Change the oil to Solaris. How to replace engine oil and oil filter on Hyundai Solaris? Choice of engine oils

Question: how to change the oil in the engine? - periodically worries every motorist, and especially those who are going to do it for the first time and are afraid of mistakes in relation to their car. And even though the technology of work is almost universal, the desire to hedge and be confident in each of your actions is quite natural, therefore, in this article we will not consider some abstract process, but we will study a very specific step-by-step instruction for changing the oil in a Hyundai Solaris engine (Hyundai Solaris), volume 1.6 liters.

What is required?

  1. 4 liters of Shell Helix UIltra 5W30 engine oil. You can, of course, take another brand, but since the manufacturer recommends exactly the above, we will take it.
  2. Oil filter.
  3. A set of keys and heads.
  4. A container with a volume of more than 3.5 liters for draining old oil.
  5. Oil filler plug gasket.
  6. Rags.
  7. Funnel.
  8. Oil cleaner remover.

Do-it-yourself oil change in the Hyundai Solaris engine? - sequencing.

1. Drive the car into the hole. Mute the engine and wait for it to cool down a bit. It should be warm, but not scalding.

2. Using a 17 spanner spanner, loosen the drain plug clamp. Clean it of dirt with a rag.

3. Place a previously prepared container under the drain hole, completely unscrew the plug by hand and carefully (the oil is very hot!) Drain the used oil. Try to wait until it is completely drained. It's at least 10 minutes!

4. You can take this period of time with a useful thing - visual diagnostics of the aluminum sealing washer of the drain plug (the latter must first be thoroughly cleaned). If you find significant deformation or wear on it, this part will have to be replaced.

5. If everything is in order, return the plug to its original place and tighten thoroughly.

6. Wipe the crankcase cover to remove oil spills.

7. Move the already used container under the oil filter and unscrew the latter by hand or using a puller by turning it to the left.

8. Dismantle the oil filter.

9. Thoroughly clean the seat of dirt, dust and, of course, oil.

10. Apply a small amount of engine oil (about 1/3 of its volume) to the O-ring of the pre-purchased filter and tighten it by hand until the O-ring contacts the bracket.

11. Turn the installed oil filter an additional ¾ turn to seal the connection.

12. Fill the engine with oil through the oil filler neck and close the last cap.

13. Turn on the ignition and let the car run for a couple of minutes at idle. At the same time, check that the emergency (insufficient) oil pressure indicator goes out a couple of seconds after starting the engine.

14. Inspect the oil filter and drain plug for leaks. If necessary, tighten the filter and plug (just turn off the car first!).

15. Switch off the ignition and use the dipstick to check the oil level in the reservoir. Top it up to normal.

On this question, how to change the oil in the engine, you can forget for the next 7-8 thousand kilometers. The manual says 15 thousand km, but do not flatter yourself, this is under ideal conditions

Video.

I have heard many times about the high quality of Hyundai / KIA original oil filters. I always wanted to get one, and preferably after a good run. And now, finally, it became possible to check this very original filter, after running at least 10,000 km, on the previous generation G4GC engine.

The car, its entire life, while it was under warranty, was serviced by OD. After the expiration of the warranty period, I had the opportunity to dissect the filter with extreme maintenance.

As we can see, the filter is Korean-made, from the YoungDong factory, we are told about this by the round logo and the company name in Korean, as well as the letter Y:

There is one more official supplier of filters for Hyundai / KIA, this is Mann + Hammel, these filters are also produced in Korea, not Germany. Instead of a round logo, these filters will have the words Mann + Hammel Korea and an embossed W instead of a Y:

Well, let's get down to dismemberment 🙂

We remove the bottom of the filter from the body and the first, we come across an anti-drain or check valve:

I want to tell you that during the operation, it has not lost its elasticity at all, due to the fact that it is made of silicone, not rubber. The operation of this valve determines how quickly the oil reaches all, the most remote and upper places in our engine. If it works correctly, it prevents the oil from draining into the crankcase, if it “hardens”, it will accordingly let the oil drain freely.

