Used Renault Duster: all the weak points of the model. Weaknesses and main disadvantages of Renault Duster with mileage Duster in the secondary market

10.10.2016

Renault Duster (RENAULT Duster) - the most affordable of the European compact crossovers on the secondary market. The phrase "affordable crossover" immediately attracts a lot of buyers, therefore, when the car just went on sale, the queues for the most inexpensive trim levels lasted for months. But can an inexpensive car be reliable? Now let's try to find out.

Few facts:

Renault Duster is built on the "B0" platform, "" and "" are also built on it. This relationship gives the car a good head start over its competitors, as Logan and Note have a very good reputation. Officially, Duster was introduced at the end of 2009, and its European sales started in 2010. In the CIS, these cars became available in 2012, most of the cars we sell are assembled at the Avtoframos Moscow plant.

Advantages and disadvantages of Renault Duster with mileage

The body paintwork is not very durable and is quickly covered with chips and scratches. Inspection of the car should start from the roof. Do not be surprised if you find cracks in the paint in the area of the gutters, the weakness of the body's bending rigidity is to blame for this. Also, the metal of the body cannot boast of good corrosion resistance, most often, rust appears under the rubber seals, on the edges of the doors and trunk. The rear arches also require special attention. Many owners of cars with standard alloy wheels complain about the rapid imbalance of the wheels, due to the fact that there is a groove on the inner side of the disc that can only be cleaned manually. Headlights sweat on many cars, and Duster is no exception; another unpleasant little thing is the leak of the washer reservoir pump seal.

Renault Duster is equipped with two petrol engines - 1.6 (102 HP), 2.0 (135 HP), and one diesel engine - 1.5 (90 HP). A car with a diesel engine may have traction dips. This happens mainly in the cold season and at the moment - the reason has not been identified. The most reliable was the 1.6 gasoline engine, in which not a single sore was found for the entire operation lines. But the two-liter engine cannot boast of such reliability. Most often, with the onset of cold weather, the owners blame the difficult starting of the engine; there are also complaints about extraneous noise in the timing belt area, servicemen sin on the belt itself and the pump, but, at the moment, they have not come to a general solution to get out of this situation. Most owners continue to operate a car with this defect, taking it for a technical feature of the power unit.

Transmission.

Renault Duster was equipped with a five- and six-speed gearbox, as well as a four-speed automatic. If you are considering buying a car with a mechanic, then be sure to check the oil level in it - there are cases of factory underfilling, and the current owner could not keep track of this. There have never been any serious problems with the five-speed mechanics, but the six-speed one, occasionally, can present surprises. Depressurization of the box is possible, which means that there is a leakage of the working fluid and, as a result, wedges the box. If we talk about the transmission in general, the automatic transmission and the five-speed mechanics are simple and reliable, with the six-speed mechanics there have been unpleasant incidents.

Duster can be not only front-wheel drive. The main ailment of the all-wheel drive versions is the leakage of the oil seals of the transfer case drives. The reason is a crookedly installed box with bearings. Sometimes, four-wheel drive cars have an unpleasant failure - when driving with all-wheel drive on, the system can spontaneously switch to mono-drive. Turning off and then turning on the ignition helps to solve the problem.

Renault Duster chassis reliability

The suspension of the car, despite the small resource of some parts, is quite reliable. The design of the rear suspension for mono-drive and all-wheel drive options is different: in the first case, there is a regular beam at the back, in the second, the suspension is independent. In cold weather, the suspension can make unpleasant sounds, but this is not scary, and after no more warming up, they disappear; due to freezing grease, CV joints may crackle. The weak point in the front and rear suspensions of Renault Duster, as in most modern cars, turned out to be bushings and stabilizer struts, they have to be changed about every 20-30 thousand km.

The softness of the suspension quickly weaned off braking when passing tram tracks and other irregularities, as a result, shock absorbers rarely take care of more than 30,000 km, although their resource is 50-60 thousand km (replacing one will cost 50-60 USD). Silent blocks and ball bearings, on average, will last 60-70 thousand km (both parts are changed in assembly with levers, the cost is up to 40 USD). Also, not the most durable and rear wheel bearings will have to be changed every 60,000 km, but they can hum earlier, but the front ones are more hardy and can serve 120 - 150 thousand kilometers. The regular interval for replacing the front brakes is 40,000 km, the rear ones - 60,000; when replacing, be sure to service the calipers.

