Where is the land rover made? The history of the Land Rover brand

The SUV that we love.

Each car manufacturer has its own preferences, its own principles that the company follows when developing the next model. Sleek design, unbreakable engine power, elegance or the desire to take another record bar in acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h.

English company Land rover the main direction in production was determined in the middle of the last century.

The world needs cars that can overcome even the most difficult roads. SUVs are what the consumer is ready for.
Maurice Wilkes, founder Range rover.

So in 1948 the Land Rover trademark was registered and the company began its long and eventful journey towards building an automotive "all-passable future".

Land Rover history

The middle of the 40s was a difficult post-war time for all industries. Resources were sorely lacking, the economy of England was in decline, and the release of ultra-fast high-speed cars, which the company specialized in Rover before the start of the war, there was no question. The time has come for completely different cars, cars with clearly defined tasks: endurance, readiness for tough operation and cross-country ability.

At the time, Maurice Wilkes was chief designer at Rover, while his brother served as CEO of the same company. In short, the guys were well versed in cars. Among the Wilkes' top favorites was an American SUV Willys.

This car model was used exclusively for military purposes and was a joint development Willys-Overland Motors and Ford... The light reconnaissance vehicle met the most stringent standards, and its production was directly controlled by the US government. In 1945, production of the SUV was suspended, and the enterprising brothers had an idea that would very soon turn into one of the most successful cars of the post-war era.

The British government relied on the automotive industry and the newly minted Land Rover could not disappoint.

The shortage of metal for production ended in 1947. The military industry slowed down, and a year later the first-born Land Rover company, the first SUV of the concern, flaunted at the car exhibition in Amsterdam.

The transmission and engine were borrowed from a Rover passenger car, the body was made of a lightweight aluminum alloy that is corrosion resistant and inexpensive to manufacture. Steel scrap was chosen for the manufacture of the chassis, abandoning pressing. This gives Land Rover a reliable and durable load-bearing support. The exterior still sounded like echoes of war - green paint, angular shapes.

And while the Wilkes brothers positioned the new model as "intermediate class for farmers", the crazy demand for Land Rover forced the company to reconsider plans to release its first SUV. By 1949, the Land Rover SUV outperformed the established Rover sedan.

1.5 liter engine for 48 horse power and four-wheel drive with a top speed of up to 75 km / h - this is the first Land Rover to go on sale in 68 countries in just a few months. And most importantly, what attracted buyers in the first place - four-wheel drive.

The first SUV opened up new opportunities for the company. The car could boast of excellent sales, and the Land Rover concern could direct the proceeds to new developments. In 1950, a new Land Rover model was released with a modified drive system: now the driver could independently decide whether to continue the journey in front, rear or all-wheel drive. A number of options with different wheelbase lengths appeared, and the body began to acquire new outlines.

Seven years later, in 1957, Land Rover began installing diesel units and completely abandoned the "soft body", replacing the canvas parts with aluminum ones. It was in this year that Land Rover was designed and became a true classic of the era. It's a model today Land rover defender.

Gradually, from a “car for farmers” Land Rover turns into a symbiosis of a car with excellent cross-country ability and comfort at the sedan level. Inspired by the launch of the seven-seat Station wagon with "full meat", Land Rover engineers begin experimenting with interior equipment.

The vector was chosen correctly. Interior heater, soft door upholstery, leather interior - all these are the nuances that distinguished the premium car of that time from just a car “for everyone”. The first model comes out in 1970 Range roverwhich will enter the American market under the project Project eagle.

Buick V8 gasoline engine, acceleration to 100 km / h in 11.9 seconds, maximum speed 160 km / h - these characteristics have become a new standard in the world of cars. It became the main exhibit at the Louvre and received the title of "reference sample of industrial design."

Range Rover opens a new page in history for Land Rover. Ahead of 45 years of amazing experimentation, development and improvement, three global generations of SUVs and dozens of prestigious awards.

Family SUV enters the market in 1989 Discovery... A more affordable modification of the Range Rover received a simplified body.

In nine years, the SUV will receive a second wind and its reincarnation will be embodied in Range Rover Discovery Series II: 5-cylinder diesel with patented injection system.

In 1993, the 1.5 millionth Land Rover car rolled off the assembly line of the concern, and the Bavarian automaker BMW AG was taken to further design the new generation of the SUV.

In 1997, a compact version of the SUV was introduced Land Rover freelander ... This is the most small car in the line of the company, which is often called "souvenir SUV"

In just five years of existence, the Freelander becomes the best-selling four-wheel drive vehicle in Europe.