It did not deform or collapse, and this tells us that it is assembled and of high quality filter material. There are cheap filter materials that simply fall apart from prolonged exposure to temperature and oil pressure. You can imagine what will happen if a piece of such an element gets into any oil channel of your engine.

Inside we see the Hyundai logo:

And so we got to the bypass valve:

It is pressed quite easily and without jamming. Its function is to maintain a constant pressure in the system, which may drop if it does not open on time. For example, when the oil is cold and has a high viscosity, or when the engine is at high speeds, as well as it opens, when the filter element itself is very dirty. With this, there are no problems here. In general, I liked the filter very much, high-quality components were used during the assembly and it pleases. It was important for me to find out whether it is possible to use the original filters, or whether it is worth looking for analogs. After this showdown, all my doubts disappeared by themselves.

The only thing I would like to see in the design of this product is a bypass valve of such a design, which prevents, if it is opened, the filtrate is flushed from the surface of the filter element itself back into the oil system. To understand what this is about, look at this picture, where I indicated with arrows the direction of the oil flow, washing the top layer of the filtrate, back into the engine, in case of opening the valve:

Filters with a valve located not on top, but on the bottom exist and there is even a patent for this design: www.freepatent / patents / 2240426. They are also produced in Russia, as well as a similar solution is used in some of its FORD filters. So Hyundai engineers have work to do

Thank you for your attention, good luck to everyone on the road!

According to the regulations for the maintenance of the Hyundai Solaris car, the engine oil in the car engine is changed every 15 thousand km or every 2 years. If the car is operated in special climatic conditions or driving style puts heavy loads on the engine, then it is recommended to change the lubricant twice as often.
Along with the oil, the oil filter and the drain bolt gasket must be replaced. The procedure for changing the oil and oil filter is simple and within the power of any motorist with average training. It is more convenient to work on a viewing ditch, overpass or lift. For work, you will need: engine oil, oil filter, drain bolt gasket, cleaning cloth, waste oil container, key 13, socket 17, special key for unscrewing the oil filter.
Hyundai Solaris is equipped with 1.4 or 1.6 liter power units, the oil change technology on these motors is completely identical.

Attention! This video is not official instructions and manuals for car repair.

Good afternoon, dear our subscribers, readers and just all curious! Tell me, have you ever changed the oil in a car engine on your own? Many people entrust such work to their company service station or a more experienced garage neighbor. And for someone it is humiliating to have a car and not be able to do simple work on their own. It will be even more interesting further, since the topic of our today's conversation is changing the oil in the Hyundai Solaris engine.

How to change the lubricant yourself - a detailed algorithm

The frequency of changing the lubricant in the engine according to the manufacturer's statement,. The rules should be adhered to because this way we can extend the service life of the power unit, which will take place before the next overhaul. In order to carry out a replacement, you need to look out for a place equipped with a viewing hole or a flyover lift. It is best to do this immediately after the engine has cooled slightly, but is still warm enough, and the lubricant itself is in a thin state.

Hyundai Solaris can have a power unit of 1.4 or 1.6 liters, but the technology itself will not change from this. So, for the convenience of motorists, detailed instructions on how to do it as competently and efficiently as possible will be presented below:

How to choose the right oil for Solaris

Another question that worries the owners of this model is what kind of oil to pour into the engine so that it functions properly? The manufacturer indicates that the desired option is a lubricant grade. Despite this, much depends on the conditions in which the machine will be operated, primarily climatic. For the northern regions, a thinner oil is required, as otherwise you will constantly experience problems with starting. If the region is not among the coldest, then it is better to buy exactly the products that the manufacturer advises.

