Problems with the placement of the spare wheel on the tailgate of the Oise Hunter. Transfer options

Placed on the tailgate of the UAZ Hunter, the spare wheel in a protective cover looks very organic on the car, but at the same time, some problems may arise during the operation of the car because of this.

Problems with the placement of the spare wheel on the tailgate of the Oise Hunter.

The first problem is associated with the danger of the tailgate sagging and as a result of failure or breaking of its hinges from the body, although as a rule, in most cases this happens because a spare wheel is hung on the door, which is much larger than the standard one in size and weight.

The second, more important and urgent problem is related to the fact that the spare wheel of the UAZ Hunter goes beyond the dimensions of the rear bumper, therefore, when it encounters some kind of high obstacle, it is the first to take a blow, which is transmitted to the tailgate and quite expectedly deforms it, and here one cannot do without expensive repairs.

Spare wheel options outside the tailgate of the Oise Hunter.

There are basically only four ways to solve the problems arising from the mounting of the spare wheel on the rear door of the UAZ Hunter: transfer the wheel to the trunk of the car, fix it on the crossbars or roof rack, make a special holder-holder (gate) for, do not carry a spare wheel with you at all ... All these options have long been tested by the owners of the UAZ and each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages.

In the case of the Oise Hunter, it will not work just like that and put the spare wheel in the trunk without additional alterations. This is prevented by the size of the trunk itself, which is about 640 millimeters long at floor level, while the outer diameter of the standard 225/75 R16 wheel is 744 mm. About the more preferable vertical placement of the spare wheel in the trunk, we are not talking at all.

Additional alterations consist in increasing the height of the rear row seat supports by 5-6 centimeters, then the standard spare wheel is partially placed under it and it becomes possible to place it in the trunk. A significant disadvantage is the decrease in the total volume of the already small luggage compartment of the Oise Hunter.

Transferring the spare wheel to the cross members or roof rack.

This method will require additional cash investments for the purchase or manufacture of crossbars or a stationary expeditionary roof rack. The main disadvantages: an increase in the height, center of gravity of the car and fuel consumption, some difficulties in getting the spare wheel if necessary, and then installing it in place.

Special bracket-holder (wicket) for the spare wheel on the rear power bumper.

Its manufacture and installation make sense only if there is some free space between the spare wheel and the tailgate, thanks to which, in the event of an impact, the wheel will not reach the door. Making a wicket and installing it on it will require a technically competent approach, otherwise additional knocks and unpleasant vibrations will occur when driving off-road.

Do not carry a spare tire at all.

An extremely controversial option, although it has the right to life. Instead of a spare tire, you can carry with you or an express sealant for repairing tires in an aerosol can. On the one hand, the presence of such kits in some cases will allow you to do without a spare wheel and save space in the trunk.

On the other hand, laces for repairing tires and express sealants will be able to help mainly only when the tire is damaged in the tread area and may be completely useless when a tire with a large hole diameter is punctured, a torn puncture or a side cut.

Rebuilding a tire with express sealant, of course, will allow you to get to the nearest tire fitting, but the tire itself may have to be thrown away after that, and given the prices of off-road tires, such a pleasure may not come cheap at all.

The spare wheel can sometimes be annoying for those drivers who don't have to use it. There is even an expression among the people: "It is necessary, like the fifth wheel to a cart." It takes a place, the weight is solid, you ride with you every day. Yes, and some manufacturing firms support such thoughts of car owners, sometimes not equipping their cars with spare wheels, but applying only a can of sealant and a compressor. Maybe this approach is good in countries with a developed road service, but if you imagine a situation that the tire has punched (it has punched, and did not catch a self-tapping screw) more than a hundred kilometers from the city, then the meaning of the famous phrase "My Kingdom for a horse" is quite applicable to the spare wheel.

Spare wheel or stowaway?

Best of all for our Russian realities when the car is equipped with a full-size spare wheel. That is, the tire of the nominal size is mounted on a steel or alloy wheel. Thus, the car owner is "insured" in case of damage not only to the tire, but also to the wheel. Many companies apply a spare tire on a steel rim to a car with light-alloy wheels. At the same time, the tire can be the same as the other four, but there is also a variant with a steel rim of the nominal size and with a rolling tire. In this case, the tire bears inappropriate inscriptions such as "Temporary use only" (for temporary use). The tread is only a couple of millimeters high and the corresponding speed limit is up to 80 km / h.

