It's no secret that the debut model of Kia Seed is now one of the most significant achievements of the Korean company. The new generation of the car, which was presented to the public in 2012, has become even more successful. Kia Sid has become one of the most demanded cars in the world market.

Recently, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, a presentation of the updated car - Kia Sid 2017 model year took place. Car enthusiasts were very pleased with this news, especially since the novelty is offered in two body options - a hatchback and a station wagon.

The restyled version has brought many changes and improvements. To a greater extent, this concerns the exterior and technical characteristics of the Kia Ceed 2017. The interior remained almost the same as that of its predecessor.

The exterior of the novelty turned out to be truly magnificent. The handwriting of Korean designers is immediately noticeable, because the car looks quite bright and instantly attracts attention.

There are not many changes in the design of the front of the 2017 LED when compared to its predecessor. First of all, it is worth noting the new foglights, which have become more expressive, and a chrome edging is noticeable around them. Between them is a stylish air intake, the dimensions of which have increased, following the dimensions of the bumper. A level higher, you can see the false radiator grille, which has become a little narrower, but the shape, as before, resembles a tiger's nose. As for the head optics, the LED headlights remain the same. This moment just does not raise any questions, since they have already managed to prove themselves well before. The hood also did not change - moderately convex, with small "muscular" air flow.

This is not to say that the car's profile is unique and unrepeatable. In all fairness, you can find many similarities with other members of the class. But the developers managed to save the situation due to the dropping hood - rarely anyone dares to take such a bold step, but the Koreans took the risk and did not lose. Also, it is worth noting the cute stampings on the side doors, which give the car an athletic appearance, as well as massive wheel arches. Thanks to the streamlined roof and the same sloping hood, the car boasts fantastic aerodynamics.

The feed was also partially transformed. Engineers installed a new bumper, complete with more technologically advanced running lights. Aggressiveness and power is given by the exhaust pipe, which resembles a sports car turbine. The trunk lid and optics are from its predecessor. The same can be said about Sid's signature visor.

As it became already clear, during the assembly, the new body was not used, therefore, it is logical to assume that the overall dimensions remained the same:

  • Length - 4.31 m;
  • Width - 1.78 m;
  • Height - 1.47 m;
  • Wheelbase - 2.65 m;
  • The ground clearance is 15 cm.

Salon

It is immediately noticeable that in the interior of the Kia Sid 2017, the designers adhered to the same stylistic concept that was used in the exterior. The salon looks very bright and stylish. It is safe to say that in this aspect, the "Korean" is not inferior to European and American competitors.

The dashboard is well laid out and has incredibly convenient control compartments. It should be noted that it is at an angle to the driver so as not to distract him from the driving process. A touch screen is installed in the center of the panel, which displays information from the navigator and the multimedia system. A little below you can see the climate control unit.

It should be noted that the dashboard of the basic configuration includes only a radio tape recorder and air conditioner "rollers".

The high-tech steering wheel is equipped with additional mini-control units. Its position can be adjusted in two directions.

Under the steering wheel, depending on the configuration, there is a conventional analog speedometer and tachometer, as well as a monochrome monitor, or a Supervision panel with an HD screen.

Not very expensive, but high-quality materials were used for the interior decoration. In the top trim levels, you can count on chrome and glossy elements that give the car "bombast" and pathos.

The front seats are made in accordance with all standards of comfort and ergonomics. Side bolsters can be used by the driver and front passenger. Back row passengers can also enjoy plenty of space and amenities.

The base boot capacity of the 2017 LED is 385 liters, but it can be increased to 1,320 liters if the rear seats are folded down.

Specifications

Three power units are available for domestic motorists:

  1. 4-cylinder engine with a volume of 1.4 liters, which produces 100 horsepower.
  2. 4-cylinder naturally aspirated engine with 1.6 liters and 130 horsepower.
  3. 1.6-liter engine with direct fuel injection and 135 horsepower.

The car is equipped with ventilated disc brakes to which an anti-lock braking system is connected.

Colors

The developers have offered 11 options for body paint. The most attractive among them are: gray metallic, bright red and dark blue.

What is the difference between the new product and its predecessors?

