Which car is better than Opel or Volkswagen. Volkswagen Golf Mk IV VS Opel Astra G: who is more fun to live with in Russia? Opel Astra or Volkswagen Jetta: who is more hospitable

As part of the opening of the automobile exhibition in the capital of Switzerland - Geneva (Geneva Motor Show 2019), the results of the annual competition - Car of the Year were traditionally announced. The main award this year went to the Opel Astra hatchback, which is a representative of the General Motors concern.
This "hatch" was able to score more than 309 points according to the results of voting, being 15 points ahead of its closest pursuer in the face of the Volvo XC90 crossover. The first three in the "Car of the Year" competition in Europe was closed by the Mazda MX-5 roadster - 202 points.
The finals of this annual motoring competition in 2019 also reached: the Audi A4 with 189 points, the Jaguar XE with 163 points, the Skoda Superb with 147 points, and the new generation BMW 7-Series sedan with 143 points.
The main prize for the Opel Astra model was received by the head of the company - Karl-Thomas Neumann.
As a reminder, according to the results of last year's Car of the Year competition in Europe, Volkswagen Passat became the winner in the main nomination. Previously this prestigious award was won by the Peugeot 308, Volkswagen Golfas well as the Opel Ampera, Nissan leaf and Volkswagen polo.

It's just a consumer approach to the car, I'm not crazy about nishtyachy and sweets, but I use it stupidly from ...

Tell me which is better and why: Volkswagen Polo or Opel Astra H? The cars are new. | Thread Starter: Lydia

Nikolay It is generally incorrect to compare these cars, since the Polo belongs to the class "B" Boris, and the Astra belongs to the class "C" Yaroslav. That is, in general, the Polo should be compared with the Corsa, and the Astra with the Golf, and with such a comparison, the PV models win, since with the same high maintainability, the PVs are more reliable and pay more attention to comfort issues. Accordingly, PV will come out more expensive.

If you still compare Polo and Astra, I would advise, firstly, you personally take both cars for a test drive. Secondly, see Astra with a 1.6 engine - it is better suited for this model. And thirdly, if you plan to ride mostly alone, then you can take a Polo, and if with a company / family, then Astra drives.

Victor monopenesuale, IMHO!

Lyudmila, of course, is an astra - a higher class, and a proven one ...

Inna Astra .... I sell

Elena The taste and color as they say ... Both cars are Economy class. My friend has a new one now Polo sedan - I know about his shortcomings. It seems to me that there is not much difference, it's a matter of taste.

Cyril O, of course Astra.

Olga Personally, I didn't like Astra - I looked at a lot of different ones in the salon ...
In addition to Polo, I really liked Cerato and Lancer10, but this is different money ...

Artyom voltsvagen of course, although they are both German, but Volzvagen has a higher reputation on the market in Russia, and they are more reliable

Anna In appearance, Astra is 100 times more beautiful)
I don't understand anything about "internal")

Ruslan I want to take the aster myself ... not H, but G. H is a great car

Egor At the current promotion - the cost of these cars is definitely better than Astra Famili. She is already better, and given that with similar trim levels for the same money, the Astra sedan also has a more powerful engine of 140 hp. from. against 105 and, moreover, a large salon and trunk.

Comparison: Astra and Polo - logbook Opel Astra COSMO + 1.8 ...

Opel Astra sedan 1.8 automatic, luxury equipment, new price - 770 thousand. ... The Astra has a noticeably better audio system - 7 speakers versus 4 for the Polo.

Once the Volkswagen Golf was the undisputed leader in its class, and rivals tried to imitate it in every possible way. But today the market situation is completely different. Today's Volkswagen models are not as reliable and competitors are clearly approaching. This is clearly seen in the comparison example.

Smooth start

Both cars are assembled quite carefully, but the individual elements of the Golf are more precisely fitted. In addition, its innovative door allows the outer skin to be removed for bodywork in the event of damage, eliminating serious impact marks. However, such repairs are more expensive and more complicated. Later in new models Volkswagen moved away from this decision.

In crash tests, both cars earned five stars, but detailed comparison on individual points indicates the minimal advantage of the Astra.

The Astra, like the Golf, is thoroughly protected against corrosion. Weakness Opel fragment of the tailgate under the chrome strip. In Golf, traces of rust can sometimes be found on doors around windows and on pillars, where the door seal touches.

In terms of interior space, the Golf is a little better - it provides more space for rear passengers... The cargo opening of the 5-door Astra is slightly smaller than that of the Golf, but the trunk is more capacious: 380 liters versus 350 liters for VW.

