“I came - I didn't get dust” - this Russian proverb fits perfectly with the latest generation of the Korean mid-size sedan Sonata, which is now sold in the Russian Federation. The famous model of the Hyundai brand returned to Russia almost five years after its departure, and in the seventh generation (LF) of the sample already in 2014, and even after restyling. Needless to say, the seventh "Sonata" is a novelty, if you do not mislead, you cannot call it. For the time being, it is supplied to the Russian market directly from South Korea, which, perhaps, had a good effect on the build quality, but had a bad effect on adaptation to the harsh road realities of Russia. Design

In terms of appearance, the Korean Sonata with the LF index is the same as the overseas. It looks very impressive - thanks to Chris Chapman of the California Hyundai Design Center. Whether Mr. Chapman will be able to go down in the history of the world auto industry, like Chris Bangle, who was engaged in the appearance of BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce, is anyone's guess, but one thing about him is certain: he managed to bring a certain amount of avant-gardeism into the image of the Sonata. That there are some sill moldings stretched up to the head optics between the fenders and the hood. And what does an ordinary car enthusiast who only dreams of a "new" Sonata say about the huge corporate emblem on the radiator grille or the fashionable touch panel for opening the trunk located at the top of the Hyundai logo again? Yeah, Chapman is great!

Design

The foundation of the Sonata LF is the YF chassis, inherited from its predecessor and subjected to a number of improvements. The changes affected both the settings of the springs and shock absorbers, and the geometry of the suspensions. In the course of modernization, the rear multi-link suspension acquired extended and reinforced lower arms (the thickness of the steel sheet increased from 2.9 to 3.5 millimeters), which better distribute lateral forces and allow more accurate kinematics adjustment. In addition, the steering column has become stiffer, and to improve the accuracy of the car's response to steering wheel turns, the EUR was equipped with a higher-performance processor. The steering program can be changed using the Drive Mode Select button.

Adaptation to Russian conditions

Despite the fact that the seventh "Sonata" is assembled not on the territory of the Russian Federation, but in South Korea, its price is significantly lower in comparison with many competitors of the Russian assembly. However, saving in this case is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, everything seems to be fine, the car is nice and roomy, the sound insulation is modified, and the manufacturer even allows you to pour inexpensive 92nd gasoline into the fuel tank, which is very important in our reality. But on the other hand, the model is not specially adapted for Russia, and its suspension settings are not the most suitable for bad roads.

Comfort

There are no serious complaints about the Sonata LF salon. By the standards of the class, it is spacious - there is enough space for people of any size, both in front and behind, where the floor is almost flat. The driver's comfort is ensured by the electric seat adjustment and the ability of the steering column to adjust for height and reach. Adjusting the driver's seat "for yourself" will not be difficult, especially since its configuration does not need a special fit. The driver's seat itself is quite comfortable - it is moderately hard, with developed lateral support and a rather comfortable headrest. If we forget about the textile, overly synthetic to the touch, seat upholstery in the basic version (although it is much more practical than leather heated in the sun), then everything inside the sedan is done conscientiously and with attention to detail. Only the one who, for whatever reason, needs to find fault with something, will be able to determine by the type of plastic whether it is hard or soft - praise for a well-chosen texture. The combination of different types of plastic is basically the same - however, in the door panels there is still more “tin”.


Great attention is paid to ergonomics. Hyundai decided not to reinvent the wheel and use classic solutions. The result is the following: almost all large keys are placed in 2 rows on the center console, for the sake of normal human logic. It is very convenient to turn on the steering wheel heating, which is adored in our country, as well as display the navigation map on the touchscreen of the media system. The dashboard in Sonata is strictly traditional, analog, but with a digital appendage between the "wells" of the speedometer and tachometer, as well as backlit bluish shade loved by Asian manufacturers. There are no complaints about its readability and information content. Remembering the rivals of the "Korean", one cannot get rid of the thought that his interior looks simpler than that of Kia Optima or Mazda6. Although in this regard it is not inferior to the same Ford Mondeo or Volkswagen Passat. His trunk is by no means ideal: despite the impressive volume of 510 liters, he is not at all happy with the quality of the finish and the height of the doorway. The luggage compartment contains a full-size spare wheel on an alloy wheel (in the basic configuration - on a steel one), and next to it is bare metal. Not solid somehow, but by the way - "for an amateur".