Body design

According to the owners' reviews, the 2017 KIA Sid model has retained its sporty look and fully corresponds to the name - Sporty Wagon. The car is presented with a more massive updated bumper. The mesh grille with chrome surround is slightly larger.



The design of the head and rear optics has been changed. The fog lights have become round and are located in chrome-finished niches. The taillights have a different shape and are equipped with LEDs. Restyling also affected the rims, which changed their pattern. These changes apply to all three body styles.

Salon interior

The interior of the KIA Ceed has retained its design. The changes affected only small details of the interior. The door handles and dashboard now have chrome trim. The engine start button is made of aluminum. Glossy surfaces have a scratch-resistant finish. The design of the steering wheel has been changed.



Judging by the reviews, the engineers of the KIA Sid SW 2017 delighted car owners with the improvement of the multimedia system and the security system, which includes blind spot monitoring, a speed limit function and a parking assistant. And the most significant, although not visible externally, change is the improvement of the soundproofing of the cabin.

Engine

The main changes, from the developers of Kia Sid 2017, are expected by future owners under the hood of the car.

The new model received petrol and diesel engines.1.4-liter and 1.6-liter petrol engines remained in the configuration. Added:

  • new ecoTurbo engine for 100-120hp;
  • 1.6-liter diesel units for 110, 128 and 136 hp

In conclusion, we can say that KIA Ceed was and remains one of the best deals in the class for reasonable money. The car is characterized by high efficiency, excellent technical characteristics and a variety of equipment.

It was no coincidence that I was introduced to the corporate department of Stream-Auto LLC, the official dealer of KIA. Ask why are they? Everything is simple - the best corporate department in Russia in 2013 and 2014 and also one of the contenders this year.

The conversation turned into a week-long test drive of the Kia Ceed car, in an interesting form of a station wagon, and besides, in the maximum configuration for our market.

The engine is one - 1.6 liters about 129 forces, only gasoline, with an automatic transmission.

The acquaintance began with a gas station and this is what I saw. Nice numbers, informative dashboard display. There is nothing superfluous - this is a big plus. The backlight is of a pleasant shade, the eyes do not bother and do not cut or distract from the control, which is very important.

Another pleasant surprise in the morning. When you approach the car, the backlight turns on, the visibility from the bulbs is sufficient. Keyless access is convenient and after the first use it seems already irreplaceable, you don't want to think about the key, how to open and start the car mechanically in the old fashioned way. It's great when options from the older segment are actively used in the golf class.

Recently, Koreans have made a big and confident step. The car is pleasant to look at, beautiful lines, optimal proportions and interesting solutions. The cid station wagon is definitely attractive. Although because of the beauty you have to make sacrifices. The windshield continues the line of the hood, surprisingly there is enough space in the front and you don't rest your head on the roof. But in the rain, instantly all the dirt from the road begins to fly on the glass, it became noticeable right away, the wipers coped, of course, but they worked in an accelerated mode.

Another interesting option is the panoramic roof. The son was delighted! So much natural light in the cabin is beneficial.

The glazing area is decent.

It starts almost immediately after the sun canopies. Works in the airing and opening mode. Seeing the salon rear-view mirror, I remembered an interesting feature. Although the mirrors are anti-reflective, but the most effective way to prevent blinding cars from behind turned out to be you know what? Figs who will guess, if you did not go to Side)))) It is enough to raise the middle headrest 15 cm from the seat and voila, no one is blind.

Let's start our inspection of the car from the most important place - the driver's seat.

The seats are comfortable, tight-fitting, there is a lumbar cushion, it's strange that with such a rich set of options, the seats are still not completely electrified. I think turning the knobs is already a sufficient anachronism. To my surprise, there is nowhere to put the elbows, the armrest is too far and small, and there is no room on the door.

I did not like the steering wheel - it is very thin and it is not clear for what purpose the steering column switches were installed for the machine. This is not a sports car and there is not even a hint of excitement. It would be possible to save a couple of penalties for sure. Rubber carpets are an absolute evil, feet slip. Frankly, a very unpleasant feeling when you miss the brake pedal.

The steering wheel is overloaded with an abundance of buttons. You cannot scroll through the menu in motion, everything is for safety. The heated steering wheel is hidden, it is not very convenient to search on the go, only by touch. There are plenty of pockets for small things, the phone and keys will not fly around the cabin.

