This power unit is equipped with an electronic multi-point fuel injection system and intelligent E-GAS and ISS systems that regulate gasoline consumption in order to save it. The engine used has a working volume of 1.5 liters (1497 cm3) and is capable of developing up to 102 hp. (75 kW) maximum power at 6000 rpm. In this case, the torque reaches its peak of 135 Nm at 4400 rpm. The engine is located transversely in the front of the car, has an in-line arrangement of cylinders, each of which has 4 valves.

The manufacturer offers only a front-wheel drive version of the sedan. Depending on the wishes of the customer, the FAV V5 is equipped with either a five-speed manual gearbox or a five-speed automatic transmission. With any of the available boxes, the car will be able to accelerate to 180 km / h, while the Chinese manufacturer is tactfully silent on the acceleration time to the first hundred on the speedometer. Our hero of the review was the 2014 2015 FAW V5, which is a budget B-class sedan. It is unlikely that anyone was surprised by the fact that it is budgetary. Plus, the car will be sold in our market. Since he has a frankly good, albeit not bright appearance, and the price tags are of interest, we consider it our duty to get to know the new product better.

We doubt that the sedan will quickly gain popularity and become some kind of overselling car on the domestic market. Nevertheless, it can and should be considered as an alternative to Russian cars.

Our review will focus on the study of the FAV B5 car. We will get acquainted with the appearance of the novelty, take a look at its salon, introduce you to the equipment options, and also do not forget to offer you information on technical characteristics for dessert. Of course, we will definitely indicate the prices, which, in our opinion, are one of the most important advantages of the car.

Exterior

Here the Chinese automaker went down the beaten track and took as a basis the ideas of various Japanese, European and Korean cars, which were discontinued in order to form the appearance of their own sedan. From the photo and video materials, even with an inexperienced eye, you can see a certain similarity between FAV B5 and the Volkswagen Polo. Especially the front and side. There are also some points reminiscent of Hyundai Solaris and Renault Logan. Maybe the Chinese sedan looks no better than the German mastermind, but clearly more attractive than the Korean and French ones.

The front end houses rather small headlamps, which taper at the junction with the false grille. It, in turn, is spiced with three chrome jumpers and complemented by a large manufacturer's logo, from a distance resembling a Subaru nameplate. The front bumper is rather small, neat, with nice lines and aerodynamic elements. It is the bumper with its air intakes and brick-shaped fog lights that most resemble the Volkswagen Polo.

The side view is also good, which is good news. A compact engine compartment, large side doors for the B-class, well-thought-out and inflated wheel arches, stylish exterior mirrors with turn signal repeaters, a straight roof make the car practical, but clearly not ultra-fashionable when viewed in profile. In any case, it's pretty good for a Chinese car.

The rear is distinguished by a large bumper, a high verticality part of the tailgate, as well as some hints of aerodynamic elements. All this is complemented by good and nice optics.

Let's just say that looks are far from the strongest side of FAW V5. For its design, buyers are clearly not added. Although the exterior cannot be called bad. Yes, everything is restrained, laconic and classical in Chinese. But still there is a certain old-fashionedness in the car. This design has not been used for a long time, since it has outlived its own. Even the new Lada Granta, with which, in fact, FAV B5 will compete, looks more interesting and modern.

The buyer will have a choice of seven body color options. Thus, the Chinese compact sedan can be ordered in black, blue, red, yellow, silver, gold and white enamel.

Now for the overall dimensions. They are like this in the car:

Considering that the car belongs to the B-class, such dimensions look too modest. But there's nothing you can do about it.

Interior

This is where the whole essence of the car's budget comes in. Let's face it, the interior of the car is bad. Not catastrophically terrible, but still there are much more shortcomings and shortcomings than advantages.

It is immediately evident that very cheap materials were used to create the salon. And the gaps between the dashboard elements, on the door maps and on the center console cause quiet horror. The plastic is hard, squeaky, the stitching on the chairs is uneven. It seems that the salon was not made by a factory, but by some underground company that does everything at once.

Ergonomics also leaves a lot to be desired. For example, the seats are too soft, there is almost no lateral support, even the buttons are pressed strangely. It is also impossible to adjust the seat belts, the position of the steering column is not adjusted. There are already doubts about whether the car is worth even the modest money that the manufacturer asks for it.

The driver will have to drive the car with a simple and slippery steering wheel, navigate the dashboard, which consists of three dials, the intensity of the illumination in which is regulated, which is already something. The center console has a standard audio system on its territory that supports radio, CDs, and also allows USB connection. The first row does not constrain in space, therefore, even people with a height of over 190 centimeters will be comfortable here.

In the finishing of the seats, artificial leather is used, which somewhat surprised with its quality in a good sense of the word. The back sofa is not bad, has a large pillow. But it is still oriented for two people, although the 2014 2015 FAW V5 is announced as a five-seater sedan. If you wish, you can sit in three, only the protrusion on the seat cushion itself, as well as the central transmission tunnel, will interfere with the person in the middle.

