Being an avid fan of the looks of German tanks, I spent a lot of time in World of Tanks. But at some point I gave up this game - the gameplay became boring, and the local developers were too lazy. WoT's main competitor, War Thunder, recently received a major update that caught my attention. And for good reason - the 1.67 update brought me back to tank games.

As already mentioned, I have not touched any tank games for about 2-3 years. During this time, World of Tanks has changed a lot (as far as I hear), but War Thunder has not stood still. At one time I tried this game, and I didn't really like it, but now it has been brought to mind and polished. First, a few words about the basic gameplay.

Hardcore gameplay motivates to get better

Initially, the big difference between World of Tanks and War Thunder was the hardcore gameplay in a creation from Gaijin. A less random system of penetration and a realistic system of tank behavior were implemented several years ago, and over time, all this was polished. On a heavy tank, you can get a one-shot from a medium vehicle. This will scare many away from the game, but such a system motivates them to become better - it teaches them to use the features of the map for the so-called "positioning"

Experience shows that survival on the War Thunder map depends on the knowledge of the terrain and the player's experience. You can take some kind of imba like the American T29 and stand so that one tower is visible, or you can carefully ride along the edge of the map and take a sniper position on the SPG. Variation is present and understanding comes gradually.

With regards to aircraft, I can say that personally I am not a fan of air battles. But in WarThunder, they are perhaps the best implemented in other games. Large selection of real aircraft models, dynamic gameplay and the same hardcore. After all, these same developers at one time worked on the IL-2 Sturmovik series.

It so happened that my favorite nation in tank games got some very good vehicles. The German branch got an excellent premium tank Ru 251... A very fast vehicle that balances the entire line of German tanks well. At the middle ranks, Germany has almost no fast machines that could quickly take up positions in the first minutes of the battle. Now Ru 251 can do it.

This reconnaissance tank develops a speed of up to 80 km / h in arcade mode, and even more in realistic mode. In a collision even with the most armored tanks, a penetrating gun will help, for which cumulative shells are available. Of course, there is no smell of armor here, but the tank is dexterous and penetrating. In War Thunder update 1.67, I liked playing on Ru 251 the most.

Another novelty in the German line was the self-propelled gun Sturmpanzer II... This funny self-propelled gun is a real killer and nibbler in its battle rating. All thanks to the 150-mm cannon, which fires the most powerful high-explosive shells. They will become fatal to any vehicle you encounter in battles. The local V-8 engine makes it easy to change positions - the main thing is not to get under fire. A funny feature of the "Sturmpanzer": the car rolls back slightly after a shot from its cannon - the power of the gun is felt. These little things add realism to the game.

Objective imba update - IS-6... This premium tank is definitely worth the money spent on it. It is a mobile heavy vehicle with good frontal armor and an excellent weapon. His only weak side - gun mask. The tank can easily be shot into it, but experienced players are unlikely to expose this small area under attack.

The most interesting machine in terms of gameplay in the update is the Soviet anti-aircraft gun 29-K... In fact, this is an anti-aircraft 76-mm gun mounted on the good old YAG-10 truck. This mix was actually used during the Great patriotic war... On the battlefields of War Thunder, such an anti-aircraft gun brings a lot of fun to the game. First, it is fast - you can quickly change your position. Secondly, its cannon is very powerful - it penetrates almost everyone (except perhaps except for the "Mouse"). And thirdly, it all looks pretty funny and unusual.

The rest of the cars are typical middle peasants. The American T34 is far behind the imbe T29. The "Shed" FV4005 is a fun machine that can penetrate any tank in the game, but its gameplay will disappoint many with a huge tower without armor. They generally made fun of the Japanese by releasing a Type 60 ATM rocket armored personnel carrier.

Single player PvE

One big drawback of many multiplayer games is the lack of a good single player mode for farming internal currency on bots. War Thunder has recently lost this problem. The so-called "Assault" regime appeared. It can only be played on airplanes for now. You can play alone against bots or with friends or random players.

The idea of \u200b\u200b"Shturm" is as follows: in the case of aircraft, you need to protect your base from enemy bombers. Any technique in the hangar is involved. Developers encourage participation in Sturm with separate awards - farm boosters. Thus, you can farm bots for pumping vehicles if you don't want to bother too much in standard battles, where you can fly off a one-shot.

The main thing in "Sturm" is to kill bots as quickly as possible, but this is difficult to do. It is important to choose the right technique with a good weapon. Otherwise, you will be defeated. To be honest, the mode is not yet balanced, as bots take out the base too quickly, and it is difficult to destroy enemy bombers, even if it is a computer. "Assault" for tanks will appear soon.

