Reviews of Hyundai Getz (Hyundai Getz). Hyundai Getz owner reviews Hyundai Getz pros and cons

At the moment, there are many reviews about the Hyundai Getz. Sometimes it is extremely difficult to find objective statements about the car in this list. Moreover, as always, there are certain nuances that some refer to as pluses, and others as minuses. Finding objective assessments is quite difficult. Below is the general information that was compiled based on the results of surveys of a large category of car owners

Positive aspects of Hyundai Getz

Reliability and build quality

This is a very reliable vehicle. Breakdowns are very rare and usually very minor. As an example, they often cite the fact that the first thirty thousand kilometers of the Hyundai Getz radiator leaks. But this can be ignored, because this drawback is almost imperceptible and it can be eliminated within an hour in a car service. Aside from complaints about the radiator, people are generally quite happy with the build quality of the car.

The car is unpretentious to fuel. If you fill it with unusual gasoline, then the car will behave quite calmly.

Rear seats

The car has folding rear seats. This allows you to transport quite large loads in the car.

Inexpensive service

Hyundai Getz can please its owner with relatively cheap service. Even official service centers carry out quite cheap maintenance, no more than fifty thousand rubles.

Negative sides of Hyundai Getz

The car's ground clearance is very small. It is imperative to install protection, which reduces it by a few more centimeters. Smooth surfaces tolerate lack of protection, but we all know the condition of Russian roads. Thus, no one is safe from hitting an uneven surface.

Suspension

The Hyundai Getz has a very heavy suspension. Considering that it is also quite low, the comfort when driving from it becomes even less. The car literally "jumps" on all irregularities. Low speed makes you feel all the unevenness of the asphalt.

Controllability

This vehicle has average handling. However, if the road is flat, all this is not felt at all. However, in the case when the road has already changed ten years without repair, it is necessary to steer constantly.

Profile and body

The car has a low profile. Thus, if the driver is tall, then it is quite possible that he will be uncomfortable in such a car. Hyundai Getz body is not long enough. This leads to an even greater decline in handling.

Outcome

For Russian roads, Hyundai Getz is clearly difficult to fit. On the other hand, if you have experience driving fast on bad roads, then the car may interest you. The faster you drive, the less Hyundai Getz reacts to uneven surfaces.

H yundai Getz was exclusively front-wheel drive, and the design of the drive turned out to be extremely simple. So the choice is only between automatic transmission and five-speed mechanics. And if the CV joints and drives are quite reliable here (at least, up to runs of 200-250 thousand), then the gearboxes are all with surprises.

If you hear that Getz manual transmissions were unsuccessful only before restyling, then do not believe these stories. M5AF3 boxes are not particularly good on cars of any model year. There are no problems with the design - after all, this is the legacy of Mitsubishi with minimal changes, but the performance is lame.

In the photo: Hyundai Getz 5-door "2002-2005

Mainly the bearings fail. The release bearing often begins to howl with runs of slightly more than 60 thousand, and an untimely replacement is fraught not only with the basket petals and damage to the shutdown fork, but also damage to the box body. The next in line are the bearings of the input and output shafts. On the bulk of the machines, only by a hundred thousand run, the bearings of the input shaft are already making noise. The secondary shaft starts to make noise later, but it starts almost inevitably, so if you repair the manual transmission, then you need to change everything.

Due to oil contamination, both the differential and the gears of the box suffer. If you tighten it up with repair, then often there is nothing to repair: a jammed differential will break the body and the main pair.

The reason for the rapid wear lies not only in the low quality of the original parts, but also in the quality of the oil seals: the box is leaking, and the oil level must be monitored both. The owners of cars with 1.6 and 1.4 liter engines were especially unlucky: they have their own boxes, different from boxes with Accent and other Hyundai, so spare parts are in short supply.

The only reliable way to repair the box is to overhaul with the installation of new bearings. To reduce the cost of repairs, "used" parts are often used, since the original shafts and gears are not that expensive (5-8 thousand rubles per shaft), but the price of a complete manual transmission bulkhead can easily turn out to be higher than the price of a car. The standard repair option is to install a new shaft with used gears, for example, from a more or less live Accent box. Then (in the case of 1.4 and 1.6 liter engines) everything is assembled into the old box body. Boxes for engines 1.1 and 1.3 liters can be left with the "accent" case. Such repairs cost 12-30 thousand rubles, which is quite acceptable for the majority.

In addition to problems with the manual transmission, there are also troubles with its drive. It initially does not please with particular clarity, but with age, the quality of switching deteriorates due to stretching of the cables, breakdowns of the rocker ball joints of the stage and simply wear of the ball of the joint. Wear of the axle of the longitudinal wishbone and wear of its hinges also greatly affects the clarity of the shifting. In advanced cases, you have to change the lever itself, since it is still supplied as spare parts and costs less than a thousand rubles.

