The whistle is strong under the hood. Causes and culprits of whistling in the engine compartment

Drivers always nervously perceive various external noises and sounds that may occur in the vehicle. Sometimes the whistle when the car is moving does not bode well. But sometimes it can indicate some kind of serious damage to the motor. Let's look at what are the reasons for the whistle and how terrible it is in general.

Generator belt

The alternator belt is one of the most common causes of bad sound. In this case, a whistle appears when the vehicle is moving, that is, under load. However, after accelerating or thrashing, it can pass. Also, if a whistle is heard when the car is moving and disappears when braking, then the reason for this phenomenon is simple - belt slippage and its severe wear.

It is easy to solve this problem on your own. In this case, you do not even need to call in to the service station. Simply buy a new alternator belt and replace it. However, in the event that the car is under warranty, it is best to contact a car service. Also, on some foreign cars, the generator mount is quite complicated. Therefore, not everyone can take it off.

If such a whistle when the car is moving is manifested in rainy weather or after driving through a puddle, then the reason may be even more commonplace - the belt gets wet. In this case, you just need to wait until the part is dry. After that, the whistle will go away on its own. Don't worry about this.

Clutch problem

In modern cars, clutch slippage can be a problem. Most often this is observed in cars that are very actively used in a city with a difficult driving regime: frequent stops, start-ups, sudden increases in speed, etc. In this case, the grip suffers greatly. After all, it is subjected to heavy loads when stopping and starting. It is almost impossible to fix the clutch whistling problem on your own without specialized knowledge and tools.

However, you can try to determine if the whistle when the vehicle is moving is actually due to this problem. For this you need:

  1. Place the car on a small hill. This will create pulling power. This way you can put a lot of load on the motor at the start of the movement, which will allow you to hear the whistle better.
  2. Now you need to turn on the first gear and move off with slow pressing on the gas pedal. This allows you to recognize the moment when the vehicle starts to whistle.
  3. If there is a whistle when the car starts moving, that is, while grabbing the clutch, then this speaks precisely of its malfunction. To be sure, you need to conduct several more similar tests. If in doubt, you can try to get under way from second gear. This will increase the load on the clutches and the whistle will be heard more clearly.

Hearing a similar sound from a node at speed is unrealistic. Therefore, if the whistle is clearly manifested when starting off, but completely absent when driving at speed, then most likely the problem is precisely in the grip.

Is repair possible?

It will have to be repaired only at the service station. Even with experience, it is difficult to understand modern gearbox and clutch systems. Therefore, it is better not to waste time, but to entrust such work to specialists. More often than not, you don't have to repair, but change the clutch. However, for foreign cars, such a solution can cost a lot of money. For example, the whistle when driving a Chevrolet Cruze could be removed by replacing the entire clutch system. So they write in some autoforums. However, this does not mean at all that a similar problem is common with these machines.

Engine support cushions

Even modern motors are subject to strong vibrations when the vehicle is moving. How does it manifest? Vibration loads are borne by the engine mountings, which are hard rubber products. Thanks to these details, vibrations are damped, and the driver in the car practically does not feel them. The airbags also absorb the loads associated with impacts on the chassis of the vehicle. Such influences do not significantly affect the engine. However, pillows can deteriorate over time. One of the characteristic signs of this phenomenon is the whistle while the vehicle is moving. It can also occur if at least one of the pillows is not properly tightened.

How do pillows change?

Replacing the pillow is a complicated procedure. For this, the engine is completely removed and suspended on the winch. Then the pillow is unscrewed, examined and, if necessary, changed to a new one. After that, the motor is put in place. Moreover, it must be set very precisely, down to millimeters. If the installation of the power unit is not very accurate, then when cornering or when driving on a bad road, vibrations will occur in the engine. This makes it clear that replacing the pillow yourself is almost impossible. This should only be done by professionals.

