It is worth knowing that the Tipo model name is available only for European residents, but in Turkey the car is sold under the Fiat Aegea name. The car has a wide choice of power plants, including two turbodiesels and two gasoline "aspirated".

1. Petrol modifications are represented by a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine, which develops 95 hp. and 127 Nm of torque and a 1.6-liter engine, which will already allow to develop 110 "horses" and 152 Nm of thrust. The first of them accelerates the "Italian" to a hundred in 11.5 seconds, and Tipo 2018 continues to accelerate to the limit of the maximum speed of 185 km / h. At the same time, the average fuel consumption in the combined cycle is only 5.7 liters. This modification of the 6-speed manual transmission is completed.
2. The second power unit, due to its increased power, makes it possible to "exchange" the first hundred in 11.2 seconds, and the maximum speed will increase with such a motor to 192 km / h. Fuel consumption will also increase with it up to 6.3 liters per 100 km of track in the combined cycle. It works in tandem with a 6-speed automatic.
3. The diesel Fiat Tipo MultiJet powertrain lineup is represented by 1.3 and 1.6 liter engines that produce 95, 120 hp. and 200, 320 Nm of thrust, respectively. The weaker one is also equipped with "mechanics", and the more powerful "automatic". Detailed characteristics of the powerful version are not yet available, but a weaker diesel engine will accelerate the car to 183 km / h, breaking the first hundred in 11.8 seconds. At the same time, the average consumption is only 3.5 liters.

The torque of both diesel and gasoline units is transmitted only to the front axle. At the front, the car has an independent suspension with McPherson flocks, and at the rear, the car stands on a semi-independent suspension with a twisted beam.

Price

The base cost of the 2018 Fiat Tipo in the European market is 850,000 rubles (12,000 euros). The basic configuration will already have everything you need:

Do you know why the Fiat Tipo sedan looks so harmonious? Because it was originally conceived as a three-volume, and only then they made a hatch and a station wagon out of it. Which is quite logical, because the car was made not only for the internal European market, but also for developing countries.

Fortunately, there is no flawed touch of budget in the look - no small wheels, no ridiculously docked trunk, no puffiness for the sake of the internal volume. The design of the front end with its outlines resembles the Mazda style of KODO, but the perception is radically changed by the chic radiator grille, finished with "chrome" and glossy plastic.

In profile, the sedan is not so individual, but pleasant. The low, squat contour of the silhouette is formed, among other things, thanks to a clearance of 150 mm. For our realities, this may not be enough, plus some concern is caused by the painted "lip" of the front bumper. The other side of this coin is the impressively low Cx drag coefficient of 0.29.

And for the stern you can even fall in love with Fiat. Live its C-shaped relief taillights look even better than in photos! And the seemingly short and small trunk is generally an optical illusion, inside 520 liters of space! The cover, which protrudes deeply into the bumper, provides a low loading height, although it's a shame that this low cut is limited in width.

Korean and domestic public sector employees (we will not point the finger), which look very solid from the outside, inside are a little frustrating with the simplicity of decoration, hard plastic and an ignoble chemical smell. This is not about the Fiat Tipo! The torpedo is half soft to the touch material, the joints are all smooth, no squeaks and "breathing" elements when pressed. Yes, the “aluminum” insert is actually made of painted plastic, and most of the elements are still rigid, but there is a general feeling of quality.

The steering wheel is rather slippery, but soft leather (most likely, "eco-leather") trim, thick, nice in girth. Music controls are on the back, according to Italian tradition. The Maserati Levante has done the same - maybe it will warm the pride of the owners.

Here the head unit cannot boast of a breadth of functionality. In his arsenal there is only a modest black and white screen, the ability to connect a phone via Bluetooth, and playback of media files from media connected via AUX and USB. The color screen is the prerogative of the top-end configuration.

Chairs with good lateral support are decorated with a combination of leather and fabric of a pleasant texture. In the maneuvers, it was pleasant to feel that the side bolsters are not a tribute to fashion, and not the maintenance of the sporty image of "Italians", but a really effective tool of comfort. On the second row, there is enough space for three adults, except that tall passengers in winter jackets will feel a certain tightness in their shoulders.

There are quite a few engines in the European range of Tipo engines: there are also low-volume turbodiesels 1.2 (95 HP) and 1.6 (120 HP), and an interesting 1.4 bi-fuel turbo engine (120 HP) with a factory gas equipment. But we, as already mentioned above, are an “eternal classic”: the inline “four” E.torQ 1.6 liters, 110 liters. pp., 152 Nm, developed in the early 2010s in Brazil and previously seen on the Punto.

The motor, by the way, although uncomplicated by modern standards of construction, is quite economical - if you calmly roll along the highway without air conditioning, you can keep within 6 liters per 100 km. Perhaps the outstanding aerodynamics help here.

You won't be able to be nimble with such a combination of engine and gearbox - the electronics protects the bowels of the Aisin AW60T “automatic”, does not give an effective roar at the start, limiting traction, and sets an imposing pace of driving. Perhaps, for an active drive, you need a "mechanic", or even better - a turbocharged 1.4 T-Jet in combination with a preselective "robot" ...

Suspension Tipo is well known from other models of the brand. The front "MacPherson" type was borrowed from the 500X crossover, and the rear beam from the 500L microvan. In motion, the car looks more like the same "X" - the same knocked down and elastic, and, perhaps, only slightly softer. Its rigidity is noticeable only at the joints of asphalt, on paving stones and manifests itself more acoustically than vibrations on the controls. Perhaps the engineers would do well to work on soundproofing the wheel arches.

Moreover, everything is in order with the "Shumka" of the engine shield - the engine is almost inaudible even at suburban speeds in the cabin - it's nice. The elasticity of the car has a positive effect on handling, the sedan does not strive to go into a large roll even in a fast 90-degree turn.

Prospects?

In Russia, they are rather vague. With good hands, Fiat Tipo could cost us "somewhere between Rapid and Octavia", that is, from 750 thousand to 1 million rubles, which is not so bad. But for this you need to localize production, invest a lot of money, do a large-scale advertising campaign in order to change the not very favorable image of Fiat ...

It is not a fact that FCA will now make such investments, having stable demand in the commercial segment and good prospects in other emerging markets. But if I’m right, I’ll be sincerely sorry that Russia will never know what a good Italian car is.

Russians love compact sedans and there are a lot of examples of this - ... a lot of new products from China and, of course, new. So if the Tipo sedan gets to the domestic market, it will be difficult for the Italian novelty, especially given the weak positions of Fiat S.p.A. on the Russian market.

During the test, the car turned out to be firm and tough and absolutely nothing outstanding. Experts tested a car with a 1.6-liter turbocharged diesel engine and a 6-speed manual transmission. During the test, good dynamics was noted, but at the same time there was no steering sharpness, if necessary, suddenly turn. Noise, in particular from the rear of the car, was also noticed. Gear shifted mediocre.

It remains only to assume that the version with a 1.4 liter gasoline engine would be of better quality, because its weight is less, and the dynamics and sound insulation are better. If you take it as a whole and do not find fault with trifles, then it is very comfortable to overcome distances in this car. The machine is balanced, and was not going to compete with the Volkswagen Golf, Vauxhall Astra, or in principle.

Configuration and price of Fiat Tipo 2016-2017