Salon

The interior trim is made from budget materials, so you shouldn't be surprised at the appearance of crickets, especially when it's cold outside. In some cars, sitting in the driver's seat, you can feel a draft in the area of the left leg, in order to eliminate the deficiency, you need to fix the foam rubber gasket near the hood opening handle. All Renault Duster, except for the version with the 1.6 engine, are equipped with an additional electric interior heater, which works intermittently on many cars, especially on diesel versions. The reason is a software failure.

Over time, water appears in the cabin, this is due to the displacement of the air distribution unit or its cracking. As a result, condensation formed during the operation of the air conditioner enters the passenger compartment. In cars produced after 2013, the manufacturer has eliminated this drawback. Also, with sudden changes in temperature, moisture may form between the roof and upholstery; its presence will be signaled by condensation in the shade of the interior lamp. Sometimes, the owners blame the incorrect data of the fuel level indicator and the freezing of the on-board computer. In both cases, turning off and then turning on the ignition will help fix the problem.

Outcome:

Renault Duster is a fairly reliable and inexpensive car to maintain, and in general, many owners are satisfied with its driving performance, although there are still complaints. It is worth noting that maintenance and repair of the all-wheel drive version is much more expensive. With normal operation and understanding the purpose of a non-frame crossover, Duster will rarely present negative emotions.

Advantages:

  • Reliable powertrains.
  • Energy-intensive suspension.
  • Clearance.
  • Controllability.
  • Passability.

Disadvantages:

  • Little engine dynamics when overtaking.
  • Weak paintwork.
  • Noise isolation.
  • The quality of the interior materials.
  • Freeze fuel sensor and on-board computer.

If you are the owner of this car model, please describe the problems that you had to face during the operation of the car. Perhaps it is your feedback that will help the readers of our site when choosing a car.

Best regards, AvtoAvenu editorial staff

If the official dealers, who are forced to take for sale everything that the client gives in the trade-in, has practically no choice, then the independent sellers have much more freedom. They can afford not to mess with some illiquid models. Therefore, such cars can often be found at official sites. Should you buy them? It's up to you, of course. Our advice: if you plan to drive such a car for a short time (for example, about a year), and then, then no. Implementation issues may arise. And if you choose a car "for the soul" or as a weekend car, then why not. So what kind of cars are these? Autoexpert Egor Mokshin told ZR what factors affect the liquidity of a used car.

Factors that reduce the liquidity of a car in the secondary market

  • Price. Overpriced used cars are waiting for the buyer for a long time. There are two reasons for the overpriced. Firstly, some models initially, still on the primary market, have a higher price in comparison with the cost of classmates from other brands. On the secondary side, this becomes a disadvantage. Secondly, car owners themselves often have their own cars, remembering how much effort and money was invested.
  • Positioning of the brand. Sometimes some manufacturers, whose lineup consists mainly of budget models, suddenly release an expensive one with a claim to premium. However, in the eyes of consumers, such a car still has a lower status. Also, many buyers are guided by national criteria when choosing. Some Korean, Chinese and even French brands (in particular, Citroen) are still not held in high esteem.
  • Equipment. Many buyers remain distrustful of robotic transmissions and CVTs due to the widespread belief that they lack reliability. Also, certain groups of engines: low-volume engines (displacement less than 1.4 liters) with turbocharging and, conversely, gasoline units with excessive power and displacement (due to too high transport tax). Traditionally, poor configurations in combination with a manual transmission are not in demand.
  • Rarity and specificity of the model. Brands and models that are in limited demand in the primary market and have a narrow target audience (for example, Alfa Romeo) hang on the used car sites for a long time.

The main factors that determine liquidity are unchanged, but the list of unwanted models changes every season. A selection of illiquid assets in the second half of 2017 was compiled on the basis of statistics from various sites for the sale of used cars: from official dealers to independent car dealerships and auctions. It contains a relative value of up to 1,000,000 rubles. Open a selection of models that sagged significantly for unknown reasons or were not initially popular.