Timing belt

Go ahead and consider the timing belt as a possible cause of whistling and rattling. Note that the belt itself cannot whistle, but the whistle can come from the rollers and tensioners. Determining that the sound comes from the timing belt is quite difficult. At a minimum, you can start the engine and just listen to where the belt is. If the whistle is pronounced and emanate from this particular node, then you need to follow to the service station. After all, you can't do anything on your own. As already mentioned above, the problem here is not in the belt itself, but in the system, and nothing can be achieved by simply replacing the timing belt.

Other possible causes of whistling when driving

The whistling under the hood can be caused by the power steering. Especially often, the problem occurs with domestic cars. Indeed, here the power steering system is not made in the best way. The air conditioner drive or the coolant pump drive can also whistle. The half-shafts can rattle and make sounds if they move freely in the CV joints. However, in this case, the car should not only whistle, but also twitch when starting off.

And in general, many elements under the hood of a car that accidentally unscrew or hit during a sharp set of speed, hitting a pit, or a sharp start can make an unpleasant sound. Completely unpredictable contacts can cause a car whistle, and sometimes even specialists at a service station cannot identify them. Quite often, the whistle comes simply from the friction of some parts that do not play an important role in the system. Sometimes objects can get under the hood, which, when vibrated, emit a characteristic sound, etc. Therefore, before starting an extensive diagnostics at a service station, it is advisable to look under the hood yourself and check if there are any third-party items that could create a whistle.

What's the bottom line?

The whistle in the engine cannot be left and hoped that it will disappear on its own. Most likely, if you leave everything as it is, then a malfunction of any system can lead to more serious problems with the motor in the future. Eliminating whistling early on will avoid high engine repair costs. Therefore, be sure to listen to the motor. If you find any strange whistle, then try to determine more precisely where it comes from. And if you cannot do this, then go to the service station. Let the professionals deal with this.

However, some car owners are not bothered at all by various third-party engine noises. They successfully drive cars that not only emit an unpleasant whistle, but also twitch when driving, poorly accelerate and brake. What can we say about some kind of whistle, which few people will pay attention to! Still, the vehicle is worth checking out.

Many motorists are faced with the fact that there was a whistle when starting the engine to a cold one. What is the reason for this effect? Those who had a "classic" Zhiguli in operation immediately know where to look for the reason.

The reasons

For old cars, a whistle on a cold engine meant that the water pump drive or the pump itself had become unusable. For newer cars, there may be several reasons for this effect.

It should be noted that this malfunction is associated with engine mechanics, and there is no need to climb into the electronic control unit. Therefore, consider where a motorist needs to look for a malfunction if he wants to repair a vehicle with his own hands:

  • Drive belts.
  • Rollers.
  • Water pump.
  • Generator.

Debugg

When the root causes are predetermined, you can proceed directly to the troubleshooting process. We stock up on time and tools. Now that everything is assembled, you can start. It is worth being prepared for the fact that details are required.

It is worth noting that for each specific brand and model of the car, the design features of the repair and the location of the parts will be different.

Drive belts

Usually, whistling in the engine, especially during cold starts, is due to belt drives. Thus, a stretched belt slips along the pulley, which creates a characteristic squeak. Often, this effect is characteristic of the timing belt on newer cars. There are two ways to solve the problem.

The first way is to tighten the belt (only for cars with a belt and tensioner pulley). To do this, you will have to dismantle the protective casing that covers the timing, and then, using a tension roller, tighten the drive. Sometimes it happens that the belt is in a very worn condition and needs to be replaced.

The second way is to replace the belt. Replacing the timing belt is a difficult and time-consuming task. Therefore, it is recommended to carry out this operation at a professional car service. Many motorists, unknowingly, when replacing the drive belt, knocked down the valve timing, which subsequently entailed severe consequences for the power unit, such as overhaul.

For different car manufacturers, the timing of replacing the timing belt will be different, but the average indicator is that the element must be replaced after 40-50 thousand kilometers.