As a result of the last generation change, the proportion of extra high strength steels in the body has increased from 21 to 51%. In addition, the share of hot-formed steels, the number of additional reinforcements, the length (up to 119 m) and the number of adhesive joints increased, while the torsional and bending stiffness of the body increased by 41 and 30%, respectively. The Sonata LF's standard "safe" equipment is far from poor: it includes front and side airbags, curtains, Isofix mounts for child car seats, an Era-Glonass panic button, and stabilization systems with 2-stage shutdown (ESC) and Stability Management (VSM), Hill Start Assistant (HAC) and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). For an extra charge, parking sensors, light and rain sensors, a rear-view camera, cruise control with buttons on the steering wheel, blind spot monitoring and an electric parking brake are offered.


In the most affordable version, the car is equipped with a conventional radio tape recorder with MP3 support, 6 speakers, buttons on the steering wheel, wireless Bluetooth protocol and AUX / USB connectors for connecting gadgets. In the more expensive version, the radio is complemented by a modest five-inch display and rear video review. The more expensive trim levels include a full-fledged multimedia complex with an eight-inch touchscreen and Navitel navigation (alas, without displaying traffic jams), capable of connecting to Apple and Android. Fortunately, support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto technologies is provided, like any other self-respecting modern sedan. The media system works, fortunately for Hyundai fans, without much complaints.

Hyundai Sonata Specifications

The engine range of the seventh "Sonata" is represented by two gasoline atmospheric engines that are unpretentious in terms of fuel quality. The first engine, Nu 2.0 MPI, received a lightweight aluminum block and cylinder head, a low-noise timing chain, a continuously variable valve timing system at the inlet / outlet, a plastic intake manifold with variable geometry and distributed injection technology. The power of the two-liter engine is 150 hp, and the torque is 192 Nm. The second motor is an aluminum "four" 2.4 GDI series Theta-II. Such an engine is equipped with intake phase shifters and a direct injection system at a pressure of 200 bar. The 2.4-liter unit develops 188 hp. and 241 Nm of peak torque. Both it and its alternative in the form of a 150-horsepower "aspirated" complies with the Euro-5 eco-standard, is combined exclusively with front-wheel drive and works in tandem with a 6-speed automatic transmission A6MF2 of Hyundai's own design. Average fuel consumption, according to the manufacturer, is 7.8-8.3 liters. by 100 km (depending on the modification), but the actual figures may be higher.

I bought a new Hyundai Sonata in November 2018, and this review will be about it. The selection criteria were as follows:

1. Sedan with a large interior (I love sedans, as for me, these are the most comfortable cars) and a bunch of rear seats.

2. Aspirated with hydromechanical automatic transmission (I don't want turbo engines and robots anymore, I ate ... Although I consider 2.0 TSI + 6DSG the most balanced "pair" in terms of dynamics, acceleration, fuel consumption).

3. Trunk (two children + frequent intercity trips).

4. Price ... because I don't print money.

5. The car must be new. I'm tired of shaking hands with the masters.

There was no agony of choice. Prices for new cars in Russia are sobering. Watched: Optima, Passat, Superb, Camry, Mazda 6, Mondeo, Sonata. Let's go choose:

The trade wind is beautiful. I had two Passats - both, turbo with DSG. Everything suited, except that you sell horseradish on the secondary. But the new one in the configuration you like goes for 2 million, which is a catastrophic lot for me. Not impressed for 1.5 - it's an empty car on mechanics. Sadly at all. Past ...

