BMW 5 series 2013 - 2017, generation F10_F11 rest.

The sixth generation BMW 5 Series debuted back in 2009, but today its first restyling, which transformed the model in 2013, is relevant. it will not be difficult to distinguish the new product from its predecessor, if you know where to look, it has updated mirrors with turn signal repeaters and retouched stylish bumpers. At the front, the shape of the fog lights has changed, now they are round, an elegant chrome trim has also been added, and there are fewer ribs on the radiator grille. In general, the car remained well recognizable, all changes can be called purely cosmetic.

But the interior decoration and technical stuffing of the BMW 5 Series has undergone much more striking changes. There are new options for rims and colors, both for the body and for the interior. From now on, all configurations are equipped with xenon optics, but for a fee, you can install LED. The list of power units has been replenished, and an all-wheel drive system is now available for the diesel version of the 520d.

Dimensions BMW 5 Series

BMW 5 Series - E-class car, offered in two bodies: sedan and station wagon. The dimensions of the sedan are: length 4889 mm, width 1860 mm, height 1464 mm, wheelbase 2968 mm, and the value of ground clearance will be 141 mm, which is typical for cars whose path is highway and asphalt city streets. The station wagon is 18 millimeters longer and 2 millimeters lower, and their wheelbase and ground clearance are the same.

The BMW 5 Series boasts a spacious trunk, the sedan offers you a whopping 520 liters of space, which is a pretty solid figure. The car will cope not only with a trip to a store or a shopping center, but it can also easily accommodate several large suitcases. The station wagon is more roomy, with the backs of the second row of seats raised, 560 liters of usable space remain behind, but they can be folded and this figure increased to 1670 liters.

Test drives BMW 5 series generation F10_F11 rest.

Comparative test May 19, 2014 Big to Big: Volvo S60, BMW 5, Mercedes S-class, Audi A8, Porsche panamera

For many, the choice of a car from business class and above began with a visit dealerships “The big German three” and in most cases it ended there. Of course, there is also Lexus, Kia Quoris is rapidly striving to enter the Russian market, but this in no way negates the fact that Europe is still in charge in the “business” and “executive” segments.

The first generation of the famous 5th series of the Bavarian concern (factory body index E12) debuted in September 1972. The middle class sedan of the classic layout with characteristic nostrils of the radiator lining was distinguished by a large margin of safety and reliability.

At first, the cars were equipped with only four-cylinder M10 engines with a working volume of 2.0 liters and 115 hp. with carburetor and 130 hp. with mechanical system fuel injection kugelfischer, the highlight of which was that it was used there fuel pump high pressure (injection pump), as in a diesel engine. These were the 520 and 520i models. A year later, the 525 model was added with a 2.5-liter six-cylinder engine (MLO) with a capacity of 145 hp. with a slightly more convex hood shape. Since June 1974, the economical model 518 went with a 1.8-liter M10 engine with a capacity of 90 hp. (it was consistently modernized in 1975 and 1980).

In July 1976, the 5th model was modernized for the first time: more than 40 details in the design and design were changed, including the branded nostrils were displaced higher, the hood acquired a characteristic stamping, as if pulled over the nostrils, in the roof there was a hatch that could lift at the back. Oversized taillights and new steering wheel... As well as a modern round air filter with a replaceable element and ventilation of the gas tank, the neck of which was moved to the right wing.

The most powerful model 528 with a 2.7-liter six-cylinder carburetor engine MLO with 170 hp. equipped with ventilated disc brakes. The power of the engines was increased: "520" - up to 115 hp, "525" - up to 150 hp, and a year later, a new 6-cylinder carburetor power unit M20 with a capacity of 122 liters was installed on the 520 model .with. with a camshaft drive by a toothed belt, the 528 model received an L-Jetronic injection system, which increased the power to 177 hp, in addition, the rear-view mirror position was changed (it was moved to the front triangle of the driver's door window). In 1978, all models were equipped with a front brake pad wear indicator and a new steering column switch. The power of the 528 was increased to 184 hp.

In July 1981, the 5th series was deeply modernized (new index). The body structure was noticeably changed - it became more dynamic, there was less chrome in the finish, the internal round headlights were reduced, and the taillights, on the contrary, increased. Therefore, this model is called transitional in both Russia and Germany. The bumpers used a different design (later on the high-speed M5 models, integral-type designs with advanced spoilers and painted to match the body color appeared). The total weight, depending on the model and additional equipment, has decreased by 60-90 kg.

The interior of the cabin was redesigned even more thoroughly - for the first time, the famous dashboard deployed to the driver appeared with a dense layout of all controls, which looks almost modern even after two decades. The anatomically shaped seats have the characteristic German rigidity and excellent lateral support. For promotion passive safety the fuel tank was located in front of rear axle... Significantly improved handling by using a double-hinged design similar to the 7th series (E23) front axle with inclined front shock-absorber struts with a small positive break-in shoulder. The new generation of double row front wheel bearings reduces maintenance. The reliability of the brakes has been increased due to the larger diameter and floating caliper design. On the high-speed (215 km / h) model 528i, an additional brake force regulator and a level control system for all technical fluids, as well as the famous system for determining the time of maintenance. The engines were equipped with improved ignition and fuel injection systems, which were equipped with all 6-cylinder engines (M20 / 30), and the 2.0-liter M20 began to develop 125 hp.

