Gas 2217 sable low roof. A furry beast of a wagon layout

The Gorky Automobile Plant launched the Sobol family of cars at the end of 1998. Before that, there were practically no cars of this class in Russia, and the brand was out of competition (not counting foreign analogues). Unlike the Gazelle, the Sobol has a shortened base and, accordingly, a lower carrying capacity (an average of about 0.9 tons).

In total, GAZ has developed four main modifications of the Gazelle's low-tonnage followers:

  • GAZ 2752 (3 or 7 seater all-metal van);
  • GAZ 22171 (10-seater minibus);
  • GAZ 2217 (6-seater minivan);
  • GAZ 2310 (truck with a flatbed body).

The brand “Sobol” GAZ 2752 with double-leaf rear doors and a sliding door on the side of the body (on the right) was taken as a basis.

Minivan (or minibus) "Sobol Barguzin", depending on the configuration, can be 6-seater or 10-seater. At first, models with a "high" roof rolled off the assembly line of the automobile plant, starting in 1999, the roof height was reduced by 10 cm. In the new modification, the rear door began to open from the bottom up, like in passenger cars "hatchback". Since that time, "Barguzin" has been considered a minivan.

Specifications 1998-2003

The first release of 2217 was from 1998 to 2003. The minibus was produced in a 10-seater version mainly for route taxis and had a simpler package. The six-seater minivan has already acquired a richer finish - it is considered a commercial vehicle.

The interior of the minivan is equipped with a folding table, the middle row seats are arranged so that the sitting people could communicate with each other. The seats are soft and comfortable - passengers should be comfortable on long journeys.

The only inconvenience is that the seats are rigidly tied to their seats, and it is not possible to rearrange them at your discretion in the cabin.

"Sobol Barguzin" from the first issues could be either rear-wheel drive or with a 4x4 wheel arrangement. In all-wheel drive version front axle switched on constantly, the bridges are driven through cardan shafts. Due to its sufficient comfort "Barguzin" is often used for family trips to the countryside.

GAZ 2217 (1998-2003) has the following technical characteristics:

  • Dimensions (length / width / height) - 4.81 / 2.03 / 2.1 m;
  • Distance between wheel axles (wheelbase) - 2.76 m;
  • Rear wheel track - 1.7 m;
  • Front wheel track - 1.69 m;
  • Carrying capacity - from 0.64 to 0.91 tons;
  • Gazelle fuel consumption per 100 km (gasoline) - 11.7 liters, for a diesel engine - 9.2 liters;
  • Volume fuel tank - 70l;
  • The maximum permissible speed is up to 145 km / h;
  • Gearbox - mechanical, five steps;
  • Front wheel suspension on 4x2 version - spring, independent;
  • Ground clearance - 150 mm for rear-wheel drive, 205 mm for all-wheel drive;
  • The mass of a fully loaded vehicle is 2800 kg (minivan), 2650 kg (minibus with 10 seats).

Cars of the first generation "Sobol Barguzin" have the following modifications:

  • GAZ 2217 - minivan, six passenger seats;
  • GAZ 22171 - minibus, ten passenger seats;
  • GAZ 22177 - minivan with 4x4 wheel arrangement;
  • GAZ 221717 is a minibus with four-wheel drive.

On the first generation of "Barguzinov", only two types of engines were installed:

  1. Diesel engine GAZ 560 (licensed by STEYR MOTORS) with a capacity of 110 liters. with., volume 2.1 l.
  2. Gasoline carburetor ZMZ 406 110 hp with., volume 2.3 liters.

Chassis, transmission, steering and braking system

As for the Barguzin's undercarriage, it has the following technical characteristics:

  • Gearbox - mechanical, five-speed, all gears are synchronized (except for reverse speed);
  • Transfer case (for models with four-wheel drive) - two gears, with gear ratios of 1.07 and 1.86;
  • Clutch - with one driven disc, hydraulic drive;
  • Front suspension for models with rear wheel drive - independent, double wishbone, for models with all-wheel drive - dependent, on springs. All types of suspension are equipped with a stabilizer and hydraulic shock absorbers;
  • Braking system - hydraulically operated, with two separate circuits for front and rear wheels, with pressure regulator and vacuum booster.
    On the front axle discs, on rear axle drums. Hand brake on cables, cables go to the rear wheels;
  • Steering - mechanism of the "worm shaft - ball nut" type, gear ratio 16.6; with hydraulic power steering, the column is adjustable in angle and tilt height;
  • Rear suspension - leaf spring, with stabilizer and hydraulic shock absorbers;
  • Main gear ( rear axle) - hypoid type, gear ratio 4.556 for 4x2 model, gear ratio 5.125 for 4x4 model.

Design

The GAZ-2217 minibus has the following dimensions:

  • Length - 4.8 / 4.9 m;
  • Width - 2.1 m;
  • Height - 2.1 / 2.2 m;
  • Wheelbase - 2.8 m;
  • Wheel formula - 4x2 / 4x4;
  • Capacity - 6 + 1/10 + 1;
  • Clearance - 15/19 cm;
  • The volume of the power unit is 2.89 liters;
  • Power plant power - 107/120 horsepower;
  • The maximum speed is 120/130 km / h.

During the production of the car, several types of engines were used. In 1998, ZMZ motors (402, 406.3 and 406) were installed on the car. Their characteristics differed only in the number of valves. A diesel version of the GAZ-5601 was also offered. In 2003, engineers carried out a modernization, after which an injection power unit with 140 horsepower and a turbodiesel from the Gorky Automobile Plant "5601" were used in production. In 2008, the device was supplemented with a Chrysler 2.4L DOHC power plant, which developed up to 137 horsepower. The diesel engine 5601 was changed to 5602. In 2009, they came to the final version: gasoline UMZ-4216.10 and turbodiesel Cummis ISF 2.8L.

