Decent tires are created every season. We will tell you about the best of them today. Photo: revistadelmotor.es

The most popular tires of this summer

Hankook Ventus V12

It is one of the best selling tires of the summer of 2017. The number of standard sizes that can be purchased reaches eighty-five pieces. Tire diameters are fifteen to twenty one inches.

The tires of this production have excellent grip on slippery surfaces, and good resistance is created due to the tread pattern with 3 grooves located along the length. In addition, they are stable when driving on wet surfaces, and the steel cord increases their wear resistance and extends their service life.

Among the main advantages of the Ventus V12 are strength, excellent grip, comfort, reasonable cost, which is combined with high quality.

In the manufacture of tires, the developers use the latest generation of rubber compounds, they increase wear resistance, as well as improve resistance to thermal aging.

Continental premium contact 6

These tires are characterized above all by comfort, handling, economy and safety. They are durable in operation and reduce fuel consumption.

The model is made from Germany, has a diameter of seventeen to twenty one centimeters, so it is suitable for both ordinary "cars" and for sports cars and crossovers. Photo: avtovesti.com

To achieve these characteristics, manufacturers have created the latest rubber compound and have come up with an innovative design for tires.

Thanks to this, the Contact 6 won several tests, it also distinguished itself for its grip and braking properties and a low rolling resistance coefficient.

Of the shortcomings, it is worth highlighting quick erasure, since the tires are quite soft.

Michelin agilis

Michelin has released a new series of Agilis tires, which are quite tough compared to their predecessors, which is a plus for domestic roads. Photo: img.avito.st

The tires have a 2-nd cord weave, and their sidewalls are equipped with inserts, which saves the tires from puncture when driving on uneven surfaces.

In addition, Agilis is distinguished by its high resistance to rapid wear, large tread, durability and the ability to cover distances over country terrain. The diameter is only suitable for passenger cars.

Of the minuses, the tires are quite heavy, because of this, fuel consumption increases and the efficiency of the suspension functioning decreases during fast driving on uneven roads.

Nokian Hakka Green 2

The Green 2 series from Nokian Hakka cannot be ignored. These tires are designed for operation in difficult climatic conditions, where the temperature in summer does not exceed twenty degrees.

Engineers have created a rubber compound that allows the tires to withstand sudden changes in temperature comfortably. It also provides excellent wet and dry handling.

  • Noise and hum are reduced by the presence of special grooves.
  • But it should be borne in mind that such rubber quickly deteriorates.
  • Green 2 sizes range from fifteen to seventeen inches.

Toyo Proxes T1-R

T1-R is the new flagship of Toyo Proxes... The T1 R tires are perfect for those who love fast driving, they have excellent handling at high speed and grip on wet pavement.

The tires were created using computer simulation tools. The rubber has successfully passed various tests and tests.

Tire diameters range from seventeen to twenty inches.

Popular tires of 2016

Now let's talk a little about the tires popular last year.

Nokian Hakka Green

The Finnish brand Nokian Hakka Green gained wide distribution last year. The developers managed to create a new rubber compound, which consists of pine oil, silica and carbon black. This increased the wear resistance by almost fifteen percent.

For the treads, twisted steel wire was used, which positively affected the strength of the tires. Photo: nokiantyres.az

These tires are made specifically for cars of class C and B, they have a diameter of thirteen to sixteen inches.

According to customer reviews, the tires have good handling, soft ride and effective braking in any weather. Of the minuses, many note the too high cost and insufficiently reliable handling on wet surfaces.

Michelin Cross-Climate

A series of the French brand Michelin called Cross-Climate is primarily distinguished by its durability... In addition, it is used not only in the summer season, but also in the off-season.

The use of a special rubber compound increased tire travel and improved braking performance.

The treads have a pattern with a considerable number of sectors, which are divided by grooves for water drainage. Thanks to this pattern, the stability of the tires improves when driving on a slippery road.

In our country, tires are available for purchase in thirty standard sizes, and their diameter varies from fourteen to eighteen inches.

Many owners like the quietness of the tires, as well as their elasticity and short braking distances. The main disadvantage is quick erasure, especially when driving regularly on poor quality roads.

