 liters, but the width of the cabin and the distance between the seats were increased. As with previous models, the rear seats can be folded down (60:40).

A format called Kia rio X-Line with cross-hatchback styling. The interior is similar to that of a sedan, with increased width and height. The rear seats fold down completely, flush with the floor. There is a spare wheel compartment under the removable floor of the luggage compartment, which tightly fixes the wheel.

The trunk sill is high and a step appears when the rear seats are folded down. The volume of the cargo compartment is 390 liters, with the seats folded down - 1075 liters.

The tailgate opens high, the opening is wide. The wheel arches are well arranged and do not reduce the space. The finish is plastic. Unlike pile, such material practically does not get dirty, but is susceptible to mechanical damage.

The table details the parameters of the luggage compartment for this model of the Korean brand.

Luggage compartment features

According to the criterion under consideration, in the car market of the same class, the Kia Rio models are much inferior to the Hyundai Solaris, Ford Fiesta, Lada X-Ray and Renault Sandero.

The main advantages of the Kia Rio trunk are:

 • Good roominess.
 • Special mat covering the spare tire.
 • Easy transformation of the rear seats by pressing the handles located on them.

The disadvantages are as follows:

 • High loading.
 • Rear seats folded overhang, which is why there is a threat to spoil the trim.
 • Access to the department is inconvenient.

Kia Rio with a spacious trunk is the embodiment of the spirit of freedom, because wherever you go in this car, you can always take everything you need with you.

Before purchasing a car, each buyer pays attention to its technical characteristics. Many buyers pay attention to the volume of the trunk. The trunk in the Kia Rio 2014 is quite roomy, so this car is ideal for transporting small loads.

Today the automotive market can offer a fairly wide selection. Therefore, each buyer will definitely find the model that will suit him in all respects. For some, a car is a means of transportation, for others an indicator of status in society. A car can tell a lot about its owner. There are cars that most car enthusiasts cannot afford, so they choose more budget models.

The price of the Kia Rio car differs significantly from other cars of the same class. This Korean model is available in two types - sedan and hatchback. This model hit the European market in 2000. And it is being produced to this day. It should be noted that the sedan began to be produced much earlier than the hatchback. But this fact does not interfere with the popularity of the latest model. If you go online, you can see a large number of reviews from car owners. The sedan and hatchback have both advantages and minor disadvantages according to reviews. It is the reviews that help the buyer decide on the purchase.

The main advantage is that it is an ideal value for money. Also, the Kia Rio's gas mileage plays an important role. Due to the fact that the consumption of a car is quite low, at current fuel prices, this will help save a significant amount of money. But many buyers pay attention to the car trunk. For some, this is the most important part of the car. After all, it serves not only as a means of transportation, but also as a vehicle for the transportation of certain goods. The trunk in the Kia Rio 2014 has a number of advantages and minor disadvantages.

The trunk in the Kia Rio hatchback

Kia Rio hatchback 2014 is a well-equipped modern car. This model is not designed for high speed driving. Therefore, it is ideal for moving around the city, and its trunk will help you transport small amounts of cargo. The trunk of this model can easily turn a trip into an exciting journey, because its volume will allow you to take everything you need with you. The trunk volume of the Kia Rio hatchback is 500 liters. This figure is significant for representatives of a car of this class. Allowed the total mass of the Kia Rio 2014 hatchback is 1565 kg. If you open the trunk, you can see a rubber mat that hides the spare wheel from view.

It is located underneath. For the transportation of bulky goods, the shelf is easily removed, which separates the rear window from the luggage compartment. The hatchback is suitable for larger loads, it is possible to fold the rear seats, thereby increasing the trunk volume by almost 2 times. But here it should be noted that a flat floor will not work because of the lowered seats. They perform a little. In such cases, you need to be careful, because you can easily damage the rear seat trim.

So, the trunk of the Kia Rio hatchback has:

 • Quite a large volume. Convenient for users who periodically transport something. Also suitable as a family car. With it, you can easily make any family trip.
 • Rubber mat that gives a nice look to the trunk. It covers the spare tire from human sight.
 • Easy assembly of rear seats. Folded with handles on them. You just have to press them and fold the seats. This process significantly increases the trunk space.