The process of replacing the timing belt is quite simple, but at the same time, it is difficult to perform without knowledge of the vehicle design, as well as the repair methods. So, consider the main provisions for replacing the timing belt:

  • For the beginning, TMV marks are set. This is necessary in order not to knock out the valve timing when replacing the belt.
  • The camshaft or shafts are secured to the pulleys against rotation. There is a special tool for carrying out this operation, but as practice shows, motorists carry out fixation by improvised methods.
  • Next, we loosen the belt by unscrewing the tension roller.
  • If necessary, on some car models, the crankshaft pulley is removed.
  • We remove the belt from the seats.
  • Usually, the assembly is carried out in the reverse order. For many American cars, there is a specific timing belt installation sequence. Therefore, it is recommended to study the manuals before replacing.

Rollers

Together with the timing belt, the whistling sound can be caused by a worn tensioner roller. This is because the belt slides over the part, creating a whistling sound. Car rollers are changing along with the timing belt.

On some cars, the rollers can be replaced without removing the drive belt. It is worth remembering that when changing an element, it is necessary to adjust the tension of the drive belt, because if this is not done, then very soon the whistle will appear again, and the belt will be subject to increased wear.

water pump

Many Lada owners are familiar with the whistle that appears after starting the engine to a cold one and disappears after warming up. This effect was caused by faulty pump parts. In both older and newer car models, the whistling effect can be caused by the water pump.

As with the timing belt, the whistling sound can be caused by wear on the water pump belt. On old cars of domestic production, the pump is driven by the crankshaft pulley, while the timing chain works on a chain installed directly in the block. For newer cars, the pump is a member of the timing belt drive.

Consider this option for a malfunction only for the old generation of vehicles. To eliminate the malfunction, you will have to determine exactly where it comes from. To begin with, you can change and tighten the drive belt. Tension adjustment is usually done with a generator.

Before dismantling the pump and understanding the internal elements, you should pay attention to the condition of the drive pulley. During operation, this part could deform and bring a lot of problems. Therefore, we first examine it for deformations and position.

If the whistle has not disappeared after changing the belt, then we go even deeper. In this case, it means that the whistle comes from inside the structure. What can make such a sound? Depending on the design features of the car model, a worn bearing or a water pump drive shaft may whistle.

For most car models, this means replacing the water pump. But, for old GAZ models, such as Volga 24 and 3102, as well as the 53rd Lawn, in order to save money, you can directly change the bearing itself and the shaft. But, not all even the most experienced motorists are able to perform this type of operation, therefore it is recommended to contact a car service.

Generator

Another automotive element that can cause whistling under the hood of a vehicle is the generator. As with the water pump, it is worth examining the drive belt and pulley. Unlike the pump, the generator has a weak shaft, which can be slightly deformed, which will disrupt the position of the pulley.

In turn, the belt will not only slip, but wear out quickly. Therefore, before climbing directly inside, it is worth examining whether there is any external damage to the product.

In the generator itself, the whistle may be caused by worn bearings. So, they can slip on the seat or the drive shaft slides along the inside of the bearing, which causes metal friction, which can be heard as a whistle.

To eliminate the malfunction, it is necessary to dismantle the generator from the vehicle. Disassembly of the part should be carried out strictly clearly in the service manuals for diagnostics and repair. Further, when the product is disassembled, it is worth examining the condition of the shaft, bearings and seats. If faults or damage are found, such parts should be replaced. Do not change anything unnecessary.

If the car enthusiast has not carried out repairs of such products or the sequence of actions seems complicated, it is worth contacting a car electrician. Specialists can inexpensively replace the bearing, or repair generator parts. For example, replacing the shaft with a supported one that is in good working order.

Conclusion

The causes of whistling in the engine are considered. This effect is usually caused by worn parts. To eliminate the trouble, it is necessary to replace one of the elements: belt, tensioner, pump or generator parts. Not all motorists are able to do the process on their own, so it is recommended to contact a car service.

