  • the owner of the electronic key approaches the car;
  • at a certain distance, the car systems recognize the owner by exchanging signals with an electronic key-tag;
  • then the owner presses a button on the electronic key or just comes close to the car;
  • after that, the door locks are unlocked;
  • the driver sits in the seat and presses the engine start button;

It turns out that the owner uses the electronic key only for the forced opening and closing of the car doors. All other actions are performed by the keyless entry and start system in automatic mode. Now let's talk about self-installation of the Start-Stop Engine button.

Popular ways to install the starter button

Let's start with the fact that many car owners are attracted by the very ability to start and stop the engine from the button, that is, not to use the ignition key in the lock. In parallel, no additional implementation of the keyless entry system is envisaged. It should be noted that in the case of such an installation scheme, comfort increases, but safety suffers. The fact is that after intruders enter the car's interior, the engine start button is not blocked by anything, since there are no systems that identify the owner.

Considering the above, it is recommended to equip the car with an additional immobilizer or other solutions that prevent unauthorized engine starting. It should also be noted that self-installation of the engine start button often leads to an increase in the load on the starter. As a result, the resource of this element may be reduced. We add that the improper installation of the engine start button with your own hands can be performed according to different schemes, taking into account the wishes of the owner, the characteristics of a particular car, etc.

  1. One of the simplest installation options is the starter button, which involves the parallel use of the ignition switch. With this installation scheme, the ignition is turned on with the key in the lock, and the engine itself is then started from the button. Note that this method has more disadvantages than advantages, since the presence of a start-stop button still does not provide the required degree of ease of use.
  2. Another type of setting for starting the engine from the button is the ability to start the internal combustion engine with the gas pedal depressed for models with automatic transmission and the clutch pedal for vehicles with manual transmission. This scheme assumes turning on the ignition from the Start-Stop button, while the engine is started immediately after pressing the gas or clutch pedal.
  3. It should also be mentioned about the method of starting the engine from the starter button, provided that the brake pedal is pressed in parallel. The convenience of this solution is questioned by many, especially if the car suddenly stalls in the stream. We add that the combination of the start-stop button with the gas, brake or clutch pedals in various schemes will require the installation of a separate sensor on the engaged pedal.
  4. The installation of the "delayed" engine start button deserves special attention. This method of abnormal installation has the least detrimental effect on the starter. The downside is the complexity of installation, which requires contacting professionals and making a number of changes to various car systems.

It turns out that the available installation methods can be roughly divided into the following:

  • the engine start button activates only the ignition, the start itself is carried out after pressing the brake, gas or clutch pedal;
  • the start-stop button allows you to both turn on the ignition and start the engine;
  • complete installation of the engine start system from the button in combination with the installation of a keyless entry system in the car;

The latter method is the most optimal and the most expensive, since together with the "Start Engine" button, the system receives an electronic key and interacts with door openers, a security car alarm module, etc.

Self-installation of the engine start button

To better understand the issue, it is necessary to superficially consider the standard process of starting the engine on cars that are equipped with a simple ignition switch from the factory. In such cars, the power wires from the starter are connected to the contact group of the ignition switch. After turning the key in the lock, the contacts are closed. This solution is found on older car models. The fact is that a large current passes through the contacts, which leads to a rapid burnout.

For this reason, more modern versions have a separate relay. The task of such a relay is to take all the load on itself and close the contacts after turning the key in the ignition lock. The ability of the relay to cope with a high load, as well as the ease of replacing this element in case of its failure, allows us to talk about the reliability of the system. As a result, the service life of the contact group has increased significantly.

To connect the engine start button, it is necessary to accurately determine which contacts are responsible for shorting the power to the starter, which allows you to scroll with the starter from the button and start the engine, as well as stop the power unit by opening the contacts. These contacts are connected to the engine start button or other elements (depending on the installation scheme), allowing you to completely do without a key in the ignition lock.

Please note that this manual is not an accurate diagram for installing the engine start button and is for informational purposes only! If you do not have sufficient experience with electrical equipment, then it is recommended to completely refrain from such actions. Remember, mistakes during connection can lead to a short circuit in the vehicle's on-board network, malfunctions or failure of electrical equipment, fire and other consequences.

The engine start button works in such a way that the driver presses it and holds the required time to start. During this period of time, the starter rotates the crankshaft, as a result, the engine starts. Then the button can be released.

What are the engine start button options?

  • A little about the key... The first option still involves the participation of the key in starting the engine. To do this, insert the key and turn on the ignition. After that, you need to hold down the button that will activate the starter. The ignition is switched off with a key. The second option involves the complete absence of an ignition key. That is, in order to turn on the ignition and start the engine, it is enough to use only the button.
  • Button operation options... There are two options here too. The first assumes that to start the engine, you must hold down the button until the starter starts the engine. The second launch option provides for a short press of a button. That is, the button is pressed and released. The starter motor will rotate until the engine starts and shuts off automatically.
  • Ignition control... You can make it so that the button will turn on the ignition, and then, together with the brake pedal and pressing again, you can start the engine. Another method allows you to turn on the ignition on a par with the starter. Thus, to start the engine, it will be enough to get into the car and press a single button.