What's the bottom line?

All of the above is only part of War Thunder's major update 1.67. The first big update of 2017 brought many reworked vehicle models - both tanks and aircraft. There are two new locations - one for air battles, and the other for ground battles. And much more and much more that pleases. The guys at Gaijin are properly supporting their game by developing the all-in-one concept. Ships that will join planes and tanks will soon be tested.

War Thunder is a multi-level game where everyone can find their favorite vehicles, their own style of play and their own mode. However, the network code remained “quirky”. Several years ago, when I first got acquainted with this game, I met flying tanks, overturned cars and more. I saw this a couple of times in update 1.67. In general, this did not really bother me, since such bugs happened with other players.

You can also say that compared to World of Tanks, the creation of "snails" is much more hardcore, even in arcade game modes. This scares off a lot of players. But it is enough to spend about 50 battles, as even the most casual player becomes an inveterate tanker and pilot.

The aircraft used in aerial battles are not the player's aircraft - they are initially defined by the mission. They do not require repair / pumping, and the progress on them will go to the progress of the player's tank.

New mode of cooperative realistic battles:
For destroying enemy vehicles, inflicting damage, and capturing zones, the player earns Respawn Points (RP), which he can spend for subsequent revival on any vehicle installed in the crew slots before the battle.
After the start of the session, each player on the team receives an initial balance of 400 Respawn Points, for which they ‘buy’ the first vehicle to participate in the battle.
The selection of the battle by the baluster is made according to the maximum combat rating of the vehicle in the slots.
If, before his death, the player does not have time to earn the required amount of OB, then he is considered to be out of the battle.
Vehicle cost in RP: The lower the vehicle's combat rating relative to the maximum combat rating of the battle, the less Respawn Points will be required to revive. The maximum reduction factor is 0.75 with a combat rating difference of 1.0 or more.

Automatic squad formation:

Gaijin Entertainment announces the release of update 1.61, Road of Glory, for War Thunder. This means that new models of ground and air vehicles have appeared in the game, among which are the iconic tanks of the Cold War and the most powerful and fastest fighter of the Thunderbolt family, a crew replenishment system, new squadron battles and much more.

Among the combat vehicles added to the game with the update, the M60A1 and T-62 tanks stand out. Born in the arms race in the 60s, they will occupy the top positions in the US and USSR medium tank lines. M60A1 received improved booking and increased angles of inclination of the frontal parts. Players will be able to use more aggressive tactics and not be afraid of direct hits from enemy shells into the tower. The state-of-the-art 115mm cannon, new chassis and rational booking made the T-62 an unrivaled tank killer.

The American P-47N-15, the most advanced of all Thunderbolt serial modifications, has appeared in the War Thunder line of fighters. Also, the number of new combat vehicles included the large-caliber German self-propelled gun Sturmpanzer IV Brummbär, the Japanese Ki-100 fighter, the formidable opponent of the American Hellcats and Mustangs, the Canadian M4A5 tank, as well as several updated models aircraft.

In addition, a system for replenishing the crew of ground vehicles has appeared in all game modes. With this mechanism, a vehicle still capable of fighting will be able to prepare for the next skirmish with the enemy, replacing the disabled crew member with a reserve fighter. In Arcade mode, it will be possible to request replenishment at any point on the map, and if there is only one tanker left in the tank, replenishment is requested automatically, and one can only hope that the fighter will arrive in time. In the "Realistic" mode and in the "Simulator" mode, the call of a fighter is possible only at the capture point and with at least two crew members in the ranks. It should be remembered that from the moment of the request until the moment the fighter arrives, the car will not be able to move, so it is worth choosing a protected position in advance to wait for reinforcements.

The system of regimental battles has also undergone significant changes. They acquired regular seasons and an increased number of prizes. The first 20 regiments in the ranking will receive between 3,000 and 30,000 golden eagles. These will be supplemented by awards that will be able to receive the 100 most productive squadrons of the season: unique decorators, decals and regalia.

The basis of military simulators is the famous technology of different eras, which has long left the battle formations. Update 1.79 adds to modern models of combat vehicles and aircraft, as well as updated engine sounds.

Update "Project X" brings into the game more than two dozen new pieces of equipment, some of which are still in service with different countries. These vehicles can be driven in new locations - "Italy" for mixed battles and "Ladoga" for aviation. Finally, you can now delight your ears with new and much more realistic-sounding roaring motors.


The most "young" tanks in the game were Japanese Type-90 and later modification of German Leopard 2A4... The French faction received the first car of the third generation AMX-40, and the USSR - T-62M-1 (a modernized version of the T-62). The American branch acquired prototypes of the XM-1, produced by two competing plants Chrysler and General Motors, one of them later became a publicized tank M1 Abrams.

Meticulous fans of statistics will be able to play with the new hangar functionality - "Security Analysis". With this tool, the player can select a specific tank and check how vulnerable any of its parts is. For the test, you can select the model of the tank, the type of shell, distance and direction of impact. A sophisticated algorithm will calculate the probability of ricochet, penetration and the list of modules that the shell will hit inside the attacked tank.


Aviation has been replenished with new aircraft models and new mechanics. Guided bombs debuted in the game for the first time. The control system will allow you to slightly adjust the course of the bomb's flight, which is ideal for destroying ships. A new carrier-based attack aircraft will take the top position in the American aviation tree FJ-4B 'Fury’. Soviet Il-28 got an assault modification IL-28SH, Germany received the most unusual model - Messerschmitt Bf.109Z - a fighter composed of two fuselages. A Romanian-made aircraft has also appeared in the game.

What awaits us in the new War Thunder updates? Each new major (large) update of the War Thunder client adds new technique, maps, various functions and fixes many flaws in the game. Most of all, users are interested in the introduction of new maps, equipment and functions, for example, the appearance of machine guns or a change in artillery. Indeed, are the minor edits and fixes of minor patches really that interesting? Technique and maps, and more - this is the key to a successful update for a common man in the street. So what innovations should be expected in the new major updates of the game, which will most likely receive serial numbers 1.47, 1.49 and 1.51?
We've talked about the most likely updates in patch 1.47 here.
Now let's touch on those things that are likely to appear, but in other, later updates of the game.

New tanks in War Thunder.
Definitely, it is worth waiting for new ground vehicles of the USSR, Germany and, of course, the USA. In the current update 1.45, machine guns were added to some vehicles. However, not all tanks on which machine guns were historically installed received their legal course and anti-aircraft machine guns. Subsequently, the DShK machine gun in War Thunder should be installed on all tank models: IS-2 mod. 1944, IS-2, IS-3, IS-4M, T-54 mod. 1947, T-54 arr. 1951, ISU-122, ISU-122S, ISU-152, we are waiting for this in the next update. Also, machine guns should appear on most German tanks: on top panthers and tigers, as well as on medium and light tanks.
The most active discussion is about the introduction of new top tanks, which will expand the time frame of the vehicles presented in the game and increase the maximum battle rating. It's no secret that now German top cars are significantly inferior to the cars of the USSR and the USA, so this problem needs to be solved.
What kind of tanks can be introduced? Most likely, the appearance of the German super-heavy tank Pzkpfw is worth waiting for. VIII Maus and Leopard I.

Already, the developers are conducting a series of historical articles dedicated to the German tank Maus. Coincidence? I don’t think so. It will be, the only question is whether it will appear in the next update.
But as a result of the introduction of such a technique, the developers will be faced with the question: what kind of machines will other nations have to equalize the possibilities of the parties? This question is one of the most difficult for developers. After all, if the super-heavy tank Panzer VIII Maus is introduced, the Soviet tank IS-4M will not be able to fight it - there will be an overestimated imbalance. The IS-4M simply cannot penetrate the top German! The same problems will arise with Soviet anti-tank self-propelled guns. There is no need to talk about serious problems with medium tanks, since in this case, new subcaliber or HEAT shells for the T-54 will be enough for balance. Therefore, it is too early to talk about the promised T-62. If a new medium tank T-62 is introduced from the Soviet side, then it is worth waiting for an increase in the combat rating of all nations and corresponding vehicles, whether the developers will agree to this is a difficult question.
How do you see the decision on the balance of Soviet tanks? Which tank will become the top one in the USSR tree? What will happen to the combat rating? Most likely, the T-10M, IS-8 or IS-7 will be fired. Which tank will enter is a debatable question. One of the cars in this row will definitely have to appear if Maus appears.
What about the Soviet tank destroyers? Almost 100% probability of appearance in the future in this situation SU-122-54. This vehicle will be able to fight most tanks more successfully than the clumsy ISU-152 with mediocre penetration. Someone, and the SU-122-54 will pierce Mouse.