Cordiant Sport 3

This model was also a success the previous summer. This series of the manufacturer from Russia, which includes twelve standard sizes from sixteen to eighteen inches.

Variants specifically for crossovers have been added as they are the fastest growing on the market. Photo: 24aul.ru

The Sport 3 tires feature a reinforced sidewall. Owners also note good water retention, durability, uniform tread wear and excellent traction. These tires are not suitable for driving on the ground, and problems can arise if the vehicle is equipped with a rigid suspension.

BFGoodrich - Urban-Terrain

A novelty from the BFGoodrich brand - Urban-Terrain was also successfully sold last year. It was created specifically for small and medium crossovers. Eighteen sizes are available for purchase, ranging in size from fifteen to eighteen inches.

The tires are designed primarily for driving on asphalt. But they are also able to withstand driving on the ground. The Urban-Terrain's carcass has been specially reinforced to add durability when driving off-road. The drainage is carried out by a system of channels in the tread pattern.

Buyers highlight the comfort of the tires, acceptable rolling, quietness and softness. Of the minuses - a little hard, until fully warmed up.

Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3

Tires from the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 gained popularity primarily due to their high speed... For them, the engineers added some technical innovations, for example, the rubber compound consists of rubber with an adhesive effect. In addition, three-dimensional tread blocks were used for the tires, which had a positive effect on the braking distance.

Tires are reliable and durable, and owners also write about comfort and low noise. But they are not good enough for driving on wet terrain.

You will find recommendations for buying summer tires for your car in this video and in the text below:

  • When buying, be sure to consider the type and size of tires in order for them to fit your car... These parameters are indicated in the instruction manual of the machine;
  • A high-quality tire should have economy, acceptable running characteristics, durability and low noise;
  • Many people buy tires of a large size, because they not only improve traction and traction, but also have a positive effect on the appearance of the car;
  • If you drive frequently on the ground, it is best to purchase tires with a shallow tread pattern. It is also necessary that they are not very rigid;
  • If fuel economy is important to you, look out for energy efficient tires. True, not all of them have sufficient efficiency, so it is recommended to buy tires supplied for the original configuration;
  • You can buy tires from an authorized dealer, they have original production, but their cost will be high. In specialized stores you will find a wider range and different prices from high to low. Also, online stores have recently become popular, especially owners of wheels of non-standard sizes turn there;
  • Use the recommendations provided by your car manufacturer... These tips are based on model dimensions, ride characteristics, lifting capacity and more.

Outcome

So, today on the market there is a wide variety of tires from different manufacturers, which makes the choice somewhat difficult. In order to make it easier, we have outlined the most popular models of the past and this summer, which are worth paying attention to, and also provided some tips for purchasing them.

Summer tires are made from a much softer rubber compound than winter tires, which provides better grip and superior handling on dry and wet roads in warmer conditions.

Summer tires also have a much simpler tread pattern with fewer grooves. This tread pattern optimizes road contact during the dry summer months, giving the vehicle much better traction and stopping power.

What benefits should the best summer tires of 2018 give us? It's simple, we expect 4 main characteristics from the best summer tires, according to which they should surpass their competitors:

  • Better roll-off and reduced fuel consumption as a result... Since the joints in summer tires have less elasticity, the rolling resistance of the tire is reduced on dry roads. As a result, drivers can benefit from better roll forward.
  • Improved driver comfort and noise reduction... Summer tires are softer than their winter counterparts, which means they are better at absorbing vibrations from uneven road surfaces and are generally quieter.
  • Improved handling... Soft tires provide better grip on dry surfaces. And the best summer tires of 2018 should provide unmatched handling and steering stability.
  • Wear resistance... One of the most important parameters for saving on rubber. Of course, a good tire has to be durable.

We analyzed the test results of new tires for the 2017/2018 model year, and then read the few (after all, the tires are new) reviews from the owners of such rubber. This gave us a big picture.

We were able to select, indeed, the best summer tires of the current 2018.

We have also monitored the prices for target tires and listed in the rating one of the most popular standard sizes - 16 radius. So here's our ranking of the best summer tires of 2018!