The quality of the interior fittings is controversial. The front panel of the Astra does not greatly admire its appearance and, unfortunately, creaks in most instances. After a small upgrade in 2007, the quality has improved and the trims of the Elegance, Cosmo and Sport versions already deserve respect. At first glance, the inside of the Golf is exemplary: excellent build quality and good materials. But if you look closely, it's not perfect. The rubberized coating will cover the control buttons for power windows and door handles. Well-equipped Asters dominate the listings for sale. Socks, as a rule, have more modest equipment, but they are more expensive.

Taking into account all the pros and cons, it is difficult to determine the clear winner in the first round. Both cars deserved a draw.

Score for Astra

Opel Astra has a very simple suspension: MacPherson strut on the front axle and a torsion bar on the rear axle. In the front levers, you can separately change the ball and silent blocks. There is practically nothing to break in the rear beam. All the dots above the "i" ground clearance... Thanks to all these advantages, Astra is ideal for our terrible roads. The service life of ball and other connecting elements is not very long, but their replacement is simple and cheap. The only exception is the sporting Asters with the IDS + system, i.e. with shock absorbers of adjustable stiffness. There are no substitutes, and the cost of original spare parts is estimated at tens of thousands of rubles. But fortunately this headache only owners of sports versions. The rest can sleep well.

The front suspension of the Golf also does not cause any serious problems. A multi-link suspension is installed at the rear. Its design is quite strong, but used copies of the initial period of production will most likely require putting the suspension in order, which may take about 6,000-7,000 rubles.

The Golf is equipped with electric power steering, the Astra electro-hydraulic. Both systems are reliable enough, but in the event of unforeseen malfunctions, they can empty the wallet for 10,000 rubles.

In the chassis comparison, the Astra wins.

Motorized dilemma

The Golf powertrain range is impressive in its abundance. Unfortunately, the vast majority available engines have a modern and advanced design, requiring increased costs for maintenance and repair. The FSI and TSI designations cover the direct petrol injection system. For car enthusiasts who reckon with the costs, only three engines can be recommended: the immortal gasoline 1.6-liter 8-valve unit, the diesel 1.9 TDI (although it works too loudly) and, as a last resort, the petrol 1.4-liter 16-valve engine (not particularly impressive, but not unnecessarily bothering with problems).

The Astra engine lineup is impressive too, but here the vast majority of motors can be taken into account. A good choice would be a turbodiesel borrowed from Fiat - 1.9 CDTI: powerful, economical and quite reliable. Isuzu's 1.7 CDTI is not perfect, but many owners are still happy with it. The 1.3 CDTI is also borrowed from Fiat: it uses very little fuel, but is much better at handling the lighter Corsa.

Note: Most Opel diesels have a particulate filter. Its presence can be identified by a sticker on the B-pillar on the passenger side. If the value 0.5 is displayed in the last line of characters, then the filter is present. If 1.2 or more, then it is absent. Due to the fact that filters on Opel models create many problems during operation, some drivers remove them.

Opel Astra gasoline engines are famous for their high fuel consumption, average performance and good oil appetite. However, they do not cause serious problems. Typical faults are associated with the EGR valve, throttle valve and oil leakage. After restyling, the manufacturer refused to use valve lifters (applies to strong versions of 1.6 and 1.8 liters). You can check this by decrypting the VIN number.

In this comparative stage, Astra wins, although it should be admitted that two good engines for Golf (1.6 8V and 1.9 TDI) is enough.

Issue price

And now we come to the most important question - the price. The Astra is definitely cheaper. Is it worth overpaying? Finally, the best choice will be a more expensive Golf with an unpretentious and durable 8-valve 1.6-liter gasoline engine.

Those who prefer diesel, it is better to step over the stereotypes and pick up the Astra 1.9 CDTI without a particulate filter. It will be a well-equipped vehicle, usually in much best conditionthan a comparable golf course.

Summary

Opel Astra is technically less perfect than the Volkswagen Golf. However, she is declared the winner. The Astra is cheaper and less expensive to operate. Drivers who often travel on rough roads will love its durable suspension. In addition, when traveling, they will appreciate its lean, high-torque and not too noisy 1.9-liter diesel engine.

Who to prefer for living together? Beautiful, intelligent, with great manners, but great demands, or modest, quiet, but very reliable? These are pre-owned VW Golf 4 and G.

Evolution and Revolution
The Golf 4 hit the market in 1997. The model is evolutionary in comparison with its predecessor Golf 3. There were no cardinal changes in design, and in technology, by and large, too. But this did not prevent the car from being successfully sold all over the world.

A big step forward for the firm. Absolutely new design, which has nothing to do with the previous Astra, and most importantly - a 12-year warranty against perforating corrosion of the body.
Both cars sold well in Russia, so the number of "our" copies on the market is quite large.