The motorist is driving calmly and suddenly hears an almost mystical whistle. Why can there be a whistle under the hood? There may be several reasons. And methods of eliminating them too.

Although possible, spray with a belt tensioner. On the other hand, it may not slip, and the roller whistles when vibrated.

In some cases, the whistle under the hood appears in cold weather. However, after a good heating of the car, the whistling under the hood stops.

Sometimes at low rpm (1500-2500) a characteristic whistle under the hood may appear. it appears when you drop the gas, but when you pick up speed, the whistle under the hood disappears.

In this case, the alternator belt has nothing to do with it. This suggests that in the near future it will be necessary, because in the cold the grease hardens, which is why it starts to whistle, and after warming up it stops.

An option to combat the whistle under the hood in winter, if the cause of the whistle under the hood is frost, then you can spray the VD-40 pulleys. Still, it will have to be replaced next winter.

Another reason for whistling under the hood can be a torn regulator membrane. It just needs to be replaced and the whistling under the hood will stop.

To make sure that whistles under the hood, screw the oil filler cap. Then, if the whistle disappears, the EGR valve. In this case, one will need to be replaced.

According to some motorists, the whistle under the hood does not especially threaten the car, it only scares the driver himself. Most often, you just need to tighten or replace the alternator belt.

However, if this does not help, then it is best to contact a specialist who will competently identify the cause of the whistle under the hood and tell you what to do with it.

Unpleasant and incomprehensible sounds under the hood can occur for completely different reasons. There are quite frank variants of breakdowns that are very easy to diagnose. But sometimes even specialists have to spend quite a lot of time on diagnostics when it comes to rather complex and extraordinary problems. A whistle under the hood when starting off occurs when certain rotating parts fail, lose lubrication, or get certain other problems. But for a more accurate diagnosis, you will need to fully investigate the engine compartment of the car, drive the car into a hole and get more important information about what exactly broke in the car. You should also pay attention to the ringing under the hood when hitting bumps or when starting to move, when the engine breaks down into small vibrations. These problems can signal rather unpleasant breakdowns.

It is worth noting that the ringing and whistling under the hood will always come out and show themselves in the near future, so it is better to prevent this moment and go to the service station for repairs. But it is interesting that even at the station it is far from always possible to identify the problem and receive qualified service. Therefore, if you have such an opportunity, it is better to do a little research yourself and get answers to all the questions that arise. Self-examination in a comfortable pit or on a lift can often find a mount that is guilty of unpleasant sounds. This will help to quite simply solve the problem and not overpay for the services of specialists. Of course, such an examination will not help in all cases, since often the problem is associated with internal details hidden from the eye of the beholder. In such a situation, you will have to disassemble some elements of the car to get to the bottom of the truth. So, let's look at the main possible problems.

Alternator belt - how does it whistle, and what to do if it breaks down?

Probably one of the most common reasons for whistling under the hood when starting off and when the engine is under load is the whistling of the alternator belt. We all became witnesses of this strained whistle, which is heard shrilly from under the hood of the car at the moment of loading. The whistle usually goes away after acceleration or running. The reason for this is the slippage of the worn belt. The procedure is as follows:

  • visit a car store and buy a alternator belt that is completely suitable for your car and is an original or high quality analog version;
  • release the generator mount, which is responsible for tensioning the generator belt, slightly move the structure to freely remove this product from the installation site;
  • install a new belt and tighten with a metal lever in the form of a large screwdriver or other tool, but do not overtighten the belt;
  • check the tension, this can be done using the forums for your car model, as well as using special books and vehicle operating manuals;
  • tighten the fasteners and try to start the car, make sure everything is working properly, the battery light on the instrument panel goes out after starting the engine.

