Removal, replacement, installation of a timing belt. Self-replacement of the timing belt Daewoo Matiz: instructions, photos and videos Installing the timing belt on the Matiz

There are two types of timing drive: belt and chain. The advantages of a belt drive are low noise levels, simplified engine design and reduced engine weight. However, the service life of the belt is short and on average does not exceed 60 thousand kilometers, in contrast to the chain, the service life of which is more than 100,000 kilometers. The vast majority of chain-driven motors have automatic chain tensioning.

Broken and sheared belt teeth are the most common belt drive failures. The consequences of a broken belt are related to the design of the engine. If the timing belt breaks, the valves will certainly meet with the pistons, which at best will lead to deformation of the valve stems. To replace the bent valve stems together with the valve stem seals, it is necessary to dismantle the cylinder head. If the belt breaks at idle speed, 2-3 valves will need to be replaced; if in operating modes - up to replacement of all valves. If the guide bushings are cracked, the cylinder head will need to be repaired.

Often, when replacing a belt, it is overtightened, which can negatively affect its condition: the more the belt is stretched, the faster the cords will break. A weakened belt will also not walk for a long time: its vibrations lead to off-design loads on the teeth at the points of descent and entry onto the pulley (the belt teeth do not fall into the grooves of the pulley teeth). Undercut and subsequent separation of the teeth from the base is inevitable.

For the belt to run for a long time, you need to ensure that the belt is correctly tensioned. It is important that the belt tensioning mechanism works properly. Another condition for the normal operation of the belt drive is the ease of rotation of all shafts. If one of them rotates tightly or with uneven force (sticks), then before installing a new belt, you must eliminate the cause of the jam. It is important to make sure that there are no oil leaks that can get on the belt. If this happens, you need to fix the leak, wash the belt and pulleys from oil, and best of all, replace the belt. Always keep the belt drive clean.

Replacing the timing belt, abbreviated timing belt, is performed if cracks, tears and other damage are found in it. In addition, according to the manufacturer's recommendation, the Daewoo Matiz car is advised to replace the timing belt every 90,000 kilometers, regardless of its condition. It is quite possible to replace the timing belt on the Daewoo Matiz with your own hands. And to make it more convenient to carry out this procedure, it is best to drive the car onto an overpass or put it on a pit in the garage and remove the mud shield in the front wheel arch.

The figure shows a diagram of the timing drive (gas distribution mechanism): 1 - crankshaft toothed pulley; 2 - tension roller; 3 - toothed pulley of the coolant pump; 4 - toothed pulley of the camshaft; 5 - timing belt.

1 - Using a key "10", unscrew the 4 bolts securing the upper timing belt cover (one of the bolts is not visible in the photo, as it is on the other side of the cover).

2 - Remove the top cover. And then, using the head on "17", turn the crankshaft clockwise and visually check the condition of the belt. When replacing the belt, install the piston of the 1st cylinder in the BMT at the end of the compression stroke (shown in the same article about adjusting the thermal clearances). Remove the engine oil level indicator from the guide tube. Remove the power steering pump drive belt and alternator drive belt.

3 - Holding the crankshaft with a screwdriver from turning, inserting between the flywheel teeth through the hole in the lower part of the clutch housing, ...

4 -… unscrew the bolt securing the crankshaft pulley using the head on "17".

5 - Remove the pulley.

6 - Unscrew the fastening bolt of the bracket for the guide tube of the engine oil level indicator using the socket on "10".

7 - Remove the guide tube for the oil level indicator.

8 - Unscrew the 3 bolts securing the lower cover of the timing belt with the head on "10".

9 - Remove the lower timing belt cover.

10 - To loosen the timing belt tension, loosen the tension roller bolt using the “12” head.

11 - Applying force to the tension roller (direction indicated by the arrow in the photo), turn the roller relative to the fixing bolt, overcoming the roller spring force. While holding the roller in this position, tighten the bolt.

12 - You can also loosen the timing belt tension by disconnecting the tension roller spring from the screw head with pliers and loosening the roller mounting bolt.