The Golf was available in three to five-door hatchback and wagon variants. Body corrosion protection - 12 years. On paintwork - 3 years. These terms are quite real, and there are no problems with the bodywork. On some cars, water flows into the rear lights, but a tube of sealant and skillful hands can easily cope with the trouble. The Golf salon looks very luxurious for a small car. Until now, no one has surpassed the quality of the fit of the panels and the materials used. You can play the game "find 10 differences from VW Passat". Difference number 1 is the cramped back seat. Despite the assurances of the designers, it is worse to sit there than in its predecessor. Not enough legroom, cramped shoulders ... Even VW Polo is more "friendly" to rear passengers!

Visibility is not bad, but the right mirror was created at the request of "substituted" on the roads. It is small and it is almost impossible to see the obstacle on the starboard side. The undoubted advantage of the Golf is its equipment. Buyers both here and in Europe rarely ordered the base Golf. Climate control, all kinds of heating are the norm rather than the exception. And at night VW pleases with a stylish blue and red instrument panel illumination. What can be broken inside? The cup holder and rear ashtray rarely last more than a year, and it doesn't hurt to check their work on inspection. As well as the serviceability of door locks. They are often "buggy", and branded service stations treat them only by replacing them ($ 70 - lock, $ 45 - replacement). The Golf suffers from a filter in the ventilation system too good. It needs to be changed ($ 50 filter, $ 10 - replacement) twice a year, in autumn and late spring. One Russian summer clogs it completely, and instead of a powerful hurricane, pitiful winds are walking in the deflectors. Windshield and headlight washers are not long-livers. In the wiper mechanism, the axles of the levers sour, which leads to damage to the electric motor or drive parts. To prevent trouble, it is better to disassemble and lubricate the mechanism once a year. A couple of years ago, gray dealers imported a batch of cars destined for the Turkish market. It is best to avoid them and check the body VIN before buying. It can be used to determine for which importer the car was made.

With the Astra model, Opel for the first time gave a decent answer to the VAG concern. The same 12 years warranty against punching corrosion and 3 years for the paint. And the same confidence in the fulfillment of these norms. Even the oldest cars show no signs of corrosion. It's not just the galvanizing of the body. Opel rarely rot on the outside, they usually rust on the inside and along the welds. At the Astra G, all hidden cavities are treated with anticorrosive at the factory, and the welds are carefully sealed. If the car does not get into a serious accident, it will live 20-25 years before being scrapped.

The Astra's interior is also good, but not impressive after the Golf. There is no chic in it, shine in the little things. And finishing materials are inexpensive. In addition, over time, in some machines, a genetic code called "rattle" reminds of itself. Not the Kadett, of course, the Golf "s will be quieter. But the back seat of the Opel is much more comfortable. There is more space, and two people will not dream of any Vectra and Omega.

On the scanty "golf" mirror Astra responds with limited visibility. Wide C-pillars make you nervous when reversing. Wins Astra in the volume of the trunk. The Astra station wagon is perhaps the best carrier in this class.

The weaker the better
The engine range of the Golf 4 has little in common with the Golf 3. The base engine is an aluminum 1.4-liter, but the most popular has a volume of 1.6 liters. Most of these machines. Much smaller with 1.8 and 2.0 engines. "Five" 2,3 and "six" 2.8 - from the category of exotic, but there are many diesel engines. On cars of this class, VW diesels are the best in the world. And no Russian diesel fuel can spoil this conviction.

There is no hassle with gasoline engines. If not replaced in time air filter ($ 25 - filter, $ 10 - work), there is a chance to get acquainted with the price of the air flow sensor ($ 300). Lambda probe ($ 245 - part, $ 20 - work) and candles ($ 45 - set, $ 25 - work) suffer from our gasoline.

The 1.8T engine in 50% of cases comes close to replacing the turbine ($ 1400 - part, $ 165 - work). The pleasure is not cheap, therefore, when diagnosing, special attention should be paid to this node. If the machine is under three years old, the manufacturer pays full cost details. Such a gift is called post-warranty support and is valid for all branded service stations.

An oil change for gasoline engines is recommended every 15,000 km, a timing belt ($ 140 - belt and rollers, $ 110 - work) - 90,000 km. It is better not to reach this period, but replace it a little earlier. There have been troubles in the form of "kissing" valves with pistons, and you shouldn't repeat other people's mistakes. Engines 2,3 and 2,8 have a camshaft chain drive.