The launch options can be combined, while the composition and complexity of the circuit will differ markedly. Below we will consider the main combinations in ascending order from the easiest to the most difficult.

Starting the engine with a key using a button

This scheme is the most elementary and its application is most common among the owners of domestic cars. It has the following principle of operation. The button cannot be activated without the key. To start the car, insert the key and turn it to position 1. Then hold down the button and hold it until the starter starts the engine. To stop the motor, the key must be turned to position 0.

To realize this, it is necessary to purchase an ignition relay from a VAZ 2109. It has 4 contacts, two of which are high current circuit contacts, and the other two are low. Connect one of the wires coming out of the high current circuit contacts to pin 15 on the ignition switch and the other to pin 30 (the first wire should be pink and the second red). Attach the third wire (low current circuit) to the vehicle ground, and the second to the plus (green wire). A start button is mounted between the relay and the green wire.

You can install the button anywhere you want. It is very important that it is located as conveniently as possible and at the same time prevents the engine from starting by accidental touch.

Button to start the engine with the use of relay switching on the ZPF

This method allows you to get rid of the ignition key and start the engine only from the button. The ZPF relay turns on the rear fog lights on the vehicle. It can be used to start the engine. The red and blue wires go to the starter and ignition relays, respectively. The gray wire can be connected to the red one or connected to the ignition terminal. The remaining pink wire is connected to the vehicle ground through a thick terminal.

The button illumination is connected to the car alarm. Thus, as soon as we remove the car from the alarm, the backlight comes on and signals that the car is allowed to start. After setting the car to the alarm, the lamp goes out, and the voltage is removed from the button, which makes it impossible to start the engine without removing the alarm.

Scheme work:

  1. When the car's security system is turned off, voltage appears on the contact of the ZPF relay, and the button illumination lights up.
  2. We press the engine start button, while the ZPF relay is energized, then the ignition relay and the starter relay. Thus, the starter starts to rotate at the same time the ignition is turned on.
  3. After the engine has started, the button is released. It turns out that the starter relay opens and stops it, and the ignition relay continues to work.
  4. Pressing the button again opens the starter, respectively, the engine stops. Setting the car to the alarm turns off the button illumination and removes the voltage from it.

Attention!If you decide to exclude the use of the ignition key, remember to remove the mechanical steering lock. Otherwise, you risk losing control of the vehicle due to the locked steering wheel when cornering.

Starting the engine from the button, together with the brake pedal

You can take the same circuit with the rear fog lamp relay as a basis. This scheme now lacks the disadvantages of the previous one - the possibility of a separate ignition switch. The algorithm of actions, in this case, is as follows:

  1. Press the button - the ignition turns on.
  2. We press the brake pedal simultaneously with the button - the starter turns on and starts the engine. To disengage the starter, release the button or brake pedal.
  3. Stopping the engine, as in the previous version, is carried out using the same pressing on the ignition switch.

With regards to connecting the brake pedal to the starter start circuit. In fact, we do not connect the pedal, but the pedal contacts, which close the brake light circuit. This connection method has a significant drawback - if the engine stalls on the move, then it can be started only by pressing the brake pedal. This is actually very inconvenient. This method is only applicable to vehicles with an automatic transmission. For mechanics, it is best to place such contacts on the clutch pedal, since when we start the engine, we depress the clutch pedal, not the brake.

Attention! If you applied the circuit with a brake pedal, then do not turn off the ignition with the pedal depressed. The fact is that depressed pedal and engine start button can turn on the starter, which can deteriorate. Perhaps this is the only serious drawback of this scheme.

Other methods

Based on the existing schemes, you can design your own. For example, to make a short press of the start button, it is necessary to put a time relay that will disconnect the starter with a certain time delay.

The last method is applicable only for experienced electricians - this is the connection of a special digital screen with the ability to enter a key to the ignition lock. After that, it is possible to start the engine from the button.

  3. What buttons can be used, their installation, wiring diagram:
  4. without fixing, in this case it must be pressed and held until the motor starts;
  5. with fixation, pressed and released, the start of stable operation of the motor will be determined by the electronics and will turn off the starter.


How the ignition system works:

  • its start is performed separately from starting the engine (when you press Start-Stop Engine - the ignition is turned on, then you press the brake or clutch again - the engine starts);
  • the ignition starts to work simultaneously with the start of the engine;
  • various interlocks of the Start-Stop Engine and ignition are performed, including (the interlocking circuit may provide for the use of a signal from the security alarm, an open door sensor, the inclusion of dimensions, etc.).

An added benefit is connecting power to the alarm. In this case, the operation algorithm will be as follows:

  1. the car is removed from the alarm, power is supplied to contact 1 of the RZPTF, the backlight comes on;
  2. the button is pressed and held - the ignition and starter relays are turned on, the starter starts to spin;
  3. the button is held until the engine starts, then it is released, the starter relay turns off, the motor continues to run;
  4. pressing it again stops the engine;
  5. after installing the car on the alarm, the backlight goes out.