With the help of such solutions, you can quite simply get rid of problems with the car on your own and not spend money on service station services. But we warn you that with modern foreign cars, this service option may turn out to be unacceptable. The problem is that these vehicles are not designed for such repairs, alternator mounting systems can be completely unpredictable and not amenable to self-service.

Engine mounts are a common problem in your car

The vibration of the engine is quite strong, even if we are talking about a modern technological power unit. Almost all vibration is taken over by the power plant pillows. These are hard rubber products that dampen vibration and absorb the main influences. They also make it possible not to transmit blows to the body and chassis directly to the power unit. If one of the pillows is not properly tightened or if it fails, there may be a whistle, bounce or ringing. The solutions are as follows:

  • carry out visual and functional diagnostics of the power unit pillows in order to identify all the problems in the presence, this is done in the same way as diagnostics of silent blocks in your car;
  • then check all the mountings of the pillows, pay special attention to the lower mounts of the power plant, which usually ring when releasing the installation and fasteners;
  • it is also worth making sure that the rubber working parts of the cushions are intact in order to obtain information about the performance of the engine cushions installed under the hood of your car;
  • the next step is the selection and purchase of high-quality factory or analog parts for repairs, this will help replace non-working elements and remove problems with the car;
  • after replacement, it is worth checking and diagnosing everything again, since replacing the pillow does not always remove the sounds that you initially fought with during the repair work.

It is worth remembering that it is better to change pillows at the service. To do this, you will have to hang the engine on a winch so that it does not fall off the remaining mounts. After that, the pillow is unscrewed, its visual inspection and replaced with a new one. It is important to set the engine correctly to the millimeter, otherwise vibrations on the body and problems with a sharp turn of the car to one side cannot be avoided. It is better to entrust the work with pillows to professionals.

Clutch is a frequent source of whistles and chatter

Slip clutch is a common problem in modern cars. Our mode of operation of transport is rather complicated; in cities, cars have a hard time. It is the clutch that suffers especially from the urban travel mode, which constantly overheats and has to suffer from continuous use. Clutch problems are difficult to fix on your own, but you can identify them as follows:

  • install the car on a small hillock to create an effort when starting off, in this case you can put more load on the engine and hear the ringing or whistling better;
  • then turn on the first gear and try to get under way as slowly as possible with a little pressure on the gas pedal, this will allow you to easily recognize the moment when the car starts to whistle;
  • if bounce and ringing occurs at the moment when the clutch starts to work, it is worth conducting a few more tests, if these moments are not connected, then this is not a clutch;
  • if in doubt, try to move in the same position from second gear, so the load on the clutch will be higher, you can add more gas and listen to the work of the mechanisms;
  • at speed, it is almost impossible to hear problems in the operation of the clutch, so it is better to check these mechanisms directly at low speeds and in the process of starting.

The clutch will have to be repaired at the service station. Even with some experience in plumbing, it is very difficult to understand modern clutch and gearbox systems. Therefore, it is easier to entrust the work to specialists and not waste your time. The most reasonable solution for domestic cars is to replace the clutch in the kit. For many modern foreign cars, this process will be too expensive and will require huge costs. So the owner will have to make a decision based on the budget.

Timing belt rollers and other problems under the hood

Ringing, squealing, rattling and whistling can occur for other reasons. It is best to diagnose everything one at a time, carefully considering each possible culprit of the problem. In this case, you can get to the bottom of the truth quickly enough. But with a chaotic approach, such problems are very difficult to identify - it will seem to you that you have missed something important or overlooked. It is worth considering the following possible reasons:

  • gas distribution system - the timing belt itself does not whistle, but the rollers and tensioners can emit various unpleasant sounds, including screeching and ringing, as well as a number of other problems;
  • power steering is also a fairly common cause of ringing and whistling under the hood of a car, especially on domestic cars, where this system is not made very well;
  • the air conditioner drive, as well as the coolant pump drive - consider carefully all the parts in which the belt drives are installed and there is rotation;
  • it is quite possible that certain parts of the engine compartment are stressed during movement, which causes bounce and ringing, these can be completely unpredictable contacts;
  • the axle shafts can rattle, which move freely in the inner CV joints, but in this case, when starting off, you will also feel other troubles, such as twitching of the car.