13 - Remove the timing belt from the crankshaft toothed pulley and tensioner pulley.

14 - Remove the timing belt. When the timing belt is removed, it is impossible to turn the camshaft and crankshafts at large angles, this is necessary to avoid damage to the timing mechanism.

15 - The timing belt is marked with 109 teeth and a belt width of 25 millimeters.

16 - If necessary (if severe wear or damage to the teeth is found), remove the toothed pulley from the toe of the crankshaft. To remove the idler roller, disconnect its spring from the coolant pump screw head and completely unscrew the roller bolt.

17 - Remove the tensioner roller with spring.

18 - In the photo you can see the tension roller with the spring already removed. The roller should rotate evenly, quietly and without jamming. If this is not the case, as well as when traces of grease appear from under the bearing cups, it is necessary to replace the tension roller with a new one. Install a new timing belt in reverse order.

19 - In the hole in the oil pump housing for the guide tube of the oil level indicator, remove the old ring from the hole and install a new ring in its place.

20 - When installing the tensioner roller, insert its axle into the hole in the oil pump housing. Tighten the tensioning roller mounting bolt, but do not tighten.

21 - Before installing the belt, check the alignment of the marks on the camshaft pulley and the rear cover of the timing belt, as well as on the crankshaft toothed pulley and the oil pump housing.

If the marks do not match, you need to turn the crankshaft and camshaft until the marks match. Install the timing belt first on the camshaft pulley and then on the crankshaft. Put the timing belt behind the tension roller and put it on the coolant pump pulley, while the front section of the belt must be tensioned. Using pliers or a screwdriver, tighten the spring of the tension roller and bring its bent end behind the head of the screw screwed into the hole in the coolant pump housing. Turn the crankshaft by the pulley bolt two turns clockwise and check the alignment of the marks on the crankshaft toothed pulley and the oil pump housing, as well as the coincidence of the marks on the camshaft toothed pulley and the rear timing belt cover. Tighten the tension roller mounting bolt to the required torque. Install all previously disassembled parts in reverse order.

Required tools: key 10; heads for 10, 12, 17; screwdriver, pliers.

Car maintenance requires periodic replacement of the timing belt. On a Daewoo Matiz car, the manufacturer recommends doing this operation every 60 thousand kilometers or every 6 years of operation. However, not all drivers adhere to these recommendations, waiting for the moment when the belt simply breaks.

Most often, timing belt wear manifests itself in the presence of suspicious sounds from the engine compartment, intermittent engine operation, or when the engine stalls and does not start. In addition to physical damage to the belt, it may become oily with the same “symptoms”.

Before starting work, you need to prepare a set of open-end wrenches, as well as several corresponding heads, a screwdriver with a straight blade and a Phillips (Phillips) screwdriver. The car, best of all, will be driven onto an overpass or pit.

Before replacing a worn part, you need to access it. So, after setting the car on an overpass, dismantle the fender liner belonging to the arch of the right front wheel. Next, we can work with the upper timing cover, which can be accessed from under the hood. It is held in place by four screws that will need to be unscrewed with a size ten wrench. Three screws are located in the field of view, and the fourth can be reached from the opposite side of the case.

The top timing cover can now be removed. Turn the crankshaft slightly clockwise. Thus, we can examine the belt and find out if it has defects. Having found any abrasions (it can be small cracks that are easy to find when turning the belt), we proceed to replace it. If everything is in order and there is no oil on the belt, you can reinstall the timing cover.

It looks like a tensioned and undamaged timing belt

The piston of the first cylinder is installed at TDC. Next, we remove the oil level dipstick. After that, it is necessary to remove the drive belt from the pump in cars with power steering, if present (typical only for some configurations). Now we can already remove the drive belt related to the generator.

Carefully unscrew the crankshaft pulley mounting bolt. It is important to remember that a screwdriver or other suitable object is used to secure the crankshaft from possible rotation. It is inserted into a suitable location at the rear of the clutch housing.

After that, we will need to remove the pulley, as well as unscrew the bolt by means of which it is secured. It holds the oil dipstick guide tube bracket. Now, this very tube will need to be picked up. The effort required for this is small, since you can overdo it and damage it.