Winter this year turned out to be unexpectedly long. However, it cannot last all year round even in the Arctic. So, sooner or later the time will come to change winter tires for summer ones. The Dvizhok magazine found out what new items in the summer segment are available in Russia for the 2017 season.

Summer 2017 from Continental - CrossContact ATR model:
specially for SUVs and crossovers

Continental

The German tire concern Continental has presented a number of new products in Russia, the main of which is the PremiumContact 6 ( in the photo on the left). These tires, according to the manufacturer, are designed to provide "ride comfort, precise handling, maximum safety and high efficiency rates." For the new model, a new rubber compound and a modern tread pattern have been developed; the tire design is based on the SportContact 6.

Continental PremiumContact 6 tires are available in 70 sizes ranging from 17 to 21 inches; They are designed for both passenger cars and SUVs.

Especially for SUVs and crossovers, another 2017 summer novelty from Continental has been released - the CrossContact ATR model ( in the photo above). It sits somewhere between the classic ContiCrossContact AT off-road tires and predominantly on-road tires such as the ContiCrossContact LX 2.

Due to the special "grip teeth" between the grooves, as well as the "open" tread pattern with a large number of sipes, the new tires, according to Continental, "create additional traction and provide traction on loose surfaces." CrossContact ATR tires are available in 21 sizes with diameters ranging from 15 to 20 inches and widths from 205 to 275 mm, with an aspect ratio of 40 to 80%.

For the summer of 2017, Continental has upgraded the ContiEcoContact 5. The new tire features 20% lower rolling resistance and 12% more mileage while reducing braking distances on wet surfaces. The tires are available in diameters from 14 to 20 inches with an approved maximum speed of up to 300 km / h.

German tire makers have also expanded the range of sizes and modifications of the SportContact 6. The range has been replenished with 43 articles and now has 97 items, including those with ContiSilent ("quiet composition") and SSR (reinforced sidewall) technologies. The composition of the rubber compound has also been improved, the tread pattern has been improved.

Cooper

Cooper has released the Evolution H / T tires for the 2017 season, designed for crossovers, SUVs and pickups, designed for use primarily on asphalt roads. Tires are positioned as a model in the middle price segment and can be used throughout the year.

The new tires differ from the previous similar model - Discoverer H / T - with improved stability and handling on dry surfaces, and better grip on wet asphalt. According to the manufacturer, they have also become more durable. Cooper Evolution H / T tires are available in summer 2017 in 28 sizes.

Firestone

Just before the new season, the Japanese concern Bridgestone launched its subsidiary Firestone brand on the Russian tire market. The first "light" Firestone model, which will be officially sold in our country, will be the Touring FS 100 summer tire.

The new tire, according to its creators, is addressed to car owners who are "focused on a reasonable price, but need a high quality product."

The Touring FS 100 is designed for daily use and offers a high level of handling and comfort on both dry and wet asphalt.

The tire is positioned as a model in the middle price segment.

It is available in sizes from 13 "to 14".

Previously, Firestone tires for trucks, oversized and agricultural vehicles were sold in Russia.

General Tire

German tire makers from Continental, following their colleagues from Bridgestone, also presented their new brand in Russia. General Tire tires are now available in our market.

In 2017, two off-road models went on sale: Grabber X3 (for driving on heavy terrain) ( photo on the right) and Grabber AT3 (for both off-road and urban driving) ( photo on the left). Both tires are all-season.

Grabber AT3 has improved on-road and off-road performance and reduced driving noise; tires are also characterized by high wear resistance. In 2017, 44 standard sizes are presented on the Russian market Grabber AT3 15 and 20 inch models.

The Grabber X3 has a tread pattern with deep grooves, mud channels and stepped edges. The new pattern gives the vehicles "shod" in these tires, high permeability on sand, mud and gravel.

Compared to the previous generation tire, the performance on sand and gravel has been improved by 5%, while on rocky and snowy terrain - by 10%. General Tire Grabber X3 tires are available on the Russian market in 19 standard sizes.

Goodyear

The renowned American manufacturer also entered the off-road category this year with the introduction of the new Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure, designed for classic SUVs and pickups. Tires, according to the company, are characterized by increased strength and durability. At the same time, the creators did not forget about the "asphalt" driving characteristics of the novelty.