The rapid development and impressive demand for Land Rover SUV models is generating more and more new models.

Throughout the evolution of SUVs, Land Rover has patented a series of technologies that have made driving on problem roads a pleasure:

  • hDC downhill driving system;
  • independent air suspension of all wheels with electronic control (when installing a monocoque body and a transverse engine);
  • Range Rover is the first all-aluminum SUV;
  • the first electronic traction control system.

And where there are high-tech patents, there are worthy victories. The element of an SUV is expeditions to difficult terrain, crazy long races and points at which a classic sedan would have a heart attack. Military experience has been beneficial, and Land Rover's piggy bank has been replenished with new trophies:

  • In 1972, the Range Rover becomes the first car to successfully complete the 29,000-kilometer Trans-American range.
  • In 1974 Range Rover crossed the Sahara Desert. The length of the route, which took 100 days, was 12,000 km.
  • In 1977, the SUV easily completed the 30,175 km race in the London-Sydney race.
  • 1979 and 1981 marked the year of Range Rover records: 27 speed records for a diesel Range Rover and two victories in one of the toughest races of the Paris-Dakar rally in 79 and 81.
  • The updated and revised model of Range Rover hybrids successfully crossed the Great Silk Road from Great Britain to India. This bumpy route is 16,000 kilometers long.

At the heart of all Range Rover SUVs is the ability to combine technological power and reliability with premium trim and upscale interiors.

The assortment of Land Rover vehicles is represented by an impressive model line, which covers almost all tastes and preferences of the modern driver, for whom reliability is a priority.

In 2005 the flagship conquered the market Range Rover sport , which received the title of "best car in the history of the company." In 2011, sales of the crossover began Range rover evoque and the concern has once again managed to combine the incompatible, presenting a city car with the character of an SUV.

Over the 45-year history of Range Rover models, the manufacturer has managed to turn "just an SUV" into a premium car. Taking a long trip through difficult terrain and still feeling like a cradle of comfort is Land Rover's top priority, which the company is doing well.

The full history of Land Rover vehicles has over 60 years of reliability, high cross-country ability and maximum comfort for the driver and passengers. Land Rover was originally an exclusively British corporation, but in 1994 it was acquired by BMW.

Today, the impressive range of cars of the legendary Land Rover company, for which the concept of bad roads simply does not exist, is considered one of the most sought-after and prestigious cars, perfectly emphasizing the status of its owner.

From World War II to the present day

During the Second World War, industry in Britain received a constant income, with the end of hostilities, financial flows dried up. The country's leadership was forced to look for solutions to this situation. This can be considered an important impetus in the history of the development of the entire British automotive industry, and the Land Rover brand in particular.

Taking advantage of the difficult economic situation in the country, Rover quite easily received approval from the country's leadership for a new launch of mass production of passenger cars. The company was provided with a completely new plant located in Solihull, which was rebuilt before the outbreak of the war, and throughout its entire course produced military equipment, being classified.

This is how the history of the land rover company began, which, on a very large territory of the plant provided to it, could afford to start the production of a small number of car models, which first came off the assembly line before the war. A new idea for entering the market was proposed by the brothers, who were managing the company at that time - to create a simple and inexpensive "transport" with a minimum need for scarce sheet steel.

The whole history of the land rover brand would have been completely different, without the creation of the first post-war car with the same name, the prototype of which was the Willis Jeep. It was extremely simple in daily operation and reliable car with excellent cross-country ability, for the production of which a minimum of steel was required. The vehicle was a temporary option for Land Rover to overcome a difficult period of strict steel quotas.

Through life a winner

In the history of the land rover, the sharp decline in "interest" in aluminum, which was noted after the war, played a huge role. Since it was much cheaper than steel, the engineers came up with the idea to more widely use it for the body of the new model. Aluminum was not only easier to process and required less resources, but also had high corrosion resistance.

The lack of metal has had an impact on the chassis of the car. The inability to manufacture steel chassis parts, the large economic costs that were required for this, prompted the engineers to come up with an original solution. Pieces of steel (in the form of scrap), which were in abundance, were welded together, subsequently collecting in a supporting frame. This not only saved resources, but also made it possible to manufacture a frame that has never been found in land rover history.

In the spring of 1947, the assembly of the prototype began, and by the summer it was completely ready. As it turned out, it was such a car that fully met the needs of society at that time. By the spring of 1948, 25 samples of the new car had already been collected. It was announced at an exhibition held in Amsterdam, where it was a huge success, becoming not a temporary, as planned, but a popular SUV for many years.

