In comparison with German counterparts, the same BMW 5-Series equipment will differ in price by about 500,000 rubles. According to experts, the most popular will be the basic 520i Business. The complete set of this model includes LED optics, heated front seats and a steering wheel, 2-zone climate control, leather seat upholstery and an electric boot lid.

Compared to the basic configuration of the German-made BMW 5-Series, such a Russian-assembled model will be more expensive by only 60,000 rubles, which is not so much as for such a car.

Price of new BMW 5-Series G30 cars

The price of BMW G30 cars produced in Kaliningrad differs from the “Germans” and is much cheaper. So the 520i Business package starts at 2,810,000 rubles, the 520d Executive package starts at 2,960,000 rubles, and the Sportline starts at 2,990,000 rubles. The all-wheel drive version of the 520d xDrive Business will cost from 2,960,000 rubles, but Exclusive from 3,380,000 rubles. A charged BMW 520d xDrive M Sport assembled in Russia starts at RUB 3,240,000.

The new BMW 530i Luxury will cost the buyer from 3,790,000 rubles, and the same option but M Sport from 3,520,000 rubles. The most expensive BMW 5-Series equipment is the 530d M Sport assembled in Kaliningrad and will cost the buyer from 4,060,000 rubles. The difference between the charged version of the BMW 5-Series from other options is considered to be reinforced brakes, adaptive suspension, 19 "or 18" alloy wheels and a combined interior trim.


The first new BMW 5-Series cars assembled in Russia will arrive at dealerships closer to November this year. In addition to the 5th series, the plant in Kaliningrad mastered the production of 3-Series, 7-Series, X6 and X5 SUVs, which, similar to the 5th series, will be much cheaper than their German counterpart.

Features of "BMW" assembled in Russia

How to distinguish a German-made BMW from a Kaliningrad one? The Russian assembly is equipped with a number of design differences. Since Avtotor's products are mainly aimed at Russian customers, a special “Russian package” had to adapt them to non-standard local conditions. The main distinguishing features of the "Russian" BMW:

  • The clearance increased by 22 mm made it possible to achieve increased cross-country ability. Given the situation on Russian roads, such an addition can hardly be called superfluous.
  • Stiffer shock absorbers and reinforced anti-roll bars (both front and rear). This will allow the machine to remain operational longer.
  • The electronics allow you to start the car even in severe frost conditions.
  • Many motorists note that the Russian assembly is less sensitive to the quality of gasoline, which is important, given the quality of fuel at most gas stations.

Thus, the traditional BMW has become more durable, designed to overcome difficulties and travel on those routes for which the car was not originally intended. The cars assembled in Kaliningrad end up undergoing a triple quality control: initially, the parts are checked by the manufacturer, then they are checked upon arrival at the plant, and, ultimately, they are finally checked after assembly. The likelihood of marriage in this case is reduced to a minimum, so the "Russian" BMWs are not much inferior to the German ones. The Russian assembly has been on the market for 13 years.

An important factor that determines the purchase of a Russian assembly is its cost. On the forums, the question is often asked, is it possible to buy a new BMW of German assembly from a dealer? New German cars are still supplied to the Russian market, but their cost is very high. For example, the updated series BMW 520i has been available from official sellers since September last year at a price of 1.825 million rubles. Cars assembled in Russia are not subject to customs duties, so the price markups are much less.

German used car or new domestic

Which is better to buy: a used car from Germany or a new domestic one? For the price, the cars made in Russia are practically equal to the low-mileage models that are transported across the border. It's hard to say what exactly will be better for a Russian driver:

  1. Used BMWs with low mileage, with proper operation, are not much inferior to new ones. The Germans have always been a thrifty people, and used cars come from abroad in very good condition, making them a bargain.
  2. However, the new car cannot be compared to anything else. It is always more pleasant to be behind the wheel of a car that no one else has owned before. The purchase of new cars can fall into concessional lending programs aimed at supporting the manufacturer. This will help you save additional money.
  3. The new car has a warranty card that will allow you to correct any factory defects, if any. Many owners also speak positively about the Russian assembly: the cars are quite high-quality, in no way inferior to their German counterparts, and the build quality in them is not worse.