Kevlar reinforcing inserts give the tires mechanical strength; the sidewalls of the tires are reinforced with the proprietary Durawall technology. The tread has so-called "open" shoulder zones for effective mud drainage, as well as pronounced lugs, which improve the car's handling on non-solid soils. The Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure tires are available in 27 sizes ranging from 205/70 R15 to 255/55 R19.

Michelin

For the 2017 summer season, the French manufacturer has expanded its range of high-performance sports tires, renewed a tire for SUVs and crossovers, and also upgraded a model for the off-season. The new Pilot Sport 4S has been added to the Michelin range of high-performance tires for high-performance premium cars and sports cars. The tires are supplied for the original equipment of the new generation Porsche Panamera, Mercedes-AMG E 63, Ferrari GTC4 Lusso. The size range of the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tire will be replenished with ten sizes: the model will be available in 34 variants for wheels with rim diameters from 17 to 19 inches.

The Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, designed for indoor racing with road use, will be available in 33 sizes from 17 to 21 inches in 2017. The model has received homologation for the new generation Audi R8 and the updated Porsche Carrera 911 GT3. For SUV and SUV owners, Michelin offers Latitude Sport 3 tires in an expanded range of sizes. The model for the new season is presented in 44 sizes for wheels with a diameter of 17 to 21 inches.

By the summer of 2017, the French have also upgraded their branded Summer + tires, designed for use from early spring to late autumn. CrossClimate + tires have improved grip on snow compared to “regular” CrossClimate tires. The novelty replaces the previous model in the Michelin line, it is presented in 36 standard sizes from 15 to 18 inches. There are 13 sizes available for crossovers.

Nokian

For Finnish tire makers, the main novelty of summer 2017 is the Nokian Hakka Blue 2, designed with an emphasis on handling on wet asphalt and resistance to aquaplaning. According to the specialists of Nokian Tires concern, the novelty, made in accordance with the new concept Dry Touch 2, "guarantees safe and stable driving from the beginning of spring to the beginning of cool autumn." The rubber compound from which the tire is made is designed for difficult climatic and road conditions.

The Nokian Hakka Blue 2 tires will be available in sizes from 15 to 17 inches with speed ratings V (240 km / h) and W (270 km / h). The model is intended for family and sports cars of medium power.

The new Nokian Nordman SX2 tires are aimed at owners of small and medium power family cars. According to the manufacturer, the tires effectively resist scuba diving, allow the driver to maintain control over the car even in the event of a sharp deterioration in weather conditions, and also have high mileage.

The tires received an aquaplaning indicator. The water drop symbol disappears when the residual tread depth is less than 4 mm, indicating an increased risk of aquaplaning. The Nordman SX2 is available in sizes from 13 "to 16". Speed \u200b\u200bindices - T (190 km / h) and H (210 km / h). Tires have been replaced by the Nordman SX in the Nokian range.

In addition, for the 2017 summer season, Nokian has launched Rockproof tires, designed for light trucks and SUVs and allowing you to travel in forests, as well as on sandy and rocky ground. The tires are formulated with special blends that allow the tires to withstand high impact loads. The Rockproof tire tread is cut-resistant and has grooves designed to prevent stones from getting caught between the checkers. The tire sidewalls are reinforced with aramid fibers. The speed index of the new tires is Q (160 km / h), there are eight sizes in the line - from LT225 / 75R16 to LT315 / 70R17.

Pirelli

The Italians have the main novelty of the upcoming season - the new model Cinturato P7 Blue, aimed at those who value sports handling, but do not want to sacrifice comfort, and created on the basis of the famous Cinturato P7 tire. The tires are "brewed" from a new mixture with a high content of silica and special polymer materials.

These components are designed to maintain the elasticity of rubber during a sharp drop in air temperature, which often happens in summer in mid-latitudes. Compared to the P7, the new P7 Blue has improved wet grip and dry braking performance. The line of standard sizes of new tires includes models with a rim diameter from 16 to 18 inches.