The latest generation motor has four cylinders. There are 2 valves per cylinder. In the case of the diesel version, there are 4 valves per cylinder. The working volume is 2.89 or 2.781 liters. The maximum power is 107 (at 4 thousand rpm) or 120 (at 3.2 thousand rpm) horsepower.

A version with all-wheel drive is also available, created for rural areas, where off-road is not rare. The scheme of this option includes a single-lever transfer case... Power steering is also provided to improve handling. In some modifications, the driver can disable one axle.

The clutch includes one disc and is dry. The drive is carried out hydraulic mechanism. Mechanical box gear has six steps: five forward and one reverse.

The wishbones form the basis of the front dependent suspension... The designers added stabilizers to her device. lateral stability... The rear dependent suspension is based on two longitudinal semi-elliptic springs.

When purchasing, you can choose additional functions, which include a multifunction steering wheel, air conditioning, power windows and electric adjustment of the side mirrors. Cruise control is provided for diesel variants.

The car interior is comfortable but simple. At the disposal of the driver is a four-spoke steering wheel, a gear lever, a dashboard with system indicators. Used materials of average quality for interior trim, they serve for many years. The seats are upholstered in fabric. Airbags are not provided, the basic package includes aBS system... There are two versions - with a low and a high roof. This does not affect the equipment of the cabin.

The main differences between "Barguzin" and "Gazelle"

It is believed that the Sobol is a more compact version of the Gazelle, and this is indeed the case. Although the "Sobol" is a car of a completely different class, the models have a lot in common - the same components and assemblies, appearance, interior and body elements. When comparing models, it is better to consider the main differences. The main differences between Sobol are as follows:

  • One wheel is installed on the rear axle (on the Gazelle there is a gable wheel);
  • Carrying capacity is approximately one and a half times less;
  • The wheelbase is 140 mm less;
  • Unlike the springs, the Gazelle has a front spring suspension (version 4x2);
  • More compact luxury cabin;
  • Self-developed short frame;
  • Other brake drums;
  • The diameter of the brake discs is increased by 15 mm;
  • Installed other springs on the rear suspension.

The big plus of the front suspension on the "Barguzin" is that there are no pivots in it. Ball joints are installed instead.

Modifications

There were a lot of modifications of "Barguzin" for the entire time of its release. It should be noted that the minivan has undergone deep restyling twice. The first generation of 2217 cars was produced from 1998 to 2003. Then the second series of "Sobol" began, which was produced until 2010. Unlike the previous model, it has the following changes:

  • Rectangular headlights were replaced with teardrop-shaped headlights;
  • The shape of the hood has changed;
  • An improved instrument panel appeared in the cabin;
  • Expanded significantly the lineup engines installed on the machine.

The next time the restyling took place in 2010, when the entire Gazelle family received an improved configuration and became known as Gazelle Business. The level of comfort has also increased for the GAZ 2217 brand, the car acquired the name “Barguzin Business”.

This time the car received:

  • Updated front bumper, which is now attached to the cab rather than to the frame;
  • Eight available body paint colors;
  • German dashboard;
  • Improved interior lighting;
  • Improved stove heating;
  • Adjustable steering column;
  • Imported clutch from ZF Sachs.

Models 2003-2010

In 2003 “Sobol Barguzin” underwent serious modernization. In addition to the changed headlights and hood, interior improvements, the range of engines installed on the car has changed. The turbocharged GAZ-5601 (95 hp) and the injection ZMZ 405 were added to the lineup.

The side mirrors have also changed - they have become more voluminous.

"Barguzin business"

"Sobol Barguzin", unlike "Gazelle", is more suitable for business trips or as family car... To a large extent, comfort depends on a well-thought-out interior decoration. All the details of the interior of the car in the model of the next generation "Sable" - GAZ 2217 "Barguzin Business" are well worked out.

The appearance and location of the seat in the modification of Barguzin business

On the road, the new model is easy to recognize by the modified front bumper and grille trim. The dashboard, audio system, air conditioning and heating system have changed in the cabin. The stove is now controlled by an electronic unit.

The steering wheel has taken on a different shape and has become more pleasant to the touch. Installed other switches for turns and wipers. On new brand began to use an imported clutch - due to this, the speeds are now switched easier, and the clutch pedal depressing is noticeably softer. For the new “Sobol Barguzin” the plant gives a guarantee of 80 thousand kilometers or two years, the interval between maintenance has increased to 15 thousand kilometers.

The new model is also equipped with two types of engines - a 2.9-liter UMZ-4216 gasoline engine and a promising Cummins turbocharged diesel engine (2.8 liters).

Cummins ISF2.8s3129T Specifications:

  • Engine type - diesel, turbocharged;
  • Cooling - liquid;
  • Number of cylinders - 4;
  • The arrangement of the cylinders is in-line;
  • Power - 120 hp from.;
  • Compression ratio - 16.5;
  • Fuel consumption at a speed of 60 km / h - 8.5 liters;
  • Fuel consumption at a speed of 80 km / h - 10.3 liters;
  • Piston diameter - 94 mm;
  • Piston stroke - 100 mm;
  • The volume of the cylinders is 2.8 liters;
  • Ecology class - Euro-3 or Euro-4.