In March 1983, a 6-cylinder M20 2.7-liter engine with 129 hp was installed on the 525e for the North American market (it was distinguished by more advanced bumpers). with the Motronic injection system, and a year later it was equipped with a catalytic converter. Then, in 1984, another wave of engine upgrades followed: for example, the 1.8-liter M10 engine was equipped with LE-Jetronic injection, due to which the power of the 518i model increased to 105 hp; a new 3.5-liter engine MZO with 218 hp appeared, which in the version with a catalytic converter developed only 185 hp. (due to the reduced compression ratio), and in the forced for the M5 sports model - up to 286 hp. at 6500 rpm and 340 Nm at 4500 rpm, which at that time was one of the highest results for conventional passenger car engines.

The maximum speed reached 245 km / h. Back in September 1983, the economical model 524td (9.0 l / 100 km) debuted with a 115 hp MLO turbodiesel, which was supplemented two years later by a less expensive but more reliable 86 hp atmospheric diesel on the 524о model.

BMW 5 Series cars of this generation are one of the most popular imported cars in the domestic market due to their durability, engine reliability, comfortable interior (after 1981), good dynamic qualities and the knowledge of the design by the majority of small auto repair shops throughout the country. Bolt-on front fenders and other front body components make repairs a lot easier. An important factor is the developed market of spare parts, because the price of many of them could quite recently be compared with the cost of similar spare parts for domestic models.

In January 1988, the E28 was replaced by the 3rd generation of the 5 series E34, which had a completely new design, but retained the traditional features of rear-wheel drive four-door five-seat BMW sedans.

Cars new generation marked a milestone in the history of the Munich-based company. It's not even about the appearance (wheelbase 2760 mm; length 4720, width 1750, height 1410 mm; front track 1465, rear - 1485 mm). Excellent build quality, finish, ride comfort due to excellent tuning of the chassis, exemplary heating and ventilation systems, impeccable interior design, high dynamic characteristics, stable straight-line coasting, effective brakes, a high level of active and passive safety - all speak of a high level of designers who made BMW one of the world leaders. The 5-series sedans (E34 body) in terms of build quality and comfort can be placed on a par with the luxurious BMW 7-series, in some ways even higher than the products of the eternal competitor from Stuttgart - the Mercedes-Benz concern.

The spacious interior is more focused on the convenience of the driver: a black panel, which is heavy in design, glowing in the dark with orange illumination, is turned in its direction, five power adjustments for the driver's seat, spacious seating on the front seats, as well as excellent ergonomics of controls - all the levers and the levers are where you expect, and the steering wheel, both in shape and, if possible, adjusting the angle of inclination itself asks for hands.

Excellent visibility is limited only at the rear - you need to be careful when parking. The moderately soft and quiet suspension does not cause unpleasant sensations for passengers in any road quality. Silence while driving is a trademark of BMW cars. Quiet, even with intensive use, interior trim (except that the leather of the seats creaks slightly), the engine sounds muffled even at high revs. The luggage compartment with a volume of 460 liters, in the lid of which a very complete set of tools is neatly placed, - for many in those years, such a complete standard equipment came as a surprise. But all other additions (except, of course, the Bosch ABS and the driver's airbags) are offered only in options.

In terms of handling, this rear-wheel drive car (thanks to the complex multi-link rear suspension) behaves almost like a front-wheel drive (i.e. smoothly transitions to a larger turning radius), and only when sharp maneuvering is very much high speed an overly active driver can pull the rear axle into a classic skid. The all-wheel drive version of the 525iX (since September 1991) is even more active safe: it is stable and does not lend itself not only to skidding, but also to sharp wheel slip on dry asphalt (thanks to the traction control system), and even more so it does not allow the car to sit in a puddle on a country road ... But the 80-liter fuel tank is dangerously located (behind the rear axle). Power steering develops full power when maneuvering and decreases as speed increases to improve feedback accuracy. The brakes are simply exemplary - with powerful deceleration, perfect informational content, smooth and precise ABS.

The "fifth" series has become the most representative in terms of the set of engines in the company's production program, which has created for it a wide range of high-quality in-line six-cylinder gasoline power units: 2.0 liters, 129 hp, 195/65 HR15 tires (model 520i) - frankly rather weak, but economical option (if you do not twist the motor); 2.5 l, 170 hp (525i); 3.0L, 188HP, 205/65 VR15 (530i) tires and 3.4L, 211HP, 205/65 VR15 (535i) tires. They were aggregated with automatic 4-range and 5-speed manual transmissions. In March 1988, economical (9.3 l / 100 km in the city) 524td sedans with a 115 hp turbodiesel appeared, the M5 top model sedan with a 3.5 liter (315 hp) engine and increased to 90 l fuel tank appeared in January 1989 and immediately gained popularity among fans of "ride with the breeze." Equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox, traction control and 235/45 ZR17 tires at the front and 255/40 ZR17 at the rear, it has become the most dynamic in its class (acceleration to 100 km / h in 6.3 seconds, maximum speed the firm has limited 250 km / h). In April 1992, this engine was replaced by a more powerful 3.8-liter 327-horsepower, and a month later its 340-horsepower version of the M5 appeared. "Emki" are distinguished by their great appetite in urban traffic (up to 18 l / 100 km), and upon purchase it is recommended to carefully check the condition and wear of the complex adjustable rigid suspension and high-powered engines. As standard, all cars are equipped with brake boosters. In May 1990, the production of 520i 24V, 525i 24V sedans with 24-valve cylinder heads began, which made it possible to remove 150 and 192 hp each.