Diesel engines are only 1.9-liter, but there are a lot of power options. Basic atmospheric develops 68 hp. from. He does not have a turbine, the degree of boost is small, so he is not as picky about the quality of fuel and oil as his powerful brothers. VW turbodiesels are fantastic units in terms of acceleration dynamics and fuel efficiency. However, they need to be monitored. Checking the oil level daily is a must. The motors do not complain about the lack of oil appetite even in infancy, and topping up between maintenance is not a sign of a "tired" unit. The fuel filter ($ 25 - filter, $ 10 - work) changes every 30,000 km, but it can and should be earlier. Air ($ 30 filter, $ 10 - replacement) it makes sense to change every 10,000 km. Otherwise, you will need to replace the air flow sensor ($ 300 sensor + $ 30 work). Any VW turbodiesel is critical to the quality of oil and fuel. And don't forget about the timing of the oil change !!! In our conditions, the manufacturer recommends doing this every 7500 km. For comparison, in Europe "oil maintenance" is sometimes extended to 50,000 km. Our miserable 7,500 km testifies that there is too little fuel in our sulfur at gas stations.

A separate topic is "fresh" diesel engines with unit injectors. For them, there is a special approval for oil quality, and it would not hurt to introduce it for fuel. One unit injector costs about $ 1000. Conclusion: refuel only at "targeted" gas stations and keep receipts. Typically TDIs from Europe have crazy mileage. 300,000 km for a three-year-old car is a matter of course. The gearboxes on the VW Golf are the simplest. Either a manual transmission or a familiar automatic. At the end of the day, a 6-speed manual was installed on the car. Typical faults they do not, only on a 1.6-liter engine the manual gearbox sometimes fails. Symptoms: increased noise, vibration.

Powertrains have no less. From a weak 1.2-liter to a powerful 2.2-liter. All of them are four-cylinder, there were no six-cylinder engines in the range. The basic 1.2-liter in Russia was not in demand. But on cars from Europe it is found. You don't need to be afraid of him. As a ladies' version on three-door hatchbacks, it looks convincing. Fuel consumption is low, there is a chain in the timing drive, and as for the dynamics ... you need to be calmer, calmer.

The most popular engine on the Astra is the 1.6-liter 16-valve. But popular doesn't mean best. Our gasoline often fails candles ($ 12 per set), the injection system is odd. By the way, to change the spark plugs (every 40,000 km), you need to remove the intake manifold. Sometimes there is an increased oil appetite, which is eliminated by expensive (up to $ 800) repairs. Its 8-valve sibling is not as powerful, but much easier to operate. Of the common diseases, an exhaust gas recirculation valve ($ 145 - a part, $ 25 - replacement) and a valve are noted idle move ($ 110 - part, $ 25 - work).

They get clogged from our fuel, so experienced owners remove and clean them every 20-30 thousand. Then you don't have to think about replacing.

Untimely replacement of spark plugs on all engines threatens with failure of the ignition coil (165 $ coil + 15 $ replacement). Replacing the timing belt ($ 150 parts, $ 65 - work) - every 60,000 km. You need to change with rollers, with the second replacement - with a water pump. And do not forget about flushing the injection system every 40-50 thousand.

Lovers of diesel engines Astra pleases with two options: Japanese Isuzu with a volume of 1.7 liters and a native two-liter. "Japanese" - the most traditional design. This engine has its origins in the "cadet" motors, and over the years the design has been worked out "in a ringing". The engine is soft in nature: good traction "at the bottom", smooth promotion to maximum speed. Its power is small, but its reliability and resource are beyond praise. And he is picky about fuel. The timing belt and rollers are more expensive than for gasoline engines, but replacement is required every 100,000 km. "Opelevsky" turbodiesel with a volume of 2.0 liters is more complicated technically, but it has a camshaft chain drive. He has an air flow sensor ($ 250) that fails by about 50,000 km. If you change the air filter on time or a little more often ($ 16 - filter, $ 4 - replacement), its life can be extended. The turbine start valve ($ 250) kicks in after a decent run on our roads. Oil change in diesel engines - every 10,000 km.

In the exhaust system, after two Russian winters, the rear bank ($ 130 part + $ 20 work) of the muffler rusts. However, the Golf also suffers from the same ($ 240 part + $ 20 work).

Classic dies last
The sweetest thing about used car descriptions is the suspension. The music of broken ball joints and silent blocks on our roads will be eternal. But with regard to the Golf and Astra, there is not much to talk about. It's all about the design schemes and materials. There are no fashionable multi-links, no aluminum. Familiar steel, McPherson in the front, beam in the back.