A dozen used cars that can't be sold

There are models in the secondary car market that are in steady demand. But the list of unwanted lots is less stable and changes noticeably every year. However, there are also centenarians in it. See a selection of objectionable models of today.

A dozen used cars that can't be sold

Renault Duster became a bestseller literally from the very beginning of sales - the queues for the first cars stretched up to 12 months (now the demand for the current generation of the model has fallen dramatically - the "Frenchman" has been put on both blades by the "Korean"). The main argument of the manufacturer in the struggle for the client was considered the optimal combination of price, quality and functionality. At the same time, buyers were ready to put up with controversial ergonomics, cheap finishing materials and poor noise insulation of this compact crossover. Indeed, the content of the car seemed affordable, unpretentious and maintainable. But over time, it turned out that all this is far from the case.

Built on the B0 platform, which has become the basis for many budget models of the brand. So, the Duster body is not very durable, which is why on the first cars cracks appeared on the roof at the points of its connection with the rear pillars. This issue even caused a recall campaign. The French reacted rather quickly by extending the length of the weld seam on the roof and body pillars. However, the body of an SUV still cannot boast of decent torsional rigidity. The owners of even relatively fresh cars often complain about the windshield and rear windows bursting for no apparent reason, as well as the difficulty in opening the doors when the car is hung diagonally.

The durability of the body is quite high, but the paintwork is weak. Chips appear most quickly on the rear arches. It should be noted that on Renault Duster in relation to the side body panels, the wheel arches protrude noticeably. Therefore, they get dirt and sand flying from under the front wheels. Dealers, as a rule, repaint these places under warranty, and the owners cover them with "armored" film. Officials also often painted the tailgate due to the popping under the chrome trim called "Duster". Thresholds, the lower part of the doors and wings periodically need a brush of the master. Painting of one element of the body - from 10,000 rubles.

As for the body parts, the prices for the original are quite high. Bumpers cost an average of 15,000, and fenders sell for 10,000 rubles. Many owners of the crossover advise, immediately after the purchase, to replace the regular ones with frameless ones: driver's with a length of 550 or 600 mm and passenger ones with a size of 500 mm. The fact is that the wipers that come with the new Duster leave a decent uncleanable sector on the windshield just opposite the driver.

The Renault Duster was equipped with 1.6-liter (102 hp) and 2.0-liter (135 hp) petrol "fours", as well as a 1.5-liter turbodiesel with 90 hp. After restyling in 2015, gasoline engines began to produce 114 and 143 hp. respectively, and diesel - 109 forces. And 1.6-liter units are generally considered hassle-free. But this is in general, but in particular ...

The good old K4M has been installed on many Renault models since the 90s. Of the congenital sores of this engine, only oil leakage through gaskets and seals after 100,000 km and unreliable ignition coils (from 1250 rubles apiece) can be distinguished. The main thing is to update the timing belts and the drive of the ancillary units every 60,000 km, and at the same time the water pump (from 2,500 rubles), which, as a rule, does not live up to the second belt replacement. The 114-strong "four" with the H4M index, which came to replace him, is also problem-free. And an indirect confirmation of its reliability is the fact that a durable chain is installed in the drive of the gas distribution mechanism of this motor.

The two-liter F4R unit, well-known to specialists, is a long-liver. True, the weak point of this motor is the failure of the phase regulator after 100,000 km of run. If the engine starts to work with a clattering sound, has lost traction and reacts lazily to the accelerator pedal, prepare about 15,000 rubles to replace the unit. Oxygen sensors (5,500 rubles each) and a generator (from 12,800 rubles) are also at risk. By the way, these parts often fail due to dust and dirt that penetrate under the hood through poor-quality seals. The owners usually change the standard anthers to similar ones from the Gazelle.

The durability of a 1.5-liter K9K turbodiesel depends on the quality of the oil used. There were cases when, due to oil starvation, the connecting rod bearings were turned. And this is an engine overhaul with all the ensuing consequences. Surrogate fuel can cause failure of the injection nozzles (11,000 rubles each) and the fuel pump (28,000 rubles). If you fill the engine with high-quality special fluids, then it will serve faithfully for a very long time. It is not for nothing that Renault mechanics consider it one of the best in the Duster engine range.