In November 1991, low-cost 518i sedans with a high-torque 115-horsepower engine (although not very outstanding dynamics) appeared in car dealerships, intended mainly for the Eastern European market. And since January 1992, sales of the elegant Touring 520i and 525i station wagons went in full swing, which, however, did not differ in decent roominess, but retained all the best driving qualities of sedans, as well as versions with the BMW 525ix Touring all-wheel drive system. Volume luggage compartment with five riders it was 460 liters, and with two - 1450 liters, which was by no means a high indicator (slightly more than in the VAZ-2104). This car is not suitable for real off-road conditions, but it is quite suitable as a mountain and winter vehicle.

Since October 1992, sedans and station wagons 530i (218 hp) and 286-horsepower 540i (instead of 535i), equipped with low-noise high-tech V8 engines, as well as the M5 Touring, went on sale. In January 1993, the 115-horsepower 2.4-liter turbodiesel (524td) was replaced by a 2.5-liter 143-horsepower direct injection turbodiesel (525td), aggregated with automatic and mechanical gearboxes.

In November 1995, the production of all versions of the BMW 5-series (E34) was curtailed, as the model came to replace latest generation E39.

The debut of the new, already fourth, generation of BMW 5 Series EZ9 cars took place in September 1995 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The aggressive, assertive style of the 5 has earned a lot of accolades on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. Headlights hidden under narrow fairings, an elegant rear with a powerful strut and, of course, the branded "nostrils" of the false radiator grille speak of the character of the car. The body has become slightly larger - 55 mm in length, 23 in height and 49 in width, which, together with an increase in the wheelbase by 70 mm, provided it with shorter overhangs. Plus, the body has significantly increased its rigidity, this has increased not only safety, but also improved handling. Nevertheless, it did not become heavier, although it remained steel. Aluminum is widely used in suspension design. The guide levers, tie rods, stamped front and rear suspension subframes, suspension struts are made of it. In addition, the outer tubes of shock absorbers, brake calipers and, of course, wheel disks... The unsprung suspension mass has decreased by 36% and, as a result, improved performance and comfort. The use of aluminum allows not only to reduce the weight of the car by about a third, but also to reuse the materials of the old car. The rear suspension design, with the steering action of the rear wheels, perfects the car's excellent road behavior.

The car interior is designed in a traditional style. The driver's seat is the benchmark for ergonomics. Rear seat passenger comfort is enhanced by a 70 mm wheelbase increase.

Since the spring of 1997, a new Touring station wagon has been added to the production program, which is 90 mm longer and 100 kg heavier than the sedan. It has good capacity and retains the sedan's superior ride quality. The range of engines for the station wagon is similar to that of the sedan. The list of standard equipment has been supplemented by two side airbags.

When creating a cargo-passenger version of the car, perhaps more attention was paid to maintaining the dynamic characteristics and individuality of the external appearance. 5 Touring is one of the few examples of European station wagons, where the trunk does not look like a "makeweight", but is a harmonious part of the car. The pursuit of style somewhat worsened the parameters of the luggage compartment - its volume is only 410 liters versus 600 liters for a competitor, the Mercedes E-class T. The car is equipped with both a manual and an automatic transmission.

The BMW 540i Touring is considered the fastest production station wagon on the planet.

At the end of 1997, the armored B4 model 540i Protection appeared. It is capable of withstanding small arms (up to 0.44 caliber) and grenade explosions. All this is made possible thanks to the aramid armor and built-in bulletproof glass... In general, in 1998 at least 500 were produced (the exact figure is kept secret) of such cars at a price of 178400 DM.

A year later, in September 1998, the production of the high-speed model M5 resumed. The uprated 5-liter V8 engine, structurally similar to the serial 4.4-liter unit, is equipped with a Double-VANOS system and eight individual throttle valves... For the first time on a production BMW model, the engine power reached 400 hp, and the dynamic qualities became even better than that of the M3 - 5.3 s to 100 km / h. The M5 is equipped with only a 6-speed manual transmission.

In 1999, the outwardly cars did not change, but under the hoods there were big changes: 6-cylinder engines received control of both camshafts by the Double-VANOS system, 8-cylinder engines - the VANOS system for intake valves and two-stage exhaust gas catalytic converters to meet 2005 Euro 4 requirements. In addition to reducing the toxicity of the exhaust, an increase in torque has been achieved and fuel efficiency has improved.