In the photo: Hyundai Getz 5-door "2005-2010

The cables also cause a lot of trouble. Their price is quite high, about 5,000 rubles, but you can get by with a little blood: basically the shock-absorbing thrust bushings in the engine compartment wear out. These parts will cost less than 500 rubles, but to replace them, you will have to remove the cables, and look for the bushings themselves in the catalogs for Mitsubishi Lancer IX (part codes 2460A108 and 2460A109). By the way, bearings and synchronizers are also suitable from Mitsubishi manual transmissions, but which ones, experts keep at the heart.

If you have a glimmer of hope that the automatic transmission is more reliable than mechanics, then I will disappoint you. In principle, the boxes of the KM family of the A4AF3 / A4BF2 series on engines with a volume of 1.3 and 1.4 liters and boxes of the A4CF1 / A4CF2 series with engines of 1.4 and 1.6 liters are considered quite reliable. But in practice, closer to a hundred thousand mileage of the release box until 2008, and especially the boxes of pre-styling cars until 2006, start to be capricious. More recent automatic transmissions run much longer before the first problems appear, at least 180-200 thousand kilometers, and individual copies of the boxes can feel quite normal with runs over 300.

From a constructive point of view, there are a minimum of shortcomings, and there are obvious weaknesses or not, or they appear with high mileage. But the A4AF3 box was reworked during the transfer of production to Hyundai facilities, and the adjustment of production affected the quality. A small resource of solenoids and sensors, overheating due to a weak cooling system and associated oil leaks have a bad effect on the operation of the automatic transmission. We can assume that most of the first releases of automatic machines of all series have already undergone medium repairs, at least with the valve body repair, and for those who like to drive "to the last", the box has undergone a complete overhaul.

In addition to the problems associated with a drop in oil level, oil starvation and valve body malfunctions, there are a number of unpleasant features. For example, a weak differential and blocking linings for the gas turbine engine, which, during aggressive driving, can wear off to the adhesive layer after hundreds of thousands of mileage. And external oil lines have unsuccessful corrosive clamps, which sometimes leads to oil leaks.

The older A4AF3 / A4BF2 boxes, which are mainly found on cars before 2007, are Mitsubishi's heritage, produced by Hyundai.

The weak point in the mechanical part is the Shell / Kickdown drum. Under heavy loads, it breaks its splines, and the drum clutch pack usually burns out first.

There are also many problems with the Direct Clutch drum. He breaks the 046 sleeve, especially on pre-styling cars with A4AF3 gearbox, which leads to a serious oil leak, and usually the oil pump is also damaged.

With excessively active movement, the Overdrive hub bearing breaks early enough.

Typical valve body malfunctions - failure of valves 364420, damage to the wiring and speed sensors.

Breakdowns of drums, unfortunately, happen often, and with runs of about 200 thousand, they will almost certainly manifest themselves even in more or less accurate drivers. The 046 bushing fails less often than the Shell drum, but the consequences are much more expensive.

The newer automatic transmission A4CF1 / A4CF2, which appeared after 2005, began to be widely used on Getz only after 2008. Its early releases, which can be found with a 1.6 liter engine on dorestyling, are a lot of hassle. But the versions after 2008 have practically no problems in the mechanical part. Damage to the valve body of this box and its electronics are relatively budgetary, although the box is still not particularly durable and trouble-free. Before major repairs with replacement of the blocking lining of the gas turbine engine, most of the solenoids and revision of the clutches and the pump sleeve, on average, you can count on 200-250 thousand kilometers. The main mechanical problem is the early failure of the oil pump due to poor oil filtration and rare oil changes. Also, the line pressure solenoid fails regularly during operation at a standard oil change interval. The harbinger of his replacement is the blows when the D and R modes are turned on.

In the photo: Hyundai Getz 5-door "2005-2010

It is also worth checking the solenoid wiring, which is quite fragile here and is very afraid of vibrations (change the engine and gearbox mountings in time). A block of shifting solenoids rarely fails completely, but the chances are still far from zero. The price, in general, is ridiculous - about 10 thousand rubles for the entire "bed", but very few people change them, and if you have already changed the linear solenoid, the wiring is intact, but there are still blows, then check it at the stand.

To improve the operation of this box, it is worth installing an external oil filter. With him, she becomes noticeably more reliable.

