Traffic rules changing lanes. Who is inferior when changing lanes? Preparing to rebuild

First, a little theory. Let's take a look at what a rebuild is and how to do it correctly. Let's turn to the Rules road traffic:

Changing lanes - leaving an occupied lane or a occupied lane while maintaining the original direction of movement.

Lane - any of longitudinal stripes carriageway, marked or not marked with markings and having a width sufficient for the movement of vehicles in one row.

The Rules do not define a "lane of traffic", but I think it is clear that this is the location of several cars on the same conventional line in the direction of travel. According to current standards, the width of the lane can vary from 3 to 3.75 meters. It turns out that two rows of cars can fit in one lane. True, it will be cramped and rather dangerous. However, the Rules do not prohibit vehicles driving in two lanes in one lane. This is usually used. At the same time, leaving the occupied lane, even if you have not left your lane, is also considered a lane change.

What if the lane width allows you to move in two rows? Moreover, if from this strip allowed to turn to the right or to the left, the question arises, is it possible to turn even from the "correct" lane, but from the second row? Paragraph 8.5 of the Rules states that the driver, before turning, must take exactly the extreme position on the carriageway. Not stripes, as many believe.

Parking area

The Rules establish cases when it is forbidden to cross certain types of markings: 1.1 (shares traffic flows), 1.2.1 (denotes the edge of the carriageway, while crossing this line to stop in permitted places is allowed) and 1.3 (separates opposite streams when there are 4 or more lanes for traffic). However, it is indicated that this line also indicates the boundaries of parking places. That is, moving along the parking markings, you can get a 500-ruble fine (part 1 of article 12.16 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation). However, frankly speaking, which of us, when parking, does not run into these markings? This also includes the islets that define the beginning and end of the parking zone.

Don't be a tram!

Surprisingly, many drivers sincerely believe that driving on tram tracks is completely prohibited. In fact, this is not the case. Clause 9.6 of the Rules reads: "It is allowed to move along tramways in the same direction, located on the left at the same level with the carriageway, when all lanes of this direction are occupied." However, if roadways are installed in front of the intersection or 5.15.2 (determine the direction of movement along the lane), you cannot go on tram tracks through the intersection. Please note that, for example, in Moscow, such signs are installed at almost every intersection.

Now let's take a look at typical emergencies.

Exit to the road from the acceleration lane or shoulder

What is the danger? We start moving at a speed lower than the main stream, into which we plan to "wedge". You need to simultaneously look for free space in the desired lane and look ahead, since some kind of obstacle may arise directly in front of you.

The most common accidents at these locations are side collisions and associated "engines". If you are entering a main road and lapping a car moving straight in its lane or lane, the fault will be on you.

If you managed to get onto the main road, occupied your own lane, but the driver of another car, because of your sharp maneuver, did not have time to brake and moored in your stern, you will also be at fault. True, only in theory. After all, the Rules in this situation require you to give way to the one who has the advantage. That is, if the driver was forced to brake sharply or change the direction of travel because of yours, your fault. But in practice, everything happens exactly the opposite. As a rule, blame for the accident is the one who "settled down" behind. The only thing that can help in such cases is where an unsafe rebuild is visible.

Multiple lane changes

In this case, the risk of side collisions is very high. Imagine this picture. You, for example, are driving in the leftmost lane of a multi-lane road. For some reason, you missed your turn to the right. More precisely, they didn’t miss it, but realized that this is the turn, several tens of meters ahead, and in all cases, you should have already been in the extreme right lane (and in the extreme right position, as required by the rules). What to do? There are two options.

The first and safest one is to drive to the next turn without making any sudden movements. The second is still in the right lane in a fairly short time. If the road is clear, then after turning on the direction indicator, you can "cut" through all lanes in a straight line to your target. The rules do not prohibit this. But the roads, as a rule, are loaded with us, so we have to squeeze through the dense traffic. Everything here is the same as with a one-time rebuilding. The only thing I would add is not to turn off the turn signal until the end of the maneuver. Yes, and to rebuild in stages: we occupied the next lane or row, drove a little straight, then went on. And so on, until we find ourselves in the desired lane. The main thing is not to blindly rebuild when your car is at such an angle that what is happening in the next lane is not visible even in the side mirror.

Simultaneous rebuild

A lot of controversy among drivers, and often in emergency situations, causes a mutual change of lane. Let's imagine the following picture. You are driving on a three-lane road in the far left lane and start changing lanes to the middle. And from the extreme right lane to the middle one, another driver is rebuilt. ?