Another novelty is a 184-horsepower diesel engine with an integral combustion chamber, common rail injection system, turbocharging and intercooled air on the 530d. The car is capable of developing 225 km / h and consuming less than 6 l / 100 km in a standard extra-urban cycle. Despite the complete superiority of the new diesel engine, the production of the old vortex chamber (525tds) continued for some time.

In early 2000, an inexpensive 520d appeared with a 2-liter 4-cylinder direct injection diesel engine, first tested on the 320d triple. Its power (136 hp) is enough to accelerate even a 1.6-ton 5-ku Touring from standstill to 100 km / h in 10.9 seconds. Compared to the petrol 520i Touring, the average fuel consumption has been reduced by about a third.

The more powerful 525d replaced its predecessor 525tds with a 143-horsepower vortex-chamber diesel engine. New 2.5-liter 6-cylinder turbocharged direct injection diesel engine equipped with fuel delivery system Common rail and develops 163 hp.

Serial configurations include a whole bunch of systems active safety: anti-lock braking system, ASC + T (automatic stability control with traction control), DSC III (dynamic stability control) and DBC (dynamic stabilization of brake force distribution). On request, there are such "options" as air strut rear suspension, full "power accessories" with memory for the driver's seat, steering wheel and rear-view mirrors, double side windows, tire pressure monitoring system (RDC), heated steering wheel, automatic climate control unit with outdoor air pollution control (AUC), etc. In 2000, the driver's seat of the so-called active type appeared, which was previously offered only on 7-series cars.

In autumn 2000, the first modernization of the 5-series models took place. Externally, the updated "five" is easily recognizable by the transparent block-headlights with round yellow direction indicators and a new front spoiler with round fog lamps. However, the main changes are hidden inside - there are three new M54 engines for the 520i, 525i and 530i models. They are all in-line, 6-cylinder, Double-VANOS systems with variable intake valve lift. The first engine for the 520i, based on the old 2-liter unit. An increase in the piston stroke from 66 to 72 mm allowed an increase in the displacement from 1991 to 2171 cm3 and the maximum power from 150 to 170 hp. at 6250 rpm. The second engine is the previous 2.5-liter unit of the 523i model, but in the modernized version it develops not 170, but 192 hp. (index 523i was replaced with the correct 525i). The third engine for the 530i, first introduced in mid-2000 on the 3 Series, is a 3.0-liter engine with an impressive 231 hp.

In 2003, the long-awaited changes took place in the 5-series BMW, the BMW E39 changed at its post new model BMW E60. The car was presented in two body styles: first there was a sedan, and the following year the model was supplemented with a station wagon version. In the "five", as in the BMW of the seventh series, they decided to assign a separate marking to each body, so the sedan was named BMW E60, and the station wagon was named BMW E61.

Designed by Chris Bangle and Adrian van Hooydonk. The exterior of the 5 Series has been refined, expressive lines and dynamic forms. Externally, the new model resembles its predecessor very distantly: a rounded front end, a hood cut off from the sides and narrow headlights extending to the sidewalls. Inside each headlight there are two round elements: one with a built-in xenon floodlight (for a surcharge, it will turn after the front wheels, helping to better illuminate bends), the second - with a conventional "halogen". Both are surrounded by beautifully glowing in the dark rims, as in the previous post-styling "five". And in the very corners of the headlights, five orange LEDs are mounted each - these are the side "dimensions". On the rear bumper there are reflector stripes.

Another feature of the new car is that it looks more compact than the previous "five", although in fact it is larger and more spacious. The wheelbase has increased by 58 mm, the overall length by 66 mm. The car has become much more comfortable and spacious. A characteristic disadvantage of previous generations - the lack of legroom and knee room for rear passengers - is a thing of the past. Thanks to the increased wheelbase, the rear passengers will be very comfortable on the E60. Trunk volume increased by 60 liters. In addition, now the "five" can be equipped with a folding back rear seat and a ski hatch.

The salon is geometric and angular. Wide “bevel” on the panel, energetic vertical strokes of door handles covered with wood veneer, “instrument” and “screen” visors overlapping each other. The three-spoke steering wheel is surprising - it seems too sporty for a business class car, but the rim is thinner than on the previous "five". The orange illumination of the instruments with clearly defined "aluminum" rims looks impressively cool in the dark.

It will be possible to follow the surcharge for the speedometer readings practically without taking your eyes off the road - for the new "five" a projector of information on the windshield has been developed. Orange numbers, symbols and warning labels appear to float above the bonnet. Moreover, they do not interfere at all with monitoring the traffic situation, but they are perfectly visible to the driver - and only to him, since the image simply disappears from a different angle. Chairs of expensive versions have comfortable headrests, variable side support and a pillow with a built-in massager.

On the tunnel between the seats is a large ribbed iDrive handle. There are only four directions of movement of the controller - instead of eight for the "seven". A large Menu button appeared next to the controller - the function of returning to the previous "window". The screen itself is with a secret. It is made using the so-called transflective technology: its base reflects the incident light and uses it to improve the brightness of the picture. Moreover, the degree of illumination and reflection of the incident light changes according to signals from a special illumination sensor. And the display also has heating - so that it does not "slow down" at negative temperatures.