The next step in the "decline in the quality of life" of the owner of the car is a stowaway in its pure form. A tire with a slightly outlined tread, a bit wider than a bicycle tire, is worn on a steel, very embossed disc, often of a larger diameter than the main wheels. At the same time, the outer diameter of such a spare wheel is still noticeably smaller than that of the main wheels of the car. On such a "conventional" spare wheel (especially installed in front), you yourself will not want to move faster than 80 km / h. And crossing tram tracks will be very uncomfortable.

Where to store?

Now we will consider what options for placing a spare wheel exist, with specific examples. The story will go, as the dialectic teaches - from simple to complex. Let's start with the harsh domestic "crooks".

What do they do when tuning the famous VAZ car? That's right, place the spare tire in the tailgate area.

The spare wheel of another respected car with our roots, the Chevrolet Niva, is placed in the same way. A small drawback of this type of placement is the need to lift the wheel onto the bracket, but will that stop real men?

Most pickup trucks and many imported SUVs have the spare wheel under the floor behind the rear axle. The wheel is pulled to the bottom by a chain or cable by means of a winch.

Everything seems to be convenient and it is not necessary to raise the spare tire high. But imagine that you need to get a spare tire when the car is lying on its belly in mud or snow. Dig a tunnel? So this scheme is not for the most difficult conditions.

The simplest and most common way to place a spare wheel is to place it in a recess stamped in the floor of the luggage compartment.

The disadvantage of placing the spare wheel in the niche is the need to unload the trunk in order to get the spare wheel. And the dirty dismantled wheel will have to be sent to a clean niche.

But to the point of absurdity, such an arrangement of the spare wheel came in a convenient and practical (in all other respects) Nissan X-Trail crossover of the last generation. The fact is that the luggage compartment is two-level, it has four shelves and a box.

The logical continuation was to install the rear bumper from the RIF :)

Among the variety of bumpers presented in the catalog, we chose RIF rear bumper UAZ Loaf with a platform for a winch and an elevator wicket
The choice is dictated by the fact that, firstly, we have an elevated loaf, therefore we need to take a bumper under the lift ( unlike the front, rear bumpers not universal, there is for the elevator, but there is without it). Secondly, the regular storage place of the spare tire is inconvenient - dirt is flying, and it will be problematic to put a bigger wheel there. In addition, there is an idea to put in place the spare wheels for HBO. So the bumper wicket is the way out. And the place for the winch will also not be superfluous - you look someday and install it.

Consider a new bumper, just like the front one, it is well packed: first, in a dense plastic sleeve,

then still into a soft foamy material.

There is a sticker with the name of the product model

The bumper is painted with black powder paint, on the sides you can see windows for installing lights. Below are two strong, towing eyes.

On the reverse side we see protruding brackets for attaching to the frame, and in the middle there is a niche for the rear winch

The bracket for the "gate" is monumental.

The hook for which the wicket is fixed

Niche for additional winch

Bumper attachment points

Sticker with manufacturer's coordinates and certificate numbers

The gate itself is packed separately

It is equipped with a locking mechanism, fasteners and a gas stop.

Everyone looked, rejoiced again at the good quality of the welded joints of the RIF products, and proceeded to install the bumper.

But first you need to dismantle the regular bumper.

On examination, the quality of the painting of the frame was depressing :(
Car for six months, I haven't really driven it yet, and the paint has already begun to peel off in shreds

Okay, we were horrified and work on: we unscrew the halves of the old bumper, dismantle the towing hitch, unscrew the left false footboard and remove the right footboard. Its attachment points are welded to the frame. They did not cut it off, since it does not interfere with the installation of a new bumper.

Install the center bracket on the bolts that come with the bumper.

The right and left frame brackets have corroded - we clean them from rust, degrease, paint.

We are waiting for the paint to dry, and then we screw on the new spacers included with the bumper. If you do not install them separately, but try to do this together with the bumper, then nothing will work - it will be difficult to crawl to the mounting bolts.

We install the bumper in place. Attached to three brackets

Do not forget to fasten from the bottom

We install the gate in place. We fasten the gas stop.