The diesel engine on the Gazelle is very reliable and has a resource of about 500 thousand km of run up to overhaul. The diesel engine at Barguzin Business has the following filling capacities:

  • Engine oil in the crankcase - 5 liters;
  • Oil in oil filter - 0.44 l;
  • Cooling system fluid - 6 l;
  • Between the marks on the dipstick max and min - 1 liter.

Disadvantages and advantages

The factory assembly quality of GAZ-2217 Barguzin is average. There are cases when parts are poorly screwed, bolts are missing, etc.

The first significant "sores" make themselves felt in 4-5 years after the start of operation and are hidden in the box and razdatka, front axle and power steering hose. They appear after the first 40-50 thousand kilometers of run, they happen in a different order. The first comprehensive diagnostics is recommended to be carried out after 90-100 thousand kilometers.

The scheme of the machine is simple, so there are no special problems with the repair. Spare parts can be easily found in specialized stores. It is necessary to clearly know the catalog numbers of the parts, since they differ in size in different years of production. Large windshield provides good overview the driver.

The main advantage of the GAZ-2217 car, because of which it is in demand, is its quick commercial payback. If you use the car as a minibus taxi, then the cost will work out for 100 thousand kilometers. Upon reaching 200 thousand mileage, experienced owners recommend selling the equipment if it is still in working order. By this milestone, no “native” parts remain in its design, except for the frame, body, engine and power steering (in rare cases).

GAZ-2217 "Barguzin" against UAZ-22069 and Mitsubishi Delica

The appearance of a new SUV on our market was very modest and everyday - in June last year, there were reports in the press that GAZ had begun mass production of Sobol 4x4 vehicles. No advertising campaigns, no sumptuous presentations ... No wonder, because "the young was not young at all." Back in 1999, the magazine "Za Rulem" published material on the all-wheel drive part of the gazelle family. It also dealt with the experimental Tandem pickup truck on a chassis shortened in comparison with the Gazelles and with single-wheel rear axle wheels.

In 1998, GAZ's Sobol was a novelty, but it is clear from an interview with the factory management of those years that its production was then considered secondary. The main candidates for the assembly line were cars of the Ataman family, which have been under development since the beginning of the 90s. But the plant did not have enough money to launch the production of a new family, but a number of developments, in particular the front axle and a transfer case with an interaxle differential, were added to the case - since 1995, the plant began to slowly assemble four-wheel drive versions of Gazelles. However, even the factory specialists did not consider the Gazelle 4x4 as a means to overcome the “Russian directions”. Four-wheel drive was needed "cloven-hoofed" only to solve problems with handling on slippery surfaces. For off-road, a completely different apparatus was needed ...

The wide motor masses first saw him during the Eurasian Way rally in December 2000. All-wheel drive novelties from all Russian factories took part in it. GAZ was presented by "Sobol" with index 27527. In 2001, this car was shown at MIMS. Around the same time, the Gorky Automobile Plant changed its owner. The decision to start production of the Ataman GAZ-2308 pickup truck was canceled, and all work on other vehicles of this family was curtailed.

But, fortunately, "nothing on earth passes without a trace." Many units worked out as part of the stopped program were used in preparation for the mass production of all-wheel drive Sobols. And yet, for almost three years, "Sobol 4x4" remained a purely rare fur animal, and its assembly was carried out according to individual orders in PAMS (a workshop for the production of small series cars). And after all these ordeals, our hero finally takes his place on the assembly line ...

Marketing

What buyer are Gorky residents counting on? First of all, on the corporate (and rightly so). Over the years of small-scale production, GAZ has accumulated considerable experience in the development of special vehicles on this chassis (from an ambulance and a mobile forensic laboratory to a mobile television office). Lovers of long journeys are not forgotten, of course. Remember what an SUV looks like when a happy large family is about to take it on a two-week vacation? "Sobol" provides the owner with the opportunity to load all the necessary supplies and equipment inside. The problem of organizing an overnight stay on the route also ceases to be relevant.

Naturally, Sobol 4x4 has competitors. Although, to be honest, there are not so many of them. What other four-wheel drive cars of a wagon layout can a lover of distant wanderings look at? First of all, a direct descendant of the immortal brainchild of the creative team consisting of E.G. Varchenko, L.A. Startseva, M.P. Tsyganov and S.M. Tyurin. I'm talking about the UAZ-452, the Ulyanovsk "loaf", which has been rolling off the assembly line almost unchanged since 1965. The fact that now this minibus is called UAZ-22069, in fact, does not change anything. The plant has already twice announced its intention to discontinue production of this model as it has exhausted the potential for modernization and does not meet modern safety standards. But since UAZ cannot offer alternatives to "loaves" yet, you can still find a brand new minibus UAZ -2206 or van 3909 at any official dealer. Their main advantages are excellent cross-country ability, versatility and low price. But the Spartan conditions of existence offered by the "loaf" will not please everyone. Maybe you should look for analogues from the world's leading manufacturers? And then it turns out that there are almost no cars of this class on the world market. For example, all-wheel drive minibuses of the Volkswagen concern, in principle, are not designed for off-road use, as well as similar products from Toyota. A similar model, perhaps, is offered only by Mitsubishi. The model range of this company includes the Space Gear 4x4 all-wheel drive minivan, which, as you know, is equipped with a range of engines and transfer cases from Pajero. Such machines are not officially supplied to us, but buying a right-handed counterpart, Delica Space Gear L400 4x4, presents no problems. In Vladivostok, a 1995-1996 Delica costs around $ 10,000, and a well-stocked five-year minivan can be purchased for $ 15,000.