The prejudice regarding the quality of Russian cars, of course, has good reasons. At the same time, times are changing, and one can expect that the Russian assembly will soon be at a quite decent level, gradually ousting the Western representatives of the automotive industry. So far, the choice remains only with the opinion and taste of the buyer.

BMW undoubtedly produces high-quality and reliable cars that almost everyone dreams of buying. The BMW X5 is rightfully considered the crown of the skill of German designers.

This SUV is luxurious, prestigious and reliable. It has won the trust and love of consumers from all over the world. It is also good that a company that has achieved such success in the market, like the Bavarians, preserves the quality of its cars. What happened to the plans to release the BMW X5 in Russia

BMW X5 is assembled for our consumers in Germany and Russia. Cars of our production leave the assembly line of the Avtotor plant. In 2009, the idea was voiced to open a German company’s own enterprise in our country. But, unfortunately, it was postponed indefinitely. The head of the concern insisted on this.

It turned out that the current unfavorable situation in Russia influenced the fact that sales of the Bavarians fell by 40%. On the one hand, our market remains a priority for the concern. But, no one can predict how things will turn out next. Everyone is inclined to believe that things will not improve. Therefore, the question of building a new plant is in the air.

At the end of last year, only 37.3 thousand cars were sold by our car dealerships. About 30% of them are BMW X5. This is due to the devaluation of the ruble. Also, in this regard, the manufacturer has raised the cost of all its machines. Moreover, this was done several times. The price increase ranged from 2 to 6.5 percent, depending on the model and configuration. But, at the Avtotor plant, production is already well established. By the way, more than half of all cars sold last year were produced here.

As for the Bavarians' own enterprise in Kaliningrad, it should have been opened in 2016. According to the latest calculations, 1.5 billion euros were to be spent on its construction. Half of the cost was planned to be assigned to Avtotor. At the same time, the volume of production was supposed to be one thousand cars per year for each model at first.

Interestingly, the first BMW car rolled off the assembly line of the plant in Kaliningrad in 1999. It was in that year that our engineers produced 554 more vehicles. But in 2008 more than six thousand models came out from here.
Half of them were BMW X5. The cost for a complete set of the Russian assembly at the moment ranges from 3,415,000 rubles to 5,040,000 rubles.
In 2014, when a new restyled version of the SUV was presented, its assembly immediately began in Germany and Russia.

She received a redesigned front end of the body, an innovative lighting system, a modified rear bumper and a large flat screen in the cabin. Also, the rear seat can now be folded in proportions of 40 to 20 to 40. The BMW X5 of our assembly is offered in four trim levels. They are named xDrive25d, xDrive30d, xDrive40d and xDrive35i. Three of them are available with diesel engines, and one with gasoline.

How is the assembly of the BMW X5 at a German plant

Most buyers of BMW X5 dream of having an SUV assembled not in Kaliningrad, but in Germany. Fortunately, this is possible, because most of the cars exhibited in Russian car dealerships are made there. And now we will tell you exactly how jeeps are produced there. By the way, anyone can see it with their own eyes. After all, a visit to the plant is absolutely open for everyone.

Let's say right away that all the parts for the crossover are made in Germany. But, the rear optics are manufactured by an enterprise in Italy, the wheels are supplied from Sweden, the gearboxes are brought from Japan, and the leather for the interior is from South Africa. The entire car is assembled in Munich.

The huge multi-storey building consists of four cylinders, which are connected by passages. There is a showroom next to it where you can see the history of the company. You can enter here absolutely free. The production employs about 6,700 people, and they produce more than 170 thousand cars a year.
The territory of the plant is several hundred hectares. There is a painting, welding and assembly shop. Also, the engineers made a section of the track where cars are checked.