But this "stove" also has something to "dance" from. Let's start with Golf. Racks ($ 40 parts + $ 25 replacement) and stabilizer bushings ($ 30 parts + $ 25 replacement) lateral stability live about 40 thousand km. By 80 thousand km, steering rods usually produce a resource ($ 275 parts + $ 60 work), and by 100 thousand km - wheel bearings ($ 213 parts + $ 55 replacement), ball bearings ($ 110 parts + $ 45 work) and shock absorbers ($ 340 parts + $ 100 work). Silent blocks are quite tenacious. There are often good claims to the steering. Leaking or banging reiki is a popular phenomenon. A new rake costs $ 720 plus $ 100 for work. FROM diesel engines suspension dies faster. They weigh more, hence the wear and tear.

The Astra has always outperformed the Golf in terms of suspension reliability. So it is in this generation. The resource of the "opel" suspension parts is higher. For those interested in the reasons: the ball joint for the Astra G is identical to that of the Omega B! Comments are superfluous. In general, the picture is similar to "golf". Every 30-40 thousand - replacement of stabilizer struts ($ 20 parts + $ 20 work), to 100 thousand - steering rods ($ 40 for 1 piece + $ 65 replacement), tips ($ 35 for 1 piece + $ 17 work) , after 120-130 thousand - ball bearings, shock absorbers and wheel bearings ($ 250 for 1 piece + $ 50). The popular belief that rear springs are unreliable is not entirely true.

The steering mechanism uses an electrohydraulic booster. A barely audible howl during his work is the norm, and there is nothing wrong with that.

The Astra, like the Golf, has steering rack replacements ($ 1000 + $ 100). But less often.

There was a bad story with the brakes at one time. The Bosch rear calipers soured after a short run, so they were urgently replaced with Lucas. If the car for some reason did not pass the replacement campaign, get ready to carry it out yourself.

"Sweet" options
For exotic lovers, Opel produces two versions: Astra Coupe and Astra Cabriolet. Both cars are assembled at the Bertone plant in Italy. They are distinguished by rich interior decoration, an extensive list of standard equipment and a spectacular appearance. Performance meets efficiency: the 2.0-liter Turbo develops 190 hp. This is enough to accelerate the Astra Coupe to 245 km / h.

There was the other extreme: Astra Eco 4. The 1.7-liter diesel makes 75 hp. and is content with 4.4 l / 100 km on the combined cycle.

The Golf has many more interesting modifications. For example, a sedan based on it has a proper name: Bora. Original optics and nuances of equipment "breed" both cars into different classes. Bora is not just a Golf with a trunk. The Bora is a standalone small sedan with very big ambitions. Therefore, the interior trim is richer and better equipped.

There is a Bora station wagon. A rarity on the market: Most buyers have not seen the difference between the Bora Variant and the Golf Variant. There were few people willing to overpay for the nameplates.

Four-wheel drive is a long and very good VW tradition. Instead of a visco clutch, the Golf 4 uses an electronically controlled Haldex clutch. From this, the Golf 4Motion did not drive like the Subaru Impreza, but added predictability to the reactions. Be wary of the system all-wheel drive not necessary. It is much more important that the rear suspension on all-wheel drive modifications is independent and has nothing in common with the usual design. Spare parts for it are more expensive, and there will be problems with the search.

The Golf GTI is another equally successful VW tradition. GTI cars feature sports suspension, seats and decorative details. The car drives and looks great.

But the fastest Golf is the Golf R32. V6 3.2, 240 hp These reductions hide 250 km / h and 6.5 seconds. up to 100 km / h. "Cannon", from which VW fired towards Alfa GTA and other "charged" ... There was another athlete. The one at the gas station is on the same line with the trucks. 150 h.p. with diesel 1896 cm3 - only VW has achieved this.

Nuance level
Choosing a used car is always like racing. You can bet on a proven leader, but the winnings will be small. Or you can take a risk, put on a dark horse and win a fortune. The Astra G is the dark horse that brought Opel to victory. The previous model was no worse than the VW Golf. The only problem was in the body: it rusted quickly. Astra G is no worse than VW Golf 4. And does not rust. Any questions? Yes there is. High quality Astra G is known not only to a narrow circle of workers at Opel stations. Therefore, it is not much cheaper than the Golf. Given this factor, a clear picture emerges. If you need a solid European car with a spacious interior and trunk, inexpensive to maintain and tough to operate - this is the Astra G. Especially with an 8-valve 1.6-liter engine. In addition, the prices for original spare parts and Opel workshop services are lower than VW.

When the requirements for the car are higher (powerful engine, high-quality interior trim) and the comfort of rear passengers is not very important - this is the Golf. By the way, they did not install climate control, only a mechanical air conditioner. For some, this will be a big disadvantage.