It seems to me that you have already understood what a motley company at first glance we have moved towards the Dmitrov test site this time. By the way, the "Barguzin" that fell into our hands was distinguished by an unusual configuration. Most of the serial all-wheel drive "Sobols" are equipped with gasoline engines ZMZ-406 and have five passenger seats (a side sliding door opens access to a three-seater sofa, behind which there is a blank partition separating the passenger compartment from the cargo compartment). For the test, we got the version of the "business compartment" with two sofas (one for three and the other for two passengers), located vis-a-vis, and a folding table. At the same time, the car was painted in a belligerent khaki color and equipped diesel engine GAZ-560 (nee Steyr) with a volume of 2.13 liters. By the way, we had no fewer questions about the power unit than about the car itself. On the one hand, the GAZ-560 is a very modern engine by design (its pump nozzles develop more pressure and provide better fuel atomization than single-plunger injection pumps). On the other hand, we had doubts: could 2.13 liters of displacement provide sufficient power, and most importantly, acceptable torque at low revs... After all, an SUV is not a delivery van, and it may not have enough 95 hp. at 3800 rpm, nor 200 Nm at 2300.

Unlike the "loaf", where such qualities as cross-country ability and maintainability were put at the head of everything, "Sobol" was created according to the laws of civilized "bus construction". At first glance, the prototype is guessed - Ford Transit. In short, a comfortable start was laid in it even before the design. Pulling back the passenger compartment door and getting inside, you find yourself in a real "coupe". Spacious, table between soft sofas, nice upholstery of the walls ... The only disadvantage of this configuration is tiny luggage compartment, because of which the placement of things during a long tourist outing can be a serious problem (the standard equipment is much more thoughtful in this sense). The driver, on the other hand, faces another attack on a long journey. Either because of the placement under the floor of the front drive axle, or else because of what, but there was absolutely no room left for the left leg. For example, we found only two positions for it: on the clutch pedal and under the seat. Moreover, we do not recommend the first one for moving along the track, but in the second, the leg will definitely go numb.

Managing a loaf is no better. But otherwise. There is more than enough room for the left leg here, but the mutual displacement of the steering wheel, seat and pedals makes the driver sit down "with the letter siu" and put his elbow out of the open window. What do you want?! Forty years ago, when designing a military vehicle, ergonomics were in 35th place. Passengers in the UAZ are more comfortable. Not so, of course, as in Sobol, but still. And eleven people can be accommodated in a car (at least in the one that we got). But the most comfortable cabin in our trio was Delica. Thanks to the easy transformation of the interior, in a matter of minutes it is possible to organize both a "compartment" and an eight-seater "minibus". As for the ergonomics of the "Japanese" driver's seat, here we couldn't find fault with anything. Is that some habit is required by the automatic transmission selector on the steering column. As for the rest, both in terms of landing and in terms of controls, it is a solid top five. Against this background, the "Sobol" seems uncomfortable with too short-stroke and tight pedals ("Gets" mainly off-road and during responsible maneuvers), as well as requiring a fair amount of strength and accuracy when turning on the gearbox. In the UAZ, the opposite is true. Force, of course, is also required, but the pedal strokes are such that when you start pressing the brake or clutch, your knee rests on the steering wheel.

Movement is life

Buses, let's start! On the move, the Sobol unexpectedly turned out to be relatively noisy and shaky. Especially loud sounds delight the ears of those sitting in front, and the strongest blows go to those sitting on the back sofa. But, however, all this is annoying only if you transfer to GAZ from Mitsubishi. And if from a "loaf" - then everything will be the other way around ...

No, whatever one may say, but in terms of rubber and engines in this test there is no "political correctness" ... Space Gear is shod in an all-season "Pilgrim" and hums with a 2.8-liter turbodiesel, "Barguzin" flaunts a winter Michelin 4x4 Alpin and hides a 2-liter under the hood a turbodiesel, and only UAZ, which regularly consumes gasoline with a three-liter "UMZeshnik", routinely relied on four Yaroslavl "Bears".

Handling on snow ... The cars have covered the track five or more times. All results were recorded, but the comparison was based on the best. And what? The undisputed favorite in this nomination is UAZ -22069! And note that the "loaf" wrote victorious turns on summer tires! The worst is at Mitsubishi Deliсa Space Gear. Nonsense, but, despite the archaic design, the UAZ is better controlled and easier to enter turns. Moreover, if Mitsubishi Deliсa Space Gear behaves like a front-wheel drive car, then the "loaf" reveals tendencies towards rear-wheel drive handling. As for the main character of our play, "Barguzin" is more characteristic of four-wheel drive habits.

By the way, even before the start of the test, opinions in the editorial office about the off-road capabilities of the Barguzin were divided. Based solely on the external impression, design features and the stated technical characteristics, some argued that there was simply no way to find a better all-terrain vehicle among minibuses than Sobol 4x4, while others reasonably assumed that “it would never get to real off-road”. In general, everyone was impatient to test the "fur-bearing animal" in business ... For warm-up we drove out into the open field, more precisely, to the asphalt area covered with fresh snow. The depth of the white cover is twenty to thirty centimeters. No complications ... Raising snow splashes and resembling giant jet skis, all three cars confidently plowed the virgin soil, obeyed the steering wheel and were not going to skid at all. For greater confidence, we blocked the center differential on the Sobol, but did without a demultiplier. The UAZ rode equally briskly in both the first and second gears of the higher row. But he categorically refused to move in rear-wheel drive mode. For Mitsubishi, all the subtleties with the choice of gears were reduced to locking the central differential and moving the "poker" on the steering wheel to the Drive position.