There are no workers in the pressing shop. Only robots work here. Metal rolls are delivered here. Under the press, it turns into finished parts. Control here is done by computers.

Then everything is delivered to the welding shop. Here the stamped parts are welded by the same robots. From here comes the finished body, which is given over to galvanizing and priming. It is painted with manipulators that can open the trunk lid, hood and doors. Our factories can only dream of this. After all, cars are painted non-stop in different colors. The air temperature here ranges from 90 to 100 degrees Celsius. The fact is that the body has a minus charge, and the paint is plus. Therefore, the coating fits perfectly. Next, the painted body is sent to the oven. It dries there.

The assembly shop is the first place to see people. More than 90% of operations are performed by them. There are only 10 robots here. They install heavy machines. First, the engines are mounted, then the suspension is assembled, and then the electrics are installed. At the end, the interior is done, such as the seats, center panel and carpet.

Of course, computers help people at this stage. Each car has a compiled map with a list of complete sets. If even one mistake is made, the whole process stops. So much for German precision.

The last stage is a test drive. It takes about 32 hours for one car. After the performance of the model is checked, exactly 22 liters of fuel are poured into the tank and sent to the warehouse. From there it is directed to the consumer, that is, to the car dealer.

Foundation of the company

From war to war

Throughout the First World War, BMW produced aircraft engines that are badly needed by the belligerent country. But after the end of the war, under the Treaty of Versailles, Germany was prohibited from producing aircraft engines and the company was forced to look for other niches. The company has been manufacturing pneumatic brakes for trains for some time. After the merger in 1922, the company moves to the BFW production facilities near Munich Oberwiesenfeld Airport.

In 1923, the company announces its first motorcycle, the R32. Up to this point, BMW has only produced engines, not the whole vehicle. The basis of the motorcycle was a boxer engine with a longitudinally located crankshaft. BMW became an automaker in 1928 by purchasing Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach, based in Eisenach, Thuringia. Together with the BMW plant, a license from the Austin Motor Company is obtained to manufacture the small car Dixi. Until the 40s, all cars of the company were produced at the plant in Eisenach. Since 1933, the aircraft industry in Germany has received significant financial support from the state. In 1936, the company creates one of the most successful pre-war sports car models in Europe - the BMW 328.

During the Second World War, BMW focuses entirely on the production of aircraft engines for the German Air Force. In addition to the factories in Munich and Eisenach, additional production facilities are created. After the end of the war, BMW is on the brink of survival, factories are destroyed, equipment is dismantled by allied troops. In addition, a three-year production moratorium was introduced in connection with the company's participation in the supply of military equipment.

Rebirth of the company

In March 1948, the first post-war motorcycle, the R24, was created, a modified version of the pre-war R32. The motorcycle had a rather weak engine, post-war restrictions affected. Lack of materials and equipment caused a delay in the start of series production until December 1949. However, the success of the model exceeded all expectations.


The first post-war car was produced in 1952. It was a luxury six-seater sedan with a modified six-cylinder engine, which stood on the pre-war 326. As a car, the 501 did not have much commercial success, but restored BMW's status as a manufacturer of high-quality and high-tech cars.

Due to the commercial failure of the BMW 501, by 1959 the company's debts had grown so much that it was on the verge of ruin and received an offer from Daimler-Benz for a takeover.

But at the general meeting of shareholders, held on December 9, this proposal was rejected. The confidence of small shareholders and the collective in the success of the new mid-range sedan model prompted Herbert Quandt to increase his stake in the company.

The 1500 was unveiled at the 1962 Frankfurt Motor Show. It was, in essence, the creation of a new niche for semi-sports cars and restored BMW's reputation as a successful and modern company. The public liked the new four-door sedan so much that orders exceeded production capacity. By the mid-60s, the Munich plant completely ceases to cope with the flow of orders and the BMW management is forced to make plans for the construction of new plants. But instead, the company buys the crisis-ridden Hans Glas GmbH, together with two production sites in Dingolfing and Landshut. On the basis of the site in Dingolfing, one of the largest BMW factories in the world was subsequently built. In addition, in order to relieve the factory in Munich, in 1969 the production of motorcycles was transferred to Berlin, and the 5th series of motorcycles created in the early 70s will be produced only at this site.