Perfection carried through the years

In the same year, the number of new SUVs produced was several times higher than the number of sedans produced by the company, providing a constant income. This allowed the modernization of the model to begin, and in 1950 a completely different all-wheel drive system was implemented in the history of the land rover brand. By means of a special lever it was now possible to switch between full or only rear wheel drive.

In the 60s, Land Rover significantly updated the list of cars produced. In addition to the forward control variant of the car, the list of cars produced on personal orders has been expanded. For example, a landing vehicle weighing only 500 kg appeared, designed to be delivered to the combat zone by air. Throughout its history, the Land Rover "visited" construction sites, helped firefighters and doctors - all due to its unsurpassed characteristics in terms of cross-country ability.

After a serious marketing research carried out in the same year, it turned out that Land Rover had managed to “conquer” more than a third of the global SUV market. After that, it became clear that the company was completely open new market cars for connoisseurs of outdoor activities.

It all started with the intention of engineers to make only a small part of the improvements to the already released version. But as a result of painstaking work on the new development of the specialists of the Rover design studio, a fundamentally different car has turned out, with the already proven rigid frame and lightweight body, characterized by high corrosion resistance. The car, dubbed the Range Rover, would then be exhibited at the Louvre, and the public got to know it in 1970, and the car instantly made a real sensation.

Range Rover was produced with two doors, complemented by a tailgate. The exterior of the car was not chic, but its sales literally beat all records. Its exceptional reliability will be confirmed a little later by a group of military personnel who have made a motor rally on it from Alaska to Argentina, where Range Rover has never let down its creators for six months, having overcome all the tests with honor.

Stay true to tradition by changing the look

In the 80s, the company began to implement the Project Jay project, as a result of which the history of the Land Rover Discovery car model, belonging to the class of family cars, was begun. The basis was the already proven Range Rover wheelbase with a lightweight and inexpensive body. As a result of the work, the long history of land rover discovery started, which the public saw for the first time back in 1989.

If Discovery and Range Rover confidently took over the luxury car segment, the victorious story of the updated Land Rover Defender began a little later. This model has proven itself, for example, among fans of outdoor activities. This was facilitated not only by the comfort of the car and its excellent handling, but also by the unsurpassed off-road characteristics, which have not been surpassed by other manufacturers until now.

Following the acquisition of the Rover Group by BMW, the lineup continued. The design of a new car has begun. As conceived by the designers, the new Range Rover was supposed to be completely different from the previously produced cars. A fundamentally new chassis was developed for it and the V8 engine was "redesigned". In addition, the engineers have provided for the possibility of equipping the car with a 2.5 liter diesel engine.

The new car was equipped with the latest electronic system that controlled absolutely everything - from the perfect system responsible for safety while driving, to the suspension, which was made self-leveling. The new model was named Range Rover Classic, and this luxury car existed for 26 years, during which more than 300 thousand copies rolled off the assembly line.

The history of the Land Rover Freelander model, in contrast to the history of defender or discovery, began relatively recently. Despite the fact that there are enough models in the small SUV market, the Freelander's appearance could not go unnoticed as it inherited all the best characteristics of the legendary brand. Since the start of work on this model, a lot of the latest developments have appeared in it, without which it is already unrealistic to imagine a car.

Thus, HDC (controlled descent) was developed and patented, based on the ABS, and this is just one of hundreds of Land Rover innovations. The appearance of the Freelander did not become a point in the history of the company's development. In 2005, motorists showed a genuine interest in a new model launched on the market - the Range Rover Sport, which, according to a number of characteristics, became the best carmobile in the history of land rover. This is a versatile, maneuverable vehicle with excellent cross-country ability and comfortable driving style on any road. The capabilities of the "legendary" car can be seen in the video

British automobile company Land Rover, which specializes in the production of premium vehicles high cross-country ability, was born in 1948. The Wilkes brothers became the founders of the enterprise. Maurice Wilkes was chief designer at the time, and Spencer Wilkes was the chief executive officer of the British automaker Rover. As conceived by the leading managers, the Land Rover project was supposed to help Rover survive the difficult times that befell the company. But over time, the company took its own confident niche in the global automotive market.

Since 2008, Land Rover has been owned by the Tata Group, which owns the Indian car manufacturer Tata Motors.
The first Land Rover car was based on the American military Willys jeep. In post-war Great Britain there was a difficult situation with the metal, but aluminum was abundant, as well as spare parts for aircraft. The Wilkes brothers were able to get government approval from the Meteor Works plant and approval for a simple four-wheel drive vehicle with an aluminum body.