We unscrew the 3 bolts that secure the lower timing cover. As a result, we can dismantle the rear timing case cover, opening full access to the gas distribution mechanism.

Unscrew the mounting bolt holding the tensioner roller slightly so that the timing belt can be removed later. Rotate this idler roller against the mounting bolt. Be prepared for the fact that this will be quite difficult due to the slight resistance of the spring connected to it.

While holding the rollers, tighten the bolt well. After that, it will be possible to easily remove the belt, both from the toothed pulley and from the nearby tension roller. Just pull it towards you a little and lift it up. The old belt has been removed.

Remove the valve cover and timing belt cover from the engine

Installing a new belt

In order to install a new belt, you will need to completely remove the toothed pulley from the toe of the crankshaft. Now you can also remove the tension roller spring, which is located on the screw head of the pump that pumps the coolant. We unscrew the fastening bolt holding the tension roller and take out the specified roller complete with its spring.

Please note that if there is noise when scrolling the roller, it will also need to be replaced. In addition, find the O-ring in the opening of the oil pump housing, which belongs to the guide tube (it indicates the oil level). Examine it carefully for defects. If you notice any problems with him, then the ring will also need to be replaced.

Next, we check the marks on the camshaft pulley and in the rear cover of the timing belt. They must match. Also, you will need to install the crankshaft toothed pulley with the oil pump casing according to its own marks.

After completing the calibration, we begin the assembly, which is an exact copy of the disassembly, only in the reverse order. All of the above applies to such an action as replacing the timing belt on a Matiz car with an engine capacity of 0.8 liters.

Pay attention to the correct installation of the new belt

Important notes

When working, do not allow the crankshaft and timing mechanism to turn. It is only a matter of significant rotation when the timing belt is removed. Otherwise it may damage the timing. The characteristics of the timing belt indicate that it has a width of 25 mm, and the number of teeth on it is 107. It must be changed only if there is damage or after the expiration of the period specified by the manufacturer.

Change the timing belt to Daewoo Matiz 0.8 F8CV

(votes: 2, average: 5.00 out of 5)

We have been waiting for this for a long time and finally he came to us, we meet the three-cylinder beast Daewoo Matiz, replacement of the timing belt and roller. The engine capacity is 0.8 liters, the speedometer shows almost 40,000. Since the car had just been bought, the owner decided to play it safe, and rightly so, because no one can guarantee that the speedometer is what it is in life.

There is very little space under the hood and this is the only problem. To replace the ShRM belt, we need three heads for 10, 12, 17 and the same keys. Straight arms, a keen eye and about two hours of free time are also useful.

First, let's examine the beast. It seems to me that the designers made it from some Japanese cartoon character.

We remove all unnecessary

To get to the timing belt, we will need to remove two belts, a generator and a power steering with air conditioning. First, we loosen the two bolts twelve securing the power steering pump. One in the back.

One in front.

We move the pump to the cylinder block and remove the belt. Next, loosen the two lower generator bolts.

And one top one.

We also move the generator to the block and remove the belt. Next, dismantle the upper timing belt cover by unscrewing the four bolts. It will not be easy to unscrew the lower left one, since the hoses get in the way and there is very little space, I remembered three times the mother of all Uzbeks while unscrewing it.

We expose the top dead center. We turn the crankshaft hourly hand until the mark on the camshaft sprockets and the protective casing coincide.

On the lower timing belt cover and the crankshaft pulley, the marks should also match. Shown in the removed parts for ease of reference.

We unscrew the crankshaft pulley. To block the engine, we turn on the fifth gear, tighten the handbrake all the way, put stops under the two wheels and tear off the bolt with a light movement of the one and a half meter lever. Turn off the speed. After that, the mark on the camshaft pulley may run away a little, it must be set again.

Remove the crankshaft pulley. To remove the lower timing belt cover, you must dismantle the oil dipstick, as it interferes with unscrewing one of the bolts. We unscrew one bolt of the probe, take it out, then unscrew the four protective covers and remove it.