We try how the wicket opens, how it is fixed on the bumper. Trying to open the rear doors. We make sure that they do not catch on for anything and finally stretch the bumper mounting bolts.

Like all power bumpers, this one weighs a lot: the bumper itself weighs 33kg and the wicket is another 15kg. In total, 48kg is added.

Since the acquisition of the popular model of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant of the UAZ Patriot SUV, each car owner has faced a situation, or rather, a problem when, over time, the tailgate began to sag due to a heavy spare wheel. Although the UAZ Patriot SUV is one of the high-quality creations of the Russian car industry, it also has some drawbacks. The spare wheel is placed on the rear door of the SUV and is secured with 3 nuts. These nuts, of course, are enough to hold the wheel, but constant vibrations during movement and the large weight of the spare wheel lead to the fact that the curtains of the rear door do not withstand and begin, as they say, to give up their positions. In addition, there is another problem, which is the erasing of paint on the rear door with a spare wheel. Drivers can detect this action after several thousand tens of kilometers. In particular, paint abrasion is found on the lower part of the door where the spare wheel touches the door.

One of the wicket options for UAZ Patriot

To correct this situation and not bring, as they say, to sin, it is recommended that immediately after purchasing an SUV, to do some reconstruction of the body attachment. This is what this material will tell you about. Consider the process of installing a wicket - an element on which a spare wheel will be placed. Where can you buy a gate or how to make it yourself.

Purpose and device of the wicket

A wicket is a special steel structure with awnings to which the spare wheel is attached. By installing a wicket door, the rear door completely gets rid of unnecessary excess weight of the spare wheel, and thereby increases the service life of the awnings.

The wicket is made mainly of steel pipes. The product is attached to the body structure using special brackets. And, of course, there are special mounts for the spare wheel.

A wicket door for an UAZ Patriot SUV can be purchased ready-made, which is manufactured at specialized factories, but the cost of such a product will vary from 9,000 to 12,000 rubles.

You can make a product with your own hands, or rather, use the help of specialists. First, it is necessary to prepare dimensional drawings, and then select the appropriate metal, which also will not negatively affect the body structure. Making a gate with your own hands is a rather laborious process, but you can save 2-3 thousand rubles on this. It is much easier to purchase a finished product for the UAZ Patriot SUV.

Next, we will consider the process of installing a wicket on an UAZ Patriot SUV on our own. Exactly independently, because this process is not only simple, but even enjoyable, since all fasteners of the factory product fit the SUV. So let's get started.

Installation of a wicket

Work begins with the purchase of a factory-made wicket for the UAZ Patriot SUV, which comes with:

  • installation instructions, with which the installation will be quite simple;
  • accessories: bolts, nuts, clamps;
  • a sketch with which holes are drilled for installing the product.

Car with spare wheel bracket installed

Allen head bolts included.

So, starting the installation, you should make sure you have the necessary tool:

  • spanners;
  • hexagon;
  • sealant;
  • drill and drill bits for metal.

Everything is ready to install a new spare wheel wicket, so let's proceed: first, you need to remove the standard design of the spare wheel holder, and before that, remove the spare wheel. After removing the wheel, you can find the following picture:

Minus the standard wheel mount

As you can see, dirt accumulates in the lower part between the body and the wheel, which ultimately leads to metal corrosion - an unpleasant phenomenon, so it is best not to wait for problems to appear, but to install the wicket immediately after buying a car. This requires:

  1. The standard mount is removed by unscrewing the bolts, as seen in the photo above.
  2. The rear light is removed.
  3. We clean the surface of the body from dirt.

We seal the seams

  1. A sketch is attached to the bodywork above and below the tail light and two holes are drilled.
  2. The holder is mounted on the rear door with 6 bolts. Bolts are screwed into standard holes.
  3. Now it is necessary to smear the holder around the perimeter so that water does not get under its structure and does not cause corrosion. The photo below is an example of processing with a sealant. +
  4. The operability of the wicket is checked, which was fixed on two bolts. If everything is done correctly, then there will be no contact with the body of the SUV.
  5. Next, the remaining 6 holes are drilled, and the wicket is fixed using brackets. A rubber strip must be installed between the bracket of the product and the body to protect the body from damage.
  6. Upon completion of the work, you will get the following picture:
