Technical characteristics of the car Ford Mondeo I, II, III, IV and V. Ford Mondeo III - model description Technological features and characteristics

11.02.2018

Ford Mondeo 3 (Ford Mondeo) - mid-size car of the European subsidiary of Ford. The struggle for leadership between representatives of the middle class business sedans is as follows - one clear favorite and a couple, to one degree or another, of successful classmates trying not to be inferior to him. Unlike competitors, Ford almost always managed to guess the mood and needs of buyers, thanks to this Mondeo was one of the best-selling cars in the segment for a long time. More than 10 years have passed since the production of this generation of the model was discontinued, but the car is still in strong demand in the secondary market, competing with younger domestically produced cars. But how justified the purchase of a used Ford Mondeo 3 will be and what troubles the owners of this already middle-aged car face during operation, now we will try to find out.

A bit of history:

The name "Mondeo" (from the French "Monde" - "world"), the car received due to the fact that it was originally assumed that its development will be engaged in design and engineering departments of the company "Ford" located around the world. However, the bulk of the work on the creation of the new model was entrusted to the branch of Ford Werke Gmbh, located in Germany. The debut of the first Mondeo (Mk I) took place in January 1993, and serial production started in March. The novelty was intended to replace the outdated Ford Sierra on the market. The car was assembled at the Ford plant in Genk (Belgium). The production of this generation lasted until 1996.

The second generation Ford Mondeo (Mk II) debuted in 1996, but many experts perceived the novelty as a deep restyling of the previous generation of the car. The main changes from the predecessor were: modernized power units, redesigned front and rear parts of the body and slightly modified front panel of the passenger compartment. In 1999, the lineup was replenished with a "charged" version of the Ford Mondeo ST200. The release of the second generation of this model lasted until 2000.

The premiere of Ford Mondeo 3 (Mk III) on the world market took place in 2000. This generation was very different from its predecessors, not only in large dimensions (it became longer and wider), but also in a new solid interior design. Despite the fact that the car belonged to the budget class of sedans, many experts highly appreciated the new product. During the production, the car was twice restyled (in 2003 and 2005), during which the line of power units and transmissions was updated. But the main emphasis was on changing the interior - each time they tried to make it more solid and comfortable. The production of the Ford Mondeo 3 was completed in 2007.

The debut of Ford Mondeo 4 took place in 2007. The novelty has become larger than its predecessor, not only externally, but also internally. The level of quality of interior finishing materials, as well as noise and vibration isolation, has significantly increased, and a lot of attention has been paid to active safety. Since March 2009, the car has been assembled at the Russian plant in Vsevolzhsk. In August 2010, a restyling was carried out, during which the hood, radiator grille, bumpers were changed, the optics were also improved and LED daytime running lights appeared.

The fifth generation of the model was introduced in early 2012 in North America. The novelty has many similarities with the concept Ford Evos (Fusion), which debuted at the Frankfurt Auto Show.

Weaknesses and disadvantages of Ford Mondeo 3 with mileage

It makes no more sense to talk about the quality of the paintwork, since most of the copies on the secondary market were repainted for one reason or another. If the car has not been painted yet, the paintwork will not be in the best condition, most often these are the consequences of minor damage (numerous chips, scratches). As for the corrosion resistance of the body, then, as a rule, serious problems do not arise, an exception may be cars of the first years of production - they begin to rust in hidden places (under the upholstery of the front of the cabin and trunk). You can also note the tendency to corrosion of wheel arches, sills, door edges and welds in the engine compartment. Also at risk are the exhaust system, side members, suspension attachment points, subframes and the subframe itself.

The main weak points of the body are plastic elements - bumpers, wheel arch liners and their fasteners. The problem is that with the arrival of the cold they tan and break even from a minor blow. Other drawbacks of the body include the unreliability of the door hinges - they sag. Over time, the windshield seal loses its tightness, because of this, in rainy weather, moisture enters the interior. Before buying, be sure to check whether the floor under the feet of the driver and passenger is not wet, since this defect was hardly eliminated before selling. The bonnet lock requires regular maintenance as it is susceptible to dirt and moisture. If you do not follow it (you need to regularly wash and lubricate it), there will be problems with its performance. Also, periodic lubrication is required on the trapezium wiper.

