"Laziness drives progress" - so the idea was born to adapt electronic ignition to "dropsy" - I will be independent of the state of the battery. In one of the issues of "Moto" a description of the installation of the Kovrov generator and ignition on various domestic motorcycles was given. But changing the standard "Izhevsk" one with its 140 watts for 90 watts "Zida" is illogical: the energy of the "lighter" will decrease, and the lighting will "dim". Another drawback: the Kov-Rov generators "pull" in the store for almost one and a half thousand rubles, and still have to spend money on the manufacture of a transitional faceplate. I was advised to use the contactless ignition parts from "VAZ-2108". He was not greedy and installed two Hall sensors and two switches - for each cylinder. This good cost only 500 rubles. It turned out to be a simple matter to symmetrically "put" the sensors in place of the remote contacts-breakers: four plates from the children's designer perfectly hold the entire assembly (photo 1). It remains to make a breaker (modulator) and fix it on the generator rotor shaft. a plate with a hole for a fastening bolt with a spring washer (Fig. 1). I saw the connection diagram of the ignition elements in a car handbook. True, I have two of them, and they work in parallel - each candle is serviced by its own autonomous system (Fig. 2) After loosening the bolt, the modulator plate moves freely, so it is easy to adjust the ignition timing - just set the plate to the sparking position - when the piston approaches TDC. Both switches are located on the frame under the motorcycle seat - next to the generator stabilizer (photo 2) . Field tests were successful. The spark appeared immediately, even more powerful than m before. Later I replaced the ignition coils with "Planet" ones - they are specially designed for contactless ignition. Since the beginning of the season I have traveled about three thousand kilometers. The result is not a single failure and not a single adjustment. The engine runs smoother, the spark plugs become cleaner and last longer - they are also not. I have never changed it. Now, even with a semi-discharged battery, the engine starts easily.
EDITORIAL OPINION
Not only the motorcycle industry, but also automobile plants stubbornly continue to equip engines with an outdated contact ignition system. Its only advantage is its simplicity of design. There are much more disadvantages: electrical and mechanical wear of the contacts occurs, it remains necessary to frequently service them, the energy of the spark drops when the rotation of the knees of the motor shaft accelerates, as well as when the engine is started. The system proposed by the author is more perfect and reliable: it retains all the advantages of a powerful battery ignition (spark energy - 12-20 mJ, discharge duration - 1.5-2.5 msec) over capacitor ignition (4-10 mJ and 0.3 -0.5 msec) - traditional for light motorcycles, including "Zida". In addition, contactless ignition with a Hall sensor ensures normal sparking when the battery voltage drops to 6 V. The circuit is somewhat overloaded - one two-channel switch could be used or two output coil. But there is a silver lining: if a spark "disappeared", for diagnostics, a "parallel" ignition branch serving another cylinder is at hand, and VAZ spare parts are always on sale both in the city and in the roadside store (which cannot be said about "Izhevsk"). Simplicity and relatively low cost of rework is another advantage. Our resolution: the presented development is worthy of a "five plus" rating.

The motorcycle "Izh Jupiter" is one of the brightest pages of the domestic motorcycle industry. He decorated the streets of Soviet cities and villages for several decades.