Tigar

The Michelin subsidiary has introduced new Ultra High Performance tires for the summer 2017, targeted at mid-range car owners who prefer a dynamic driving style.

According to the French, due to deep longitudinal and transverse grooves, as well as massive blocks of the shoulder area, the tires have "reliable grip on dry and wet surfaces." The model also received a new rubber compound with the addition of silica - for increased wear resistance and lower rolling resistance. The novelty replaced the Tigar Syneris model and is available in 2017 in 25 standard sizes for wheels with rim diameters from 17 to 19 inches, each of which uses a special rim protection.

Yokohama

Japanese manufacturer Yo kohama by 2017 replaced the popular S.Drive AS01 tire with a fundamentally new model - the Advan Fleva V701. It is a versatile tire for powerful mid-range and premium cars, addressed to drivers who prioritize handling. In addition, the Japanese claim they have found a good balance between wet handling, fuel efficiency and durability. The Yokohama Advan Fleva V701 tires are available in 43 sizes ranging from 15 to 20 inches.

The BluEarth-A AE-50 model (pictured on the left), in turn, is a kind of antipode to the aforementioned Fleva V701: the tires are addressed to owners of middle-class passenger cars who pay particular attention to driving comfort. In addition, the manufacturer also pays attention to significantly improved braking properties and resistance of the rubber compound to wear compared to the previous model. In the size range of BluEarth-A AE-50 tires, there are models for wheels with rim diameters from 14 to 18 inches.

This year, Test World experts conducted their next tests at a training ground near Marseille, and the main differences between the tires, as usual, came to light in the tests on wet surfaces. For example, in the braking performance test from 80 km / h, the Michelin average was 29.5 meters, while the Duraturn's was six meters worse. In addition, aquaplaning resistance tests have shown that while Bridgestone can withstand speeds of up to 80 km / h, the Yokohama lose traction at 65.1 km / h.

A special feature of this year's test was that the braking performance tests were divided into four parts, and the tires were compared in areas with high and low grip in cold and warm weather. Finnish summers can be quite cold, experts say, and the temperatures are often quite low that the tires have to cope well with these conditions. At the same time, some manufacturers are optimizing their tires for hot weather and as a result they may be less efficient in northern summer conditions.

The differences between the best tires this year were very small, with Nokian and Continental taking first places, followed immediately by Michelin and Bridgestone. At the same time, although the top of the rating was occupied by premium tires, less expensive tires, which provide an acceptable level of safety, also received high marks. This applies, for example, to tires from Linglong and Kenda, which received 8.3 points out of 10 possible. At the same time, some tires showed unsatisfactory results in the test, and first of all this concerns Duraturns, which performed poorly in all disciplines.

TEST RESULTS

Although the tests were carried out in various conditions, the leader did not change and became Michelin tires, which provide the highest level of safety in rainy weather. The temperature during the tests ranged from 5 to 15 degrees.

(Braking distance from 80 to 5 km / h, m)

Bridgestone resists aquaplaning the best, with cheap Chinese Wanli unexpectedly coming in second. Yokohama tires performed very poorly.

(Traction loss rate, km / h)

Michelin, Nokian and Pirelli have the best wet lap times, while the Duraturn are hopelessly behind the competition.

(Lap time, s)

In this discipline, the drivers evaluated the behavior of the tires in various situations, and the first places were taken by the tires with the most stable handling and no tendency to unpleasant surprises for the driver.

(Subjective assessment, points)

The best are Michelin, which is more effective than any other tire at braking on both wet and dry asphalt.

(Braking distance from 100 to 5 km / h, m)

The Continental gets the most points, and the budget tires failed to impress the drivers.

(Subjective assessment, points)

The noise in the cabin was measured using a specially prepared dummy. After measuring the noise at various speeds, the average result was calculated, and the quietest were Nokian.

(Average noise level in the cabin, dB (A))

The most economical are Pirelli, in comparison with which Kenda can increase fuel consumption by almost 4%.

Everything is not the same here as in Europe with its good roads. For example, there are the most common, this is the entry level for new golf-class cars. And in our country, these are usually shod with powerful versions. And it is also the most accessible and widespread tuning: on wide "bast shoes" even an inexpensive car looks much cooler.