But landing on the back row is respectful. Although the doors are relatively small, they are large enough for their class. The cushion is placed high and the front row seat is well off the floor, leaving plenty of legroom in this opening. Plus, we note a high and even ceiling, which will be difficult even for a tall person to reach with the top of the head. Well, for that you have to jump at least.

The luggage compartment turned out to be somewhat ill-considered. No, by itself it has 420 liters of free space. But that's all. The rear row of seats cannot be folded. Consequently, the luggage compartment is limited to a standard volume.

Equipment

But in terms of equipment, the FAV B5 car managed to rehabilitate somewhat for its shortcomings in the interior. On the Russian market, the car is offered in two configuration options, which, by the way, are fixed. That is, it will not work to take the basic version and supplement it with some features of a more advanced configuration.

But already in the Comfortable version, which plays the role of basic, you will get:

  • two front airbags
  • safety systems EBD and ABS
  • electric power steering
  • basic audio system for 4 speakers

Price

We will immediately move on to the Russian cost of the car, since the prices in the homeland of the manufacturer are unlikely to interest any of you.

So, for the basic version of the model, be prepared to pay 390 thousand rubles. If you will want a leather interior, rear parking sensors and moldings, then pay extra twenty thousand more and give 410 thousand rubles for the richest set for the Russian market.

According to the passport data, the average consumption is 5.6 liters. Nevertheless, the owners' reviews indicate that in fact the consumption is about 7-8 liters in the combined cycle.

Conclusion

We can say that even a relatively attractive price of 400 thousand rubles looks overpriced for the 2014 FAW V5 car. Frankly, if the manufacturer would have reduced the cost, the number of people willing to acquire such a machine would have become much larger. There are too many choices in the budget sedan segment for a buyer to choose.

In general, FAW can be praised for the attempt. The design, although not modern, is still not bad, interesting, classic for a sedan. The salon, despite the poor assembly, still allows us to speak positively in terms of comfort. And the 102 horsepower engine, as it turned out, is quite lively and playful, allows you to feel confident on the track and when overtaking.

So in the end, you can give the car a C with a plus and hope that the next attempt of the Chinese automaker will be even better, and the pricing policy will be more reasonable.

The seats, as for a budget class with not a bad structure, in any case, the profile is visible, it is, albeit not so obvious, but still there. There is enough space behind, even the tunnel does not really interfere, the most surprising thing is that the interior is spacious, there is a lot of space. In general, I liked that the rear salon is not badly decorated in terms of ergonomics, even the roof that comes down does not affect the condition.

Specifications

If you compare the Faw V5 and its technical characteristics, as the flagship model of the concern, you will be pleasantly surprised. Let the engine be offered and one, but still the joint development with the Japanese, has borne fruit. As for the motor, there are no significant drawbacks, it is a quite resourceful and tenacious unit, the owners' reviews on Fav B5 are generally positive, with the exception of one, the comment of a person on the forum, like from the city of Shcherbinka, that the motor "knocked".

Based on other comments reviewed, this appears to be an isolated incident. One and a half liters of working volume allows him to generate about 102 "horses", not so much, but for such a machine this is above the norm. Judging by the information that was demonstrated by the passed test drive, the maximum speed is up to 180 km.

I have to pass the first hundred in 12 seconds, but I managed to get through only in 13.4 seconds, perhaps the engine is already a little "tired", or the fuel is not of high quality. The pair works not only "mechanics", but also "automatic", both gearboxes on 5-bands.

If you plan to buy a supported Fav B5, then first of all you will need to change the oil and oil filter. The oil filter is suitable from Russian cars, look behind the thread crowns. Also pay attention to the fuse, maybe there were some problems. So some argue that there were cases when the unit burned completely, damaging the entire line, up to the death of the battery.

According to the characteristics of the suspension, there will be many drawbacks, here the main role is played by the design features, which are not conscientiously thought out primarily for conditions in Russia. Fav showdowns never empty, every owner has been there at least once, hoping to find analogues of spare parts.

The Chinese budget FAW V5 sedan, according to the manufacturer and Russian dealers, is an excellent alternative to domestic cars. You can buy FAV B5 2014 in Russia for a price of 389 thousand rubles for the initial Comfortable configuration. Price the more saturated version of the Deluxe is 409 thousand rubles. In general, the FAW V5 sedan looks interesting, laconic and restrained, but ... boring and old-fashioned, and the car will not be bought just for its looks. There is no spark in the design, everything is somehow faded. Russian against the background of a competitor from the Middle Kingdom looks more juicy and bright.

The compact V5 sedan for Russian motorists is offered in two fixed trim levels... The initial Comfortable includes foglights, light-alloy wheels R14 with 175/65 R14 rubber, fabric seat upholstery, two front airbags, ABS with EBD, air conditioning, standard audio system, electric power steering, power windows for all doors, power mirrors, trunk lids and fuel filler flap, central locking with remote control.
The more expensive Deluxe trim adds body-colored moldings, leather upholstery and rear parking sensors.

As a result: the price of the new Chinese FAW V5 sedan is clearly overpriced, and the car is very interesting, with a classic appearance, a fairly comfortable interior and a proven technical component.