You should always consider the problem as a whole. It is best to pay attention to the fact after which the ringing or whistling began under the hood of the car. If this happened after the repair, you should go to the specialists who did the repair work. Most likely, something was not tightened or installed incorrectly. If the ringing appears after hitting a pit, it is important to carry out a high-quality diagnosis of the entire chassis and steering. We also offer to look at the elimination of the resonant sound of the intake pipe on the GAZelle (ZMZ-406):

Summing up

High-quality vehicle repair is a difficult task for the car owner. Most likely, the car will not be able to function normally if everything is left without inspection and repair. The ringing and whistling will surely show themselves in the near future, and you will have to spend a lot more money on repairing the problem that has arisen than on restoring machine parts today. It is better to react quickly to emerging problems and not wait until they turn into real troubles. One of the best options today is a trip to a service station to diagnose and identify problems with your car.

You can independently conduct a qualitative study of the vehicle and get information about what parts are causing the problem. Most likely, even with a cursory diagnosis, you will be able to understand which parts of the power plant or peripheral equipment cause an unpleasant ringing or whistle. But as the trip continues, completely unpleasant scenarios may arise. Breaking belts or pillows can be extremely costly. It is better to fix problems today, paying relatively little money for it. Have you ever had problems with an incomprehensible whistle from under the hood?

Many faults in the car can be identified by the sound. When there are some kind of third-party noises in the form of rattling, howling or whistling, then this may signal a breakdown of one of the car's units. Some malfunctions are quite easily eliminated along with accompanying symptoms in the form of annoying and nasty sounds. But there are certain signs of breakdowns that appear most often. Most often, a whistle is heard when starting the engine, which can be caused by a number of factors. At the same time, such unpleasant sounds can be with an already running motor. Next, we will talk about the reasons for such phenomena and how to eliminate them.

Engine whistle when starting and running

It is always nice to know that your car is fully functional and will not cause inconvenience at the most inopportune moment. However, this is not always the case, and many car owners are faced with a number of manifestations of failure of some parts of the car. This makes people doubt their "iron horse", and such a car will obviously not add positive emotions. The most common signal of a breakdown is a whistle when starting the engine. Moreover, not only the owners of old cars, but also practically new ones that have recently left, face it.

A whistling sound can be heard during engine operation due to a number of different malfunctions in the car engine. Usually this is not as dangerous a sign as annoying. Although if the engine began to emit such extraneous sounds and the engine whistles more and more, then it is clearly impossible to delay the elimination of this problem. Some neglected faults can lead to costly repairs and a host of problems.

Belts

One of the main reasons for whistling when starting the engine is the belts of all kinds of drives in the engine compartment of the car. Poor tension and wear leads to the appearance of that very annoying whistle, which can increase with an increase in engine speed. Or maybe, on the contrary, disappear when you press the gas pedal. In any case, the sound made by the belts is very well audible and it is impossible not to notice it.

When a whistle appears, the first step is to check the tension of the drive belts

The first step is to check the tension of all drive belts. If any of them is weakened, then slippage is possible, which leads to a whistle when the engine is running. In this case, it is necessary to tighten the belt to the permissible limits in order to leave it with normal free play. Dirt and oil on the belts can also cause slipping. In this case, it must be thoroughly cleaned, and it is best to replace it with a new one.

The most common problem in terms of noise emitted is the alternator belt. A whistle appears when the engine is started and disappears when the engine speed rises, since the belt is in the same amplitude with the rollers and pulleys. This can threaten with insufficient battery charge and all the ensuing problems. It also happens that the engine whistles, and then suddenly stops making this sound. At the same time, no changes are immediately observed. And the reason for this may be a break in the alternator belt. After it breaks off, charging the battery while the engine is running stops. This is usually indicated by a special light on the instrument panel, but not all drivers notice it and attach any importance to it. Such inattentive car owners risk being left somewhere in a deserted place with a dead battery.

