The choice of oil in the rear axle, in the case of the UAZ, is not obvious. The fact is that oil of the same viscosity characteristic is very different in price depending on the type. Mineral water Lukoil GL5 85W90 costs about 300 rubles per liter, mannol synthetics of similar viscosity costs 800r for the same "liter".

And now why is it difficult to choose - if you often go to the forest (and how else with an UAZ), and constantly storm puddles and swamps into bridges, through the breathers, water will inevitably get into. Water in oil is his guaranteed death ... and operating the bridge on a cocktail of oil and water will not add to his health. Therefore, if you operate the UAZ only in the summer, it is cheaper to pour mineral water on trophy raids and change it at the first suspicion of water ingress!

In winter, unambiguously, synthetics rule, due to the greater temperature stability. A car on synthetics does not need to be "rolled out", it can go almost immediately, as the engine warms up and due to the viscosity of the oil in the transmission it is great to save fuel! In reality, my gasoline consumption has decreased from 18 to 17 liters after I changed the oil in the axles and the box for synthetics!

About semisynthetics….

This oil is not worth considering. The fact is that this is an ordinary mineral water with added additives, in fact it is the same mineral water, but more expensive…. If you want to pay for the labor of marketers - semisynthetics is your choice, but for a car it does not make sense - in winter it thickens like mineral water, and in summer there is no difference….

We agreed - in the summer, if we constantly knead the mud, mineral water and change it more often, in the winter synthetics. If we ride around the city all year round and use the UAZ as a zhopovozka, it is better to completely switch to synthetics. It makes no sense to consider semisynthetics.

Selection by viscosity.

It is often recommended to pour NIGROL into military bridges and collective farms. Nigrol is the residue (waste) from the direct distillation of oil mixed with asphalt tar!

The plant recommends pouring oil with a viscosity of SAE, 85w-90... The manufacturer is not important! Change the oil on time and do not get on the burned (left) oil. I personally use oil 75w-90 here is this (yes it happens gl4, gl5 and gl4 / 5, I pour the last 2 depending on what is available):

If the bridge howls (yes, on the UAZ, it happens that the bridge makes a louder noise than the boxes and handouts combined), it is permissible to increase the viscosity of the oil in the axle to 85w-140, It was this very oil that the author of this article exploited Hunter for 2 years, i.e. the bridge howled, thick oil was poured, and with this oil UAZ was sold!

UAZ Patriot is a domestic off-road passenger car with an all-wheel drive chassis. The SUV uses a five-door all-metal body, which is also found on many other models produced by the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant. This car is technically very similar to its predecessor, namely the UAZ-3162 "Simbir", since the new model inherited many elements from it. The bridges remained unchanged, the same Spicer bridges are used here, and there are also interior options available, which appear to be five-seater or nine-seater, depending on the configuration. In addition, the line of installed engines remained, but only the latest models of the engines were brought to the Euro-3 environmental level. The main difference between the Patriot and its predecessor is the significantly increased level of comfort. This is due to the fact that the manufacturer uses foreign components and elements, which in the final design are very large. The hydraulic power steering was installed from the Italian manufacturer Delphi Italia Automotive s.r.l., the braking system was used here from the German company ContiTeves, the steering wheel was also provided by the German company Takata-Petri AG, the mechanical transmission system was installed from the Korean manufacturer Dymos. Elements of foreign production were also used in the cabin, for example, all the seats were made by DAWNSCO, and such microclimate systems as ventilation, heating and air conditioning were provided by the British company Sanden International Europe Ltd.

A year after the start of serial production, safety improvements were introduced. An anti-lock braking system from Bosch was installed. In 2008, improvements were made to heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems, which had a positive impact on comfort. The engine cooling system was also improved.

In 2012, the manufacturer again slightly updated the UAZ Patriot. This time, the dashboard was completely updated, and a more traumatic four-spoke steering wheel from Takata-Petri AG was installed. Instead of the standard radio, the manufacturer installed an improved 2DIN dimension in the new model. In 2013, the technical part of the car was improved. Now the SUV is equipped with a new Korean-made Dymos transfer case. The new transfer case is electrically controlled, due to the presence of a special washer in the cabin, which allows you to select one or another gear instead of the standard shift lever. The length of the rear propeller shaft was slightly taken away and the intermediate support was removed from the structure. A control unit was placed on the driver's door, through which the driver can control all the windows in the cabin and adjust the rear-view mirrors. An ordinary parking brake also appeared, that is, now the rear axle wheels are blocked instead of the propeller shaft. The headlining in the cabin has been redesigned and the center rearview mirrors and passenger handles have been changed. A version with the "Winter package" appeared among the complete sets. This configuration implies the presence of a heated windshield, an individual heating system for rear passengers and a heating system for the rear seats.

In October 2014, UAZ Patriot acquired new lighting equipment. In addition, the model has new bumpers and modified seats. The manufacturer supplemented the chassis with the installation of an anti-roll bar and new propeller shafts. New cardan shafts differ from the previously used ones with an extended service life and low demand for regular maintenance. This year's model can be fitted with a new multimedia system as an option. This equipment includes a rear view camera and a navigation system. The modified UAZ Patriot entered the market in the same year, in November.

In 2016, the last to date work was carried out to improve the car. First of all, the manufacturer touched on the exterior of the SUV, giving it a new radiator grill, in which the emblem was enlarged. Inside, there was a new front panel, a modified gear shift lever, and a new steering column with adjustment, seat belts and pretensioners to them, well, one large fuel tank instead of two separate ones.

In addition to the classic lubricating function, modern automotive oils have many additional qualities. The UAZ Patriot engine has a rather impressive volume - 4.5 liters. This is understandable, since the car has a lot of mass and as an SUV it must have a lot of power. These formulations are quite common at the moment, but it is better to give preference to trusted manufacturers: Castrol, Shell Helix, ESSO, Mobil, Lukoil, Consol.

Gearbox oil.

A large number of rotating parts are concentrated in these nodes. And as with the engine, it is equally important to provide lubrication. In this case, the viscosity parameters will already be different. SAE 85W-90 fluid is recommended. Some patriotic owners are pouring 75W-90 into the bridges. But it should be remembered that this can be done only if the car is used mainly in warm climates. In all other cases, it will thicken strongly, and as a result, a strong hum will appear during movement.