As for diesels, the choice is similar. Astra G with a 1.7-liter turbodiesel acts as an unpretentious workhorse. Golf TDI - as a street racer. Note that operating costs for a powerful TDI are higher.

Of all the machines that are on the market, it is better to choose those purchased at one time from official dealers in Russia. In most cases, their mileage is native, and the suspension is adapted.

And finally, about choosing a class. If someone is tormented by agony: Golf / Passat or Astra / Vectra, feel free to take the "youngest". They are simpler in design and much less hassle in operation.
Happy shopping!

Polished to a shine, Golf's perfectionism looks provocative: the prospect of setting a benchmark on its own course is extremely motivating! And yet, maybe you shouldn't try to surpass the ideal in all respects? What if we just offer a reasonable alternative, playing on the protest sentiments of those who do not want to think in stereotypes?

Sworn friends

Already the sixth Golf gives the impression of a car devoid of any flaws. Such refinement captivates some, but to others it may seem boring. Indeed, from generation to generation "Golf" carefully carries a valuable genetic code, improving it as successfully as carefully. He is more likely to force himself to be respected in the process of acquaintance than to cause love at first sight: the production of spontaneous emotions at a distance is clearly not his path. Volkswagen is hindered by an innate restraint and pedantry, bordering on boring. He is not very interesting outwardly, but he is able to surprise with his intelligence and skills, which you cannot immediately suspect in him.

Astra, on the other hand, clearly relies on its appearance: if we awarded for design, Opel would immediately snatch valuable points for itself. However, taste is an individual category: someone loves a priest, and someone loves a priest's daughter. And yet, I am sure that, unlike Golf with its deliberately neutral appearance, Astra is trying to make eyes at the very moment of meeting, promising unforgettable moments of passion. Even the 5-door hatchback looks very seductive, demonstrating the spectacular plastic of the sidewalls, and even the three-door GTC is trying to frankly seduce with appetizing forms. Beauty is a terrible force!

Kinesthetic or visual?

The interior of "Golf" at first glance seems simple, but only against the background of "Astra". It would be more correct to call it laconic. However, visual contact does not give the whole picture: to the touch, the Volkswagen seems much richer than it looks. The space is perfectly organized: mutual understanding with the machine is intuitive. The steering wheel, upholstered in silky leather, lies ideally in the hands, information from the devices is read by peripheral vision, and climate control does not raise any questions. Everything, whatever you take up, seems ideal: buttons, keys, twists are laid out in their rightful places and are on alert. You have not yet thought what exactly you want to adjust or tune - but everything is already done.

Manipulations with the basic RCD-310 audio system do not require a thoughtful study of the interface, and even the more complex "head" of the RCD-510 allows you to work with it without first studying the instructions - especially since the touch screen removes many questions. You can only find fault with the sound stage: it seems that the music is coming from the left. However, this is easily compensated for by adjusting the balance.

But the most noticeable step on the road to perfection was the driver's seat. Perhaps, tall drivers will not experience problems, but for a short me (170 cm) it seemed that the seat was too high even in the lowest position, forcing me to move closer to the steering wheel. This feature of ergonomics is even more noticeable against the background of the "Astra", the front seats of which seemed more hospitable. In addition to the standard set of adjustments, the seats are supplemented with a movable cushion segment, which makes it longer. An extremely useful bonus!

From a design point of view, the interior of Opel looks much more attractive and modern: it is easier to love it with your eyes than Volkswagen. The quality of the finish at first seems to be no worse than that of "Golf", but upon careful study, the glow of enthusiasm weakens: in some places they have saved on materials. And ergonomics gives rise to criticism: the devices are not so transparent for perception, the interface of the multimedia system is more confused, and the flickering of the buttons on the center console causes brain cancer. Finally, the Astra has noticeably worse visibility, which was spoiled by stupid triangular windows near the front and rear pillars of the body and a small rear one.

Beauty requires sacrifice

Obviously, Golf was built not from design, but from function. It is enough to look at both cars in profile to understand that the Volkswagen is much more "square" than the Astra. Convenient access to the rear row of seats is provided by the more regular rear doors, which form a wide opening. The sofa does not hide behind the body pillar, and this minimizes the risk of hitting your head during landing. In the center of the back row, you can organize an armrest by pulling it out of the back; and his kinematics is such that he holds himself quite high, without forcing him to reach for him with his elbow. But this is an option.

By default, Astra does not have an armrest either. Opel resembles Volkswagen in terms of space on the couch, but is inferior to it in terms of legroom. Loses "Astra" and the convenience of landing: the lowered window line encroached on the opening of the rear door, and the back of the sofa hid behind a massive body pillar.