Camry. I went to the V50. I took a new one for 1.07 in 2014 - it will go. The new Camry is very normal. But gentlemen, the Japanese! Why have you reduced the back space so much? Space has become frankly small! And if not ... 1.6-1.7 for a car on a rag (about 3.5 for 2.6, I generally keep quiet) + CASCO - from 100k + interservice 10,000 km.

If it were not for the prices for THAT as for Maybach ... I would probably consider it. The bottom line, I do not need its reliability (for such grandmother still ...) It will be inherited by the new owner, because after 3-4 years I will sell it anyway, because get bored. This is trash. No guys, the 114% Camry isn't worth the money.

Superb ... The largest in the cabin. Largest trunk. But everything else - see the point about the Passat ... Accordingly, also by.

Mazda 6 - too expensive, little back room, but overall everything is great. Fresh design. Beautiful. It goes perfectly even with 2.0. But CASCO is space ... No, not that way ... but - COOSMOSS. 130k per year with a 15k deductible ...

Mondeo - did not like it. From the word in general. Although for 1.5 million the equipment set off ... CASCO is inexpensive. But I decided to think more. In the end, no.

Optima ... Cool car, everything is just offset ... The price did not grow together. only 2.4 available at maximum speed. Expensive for me. Wait 2.0 long. The car ordering policy is the most rotten of all. No price guarantees. The dealer will have time to grab the right car - good, but not like that. Not included in the delivery, the next one only a month later.

And finally, the Sonata. Frankly, I chose from what was, but there was almost everything. The only thing with the color flew a little. I wanted a branded blue or black. In stock was silver. In the end, he took it. Price value 1.405 (from January 1, already 1.450).

As a result, he bargained for a hundred square meters and took it on 11/27/2018 for 1.3 million. Plus a fit from a dealer - a tank of gasoline and the first three TO (15, 30, 45 t.km) at their expense. The warranty period will be serviced free of charge. In the intervals between maintenance, I still want to change the oil by 7.5 t.km. but at their own expense, of course.

CASCO 47,000 rubles, which is very worthy. "I liked" the policy of the insurance company - if the car was a credit, then CASCO is already 70,000 rubles. In general, I am satisfied with the car. I got what I wanted at my price. There is everything I need. Complete set Classic.

Impression

To date, I have covered 1,850 km. I like the new Hyundai Sonata every day more and more. I went to zero maintenance. We added 0.5 liters of antifreeze free of charge, did shock absorbers, brakes tests, computer diagnostics. The suspension was checked with a torque wrench and stretched.

So Sonata: a big comfortable sedan.

Motor 2.0 150 hp The most important thing is that IT'S GREAT everywhere. Well, at least my family and I are on board. Not a race, but I have nowhere and nowhere to drive. Cameras bumped all over the place. But confidently in the stream - at any speed. Cruising speed on a good highway is 130, usually 110. Gains easily. And 150 rides without straining. And more will go, but I don't go like that.

This motor is a descendant of the infamous G4KD. Only from the grandmother's iron they don't talk about their bullies. In practice, hundreds of 2.0-liter Korean cars drive around the city. There are also many owners among my acquaintances. And nobody complains. Drive and drive. They drive well over 100-150-200 thousand kilometers. Perhaps they are lucky. But I don't care, to be honest. There is a three-year warranty, and then it's none of my business.

Box - 6 steps hydromechanics. Not noticed in jambs and failures. An excellent tenacious unit. Shifts are fast and discreet.

The salon has become modern. High quality materials. Koreans have stepped forward decently in the automotive industry. Mine is on a rag. A decent rag, not easily soiled. The front seats at the back have plastic "protection" from children's dirty feet.

There is a lot of space behind. Lots of. Of all the competitors, only Superb has more. I sit behind me (110 kg and 183 cm) in the wreck and I can cross my legs.

The suspension is not a standard. She is moderately comfortable and moderately tough. There have been no breakdowns yet. At high speeds on the highway - it is beautiful. In the city, on pits and potholes, I would like more smoothness. The car is powered by 95 gasoline and feels great. City consumption at the level of 10-11 liters. On the highway - 7-8 (depending on how you go).