Power units

Ford Mondeo 3 was equipped with gasoline engines - 1.8 (110, 125 and 130 HP), 2.0 (145 HP), 2.5 (170 HP), 3.0 (204, 226 HP), and turbodiesel volumes of 2.0 (90, 116, 130 HP) and 2.2 (155 HP) liters. Among gasoline power units, in-line fours with a volume of 1.8 and 2.0 liters are considered the most common. Both units are reliable and rarely cause problems; closer to 250,000 km, replacement of the timing chain and its tensioners is required. Their main disadvantages include the following: the timing belt has a keyless landing of the stars. To carry out this work, a qualified specialist is required, if overtightening or not tightening the bolts, everything will end in expensive engine repairs. It should also be noted that there are no factory oversized pistons, therefore, during overhaul, you have to change the short block.

Before buying, listen to the operation of the engine, if in the area of the first cylinder you hear a rattling sound reminiscent of the knock of valves, most likely the damper in the intake manifold has worn out, replacement is only complete. For trouble-free operation of the engine, you need to monitor the condition of the spark plugs, since if they fail, the resource of the ignition coils and catalyst decreases. Of the weak points of the power units, one can note the unreliability of the fuel pump, thermostat, EGR valve. Some owners blame the difficulty of starting a cold engine. A car with a mileage of more than 200,000 km has an increased oil consumption due to problems with piston rings and valve seals. The manufacturer's declared resource of power units is 300-350 thousand km, but with proper maintenance, they can last 500,000 km.

Gasoline V6 engines with a volume of 2.5 and 3.0 liters are less common. These power units are not only very similar to in-line fours, but they have similar problems: a small resource of the gas pump and flaps in the intake manifold, and the plastic impeller of the cooling pump is also a weak point (when replacing it is recommended to give preference to a pump with a metal impeller). Among the disadvantages of power units, one can note the poor design of the cooling system (the probability of engine overheating is high) and high fuel consumption.

Diesel engines Ford Mondeo 3

Diesel engines are no less reliable than gasoline engines, but unlike them, they have more capricious fuel equipment. The TDCi turbo engines equipped with the Delphi system deserve special attention. When buying a car with such a system, there is a high probability of encountering a breakdown of the nozzles and the fuel pump, which, as a rule, ends with the repair of the entire injection system (the injection pump begins to drive metal chips). It is also worth mentioning the higher cost of maintenance, in addition, a significant part of European cars will be equipped with a particulate filter. Do not forget about the typical problems inherent in turbodiesel engines with high mileage - the EGR valve and the flow meter. By 150-200 thousand km, replacement of the dual-mass flywheel is required. To avoid big troubles, it is necessary to refuel only with high-quality diesel fuel and change the oil every 8-10 thousand km. Using the recommended SAE30 oil in an engine with a decent mileage may end up turning the piston liners (experts recommend using SAE40, or even SAE50).

Transmission

In the secondary market, Ford Mondeo 3 is available with the following gearboxes: 5 and 6-speed mechanics, as well as with 4 and 5-speed automatic. Failure of manual transmissions is an infrequent phenomenon, but given the middle age of the car, you need to be ready to replace the clutch, as a rule, its resource is 140-160 thousand km. But the four-speed automatic transmission CD4E is the complete opposite of the mechanics and has a lot of weaknesses. The oil pump delivers the most problems, since untimely diagnosis of its malfunction leads to early failure of the main transmission elements. It is also worth noting the weak solenoids in the valve body and the chain in the drive. Cases of failure and double drum are not uncommon. Despite the fact that the cost of most spare parts is relatively low, restoration of the transmission will not be cheap, and you should not count on the long resource of the repaired box. It is extremely rare that they nurture more than 150,000 km.

The Jatco five-speed automatic (JF506E) turned out to be much more reliable, but it also has a number of disadvantages. The most common ailment is rapid wear of the rubber piston seals and pressure control solenoid. As a rule, by 200,000 km you have to change the entire set of solenoids and the valve body plate. It is also worth noting the tendency of the box to overheat (weak heat exchanger), after which a whole bunch of problems can come out. The differential does not like heavy loads, therefore, for those who like to light up, it is at risk - the failure of the differential often leads to the destruction of the case and the failure of the automatic transmission.

Reliability of running Ford Mondeo 3 with mileage

The front suspension of the Ford Mondeo 3 is traditional for most modern cars - MacPherson, but the rear is the pride of Ford engineers - a multi-link with the steering effect. The weakest point of the suspension is the anti-roll bar, the original ones go 30-40 thousand km. The average resource of the bushings is 50-60 thousand km. Also, the front springs, shock absorbers and thrust bearings have a small resource - 70-90 thousand km, but the rear ones can last up to 150 thousand km. Ball joints run 100-120 thousand km, in the original they change only in assembly with a lever, which significantly increases the cost of repair. Silent blocks can withstand up to 150,000 km. In the rear suspension, the shock absorber springs are considered a weak point - the extreme turns break off. You can also note the not very hardy levers, but despite this, they nurture more than 100,000 km of neat drivers.

In the steering system, the steering rack is not famous for its reliability (it starts knocking closer to 120,000 km, and by 200-250 km it can start to "bite" the steering wheel) and the power steering pump, fortunately, the replacement cost is not too high. To extend the resource of the rack and the pump, you should adhere to two rules - do not turn the wheels in place and do not hold the steering wheel for a long time in the extreme position. The rest of the steering elements are reliable and have a good resource. So, for example, steering tips travel on average 80-100 thousand km, thrust - 120-150 thousand km. Mondeo 3 has responsive brakes, designed for high speeds, but not designed for our dirt, it is this that causes the rapid wear of discs and pads. If you do not use the handbrake, over time, corrosion will start to affect its cable sheath. If there is a problem, a sharp jerk of the parking brake can lead to deformation of the fasteners or the brake pad drive mechanism. Also, on cars over 12 years old, brake lines and calipers suffer from corrosion.

Salon

The quality of the trim materials of the Ford Mondeo 3 interior is average - some plastic elements are easily scratched and often creak annoyingly. Of the weak points of the cabin, one can note the rapid wear of the handle pads, the unreliability of the lumbar support of the front seats, and the frame itself is not designed for dimensional drivers. Despite the small amount of electronics, by modern standards, there are some drawbacks here. Of the minor troubles, one can note a dying climate control display, malfunctions of the central lock (replacement of microswitches is required) and power windows. A much more serious breakdown is the failure of the passenger compartment fan and malfunctions of the climate control unit.

Outcome:

Despite the fact that the Ford Mondeo 3 is not without flaws, in this price segment (up to $ 5000) it is one of the most interesting options in the secondary market. The best option for the purchase is a restyled copy with a two-liter engine paired with mechanics. Given the age of the car, its full diagnosis is not desirable, but a mandatory procedure, which in the future will help to save more than one hundred dollars.

If you are the owner of this car model, please describe the problems that you had to face during the operation of the car. Perhaps it is your feedback that will help the readers of our site when choosing a car.

Back in 2000, Ford officially presented its new product - the third generation Ford Mondeo (Mk III). This model lasted on the assembly line right up to 2007, until it was replaced by Fourth generation mondeo ... Ford Mondeo 3 in production in three different bodies - sedan, liftback and station wagon. For seven years of its release, the model has gone through 2 restyling in 2003 and 2005. To a greater extent, the restyling process affected body parts such as bumpers, fog lights, taillights. Small changes were made to the interior details.

    Gasoline engines Ford Mondeo III:

In the third generation of the Mondeo model, it was decided to abandon the low-thrust 1.6 engines, so the minimum possible engine volume on this model starts from 1.8 liters. Four-cylinder 1.8 Duratec HE engines (models CGBA; CGBB; CHBA; CHBB) were installed from 2000 to 2007 and, depending on the modification, had either 110 or 125 hp. under the hood. This engine was developed by the Japanese Mazda, which had the designation MZR L8 (L813; L823; L828) with 115-120-125 hp. at 5300-5500-6500 rpm. and was installed on such cars as Mazda 5, 6 and MX5, respectively. Throughout its life, the 1.8 Duratec HE engine has been modernized with the introduction of such systems as: intake manifold channel control with a swirler, an electronically controlled throttle valve and direct ignition from ignition coils. In a modernized form, this engine was installed on such Ford models as the C-Max I and Focus II. In 2003, Ford presented a new 1.8 (CFBA) engine with the SCi (Smart Charge Injection) index, which already had direct fuel injection and produced 130 hp. at 6000 rpm.

    Ford Mondeo III 2000-2003

Motor Ford Mondeo 2.0 Duratec HE (CJBA; CJBB) 145 hp at 6000 rpm. are also identical to the Mazda MZR LF (LF17; LF18; LFF7). In fact, engines with volumes of 1.8 and 2.0 are the same in design, their main difference is only in the cylinder diameter of 83.0 mm. and 87.5 mm. respectively. If you choose from these two engines, then of course the unit with two liters of volume looks preferable - it is more traction, elastic, quieter and at the same time has exactly the same fuel consumption as the version with a volume of 1.8 liters. Both of these engines have a timing chain drive, a chain resource of 250-300 thousand km. Hydraulic lifters on these motors are not provided, therefore, every 150 thousand km, please, to replace the pushers.

Such attachments as a generator, thermostat, fuel pump and EGR valve require special attention in these motors. Do not save on good fuel and oil - the service life of well-maintained Duratec HE engines with volumes of 1.8 and 2.0 liters is about 450-550 thousand km. Owners of a 1.8-liter engine often complain about floating rpm when the engine is running, often this was due to either poor engine firmware or a dirty throttle valve.

    Ford Mondeo III 2003-2007

The 1.8 SCi engine is a rarity in the CIS, but it is safe to say that sooner or later the injection pump and fuel injectors will become its weak points - replacing the first with a new one will require $ 2500, replacing the second - $ 200 apiece. You can also mention the problems of the availability of the necessary spare parts due to the great rarity of this power plant.

    Ford Mondeo III Liftback 2003-2007

On the positive side, V6 six-cylinder engines with volumes of 2.5 and 3.0 liters have proven themselves. These engines are cousins of the Jaguar AJ-V6 series engines, namely the AJ25 and AJ30, which were installed on the Jaguar X-Type and S-Type. For Ford Mondeo there was one version of the 2.5L engine. is an LCBD model that produced 170 hp. at 6000 rpm. The three-liter power plant had two versions - this is the REBA model with a capacity of 204 hp. at 6000 rpm for the regular civilian version of Mondeo and MEBA with 226 hp. at 6250 rpm for the sports version ST220. As well as in-line fours, V6 engines have a timing chain drive, the resource of which is approximately the same 250-300 thousand km. The sores are about the same as on the younger brothers, but as an addition, we can say that, due to the not entirely successful cooling system, six-pot motors are prone to overheating. The resource of V6 engines reaches 500-600 thousand km. without major repairs.

    Diesel engines Ford Mondeo III:

There were four diesel engine options - 2.0 Duratorg TDDi (D5BA; SDBA) with 90 hp. at 4000 rpm., 2.0 Duratorg TDDi and TDCi (D6BA; HJBA; HJBB; HJBC) with 115 hp. at 4000 rpm, 2.0 Duratorg TDCi (FMBA; N7BA) with 130 hp at 3800 rpm. and a turbo diesel with a volume of 2.2 liters. Duratorg TDCi (QJBA; QJBB) 155 hp at 3500 rpm. On engines with the TDDi index, which were produced until 2003, the Bosch VP30 or VP44 rotary pump was responsible for direct fuel injection. Since 2003, the Common Rail system has been installed on engines with the TDCi index. The TDDi engine is structurally simpler and the TDCi engine more efficient. On diesels, everything is quite simple on the one hand ... but difficult on the other. Today, 2017 is in the yard and there is practically no chance of finding a good option with a diesel engine. A good option is when you do not need to invest in repairing the fuel system of a diesel Mondeo, because this will lead to significant financial losses. The stories of magazine specialists about burnouts of pistons, valves and rotated liners are nothing more than horror stories and isolated cases of completely neglected specimens. When refueling with a good diesel fuel, regular maintenance of a Ford Mondeo Mk3 with a diesel engine, its 200-250 thousand km. cares for in one go, but then, as a rule, a smut with a fuel system, a particulate filter and an EGR valve begins.

    Transmission Ford Mondeo III:

On the third generation Mondeo, two types of manual gearboxes were installed - MTX75 with five gears and MMT6 with six. Both options are extremely reliable and without opening they nurse more than 150-200 thousand km. It is very important to change the flywheel in one go when changing the clutch!

