Unexpectedly - unexpectedly, an impromptu test drive of the UAZ-Pickup turned out. The fact is that Sollers provided us with a car to deliver humanitarian aid to Krymsk. And how is the car checked on the road? Moreover, we drove over three thousand kilometers on it.

UAZ Pickup entered serial production in 2008. It was created on the basis of the UAZ Patriot all-wheel drive SUV.

UAZ Pickup received the last update in 2015. It has a 4-door 5-seater cab and a wheelbase extended to 3,000 mm. The modern generation has also acquired many useful systems and options.

Technical characteristics of UAZ Pickup Engine

The car is equipped with a gasoline engine of the ZMZ 40906 series, corresponding to the Euro-5 class. Its volume is 2.7 liters, power - 134 liters. sec., and the torque is 217 N m at 3900 rpm. The motor is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

The maximum speed of the Pickup is 140 km / h. When driving in city mode, fuel consumption reaches 14.6 per 100 km; in the extra-urban cycle - 12 liters per 100 km.

Cargo space

The updated UAZ Pickup has retained all the advantages of a first-class cargo SUV, which is capable of both transferring the cargo and delivering hunters and fishermen to the most remote corners of our country:

  • Volumetric cargo compartment - the volume up to the side cover is 1181 liters, and with the canopy - all 2243 liters. The width of the load compartment between the walls is 1500 mm (between the wheel arches - 1265 mm), and the length of the load compartment is 1375 mm.
  • Carrying capacity - 725 kg, which is ideal not only for commercial purposes, but also for outdoor activities.
  • The sturdy frame construction provides reliability in the toughest off-road conditions.
  • The rigid all-wheel drive is driven by a reliable Dymos transfer case with a 2.542 gear ratio.

From 2016, an electronically controlled rear axle differential lock has been added to these benefits. Eaton's differential lock can be fitted to any trim level and enhances off-road performance. To do this, simply press a button in the cabin.

Security

UAZ Pickup is equipped with many different modern security systems. As part of improving passive safety, the updated UAZ Pickup received:

  • Airbags for driver and passenger in all trim levels;
  • Front belts with pretensioners, force limiters and new height adjusters.

For the first time, an extended active safety complex based on the ESP system (in combination with the anti-lock braking system ABS and the EBD brake force distribution system) is installed on the UAZ Pickup. The Electronic Stability Program (ESP) was introduced on UAZ Pickup together with the German company Robert Bosch.

The list of active security systems also includes:

  • Traction Control System (TCS) manages engine torque and braking systems to keep the vehicle moving without wheel slip;
  • Cornering Brake Control (CBC) distributes braking forces to each wheel when braking in a corner;
  • The Hydraulic Brake Assistant (HBA) is activated during emergency braking to achieve more intensive braking;
  • Hill Start Assist (HHC) prevents the vehicle from rolling on an incline by keeping it stationary for two seconds;
  • Off-Road mode is activated by a separate button on the center console to achieve more effective braking on loose surfaces.

To ensure safe parking, the updated UAZ Pickup uses a rear view camera and parking sensors. In addition to the rearview camera, there are front parking sensors. They can be switched on and off separately using a button on the center tunnel.

Salon

UAZ Pickup has a modern interior and many useful options that increase the level of comfort. The main element is the steering wheel - it is multifunctional and can be adjusted in reach and angle. Cruise control and speed limiter are also available for the car.

In the center of the panel is a modern and technologically advanced multimedia system with a 7-inch color touchscreen display with Full HD video playback, AM / FM / MP3 and Bleutooth support, with USB / AUX / SD ports, 6 speakers, a compass, and also navigation system Navitel.

UAZ Pickup is seriously prepared for the cold season, it received heated front seats, rear glass and side mirrors, a pre-heater with the possibility of programming, heated the entire area of \u200b\u200bthe windshield, heated rear seats and heated steering wheel. Single-zone climate control is also available.

Fines do not come and will not come to us. The carrying capacity of our pickup truck, according to the manufacturer's data, is 725 kg, and the vehicle registration certificate says “other cars”, while many foreign competitors were ranked as flatbed trucks with a carrying capacity of more than a ton. Even if they carry only air in their bodies, any sane person understands that they are buying them as a more affordable alternative to expensive SUVs. The difference between curb and full weight - more than 1000 kg - if you please regularly pay fines from video cameras. Or change your car ...