Climate control on the "five" now monitors not only the temperature, but also the humidity in the cabin. The most expensive of the audio systems - with a digital processor LOGIC7 and eleven speakers. For rear passengers, there are headphone jacks and a "music" remote control.

Motors are the strongest and brightest part of all BMW cars. It is not surprising that there are many of them for the "five". The engine range opens with a 163-horsepower gasoline engine with a working volume of 2 liters. The bulk of the engines were borrowed from the E39. For 2003, the "five" range also included: 520i (2.2 - 170hp), 525i (2.5 - 192hp), 530i (3.0 - 231hp), 530d (3.0 - 218hp). ) and at the top was 545i (4.4. - 333hp). The engines were aggregated with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. In 2005, 2 new engines appeared, both diesel 525d (2.5 l / 177hp) and 535d (3.5 l / 272hp), the latter with turbocharging.

The new "five" has an ideal "driver" weight distribution along the axes - fifty to fifty. For this weight distribution, it was necessary to significantly lighten the front of the car. And to achieve this, Munich took an unprecedented step. The car body was made according to new technology... Its front is made of aluminum and the back is made of steel. The joints of different metals were connected not by a welded seam, but by a riveting method, since these metals are not “friendly” with each other. Also for lighter weight, the front and rear suspension is made of aluminum. McPherson in the front and multi-link in the back.

"Pyaterochnoye" steering can be ordered in several versions. The basic equipment is just a "rack" with a variable pitch and with a hydraulic booster, which allows you to turn the steering wheel at smaller angles when parking, but in the "near-zero" zone it retains the normal steering wheel sensitivity. The next step is the Servotronic power steering, which, depending on the speed, changes the steering effort. And the AFS (planetary gear with electric motor) system also adds active gear ratio control (in addition to the variable pitch of the rack teeth). The same applies to the suspension - "in the base" BMW is equipped with conventional passive stabilizers, but for a surcharge, you can order active Dynamic Drive stabilizers (a powerful and fast-acting hydraulic motor is included in the stabilizer cut, which, upon a computer signal, spins the stabilizer halves and reduces roll).

In 2007, the updated BMW E60 was released. In the restyled version, a fairly significant part of the car has undergone cosmetic changes. The model received a new front bumper, which gave the car a more aggressive look, the optics of the car, both front and rear, received small changes.

The interior of the car has also undergone changes. The interior of the restyled "five" received new finishing materials, as well as a new gear lever. Engines on all models were modified or replaced with new versions. The engine family of the BMW 5 Series has been expanded to include six petrol and four diesel engines - 170 hp. with. for BMW 520i up to 367 hp with. for BMW 550i.

Since 2007, all versions of the BMW 5 Series have been fitted with the BMW EfficientDynamics suite of technologies as standard. Innovations such as brake energy recovery technology, gear shift indicator, active choke control and plug-in or unplug technology auxiliary mechanisms depending on the current conditions, provided all models with an unrivaled ratio of dynamics and efficiency in this class.

In 2008, the BMW 535i E60 model was released, which received only a sedan body, as well as an all-wheel drive version - 535xi, which was also made in a station wagon version.

In January 2008, a truly impressive event was celebrated at the BMW plant in Dingolfing, Germany - since 1973, the plant has produced five million BMW 5 Series cars.

The completely new, sixth generation of the 5 Series entered the market in 2010. This model received the factory index F10. The car is produced at the BMW plant in Dingolfing together with new BMW 7-Series F01 and BMW 5-Series GT.

The sedan has grown a little. Compared to the predecessor BMW E60, the length of the new five has increased by 58 mm to 4899 mm, the width - by 14 mm to 1860 mm, and the height, on the contrary, has decreased by 18 mm and is 1464 mm. The wheelbase is 2968 mm. The car is based on a shortened platform of the new bMW sedan 7-Series. The car designers, presenting the new product, endowed it with four laconic epithets: elegant, safe, dynamic and successful. The 2010 BMW 5-Series has returned to the strict, classic lines for the brand. The model was designed by Adrian van Hooydonk.

There are seven power units: four gasoline and three turbodiesel. Top version BMW 550i with a 4.4-liter biturbo V8 with 407 hp and developing a maximum torque of 600 Nm. The rest of the gasoline engines are six-cylinder, in-line. May 2013 model bMW series 5-series has undergone a planned restyling. In addition to the modernized appearance, the family received some changes in equipment and new engines. The modernization of the model did not affect the overall dimensions at all. Regardless of the bodywork, the car has retained the same pre-styling dimensions. In addition, the ground clearance has remained the same.

Restyled BMW 5-Series 2014 model year You can distinguish it from a dorestyling car by the presence of turn signal repeaters in the rear-view mirrors, a different front bumper with round foglights and a chrome curved insert, a radiator grill with a reduced number of ribs and a retouched rear bumper. In addition, the car has acquired new wheel rim designs, additional options body paint, xenon optics in all trim levels (optional full LED access), and in addition to the M package, the Luxury Line and Modern Line packages are now available.