If there is demand, there will be supply. The choice of such tires in our market is huge. Almost all brands are represented in this dimension - from top-end to cheap.

Wider circle

It has been a long time since we had such a young "team": we are testing nine tires out of twelve for the first time!

You cannot do without top models, because they are the ones who set the upper bar in the final results. To our great regret, new tires and updated Pirelli P Zero did not have time to get to the test (we had to be content with the model of the previous generation at a price of 8300 rubles apiece, made in Italy). But we have a couple of other top-end novelties - German-made Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 tires (6500 rubles) and Nokian Hakka Blue 2 (6200 rubles). The latter is still of Finnish origin, but in the near future its production will be transferred to the Russian Vsevolozhsk.

We could not refuse the tires that were leading in last year's test - these are the Hankook Ventus S1 evo2, developed in Korea, but made in Hungary (5700 rubles). The Land of the Rising Sun is represented by the new Toyo Proxes Sport tire (5900 rubles), made in Japan and debuting on our market this season in a limited number of sizes. Another "Japanese", but of Thai origin - Dunlop SP Sport FM800 (5400 rubles).

Matador Hectorra 3, aka MP 47, is a budget model from Continental; made in France, sold for 5000 rubles. Last year's novelty Nordman SZ Russian "brew" is slightly cheaper: 4900 rubles. Among the budget ones is a completely domestic Cordiant Sport 3 for 4,700 rubles. The model is far from new, but it has just appeared in this standard size.

Of great interest to readers are the Chinese tires GT Radial SportActive (4500 rubles) and Triangle Sportex TSH11 (4000 rubles). And the list is closed by Belshina Artmotion HP from Belarus (4000 rubles). Experienced motorists will probably remember that in Soviet times, Belarusian tires were deservedly popular.

Car-carrier was chosen to match the test participants -. The sedan built on the Golf platform is used by almost all tire manufacturers in their internal tests, since it is characterized by clear reactions, a good balance of handling and communication with the driver.

The tests were carried out in the late summer of 2016. The weather was hot, the air temperature ranged from 22 to 37 degrees. The test site is the middle strip of Russia, the Volga region, the AVTOVAZ test site, located on the border of the Samara and Ulyanovsk regions.

On your marks

We start testing when the weather is calm. We start with one that combines several consecutive tests - this way we can save time for rearranging the wheels.

The first and most precise test is rolling resistance.

First, we warm up the car and tires, moving at a speed of 120-130 km / h along the special roads of the landfill. While driving, experts assess the directional stability of the Jetta at high speed, make soft changes from one lane to another in order to understand how the tires affect the behavior of the car. In summer, ten kilometers, or one full circle, along the high-speed ring of the AVTOVAZ test site is enough for the eyes to warm up the tires and all units of the test car, evaluate its behavior at high speed and give preliminary estimates for the noise level and ride smoothness.

The best handling of the Jetta at high speed is ensured by Pirelli tires: on them, the car perfectly keeps the given direction, without requiring any adjustment, and demonstrates very clear reactions at the slightest steering wheel turns. At the same time, a dense, heavily poured steering wheel with excellent informational content allows, even with closed eyes, to understand from the increasing effort on the steering wheel how much you turn the steering wheel and how much the car goes to the side. Honestly deserved nine points - we give such an assessment extremely rarely!

Belshina turned out to be the most uncertain in this exercise - Jetta immediately formed a blurred “zero”, the steering wheel became empty, and yaw began along the road. When adjusting the direction - delays in reactions, large steering angles and unpleasant steering of the rear axle in corners - that and look will break into a skid. Usually this effect is very good.

The tires are warmed up - it's time to start measuring, which we take on a two-kilometer horizontal and straight section of the expressway. Three or four double "runs" in opposite directions, and we have the first results. After every few sets of tires, we again check those tires that were assigned as base - when the temperature of the air and asphalt changes by two to three degrees, you need to drive on the base tires every three test tires, and if the temperature changes by four to five degrees - every two. This is necessary for the subsequent correction of the obtained measurements. And already at the end of the day, we determine the final results by recalculating the results obtained taking into account changes in the data of periodic measurements of the "stove" (that is, in the results shown on the base tires).