Tared slide covered with snow with a 30% slope. Only bad luck - the "foothill" is blocking off an impressive parapet of caked snow. We'll have to punch it. Than? Of course, "loaf" - stale bread is the head of everything! Yes, no matter how much we would like to test Sobol in such a responsible business, the risk of tearing off the plastic bumper stops it. So it's decided - UAZ. The second low, gas, short acceleration and ... But the parapet, we underestimated! Having easily taken off on it to the middle, the car hangs on the bottom on a rigid base. There is only one way out: the shovels are bare! After the excavations, Sobol easily pulls off the "pioneer", and we try again. But, given the failure, we accelerate a little faster. And now the Ulyanovsk bus effortlessly jumps the "side". We drive on the rise vnatyag, while the clutch is not enough winter tires with icy concrete, and come back to ... change the car.

On the second lowered "Sobol" climbed up the hill half a meter further than the "loaf". Next in line is Delica. The result of the ascent is another half meter higher. In order to check the guess that has arisen, we again adjust it to the “mountain” on the Sobol. That's right ... GAZ is climbing another half meter higher! Consequently, each of the cars simply rises up the full track, and then punches its honest half a meter before the wheels break. So in this case the results of our "mountain" test do not reflect the all-terrain capabilities of minibuses, but ... the price of snow in the Sahara.

We decided to evaluate the possibilities of the suspensions of each of the subjects on a special track with semicircular concrete blocks arranged in a checkerboard pattern. This "obstacle course" provokes movement on the verge of diagonal hanging. So what happened? Sobol and UAZ coped with the task equally well. At the second low and idle speed, both minibuses waddled awkwardly over concrete bumps, while their chassis literally played rock and roll (that is, swayed and spun). They worked at full speed, and the diagonal unloading of the wheels, now and then turning into a slight slip, was felt in full. However, both domestic car continued to drive. But the Japanese minivan had problems on the nadolbakh. The lower stance and shorter suspension travel have done him a bad job. Not only did Mitsubishi move, almost striking the rapids on the concrete, but it also tore off the wheels by a dozen centimeters. However, he also managed to get through a few holes. But at what cost!

However, a bus is needed ...

Meanwhile, nearby, in the lowland, I rode along the snowy edge of the forest Audi allroad... And it must happen that handsome german car In the most banal way, with the front wheel, I got into a hole dug in the fall with a toothy tractor tire. The driver twitched at first, then talked. After talking, he turned to us for help ... There is nothing to do, we are deploying a rescue operation: we put the rope in the "loaf" and set off down the rolled snow trail. A turn right on the slope, we catch the cable, we accelerate uphill, but the car slides along deep snow-ice ruts. On the second attempt he pulls out the "inmate". But the "loaf" itself is very unsuccessfully pulled into another pit. But the bus copes with this misfortune, despite not the most suitable tires. A high-torque engine and a good selection help out gear ratios transmissions. Along the way, it turns out that in such conditions the first direct gear is most effective (the second is lowered a lot, and the third is not enough).

When we got out, the thought arose: maybe it was worth going to the Sobol? You look, would you manage faster? To test the hypothesis, we change the car and again set off to "free the stuck Allroad". Rumbling monotonously with a diesel engine at idle, we go down a little and try to turn around. Alas, the maneuver does not work - when you try to move back, either the engine stalls, or the wheels begin to slip and the bus begins to slide sideways down the slope. It is not possible to catch the golden mean. It is necessary to again direct the front wheels down the slope and turn with the help of forward motion and a wide loop on the virgin soil. But we could not get out on the knurled track for a long time - the engine was sorely lacking in torque. So what if he's a diesel? Two liters for three tons off-road will not be enough. Whatever one may say ... Especially when the main pairs are primarily designed for asphalt ... Only the first lowered one saved it.

As for the Delica, they also could not turn across the slope. But then the whole "sable" route was repeated simply playfully, in one breath and without the slightest hint of slipping. Against this background, the defeatist attitude of "Barguzin" disappointed even more (everyone can lose on the road to UAZ ...). Alas, good suspension articulation is not always able to compensate for the lack of engine torque. That is why on the Sobol it is better to try to overcome obstacles in a Niva style. It is difficult to say how the Barguzin would behave in this situation with the petrol ZMZ-406 under the hood. But we dare to assume that the situation with the power supply would hardly have improved.

Launched into production at the end of 1998. Before that, there were practically no cars of this class in Russia, and the brand was out of competition (not counting foreign analogues). Unlike the Gazelle, the Sobol has a shortened base and, accordingly, a lower carrying capacity (an average of about 0.9 tons).

In total, GAZ has developed four main modifications of the low-tonnage Gazelle followers:

  • GAZ 2752 (3 or 7 seater all-metal van);
  • GAZ 22171 (10-seater minibus);
  • GAZ 2217 (6-seater minivan);
  • GAZ 2310 (truck with a flatbed body).

The brand was taken as a basis with two-leaf rear doors and a sliding door on the side of the body (on the right).

Overall dimensions of GAZ Barguzin

There were a lot of modifications of "Barguzin" for the entire time of its release. It should be noted that the minivan has undergone deep restyling twice. The first generation of 2217 cars was produced from 1998 to 2003. Then the second series of "Sobol" began, which was produced until 2010. Unlike the previous model, it has the following changes:

  • Rectangular headlights were replaced with teardrop-shaped headlights;
  • The shape of the hood has changed;
  • An improved instrument panel appeared in the cabin;
  • The range of engines installed on the machine has significantly expanded.

The next time the restyling took place in 2010, when the entire Gazelle family received an improved package and began to be named. The level of comfort has also increased for the GAZ 2217 brand, the car acquired the name “Barguzin Business”.