The general rule is not to buy cars before restyling with automatic transmission, especially cars with a 1.6 liter engine. If you need an automatic machine, then see cars with A4CF1 / A4CF2 boxes after 2008 with a 1.4 liter engine. This will be a relatively reliable and budget option.

Buying even a later version of the A4AF3 / A4BF2 automatic transmission is not a good idea. With the standard mileage for these cars, the box is almost certainly already left and repaired. It is cheap to repair, but the resource until the next repair will be small, even with careful maintenance.

Motors

The budget of the car hardly affected the quality of Getz engines. Motors of the G4E series were developed in Mitsubishi, and they have practically no generic problems. SOHC engines with 12-valve cylinder heads were installed mainly before restyling, G4HG engines with a volume of 1.1 liters and 1.3-liter G4EH engines are rare and mainly on very old cars. After restyling, a 1.4 DOHC engine was added to the engine lineup, which made up a pair of a 1.6 liter engine (1.6 G4ED and 1.4 G4EE series, respectively). These motors are very reliable.

A cast iron block, a timing belt drive, hydraulic lifters and a fairly massive piston group provide a good margin of safety for any operating style. But the resource is not at all unlimited, and due to the design of the piston group, a small oil appetite is already present closer to a hundred thousand mileage. It increases greatly during overheating due to the death of the valve stem seals and leaks in the engine oil seals. In addition, the crankcase ventilation system is unpretentious, which is why the engine constantly "sweats". Usually, after 200 thousand mileage, the engine comes to a state where it is better to sort it out due to oil consumption. And if you roll another 60-70 thousand, then you will have to make a full-fledged "capital" with the installation of a repair piston and full restoration of the cylinder head.

The belt should be renewed every 60 thousand kilometers or even earlier. In cold regions, on 16-valve engines closer to 150-180 thousand mileage, it is imperative to replace the chain connecting the camshafts and its dampers.

Hydraulic compensator

price for original

535 rubles

And yet, in the process of operation, many small troubles can arise, and the older the motor, the more trouble. Floating rpm due to a dirty throttle and idle speed regulator on old engines is a common thing, they need to be washed. A dirty intake is also not uncommon. With runs of more than a hundred thousand, you can encounter a knock in the timing due to failures of hydraulic compensators, which are not entirely successful here (for lovers of budget repairs, Ina compensators from VAZ stand here). To the credit of the motors, the problem is mainly connected with a rare oil change or its poor quality.

With runs of more than one hundred to one and a half thousand kilometers, there are regular failures of coils, high-voltage wires, sensors and wiring. Good reviews about reliability usually concern cars with mileage of up to 100, maximum 150 thousand kilometers. Further, the motor is still running, but it begins to demand more and more insistent attention. Apparently, the Korean manufacturer did not particularly count on a greater resource.

In the photo: Hyundai Getz 5-door "2002-2005

After about 150 thousand mileage, it is worth seriously diagnosing the catalyst. The chances that it will start "dusting" are quite high, and the engine will not last long after that: the already soft enough piston rings will not tolerate this. By the way, the motor is also very sensitive to the quality of the air filter installation, and its design allows for installer errors.

In the photo: Hyundai Getz 3-door "2005-2010

You should not chase SOHC motors: in operation they are not cheaper than 1.4 and 1.6 liter motors, and the resource of larger engines is generally slightly higher. The difference in the price of repairs is insignificant, as is the difference in the price of the contract unit.

Summary

Lured by the low cost of parts, many conclude that the Hyundai Getz will be just as cheap to operate in general. But no - if in service it is cheaper than other foreign cars, then not much. The problem is that the reliability of the car was inherent mainly with low mileage. Up to 150 thousand kilometers, the car hardly asks for investments, but then small and not very problems begin. And if the cars were lucky with the engines, then with the manual transmission and with the automatic transmission of release before 2008 - not very much. And the body in our climate rots noticeably, and if you do not take decisive measures, it does it quickly enough. In the end, everything comes out not so cheap, especially if you do not do small work with your own hands, but rely only on services and bring any malfunction to breakdown.

Goetz has enough pros, but think hard before buying this car. And don't forget about thorough body diagnostics.

Expert opinion

Hyundai Getz has a number of advantages that distinguish it from other subcompact cars: budget price, relatively cheap service and the absence of serious sores. This is a great option for any driver who does not pursue large dimensions and, at the same time, does not impose increased demands on the driving qualities of a car.

For some reason, Hyundai Getz has long established a reputation as a purely female car. In fact, this is just a stereotype. According to our practice, almost half of the owners who buy and sell these cars are men.