The back seat comfortably accommodates two adults. But you have to sit like in school - with your back straight.

And we are overwhelmed with a feeling of gratitude to the prudent UAZ people who left the car in the passenger category: we can drive freely even around the Kremlin itself. And we go.

By the way, it is more convenient to do this than before, due to the fact that last year UAZ Patriot and Pickup underwent a deep restyling (we talked about it in detail in No. 24/2014).

The interior has become more comfortable, and the appearance is such that not only drivers, but also pedestrians look at the car. And the reason is clear - there are few such cars in Moscow. Practically no. Alas, in January prices for Ulyanovsk products had to be raised due to the large number of imported components. And now our pickup costs 699,000 rubles. in the basic "Classic" configuration. On the test, we have the most expensive version of the possible - "Limited", with a diesel engine, which cost 879,990 rubles. even without the plastic cover of the cargo compartment (hereinafter, prices are as of the end of February 2015).

By the way, about affordability compared to an SUV. In our case, it is absent, since a regular Patriot, with a closed body of a universal type, the same diesel engine and in the same Limited configuration, costs 10,000 rubles cheaper. So you can buy this pickup only because of a great love for pickups. Which happens (and often) even among the townspeople.

New instrument cluster is more elegant than a pickup should be

In my opinion...

I'm sorry, but did the designers take part in the restyling? These are people with art education, right? Or did you simply order LED strips from the Chinese, cut them and put them in the headlight units in place? The former UAZ looked, albeit old-fashioned, but harmonious, but this one is absurd and ridiculous. However, for the owner of "Patrick" design is not an argument. The main thing is the engine, and the diesel engine ZMZ-51432, by the way, is not so bad. 270 Nm of torque is enough to pull a little over two tons. But the peak torque range is very narrow: from 1800 to 2800 rpm. In city mode, you have to develop juggler skills, constantly tucking in the optimal gear. And when you turn on the odd ones, it is easy to pinch your fingers on the climate unit with the lever. One of the owners of the Patriot told me that he was pushing the lever forward with his fingers. This is a very Russian approach to "solving" a problem. It's like driving on a smoother curb instead of fixing the road.

In my opinion...

After restyling, it is more comfortable to sit than before, the finishing materials are better, the assembly is better. And all the same: the wheels are straight, and the steering wheel is turned 30 degrees clockwise. It is clear, a new car, and there is no 50 km on the odometer, they did not have time to fix it ... It is known that a normal UAZ driver starts life with a new car only after a full pull. But our pickup truck is not so cheap anymore to forgive its "crooked steering wheel".

I turn the key in the ignition lock - I hit the panic button, the UAZ buzzes with displeasure. Nothing, I'll remember. With the turn of the key, a shiver from the diesel engine goes through the body, and in motion its knock overlaps the dashing whistle of the turbine. Okay, the music is loud. So, what about economy? 13.9 liters per "hundred" is a lot. After a five-hundred-kilometer long-distance trip on the M2, I reduced it to 12.5 liters. Still not promised ten. During the trip, I noticed that I was more often in the right lane, among long-range trucks, than in the left, on the way of flying foreign cars. The right is somehow calmer. You have to work less with the steering wheel, the gear lever, the pedals ... And all the time you have to pull out into the field. Yes, it is not for nothing that the registration certificate in the column "Vehicle type" says: "Other cars." Exactly!

In my opinion...

A couple of days before I happened to be behind the wheel of a UAZ "full-size" pickup, an unusual version of the car came across on the road. Painted with flashes of fire, elevated, supplemented by a power bumper, it proudly and slowly cut through the morning stream on the Garden Ring. And on the rear side of it flaunted a warlike couplet: “No infection will take me! I am a Russian man, I am an UAZ driver! "

Not otherwise, gender challenge of fate, you can’t name it otherwise. All the more so because it has somehow happened historically that before that, not a single Uaz SUV had come across to my hands. And here at once such splendor: for five meters in length, for two widths, height - under two meters. And on the "handle" with a diesel engine! Yes, along the narrow central Moscow streets: envy, Europe!

The pickup surprised me with quite adequate responses to both the steering wheel and the pedals - to be honest, I expected it to be much worse. It's a bit heavy, of course, well, and the car is not for "jewelry" work and jabbing at traffic jams. However, another surprise saves - a rear-view camera, which I never expected to meet here. On a more or less high-speed line, of course, you have to work behind the wheel - the car prowls. But it was not possible to get into the snow-mud during the week. Well, the trouble is the beginning!