But automatic transmissions cannot boast of special reliability. Until 2003, as a four-speed automatic transmission on the Mondeo 3, a model was installed that began its production history as early as 1994, the Ford CD4E. The box "brake", the box has a number of design problems, first of all, it is a bad oil pump, weak solenoids in the valve body, an unsuccessful chain in the drive and a double drum. The only plus of this automatic transmission is cheap spare parts and the relatively low price of the repair itself. The average resource of this automatic transmission model is 100 thousand km, after the bulkhead, a lottery begins - the resource jumps from 50 to 100 thousand km.

    Ford Mondeo III 2001-2003

    Ford Mondeo III 2003-2007

With restyling, a new automatic transmission with five steps came - this is the Jatco 5F31J model (aka JF506E, JA5A-EL, 09A). This box was also installed on some models of Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan and Volkswagen cars. The resource of this automatic transmission with careful operation is about 150-200 thousand km. Of the sores of this automatic transmission, we can note the wear of the rubber seals of the pistons and the clogging of the pressure control solenoid with dirt.

Steering and suspension Ford Mondeo III:

The steering rack is able to hold out about 200-250 thousand km until it is replaced. The suspension is also very reliable, the first problems with silent blocks, strut supports, springs will occur no earlier than 100-150 thousand km. It should be mentioned that the rear suspension of the station wagon is structurally different from the suspensions of the liftback and sedan - it is stronger and more reliable.

Buying a Mondeo makes sense if you choose the version with a reliable engine. Only in this case it will be possible to fully enjoy a large and comfortable car at an affordable price. Together with the Ford Mondeo 3, you will get good driving performance, a wide range of affordable and inexpensive spare parts and ... corrosion!

In order not to regret anything in the future, it is better to prefer versions with gasoline engines, but not the 1.8 SCi. The bad reputation of Ford diesel engines does not contribute to the high demand for the 2.0 TDCi, such as, for example, the Volkswagen Passat with the beloved TDI. Nevertheless, it is quite possible to recommend versions 2.0 and 2.2 TDCi, but only the end of production. Although TDDi series engines are easier and cheaper to maintain, cars with them, as a rule, are already very "worn out".

In older copies, crankshaft oil seals often begin to leak. The diesel engines of the Duratorq series have had problems with the Delphi fuel equipment since the early days, but over time the extent of the defect has decreased significantly. In Ford diesels, the dual-mass flywheel often wears out prematurely. Replacement with a clutch kit will require at least 25,000 rubles.

All engines under the hood of Mondeo have a timing chain drive, which in most cases does not require maintenance up to 250-300 thousand km. The cost of a new set is about 8,000 rubles.

Typical engine malfunctions

Gasoline 1.8 l

Engines with a working volume of 1.8 liters are quite popular. But recommending them with a clear conscience is difficult. Motors with 110 and 125 hp. reliable enough. Like all engines in the Duratec family, they do not tolerate LPG operation well.

Avoid 130 hp SCi series motor. with direct fuel injection. This unit is rare, and therefore there are difficulties with the availability of spare parts. In general, the unit is reliable, but very sensitive to fuel quality.

Common problems with a 1.8-liter unit are related to the failure of the thermostat, fuel pump, EGR valve and the so-called idle speed valve stepper motor.

Don't count on very low fuel consumption. For example, the 125bhp variant handles the Mondeo's weight with confidence, but in order to go fast, you need to maintain high revs. Some owners complain about poor engine starting, especially "cold". There are also known cases of problems with piston rings and valve seals - all this increases oil consumption for waste. Repair, unfortunately, will not come cheap

Gasoline 2.0 l

It is the most versatile gasoline engine ever. Motor power 145 hp provides decent dynamics, and fuel consumption is not much higher than that of the 1.8-liter unit. Mondeo with 2.0 Duratec engine consumes on average a little more than 9 liters per 100 km.

There are no claims to reliability. Malfunctions, as in the case of the 1.8-liter engine, are associated with auxiliary equipment. For example, due to the EGR valve or the crankshaft position sensor. In older copies, the intake manifold flaps also fail.

You can try to fix some of the faults yourself. So cleaning the stepper motor does not require any special knowledge. In addition, prices for the main components are generally affordable, with the exception of EGR. It is not necessary to install equipment for operation on liquefied gas.