Clause 8.4 of the SDA says that with the simultaneous rearrangement of vehicles moving along the way, the driver of the car on the right takes advantage. Therefore, when changing lanes on a multi-lane road (both one-time and reusable), carefully look not only at the lane you are going to enter, but also at the neighboring ones. If you see that the driver on the right starts the maneuver, you will have to take the second number. It is clear that you only need to yield to the one who started the lane change on the right if your trajectories intersect, that is, lateral contact is possible.

Summing up, I would like to draw your attention to the following. In order not to get into an unpleasant situation, you need to remember:
 • When changing lanes, you must give way to those who are moving in a straight line along the lane into which you are going to enter. Your actions should not force other drivers to brake abruptly or change their trajectory.
 • Rebuilding: what are the traffic rules silent about?

The inability or unwillingness to correctly rebuild while driving from lane to lane is inherent in many drivers. Unfortunately, it is this factor that often becomes the cause of impressively terrible accidents, in which not only cars, but also people are damaged, and sometimes it does not do without human casualties. Therefore, it is necessary to become familiar with the wide range of practical issues related to such a restructuring. In particular, to study the key theoretical nuances based on the current Traffic Regulations, as well as those arising from them practical features ride. After reading this article, the car enthusiast will find out whether it is possible to rebuild at an intersection and a roundabout, the order according to which it is necessary to give way when rebuilding, standard violations due to which an accident occurs during such maneuvers and other equally important moments.

Highlights for beginners

It is necessary to start with a fundamental rule written down in the Rules of the Road. Their Chapter 8 comprehensively regulates the order of how to properly rearrange from row to row. So, paragraph 4 of this chapter notes those who want to change their lane, skip those cars that are moving along the way, but do not change their movement vector. In practice, this situation occurs constantly. For example, Petrov decided to change the lane of movement, before starting the maneuver he looked at the mirrors to make sure that there was no interference , and then he saw that a car driven by Ivanov was moving along the lane that he wanted to occupy, at a short distance behind him. Then the first driver is obliged to miss the second, since the latter does not change the direction of its movement.

Who should give in when changing lanes

In practice, rebuilding to the left lane should be preceded by a series of conscious actions by the driver, the main purpose of which is to make the maneuver competently, in accordance with all the requirements of the traffic rules, and prevent people from walking behind or making a similar maneuver. In the previous section, a very important rule has already been considered, according to which drivers are obliged, before changing lanes, to let those cars going in the same direction that do not change the direction of their movement. Another fundamental rule is that when two cars are changing lanes at the same time, the right to make the first maneuver is given to the driver who is on the right side of the lane in which both cars are being rearranged (drivers call this "obstacle on the right").

It is very difficult to change lanes in a heavy traffic. However, the task becomes much easier if you firmly follow the main rule of such situations, which is practiced in many countries of the world. Its essence is that if two cars have to rebuild on the road at the same time , the advantage (i.e. the right of the starting maneuver) is given to the driver who takes the right position (located on the right side). Here are some typical road situations:

 1. Petrov's car moving in front wants to change lanes in order to go in your lane (that is, in the lane of Ivanov's car). According to the current domestic rules, the driver Ivanov should not yield to Petrov. He can do it voluntarily. It should be remembered that if an accident occurs, Petrov will be recognized as the culprit.
 2. Petrov intends to occupy the lane along which Ivanov is driving from behind in a straight line. Then Petrov's car is obliged to give way to Ivanov's car. Experienced professionals will also quickly calculate such an option - Petrov's car can be increased due to acceleration so as not to interfere with Ivanov.
 3. Petrov expressed a desire to move into the left lane. At the same time, driving behind Ivanov signaled that he wanted to take a place in the right lane, which was vacated by the driver Petrov. Then Petrov has a clear advantage.
 4. Rebuilding to the right lane is planned. At this time, the driver driving in this lane indicates that he wants to change lanes to the left. This is where the well-known rule "interference from the right" comes into play.

Lane change

The Achilles' heel, that is, the vulnerability of many drivers, is also passing the ring, including changing lanes on it. This is especially true for those situations when there is no traffic light. Then experienced experts recommend to tune in in advance to a new version, mentally saying to yourself: "Attention, I'm rebuilding to the ring!" and quickly simulate your actions. As defined by traffic rules, the circle is the main road, with all the ensuing consequences. This means that any of the other roads is considered secondary.

When you are on the ring, it is very important to strictly observe your lane of passage, since an incorrectly occupied lane will create not only a lot of interference and discomfort for other road users, but also obviously, which may well end in an accident with serious consequences.