In general, there are many excellent tanks in the USSR and the USA, which diversifies the game. However, these updates may change the game too much, its battle rating and time frame. Do not forget that the developers emphasize that the time period of the game is from the Spanish Civil War to the Korean War.
Certainly, in the next updates, a branch of American tank destroyers will appear. Developers talked about them long before 1.45. These vehicles must fill the half-empty US vehicle tree in order.
Also, assault howitzers will appear in the game, which will hit with direct fire. In Germany, these machines are likely to be Bison, Wespe, Grille, Hummel and others.
Of course, if there is the introduction of new top-end German and Soviet tanks, then a new top-end American technology will be introduced.
The American M-103 heavy tank and the US heavy tank branch as a whole will not need improvement, since the M-103 cumulants can penetrate more than 300 mm of steel! But we believe that with the appearance of the Maus tank, the top-end American medium tank M48 Patton III should be expected.
Most likely, with the appearance of such a formidable and protected tank as the Mouse, the developers will add a new medium tank for Germany. This tank, as we have already said, can be Leopard I.

New aircraft.
If new top tanks are introduced, which will raise the maximum battle rating in the game and expand the time frame of the presented equipment, then it is worth waiting for new aircraft.
Many players complain about the understated characteristics of the top Soviet aircraft, which are not capable of fighting with great success against American Sabers of various modifications. What is the solution here? The emergence of a new top-class fighter, which may become the MiG-17, is quite likely. This plane fits perfectly into the time frame of the game (the beginning of operation in 1951). This aircraft will be approximately equal in speed to the American top fighter (the speed of the MiG-17 is 1070 km / h). Also, this aircraft is better armed than the MiG-15. And even if it has only 3 cannons: 2x23 mm NR-23 with 160 ammunition and 1x37 mm N-37d cannon with 40 rounds, but this plane can carry bombs up to 250 kg and guided missiles!
Of course, many non-top planes of all nations will be added to the game. Among them will be: Douglas A-1 Skyraider - an aircraft with an amazing bomb load of 3600 kg! Focke-Wulf Fw. 200 Condor - German 4-engine long-range multipurpose aircraft, Bf 109 K-14, Focke-Wulf Ta 152 c, A6M5C, Ki-44, Pe-8, Arado and many others.

Rumor has it that work is underway on carts and rocket boosters for aircraft that will help heavy vehicles take off much faster.



Gameplay.
Multiple introductions are planned to change the gameplay of the game. These include the emergence of new viewing methods (the view from the gunner and from the mechanic), illumination of aircraft cockpits, opening lanterns of aircraft. These changes will be especially strongly reflected in simulator and realistic game modes. This is how the open cockpits will affect the pilot's view and the aircraft's performance.
All War Thunder players are waiting for the destructibility of objects, the introduction of soils and a general change in physics. Let's talk about this in detail. The destructibility of all buildings in the game does not need a detailed explanation. The developers want to make the game more realistic. Now it will be difficult to hide behind a thin wall of a building from a shell. The shells will pierce the walls! Not only the gameplay of the game will change, but also the load on the user's PC. No wonder the developers are now working on client optimization.
It is likely that the destructibility of objects will be introduced in the next updates to the game.
As for the ground, this change will affect the mobility of all types of vehicles. Now the weight of tanks, their passability and the load on the tracks will be taken into account. The different types of soil will make more changes to the game. Although there was a noticeable difference before when driving on asphalt and swamp, this difference will now become colossal. It is likely that in realistic mode, tanks will be able to get stuck in a swamp! But this is just our proposal.



The general change in the physics of the game will significantly change the model of ramming and tank interaction. Work on this is ongoing. We'll see what the gigings will end up with.

Graphics.
War Thunder's graphics are one of the best of their kind. The game engine pleases not only with graphics, but also with optimization. This way the game can run even on weak machines. The maximum graphics settings provide such quality that it becomes difficult to distinguish the game from reality. Of course, the developers will continue to work on improving graphics and optimizing them. Various effects will be introduced, detail and quality of models in the game will be improved. According to these parameters, the game will not stand still. Shooting effects for all types of vehicles and their weapons, movement effects and much more will be added.

New maps in War Thunder.
The developers are constantly working on adding new maps, optimizing and reworking old maps. It is almost pointless to say exactly which cards will appear in the game, since this information is closed, and the developers themselves often change their plans. In each new major update, it is worth waiting for new cards. At the moment, the game definitely lacks city maps and winter ones. One can predict the appearance of the map of Berlin and winter Stalingrad.