Ford Mondeo Mk.III 2000 - 2004

GasolineV6 2.5L and 3.0L

The six-cylinder engines of the Duratec family are considered successful and reliable. The most popular is the 170-horsepower version of the 2.5 L V6. But the engine consumes quite a lot of fuel - on average 10-11 l / 100 km, and at the same time does not dazzle with performance. 3.0L V6 engine with 204 HP more lively, but even more voracious than the 2.5-liter. The 220-horsepower version of the 3-liter unit was used on the sports model Mondeo ST.

Common V6 problems: failure of the fuel pump and flaps in the intake manifold, destruction of the impeller of the cooling system pump - it is better to replace it with a pump with a metal impeller.

When deciding on a 6-cylinder engine, higher operating costs must be taken into account. Spare parts themselves are not expensive, but the need for them is regular!

Diesel 2.0TDDI

The TDDi series engines were installed in the Ford Mondeo 3 only until the first restyling in 2003. Even then, they were not considered modern. So direct fuel injection was realized using a Bosch VP30 or 44 rotary pump. Engine performance is mediocre. Buying such a car today is a bad idea.

Firstly, you should not count on a mileage of less than 200,000 km. Secondly, the power plant has several serious design flaws. The dual-mass flywheel, pump and attachment drive pulley have very low durability. But in most cars, these defective components have long been replaced. Thus, the risk of a malfunction is significantly reduced, but this does not mean that TDDi can be completely trusted.

The 116-horsepower version of the motor provides higher performance. Average fuel consumption usually does not exceed 7 l / 100 km.

Diesel 2.0 and 2.2TDCi

These are the first Ford common rail diesel engines. TDCi - obtained as a result of the modernization of the 2.0 TDDi engine. Therefore, it is not surprising that they have common problems affecting durability.

2.0 TDCi 2001-2004 regularly suffered from injector failure. After a while, the high-pressure pump began to drive metal shavings and disable the injectors. The dual-mass flywheel also does not last long. In addition, there are typical problems typical for turbodiesels that have served - the EGR valve and the flow meter.

During the production process, Ford made efforts to address the 2.0 TDCi's vulnerabilities, and it should be recognized that the number of problems has been significantly reduced. Today prices for injectors are significantly lower than in the past - 23,000 rubles per piece.

The engines of the TDCi family have good performance, and the mileage is currently not as astronomical as the TDDi. The 2.0 TDCi engine is most often found in two modifications: 116 and 130 hp. The 90-horsepower version is very rare and not recommended due to its weak dynamics.

2.2 TDCi - Less popular, but definitely worth considering due to its good performance.

Ford Mondeo Mk.III 2004 - 2007

Transmission

The third Mondeo was equipped with a 5-speed mechanics (MTX75) and one of two automatic machines. The 4-speed CD4E was paired with a 2-liter petrol engine, while the 5-band Jatco F506E was paired with a 2.5-liter petrol and 2.0-liter diesel engine.

The mechanics are very reliable. The clutch has to be changed after 200-250 thousand km (8,000 rubles per set). The machine will last 250-300 thousand km, and after that it will require repairs - from 40 to 70 thousand rubles.

Other malfunctions

The body of a Ford Mondeo is quickly affected by rust. Try to find at least one copy with "healthy" wheel arches and door edges. We can assure you that it will not be easy. Ford was aware of the magnitude of the problem, but did nothing significant to dramatically change the situation for the better.

Rust attacked cars with equal force, both at the beginning and at the end of production. At risk of the chassis is the front belt, side members, the exhaust system, and the body - doors, wheel arches and the hood. So if you are planning to buy a Mondeo, be sure to put the car on a lift and accurately assess the condition of key components. Another common "cosmetic" defect is sagging bumpers.

Much less complaints about the suspension. On the front axle, the struts and anti-roll bar bushings wear out quickly, but this is quite normal. CV joints sometimes fail.

Ford Mondeo Mk.III 2000 - 2004

The rear suspension arms are quite tough. The sedan and hatchback versions may require replacement of the auxiliary beam cushions. The easiest way out of the situation is to replace the suspension components with more durable ones from the station wagon. Note also the breakage of the springs.

After 150-200 thousand km, the steering rack may knock or leak. And after 250-300 thousand km sometimes the steering wheel starts to "bite". In the latter case, it will not be possible to get off with the repair. The rail will have to be replaced - 20,000 rubles for an analog or 70,000 rubles for an original.