This time the car received:

  • Updated front bumper, which is now attached to the cab rather than to the frame;
  • Eight available body paint colors;
  • German dashboard;
  • Improved interior lighting;
  • Improved stove heating;
  • Adjustable steering column;
  • Imported clutch from ZF Sachs.

Technical characteristics of GAZ 2217 1998-2003

The first release of 2217 was from 1998 to 2003. The minibus was produced in a 10-seater version mainly for fixed-route taxis and had a simpler configuration. The six-seater minivan has already acquired a richer finish - it is considered a commercial vehicle.

The side mirrors have also changed - they have become more voluminous.

"Barguzin business"

"Sobol Barguzin", unlike "Gazelle", is more suitable for business trips or as a family car. To a large extent, comfort depends on a well-thought-out interior decoration. All the details of the interior of the car in the model of the next generation "Sable" - GAZ 2217 "Barguzin Business" are well worked out.

The appearance and location of the seat in the modification of Barguzin business

On the road, the new model is easily recognizable by the redesigned front bumper and grille trim. The dashboard, audio system, air conditioning and heating system have changed in the cabin. The stove is now controlled by an electronic unit.

The steering wheel has taken on a different shape and has become more pleasant to the touch. Installed other switches for turns and wipers. The new brand began to use an imported clutch - due to this, the speeds are now switched easier, and the clutch pedal depressing is noticeably softer. For the new Sobol Barguzin, the plant gives a guarantee of 80 thousand kilometers or two years, the interval between maintenance has increased to 15 thousand kilometers.

The new model is also equipped with two types of engines - 2.9 liters and a promising turbocharged Cummins diesel engine (2.8 liters).

Cummins ISF2.8s3129T Specifications:

  • Engine type - diesel, turbocharged;
  • Cooling - liquid;
  • Number of cylinders - 4;
  • The arrangement of the cylinders is in-line;
  • Power - 120 hp from.;

  • Engine oil in the crankcase - 5 liters;
  • Oil in the oil filter - 0.44 l;
  • Cooling system fluid - 6 l;
  • Between the marks on the dipstick max and min - 1 liter.

In the USSR, there were simply no minivans, as well as a special need for them. But years later, the domestic auto industry showed itself in this previously unknown class of cars. The first Russian minivan was VAZ-2120 "Nadezhda", the second - GAZ-2217 "Sobol-Barguzin". Hopes for the first of the named models did not come true, but the GAZ-2217 found its customers. Despite the fact that it traces its ancestry to a cargo van, and it can only be called a minivan at a stretch: it is a cross between a full-fledged minibus and a minivan.

Differences GAZ-2217 from the usual "Sobol"

The designers of the Gorky Automobile Plant GAZ-2217 "Sobol-Barguzin" was conceived as formally a passenger car-minivan - with a roof lower than that of the usual "Sobol", a lifting rear door and an independent front door. The salon for seven, in addition to the driver's seat, is equipped with wider and more comfortable seats than in the Sobol, equipped with armrests. There is also a table in the cabin, which, unfortunately, soon becomes very squeaky while driving. A driver's license with an open "passenger" category "B" is also sufficient to drive this car.

What other differences from the original model - a minibus - does Barguzin have? There are few of them. A pseudo-chrome cladding, a low roof, a lowered driver's seat, and plastic door sills - that is, in fact, the whole "dress suit" that turns a cargo van and a minibus into a "luxury" minivan. Nevertheless, it should be noted that if the usual "Sable" with a high roof looks a little "chesty", then the "Barguzin" is much more proportional.

A little about the history of the model. GAZ-2217 of the modern era

The GAZ-2217 model has been in serial production of the Gorky Automobile Plant since the spring of 1999. A number of cars were also produced in an all-wheel drive version - the Sobol Barguzin minivan with a 4 × 4 wheel arrangement, a modification of GAZ-22177. Previously, there was also a modification of the "Barguzin" in the "luxury" version of the interior trim (of higher quality and more expensive materials). It was called "Riviera". Together with all the numerous “Gazel-Sobolevsky” family, GAZ-2217 survived the restyling of 2003 and 2010. Since 2010, it has been published without a prefix to the name "Barguzin" - under the name "Sobol Business".

There are five modern modifications of the GAZ "minibus-minivan" with a lowered roof:

  • GAZ-2217-744 - with wheel arrangement 4x2, gasoline engine UMZ-A274 Evotech;
  • GAZ-2217-344 - with a wheel arrangement 4x2, diesel engine Cummins ISF 2.8L;
  • GAZ-22177-743 - with a wheel arrangement 4x4, a gasoline engine UMZ-A274 Evotech;
  • GAZ-22177-343 - with a wheel arrangement 4x4, diesel engine Cummins ISF 2.8L.

In modern GAZ-2217 there is a large number of components of foreign production. In particular, power steering "ZF", shock absorbers and clutch "Sachs", brakes "Bosh", engine mounts "Anvis" (Germany), a modern instrument panel from the company "EDAG", gearbox synchronizers "Hoerbiger" (all named manufacturers - Germany); radiator "T-Rad" (Japan), cardan "Tirsan Kardan" (Turkey), bearings "SKF" (Sweden).

GAZ-2217 engines

GAZ-2217 of the first generation (until 2003) was equipped with ZMZ-402 carburetor engines with a volume of 2.5 liters, 8-valve, power 100 hp. and ZMZ-406.3 with a volume of 2.5 liters, 16-valve, 110 hp. As well as an injection 16-valve ZMZ-406 with a volume of 2.3 liters, 110 horsepower.