When accidents occur more often when changing lanes

As the traffic statistics convincingly prove, traffic accidents when changing lanes most often occur due to the following typical reasons:

 1. If ignored or ignored by the driver general rules rebuilding, determined by domestic traffic rules.
 2. In case of violation of the rule "interference from the right".
 3. Having rebuilt onto the bridge, some drivers do not take into account the rules for driving on the bridge, which differ in many ways from driving on a regular highway.
 4. If you are unable to correctly change lanes at a roundabout (illiterately chosen lane, etc.).
 5. With complete or partial absence of direct visual control from the driver's side (or control using car mirrors) for the situation during a lane change.
 6. When trying to carry out a lightning-fast lane change without accurately taking into account the realities of stopping on the track.

According to the same statistics, almost half of all accidents occur as a result of recklessness, deliberate violation of traffic rules by self-confident drivers, about a third - due to inexperience, about a quarter is the natural result of shallow or complete ignorance. Therefore, experts strongly advise, firstly, to thoroughly study them, and secondly, not to violate the rebuilding maneuvers under any circumstances, and thirdly, you should maximally sharpen your attention during such maneuvers, continuously monitoring the entire complex of traffic participants.

Recommendations for correct lane change in dense traffic

Changing lanes or changing lanes is one of the most common maneuvers that any driver undertakes. Unfortunately, traffic police inspectors must state the fact that when making this maneuver, motorists often create emergencies that end very badly.

In order to correctly, without violations and emergencies, rebuild on any track, and in any flow of cars, it is necessary to clearly understand the basic rules for performing this maneuver.

Let us also recall that for an incorrect lane change - the driver forgot to turn on the light signal before starting the maneuver - a minimum fine of 500 rubles is stipulated under the Code of Administrative Offenses 12.14 Part 1.

Deputies in the Duma have several times put forward a proposal to increase fines for dangerous maneuvering by at least 10 times.

So, the basic rules for rebuilding.

Warning other road users

The most important mistake is that the driver turns on the turn signals directly during the maneuver.

The situation is painfully familiar: you are driving along your lane at a speed of 60 km / h, and suddenly you are cut off on your right - the driver from the neighboring lane wedges in front of you, and he turned on the direction indicators already when he began to make this maneuver.

This situation is quite dangerous, if an accident happened, then it would be easy to prove the guilt of such a would-be driver, especially since most cars today are equipped, which we have already described on the pages of our auto portal website.

In this situation, driving instructors and inspectors tell you how to proceed:

 • turn on the turn signal in advance - 3-5 seconds before changing lanes so that other drivers know about your intentions;
 • you can start rebuilding only after you make sure that there is room in the adjacent lane, for this you need to look in the left or right rear-view mirror and assess the situation.

You need to drive into an adjacent lane at the speed at which the main stream is moving along it at the moment. After completing the maneuver, turn signals must be turned off.

Beginners, on the other hand, often make the mistake of slowing down, that is, they wait until a free space appears and occupy it, while not picking up the speed of the adjacent stream. This leads to the fact that drivers driving behind are forced to sharply reduce speed - that is, an emergency situation is obvious.

ABOUT correct order actions are taught in any driving school. However, there is one problem. As motorists themselves joke: turned on turn signals for other drivers are a signal that they need to add speed and not allow them to change lanes. The traffic rules say that in the process of rebuilding, you need to yield to all vehicles that move without changing the direction of movement - that is, the one who is rebuilding must yield.

(function (w, d, n, s, t) (w [n] = w [n] ||; w [n] .push (function () (Ya.Context.AdvManager.render ((blockId: "RA -136785-3 ", renderTo:" yandex_rtb_R-A-136785-3 ", async: true));)); t = d.getElementsByTagName (" script "); s = d.createElement (" script "); s .type = "text / javascript"; s.src = "//an.yandex.ru/system/context.js"; s.async = true; t.parentNode.insertBefore (s, t);)) (this , this.document, "yandexContextAsyncCallbacks");

If you are driving and you see that the turn signals of the car in the next lane are lit, you can do it in different ways:

 • accelerate and prevent him from occupying the lane - the rules do not prohibit this, however, all those who follow you will begin to accelerate and then the driver will make a maneuver even more problematic;
 • blink twice high beam or sound a signal - this way you give the driver a signal that you allow him to take a seat on the lane in front of you.

That is, when changing lanes, any driver must be able to assess the situation, understand the signals of other road users and show respect for them. For example, in Europe the traffic rules are the same as in Russia, but the level of culture is much higher and therefore the drivers are always inferior to each other.