Towards new horizons

In 1971, a subsidiary division of BMW Kredit GmbH was created, whose task was to provide financial operations for both the company itself and numerous dealers. The new company was the first stone in the foundations of the finance and leasing business, which greatly contributed to the success of BMW in the future.


In the 70s, the company creates the first models from which the famous 3, 5, 6, 7 series of BMW cars began. 1972 begins construction of a plant in South Africa, the first plant outside Germany, and on May 18, 1973, the company officially opens its new headquarters in Munich. The construction of the new office began in the early 70s, the architectural solution was later called nothing else but a four-cylinder office. The company's museum is located next door.

Also in 1972 BMW Motorsport GmbH will be separated from the company - this division unites all areas of the company in the field of motorsport. Sales Director Bob Lutz spearheaded a new sales policy whereby starting in 1973 it was the company itself, not the importers, who took over the distribution of the main markets. In the future, it was planned to separate the sales divisions into subsidiaries. As planned, the first sales division was opened in France in 1973, followed by other countries, bringing BMW to the global market.

In 1979 BMW AG and Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG form a joint venture for the production of motors in Stair, Austria. In 1982, the plant was completely taken over by the company and was renamed BMW Motoren GmbH. The following year, the first diesel engine rolled off the assembly line. Today this plant is the center for the development and production of diesel engines in the group.

In 1981 BMW AG creates a division in Japan. On November 26, 1982, a decision was made to build a new plant in Regensburg to reduce the load on the main production in Munich. The plant was opened in 1987.

BMW Technik GmbH was founded in 1985 as a division for the development and development of advanced technologies. Mergers and acquisitions

In early 1994, the Board of Directors endorsed the Supervisory Board's decision to purchase the British car manufacturer Land Rover in order to expand the range. With the acquisition of the company, BMW AG controls such famous brands as Land Rover, Rover, MG, Triumph and Mini. The company is actively embarking on the integration of the Rover Group into the BMW Group. However, the hopes placed on the merger did not come true and in 2000 the company sells the Rover group, leaving only the Mini brand.

In July 1998, the concern acquired a piece of automotive history. After lengthy negotiations, the company receives the rights to the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars brand from Rolls-Royce PLC. Looking to the future

At the turn of the century, the concern is revising its development strategy in order to strengthen its position and create a foundation for future achievements. Since 2000, BMW AG has decided to focus exclusively on the premium segment of the international car market with the brands BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce. The company's lineup is expanding with new series and versions. In addition to the X-series SUV, the company develops and launches the premium compact BMW 1 Series in 2004.

After being sold to the Rover Group in 2000, BMW retains control of the modernized plant that produces the Mini. The initial plans for the production of 100,000 vehicles per year, driven by global demand, by 2007 reach 230,000 vehicles. In August 2007 BMW Motorrad takes over the production of motorcycles under the Husqvarna brand. This Swiss company, founded in 1903, has a long tradition and allows BMW AG to expand its product range with road bikes. The headquarters, development, production and sales and marketing departments of the Husqvarna brand remain in their original location in the northern Italian region of Varese.

In total, 75% of Russian-assembled BMWs are sold on the Russian market. The production is organized according to the MKD scheme, i.e. finished and painted bodies come from abroad, and the rest of the assembly takes place in Russia. BMW history

The BMW concern was born in 1917 and initially produced aircraft engines and motorcycles. One of the founders of the company was Gustav Otto, the son of the inventor of the internal combustion engine, Nikolaus Otto.
The fate of this enterprise was interesting. Three times Bmw stood on the verge of complete disappearance. For the second time after the partition of Germany in 1945 (after the Second World War), the concern just remained at a broken trough, i.e. no production. All BMW factories were dismantled and disassembled.