It is very difficult to find a “Korean” in perfect condition, since the car has not been produced since 2011 and has already managed to live a busy life. First of all, there may be problems with the bodywork. The minimum that awaits you is chips, scratches and abrasions. In this case, you are even lucky. Another common problem is the suspension, in particular the stabilizer struts. And this is not the fault of the design of the car itself, but of the owners, who in most cases postpone the trip to the service station to the last. At the same time, all problems are easily and budgetary eliminated.

In the photo: Hyundai Getz 5-door "2002-2005

Despite the fact that Hyundai Getz is an “old man” in the market, the demand for it is consistently high. And both on the machine and on the mechanics. Just yesterday, two buyers came to our branch in Rostov-on-Don at once, and both wanted to buy a 2010 Hyundai Getz using mechanics.

Hatchback prices are highly dependent on the region of sale. If we consider the restyled cars of the last year of production with the most popular engine 1.4 (97 hp), then the average price in Moscow and the region for cars with automatic transmission is 320 thousand rubles, with manual transmission - 300 thousand rubles. But offers on the Krasnodar Territory market are much more expensive: with automatic transmission - 350 thousand rubles, with manual transmission - 320 thousand rubles.

Owner reviews

Getz is the first car in our family. Bought mainly for his wife. Up to 60,000 km were served by the officials, then he began to do it himself. Last time, the cost of consumables (oil, filters, candles) amounted to about 4,000 rubles, of which most is oil - I fill in MOTUL and the cabin filter.

Despite the run of 102,000 km, the machine does not fail neither my wife nor me. Getz is what you expect and subsequently receive in return for the money spent!

All units and assemblies are reliable and time-tested. No variators, robots and other crap that complicates operation. The salon is spacious enough, in front with my height (186 cm) you can fit without problems, although then only one will sit comfortably in the back. The quality of the paintwork is acceptable, the head light is excellent. The main criterion for evaluation is a happy wife driving a Getz.

P.S. This car, I believe, has a good idea - the idea of \u200b\u200ba reliable and simple car.

Review of Hyundai Getz 1.6 on the mechanics of 2003 onwards

Video review

The car is great, I'm not overjoyed. I use it for about a year, without problems both in summer and winter. Comfortable and spacious enough for its size, it is comfortable to sit in the car. I have a complete set. The salon is quite roomy.

Average consumption. In terms of driving performance: the suspension is stiff, but it stands on the road perfectly, good cross-country ability in winter, almost nothing clings.

Cons: short gearbox, rear passengers shakes like a goat due to the light weight of the rear.

Dmitry, review of Hyundai Getz 1.4 manual transmission 2007 onwards

I write about reliability and prices primarily because the machine deserves it. At the moment, the mileage is 89,500 km, and I remember only a couple of visits to the store for spare parts. There was only one serious breakdown in 85 thousand: in winter the high-pressure hose on the power steering burst, the price of the issue with the replacement work, making a new hose according to the model and new slurry in the power steering - 1,950 rubles. Nothing else was repaired or changed in the car!

When buying a 1.6 engine paired with a manual transmission, they bribed me. Switching gears on is a pleasure, very clear. The gear ratios were selected without failures, however, for city driving, but on the highway in 5th gear at 110 km / h already 3000 rpm. The fourth gear is very short, it would be more authentic, and the fifth could be taken out further, then it would have been more economical on the highway. But on the whole it suits me.

And how, living in Siberia, not write about cold starts. I have a new battery, but with a small starting current, it freezes at -25, so it stands at -10 C at auto start. Twice I was sadistic and started the car without warming up at -32 after a day of inactivity, on a warm battery from an apartment with 7 "zips" both the first and the second time it started up.

Salon. It makes no sense to talk about the size, the class of the car itself implies that there is nowhere to walk the elephant. The only pleasantly surprised rear seats: if in the Priore I sit down by myself with difficulty, and even resting my head against the ceiling, then in Goetz without any problems or any discomfort.

The backrests of the rear seats are tilt-adjustable. Finishing materials without question. The seats are easy to clean, the plastic is not scratched. There are no crickets. Only in cold weather the 5th door creaks a little. But the stove is rather weak. Not to say that I once froze, but the 82-degree thermostat makes itself felt during short trips around the city.

Review of Hyundai Getz 1.6 (106 HP) with mechanics 2007

Appearance. Initially, Goetz never liked externally, considered him too ordinary. After a year, I probably just got used to him, and he even seems cute. Of the minuses - the front bumper has a large overhang, you can strike curbs and paddle snow with it. The ground clearance of 130 mm is very small, when fully loaded, it is very difficult to drive to the dacha, in winter you also cling to the pits with your protection or your lip.