There are practically no complaints about mechanical five- and six-speed gearboxes. It can be noted, perhaps, that the manual gearbox oil seals are sweating after 75,000 km of run. Replacement will cost about 6,000-9,500 rubles, of which the lion's share will go to work. Therefore, most users prefer to drive as it is, periodically checking the oil level in the box. There are many complaints about the six-speed - the first gear is very short here, so the manufacturer even recommends starting off on the asphalt from the second "speed". Apparently, such a calibration of the transmission is designed for off-road conditions, for driving in tightness or uphill ... The clutch will have to be renewed after an average of 100,000 km, and its replacement will cost about 8,500 rubles.

There are many more questions. "Automatic" DP8, which became another revision of the old, slow and problematic DP0 or AL4, which was installed on various models a couple of decades ago. And recently, the resource of the box has grown significantly - now overhaul is required closer to 150,000 km of run. The most common problem is the valve body. Depending on the breakdown, repairs will have to spend from 10,000 to 30,000 rubles. The risk group is also a torque converter and a band brake.

But for what users say "Duster" separate words of gratitude, it is for its comfortable and energy-intensive suspension, which, moreover, turned out to be very strong. Even the struts and bushings of the front stabilizer are usually changed after 40,000-50,000 km, and the shock absorbers often last twice as long. Perhaps, only the front wheel bearings are knocked out of the general row, which can fail already at the 30th thousand. They change only in assembly with a hub and a steering knuckle for 17,000 rubles.

In the steering, the rod ends can go out ahead of time (1,800 rubles each), and by 70,000-100,000 km the rail itself will knock. It costs 25,000 rubles, but it is easy to restore (5,000-8,000 rubles).

The electrical equipment is simple, and therefore quite reliable. Among the weak points, we note the failure of the steering column switch for outdoor lighting. According to servicemen, due to the tight layout, the wires sometimes break. Low beam and size bulbs often burn out. True, light elements are cheap, and they are simple and easy to change. What can not be said about the backlight bulbs of the ventilation and heating system unit, which have to be updated with the dismantling of the unit from the center console. The air conditioning system has a short-lived condenser (25,000 rubles from dealers) - this is the weak point of almost all Dasters.

Renault Duster is one of the decent and affordable compact crossovers in existence today. Due to its affordable price and high reliability, the car enjoys phenomenal popularity in the secondary market.

Unfortunately, such popularity is not always good, because many sellers who are not clean in their hands are trying to get rid of problem cars for a lot of money. Therefore, when purchasing Renault Duster from your hands, you need to know about its vulnerabilities and design flaws.

It should be noted that the French crossover is built on the B0 platform. At its core, this is a Renault Logan with more powerful engines, a long-travel suspension and a rigid body. Consequently, the pros and cons of cars are very similar.

  • Car paintwork;
  • electromagnetic clutch;
  • gearbox oil seal;
  • high pressure pump;
  • oil seals of the drives of the distributor box.

Now let's take a closer look ...

Paintwork.

If the car is painted in metallic, then up to 50,000 kilometers the paintwork will look very, very dignified. If it is covered with ordinary paint, then by 20 thousand run the colors may fade, and the car will lose its attractiveness. By the way, in this way, you can estimate the real mileage of Renault Duster. After all, if the car looks frankly dull, and the speedometer shows low mileage, then the owner is clearly lying.

It is highly desirable to have a special device that measures the thickness of the paint layer. With the help of such a device, you can find painted elements in a few seconds, and, therefore, find out whether the car was in an accident or not.

Electromagnetic clutch

Renault Duster uses a unique electromagnetic clutch that connects the rear axle in heavy off-road conditions. The clutch is quite reliable, but its electronic control raises a lot of complaints. If the car is kept in a damp place for a long time, then malfunctions are guaranteed.
It is very easy to check the adequacy of the operation of the electromagnetic clutch. Enough to get under way in the car and turn on the 4L mode. If the mode is turned on and the car and the "lowering" are working, everything is in order. If the "lowering" does not turn on or if, when it is turned on, the on-board computer gives an error, the car has problems in electronic control.