Another most common cause of whistling from the engine compartment of a car is. Here the consequences of ignoring the problem can be much more serious than in the previous case. The problem here is not so much in the belt as in the bearing, but you should definitely pay attention to this. A break in the timing belt may be followed by a major overhaul of the engine due to bending of the valves, which costs a lot of money. Therefore, it is necessary to react in a timely manner to all kinds of whistles during engine operation and not to bring the situation to extremes. This does not apply to all types of motors, but this problem is widespread.

In most cases, the whistle in the engine on a cold one is caused by the same belts. If it disappears when the engine warms up, then the reason is definitely in them. In the cold season, there is a chance that the grease in the alternator belt bearing may thicken strongly and the belt will not be able to rotate the alternator pulley, simply slipping. The solution to this problem may be to replace this grease and tension the alternator belt. But before that, you need to make sure that the alternator pulley spins by itself and does not jam. Therefore, as you can see, whistling on a cold engine is quite easy to eliminate.

If you hear some kind of a whistle when starting the engine and subsequently during its operation, then first of all pay attention to the tension of all belts in the car engine and check their condition. It is possible that some of them need tensioning or replacement.

Rollers and bearings

Other elements of an automobile engine that can make unpleasant noises are all kinds of bearings and rollers that are present in many motor assemblies. Often, in the event of a malfunction, they emit sounds slightly different from the usual whistle - a low pitched howl. This sound appears when the engine is running still at idle, but increases with increasing speed and immediately disappears or becomes much quieter. If you have determined that the engine whistles precisely because of these elements, then this can be "cured" by replacing the failed parts.

Intake system malfunctions

If a whistle is heard during engine operation, and you have already made sure that the reason does not lie in something else, then, most likely, some kind of malfunction has appeared in the engine intake system. It can be either the throttle valve, which periodically wedges and creates specific air turbulence, or the PCV intake valve, which is responsible for recirculating crankcase gases.

In the first case, the whistle during engine operation is eliminated by thorough flushing. But in order to clean it well from dirt, it is necessary to completely remove this unit, which should not be forgotten.

In the second case, the problem is a clogged intake PCV valve. Hot air from the crankcase cannot circulate normally because of this, which leads to the squeezing of oil through the seals due to excessively high pressure and the appearance of the very whistle when the engine is running. The real problem is "cured" by ordinary cleaning of this valve. To do this, you need to dismantle the valve, which is either on the valve cover or next to the air filter on the crankcase ventilation pipe. If the valve is metal, then all cleaning products that will not scratch the surface are perfect. In the event that it is plastic, then too aggressive aerosols and liquids should be avoided. After that, just put the valve back in place and the whistling will stop.

Turbine malfunctions

Many modern cars are equipped with turbochargers, which significantly increase their power and driving performance. But this is another unit in the engine, which can signal its malfunction with a characteristic and loud whistle. This can be caused by an air leak at the junction of the motor and the turbocharger. Usually, such sounds indicate the imminent "death" of this important detail. Most often, this malfunction occurs on vehicles that consume diesel fuel. Therefore, the owners of such cars know that the whistle of a diesel engine turbine does not lead to anything good.

What to do when a whistle appears from under the hood?

We have listed all possible malfunctions in which the motor and its components may whistle when starting the engine or when it is running. To eliminate most of them, the car owner does not need to have any special professional skills. Replacing many belts and rollers, tensioning them, and cleaning the intake system can be done on your own. But if you are not sure that you can cope with such problems, then it is better not to delay with them, but contact the car service to the masters of your craft and then you can avoid much more expensive repairs and a lot of unnecessary troubles that can overtake you by surprise.