Even before the official registration date of Land Rover in 1947, a pre-production sample of a new car with the name Center Steer was ready. The car had a ladder-type frame, an engine and transmission from a passenger Rover, a body painted green with paint from military aircraft. Having made 25 prototypes of the new car and renamed the novelty Land Rover, the creators presented their SUV at the Amsterdam Motor Show. Where is the car, as the history of the Land Rover company notes, enjoyed great interest among specialists and ordinary motorists.

In the first year of production (1948), the number of Land Rover SUVs produced was equal to all Rover passenger sedans that came off the assembly line. And in 1949, twice as many jeeps were sold than the previous year.
In 1950, the first-born Land Rover underwent modernization. The all-wheel drive system was improved (the driver could choose between all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive with a lever), the engine displacement increased, and versions with wheelbases of different lengths appeared.

In 1957, a diesel 2-liter engine was installed on the Land Rover, and a year later a 2.3-liter gasoline unit appeared.
In 1959, the production of SUVs exceeded 250 thousand copies, the car was appreciated by firefighters and rescuers, military and civilian services.
In 1965, the half-millionth Land Rover car was released, the line of motors installed on cars expanded with six-cylinder engines.

In 1968, the British SUV got a V8, new system all-wheel drive and disc brakes. Land Rover Company became part of British Leyland Motor Corporation.
In 1970, a significant event took place in the history of the company - the debut of a new Range Rover model. A car with a stunning design (was exhibited at the Louvre next to the painting by Leonardo da Vinci "La Gioconda", as an example of modern art) and comfortable salon... The off-road qualities of the novelty were not inferior to the traditional Land Rover.

During the 70-80s of the 20th century, Land Rover and Range Rover are constantly being improved and improved, the company's cars take part in the Paris-Dakar rally and a specially created extreme competition for Land Rover and Range Rover off-road vehicles - Camel Trophy (1980-2000) ...

In 1989, the third model appeared - Land Rover Discovery.
1990 - The classic Land Rover is renamed Defender.
In 1993, the British company came under the control of the German BMW.
1994, the second generation Range Rover appears, the premium SUV becomes more luxurious and more expensive.

In 1997, another new Land Rover was created, the first model of the company with a monocoque body - the Land Rover Freelander. This car opens the era of crossovers. Land Rover Defender 90 with eight passengers was able to climb the highest mountain in Europe - Elbrus (5642 meters), thereby proving its extraordinary off-road capabilities.
In 1998, Land Rover Defender undergoes significant modernization and renewal, the start of sales of the 2nd generation Land Rover Discovery.
In 2000, Land Rover became the property of the Ford Motor Company. By the way, the same fate befell Lincoln, Volvo, Aston Martin and Jaguar.

In 2001, the 3 millionth Land Rover SUV rolled off the assembly line, Land Rover Discovery 2 was recognized as the best car with 4x4 all-wheel drive according to Auto Express magazine and the premiere of the new 3rd generation Range Rover took place.
2003 - Rover Freelander was restyled.
Land Rover Discovery3 premiered at the 2004 New York Auto Show.
In 2005, after modernization and restyling, a second version of the SUV with a shortened body appeared - the Range Rover Sport.
Year 2007 - the start of sales of Freelander 3.
In 2009, the fourth appeared generation Rover Discovery.
In 2011, the lineup was expanded with the compact luxury crossover Range Rover Evoque.

Currently, Land Rover and Range Rover SUVs are represented in Russia and the CIS countries by all manufactured models: Defender 90, Defender 110, Freelander 2, Discovery4, Evoque, Range Rover and Sport Range Rover.
Land Rover and Range Rover SUVs are manufactured at Solihull and Halwood UK factories. A third Freelander besides the UK is produced in Aqaba (Jordan) and Pune (India).

The existence of the Land brand Rover world indebted to the Wilkes brothers - chief designer and chief executive officer car company Rover, who created an unpretentious and inexpensive "jeep" with an aluminum body in the difficult post-war years. With the appearance of the first prototype of this model in 1947, the history of the world-famous English manufacturer of premium SUVs began.

The history of the Land Rover brand

The Land Rover brand name refers to the Rover company, founded in 1887. One of the founders of this firm, John Camp Starley, is known for developing and patenting a chain-driven rear wheel bicycle. The design he invented is used today, almost a century and a half later, and in some countries the words "bike" and "Rover" are synonymous.