Gearbox oil seal.

Factory flaw. Weak and uneven crimping of the bearing led to the fact that the gearbox oil seal cover does not fit tightly and does not tighten one turn. Already after 10-20 thousand kilometers, a leak appears, which can leave the gearbox without a significant amount of lubricant.

As a rule, this malfunction is eliminated for MOT, but if the owner of the car has not visited the service center, then the oil seal can continue to leak until a significant oil leakage, and as a result of a breakdown (wedge) of the gearbox.

Checking the leak is very simple. After several hours of parking, a small oily spot will remain under the car.

Another nuisance of both five-speed and six-speed gearboxes is their depressurization. Therefore, in any case, when buying a car, you must, at least, drive the car into a hole and look at possible transmission oil leaks. After all, the gearbox is not a consumable and costs very significant money, in case of replacement.

Transfer case drive oil seals (for all-wheel drive).

This is not to say that this is a mass phenomenon, but some owners have encountered such a problem as leakage of the transfer case drive oil seals.

High pressure pump of the engine (in diesel engines).

After 80-100 thousand mileage, the high-pressure pump of the engine begins to fail to cope with its work, which affects the power in the most negative way. It is not difficult to check the operation of the pump and the level of oil pressure in the lubrication system:

  1. Switch on the ignition. Red lights on the instrument panel will light up. The "Emergency oil pressure" lamp and the "No glow plug" lamp must be on without fail;
  2. Then you need to start the engine. The lights should go out within 3 seconds. You need to let the motor run for a couple of minutes;
  3. Stop the engine and turn the ignition back on.
  • If the engine is in good working order and maintains the pressure in the lubrication system, the "Emergency oil pressure" lamp will no longer light up, as the engine will maintain high pressure.
  • If the light is on again, the pressure level in the motor is low and in a deplorable state.

The main disadvantages of Renault Duster:

  • small side mirrors;
  • no longitudinal adjustment of the steering column;
  • weak insulation;
  • satisfactory ergonomics;
  • fuel level reading freezes;
  • "Crickets" in the cabin, especially in winter;

Output.

The above are the weaknesses of the Duster, the repair of which can cost a substantial amount for the new owner. But it is worth noting that the car of this model also has a number of malfunctions, but if they are eliminated, this will not significantly reduce the size of the wallet.

In conclusion, it is worth noting that depending on which engine the car is with, the number of Renault Duster diseases also depends. But according to the reviews of many owners of Renault cars of this model, the Duster with a 1.6 liter engine is considered the most problem-free. In general, Renault Duster is not a bad car in terms of price-quality ratio. When buying a car and it is impossible to visit a car service, you must carefully inspect the car, starting from the state of the body paintwork and ending with the mileage on this car.

PS: We will be grateful if you describe in the comments below the main shortcomings and frequent breakdowns of your car of this brand, identified during operation.

    I ask you to report something on this matter.

    Renault Duster 1.6 front-wheel drive, release 2015 (restyling)
    In general, I am satisfied with the machine.
    1. Immediately put the nets on the radiator grill so that dust and stones do not fly into the engine compartment.
    2. Put a rubber seal under the hood (from door 2108) so that the engine does not get dirty.
    3.Painted the rear drums with black primer, otherwise they began to rust.
    4. Replaced washer jets. I put it with a rubber seal so that anti-freeze does not drip onto the engine.
    5. Replaced a year later wipers for longer and frameless. The table is cleaner than glass.
    In winter, the hood lock froze in frost. I sprinkled it with defrost and closed the hood.
    That's all so far for a year of operation and 14,000 km of run.
    The fuel level sensor was also buggy.
    He began to fill the pistol before "shooting" at gas stations, and not to the eyeballs.
    Now it seems to be showing normally, although I'm used to the arrow.
    Consumption of about 6 liters per 100 km. If you drive quietly.
    In wet weather, the glass fogged up at first. I suffered for a long time, drove the air conditioner, and then got used to it: without the air conditioner I immediately warm up the interior and there was no fogging.
    I like the trunk: just right for giving.
    In general, a suitable car for a budget owner and for average off-road terrain.
    It goes well and economically along the highway.
    On a dirt road, even a front-wheel drive with a large clearance is quite satisfactory.
    So, gentlemen, who do not have financial problems, please buy jeeps and do not hight Duster.