Inner world. There is no noise - a fact. Everything is heard, especially noisy from behind, the noise comes from the arches. The interior decoration is ascetic, the plastic is hard, the buttons and switches are unpretentious. The seats are comfortable, the lateral support is good, the driver's seat cushion is rather short, after 3 hours of driving, I really want to stop and get out.

Driving performance. We probably need to start with the fact that the Getz is a car for two at most, and this is manifested not only in the ergonomics of the cabin, but also in driving performance. The car as a whole is playful, and there are no problems ahead of the track, but this is all true for a car with only two people. As soon as you need to take a ride to the dacha, and there are four adults in the car, the agility melts, and the 1.4 engine ceases to suffice, and if you also turn on the condo and throw things into the trunk, then there is a pipe.

The suspension is very stiff, on a flat road this, of course, is a plus - there is no buildup, but on bumps and potholes it responds in the steering wheel and fifth point. It drives well. Power steering allows you to turn the steering wheel with one finger in the parking lot, but at speed it becomes heavier. The zero on the steering wheel is quite clear, the steering wheel strives to return to it quite quickly, the car does not tire with "steering" on the track.

Review of Hyundai Getz 1.4 (97 hp) with automatic transmission in 2008

Inside "Gesha" is empty as a drum. The plastic is oak, but it never bothers me. Salon without Asian, simple, spacious, square and practical. With good visibility. Due to the configuration, the right power window and the right mirror regulator are sorely lacking. As well as an air conditioner. There is no cabin filter, maybe you can add it, but I did not ask this question.

In the rain windows sweat, you have to twist the heater for heat. In winter it gets warm for a long time, but it doesn't bother me much.

Outside. From certain angles it looks like norms. From others, it looks out of proportion (because of the huge front doors). The rest is square and not pretentious.

Exploitation. The machine is used for different needs. I also chase her into the tail in the mane, but always with proper care and timely replacement of consumables. Dalnyak went to the Crimea. And so Tver, Tula, Belgorod, Peter - these are the usual distances several times a year. Many trips around Moscow and the region.

Due to its size (less than 4 meters in length), parking in Moscow is convenient. Also, Getz carries various different differences, which, with the seats folded down, quite fit themselves. In general, the device is not whimsical. Strong body and durable, non-kill suspension.

Review of Hyundai Getz 1.1 (67 HP) MT 2010

When choosing a car, you need to take into account a large number of nuances. First of all, this is a budget, the limit of which should not be exceeded. It is also important who will use the car and the person's driving experience, his wishes: body type, color, interior and, of course, technical condition.

When purchasing your first car, it is best to take something small, with acceptable fuel consumption. A car that is easy to drive and run over for an initial experience. Just such a car can be Hyundai Getz!

Hyundai Getz is one of the most successful cars in the history of the Korean company Hyundai Motor Company. This is a compact hatchback introduced in 2002. Sold all over the world, except the USA and Canada, under various names.

Models with a gasoline engine are presented in Russia 1,3L (82 HP) and 1.6L (105 HP)... The gearbox is either a five-speed "mechanical" or a four-speed "automatic". After restyling in 2005, the exterior and interior of the car were changed. The engines were improved: gasoline steel with a volume of 1.1L (66 HP) and 1.6L (106 HP). And the 1.3-liter engine was replaced by a 1.4-liter with 97 hp.

The entry of this car model to the Russian market ended in 2011.

Advantages of the Hyundai Getz car

  • Any car has both positive and negative sides. Let's start with the positives.
  • If we consider the appearance of the Hyundai Getz car, then the first thing that catches your eye is graceful body shape... Its small size allows you to feel well the dimensions of the car. And this affects the ease of control, especially if the driver is not experienced. Also, due to its small dimensions, the car has a small turning radius and excellent visibility.
  • On the market there are various colors - from the usual silvery and white, to bright red and rich yellow.
  • When examining the interior, you can see that over the past 10 years, Koreans have gone aside. german standard... In the creation of the salon, actual materials of the current generation are used, which are distinguished by their quality, durability and pleasant appearance. The seat upholstery is also kept in perfect condition for a long time.
  • The interior is much larger on the inside than it appears from the outside. It is comfortable, it can easily fit five people, and the tilt angle can be adjusted at the backs of all seats. Each of them has its own heating system. The style is minimalist. It is equipped with a deep glove compartment, stove and electric window lifters. All doors have pockets.
  • One of the most important technical qualities is low fuel consumption - about 5-6 liters per 100 km.
  • The car is very stable on the road and holds up confidently even at high speeds. Differs in an easy move. The engine has very good acceleration dynamics. Distinct and smooth brakes that do not "jerk" the car when braking hard. Ease of control is also achieved due to the minimum free wheel travel.
  • From the point of view of economy, this car wins in everything: an acceptable price of the car itself, a small tax and an insurance fee. Thanks to its low fuel consumption, little money is spent on refueling. For the first three years, the car serves absolutely without problems and does not have to pay for repairs.