Manufacturers of technology in Britain, weakened after the Second World War, had to survive by all available means. Government orders for aircraft and other military equipment dried up, and the country had strict quotas on the use of steel. At the same time, after the end of aircraft production, warehouses accumulated great amount aluminum. The Wilkes brothers decided to make of him inexpensive SUVsto help the company hold out until the free float of the steel market.

Aluminum also had one more advantage - it was the best suited for the production of cars intended for use in difficult conditions, since this metal does not rust, and the body made from it has a low weight, which saves fuel with the impressive dimensions of the "jeep" ...

In the spring of 48, the first 25 machines were shown at an exhibition in Amsterdam and aroused great interest.

However, the jeep was not destined to become a temporary help to the company - already in 49, the number of Land Rovers sold exceeded the total number of cars sold by the company.

The first modifications of Land Rover did not even have their own name - numbers were added to the brand name, for example, Land Rover 109.

In 1970, the Range Rover premium SUV was created.

In the early eighties, the company began developing a medium-sized SUV. price category... It was based on a Range Rover chassis combined with a more modest and smaller body. was presented in 1989 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

In 1991, the "numbered" models ceased to exist, giving life to the same uncompromising Defender SUV.

According to one version, the idea of \u200b\u200bthe logo was inspired by the case of a sardine can, forgotten in the drawings by one of the engineers. An oval oil trace remained on the paper, which became the prototype of the oval that frames the inscription in the company logo.

Change of brand owners

Land Rover is headquartered in Gaydon, England, Warwickshire. Modern models - Defender, Discovery, Freelander, Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Evoque are assembled at two factories in Solihull and Halwood.

The company gained relative independence only in 1978. Until that moment, Land Rover was a division of Rover, which was part of the large automobile holding Leyland Motor Corporation.

Subsequently, the division became part of the JLR Group. In 1994, the Rover Group, together with JLR, acquired the German one.

In 2000 year BMW sold part of the business, resulting in the Ford concern becoming the owner of Land Rover.

The chain of ownership ended only in 2008, when Jaguar and Land Rover were acquired by the Indian company Tata.

Land Rover technology.

Talking about the technologies that have become the hallmark of the brand, one cannot fail to mention the Land Rover V8 engine. In the classic version, its volume was 3.5 liters with an effective power of 156 hp. Differs in simplicity of design.

Range Rover was one of the very first premium diesel vehicles in the world.

Land Rover's aluminum body is also noteworthy, which is durable and not subject to corrosion.

Among the latest technologies Range Rover dual display and (Hill descent control).

Land Rover in motorsport

For the first time in 1979, a French crew in a special Range Rover model won the Paris-Dakar Rally. The Range Rover brought the rally victory again in 1981.

It is impossible not to mention the Camel Trophy - an international automobile competition that took place on difficult terrain in Brazil, Chile and Argentina from 1980 to 2000. The competition was attended by teams from all over the world on Land Rover off-road vehicles.

Key models

Unlike "numbered" models with spring suspension, Range Rover axles are spring supported. The car was initially focused on the American market and operation mainly on asphalt.

The design of the new model was so successful that in 1971 the Range Rover Classic was exhibited at the Louvre Museum as an example of high art.

The current third generation Range Rover is a product of a long evolution, during which the car is constantly overgrown with more and more new options aimed at improving comfort: air suspension, downhill assist, etc.

The top model of the modern is equipped with the traditional for the brand petrol "eight" volume of 5 liters and a capacity of 510 horsepower with a mechanical supercharger. The maximum torque is 625 Nm.

Land rover defender

The heir to the "numbered" models remains one of the few mass-produced "true" SUVs with a ladder frame, two axles and a six-speed transmission with permanent four-wheel drive, two-stage transfer case and a lockable center differential. - along the length of the wheelbase in inches. Of all the early models and later "Defenders" released, 70% still serve their owners.

Land Rover in Russia

In Russia, Land Rover has a peculiar image: rumors persist that this car is unreliable, but its fans are growing every year. The most expensive models - Range Rover and Discovery - are in main demand in Russia.

Land Rover sales in Russia began in 1996. In 2001, an official representative office was opened. In 2006, Land Rover sold 6,299 cars in our market, and in 2010 - 9970. Every day more and more cars are stolen in Russia, including Land Rover. Discovery and Freelander are most often attacked by hijackers.

In early November, sales of a new model from Land rover began in Russia - a compact SUV called. The company plans to open a plant in Russia.