    Operation Duster 2 liters 4 * 4 5 years
    Mileage 140,000.
    As for the paint, you are right - chips appear quickly, but only the top layer does not entail any corrosion at all, only aesthetics suffers, but this is a budget car and the neighbor also got paint in the first year without passing 15,000 but on a taurege for 3 million - this is a disorder for there was a man !!!
    In the chassis I changed the ball bushings and I advise everyone to change the front levers assembly and the original.
    This is justified in terms of money and further mileage.
    The worst situation is with the threads of the steering wheel and gearshift lever firmware - they began to break due to rubbing already at 40,000 - I had to use the cover for now.
    And now I'm waiting for the next generation and I hope there will be an electric power steering
    And then the ass is good to go and all the irregularities of the road on the hands are felt that, as it were, not very good with constant use, and in the city if the steering wheel is lighter it will only be good.
    This is the only thing that bored me during this time.
    I also want to say in defense of heated seats.
    All and sundry him smear-stuffed cabbage that did not go by car !!!
    Heating is automatic - when the desired temperature is reached, it turns off and then works as needed. So I turn it on in September and I turn it off for the summer in May - and I don’t bother with the definition of which division to leave it as in Koreans or whom by turning on the auto from the auto start in frosty conditions like in Volkswagens, to additionally press the heating buttons 1-3 the degree of heating and still wait so that the ass does not freeze !!!
    And here it is budgetary and everything is right for your beloved priests - and the prostate is good!
    Thank!

    Duster 2 liters, 4 * 4, 2017 "Privilege" mileage 26000
    Disadvantages: poor visibility (small mirrors), lack of an engine temperature gauge, getting in and out of the car without getting dirty is a problem. The inability to connect the passenger seat heating, but it's hard to find your own. The lack of a constant reading of time, total and daily mileage is very annoying. All this is in the computer, but constantly switching while driving is distracting, especially the reverse of the computer. does not have - you have to switch in a circle. The petrol level gauge with its squares is not very convenient. The rear window is constantly getting dirty and you have to turn on the wipers when driving on a wet road after rain or rain. Heated side mirrors are poor.
    Pluses: Good engine, heated windshield, trunk, hodovka.

Renault Duster meets one of two petrol 1.6-liter engines, a two-liter unit on the same fuel, and a 1.5-liter turbodiesel.

"Fours" with a volume of 1.6 liters - K4M (102 hp) and 114-strong H4M (put on and assembled in Togliatti) - are among the "perpetual" engines.

Duster 2011

Duster 2015

When choosing a used "Duster" it is wiser to focus on restyled copies. Although they have gone since 2015, so there are few such cars on the secondary market and they are expensive. But the updated crossover has better noise insulation, more ergonomic interior, more interesting range of motors ...

The old man K4M does not have serious problems even on runs over 200,000 km, - Valery Kanin, a specialist at the VRmotors technical center, who has been working with Renault cars for over 15 years, shares his experience.

Sore spot - ignition coils (1,200 - 2,000 rubles apiece). They sometimes fail from dust, water and dirt, which on the first "Dasters" get under the hood through weak seals. To avoid this, owners install additional seals and experiment with third-party coils.

Also every 60 thousand km it is imperative to update the timing belt together with two rollers and a drive for auxiliary units (8,300 rubles), and after every second change - also a pump. It costs 3,700 rubles along with work.

You can forget about these problems by choosing a restyled Duster - it is equipped with an improved 1.6-liter H4M engine (aka HR16) with an aluminum cylinder block, trouble-free ignition coils and a timing chain drive, designed for the entire life of the car.

The two-liter gasoline F4R also has a good resource - over 300,000 km. However, after 150-200 thousand kilometers, he sometimes has an increased appetite for engine oil.