Various rebuilding options

Situations on the road are different and you need to make maneuvers based on the circumstances.

If you are driving at low speed in a traffic jam, then the main sign of your desire to make a lane change will be the turned on turn signal. Watch the behavior of nearby drivers - if they nod, blink their headlights or slow down, then they are allowing you to change to the desired lane.

In some situations, you can simply slow down and wait until there is free space (but not in a heavy traffic). Provided that there are no cars behind you, and cars from the neighboring lane do not react in any way to the turned on turn signals, it is necessary to reduce the speed by letting the cars pass, and we ourselves take a place in the neighboring lane, while accelerating to the speed of the main stream.

If you see an obstacle in front, it is not possible to move to neighboring lanes, and cars are also moving behind you at high speed, you need to calculate the distance, turn on alarm signals and gradually reduce the speed. In a few seconds, you can decide to change lane and turn on the appropriate turn signal.

If you need to change lanes through several lanes, then you need to enter each lane in turn, assessing the situation before the next maneuver. In this case, the turn signals do not need to be switched off, since other drivers will not understand your intentions.

Well, the most dangerous situation - you rebuild to the left lane, but the whole view is blocked by the one located there big car or bus. Before overtaking and taking a seat in this lane, make sure that no one from the opposite lane makes a similar maneuver. And do not forget about the right hand rule - the advantage when changing lanes is with the one on the right.

After watching this video, you will understand how to properly rebuild in heavy traffic.

(function (w, d, n, s, t) (w [n] = w [n] ||; w [n] .push (function () (Ya.Context.AdvManager.render ((blockId: "RA -136785-2 ", renderTo:" yandex_rtb_R-A-136785-2 ", async: true));)); t = d.getElementsByTagName (" script "); s = d.createElement (" script "); s .type = "text / javascript"; s.src = "//an.yandex.ru/system/context.js"; s.async = true; t.parentNode.insertBefore (s, t);)) (this , this.document, "yandexContextAsyncCallbacks");

You have to rebuild quite often, as it becomes necessary to turn, turn around or simply overtake a slowly moving neighboring car. Therefore, we will consider who should give way when changing lanes and where you cannot change lanes on the road.

According to statistics, most accidents occur when overtaking. This is primarily due to the fact that many motorists violate traffic rules and do not respect other motorists on the road.

Ignorance of traffic rules, and inexperienced drivers, who are not always able to estimate the distance to the nearest car, start and finish the maneuver in time, and of course fear, loss of composure at these moments play a role.

There is such a thing as a "blind spot" - a section of the road that is not visible in the vehicle mirrors. But today there are several options for solving this problem. For example, simple ones: in the form of “twisting” the head on the sides, and more serious ones - installing mini mirrors or a curved central mirror. Manufacturers modern cars are struggling with the solution of this problem, invented and implemented a driver assistance system that warns the driver of the danger of a collision with a neighboring car.

Who must give way while changing lanes

What you need to know in order to maneuver correctly and safely and who gives way while changing lanes. Let's take a closer look at these options.

The term lane change means leaving the occupied lane without changing the direction of the vehicle. To make a maneuver on the road, it is necessary to adequately assess the traffic situation and determine the position of other road users.

This case on the road is considered when you want to change lanes to your left, and the vehicle in the left lane also makes a similar maneuver. According to the rules of the road, the driver of the vehicle is obliged to give you the road, referring to the rule: "obstacle on the right".

The moment you want to change lanes, you need to turn on the turn sign, and not when you have already started turning the steering wheel in the other direction. As stated in the traffic rules, it is necessary to give signals to other road users in advance. If the turn signals on the vehicle are temporarily malfunctioning, it is necessary to notify other road users of your intention with your hand.

Then you need to estimate the distance to the next car, and its speed. The traffic situation changes very quickly, therefore, if you did not make a maneuver immediately, then you need to re-evaluate the situation on the road.

It is worth paying attention to the cars in their lane, watching them in the rearview mirror. Some of the drivers may also start changing lanes and will not notice you. In this case, skip the vehicle that started the maneuver.

Sometimes a simultaneous rearrangement of vehicles begins on the road, this situation can be found both on a 3-lane road and when a car is rearranged at a narrowing of the road.

Thus, on multi-lane roads, you must also keep an eye on vehicles across the lane from you. The rules for changing lanes on the road are clearly spelled out in the traffic rules and assume that when driving at the same time, the driver of the car who is changing lanes to the right has priority. He starts his maneuver first.

Important! After completing the maneuver, the "turn signal" must be turned off so as not to mislead the drivers of neighboring cars.