This is one of the possible ways to implement such a launch system. In the process of such a launch, other elements can also be used. For example, the engine will start when the clutch or brake is pressed, everything will be determined by the given starting algorithm.

Implementation of the idea to start the engine using a button instead of a key is possible on any car. In this case, a completely arbitrary one can be used, only your algorithm of action. The decision on how the engine will start - with a button or with an ignition key - is a matter of personal choice, and the skill of the person who will undertake the refinement of the ignition system.

Modern buttons serve several functions:

  • prevention of unauthorized start-up using an immobilizer;
  • control of the gearbox position (the button will not start the car if it is not in "neutral");
  • control of pressing the brake on a car with automatic transmission (this function is not relevant for the VAZ 2107);
  • control of the clutch release on cars with manual transmission (the car will not start if the clutch pedal is not depressed);
  • turning the ignition on and off by pressing the button.

Starting from a button can be of two options: either you need to hold the button until the engine starts, or you just need to press it, and the electronics will start the starter and turn it off itself after the car engine starts.
The latter option is more comfortable, but some prefer the first, trying to independently control the moment the engine starts.
Installation of the VAZ 2107 "start-stop" button is facilitated by the fact that there are ready-made electronic units on the market designed for installation in the "seven". Thus, there is no need to delve into the intricacies of the electronics, you just need to know how to properly connect the button to the car's electrical system.

How to connect the start-stop button on the VAZ 2107

There are different variants of the block that allows you to start the “seven” from the button. Consider connecting a start-stop button on a VAZ 2107 with an immobilizer.
The kit, which can be purchased at a store or ordered online, includes:

  • immobilizer keychain - 2 pcs.;
  • immobilizer reader - 1 pc .;
  • wires and connectors;
  • control block.

The VAZ 2107 does not have a standard limit switch on the clutch pedal. Therefore, you need to either install it (which is quite laborious), or to secure the engine from accidental start in another way. You can connect a wire to the brake pedal or handbrake limit switch. The latter option is less convenient, since each time the engine starts up, you will have to put the car on the parking brake. Therefore, if you do not want to install the limit switch on the clutch pedal yourself, connect the output of the control unit to the brake pedal limit switch. But it's better to put the switch on the clutch pedal itself or the release bearing fork located at the gearbox.
Another problem that needs to be solved is preventing the steering wheel from jamming when the ignition is closed. The safest way is to simply remove it, but there is another, "lazy" and somewhat barbaric option. You can turn the key in the ignition lock so that the latter unlocks and cut it in this position.
The “start-stop” button is connected to the ignition switch itself quite simply. The wires are simply cut and reconnected to the control unit. You can find out which of the wires where to connect from the instructions for the kit. If the button is universal and is not designed for use specifically on the VAZ 2107, the wire addresses will have to be found out by dialing, switching the ignition switch to different positions.
Thick power wires conduct high currents and heat up in certain vehicle operating modes. If you connect them with just solder, it can melt and flow. Therefore, such wires must be connected by twisting.
When installing the start-stop button, the manufacturer's instructions must be strictly followed. In this case, the modification of the car will not take extra effort, and the button will work reliably, and the engine will not start at the wrong moment, even if the button is accidentally pressed.

Connecting a button in a car where there is no auxiliary relay

First of all, you should find the contacts responsible for turning on the starter. Then integrate them with the button.

The modernization algorithm looks like this in general:

  • The plastic trim under the steering wheel is removable;
  • There is a connector connected to the contacts of the ignition switch (as a rule, there are fixing tabs on this connector);
  • Press the tabs to release the connector and pull it out.

As a rule, on cars of older years of production, after inspecting the connector, two cables with a large cross section are found. The one that red is responsible for controlling the starter.

Note. You can check whether the wiring is really responsible for controlling the starter as follows. Turn the ignition key until it stops, close both wires from the removed connector. If the starter turns on, then they are.

  • The button is placed in a place convenient for the driver;
  • Found wires are connected to it.

Button connection via relay

In this case, it will be much more difficult to find the wires responsible for controlling the starter, because you need to calculate those that are associated with the additional relay.

Then you need to connect the tester with one end to each of the positive wires, and connect the measuring device to the ground with the other. The device itself must be placed in the current measurement cycle. Test tasks: find a cable that gives out 12V when the key is turned all the way.

It is desirable that the button does not have various latches inside. In other words, the button should instantly turn the starter on and off as soon as the button is released. The locking button works a little differently. You have to press it twice to turn off the starter, and this is not so much inconvenient as harmful for the starter.

In a word, the principle of operation of the button is as follows: the driver keeps the button pressed until the engine starts, then releases it, the starter turns off. It turns out a convenient option when you operate a button like a key.

The material of the button also needs to be selected correctly. It should be borne in mind that the button itself may burn out due to the passage of large currents through it.