The reason is the wear of the oil scraper rings and the piston group. To postpone this moment, use the engine oil strictly recommended by the manufacturer and do not refuel at questionable gas stations, - Valery explained. - From the general points on gasoline engines, I will also highlight the frequent clogging of the throttle valve, as well as the poor location of the oxygen sensor and generator: they are low and poorly protected from external influences. For example, if the protective shields of the generator are lost or damaged, then after 3-4 years it is tightly clogged with dirt, rusts and fails. Replacement will cost 15 thousand rubles.

Another problematic unit is the phase regulator. He dies on average between 120,000 and 150,000 km. As soon as the engine starts to click, get ready to shell out 11 thousand rubles. By the way, hereinafter the prices for original spare parts are given. As practice shows, non-original on Duster is not much cheaper with unstable quality.

The upper oxygen sensor often suffers from poor-quality fuel: it becomes covered with carbon deposits, erroneously reads the data, as a result, the electronics incorrectly adjusts the composition of the fuel-air mixture. The car starts to jerk when accelerating, and the engine uses more fuel and runs unevenly at idle

The 109-horsepower 1.5 dCi K9K turbodiesel added 19 hp after restyling. (originally 90 hp) thanks to a more efficient variable geometry turbine and increased pressure in the fuel rail.

In my opinion, this is the best motor for "Duster", - says Valery. - Because he is unpretentious. Often, problems arise only when the owners pour anything into the tank. Then the piezoelectric nozzles fail. If you do not change them in time (about 40,000 rubles per set), or, for example, miss the oil change interval, you can earn the cranking of the connecting rod bearings. So if the oil pressure light on the tidy lights up, and strange “knock-knock-knock” began from under the hood, turn off the engine and take the car to the service. I also advise you to clean the EGR valve from time to time, which is overgrown with carbon deposits. The culprit is the same - bad diesel fuel.

Transmission

Duster comes with both front-wheel drive and all four. At the moment, front-wheel drive cars are only paired with a 1.6-liter engine, a four-speed automatic transmission or a five-speed JR5 manual transmission to choose from. But the all-wheel drive versions are offered with all motors and transmissions (automatic transmission or six-speed manual transmission TL8). Exceptions: Automatic transmission is not available for turbo diesel and 1.6-liter engines

There are no complaints about manual transmissions, but there are plenty of antediluvian four-speed automatic transmissions. At first this transmission was called - slow, dull and sluggish. But with this machine gun, the first Meganes walked 300-500 thousand km without any problems. And then they began to refine it, adapt it to the driving style and come up with "new" names like DP2 and DP8 ... From that moment everything became bad and the resource of the automatic transmission decreased to an average of 200 thousand km. The most common problem: the modulation valves that regulate the oil pressure in the valve body break. A breakdown is easy to identify: when switching from first gear to second, kicks and even blows appear.

One or both modulation valves die at about 70-120 thousand kilometers, and the replacement will rise to a maximum of 15,000 rubles. You can, of course, save money by changing only the most worn valve, but I still recommend updating them in pairs and choosing the original ones - they last longer. Otherwise, the machine is easy to maintain and does not present unpleasant surprises, if you do not forget to partially change the transmission oil every 30,000 km, and also remember about the weak heat exchange of the entire unit: the box must be thoroughly warmed up before starting, and in no case should it overheat. The latter is better handled by the DP8 machine on all-wheel drive versions - it has an additional cooling radiator.

There are no obvious complaints about the full drive. Only, despite the fact that oil is poured into the gearbox and transfer case for the entire service life, I strongly advise you to change the transmission at least once every 60,000 km. So extend the life of the units, - explained the expert.

Suspension and steering

The reliability of the chassis and its performance is one of the most valuable advantages of the Duster, which we have clearly seen during numerous tests. Some parts, of course, fail, but only because Duster owners simply forget to slow down in front of bumps, pits and speed bumps. At this point, any technique will tell you to live a long time ... wheel bearings to be replaced first (3,500 rubles / piece), "running" an average of 50,000-100,000 km. Duster's shock absorbers are also rather weak: they are changed in pairs by about 80,000 km - you will have to spend 8,500 rubles for the front ones and 7,000 rubles for the rear ones. If you overlook the wear of wheel bearings, steering ends with rods, then the steering rack bushing is killed, and then the rack itself. But it can be repaired - on average for 3,000-7,000 rubles.