Outcome

One fan of light and fast (read - sports) cars spoke up against two editors, who have long loved heavy off-road equipment and who gave positive marks to the UAZ pickup. And he took his short trip behind the wheel of the UAZ more like an attraction. And not the most pleasant one, which he does not want to repeat. Alas, he probably never drove a UAZ not around the city, but where he belongs - on country roads, into muddy roads. But maybe someday it will happen, and then the look will change. It happens.

Thanks to the UAZ Patriot Pickup car provided by Sollers, we had the opportunity not only to get to Krymsk and deliver the cargo, but also to carry out a small test drive of the car, which included large crossings, and off-road terrain.

I want to make a reservation right away that it was not a full-fledged test drive, but rather the impressions of the car obtained as a result of traveling for a specific purpose, to a specific place ...


I owned a Mazda BT-50 pickup, but this was the first time I had a chance to drive and travel in a pickup from a UAZ. It is convenient to fit into a car with my height of 192 cm. It turned out right away. I had to tweak the power mirrors and the seat cushion, which has several adjustments. I would like to notice an indistinct "0" on the mirror control panel: given the almost impossible setting to "0" and the location of the remote control, you can accidentally knock down the mirror settings with your right hand.

The first kilometers of the way showed that the first gear on the pickup is too "cargo", and not everyone will be able to get under way from the second. In terms of comfort, the UAZ is significantly superior to its counterpart from the Japanese manufacturer. UAZ passes bumps and speed bumps are much softer. Driving with an empty body can be quite comfortable, considering that we are driving an almost five-meter cargo SUV.

As a truck, the UAZ Pickup is undoubtedly good ...

The high sides made it possible to load a lot of cargo, including a rather heavy generator and equipment. The boot lid keeps the load dry and safe, has a lock, but is also equipped with internal stiffeners that slightly conceal the interior space.

It is difficult to exaggerate the off-road capabilities of UAZ. UAZ Patriot is used quite a lot for expeditions and for off-road driving. The Pickup's off-road characteristics are more modest due to the overhang of the body, but the high ground clearance and the connected four-wheel drive quite allow you to get into hard-to-reach places, including with a load in the trunk.

We made several trips to and from the main camp to collect the cargo. The car obediently took on the weight and dragged us back, making arrivals through the littered streets ...

And now, it's time to go through the comments and "surprises" that awaited us on the way ...

After a while, on the way, they discovered that the "engine malfunction" light was on. Motor Euro-3, it means that you will not be able to reset the error on your own and a test computer is needed. Just in case, we tried to disconnect the battery ... While we were "resetting" the terminals, we found that there was no diagnostic connector! They searched all possible places where he could be, but they never found him. Two experienced uazovods could not cope with the puzzle.

Looking ahead, I will say that another UAZ Patriot Pickup stopped by another, was subjected to research, as a result of which the connector was found at one of the "official" places the first time. Our copy turned out to be exclusive. Most likely this is a feature of a particular car, which is not intended for sale, but delivered to the dealer as a test copy.

In addition, the malfunction did not affect fuel consumption, the engine continued to work properly, therefore, they simply hammered the burning light bulb until they returned to the service.

Consider the rest of the comments on the car, compare its pros and cons:

What I would like to improve:
- On the go, the RK handle rumbles quite loudly (namely the handle). They say that this disease was fixed on the new UAZ Patriot, but we will definitely check it and tell you in the next posts.
- Buttons for closing the doors are tight enough, and in order to open the door, you have to open them, which is not very easy. It would be nice to be able to open a locked door with the door opener handle.
- The aforementioned control unit for rear-view mirrors is located directly under the right hand resting on the armrest and does not have a clear "0" position.
- It is inconvenient to open the upper glove compartment, and the cup holder strives to fly towards the rear passengers.
- Interior lighting has no off position, in addition, the front passengers have only "reading" lamps, in the complete absence of full lighting.

What we liked:
- Smoothness in comparison with brothers in ideology.
- High-quality body cover, although it has some design flaws.
- High sides of the body.

And in conclusion, the UAZ Patriot Pickup brought us to the Sea of \u200b\u200bAzov, where we spent the night, bathed and headed back. I want to note that the long-term driving on the road was transferred very well in the seats of the Pickup, and the high seating position made it possible to predict a change in the road situation in advance.

