I drove carefully at first, but after 1.5 thousand km Renault Koleos began to hint that he already wanted to go. And with respect to the absolute majority of participants in the movement, he really drove, slightly overtaking road trains and whole columns of trucks. He doesn't fly, of course. But if we are guided by the principle of sufficiency, then completely.

On the other hand, if future generations keep pace with the times as well, then everyone will forget about the first generation as a kind of misunderstanding.

The exterior, the interior, everything is at the highest level, the leather interior is like in all the photos and videos on the Internet, the CVT is an updated 7-speed X-tronic, the fuel consumption is lower compared to the previous car, it was 11.4 on the new 9.4, the driving mode is mixed ... Renault Koleos keeps the road well, about throttle response until I say 1300 km in total, because I don't "gas" much, at 2000 rpm the speed is 120 km in a straight line. The move is soft, but the square edges of the pits are certainly felt. The monitor is large, the Bose audio system has 11 speakers and a subwoofer counted, the audio is reproduced with high quality, support for photos and videos, video only in the parking lot, the phone clings without problems. Despite all the "disadvantages" I am satisfied with the purchase of Renault Koleos, there are more pluses than minuses. And the most important plus, a new car.

The manufacturer admitted that the renovation to which the car was subjected in 2011 was superficial and hasty, and therefore did not in any way affect the increase in consumer demand. In terms of technical equipment, Koleos has remained the same. The same 2.5-liter gasoline engine with 171 hp is working under the hood. This motor meets Euro-4 environmental standards. The multi-point injection system of 95 gasoline allows you to set the maximum torque at around 226 N * m, while the crossover has a maximum speed of under 200 km / h, and the dynamics of its acceleration to 100 km / h is 9.3 seconds (10.3 seconds with automatic transmission ). The engine is moderately economical and requires an average of 9.6 liters of gasoline per 100 km. But instead of a 150-horsepower two-liter diesel engine, they now decided to supply us with a car with a 173 hp engine. similar working volume. The peak torque here is 360 Nm, which allows you to reach a speed of 100 km / h in 11.9 seconds. In 2008, a new crossover was presented to the European market, which was tested in North Africa, this is Koleos. In fact, this is the second attempt by Renault to create an all-wheel drive car (the first attempt was one that was created ten years ago and around the same time it sank into oblivion, due to low demand), but now the French did differently - they did not create a "modified compact van" , and developed a new design.

The appearance of "Koleos" can be called quite harmonious, where everything: the profile, high ground clearance and wide wheel arches clearly testify to its good off-road qualities. And the beveled rear window underlines its dynamism (at least that's what Renault's chief designer thinks). But its front part is very reminiscent of "Clio", but this time the exterior design is completely lacking avant-garde and controversial elements (which distinguished the models of previous generations).

Inside Renault Koleos everything is "Spartan" simple, which emphasizes the off-road essence of the car. Its creators are confident that they have managed to achieve the best (among competitors) front visibility: 31 ° vertically and 36.3 ° horizontally, rear visibility also deserves praise - 27.5 ° (not a record, of course, but a very decent result). In addition, this model can boast of an outstanding cabin height - 946 mm (that is, rear passengers in "Koleos" do not experience any discomfort - there is plenty of space overhead and "in the shoulders".

To emphasize the off-road qualities and character of this car, the first test drive was carried out by a manufacturer in North Africa (Morocco). Naturally, these places are not "famous" for ideal roads and allowed to check the crossover "in an adult way."

In Africa, by the way, if someone doesn't know, it is very hot - and an overheated interior is not the best condition for a driver. But for Renault Koleos this is not a problem - we start the engine and fully turn on the dual-zone climate control (where there are separate air ducts for the rear passengers). In addition, the sun blinds in the rear doors are very helpful in protecting passengers from the heat.

When driving around the city, this car practically does not differ from a regular minivan, but Renault Koleos has good dynamics - its 2.5-liter gasoline engine is able to accelerate the crossover to 100 km / h in just 9.3 seconds. (note that at the start, it requires increased revs). Moreover, the crossover has a very rigid grip. Without the habit of driving, the engine stalls all the time, but after an hour or two you already get used to this feature. As for the maximum speed (which, unfortunately, was not achieved during the test), according to the passport it is equal to 185 km / h.

By the way, the team of Japanese-French-Korean engineers paid special attention to the soundproofing of the cabin. In the cabin of this car there is almost complete silence, which is not disturbed either on the asphalt or off-road. The main merit for this is the laminated windshield, a special engine subframe and the use of effective soundproofing materials on the engine shield, in the wheel arches and under the floor of the passenger compartment.

Off-road - and these are quite steep mountains, where trails instead of roads, and sharp stones crackingly crunch under the wheels - Renault Koleos is also at a height. In this situation, the all-wheel drive system (partially borrowed from the Nissan X-Trail) is activated. An inexperienced driver, in overcoming obstacles, will be helped by numerous auxiliary systems (All modeI, Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control), which will help to enter the hill and back down "without incident". Also, the "off-road ambitions" of this car are confirmed by 206 mm ground clearance. Attention should also be paid to the angles of entry and exit (27 ° and 31 °, respectively).
In short - in theory "Koleos" was ready for the African off-road ... and he confirmed his readiness in practice.

In creating this SUV, the engineers at Renault and Nissan tried to "cross an SUV, a minivan and a sedan." This time the "hybrid" turned out to be very successful. And, unlike many competitors, the Renault Koleos crossover is endowed with a brutal appearance (which many will like).
The Spartan salon is in perfect harmony with the exterior and adds charm to it. It is obvious that Renault has managed to offer the market something special and original - which, in any case, deserves at least attention ... and, in our opinion, praise.