Cons of Hyundai Getz

Consider the negative aspects of Hyundai Getz, which, unfortunately, are not few:

  • And the first, most important and huge minus, which I would like to draw your attention to, is that the car starts in the literal sense of the word "Pour in" after three years! Everything breaks down with a short period of time (2-5 months). Candles become unusable, racks fly. Part by part, the entire chassis is crumbled.
  • Up to 100,000 km, the gearbox, regardless of whether it is an automatic or a mechanic, fails in 70-80% of cases.
  • The engine does not start at a temperature of -30 0 C. As a result, you will have to take it to a warm box, where it will start without problems.
  • The body has a significant problem of discoloration and rust. It rusts even though it is 90% galvanized. The starter starts to rust very quickly. Also, considering the dimensions of the car, you can pay attention to the fact that the trunk of the car is relatively small and only with the rear backs folded is 970 liters.
  • Have Hyundai Getz poor sound insulation, which creates discomfort for passengers and the driver, especially if you move along the highway at high speed. In addition, at high speeds, the car "blows" off the road, due to its light weight (950-1000kg).
  • Another disadvantage of the salon is lack of air conditioning... It will be possible to cool down in the cabin only due to fully open windows.
  • This car has a low ground clearance, only 135mm and it is necessary to buy a crankcase protection. But this purchase will cost around 3000 rubles.
  • Some drivers may find the suspension harsh. Pits, especially on the "Russian roads", are quite strong. This also creates a kind of discomfort when driving and driving.

Outcome

Hyundai Getz is a perfect example of the ratio price quality... It will be an excellent purchase for those drivers looking for their first car! The low price of the vehicle itself, cheap to operate and does not require repair at first. But the best option would be to sell it immediately after 2.5-3 years of use and not wait until something starts to fail.

The Hyundai Getz is the ideal vehicle for your first driving experience. Small dimensions and ease of control will allow you to quickly get used to it and operate it on city roads without problems and accidents. And due to the appearance of the car, not only girls, but also men can drive it.

Hyundai Getz - a five-seat B-class subcompact hatchback manufactured by the Korean concern Hyundai Motor. Due to its compact size, low purchase cost and economy, this model has been in steady demand among motorists from the very first days of its appearance on the market. Even 8 years after the end of production, this car remains quite in demand in the secondary market. Most owners of Hyundai Getz speak positively about this machine and recommend it for purchase. But how good this kid really is, and what his weaknesses I will tell you in this article.

A bit of history:

For the first time Hyundai Getz was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2002. This model was the first car to be developed by Hyundai European Center. The prototype for this car is the Hyundai TB concept, presented by the Koreans a year earlier at the Tokyo Auto Show. The main highlight of the novelty was the impressive volume of the cabin with rather modest external dimensions. The car is presented in two body styles - a three- and five-door hatchback. Despite the fact that initially Goetz was positioned as a "global model", it never appeared on the markets of the USA, Canada and China.

In 2005, the model was restyled, after which its name was changed - GETZ II. In the course of updating the exterior, the grille, front and rear optics have undergone changes. The interior has also changed. A newer steering wheel, a different design of the dashboard and center console appeared here. Also, the engine subframe and exhaust system underwent modernization, and a stabilization system began to be offered as an option. In addition, the power of the top-end units was increased, and in the CIS they began to sell cars with engines of 1.1, 1.4, and a three-door body design. And on the European market, a limited version of the car, Getz Cross, appeared on sale. The termination of production of the Hyundai Getz was announced in 2009, and its place in the lineup was to be taken by the Hyundai i20. Despite this, in most countries, including the CIS, the model remained on sale until 2011.

Problem places and ailments Hyundai Getz with mileage

The body paintwork, traditionally for budget cars from Korea, does not differ in its wear resistance, which is why certain body parts were regularly repainted. To find today a Hyundai Getz in a completely native paint is not an easy task, therefore, when choosing, first of all, you need to look for the presence of putty and look at the quality of repair work. The body does not differ in its resistance to corrosion, as a result, sills, arches and the trunk lid rot down to holes without timely intervention. The edge of the roof and the hood of the car are also prone to corrosion (chipped places are very rusty). It should be noted that the metal here is of good quality, however, the lack of galvanizing and proper maintenance over the years leads to significant problems.