Following these facts, the trunk of the Kia Rio hatchback has only positive properties. The tailgate opens and closes fairly easily. Also, the tailgate does not spoil the overall design of the car.

The trunk in the Kia Rio sedan

The 2014 Kia Rio sedan has a pretty nice appearance. This car is very popular among users. The manufacturers of the Kia Rio have relied on its ease of use. There is nothing superfluous in it. Also worth noting is the low maintenance price of the Kia Rio sedan. But the 2014 model has a nice boot volume. The characteristics of the Kia Rio are similar to the Hyundai Accent. But Korean manufacturers were able to increase the trunk volume in the Kia Rio by as much as 46 liters.

The total volume is 500 liters. Such volume is not typical for other cars of this class. Such significant capacity is available in cars that are two classes higher than the 2014 Kia Rio sedan.

To increase the volume, it is possible to recline the rear seat backs. But there are also minor flaws in the trunk of the Kia Rio. Of course, the disadvantages are said loudly, but it's worth noting that the 2014 Kia Rio has a rather large loading height. Of course, this is not a problem for a true man. There is also no button on the trunk that would be meant to open it.

Without it, you need to either open it with a key, or use a lever in the passenger compartment. The trunk of the Kia rio sedan is not rubber, but a plastic mat. The spare wheel is stored under this mat. You can also hide small tools and other things under the rug that will spoil the view. If this mat is damaged, it can be easily replaced with a rubber one. But some Kia Rio users also lay a rubber mat over the plastic. This is because the plastic mat can be easily damaged while the rubber mat cannot. And the prices for them are different, a rubber mat is much cheaper than a plastic one. The trunk of the Kia rio has:

 • Large volume;
 • The ability to recline the rear seats to increase roominess;
 • A rug that removes the spare tire from view;
 • A door that can be opened with a key or a lever from the passenger compartment.

The disadvantages include the high loading height and the lack of a button on the tailgate. But the tailgate has a nice design that gives the car even more courage.

The era of the second generation of the popular Kia Rio model fell on the initial period of global transformations at Kia Motors, which subsequently made the Korean manufacturer a worthy competitor to many world auto giants. Naturally, this left its mark on the evolution of the Rio. The car has become much better quality, more modern, technologically advanced and more attractive for the average buyer.

The announcement of the second generation Kia Rio (JB) took place in 2005 during the Detroit Auto Show, where the North American sedan version was presented to the public. Later, in Geneva, European modifications were shown, presented by a sedan and a hatchback, created specifically for the requests and wishes of buyers from Europe. The second generation of Rio was created on the joint Hyundai Accent MC platform, thanks to which the car's dimensions increased slightly, going beyond the usual B-class framework. Despite this, the manufacturer continued to position it precisely as a compact family car.

In terms of design, the second generation of Kia Rio stepped towards European preferences, and this is not surprising, because Europe, including Russia, was becoming the main sales market for the Korean manufacturer at that time. Meanwhile, there were no global changes in appearance in comparison with the first generation of Rio. Korean designers added a little dynamism to the body contours, provided the car with large expressive headlights and stretched black plastic moldings of a non-standard configuration around the entire perimeter, which noticeably increase in the rear part of the body.
A more noble appearance of the 2nd generation Rio was given during the 2009 restyling, on which the famous German car designer Peter Schreier, invited to the Korean company, worked. It was he who introduced the new proprietary radiator grille, developed a spoiler for luxury modifications and redesigned the architecture of the bumpers, making them much more modern.

Initially, the dimensions of the second generation Kia Rio, especially the hatchback, fit well within the B-class. So the length of the hatchback was 3990 mm, and the sedan - 4240 mm; the width was 1695 mm for all body variants, the same was true for the height - 1470 mm. After restyling in 2009, the sedan and hatchback slightly increased in length - the sedan grew to 4250 mm, and the hatchback stretched to 4025 mm, the rest of the dimensions did not change. The length of the wheelbase has not changed either; for all body modifications of all years of production, it was exactly 2500 mm. The same applies to the ride height, which was 155 mm. In turn, the curb weight of the standard vehicle, on the contrary, significantly decreased due to the use of lighter materials after restyling - initially the mass of the second generation Rio was equal to 1154 kg, and after 2009 it decreased to 1064 kg.