As a conclusion, I want to say that UAZ Patriot Pickup has the right to exist, and it defends this right with rather serious justifications. Replacing the gluttonous 409th lighter with a high-quality diesel engine, which promises to be a new engine developed by Bosch-ZMZ, the car will be for a certain category of people, even more attractive than Japanese or American classmates for a number of reasons.

Personally, if I consider purchasing a Pickup in the future, I will first of all look at a pickup from UAZ, but on condition that it is equipped with a good diesel unit ...

Not so long ago, the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant presented its next novelty - UAZ Pickup 2017-2018 in a new body (photos, configurations, specifications, prices, video and test drive). In fact, this is the same Patriot model, only this type of body has a higher carrying capacity.

This new product from the Russian Federation will be equipped with only one uncontested power unit that runs on gasoline. The volume of the power plant is 2.7 liters, and the power is 134.6 hp. Previously, a 2.2-liter diesel unit was also installed on the model, but for now the manufacturer decided to move away from using this engine. Only a manual transmission will work with the unit. It is worth noting that the gasoline engine boasts a relatively moderate appetite. In the "highway" mode, the fuel consumption per 100 km per hour will be only 12 liters.

All-wheel drive, plug-in. If necessary, the rear axle drive can be switched off.

The suspension has not changed at all after the modifications. Its front part consists of a dependent axle, and the rear part consists of semi-elliptical springs.

So, the dimensions of this mighty car are as follows:

Do not be surprised that the new item's cargo compartment is simply huge. So, the length of the platform is 1 m 37.5 cm, the width is 1.5 meters, and the height of the sides is 64 cm. The platform can be covered with a fabric roof, thus the volume of the compartment will be more than 1,100 liters.

After revision, no drastic changes in the appearance of the car have occurred. Improvements are visible only in the bow. The radiator grille now looks like a mesh with the logo and chrome stripes. The headlights have not changed at all, although now a small LED strip runs along the bottom of the optics, which serves as the running lights. Below is the familiar large bumper with round fog lights.

When you look at the profile of the pickup, the large side mirrors are immediately striking, as well as the very comfortable and durable footpegs. By the way, the footpegs are well placed and do not hide the solid ground clearance at all.

If you look more closely at the side, you will notice how large and roomy the luggage compartment is. For the convenience of loading things and other cargo, the manufacturer has installed a folding back wall.

Everything inside the Russian open off-road vehicle is strict, but neat. In general, the interior is completely identical to the Patriot model, however, some details are still different.

The center console houses a widescreen display that displays actions with a modern multimedia system. The screen is 7 inches, so it will be very convenient to use. The multimedia system is equipped with such modern systems as Bluetooth, a navigation system with maps not only of the Russian Federation, but also of the CIS. For an additional fee, you can install a camera for a circular view.

In the more expensive version, the SUV will be equipped with a multimedia steering wheel with various buttons and the ability to adjust the reach and tilt.

Also, the manufacturer was worried about the safety of the driver and passengers while driving. Now the model will be equipped with several airbags, ABS, EBD, as well as the emergency braking function, the stability assistant and the assistant when driving uphill, however, only for an additional fee. In the minimum configuration, the equipment of the car is the simplest.

As before, the UAZ Pickup 2017-2018 in a new body is perfectly prepared for the Russian harsh winters. Additional comfort for the driver is created by the heating system for side mirrors, windshield and rear windows, as well as the front row of seats. For an additional fee, a steering wheel heating and a pre-starting system heater are available to start the engine in the lowest temperatures.

Previously, buyers often complained about the quality of the noise and sound insulation of the cabin. And after restyling, this problem was partially solved. Now additional protection will be installed on the floor, on the doors and on the roof.

Cost of UAZ Pickup 2017-2018 and complete set

After the update, the car became available in 4 versions: Standard, Comfort, Privilege and Style. The minimum equipment will be equipped with halogen optics with an LED strip, heated and adjustable side mirrors, power windows, fabric upholstery, audio system, front airbags.

Also, the manufacturer has already announced how much the UAZ Pickup 2017-2018 will cost. The prices are as follows:

  • the "Standard" equipment will cost 869 thousand rubles;
  • "Comfort" equipment - 959 thousand rubles;
  • complete set "Privilege" - 1,039 thousand rubles;
  • set "Style" - 1,080 thousand rubles.