The interior has not undergone any fundamental changes during the facelift. The interior color schemes have been updated. The storage pockets and cup holders are now larger, and as an option, the dashboard function can be performed by a 10.25-inch TFT display. Depending on the operating mode of the electronics, the instrument cluster on it may change. For example, when sport mode is activated, the normal speedometer changes to digital and the selected gear is shown inside the tachometer.

IDrive has received a new firmware version 4.2. For an additional fee, the buyer of the updated "five" will receive a joystick for controlling the iDrive multimedia system, the surface of which will be touch-sensitive. With this option, the driver will be able to enter the desired address into the navigator by writing letters on the surface one by one.

The trunk volume of the updated sedan is 520 liters, the station wagon is 560 liters. In this case, in the latter case, the usable space can be increased to 1670 liters thanks to the folding rear sofa in a ratio of 40:20:40. Also, the backs of the second-row seats can be adjusted in tilt angle, and the rear door glass of the station wagon now opens separately. Also for the station wagon, a system has become available that allows you to open or close the tailgate by simply swiping your foot under the rear bumper.

As for the engines, all of them are now optimized for compliance with Euro-6 environmental standards. The engine range includes four gasoline and six diesel engines. A new two-liter turbodiesel has appeared in the lineup, with which the family also receives a new basic modification of the BMW 518d. The motor develops 143 hp. and in the combined cycle it consumes from 4.5 to 4.9 liters per 100 kilometers, and this engine is installed on both a sedan and a station wagon. The line of diesel engines of the "five" will also include a pair of "fours" with 184 and 218 horsepower and three six-cylinder engines. For the 530d version, a 258-horsepower unit is prepared, for the 535d - 313-horsepower, and for the M550d - 381-horsepower. The last engine allows the sedan to gain the first "hundred" in 4.7 seconds after the start, the station wagon - in 4.9 seconds. It is noteworthy that from now on diesel version The 520d can be ordered with the proprietary xDrive all-wheel drive system - previously this version was offered exclusively with rear-wheel drive.

The Bavarians have also updated the top engine. Now the most powerful in the family, the 4.4-liter V8 develops 450 hp. in the 550i version, and on the M5 sports sedan, its output can be increased to 575 hp with the help of optional packages. BMW says that the update has affected not only these engines - the rest of the engines have become more economical. Buyers are also available in-line "six" with a capacity of 306 horsepower. This motor is installed on the modification with the index 535i. The weakest gasoline engines were the four-cylinder units of the 528i and 520i versions. In the first case, the output is 245 horsepower, in the second - 184 horsepower.

The 520i, 528i, 535i, 518d, 520d and 525d versions come standard with a six-speed mechanical box gear. For a surcharge, it can be replaced with an eight-band "automatic", which is included in the list of basic equipment 550i, 530d, 535d, M550d.

As an option for the "five" is available all-wheel drive, the Dynamic Damper Control system, which automatically changes the stiffness of the shock absorbers depending on the quality of the road surface and driving style, as well as a full-steering chassis and a lowered M-suspension. The most interesting option is the fully automatic parking assistant. Thanks to electronics, the parking assistant controls not only the steering, but also the accelerator and brake pedals. Another additional feature is the function of finding a free parking space.

BMW 5 Series is a mid-size business class car that belongs to the E-segment according to the European classification. Produced by the German automaker BMW since 1972. The long history goes back seven generations. At first, the car was produced only as a 4-door sedan, but since 1991, a 5-door station wagon was added. It is a direct competitor to cars Audi 100 (), Infiniti KU70, Mercedes E-class, Peugeot 607, Nissan Teana and Hyundai Genesis.

The names of cars start with the number 5 (means the series) and end with two numbers, which indicate the volume of the engine in liters, if you put a comma between them. For example BMW 520 stands for 5 Series with a two-liter engine. Also add at the end the letter "i" if the engine is an injection engine, for example 525i, or the letter "d", which means a diesel engine.

First generation (E12; 1972-1981)

The first generation appeared in 1972 and replaced the outdated New Class Sedans. At the 1970 Geneva Motor Show, BMW unveiled the 2200ti Gamish concept car. Although he planned to replace the "New Class," the E12 that went into production was visually different. The lead designer was French car designer Paul Bracq.

The first models 518, 520 and 520i were equipped with in-line 4-cylinder engines of 1.8 and 2.0 liters from 89 to 129 hp. A year later and later, inline 6-cylinder gasoline engines with a volume of 2.0 to 3.3 liters with a capacity of 123 to 197 hp appeared. Diesel engines have not been installed yet. The transmissions were 4-speed manual (Getrag 242 or ZF S4-18), 5-speed manual Getrag (235, 245 or 265) and 3-speed ZF automatic machines (3HP12, 3HP20 or 3HP22).

The E12 was restyled in September 1976. This mainly affected the external elements of the car.