In contrast to the exterior, the interior of the second generation Kia Rio has changed dramatically. Frankly cheap materials have become a thing of the past, dust and sound insulation have improved, the layout of the cabin has become much more convenient, ergonomic, and the free space for both the front and rear rows of seats has increased. The front panel has received a completely new architecture aimed at ensuring maximum comfort for the driver: access to the controls has become noticeably easier, their location has become more ergonomic, the steering wheel has been redesigned, and the instrument panel has been updated.

Due to the increase in dimensions, the trunk was also increased, and its volume was further increased during the restyling. So the sedan initially had a useful luggage compartment volume of 339 liters, and then increased to 390 liters. In the hatchback, the trunk volume was 270 liters, but with the rear seats folded it increased to 1107 liters. After restyling, the initial volume practically did not change, but in the version with folded back row seats it increased to 1145 liters.

Specifications. Officially, only modifications with one single gasoline engine were sold in Russia. At the plant in Kaliningrad, the second generation Kia Rio was equipped with a 1.4-liter four-cylinder atmospheric unit with a 16-valve DOHC type mechanism, which produced no more than 97 hp. maximum power at 6000 rpm. The peak torque of this engine was at around 125 Nm, developed at 4700 rpm. The engine, as in the first generation, was equipped with a 5-speed "mechanics" or a 4-band "automatic".
In terms of dynamic characteristics, the second generation of Kia Rio did not show anything outstanding, the maximum speed of the car was limited to 173 km / h, and the time for starting acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h took on average about 12.5 - 13.0 seconds.
As for the appetite of the engine, in the city the car consumed about 7.9 liters per 100 km.

The suspension of the second generation Rio retained the same layout, but became more adapted to Russian roads. The stability of the car was improved by increasing the wheel track, the ABS + EBD system appeared in the basic version of the equipment, and the shock absorber settings were also changed.

Note that there have been significant improvements in the area of security. The Kia Rio II was one of the first Korean cars to receive four stars in the Euro NCAP tests. Unlike the previous generation, the standard equipment of the second generation Kia Rio now includes six airbags, front seat belts with pretensioners, as well as anchorages for child seats.

And in terms of equipment, the second generation of Kia Rio has added quite noticeably. Already in the basic configuration, this car received a driver's seat with eight adjustments, an audio system, heated rear window, initial power accessories and a number of other equipment.

In 2013, the second generation Kia Rio is very successfully sold in the secondary car market in Russia. A car produced in 2010 can be purchased for an average of 350,000 - 400,000 rubles. The second generation Kia Rio was discontinued in 2011 when it was replaced by a third generation model.

Trunk volume of the sedan Kia Rio the current generation is exactly 500 liters... The hatchback has a smaller capacity, just 389 liters. The last restyling of the Kia Rio in 2015 did not change these indicators. It is worth noting that in addition to the free space under the floor of the luggage compartment of the Rio, there is a niche for a full-size spare wheel.

The loading height of the trunk is 721 mm, and the dimensions of the opening are 447 by 958 mm. Further more detailed interior dimensions of the sedan trunk.

 • Distance between wheel arches - 1024 mm
 • Distance to seat back (trunk length inside) - 984 mm
 • Distance from the floor to the top of the trunk (height inside) - 557 mm
 • Trunk width at widest point - 1439 mm

The spare wheel under the boot floor of the Kia Rio is tightly fixed, so that no extra noise from there awaits you, see the photo below.

Naturally, the backrest of the rear seat folds in a ratio of 60 to 40. There is a rather large opening under the seat back, which connects the interior with the luggage compartment. This increases the usability of the vehicle. If you fold the rear backrest completely or partially, then things more than 1.5 meters long can easily fit into the interior of the car.

You can argue for a long time about the practicality of a sedan or hatchback. But the rear door of the Kia Rio hatchback provides a large loading opening and allows you to load very voluminous things into the cabin. But if there are passengers in the back seat, then it makes sense in a small trunk volume of 389 liters Little.