At first there was a feeling that the gas pedal was too heavy, and then apparently it pumped))) The front struts are of course too wide, they close the view very much.

The pleasant screen of the media system makes the interior a little bit more, but more comfortable! Although, of course, the maps do not look the way we would like, and in Moscow, driving a car is dangerous without a service that shows congestion and traffic jams on the city streets.

Behind me I'll sit quietly behind me, of course you can't throw one leg over the other, but there is enough space. The embarkation / disembarkation is not very comfortable.

The child seat connects to Isofix, the safest and most effective solution. Pushing the front seat all the way, you get a complete expanse for the child. But it is inconvenient to put the child in the chair, the car is too low, although it has quite a decent ground clearance of 15 cm. A couple of times I almost kicked my forehead against the body when I tried to cope with the child seat safety belts!

I was surprised by the trunk with a cargo storage system. Convenient and simple. If the seats are folded, unfortunately we will not see a flat floor.

And then there is more, the storage system for small things is beyond praise! Every little thing will lie in its place, the perfect trunk! I have not seen this for a long time, even more expensive cars cannot boast of such luggage ergonomics. That surprised me.

The back looks harmonious. As a lover of beauty, I did not find anything to complain about. Factory tinting closes the rear hemisphere from prying eyes. The complete set includes a rear-view camera and parking sensors. The camera displays a clear image on the screen of the media system if it is dry outside, unfortunately it is not protected from the weather in any way. Parktronic displays an image of approaching objects on the dashboard screen.

Nice optics, near xenon, far halogen. They light up the road pretty well. For some reason, only the parking sensors are not painted exactly in the body color. I almost forgot, there is even an automatic parallel valet.

I used the car for its functional purpose, that is, as a family car. There is enough space in the cabin, the trunk is perfect.

In this perspective, some kind of aggression or sadness even appears, I still did not fully understand)))

After 700 km, the consumption for some reason did not change, I even decided that there was a picture with an average consumption wired there)))) Having reset the consumption, I saw a more realistic result.

Another button put me into a stupor. Its presence in the car is not at all clear to me. When the whole world is trying to simplify some things to a minimum, Kia went their own way, and on a car with a dead 1.6 liter engine, they put a button with 3 steering modes))))) Why ???

Maybe for those who will be able to squeeze all the juices out of a family versatile person?)))) Although I doubt that there is not so much space for this on the third transport ring, and it is not so easy to break into the runway of Sheremetyevo airport!

Summing up small results!

What can you say after 1200 km? Convenient and comfortable family car, which is more suitable for the city. There are already questions on the track, such as a weak engine, mediocre sound insulation and a suspension operation that is not entirely clear to me. I don’t want to remember about the hood stick, keyless access and an option from the Mesozoic era to support the open hood. How could anyone think of it before)

Despite the practicality, "generalists" in Russia are not in great demand. Many people simply do not like the look. Indeed, not all "hatchbacks" turn into a "station wagon" to face: often a stylish and elegant car becomes disproportionate and loses all its attractiveness. And here the buyer has to make a painful choice - either to put up with the practical, but bloated "hold" of the car, or to turn his attention to something else.

However, there are exceptions to the rule! And one of them is the "station wagon" KIA ceed sw. Oddly enough, the transformation of the familiar KIA ceed into a "station wagon" not only did not worsen the appearance, but, I would say, gave additional charm to the initially beautiful body.

The original wedge-shaped sport profile of the KIA ceed is rich in possibilities for transformation, which allows you to flexibly change the concept of the car, literally turning it into a sports coupe or a station wagon on the fly. And, surprisingly, every time it remains recognizable, proportional and harmonious.

The aerodynamic form effectively blends into the appearance of the KIA ceed, making it a true chameleon. Thanks to this, the ceed “station wagon” looks like an aggressive “sportsman” from the front, from the side it is an elegant streamlined drop, and the sharp chiseled lines of the rear part of the body make it look like a sports crossover.

Light but expressive lines of the body, bright accents of headlights and taillights, chrome trim and, of course, the trademark "smile of a tiger" give the KIA ceed sw a complete look.