Second generation (E28; 1981-1988)

The second generation was introduced in June 1981. The most conspicuous innovation is the center console, directed towards the driver, and diesels were also used for the first time. Front engine layout with rear wheel drive. The body shape was only in the form of a 4-door sedan. It was the last model with a beveled front end (popularly called "shark"). More than 700 thousand cars were produced in total.

The range of gasoline engines includes 16 modifications of 4 and 6-cylinder in-line units with a volume of 1.8 to 3.5 liters and a capacity of 89 to 215 hp. Except for one, all engines are injection engines. Diesel engines two with a volume of 2.4 liters and a capacity of 84 and 114 hp, one atmospheric, the second turbocharged. Mechanical transmissions: 4-speed Getrag (242, 262); 5-speed Getrag (240, 245, 260, 265 and 280) or ZF S5-16. Automatic boxes gears: 3-speed ZF 3 HP 22; 4-speed ZF 4 HP 22.

Third generation (E34; 1988-1996)

The design development took place from July 1981 to the end of 1987 under the direction of chief designer Klaus Lute. Particular attention has been paid to aerodynamics - the E34 has a drag coefficient of 0.30. The third generation was launched in February 1988 and more than 1.3 million vehicles were built. At first, there was only a 4-door sedan body, and in 1990 a 5-door Touring station wagon appeared.

The line of gasoline engines includes: two 4-cylinder 1.8-liter capacity 111 and 114 hp, eight 6-cylinder in-line engines from 2.0 to 3.5 liters capacity from 127 to 208 hp. sec., as well as two 8-cylinder V-shaped motor volume of 3.0 and 4.0 liters with a capacity of 215 and 282 hp. There are three diesel engines with a volume of 2.4 and 2.5 liters, all 6-cylinder in-line units with a capacity of 114 and 141 hp.

The gearboxes were mechanical: 5-speed Getrag, 5-speed ZF and 6-speed Getrag 420G. Automatic transmissions: 4-speed ZF 4HP22, 4-speed GM 4L30-E, 5-speed ZF 5HP18 and 5-speed ZF 5HP30.

Fourth generation (E39; 1995-2003)

Development of the fourth generation began in early 1989, and Joji Nagashima's final design was selected in June 1992. The first experimental production models were built in February 1995, and production began in September of the same year. The body was available in two versions - a 4-door sedan and a 5-door station wagon ("Touring"). Front engine layout with rear wheel drive.

Gasoline four-cylinder engines are a thing of the past. Remained 6-cylinder in-line rows from 2.0 to 3.0 liters with a capacity of 148 to 228 hp. and 8-cylinder V-shaped with volumes from 3.5 to 4.0 liters with a capacity of 232 to 282 hp. But for the first time, a diesel 4-cylinder inline-row with a volume of 2.0 liters and 134 hp appeared. Other diesels 6-cylinder in-line rows from 2.5 to 3.0 liters with power from 161 to 190 hp.

There is a very large selection of transmissions - five mechanical 5 or 6-speed (ZF, S5D, Getrag) and six automatic 4 or 5-speed (GM, ZF).

Fifth generation (E60, E61; 2003-2010)

The development program began in 1997 and ended in 2003. The final draft, written by David Arcangeli under the direction of Chris Brownle, was approved in 2000. Two types of bodies were produced and each has its own code - E60 for a 4-door sedan and E61 for a 5-door station wagon. The body of the car is made of aluminum for the front of the car, and steel for the passenger compartment and rear. This resulted in a 50:50 weight distribution. Over the entire period, about 1.3 million vehicles were produced.

The range of gasoline engines includes 15 modifications of 6-cylinder in-line units and 8-cylinder V8s with a volume of 2.0 to 5.0 liters and a capacity of 168 to 362 hp. Diesel engines 10 modifications of 4 and 6-cylinder in-line rows with a volume of 2.0 to 3.5 liters and a capacity of 161 to 282 hp. Two 5-speed manual transmissions (ZF S6-37, ZF S6-53) and two automatic 6-speed transmissions (ZF 6HP19, ZF 6HP26) are available.

For all models of this generation, except rear drive, an all-wheel drive option called xDrive was available.

Sixth generation (F10, F11, F07; 2010–2017)

This generation was presented to the public in November 2009, and production began in January 2010 and was produced until March 2017. The exterior was designed by Jacek Frolich and the car looks more like the traditional BMW style compared to the E60. External dimensions become a little larger. The range of bodies has expanded - in addition to the 4-door sedan (F10) and 5-door station wagon (F11), a 5-door hatchback (F07), called "Gran Turismo", appeared. There is also an extended sedan (F18) for China, Mexico and the Middle East. Rear wheel drive or full (xDrive).

A 4-cylinder 2.0-liter in-line engine with 168 and 181 hp, but turbocharged, has returned to the line of gasoline engines. The rest of the engines are inline 6-cylinder with a volume of 2.3 to 3.5 liters and a capacity of 201 to 302 hp. There are also two 5.0 liter V8 engines with 402 and 444 hp. Diesel engines of 11 modifications of 4 and 6-cylinder in-line engines with a volume of 1.8 to 3.5 liters and a capacity of 141 to 308 hp, all with turbocharging. There are two variants of transmissions - 6-speed mechanics and 8-speed automatic ZF 8HP.