The most economical of all turned out to be GT Radial, Matador and Nokian - with them the Jetta's consumption at city and suburban speed limits is the most modest. The Jetta looks a little paler on Triangle tires - this model competes with the top three only at 60 km / h, and at the "suburban" speed is inferior to 0.1 l / 100 km.

Behind all - Cordiant: he loses to the leaders two "tens" per hundred at the suburban speed limit, and four - at the city. Of course, the difference is insignificant, but it is there.

Now a pit, then a ditch

Now we move to the north-western sector of the landfill, to a special road with cracks and potholes. We conduct races at speeds from 30 to 90 km / h in order to assess how the ride smoothness and internal noise change.

The results are quite natural: wide low-profile tires, due to their design features, are usually noisy and hard. Therefore, six participants "made noise" only by six points, and five earned seven points each. Only Nokian (for a low noise level) and Goodyear (for a smooth ride) scored eight points (“normal”).

The toughest tires turned out to be GT Radial - impressive shocks and strong vibrations from road irregularities run across the body floor, seats and controls. And these are the only tires that Jetta has.

Before replacing a set of wheels, drivers drive off the asphalt onto a loose primer. Here, at a 12% grade, pulling away and moving with varying degrees of slippage, experts evaluate the efficiency of traction in various modes. This information is useful for those who have a piece of a country road on their way to their dacha. The results do not count towards the final standings - we present them solely for reference.

The Cordiant, Matador, Hankook and Pirelli tires row the most confidently on unpaved slopes - all received seven points. Goodyear, GT Radial and Toyo skid more than the rest - the experts gave them five points. Born to fly cannot crawl!

Wait - one, two ...

Evaluation of braking performance is associated with increased tire wear. Despite the presence, with sharp braking, the front edges of the checkers are slightly rounded. For this reason, we first brake on wet asphalt, where the coefficient of adhesion is lower, and therefore the tires "deteriorate" less, - then we repeat the test on dry. But the procedures on both surfaces are similar.

First, we “clean up” the braking lane clamped by the cones, making 15–20 brakes on non-scored tires, - we remove dust and small stones from the trajectory on which the car can “slip”. And only then we perform from six to eight brakes on the test set, each time carefully cooling the brakes with a long idle circle.

The speed of the beginning of braking on wet asphalt is 80 km / h, on dry - 100 km / h (these are standard "landmarks" in all tire tests). We finish the measurement when the speed drops to 5 km / h, since at a lower speed the ABS does not work correctly - the automatic system does not always have time to release the wheels, and the skid, as you know, lengthens. The VBOX measuring complex, which operates on the basis of data from GPS and GLONASS satellites, allows fixing the stopping distance with high accuracy. The main thing is to have a clear sky above your head.

When braking, Pirelli beats everyone, as they say, in one gate - both on a wet road and on a dry one. On wet asphalt Nokian repeats its performance, but on dry it yields a little more than a meter, rolling back to fourth position. On dry land, the second result, 0.4 meters behind the leader, was for Goodyear tires. It is noteworthy that according to the results of both "dry" and "wet" braking in the first four, the same tires gathered - Hankook joined the three above.

The longest braking distance on wet asphalt is with the Matador tires: they are more than four meters behind the leader. On dry, Cordiant is behind everyone, losing to the leader is almost four meters.

Curiously, on dry surface the difference between the participants is just over 10%. On wet, the gap is more significant - over 15%. It is the wet asphalt that is the stumbling block when manufacturers search for a compromise between results and costs (development and production of mixtures, cost of components).

Jumping to the side

It remains to check how the subjects relate to. On our roads this is extremely important - otherwise how can we go around the pits? The key to success is quick reactions to steering turns, stability and mutual understanding between driver and vehicle. The maneuver "changeover", or "single lane change" helps us to simulate such a situation.

We perform the shortest (and, accordingly, slowest) of the former GOST exercises to assess the handling of a car: the length of the corridor in which we need to rebuild is only 12 meters. There are also 16-, 20- and 24-meter "shifts", but the shortest tires are loaded with lateral forces as much as possible, since the maneuver is the sharpest, with large steering angles.