We remove the timing belt by unscrewing and removing the tension roller along with the spring.

There is also a mark on the crankshaft sprockets, it should coincide with the outflow of the oil pump.

Check all the labels again. We put the tension roller in place together with the spring, we fall into the hole with the guide pin, and we do not put the bolt yet, this will give us the opportunity to pull the roller further when installing a new belt. We put on a new timing belt first on the camshaft sprocket and fix it with a plastic clamp so that it does not jump off in the future. Do not forget about the direction of rotation on the belt.

Next, we put it on the crankshaft sprocket and make sure that the right branch of the belt is tensioned, then on the tension roller and the pump. We put the tension roller bolt, do not tighten it. A few degrees, without much effort, we turn the camshaft counterclockwise, thereby slightly tightening the right branch of the belt. We check with our hand whether the spring has pulled the tension roller, try to move it towards the belt, and then tighten the roller. Remove the clamp and turn the crankshaft two turns. We check the marks and belt tension, with two fingers we try to turn it ninety degrees, if it turns more, then it is necessary to tighten the timing belt. If everything coincides and the tension is normal, install all the parts in the reverse order of removal. Well, if not, we repeat all over again.

Attention! When replacing the timing belt with a Daewoo Matiz, more than one auto master did not suffer, all the tricks were performed by professionals, you can repeat!

How to change the timing belt on a Daewoo Matiz

You will need

  • - keys set;
  • - screwdrivers;
  • - chisel;
  • - timing belt and roller.

Instructions

Prepare your vehicle for repairs. It is advisable to change the timing belt on the inspection pit, lift, or overpass. First of all, remove the fender from the front arch. The dimensions of the car are so small that the engine and all attachments are packed very tightly under the hood. Therefore, it is more convenient to carry out repairs with the wing removed. Now, with a 10 key, unscrew the four bolts that secure the top cover to the unit. Then remove the cover.

Examine the belt by turning the crankshaft clockwise. See if the edge of the belt is eaten. If it has even wear, it indicates that it slips and clings to the roller. The cause of the belt slipping is usually the pump. The bearing in it fails, play appears, causing the pump pulley to tilt slightly to the side. It is advisable that when replacing the timing belt, the pump is also replaced. This will save you from too frequent repairs in the timing unit.

Remove the dipstick that monitors the oil level. Then set the piston of the first cylinder to top dead center. There is a mark on the camshaft pulley that must be aligned with the mark on the cylinder head. In this case, the mark on the crankshaft must match the mark on the clutch block. When viewed from below, you will see an inspection window in the clutch housing, through which you can see the marks on the crankshaft.

Disconnect the accessory drive belts. First, remove the belt driving the power steering pump, then remove the alternator belt. Next, unscrew the crankshaft pulley mounting bolt and remove it. To prevent the crankshaft of the Matiz engine from turning, hold it with a screwdriver inserted into the viewing window of the clutch housing. A chisel can also be used if a strong screwdriver is not available. The main thing is to fix the crankshaft in place by holding it by the ring teeth. Remove the bolt securing the dipstick tube bracket to the engine block. Then move the tube aside. Then unscrew the bolts securing the bottom cover and remove it. Unscrew the roller mounting bolt and turn the latter to release the belt tension. Remove the timing belt. Try not to turn the shafts, otherwise the valves will malfunction.

Install a new belt, first check the coincidence of all marks on the shafts. When changing the timing belt, be sure to install a new roller, because its service life is rather short. Turning the roller, achieve the required timing belt tension. Try not to overtighten as this will lead to rapid wear. A weak tension can cause the belt to move one or two teeth. Then reassemble everything in reverse order.

We change the timing belt for a Daewoo Matiz with our own hands

Car maintenance includes replacing the timing belt. To do this, you can visit a service station, but you can save money if you master this procedure yourself. How the Daewoo Matiz timing belt is replaced is described in an article with detailed instructions and video.

The timing belt is a rubber rim with an inner surface in the form of teeth, which contributes to better adhesion to the gears, eliminates slippage when the engine is running. The purpose of this component is to synchronize the operation of the camshafts and crankshafts.