In 2003-2009, the GAZ-2217 was equipped with ZMZ-40522.10 injection engines (2.5 liters, 16 cl., 140 hp); ZMZ 40524.10 (2.5 l, 140 hp); UMZ-42164 (2.89 L, 78.5 HP) and Chrysler DOHC 2.4L (2.4 L, 137 HP). Chrysler engines were intended only for the luxury versions of the car (for the Riviere).

Since 2010, minivans-minibuses with a low roof GAZ-2217 have received 2 types standard for all "Sobolev brothers" power units: four-cylinder injection UMZ-A274 Evotech and four-cylinder diesel turbocharged Cummins ISF 2.8L.

  • UMZ-A274 Evotech: working volume - 2.69 l; rated net power according to GOST R 41.85 - 78.5 kW (106.8 hp), cylinder diameter - 96.5 mm, piston stroke - 92 mm. Environmental standard - Euro-4.
  • Cummins ISF 2.8L: working volume - 2.8 l; rated power, net: 88.3 kW hp (120 hp), cylinder diameter - 94 mm, piston stroke - 100 mm. Environmental standard - Euro-4.

Transmission, chassis and suspension GAZ-2217

There are no gearbox options yet: this is a five-speed synchronized manual gearbox common to the entire Sobol family. It is also connected to the engines by a standard dry friction clutch with hydraulic control drive. Previously, the clutch was installed domestically, and in modern versions of the GAZ-2217 - from the German company Sakhs.

All-wheel drive vehicles GAZ-22177, GAZ-22177-343, GAZ-22177-743 are additionally equipped with a lockable center differential and a two-speed transfer case with a reduction gear.

GAZ-2217 cars are built on the basis of a frame chassis. At the front, they are equipped with an independent two-link spring suspension with gas shock absorbers and an anti-roll bar. A dependent is installed behind leaf spring suspension; on 2 longitudinal semi-elliptical springs, with hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers of two sides.

  • Length - 4.81 m, width - 2.03 m, height - 2.1 m;
  • Wheelbase - 2.76 m;
  • The track is the same for the front and rear wheels - 1.7 m;
  • Ground clearance - from 150 mm (4x2) to 260 mm (for all-wheel drive);
  • Curb vehicle weight - 2055 kg;
  • Gross weight - from 2800 to 3000 kg, depending on the modification;
  • With a Cummins ISF2,8L diesel engine curb weight - 2245 kg;
  • The nominal recommended lifting capacity is from 505 to 635 kg;
  • Maximum speed - 120 km / h, acceleration to 100 km / h - 23 seconds;
  • Fuel tank capacity - 64 or 70 liters, depending on the configuration;
  • Wheel size - 215 / 65R16;
  • The manufacturer's warranty is 2 years, or 80 thousand kilometers. Recommended maintenance is every 15 thousand kilometers.

Cab and salon GAZ-2217

In terms of passenger and cargo capacity, "Barguzin", for obvious reasons, will give odds to any, the most spacious minivan - cargo origin affects. Despite its short length, the GAZ-2217 is quite capable of carrying not seven, but ten or even more passengers: its internal width easily allows four seats to be installed in a row. However, to heighten comfort - this is, after all, a "luxury" version of "Sobol" - the salon was arranged like a "coupe": wider and more comfortable "Volgov" seats with armrests are installed here, and there are only three such chairs in a row.

Unlike the standard for both minivans and minibuses of a similar type of layout (seats one after another), in the compartment of GAZ-2217 the front seats are "back to front" "facing" the rear ones.

Salon "Barguzin" - the size of a small room: length 2.5 m, width 1.8 m, height 1.33 m. You can easily move from place to place, bending over. In the middle there is a folding table equipped with a standard lamp. The velor upholstery on all versions looks very dignified in the GAZ-2217 cabin, and special curtains can be used to fence off the world if you want to rest.

In the cockpit, instead of the standard double "sofa" to the right of the driver, there is a single wide seat with folding armrests. At any place (both passenger and driver's) a person of even the most impressive, "heroic" build can easily and easily be accommodated, and moreover, it will not be particularly convenient for a driver less than 170 centimeters tall to drive GAZ-2217.

But the transformation of the cabin was not initially thought out. The only possible layout (seats "face to face") is provided by the manufacturer without options. It is impossible to change it by moving the seats, as in "bourgeois" minivans - they are thoroughly attached to the floor.

For the sake of mythical "negotiations" an imaginary "businessman" has to put up with trips "back and forth" (in the middle row of seats). And, if for ten to fifteen minutes of an intracity trip this does not cause any inconvenience, then for several hours on a suburban highway it is already completely unnatural. In addition, the backrests of the third-row seats were deprived of tilt adjustments - also a necessary function on a long-distance trip.

The cab is separated from the main saloon by a high partition. Therefore, it is possible to move from the front seats to the salon only along the street. Although there is enough room to make a passage.

But! In modern versions of the GAZ-2217, these shortcomings have been eliminated. The salon has received considerable transformation opportunities. Easily fold the seat cushions for over 3.5 cubic meters of extra luggage. It is possible not only to recline the backs, but also to unfold the seats completely, having received a wide "bed". It also became possible to enter the salon without leaving the street.

It is believed that there are no minivans in our country, and indeed there were none. The automakers were completely sure that there was no special need for cars of this class. However, the situation has changed dramatically in the past few years. Then there was demand. And so they began to produce the GAZ Barguzin 4x4 car.

Let's see what kind of car it is, consider the technical characteristics, as well as reviews from the owners.