The underside of the car is also poorly protected, therefore it is strongly recommended to carry out additional corrosion treatment. Rust can also appear inside the car - in the presence of moisture (penetrates through the seals) under the carpet in the passenger compartment and trunk, over time, metal and welds begin to corrode. You can find rust under the hood, here, first of all, corrosion affects the seams of the glasses and the engine shield.

Among other troubles, it is worth highlighting the not the best quality of the protective plastic of the front optics (it is overwritten and cloudy), the fragile plastic of the bumpers and its mounts (in winter it breaks even with a slight impact). It is impossible not to mention the weak door seals, as well as the unreliability of the trunk lock and door stops (they serve 100-150 thousand km). The only thing that pleases is the low cost of buying new parts. Claims can also be made against the wipers. Firstly, the pre-styling versions do not have an intermittent mode of operation. To eliminate the drawback, you will have to install a wiper switch module from a restyled car. Secondly, the trapezium of the wiper blades and the axle in the rear wiper housing are prone to corrosion, and with rare use they can jam. For prevention, you need to process WD-40. In addition, the leashes of the wipers quickly rust, this of course does not affect the speed, but the general appearance of the car spoils. Before buying a car from your hands, make sure that the trunk opening cables and the gas tank flap are working (they will turn sour over time).

Power units

The choice of Hyundai Getz buyers was offered four gasoline engines - 1.1 (66 HP), 1.3 (65 HP), 1.4 (97 HP), 1.6 (102 HP) and a diesel unit with a volume 1.5 (82-101 HP). In the timing drive, almost all motors have a belt (16-valve ones have a chain that needs to be changed closer to 200,000 km). According to the regulations, the belt should be replaced once every 90,000 km, however, it may not last that long (it breaks on a run of 65-80 thousand km).

The main complaints about gasoline internal combustion engines are caused by unstable idle (cleaning of the throttle and idle speed regulator is required), jerking and jerking during acceleration (the problem is caused by an unsatisfactory state of the ignition system and the fuel filter). The spark plugs should be changed every 15-20 thousand km, since if they fail, the resource of the oxygen sensor and catalyst decreases. A weak corrugation of the exhaust system and poor tightness of the internal combustion engine ("sweats" with oil) can also be attributed to ailments of engines. Over time, the valve cover, oil seals and the crankcase ventilation system begin to leak.

For cars with mileage under 150,000 km, hydraulic lifters (suitable from VAZ produced by Ina) and a catalyst require attention. Closer to 200,000 km, an oil burner appears, which will progress with increasing mileage. At the first signs of a problem, valve stem seals, rings and current oil seals should be replaced, otherwise by 250,000 km you will have to fork out for the "capital" of the engine. Particular attention should be paid to the engine mounts, as with severe wear they can drop the internal combustion engine onto the wheel drive. Owners of a car with a liter unit need to monitor the cleanliness of the cooling radiator and the temperature of the internal combustion engine, since the cylinder head jars when overheated. Of the operational disadvantages, it is worth highlighting loud operation and vibrations, but the manufacturer writes off this to a feature of this series of internal combustion engines (G4E).

Diesel

Hyundai Getz with a D3EA diesel engine is an infrequent guest in the secondary market, since it was not officially supplied to us. Of the weak points of this unit, it is worth highlighting the capriciousness of the fuel equipment, in which injectors and injection pumps are most often disturbed. The washers under the nozzles also cause problems - they burn out, because of this, the engine quickly becomes overgrown with carbon deposits. Often, the control unit (ECU) also fails, in the presence of failures in which the speed can hang. In cars in which the oil intake mesh in the sump has never been cleaned, closer to 200,000 km, the engine begins to experience oil starvation (leads to cranking of the crankshaft liners). It should be noted that if there is a problem, the warning lamp on the instrument panel does not always work when the oil pressure drops. After 200,000 km, the valve stem seals (increased oil consumption) and the turbocharger require attention. You may also need to replace the cylinder head (covered with cracks).

Transmission

Two gearboxes were available for the Hyundai Getz - a 5-speed manual (M5AF3) and a 4-speed automatic (A4AF3 / A4BF2 and A4CF1 / A4CF2). Despite the fact that both gearboxes have Japanese roots (developed by the company) they are not particularly reliable. In mechanics, bearings are most often failing. For example, the service life of the release bearing is only 60-80 thousand km. Untimely replacement of a part is fraught with accelerated wear of the basket petals, damage to the switch-off fork and the transmission housing. The bearings of the input and output shafts, which can begin to make noise after the first hundred thousand kilometers, are enough for a little longer.

