The range of power units of the model, by tradition, does not indulge in variety. For the Russian Murano, only two motors are provided, and both of them are well known to us from Pathfinder. The first engine is a six-cylinder old-timer VQ35DE with a 3.5-liter displacement, tuned to deliver 249 hp. and 325 Nm. The second unit is a hybrid unit formed by a tandem of a 2.5-liter QR25DER petrol four (234 hp, 330 Nm) and a synchronous motor (20 kW, 160 Nm). There is only one gearbox - the Xtronic continuously variable chain variator with a torque converter.

A crossover with a petrol V6 is offered in front- and all-wheel drive configurations. Hybrid Nissan Murano Z52 has a 4WD scheme by default. The plug-in all-wheel drive is realized using a multi-plate clutch installed in front of the rear axle. The resistance of the clutch to overheating, decent ground clearance (184 mm) and good geometry allow the Japanese crossover to confidently storm off-road areas.

With similar traction characteristics of a conventional V6 and a hybrid installation, the latter has significantly better fuel economy. In mixed mode, the difference in fuel consumption is 1.6 liters (9.9 versus 8.3 liters). At the same time, the acceleration dynamics of both versions with the all-wheel drive version of the Nissan Murano 3.5 is comparable.

This model will not be delivered to our country from America - its assembly has been established at the plant of the Japanese brand in St. Petersburg. Of course, the novelty is fully adapted for operation in Russia, for which the engineers of Nissan Manufacturing Rus had to try hard. Based on test drives and reviews from 2016 Murano owners, the adaptation effort definitely paid off. What should you expect from the SUV, which American designers Nissan nearly ruined in the second generation, and has it gotten better after the update? Let's understand the points!

Design

Murano 2016 is exactly the case when the car is some kind of space-futuristic outside, but simple and practical inside. At the same time, we note that with all the external futurism, the designers of the Japanese brand tried to fit into the exterior of the new model the standard elements of the recognition of the Nissan line, which has developed over the past couple of years. These include the traditional chrome V on the radiator grille of the Qashqai, X-Trail and Pathfinder, as well as the boomerang-shaped LED headlights and taillights - first seen in the Nissan 370Z sports coupe.

In addition, the exterior of the crossover features twenty-inch alloy wheels in huge wheel arches, an embossed bonnet, expressive side lines of the body, tinted rear windows and a roof "floating" above the rear pillars, making you recall the flybridge of expensive ocean yachts. "Stern" of the third Murano can be safely put five points for the original red and white optics, a stylish bumper with a chrome trim and "space" shape in general. All in all, this is a car with a very modern and memorable appearance, clearly inspired by the 2013 Resonance concept car.

Design

Like its predecessor, the 2016 Murano is based on the Nissan D design - a similar platform underpinning the Maxima, Pathfinder, Teana, Elgrand and Quest. With the old version, the novelty is united by the same wheelbase, along with the attachment points of the subframes to the body, the floor panel and suspension schemes - it also has a MacPherson strut in front, and a multi-link suspension in the back. The SUV also retained four-wheel drive with an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch on the rear axle and hydraulic power steering, but the shock absorbers and springs settings were changed and stiffer anti-roll bars appeared (the front became stiffer by 5%, and the rear - by 23% ).

Adaptation to Russian conditions

Work on the adaptation of the third-generation crossover for Russia was carried out for 8 months, as a result of which its suspension became more assembled and handling improved significantly. Of course, the Murano was not made into a high-speed fan's dream, but it was definitely made a super comfortable family car. Thanks to the presence of the All Mode 4x4-i all-wheel drive, you can get out off-road, but you should not abuse it, because the clearance for driving on rough terrain is too small (184 mm), and the ability to choose different driving modes, depending on the road situation, alas, is not provided - in this case, automatic equipment runs everything.

Comfort

After a generational change, the Murano has increased the volume of the luggage compartment - now it is 454 liters, and with the backs of the rear sofa folded down - 1603 liters, while the previous version in the trunk could fit from 402 to 1510 liters. luggage. The shape of the load compartment is convenient, but the loading height is slightly more than necessary. Under the floor is a full-size spare wheel and a Bose audio center subwoofer. It should be noted that this is not the most capacious trunk in its class, but it is designed in such a way that the second row of seats is as comfortable as possible. There is plenty of room for rear passengers in the cabin, and the seating position is very comfortable due to the correctly chosen angle of inclination of the sofa, which itself is quite soft and comfortable. Both the rear and front seats are ergonomically designed in collaboration with NASA. Zero Gravity Seats provide a neutral body position and reduce stress on the back, spine and lower back.

In the new Murano, the seats, the rear sofa and the multifunction steering wheel are heated. Ventilation is available only for the front seats, the headrests of which, by the way, have built-in displays of the entertainment system for passengers in the second row, as well as USB and HDMI inputs. For complete happiness here, perhaps, only heating the windshield with incandescent threads is not enough. Leather, plastic, textiles, chrome and pearl details were used for interior decoration. The interior is adorned with a sleek center console, whose outline echoes the V-shaped trim on the radiator grille. The dashboard is quite informative and readable and has a classic layout: two wells with a speedometer and a tachometer + a screen with high image quality, and not some small monochrome one, but a seven-inch color one. You can flip through the pages of the screen and select the information displayed on it using the button located on the right spoke of the steering wheel.

The widespread use of high-strength steel has made the model's body lighter and more rigid, as evidenced by the results of crash tests by the North American Institute of the IIHS, including a rollover test. The essence of this test: the roof corner is subjected to a load that gradually increases until the moment of critical deformation, and the machine is considered safe if it is able to withstand a load at least 4 times its own weight. The Murano 2016 scores 4.54 for this test (3.15 for the previous version), which, together with the successful completion of the rest of the tests (including the small overlap frontal collision test), provided it with the highest Top Safety Pick + safety score.
