In the role of the main driving force, two gasoline engines were installed: a 4-cylinder with a volume of 2.5 liters. (128 hp) and a 6-cylinder 4.0 liter. (193 hp). An economical Renault turbodiesel (21 DT) with a volume of 2.1 liters was also installed. (80 hp), in 1991 it was replaced by a more powerful Italian VM turbodiesel with a volume of 2.5 liters (116 hp). Gasoline engines were combined with a 5-speed manual, or 3 or 4-speed automatic transmissions, with diesels, only a manual transmission was installed.

Cherokee is voracious. The average gas mileage of the 4-liter six-cylinder engine, offered from 1988 to 1991, is 14 l / 100 km. In all-wheel drive mode, this figure can rise to 20 l / 100 km even with moderate driving style. The 21 DT turbodiesel seems to be more economical, the average consumption of which is 10 liters of diesel fuel per 100 km, but in normal operation the fuel consumption also increases to 14-17 liters. The reason for this, along with the Cherokee's 1,580 kg curb weight, is an angular body with poor aerodynamic performance.

The interior of the Cherokee is decorated in a typical American style: a lot of chrome, not always logical arrangement of switches and levers, a high transmission tunnel in the middle of the cabin. The driver's seat is quite comfortable and has several adjustments. The back seat is also quite spacious - you can ride three people. The Jeep Cherokee Limited (Country) modification is rich in equipment.

On March 22, 1990, the millionth XJ-series SUV, the bright red Cherokee Limited, was launched. In seven years of production, the Cherokee has become not only the epitome of an exemplary off-road vehicle, but also the most popular model of the Chrysler corporation in Europe.

At the beginning of 1997, the front end was restyled, the radiator grille was changed: its pattern became different, with large vertical slots. New bumpers and taillights were installed, the list of trim levels and options was significantly expanded.

In addition, a new chassis with independent front suspension was developed for the new SUV, which makes the car very comfortable on public roads, and at the same time maintains its excellent off-road qualities.

The Cherokee has enormous suspension endurance potential. The lower arms are cast from ductile iron and the upper arms are forged steel. All this, together with the anti-roll bar and the rack and pinion steering mechanism, is covered from below by a powerful steel subframe half a finger thick.

Retaining the traditional seven slots in the radiator grille and round headlights, the designers noticeably smoothed the chopped body lines. The distinctive roofline, the external spare wheel and the wide wheel arches give this SUV a muscular, dynamic and overpowering look. Visually, the new Cherokee appears to be shorter than the old one. But this is an optical illusion - in fact, it is 25 cm longer. Optical illusion is a consequence of the fact that the new car is also 24 cm taller.

The increased angle of inclination of the windshield, aggressive appearance of the radiator grille emphasize the solid appearance of the car. Four halogen headlights brilliantly illuminate the path ahead, minimizing dazzle for oncoming drivers.

The interior of the Jeep Cherokee KJ is thought out to the smallest detail and is in perfect harmony with the exterior design of the car. The salon combines modern design and individual elements in a retro style. The quality of the finish has improved markedly. The entire interior is made in a combination of rounded shapes and colors of black and white. The instrument panel is designed in a laconic and no-frills way. Round white scales, at the head - a large speedometer and tachometer, on either side of them - indicators of temperature and fuel level. The center console and tunnel have silver polished aluminum inserts. Round cutouts of the air conditioner, rounded handles on embossed doors with deep well thought out pockets and places for glasses all add a kind of "aesthetic-practical" comfort to the Cherokee interior. The fluorescent lighting for the instrument panel and the audio system display adds a sense of comfort.

A wide door opens the way to the driver's seat, and a handle located on the A-pillar will help to overcome the high threshold. The seat has electrical adjustments (with the exception of the backrest angle), which allow you to quickly take a comfortable position. The Cherokee's rear seat can be folded with one hand in a 65/35 ratio. Loops and hooks located in the load compartment will help to securely secure the transported cargo. The Jeep Cherokee KJ has several engines, the most powerful of which is the 3.7-liter V6 with 210 horsepower, which comes only with a four-speed automatic transmission. Next comes the 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 154 hp. In addition, a 2.5-liter turbo diesel with 140 hp is also available.

For those looking to buy a real off-road vehicle, there is a special Up Country Suspension package, which includes underbody plates, hitch, suspension with increased ground clearance, and an automatic body leveling system when towing heavy loads.

As before, the Jeep Cherokee offers two four-wheel drive systems. The standard Command-Track system with front axle disengagement provides excellent traction in all conditions - whether driving on snowy trails or off-road. Keep in mind, however, that the Command-Track Cherokee is a purely rear-wheel-drive vehicle whose front wheels can only be connected for off-road use. The Selec-Trac permanent all-wheel drive system provides the driver with additional convenience. At the same time, the system provides high fuel efficiency and reliable operation of the transmission in all road conditions.

The highlight of both systems is the ability to switch transmission modes while the vehicle is moving. In particular, this allows you to engage all-wheel drive on the go, there is no longer a need to reduce the speed.

The Jeep Cherokee is equipped with a range of features to help the driver feel more confident in difficult road conditions, especially when driving on slippery and uneven roads. These include, first of all, the anti-lock braking system (ABS), the Trac-Lok rear axle limited-slip differential, and the torque control system transmitted to the vehicle's wheels. These and other systems provide the Jeep Cherokee with a phenomenal ride quality that allows the driver to fully enjoy off-road driving.