Bought floor mats - 1,300r polyurethane, trunk mat, polyurethane - 900 rubles. Signals, auto starts - to nothing. We have a maximum of -5 in winter for a week, there is a regular signaling and CASCO to help.

Outcome

As a result, I can say that the Koreans have made an excellent balanced car. The new Sonata eats little, rides well, the car seats. We are not hijacked. Parts and consumables are cheap. There is no point in looking for a double. Bully? Maybe. And to hell with them. I'll leave the guarantee, and then we'll see. The car is generally reliable, and there are no other stocks in it. If he picks up - well, I will invest money in the capital once every 6-7 years, and I will continue driving. Fortunately, in the maintenance of the car, in comparison with competitors - a penny. On a German, you can invest 120-150 thousand in one DSG in 3-4 years. If we get lucky. I would recommend the Sonata, of course! Gentlemen, a car of this class and equipment costs 200 thousand more than the budget Solaris at maximum speed. In the database, you can take it for 1,200,000 rubles - this is a very worthy price tag. Competitors are at least 1.5 million. All good! I wish your cars do not break down!

Barely noticeable embossed stripes are visible on the hood. All optics in the 2019 Hyundai Sonata are made in narrow triangular shapes. The premium version has LED headlights.

This design gives the Sonata a special charm and a little aggressive look. The dimensions of the bumper are small - but the aerodynamic body kit has an interesting sporty shape. Air intakes are located on the sides and bottom. Those on the side have an unusual type of fog lamp.

The door handles are equipped with a keyless entry system. The side mirrors fold automatically when the engine is turned off.
The wheels are standard - but they look expensive. Once again, we will repeat the look of the new body of the Hyundai Sonata 2019 - solid and restrained. A significant disadvantage is the small size of the clearance. When driving on uneven roads, especially on Russian ones, problems may arise due to the low ground clearance.

I bought a new Sonata in November 2017 ... Basically, a good car, but there are "little things" that you won't be told in the salon.

1) Noise isolation - sellers from AutoGermes were vparival about good noise isolation. It turned out that it is quiet in the cabin only at low speeds, but as soon as you gain speed closer to 70 km / h, the noise becomes intrusive and loud. As a result, there is no difference between "no insulation" and "poor insulation" during normal driving.

2) Navigation - it seems to be there formally, but don't believe your eyes - there is no navigation. the maps are old (very old), the speed of working out the map is unsatisfactory - first you will pass the intersection and only after that you will be asked to turn ... no traffic jams! It is impossible to update maps on your own, and even an authorized dealer does not even have a paid update!

3) The sound of the audio system - a confident three. Bluetooth also works for 3 points - an incomprehensible re-download of all contacts every time you connect, hang, etc.

4) The work of the wipers in automatic mode is a BAD! The "specialist" who designed this needs to rip his head off! The work of the wipers is incomprehensible - when there is a lot of rain they slow down. If you want to overtake a truck in rain or snow, then you need to turn off the machine, otherwise, when overtaking, they simply slow down so that they completely blind. Dangerous! At low speed, they work either quickly or slowly - it's just tin ...

5) The trunk and the hood are bad (difficult) to close. This has been tested not only on mine, but also in salons.

I did not write about the chassis, because no complaints. In this regard, the Sonata is a good car. All of the above are "little things" that just make the car much worse than it is.

As for the nitpicking, then:

- A bit small. Despite the specified clearance, you must remember that this is a sedan.

- Center console with armrest and box, but there is nothing inside the box!

- There is no SD-card slot, which has an extremely negative effect on the update of the navigator (Navitel) on the Motrex MTXM100 stock head unit.

- The back seat could also have ventilation, although the climate copes.

- Adaptive optics is very cool, but after it "descended" from the oncoming lane - it does not rise! That is, when driving around the city, it goes down, and after entering the highway, where the speed is higher, it will look "at the floor", which impairs visibility.