Addition Subtraction

IN basic configuration "Golf" is deprived of the sofa divided into two unequal parts: it can only be folded entirely. But for an extra charge, it becomes what a practical hatchback should have, and besides, it grows with a ski hatch. But if the rear row is completely left at the disposal of passengers, then the truck from Volkswagen will turn out to be mediocre: the volume of the trunk is very modest.

Astra is better at handling cargo transportation. She not only has more roomy trunk, but the back of the sofa can be expanded even in the basic version. For a surcharge, you can get an armrest with a hatch - however, the ski hole itself will be noticeably smaller than that of the Golf. But as an option, Opel offers the Flex-Flo organizer, which allows you to organize an underground in the trunk, experimenting with the floor level. And this is good.

Blow harder!

Despite the fact that naturally aspirated power units appear in the price lists of both "Germans", cars with turbo engines look the most attractive. The optimal "Golf" is a 1.4TSI modification, which can be equipped with both "mechanics" and "automatic". The engine was a success: despite the modest 122 forces, it easily carries even the relatively heavy Passat and Tiguan, and even copes with the light Golf quite playfully! Volkswagen picks up speed in a dashing way - and it doesn't matter which gearbox the engine has to work with: controlling the acceleration is equally pleasant both on cars with “mechanics” and on “automated” versions with a “robot” DSG. The character of the engine is even, and the thrust is evenly spread over the entire rev range - just what you need in the city! I don’t presume to advise more modest units: the 105-horsepower 1.2TSI is not much cheaper, and with even weaker engines the Golf will lose its dynamics.

"Astra" also starts with naturally aspirated engines, but flourishes only with a 1.4-liter turbo engine with 140 horsepower. True, having a horse advantage over Volkswagen, such an Opel does not drive so cheerfully: it pulls worse from the bottom, and starts throwing forces only when it is no longer needed. And the 6-speed automatic transmission takes bribes for its services. Even the 180-horsepower 1.6-Turbo version does not feel better than the 1.4-liter rival! "Mechanical" modifications accelerate faster, but Volkswagen still leaves a more pleasant impression: it realizes its potential an order of magnitude higher.

Fewer doors, more fun

Chassis "Golf" - one of the best (if not the best) in the class: this is confirmed by the very first turns. The steering wheel is extremely informative, the rolls are moderate, and the tires stick so tenaciously to the asphalt that it seems as if the hatchback will easily pass along a steep wall. The confidence in the car grows in proportion to the speed. The larger the numbers are measured by the speedometer needle, the more you become imbued with the capabilities of the car: the Volkswagen firmly holds the straight line and is absolutely reliable in turns. The brakes are perfect: the pedal is sensitive but firm; and the pressure in the system is controlled not by pedal movement, but by pressing force. Super!

"Astra" leaves a not so complete impression. The brake pedal is too mobile: against the background of the "Golf", its travel seems too large. However, this in no way affected the efficiency of the system - you just need to get used to the nature of the slowdown. But an overly light and empty steering wheel is already a more serious drawback: you have to grope the trajectory in the turn. The limiting capabilities of Opel are not worse than those of Volkswagen, but you can understand this only by thoroughly rolling into the car - while Golf immediately reveals its charms. In any case, "Astra" is not so clearly seeking to share the joy of driving with the driver.

But this is only true for the 5-door hatchback. The spectacular three-door GTC rides in a completely different way! The reason lies in the Hyper-Strat front suspension, which steering knuckles rotate separately from the swinging "candle", allowing you to get rid of power steering. The steering wheel of the GTC is also light, but much more accurate and informative than that of the regular Astra. And that is why the 3-door hatch drives just as well as the Golf.

Flying gait

Volkswagen is assembled with precision care and does not emit a single extraneous sound in motion. Even the voice of the engine, gradually breaking through the thickets of noise insulation, broadcasts exclusively to the point and does not irritate the ear. But only as long as there is even asphalt under the wheels. The road deteriorates, and the car begins to get nervous, and the hard edges of the pits and tram rails enter the salon through the plaintive clatter of the suspension, which is clearly not encouraging deviations from the norm. The car runs hard on bumps, forcing it to slow down thoroughly in front of potholes.

"Opel" behaves much more restrained: you won't scare it with broken asphalt. "Astra" rolls more gently over most road artifacts and does not annoy with comments from the suspension. The glamorous version of the GTC that wears the shoes bigger size, also very steadfastly perceives the hardships of our roads: even being shod in custom-made 19-inch "sandals", the three-door demonstrates better smoothness than the "Golf" on 17-inch wheels.