For the 2005 model year, the Cherokee was restyled. The changes affected the shape of the bumpers and the radiator grille, which now houses the fog lights, located in the updated version just below the headlights. In addition, for a number of modifications of this car, the radiator grille has become chrome.

The world-famous 2014 Grand Cherokee SUV made its debut in early 2013 in Detroit, and a more compact Jeep Cherokee with a drastically redesigned Chrysler company presented at the New York show in the spring.

The new exterior can be called controversial, but at the same time quite original and modern. American designers (without the participation of an Italian studio) dared to change the traditional and classic appearance inherent in the previous generation of the model.

It is noteworthy that the Cherokee 2013-2014 is presented in four versions. The first three - Sport, Latitude and Limited look like crossovers and differ from each other only in small external decor details, but the Cherokee Trailhawk is a real off-road conqueror with off-road tires, compact front and rear bumpers made of black plastic, engine compartment protection and four-wheel drive elements transmissions with metal sheets, two towing eyes at the front and one at the rear, painted in bright red, and increased ground clearance to 220 mm (for other versions, the clearance is 195 mm). The body of the Cherokee Trailhawk also has geometric cross-country characteristics worthy for an SUV: 29.8 degrees - the angle of entry, 23.3 degrees - the angle of the ramp to overcome, 32.1 degrees - the angle of the exit, the ford depth available for forcing at speeds up to 8 km / h is 510 mm.

The 2014 Cherokee is built on the Fiat platform, which is already used for the Dodge Dart sedan and the Alfa Romeo Giulietta hatchback. The front suspension of the SUV is "MacPherson", the rear is an independent multi-link. The maximum suspension travel is 17 centimeters at the front and 18 centimeters at the rear. External dimensions of the body are: 4625 mm long, 1860 mm wide, 1680 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2700 mm.

On the bonnet with smooth relief lines, there are seven vertically arranged radiator grille ovals with a chrome edging, and the lower grille located in the bumper opposite, stretches horizontally between the fog lights integrated into the bumper, and is also accented with chrome. The side part of the body is characterized by square-like wheel arches designed to accommodate rubber 215/60 R17 or tires 215/55 R18 on 17-inch steel or light-alloy wheels of 17-18 radius, curved and high sill line, smooth sidewall surfaces and a sloping roof line. Along the entire perimeter, including arches and sills, the body is endowed with protective plastic, hinting at good off-road conquest abilities, and on the roof, in addition to the roof rails, it is possible to install a panoramic sunroof filling the interior with natural light. The compact stern received a huge bumper with integrated trapeziums of muffler nozzles, a compact tailgate, crowned with a spoiler, and narrow shades of marker lights with LED filling.

It should also be noted that the new body has a low drag coefficient of air flow, which favorably affects not only fuel efficiency, but also the car's handling.

The interior of the new Jeep Cherokee 2014 matches the exterior, and compared to the interior of the previous generation, the model has changed beyond recognition. The quality of the materials used (soft plastics, fabric or leather), according to Jeep representatives, is of premium class. The buyer has a choice of five different color themes for interior decoration.

Depending on the configuration, the dashboard of the SUV can be equipped with either a 3.5-inch TFT display or a seven-inch color screen. They can display data from the navigation system, fuel consumption figures or information about the song being played by the audio system. The initial 2014 Cherokee has a 5-inch color touchscreen on the center console, while more expensive trims have an 8.4-inch touchscreen monitor. It controls the Uconnect Access multimedia complex.

The steering wheel, with the help of integrated buttons, will allow the driver to control many functions without being distracted from the road, and the instruments are represented by a pair of large round dials of the tachometer and speedometer, with an electronic display built in between them, informing the driver about the modes of operation of the car.

New driver and front passenger seats with bright side bolsters. As an option, it is possible to order an electric adjustment, heating and ventilation of the front seats. For three passengers in the second row of seats with a margin in all directions, the rear row is able to move along the passenger compartment, thus increasing passenger legroom or trunk dimensions. The split backrest changes the angle of inclination. The rear seats fold down to form a flat cargo area.

The motor range of the model includes two gasoline engines. For the basic version, a 186-horsepower "Fiat" four-cylinder 2.4 engine of the Tigershark MultiAir 2 family is offered. The top modification will receive a 3.2-liter V-shaped "six" Pentastar, which develops 271 horsepower and 315 Nm of torque. In tandem with the motors, a new "automatic" with 9 steps works.

For Cherokee 2014 prepared three options for the all-wheel drive system. The first - Active Drive I - automatically connects the rear axle if necessary, leaving the car in front-wheel drive in normal driving modes.

Active Drive II has a 4-Low mode for driving off-road at low speeds and towing a trailer. In its activation, the center differential is blocked, the role of which is played by the multi-plate clutch. The ground clearance in this version is 2.5 centimeters larger.

Drive Lock system - designed for particularly difficult road conditions, based on Drive II, but with locking not only the center, but also the rear differential.

As options responsible for comfort and safety, there is a huge list of systems: an advanced multimedia system with 9 speakers, navigation, a rear view camera, a parallel and perpendicular parking assistant, front and rear parking sensors, systems monitoring blind spots, lane markings, adaptive cruise control capable of braking and completely stopping the car, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and engine start with a button, panoramic roof and other chips.