In addition, the gearbox is sensitive to the cleanliness of the lubricant - working with dirty oil accelerates the wear of the differential and gearbox gear. In advanced cases, this can lead to early replacement of the unit (if the differential is jammed, the main pair and the gearbox housing are damaged). Leaking oil seals of drives can also lead to significant damage - the oil level in the box decreases. Of the less significant troubles, it is worth highlighting the not very reliable gearshift drive, in which over time the linkage of the stage wears out, the thrust bushings and the cable stretches.

The situation is no better with the reliability of automatic transmissions, especially in pre-styling versions. An early failure of the machine is most often caused by a modest resource of solenoids and speed sensors, as well as an unsuccessful cooling system and lubricant leaks, which adversely affect the automatic transmission. Spools and wiring in solenoids are not particularly reliable. In case of hard operation, already by 100,000 km of run, problems with the differential, blocking linings of the gas turbine engine and the bushings of the torque converter pump (turn over) are possible. On pre-styling cars, under heavy loads, the Direct Clutсh drum (bushings break) and the oil pump quickly give up. Lack of proper maintenance leads to early failure of the valve body, clutches in packages, differential bearings and Overdrive drum. To extend the life of the automatic transmission, change the oil every 40,000 km and install an external oil filter.

Reliability of suspension, steering and brakes Hyundai Getz

This model is endowed with a suspension traditional for this class. MacPherson struts are used on the front axle, and a beam on the rear. As for the reliability of the undercarriage, there are no significant claims to its durability. In addition to the struts and stabilizer bushings (they run 30-50 thousand km), the original shock-absorbing struts are quickly rented out, which may need to be replaced after 60,000 km. But the thrust bearings can last more than 100,000 km. The rest of the parts, depending on the operating conditions, serve 100-150 thousand km. Most rear suspension parts are inherently permanent and may require attention only due to careless driving. If you regularly overload the car, the shock absorbers fail prematurely and the springs sag. Another disadvantage of the undercarriage is the tendency of its parts and attachments to corrosion. This nuisance not only complicates the repair process, but can also cause additional costs. So, for example, if the bolt souring, which attaches the silent block of the front lever to the subframe, you will have to cut the subframe.

The steering system uses a rack and pinion mechanism. Most instances have power steering, less often versions with MDPS electric booster are found. In cars without an amplifier (stock versions), while driving on a bumpy road or when turning the steering wheel, the steering column may creak (all connections are required). In versions with an electric booster, the cardan of the worm shaft often fails, with the wear of which a noticeable backlash appears. In addition, such machines can be annoying for the electrician and sensors. The versions with power steering do not differ in the reliability of the connection of the pipes and the pump seal. On a mileage of 120-150 thousand km, it becomes necessary to adjust the engagement of the gear and the steering rack (play appears), and replace the steering shaft bearings (crunch when the steering wheel is turned). For cars with power steering, the rail, as a rule, does not require attention of 150-200 thousand km., With an electric power steering, repair of the mechanism may be required in the first hundred thousand of run. The tips of the steering, with careful operation, can last about 100,000 km, thrust - up to 200,000 km.

The main complaint about the Hyundai Getz brake system is the tendency of its parts to acidify, as a result of which the wheels can wedge. To avoid possible problems, servicemen recommend lubricating moving parts when replacing pads. In addition, when replacing the front brake pads, the pressure springs must also be replaced. If you put back the old ones - the pads can knock.

Salon

The decorative panels of the interior, as befits a state employee, are made of hard plastic, which over the years fills the interior with all kinds of sounds. Compounding the problem with acoustic comfort and lack of sound insulation. For the same reason, with the arrival of frost, an ice crust forms on the roof, and condensation accumulates under the ceiling sheathing. Despite the low cost of finishing, the salon has turned out to be strong and resistant to aging. The only thing that can strongly betray age is a plastic steering wheel (in the absence of a protective sheath, it quickly becomes covered with scratches). Another disadvantage is the tendency of the front seat frame to corrosion. There are also complaints about the seat filler, which sags over time under the dimensional drivers.

Since Hyundai Getz does not have complex electronics, there is nothing special to break here. From what may eventually need to be repaired, it is necessary to select the fan of the climate system (it starts to howl). To restore normal operation, the fan motor must be sorted out and lubricated. Over the years, the power window drive also fails (if there is rust on the glass guides, it stops working). Also, the vitality of the seat heating button and power windows does not differ.

Outcome:

If you are looking for an inexpensive, but at the same time practical little car for everyday use, then the Hyundai Getz is a good option for purchasing. As for the reliability of the car, it does not cause significant problems with proper care, the main thing when buying is not to run into a completely rolled copy.

If you are or were the owner of a Hyundai Getz, please share your experience, indicating the strengths and weaknesses of the car. Perhaps your feedback will help others to choose a used car.