We perform the exercise "rearrangement" twice - on wet asphalt and on dry. In both cases, the tester makes 15–20 repetitions, consistently increasing the speed. As a result, we get the maximum value at which the car remains within the entrance corridor without knocking down the poles. The speed of the vehicle in the exit corridor is recorded by an impartial VBOX.

The Jetta showed the highest speed on wet surfaces on Pirelli tires, on dry surfaces - on Hankook tires. The lowest speed is on Matador and Cordiant tires respectively. The palm in extreme maneuvering handling on both surfaces belongs to Pirelli. Experts have awarded these tires nine points. Both on a wet road and on a dry road these tires fill the steering wheel with informative effort, and the Jetta pleases with clear reactions, reliable and understandable behavior, even with very sharp steering actions.

The greatest difficulties in keeping the car on the wet road arose on Cordiant, GT Radial and Matador tires. Experts noted delays in reactions, increased steering wheel turning angles and low information content, as well as a dangerous deep skid in the second corridor, which requires the driver to immediately parry the wheel.

On dry asphalt, the most difficult thing is to abruptly change lanes on Cordiant tires - the remarks are the same as on wet ones, but the skid is not so deep, although it requires immediate correction.

Who will win?

Before summing up, let us recall Fr. This year we have increased the weight of the braking performance rating to 500 points (increased to 260 points for wet asphalt and up to 240 for dry asphalt), decreasing the weight of the maximum speed when moving. The total assessment of the car's behavior, taking into account directional stability, handling and speed on the rearrangement, pulls by 330 points. We believe that the balance between braking and maneuvering behavior is now more logical.

The first place with a significant margin from competitors is taken by the most "driver" tires, capable of giving pleasure from driving in any conditions and modes. If your wallet allows, and impeccable comfort is not a manic idea, this is the best choice. I wonder what the updated Pirelli P Zero tire that will hit the market this spring?

On the second position - Nokian Hakka Blue 2. Loses to the test winner quite a bit. The performance is inferior to the smallest, but a little more economical and more comfortable. And in terms of price and quality it is better. Recommended.

Scoring the same number of points and dividing the third and fourth steps of the extended pedestal, the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 and Hankook Ventus S1 evo2 tires clumped together, which also fell into the excellent tire category. They are very similar to each other in their characteristics, remarks to both are minor. When choosing, the scales can swing in favor of the more accessible Hankuk.

The “very good tires” category includes Toyo Proxes Sport (889 points and fifth place), Nordman SZ (882 points) and Dunlop SP Sport FM800 (875 points). In all respects, up to comfort, they are very close. But Toyo provides higher directional stability and is more suitable for long journeys, and the primer for all tires is acceptable in minimal doses. In terms of value for money, Nordman is more seductive than the rest.

The next three are from the category of "good tires": Belshina Artmotion HP and Triangle Sportex TSH11, which scored 865 points each and shared the eighth-ninth places, as well as the slightly lagging GT Radial SportActive (847 points). Despite the difference in final points, both Chinese tires are similar in "character", like twins. Due to significant remarks about directional stability, we recommend the Belshina tire only for city speeds, although it slows down a little better than the “twins” both on dry and wet roads. In addition, it is slightly more comfortable, which means it is better adapted to rough roads. "Twins" from China (they even have the same braking distances on dry and wet asphalt!) Will delight on long journeys with a fairly high directional stability, but only if the roads are good - both tires do not shine with smooth running. All three do not like sharp maneuvering on wet asphalt, and the GT Radial does not like it on dry. However, they have a trump card up their sleeve - they contribute. In terms of price / quality ratio, Belshina and Triangle are a little more attractive (both just right for a minimum budget).

The last lines are occupied by the Matador Hectorra 3 (834 points) and Cordiant Sport 3 (826 points) tires. They are slightly more expensive than those that took higher positions, and at the same time they are inferior to them in opportunities. The assets of the Matador are high fuel efficiency, satisfactory directional stability and level of comfort, in the passive - the most modest braking properties on a wet road. The Cordiant boasts satisfactory grip on wet asphalt. Both tires provide confident movement on the dirt road.