Seventh generation (G30, G31; 2017-present)

Officially announced in October 2016 and sales began in February 2017. The G30 is based on the same modular platform as (G11). At the time of release, only the 4-door sedan (G30) and 5-door station wagon (G31) are available. The housing is made of multi-phase heavy-duty steel and aluminum. The weight of the car has been reduced by 100 kg compared to the previous generation. The engine is located at the front with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (xDrive).

The front grill has shutters that open and close to optimally cool the engine and reduce drag. The 5 Series is equipped with BMW's sixth-generation iDrive vehicle management system, which has four manual entry options, including gesture-based control.

At first, only three gasoline engines are available - two 4-cylinder 2.0 and 3.0 liters with 184 and 252 hp. and one 4-liter 6-cylinder inline row with 335 hp. Diesel engines are available in four modifications - two 4-cylinder 2.0 and 2.5 liters and 190 and 231 hp. and two 6-cylinder in-line rows with a volume of 3.0 and 4.0 liters with a capacity of 261 and 315 hp. A hybrid vehicle configuration is also available. There are two transmissions to choose from - a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed Steptronic automatic.

The fifth-series BMW sedan began production in 1972. This model bore the factory index E12 and it was from her that the tradition began to assign three-digit numbers to modifications, in which the first digit indicated the series number. The car was equipped with in-line four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines with a volume of 1.8, 2.0, 2.5 and 2.8 (90-184 hp). The most powerful were the versions prepared by the BMW Motorsport GmbH - with engines 3.0, 3.3 and 3.5 , developing 180-218 forces.

In Germany, the first "five" was discontinued in 1981, and in South Africa its assembly continued until 1984. A total of 699 thousand of these machines were made.

2nd generation (E28), 1981-1988

The second generation of the car was a development of the previous version, neither externally nor in design, the car did not differ much from its predecessor. The only four-cylinder engine was a 1.8-liter unit with a capacity of 90-105 liters. with. on the base version of BMW 518. The rest of the engines are in-line injection "sixes" of 2.0, 2.5, 2.7 and 2.8 liters, developing 120-184 liters. with. In addition, a version with a six-cylinder 2.4 diesel engine (84 hp in the atmospheric version and 115 hp in the turbocharged version) appeared in the model range.

In 1985, a modification of the BMW M535i (aka BMW 535i in some markets) debuted with a 3.4 engine with a capacity of 185-218 liters. with., body kit, sports seats and a steering wheel. Then the production of the "charged" sedan began.

The production of the "five" with the factory index E28 continued until 1987. A total of 722 thousand cars were produced.

3rd generation (E34), 1987-1996

The third-generation sedan, which began production at a plant in Dingolfing, Germany in 1987, became completely new car - more comfortable, dynamic, safe, equipped with modern options for those years. In 1991, the station wagon appeared in the lineup, as well as the all-wheel drive version of the BMW 525iX.

Beyond the four-cylinder and six-cylinder gasoline engines 1.8, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0 and 3.5 with a capacity of 113-211 forces, the "five" received new V-shaped "eights" of 3.0 and 4.0 liters, developing 218 and 286 liters. with. respectively. Were in the range and modifications with turbodiesels 2.4 and 2.5 (115-143 hp)

In total, up to 1996, 1.32 million fifth-series sedans and station wagons were produced.

4th generation (E39), 1995-2003

The next version of the "five", which debuted in 1995, had versions with sedan and station wagon bodies. In 1999, the assembly of machines for russian market started at the Kaliningrad Avtotor. In 2000, the car underwent a slight restyling and received an updated range of power units.

The fifth series with the E39 index has finally lost its four-cylinder petrol engines. It was equipped with in-line "six" 2.0, 2.2, 2.5, 2.8 and 3.0 (150-231 hp), as well as V8 engines of 3.5 and 4.4 liters, developing 235-286 forces. There was also a "charged" version of the BMW M5 in the lineup. Four- and six-cylinder turbo diesel engines 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 developed 115-193 hp. with.

A total of 1.47 million sedans and station wagons were produced by 2004.

5th generation (E60 / E61), 2003–2010

The "five" with the E60 index, which appeared in 2003, was outwardly strikingly different from its predecessors. The car has again become a little larger and more spacious inside. On the technical side, there were also many innovations. For the first time in a long time, an all-wheel drive version appeared in the model range, a gasoline turbo engine was included in the range of power units, and active steering, active stabilizers appeared in the list of options lateral stability... The entire front of the car and suspension parts were made of aluminum.

The basic version of the BMW fifth series again had a four-cylinder engine (2.0 liters, 170 hp). The rest of the versions were equipped with in-line "sixes" 2.2, 2.5, 3.0 (three-liter - including turbocharged) and V8 engines with a volume of 4.0 and 4.4 liters with a capacity of 170 to 333 liters. with. Flagship lineup, not counting the "charged", was the BMW 550i with a 4.8-liter "eight", developing 367 forces. Turbodiesels had a volume of 2.0–3.0 liters and a capacity of 163 to 286 liters. with.