The Defender SUV owes its signature paint to military stocks - after the end of World War II, it remained in warehouses a large number of paint, which was used to paint the fuselages of aircraft.

There are many famous people among the owners of Land Rover: Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, Paul McCartney. Singer Madonna once chose a Range Rover as the lead vehicle for a wedding procession. James Bond has also driven Land Rover on several occasions.

Since its first introduction in 1948, the Land Rover name has been firmly associated with four-wheel drive vehicles. Defender, Discovery, Range Rover and Freelander are unique SUVs that are unmatched. The history of the Land Rover brand is the history of the four-wheel drive vehicle.

Half-century history of development

Over the past 55 years, Land Rover has been creating vehicles that have set the standard for reliability, off-road capability, comfort and style. Year after year, Land Rovers are making the modern four-wheel drive story.

In the mid-1960s, Land Rover was convinced that there was a need for more comfortable four-wheel drive vehicles in the market as soon as possible. It was decided to create vehiclethat combines the comfort and performance of a family car with the off-road capabilities of Land Rover

At the beginning of the path

In the mid-1960s, Land Rover, by which time had a strong reputation for creating functional, classic designs, sent representatives of the newly formed New Car Design Department on a research tour of America. The Range Rover is a true design breakthrough without exaggeration. The Range Rover, a product of innovative thinking, was presented to the public in June 1970 and immediately made a splash. The Range Rover was an undeniable success for the company. It was admired as the first truly multi-purpose vehicle - practical car, in which it was possible not only to carry a variety of goods, but also to comfortably make long journeys.

1980s evolution

In the first half of the 1980s, Range Rover, which by that time had become the unrivaled leader in its class, underwent numerous changes and improvements. Apart from the fact that a 4-door variant was created, the most significant changes affected the interior of the car. The vinyl seats and the original Spartan interior have been replaced. Added air conditioning and premium upholstery. And the Range Rover Vogue, which appeared a little later, became the standard of a first-class car of the highest quality.

Generation 1990s

In 1994, Land Rover introduced the second generation of the Range Rover model. In the new car, the styling solutions used in the previous model were combined with a more modern design. The V8 engine was also significantly improved.

Discovery is a purposeful vehicle with a rich heritage. Half a century of experience of Land Rover was used in its creation. This car is a clear demonstration of how the combination of years of experience and innovative technology creates a car of unrivaled design. The latest modification of Discovery - the new Discovery 3 - is a real breakthrough in the four-wheel drive segment.

Four incarnations of a classic car

Discovery was first introduced to the public in 1989, marking the creation of a new niche for the family four-wheel drive vehicle. Distinctive design features of this new car were strictly horizontal and vertical body lines, a low shoulder line, a stepped roof and an "alpine" roof at the rear of the car. However, the car stood out not only in design. The latest advanced technologies have been used in the creation of the car, such as permanent all-wheel drive and the legendary Hill Descent Control (HDS).
All Discovery vehicles were equipped with these systems as standard. And although this one was absolutely new car, it was instantly recognized as a true Land Rover.

Discovery of the second generation and so on

The car was constantly improved, and in 1998 the second generation Discovery appeared. In the second generation Discovery, all body panels except for the tailgate were replaced with new ones. Only the legendary silhouette remained unchanged. In 1999, Discovery was named Sports Car of the Year by Automobile Magazine, celebrating strong US sales. In 2003, a new, completely redesigned Discovery appeared, which introduced the new family face of the Land Rover brand.

Brand new Discovery 3

2004 marked a new milestone in Discovery's history. The all-new Discovery 3 has arrived. This fast-paced, confident vehicle once again sets the bar high in the luxury SUV category. Combining functional design with the latest technology, this car is undoubtedly the best 7-seater SUV in the world.

Freelander

Launched in 1997, this car proved once again that Land Rover is a recognized leader in the production of four-wheel drive vehicles. The introduction to the market of the compact all-wheel drive vehicle for outdoor activities with a new model, with excellent off-road performance and rich pedigree, complemented the company's success. The Freelander immediately took the lead in Europe in terms of sales volume in the 4WD class.

History has a habit of repeating itself. This happened with the appearance of the new Freelander in 1997. once land cars Rover had already carved out a niche in the new outdoor vehicle market, and the emerging Freelander immediately seized the lead in Europe in terms of sales in this market sector.

Freelander is born

The Freelander was first unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1997. By creating the car, the company aimed to carve a niche in the 4WD outdoor vehicle market and expand its presence in the traditional 4WD market.

Setting the bar high