There are also problems with the electrician. So in 2003 on the agenda was the question of the unwillingness of the air conditioner to independently control the temperature in the cabin. The driver had to manually select the optimal mode. In addition, a generator failure (a defective voltage regulator - about 5-6 thousand rubles), a windshield wiper is possible, and sometimes the central locking is buggy.

Ford Mondeo Mk.III 2004 - 2007

The quality of the interior is average - some plastic elements look awful, easily scratched and often creak annoyingly.

Conclusion

A well-equipped, comfortable and spacious car for 200-300 thousand rubles is a tempting offer that excites the minds of many motorists. Unfortunately, a Ford Mondeo Mk III at this price tends to be bogged down and soon starts generating monstrously high maintenance costs.

To get real pleasure from owning such a car, it is recommended to find a young and well-maintained one with a 2.0 Duratec 145 hp gasoline engine.

Sales market: Europe.

Released in 2000, the third-generation Ford Mondeo hatchback underwent two updates. The first of them took place in June 2003 and was very thorough. The model has received many large and small changes in the exterior, interior and power section. Externally, the updated Ford Mondeo hatchback is easily recognizable by a new bumper with a large air intake, large trapezoidal fog lamps, a chrome-plated grille frame with a mesh pattern. The rear lights and side mirrors have also been updated. Even better materials were used in the interior, the dashboard was modernized, and a number of changes were associated with improved sound insulation. Additional changes were made to the exterior in September 2005 - a slight modification to the front and rear of the car.

The interior of the updated Ford Mondeo hatchback also received a number of changes. Of the most significant, you can list the following: for example, there is another frame with a clock and emergency warning buttons and turning on the heating of the rear and windshield, a different climate unit, the lower frame where the transmission lever is installed has also changed. In general, the third-generation Mondeo salon is distinguished by an increased quality of finishing, improved ergonomics. A sufficient number and range of adjustment of the driver's seat, as well as a steering column with adjustment in two planes, will allow you to get comfortable behind the wheel, and so that the legs of the rear passengers are not cramped, there are deep recesses in the backs of the front seats. In the standard configuration of the Core, the updated Mondeo hatchback offered only the most necessary (multifunction, power accessories, air conditioning, audio system), but for a surcharge, you could get alloy wheels, fog lights, heated washer nozzles and other equipment.

After restyling Ford Mondeo, in addition to the previous engines with a working volume of 1.8 liters (gasoline) and 2.0 liters (gasoline, diesel), as well as a 24-valve 2.5-liter V6, it received a new powerful gasoline version with 3.0- a liter V6 engine (204 hp) and a 2.2-liter TDCi diesel engine (155 hp). The most common variant that can be found on sale is the Mondeo 1.8 MT hatchback. With an engine power of 125 hp (179 Nm), it is capable of gaining a “hundred” in 10.9 seconds and a top speed of 205 km / h. There are also cars with a 2.0-liter engine (145 hp, 190 Nm) - here the possibilities are higher: 9.9 seconds for acceleration from 0-100 km / h and 215 km / h "maximum speed".

The hatchback Ford Mondeo 2003-2007 has independent suspension on all wheels. In all modifications, the car received a power steering and disc brakes (ventilated in front). The body dimensions of the Mondeo 2003-2007 hatchback are: length - 4731 mm, width - 1812 mm, height - 1429. The wheelbase of 2754 mm provides a good supply of space for rear passengers. The ground clearance is small - 120 mm. The hatchback has a boot capacity of 500 liters. The folding rear seats allow it to be increased to 1290 liters.

The third generation Ford Mondeo hatchback has an optimized body structure in terms of safety (4 stars Euro NCAP). Front airbags - with two-stage deployment, depending on the force of the impact and the position of the driver and passenger. In addition, the car received side airbags and inflatable curtains over the doorways. A safe pedal assembly, active head restraints, child seat anchorages, a seat belt warning system are all standard, along with anti-lock brakes (with electronic brake force control and auxiliary braking system) plus an optional stabilization system.