For those who plan to master the technology of how to change the lubricant in their own garage, without resorting to the services of experienced specialists, we inform you that the whole procedure will not take you more than 30 minutes of time. In addition, what will be required to buy the engine oil itself with a filter element, you will also need a container for disposal, several clean rags, a 13 wrench, and a special wrench that turns the oil filter out. Not every car enthusiast has it, so worry about it in advance.

It remains to consider which manufacturers' products are best used for Solaris engines. According to the technical book, the oil recommended by the manufacturer is Shell Helix Ultra 5W30. However, other products are also quite suitable, as long as they match in viscosity and tolerances. It can be Liqui Molly Special Tec series grease, Mobil 5W30, Castrol Magnatec 5W30, Hyundai Premium Gasoline, as well as a number of other grease names. Interestingly, in terms of volume, the oil system should hold 3.6-3.7 liters, and in practice, often no more than 3.3 liters fit. Obviously, this is due to clogging of the system. We have already published a number of materials on the topic of how to flush the engine and why it should be done.

So, friends, we were able to make sure that changing the lubricant in a Hyundai engine with our own hands is not at all as difficult as it seems at first glance. To do this, we examined in detail the algorithm of actions and other features. For those who find this insufficient, they can find videos on the relevant topic on the global network to make the process more visual. Read us in the next issues, it will be interesting and useful. While!

In modern society, a personal car is no longer a luxury, becoming a necessary item of daily life. But in order for the vehicle to serve for a long time, and not become unusable after the expiration of the warranty period, the motorist must monitor the safety of its systems, mechanisms and individual parts. One of the most important procedures for maintaining the working condition of a car is a periodic oil change in its engine. The Hyundai Solaris subcompact car, popular on the Russian market, is no exception.

But in what cases is it necessary to change the engine oil in the engine of this vehicle? What technical fluids are suitable for lubricating a Hyundai Solaris engine? How to properly prepare for the procedure for updating the oil in the system of this machine? What is needed to change the oil in a Hyundai Solaris engine? What can happen to a car as a result of an untimely replacement? Let's talk about this in the article.

When is an oil change required?

According to the regulations for changing the oil in the Hyundai Solaris engine, it is recommended to renew the engine lubricant every 10-15 kilometers of active run - that is, once a year. However, in practice, replacement of the technical fluid in the vehicle system is required more often.

The reasons for the need for an expedited replacement are the following circumstances and nuances:

  • Poor quality or reduced level of used motor lubricant;
  • Features of seasonal temperatures and terrain;
  • Car owner's passion for extreme driving;
  • The emergency state of the constituent elements of the vehicle's propulsion system.

Signs of obsolete or unsuitable motor lubricant in Hyundai Solaris are listed below:

  • The liquid begins to exude a soot odor;
  • The lubrication becomes non-uniform, and upon closer inspection, clods of dirt and metal shavings are recognized;
  • The original color of the oil changes to a dirtier and darker one;
  • The technical substance becomes thicker and fatter, the original viscosity of the oil is lost.

In turn, if it is necessary to find out the exact level of engine lubricant, the oil is checked using a dipstick. This meter of the amount of technical substance is removed from the control hole of the Hyundai Solaris engine, wiped with a napkin or rag and again immersed in hot oil. After that, the dipstick is removed again, and the motorist can study its performance. If the indicator is equal to or less than the permissible minimum, therefore, the motor lubricant is not enough and it is urgently necessary to replenish its missing percentage.

It is important to consider that the reason for the need for an urgent oil change in the Hyundai Solaris engine may be a leak resulting from a traffic accident or system breakdown due to the high degree of wear of individual parts. In these cases, not only the renewal of the motor lubricant is required, but also a full repair of the vehicle. If the breakdowns are extensive, the car enthusiast should contact a Hyundai Car Service Station.

Which oil to choose?

First of all, the car owner needs to know how to choose the right oil for the Hyundai Solaris engine. When choosing a technical fluid for the vehicle in question, it is recommended to pay attention to the following indicators:

  • Service life of motor grease. It must be at least 12 months old;
  • Oil viscosity and composition;
  • The compatibility of the substance with the engine of a particular vehicle.