The durability and safety of the engine depends on the quality of the material. Breaking a belt while driving can have serious consequences, especially for 16-valve engines. In the event of a break, the valve may bend, the pistons deteriorate and the surface of the cylinders will be scratched, which will require a major overhaul of the motor or its replacement.

For each car, the manufacturer sets its own terms for maintenance, which are indicated in the operating instructions. For Daewoo Matiz, it is recommended to replace the timing belt after 18 months or after 60 - 80 thousand kilometers. But do not neglect the regular scheduled inspection of the condition of the strap, which is performed either once a year or after 20 thousand kilometers. It is necessary to change the product if:

  • cracks, tears, creases appeared;
  • frayed edges;
  • the fabric is delaminated;
  • there are traces of oil;
  • the service life has ended.

Step by step instructions for replacement

The replacement procedure is performed on a cold engine. To carry out the work, it is better to drive the machine onto an overpass or a viewing groove.

Tools

To work you need to prepare:

For a 0.8 liter engine, a timing belt 96352965 with 107 teeth and a width of 25.4 mm is available. For a one-liter power unit - 96610029 with 109 teeth and a width of 25 mm. It is imperative to change the tension roller, the original number of which is 94580139. If you need to change the pump of the cooling system, then the original number of the consumable is 96518977 (Hepu 799).

Video "Replacing the timing belt on the Daewoo Matiz"

Many Daewoo Matiz owners were faced with the need to replace the timing belt. In a car service, this operation is quite expensive. We will try to figure out how to carry out the procedure with our own hands, and also consider which chains are suitable besides the original part.

Video

The video will tell and clearly show the process of replacing the timing mechanism with a Daewoo Matiz.

Replacement procedure

Before proceeding directly to the replacement process, it is necessary to understand that this procedure is quite difficult and will require a significant amount of time. So, it is recommended to study the technological schemes, as well as the design features of the motor. Next, we will collect the necessary tools for the replacement.

Timing marks.

Let's consider in what sequence it is worth carrying out operations to change the timing belt on the Daewoo Matiz:

Despite the fact that the parts under the hood are located tightly to each other, there are no problems with access to components and assemblies.

  1. We remove the negative terminal from the battery.
  2. We unscrew the upper fasteners of the timing belt cover.

    With a 10 head, remove the upper protective cover that covers the timing belt.

  3. We loosen the drive belt tensioner.

    Remove the top cover, then loosen the tension of the drive belts of the generator, power steering, air conditioner and remove them.

  4. Dismantle the front right wheel and wheel arch liner.

    To gain access to the bottom of the engine, hang up and remove the right front wheel, as well as the protective cover behind it.

  5. We expose labels on the camshaft.

    We remove the hinged belts and set the marks. Camshaft pulley mark.

  6. The labels must match.

    On the generator drive pulley, we see a risk, which should coincide with the 0 mark on the lower timing case cover.

  7. Unscrew the crankshaft pulley mount.

    We unscrew the crankshaft bolt and remove the attachment drive pulleys.

  8. We remove the tube and the oil dipstick.

    To remove the lower belt, the tube and the oil dipstick are removed. The cover is fastened with bolts with a head of 10, remove it.

  9. Remove the belt.

    Timing belt and tensioner pulley used in the photo report. We put a new belt and roller.

  10. We carry out the assembly in the reverse order.

    Since the tension roller is semi-automatic and the belt tension is set by the roller spring, it is only necessary to tighten the fixing bolt during installation with a torque of 15 to 23 Nm.

In this car, if the timing belt breaks on the move, the valve bends, besides, there are also guide bushings for replacement.

The process of replacing the timing belt Daewoo Matiz may seem difficult, and therefore it is worth calculating your strength. If the car enthusiast is not sure, then it is recommended to contact a car service for operations. On average, the change process can take from 1 hour to 3 hours.

Part selection

General Motors spare parts are installed on almost all Daewoo cars, including those made in Korea. At the same time, Matiz was no exception. The original timing belt for Daewoo Matiz has a catalog number - 96352965. The average cost in the automotive markets is about 2500 rubles.