Ford Mondeo was often used as a corporate vehicle - this is a good reason to be more rigorous in checking the technical condition of the car. The back seat of the Mondeo is far from the best in the class. The chassis requires increased attention, in addition, the car has a low clearance (after hitting the curb, the lower skirt of the bumper may come off). Of the annoying "little things" are often called a breaking driver's seat height adjuster, an inconvenient opening of the hood. The body needs to be checked for corrosion. The next generation came out in 2007.

Sales market: Europe.

At the 2000 Paris Motor Show, Ford unveiled the next generation of Mondeo. It is still based on the Ford CDW27 platform developed for the 1993 model. However, the new Mondeo was the first Ford model to use computer simulation. The most modern design and engineering programs made it possible to make a complete modernization of the car, to extend the body (the wheelbase is increased by 50 mm) and even to take into account all kinds of anthropometric data when developing the interior, making the entry into the car and the structure of the seats as comfortable as possible. A feature of the exterior of the sedan has become a new corporate style, which has incorporated the most interesting findings in the design of the latest "Ford" models, including the new "Focus" and "Fiesta". The line of power units has been updated. The model said goodbye to the 1.6-liter engine, the basis of the series is now made up of new 1.8-liter (gasoline) and 2.0-liter (gasoline, diesel) engines with a capacity of 90-145 hp, and a 24-valve 170-hp 2 The 5-liter V6 remained from its predecessor, but was upgraded to Euro 4 requirements.

The interior of the third-generation Ford Mondeo sedan is distinguished by high-quality finishing materials, good ergonomics, it has become even more convenient to get behind the wheel - with the help of a sufficient range of adjustments for the driver's seat and steering column with two-dimensional adjustment. Not only did the increase in wheelbase allow the rear passengers to feel freer - this is also facilitated by the deep recesses in the backrests of the front seats and the slightly increased width of the cabin. The signature oval quartz clock on the center console adds its charm to the interior. In the most luxurious versions of Ghia, the dark top of the interior panels is adjacent to the light bottom, as well as metal inserts on the steering wheel spokes, watch rim, instrument cluster dials and other details. The top-end configuration also includes heated front seats and windshield, climate control, multifunction steering wheel, premium audio system and more.

The line of petrol Mondeo 2000-2003 in the sedan body is now opened by a modification with a 1.8-liter engine working with a 5-speed "mechanics" - its capacity is 125 hp. The more efficient 2.0 unit has a reserve of 145 hp, and there are two transmission options for it - “mechanics” or 4-band “automatic”. The rest of the engines are equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission - these are two diesel units 2.0 TDdi (90 hp) and 2.0 TDCi (115 hp) and a 2.5-liter Duratec 24v V6 (170 hp). The most powerful petrol version of the sedan is capable of reaching a top speed of 225 km / h, and it will take 8.3 seconds to accelerate from standstill to 100 km / h. Combined fuel consumption is 9.9 l / 100 km. For younger gasoline engines, it will be 7.7-9.4 l / 100 km. Diesel engines are noticeably more modest - 5.9 l / 100 km. The volume of the fuel tank is 58 liters.

The sedan Ford Mondeo 2000-2003 has an independent suspension of all wheels, while the suspension travels have increased compared to its predecessor. In all modifications, the car received a power steering and disc brakes (ventilated in front). The dimensions of the Mondeo 2000-2003 sedan body are: length - 4731 mm, width - 1812 mm, height - 1429 mm. The wheelbase of 2754 mm provides a good headroom for rear passengers. The ground clearance is small - 120 mm. The trunk volume of the sedan has increased by 30 liters compared to the previous Mondeo and is now 500 liters. Its length has increased from 960 to 1000 mm, with the rear seats folded down, it can accommodate cargo up to 1740 mm long, and the total volume reaches 1370 liters. Threshold height - 720 mm.

With the change of generations, the Ford Mondeo 2000-2003 sedan has become even safer. Computer simulations have made it possible to optimize the body structure to better absorb impact energy in a collision. Front airbags - with two-stage deployment, depending on the force of the impact and the position of the driver and passenger. In addition, the car received side airbags and inflatable curtains over the doorways. A safe pedal assembly, active head restraints, standard child seat mountings are all standard along with anti-lock brakes (with electronic brake force regulator and auxiliary braking system) plus an optional stabilization system.

Despite the increased wheelbase, the Mondeo is far from the best in the class in terms of rear room. In 2003, a small update of the model took place.