Like the cherry on top, our test KIA ceed sw is adorned with LED elements such as daytime running lights, taillights and mirror repeaters, which undoubtedly add some extra charm to the car. But the adaptive turning xenon headlights are only available for the top-of-the-range Premum trim. But I, perhaps, would not become very upset because of this - the standard light in the KIA ceed sw boasts excellent parameters, and the absence of a headlight washer significantly reduces the consumption of anti-freeze fluid in winter.

The interior of the "station wagon" KIA ceed sw is not much different from the usual "hatchback". Our test car was presented with the Prestige trim level. Perhaps this is one of the most advantageous versions of the "station wagon" KIA. First, the excellent interior design: it is immediately evident that the car was developed for demanding European buyers who value elegance and laconicism. There is absolutely no "loudness" and oriental passion for silvery plastic here: the style of the interior is dictated by the desire for lightness, rigor and clarity. The lines are neat and precise, and the well-dosed piano lacquer finish and metallic accents add extra charm. Finishing touches include details such as the fin-shaped door handles.

Sports seats add lightness and spaciousness to the interior. Combinations of gray and black tones with light stitching look stylish, materials look practical and do not get dirty.

The ergonomics of the driver's seat are at their best here: comfortable seats and a wide range of seat and steering wheel adjustments make it easy to find a comfortable fit for drivers of different sizes and heights. The steering wheel is pleasant to hold in your hands, and the control buttons are intuitive and convenient.

The three dials of the KIA ceed sw dashboard are similar to the rest of the car. Thanks to this, the dashboard looks sporty and functional - clear numbers, an informative display, a wide range of brightness control.

A well-organized arrangement of control buttons for various vehicle systems, an asymmetric dashboard swivel and an additional information screen provide the driver with easy access to all information necessary on the road.

A convenient center console with a large niche allows you to place gadgets and small items you need on the road.

The large glove compartment in the dashboard is illuminated and can be cooled (very convenient if you need to carry medicines or baby food with you). In addition, the armrest has another small compartment for small items.

All this ends with the KIA brand name - good preparation for winter operation. As "winter options" we have heated steering wheel, front seats, rear-view mirrors, windscreen washer nozzles and electric heating of the wiper parking area. In cold weather, all this significantly increases the comfort of use.

In the KIA ceed sw you quickly get used to comfort and the only thing left to wish for is a little better sound insulation. And here I have to remind myself that this is still not a premium class, but a car quite affordable for a mere mortal.

KIA ceed sw: electronics on board

The Prestige package is rich in equipment, although it lacks the beloved KIA navigation system. But the absence of "premium chips", such as a top-end multimedia "head", panoramic roof and xenon, is compensated by a decrease in the cost of the car by almost 150 thousand rubles.

The audio system of our KIA ceed sw provides a full range of music functions, as well as telephone communication via bluethooth connection. It has 6 speakers, is capable of playing CDs and MP3 files, and comes standard with AUX / USB outputs for connecting an iPod or other MP3 player. It can be controlled both from the dashboard and from the steering wheel.

The radio control is very convenient, but the radio antenna is not the most powerful. however, it is enough to listen to Moscow radio stations within a 70-kilometer radius of Moscow.

This also displays the image of the rear-view camera with movement guides. The function is convenient, although the camera gets dirty quickly enough.

Passengers in KIA ceed sw

Since this is a "station wagon", then, of course, special pickiness should be shown to the organization of the rear compartment.

Perhaps, here KIA ceed sw can only be praised. There is a lot of space in the back, the seats are comfortable.

The trunk is large, wide, has a comfortable shutter, which is located high enough.

The rear seats fold easily, the angle of inclination of the backs is small, so here you can transport almost anything your heart desires (within reason, of course).

If the curtain is not needed, it can be easily removed and put down.

But what impressed our KIA ceed sw most of all was what was under the boot floor. The proposed organizer was clearly made by people who traveled a lot and for a long time in Russia.

The organizer is divided into parts that can be easily removed if you suddenly need to get to the spare wheel. The plastic is durable, the box can be placed on the ground without risk of damaging it and staining the clean lid.

The only drawback in this situation is that instead of a full-fledged wheel in our test KIA ceed sw, only a "dokatka" is offered.