Story

At the end of 1998, the production of Sobol cars was mastered at the Gorky plant. These cars were produced on the basis of GAZelles. It differed from the popular Sobol model by a shorter wheelbase, independent front suspension, and was also designed for a carrying capacity of up to 900 kg.

The Sobol lineup includes minibuses or Sobol Barguzin and the GAZ 2752 van. In 1999, factories began to produce the 2217 model with a low roof. Here, the designers were able to lower it by 100 mm, and also install a rear liftgate. In this configuration, the car became a minivan.

In honor of the winds

It should be said that "Sobol Barguzin" is a modification of a minibus. The car got its name in honor of the powerful winds that blow on Lake Baikal. Compared to the basic version, it turned out to be more comfortable. The machine has good handling and stability. "Barguzin" 4x4 has an index of 22171 and is equipped with Intended for passenger transportation in especially difficult road conditions... They purchase this machine for work on rural roads, as well as for tourism and out-of-town recreation.

Complete set

In general, the generation of these cars is quite controversial. According to official dealers consumers are offered four-wheel drive vehicles of the "Barguzin" 4x4 model (Gas 22177, GAZ 22171). However, all the same dealers claim that there are regular versions, as well as more than 10 different trim levels. You can get confused here. There is a visual difference four-wheel drive cars is the body height. For all-wheel drive minivans, it is 2200 mm, while ordinary ones have a height of 2100 mm.

Appearance

As for the exterior, many people like it. The external data of these minibuses (or minivans) are quite pleasant. The design of the second generation of cars, which have been produced since 2003, features new large, slanting headlights, an updated radiator grille. So, the body looks quite modern. Plus there are new side mirrors, which are now painted in the same way as the body. The mirrors are powered and heated.

But the back door is a little upsetting. There was no heating or glass cleaner. Therefore, if you drive in muddy conditions, the view through it is very difficult. Drivers also don't speak well of the side door. In order for it to function properly, it must be lubricated frequently and also frequently adjusted.

Salon

According to the interior, we can say that it resembles a small room. For its size, the volume of the cabin is a decent enough space. As for the driver's seat, it is very comfortable and quite ergonomic, like many domestic cars.

Everything in the car is in line with the time. Everything is modern, functional, all controls work as expected and intended. True, here the steering wheel remains the old, two-spoke. Although many people find the three-spoke design more convenient. All buttons, levers, devices do not cause negativity, it is most convenient to use them.

The instruments are now under the semicircular visor. The torpedo received smooth lines. But at the same time, the plastic in the second generation did not become better, it remained the same cheap, with gaps.

However, it must be said that the car has good sound insulation. A novelty according to these parameters can be added to the "luxury" list. The seats have been improved. Some of the seats are equipped with armrests. There is a folding table in some trim levels. Near it, the seats are arranged in a "coupe" style. The seats are firmly installed, so redevelopment is impossible in principle.

"Barguzin" 4х4 - technical characteristics

Cars, depending on the configuration, may have gas engine ZMZ 406 in 123 horsepower, or the same gasoline engine "Chrysler" in 133 horsepower. The fuel consumption of both engines is practically the same, according to the documentation it will be about 12 l / 100 km. Sometimes sellers offer such "Sables" with diesel engines.

The gearbox is the simplest, mechanical, five-speed. As for the four-wheel drive car "Barguzin" 4x4, here the engineers used a single-lever transfer case GAZ 2307.

Hydraulic brakes with a vacuum double-circuit booster. The system is equipped with a brake fluid level drop sensor, and it is also possible to regulate the pressure in the system.

The steering is made in the same way as in all other cars from GAZ. The "screw-ball nut" system has a hydraulic booster.

Spring suspension for all-terrain configuration, and front-wheel drive versions are equipped with a front double-wishbone spring suspension, and a spring suspension at the rear. Based on the feedback from many drivers, the car suffers from front suspension problems. Car owners claim the hub nut is overtightened. Therefore, it often breaks

Also, motorists write that the suspension can easily travel more than 300 thousand km. Good points are maneuverability, visibility, cross-country ability.

How does it go?

The owners in their reviews note that the minibus has a fairly high seating position and excellent visibility. Powerful motors ensure that even among passenger cars the car will be level. You need to get used to the controls first. Even the slightest movement of the steering wheel turns on the hydraulic booster, and it, in turn, immediately turns the wheels. The front shock absorbers are somewhat weak, the front part sways on bumps. The rear springs are not soft enough, so on our roads the rear part throws up.

Long journeys are not particularly suitable for a Barguzin 4x4 car. The maximum declared speed is only 120 km / h. Drivers say that even at 110 km / h, driving is no longer very comfortable, besides, fuel consumption is increasing.

However, the situation changes dramatically when the roads end. Here, on the off-road, you can completely open up and get to know this car in a new way. The all-wheel drive Gorky minivan is a real off-road vehicle. According to its characteristics, the car "Barguzin" 4x4, the photo of which you can see below, is almost as good as the cars of the Ulyanovsk plant.

This car performed on the Silk Way track. There, the minivan more than once pulled combat off-road vehicles out of the mud, which were simply tied up tightly. The car pulls in any conditions. However, you should not go into the mud too much. A car can get stuck in a rut from a truck, and you can't always find a tractor.

Price policy

What is the cost of a Barguzin 4x4 minivan? Price is another of this SUV. New all-wheel drive car in basic configuration can be purchased in the region of 500,000 rubles. A used car at the age of five can cost about 200 thousand.

So, we found out what technical characteristics, design and price of this minibus has. As you can see, "Barguzin" is an excellent and inexpensive alternative to modern foreign cars such as "Mercedes Vito" and "Volkswagen Transporter", and besides, it is four-wheel drive.