Priority when changing lanes on the road

To make a lane change at high speed and in a heavy traffic, it is best to wait for the formation of a free "window". According to the rules of the road, you must not create danger and interference for other road users.

The trajectory of making a lane change on the road should not be too long, otherwise it can lead to a skid and roll of the car body, and this, in turn, can result in an accident.

How to properly rebuild on the road

In large cities with multi-lane traffic, situations often arise when the number of marked lanes and the number of actual car lanes do not match. Some vehicles do not move within the lane, but along the markings. If you find yourself in such a situation and got into an accident, it will not be easy to prove who actually violated the rules and it is better to immediately seek help from witnesses of the accident, to record their testimony.

If there is a deceleration lane, then the motorist needs to adjust to it in advance and only then reduce the speed. If there is an acceleration lane, then you should merge into the traffic flow, giving way to cars moving in the main lanes.

A situation of forced lane change may arise due to an obstacle in your lane. In this case, you need to turn on the direction indicator and wait for the moment when someone agrees to let you pass.

In order to better understand how to change lane on the road, you can watch the following videos:

Another case of a lane change is loop maneuvers. By traffic rules the ring is considered an ordinary road, and it is also necessary to rebuild on it according to the standard rules. The most common mistake in this case is leaving the ring from the leftmost row. Turning to the right is allowed only from the extreme right lane, therefore, the exit from the ring should be carried out from the right lane, to which the driver must change lanes in advance.

Overtaking through the oncoming lane

Overtaking is a type of lane change where the driver must first change into the oncoming lane and then return to his own. Since such a maneuver threatens a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle and can cause serious injury to people and vehicles, you should be absolutely confident in your ability to complete overtaking on time and not cause inconvenience to other road users. When rebuilding back into your lane, you need to make sure that the overtaken car is already fully visible in the mirror and only then complete the maneuver.

To make a safe overtaking, make sure that the lane in front is clear at a sufficient distance, and the cars behind do not intend to overtake either. It is prohibited to hinder overtaking by increasing the speed.

Attention! Do not overtake moving vehicles at regulated intersections, pedestrian crossings, railway crossings, bridges, overpasses.

If the oncoming traffic is difficult, the driver on whose side the obstacle arose must give way.

If you have doubts about the possibility of making a maneuver, then it is better not to start it. It never hurts to reassure yourself of safety, while paying attention to all road users.

Rebuild smoothly so that in case of emergency situation manage to stop the maneuver and return to your line.

When changing lanes, the driver passenger car must give way to the motorcycle driver on his right.

Moving along the left lane, you intend to change to the right. Which picture shows a situation in which you are obliged to give way?

When you are changing from the left lane to the right, you must give way to the driver of a passenger car moving in the adjacent right lane, both when he is moving without changing direction, and in the case when he is changing lanes at the same time with you. Thus, you are obliged to give way in the situations depicted in both figures.

Who is obliged to give way?

The "End of the strip" sign informs about the end of the strip. Consequently, the driver of a car will have to change to the left lane, and when changing lanes, he will have to give way to a truck moving in the same direction without changing lanes.

Are you obliged, while driving in the right lane, to give way to the driver of a car who intends to change lanes into your lane?

You are driving without changing direction and therefore do not have to give way to the driver of a car intending to change into your lane.

Are you obliged, while driving in the left lane, to give way to the driver of a car who intends to change to your lane?

Since there is a narrowing of the road ahead, as warned by the "Narrowing of the road" sign, the driver truck you will have to change to the adjacent lane, and when changing lanes, it must give way to a passenger car moving along the way without changing direction.

The driver of a car changing lanes to the right in this situation:

The driver of a car, performing a lane change, including the final overtaking, must not interfere with a car moving along the way without changing direction.

When changing lanes to the right lane in this situation, you:

You need to change to the right lane, while giving way to all vehicles moving along it.

In this situation, in order to continue driving in the forward direction, you are allowed:

To continue driving, you have the right to perform any of the listed actions. It should be borne in mind that when changing lanes to the right lane, it is necessary to give way to all vehicles moving along the way.

Moving along the right lane, you intend to change to the left. Which picture shows a situation in which you are obliged to give way?

When changing lanes from the right lane to the left, you must give way to a passenger car moving along the way without changing the direction of travel in the left lane. With simultaneous lane changes, the advantage is yours. Therefore, you must give way in the situation depicted in the left figure.

Who should give way in the event of a mutual changeover?

In the event of a mutual change of lanes, the driver of a lorry must give way to the driver of a car on his right.