KIA ceed sw on the road

But the most important thing about the KIA ceed sw is its behavior on the road. Here you can fall in love with a car: only 135 "horses", but it seems that there are at least one and a half times more of them.

This is all thanks to the DCT's six-speed dual-clutch transmission, which delivers outstanding dynamics and responsiveness to the accelerator. If "usual" dynamism is not enough, the "station wagon" easily turns into a sports car - just use the paddle shifters.

Such a transmission is available only for the four-cylinder GDI engine, which is installed on the top versions of the KIA ceed sw. For the rest of the configurations, the Koreans offer a 130-horsepower MPI engine with 6-speed "mechanics" or "automatic" and a 100-horsepower 1.4-liter engine with a 6-speed manual transmission in the "base".

We can say only good things about our GDI engine paired with DCT transmission. Here and "omnivorous" to gasoline - the minimum octane number 92, and quite adequate fuel consumption: despite the winter, Moscow traffic jams and dynamic driving, the average fuel consumption did not exceed 8.6 liters per 100 km, which almost exactly corresponds to the declared values \u200b\u200bfor urban regime.

Double-clutch boxes can be overly “nervous” at the start, and then driving in traffic jams is exhausting with torn car dynamics. Here, driving at low speeds is comfortable, and the barely noticeable delay in the reaction to the gas pedal when starting from a standstill simply invites you to a quieter driving.

The suspension of the KIA ceed sw station wagon is resilient and has a good balance of stiffness and softness. She is quite athletic, but does not cause irritation by shaking. It is easy to operate the car, it stands well in turns, it works well with holes and bumps. The steering wheel is informative and understandable, and thanks to the Flex Steer function, you can adjust the optimal harshness of the response depending on your mood.

The safety of the KIA ceed sw is worthy of respect: in the EURONCAP tests of 2012, the car received "five stars". There are no savings on airbags, even in the basic configuration. Regardless of the version, their number is the same - front and side airbags, as well as curtain airbags.

Active safety systems, with the exception of the traditional anti-lock braking system, are available only in top-end versions. The Prestige features Stability Control (ESC), Emergency Brake Assist (BAS), Integrated Active Management (VSM) and Hill Start Assist (HAC). The premium version adds Blind Spot Assist (BSD) and Reverse Exit Assist (RCTA).

Summary

KIA ceed sw is able to cause a pleasant surprise and make you fall in love: the hatchback, having turned into a "station wagon", has not lost its beauty and elegance at all, but has become very attractive as the only family car. Excellent external features combined with stylish and comfortable interior make it possible to exclude the compromise between beauty and practicality from the agenda.

Pleasant dynamics and easy handling, balanced elastic and energy-intensive suspension make driving the KIA ceed sw pleasant both in the city and on the highway. On this "station wagon" you can easily wave to the Crimea, or you can just enjoy driving around the city.

Perhaps, in the KIA ceed sw, only two things can be criticized: the lack of "plus" and "minus" illumination on the paddle shifters and the ground clearance. The height of the ground clearance of the KIA ceed sw begins to be sorely missed when driving out of town in winter. But, on the other hand, this is not an SUV, but a city car, which, first of all, is designed to be comfortable.

Technical characteristics of KIA LED

The hatchback has compact dimensions: length - 4310 mm, width - 1780 mm, height - 1470 mm, wheelbase - 2650 mm. The station wagon is slightly larger: the length is 4505 mm, the height is 1485 mm. Thanks to such dimensions, the car feels confident on any surface, easily maneuvers in a modern metropolis and has a spacious interior.

The clearance of the models is standard for city cars - 150 mm. You will be able to overcome small curbs and potholes without any problems.

The hatchback's boot is a 380-liter compartment that can accommodate not only shopping bags but also a baby stroller. The trunk volume of the station wagon is 528 liters. This indicator increases significantly if the rear row seats are folded. You will be able to transport even long loads.

Models are equipped with two types of gasoline engines:

  • 1.4-liter 100-horsepower motors;
  • 1.6-liter units with 129, 130 or 135 hp.

Engines with a volume of 1.4 liters are paired with a 6-range mechanics, and 1.6-liter power plants operate together with a mechanical (6-speed) and automatic (6-speed) gearbox or 6-speed "robot".

All cars in the model range are front-wheel drive.
