AvtoVAZ recommends Lukoil TM 4-12, but this is a recommendation, not a prescription... If the instructions give preference to a certain trade mark, the rest can sue, and they will be right. Normal vehicle operation depends only on the properties of the oil, and not on the logo on the packaging.

You can refer to the experience of the owners of the VAZ 2114. Judging by the reviews, the following brands are used:

  3. New Trans KP;
  4. Nordix Supertrans RHS;
  5. Slavneft TM-4;
  6. Castrol 75w90;
  7. Shell Getribeoil EP 75w90;

The manufacturer is also not against the listed oils, at least such brands are offered in official service centers, and no one worries about warranty claims.

The main indicator is the viscosity of the oil. For a temperate climate, the value 80W90 is suitable - these are the parameters recommended by the car manufacturer. With such a transmission, you can safely drive both in summer heat and in light frosts (up to -20 ° C).

This is a universal approach, as for all season tires on wheels. But for northern areas it is better to use the 75W90 formula. During severe frosts, you can start the car even with a dead battery. And the heat is more than + 30 ° C, in such an area is unlikely.

When filling in a new gear lubricant, you should be aware that you will be operating the fluid for several years without changing the lubricant when changing from summer to winter operation... Therefore, the recommendations of the car factory are one thing, but the actual operating conditions are quite another.

Another limitation of the plant is the API quality standard. Transmission fluid must be marked at least GL-4, or TM-4 according to Russian qualifications.

Synthetics or mineral water

There are no restrictions on the choice of the base. In terms of characteristics, as well as operational properties - there seems to be no difference. However, using the example of the same motor oils, we know that stable properties are retained for a long time only with a synthetic base, or oils based on semi-synthetics.

Mineral water works perfectly at medium loads and in temperate climates. In extreme heat, the base quickly "burns out", ceasing to be a reliable binder for additives.

And operation at temperatures of -25 ° C and below is difficult due to the tendency to thicken in the cold. It is the synthetic transmission oils that force the car to start in winter when the clutch pedal is depressed. Otherwise, the starter can be quickly damaged.

Synthetics are devoid of these drawbacks, have a longer service life, but the cost is appropriate. Often, VAZ owners prefer cheaper oils and shorten the service life. The savings are scanty, but there is always fresh oil in the box.

As usual, the truth is in the middle. The best decision - a compromise semisynthetics. Service life and durability, almost like that of pure synthetics, and the price is close to mineral water. The same Lukoil TM 4 - 12SAE80W-85 is produced on a mixed basis.

Both the price is reasonable and the performance is normal. If you do not trust the domestic oil industry, purchase foreign counterparts on the same basis. A little more expensive and no negative emotions.