At the Hyundai plant, when a Solaris car is produced, Shell Helix Ultra SN with a viscosity of 5W20 is poured into the engine of the car. Ideally, a car enthusiast should continue to use this particular technical fluid for subsequent replacements, since it is the most suitable for Hyundai Solaris in terms of its characteristics. Castrol and Liqui Moly with the appropriate viscosity, as well as synthetic oils 5W30, 10W40, 5W40, can be distinguished as acceptable alternatives.

Many motorists prefer the original engine oil from the manufacturer - Hyundai Premium with a viscosity of 5w20. This engine lubricant is suitable for many engine modifications of this model, in particular for Hyundai Solaris 1.6 and Hyundai Solaris 1.4. The total volume of technical fluid required for filling is from 4 to 6 liters.

Stages of changing the oil in the Hyundai Solaris engine

The sequence of actions for a motorist in preparation for an independent oil change in a Hyundai Solaris engine is as follows:

  • The location of the vehicle on an overpass or any other horizontal surface;
  • Preparation of the necessary tools and materials, namely:
    • Canisters, buckets or other containers for draining the disposed technical substance;
    • A technical syringe, watering can or funnel, for pouring fresh motor lubricant;
    • Pliers, wrenches and screwdrivers;
    • Clean rag rags or machine napkins
    • New parts for replacement if necessary. A car enthusiast may need: a new sealing washer (ring) for the Hyundai Solaris drain plug, a filter and sump gaskets.

Safety technology:

It is strongly not recommended to start draining the used lubricant from the Hyundai Solaris engine while the unit is in an operating and heated state. Technical liquid heated to a boil can cause severe burns to the hands of a motorist. Therefore, before changing the oil, the Hyundai Solaris engine must be turned off and given time to cool completely.

  • Placement of a container for the disposal of waste liquid under the drain hole;
  • Removing the vacuum in the vehicle system. For this, the hood rises and the control filler hole is released;
  • Removing the mud shield from the Hyundai Solaris pallet;
  • The sump cover is dismantled and cleaned of oil and dirt residues;
  • The oil drain plug is unscrewed, after which the waste liquid flows freely into the disposal tank;
  • The oil filter is being replaced;
  • The oil drain plug is screwed back;
  • On the roof of the Hyundai Solaris pallet, the gasket is replaced, the cover is mounted in its original place.

After draining the waste fluid, it is recommended to carefully examine the consumable. If a large amount of burning and scale is found, it means that the engine is thoroughly dirty, and the Hyundai Solaris engine needs flushing. It is not recommended to carry out this procedure on your own - it is more expedient to contact the service station. But how to fill in new oil yourself if flushing is not required? To fill in fresh fluid, the control hole plug is unscrewed and the lubricant level meter is moved to the side. The oil is poured until it reaches the edges of the filler neck. After that, the plug is fixed in its original position, and the Hyundai Solaris engine is started at idle speed for 15-20 minutes. During this run, excess air escapes from the system, however, additional topping up of engine lubricant may be required.

Consequences of untimely replacement

Changing the oil in the Hyundai Solaris engine with your own hands is a rather routine procedure, so some motorists neglect it. However, such a frivolous attitude to the state of vehicle systems can lead to serious consequences, in particular:

  • To wear and irreversible damage to individual engine parts. If the lubricant is not viscous enough or too thick, it will not be able to neutralize soot and oxidation products. Thus, a favorable environment appears for the development of corrosion processes;
  • To cranking the connecting rod bearings. Increased friction and overheating of these parts leads to an increase in pressure on them;
  • Failure of the turbocharger components.

All these possible car breakdowns require subsequent serious repairs, and therefore - impressive financial expenses. In order to avoid this unpleasant phenomenon, you should timely update the engine lubricant in Hyundai Solaris.