Assets and liabilities

In 2009, EuroNCAP experts successfully defeated both Golf and Astra: both cars received five stars. Nevertheless, there are several important nuances in relation to our reality. In any of the Golfs you will find seven airbags: front, side, window, plus an air bag for the driver's knees. In addition, Volkswagen can add a couple more side airbags for the rear passengers.

"Astra" by default offers only four pillows (front and side), and inflatable "curtains" cost an additional 9,500 rubles - inexpensive, but still. On the other hand, Opel even added a dynamic stabilization system to the basic versions, while Volkswagen requires 22,710 rubles for ESP.

It is also appropriate to mention here that EuroNCAP representatives have twice awarded Opel for innovations, noting the Opel-Ai traffic sign recognition system and AFL adaptive light, which can also be ordered in Russia.

The hum of turbines, snatches of sleep

This year, "people's motorists" have withdrawn from circulation the "Golf" with a stunted naturally aspirated 1.4 liter engine; and now the price list for a three-door with a 1.6 engine (102 hp) in the Trendline configuration starts at 603,000 rubles - three thousand more expensive than the most affordable Astra in the Essentia version with a 1.4-liter engine with a capacity of 101 liters. from. In addition to the aforementioned safety features, such a Golf has front power windows, heated mirrors with an electric drive, central locking with remote control. The air conditioner is installed by default only on versions with TSI and TDI engines, and separately costs 43,240 rubles. For a 5-door body you should pay an additional 22 850 rubles. In general, due to poverty, such a car will only be a pale shadow of the real "Golf".

Cars with turbo engines start at 616 thousand for 1.2TSI (85 hp), and with an optimal 1.4TSI engine "Golf" will cost 676 thousand on a "hand". For DSG, you should pay another 66,000 rubles, which is rather immodest. But you still have to dial up expensive options one by one: rear doors (22 850), ESP (22 710), multifunction display (2000), audio system (7020), fog lights (6730), steering wheel with music control buttons (10 860 ) is at least. If we add everything up, we get "Golf-1,4TSI-DSG" for 814,170 rubles.

A similarly equipped "Astra" with a 140-horsepower turbo engine and an "automatic" in the "Endzhy" configuration will cost 763,900 rubles. A significant difference! And if you set yourself the goal of buying the cheapest car for 600 thousand, then it will be quite suitable for life: it relies on air conditioning and "music".

The spectacular GTC is 12,900 rubles cheaper than a five-door, moreover, it can be taken with a 140-horsepower naturally aspirated 1.8-liter engine. In addition, the GTC has turbo engines 1.4 (140 hp) and 1.6 (180 hp) on the "arm", while conventional hatchback these power units must be loaded with an “automatic”.

The love of our compatriots for sedans is incomprehensible and immeasurable. The embodiment of ideas Car Volkswagen jetta named after a strong gust of wind. The fuller name for this wind flow is Jet Stream, which can rush and reach speeds of up to 160 km / h.

Cars Volkswagen Jetta or rival Opel Astra were produced for markets in which these modifications are in wide demand. Astra-Sedan is a competitor to the Mexican German. Although Astra's name is not so formidable, it cannot be called a simple garden flower. This car brand has long been accustomed to consider a natural hatchback, although earlier its name was called "Cadet".

Named with all the traditions of Opel, Astra began to be produced not only in the sedan and hatchback bodies, but also offered two more hypostases: a convertible and a station wagon. Buyers now have a choice. German developers have created related sedan and hatchback models, but not for sales in their country. Of course, one cannot argue, they are available in the German car markets and are in demand among the population, but not with such enthusiasm as their five-door relatives.

Astra and Jetta are produced and assembled far from their homeland, and this brings them together, although the Opel Astra is dearer and closer to us, because These fast sedans are firmly entrenched near St. Petersburg, but the German still attracts and attracts with something. However, enough ideas, let's move on to the real characteristics and their discussion.

In order to objectively and impartially compare the Opel Astra (sedan) model and a similar option - the Volkswagen Jetta, we suggest that you first get acquainted with the main characteristics of the car.

Opel Astra or Volkswagen Jetta: choice of heart or mind

Let's analyze the advantages of each car separately and find out which is better: the Astra hatchback or Jetta sedan. Let's start with the most popular model. Volkswagen Jetta meets all the expectations of the buyer. Design ideas are based on the rectangle rule. The panel, buttons, screen and the entire interior consist of rectangles and regular lines. If the "Volkswagen" creators were based on the geometry of Euclid, then the volume buttons and microclimate control knobs would become the same shape as the entire interior. But reason won out, and designers used compasses, not just straight and angular subjects of mathematics.

Also, the designers have created an outlined visor for the dashboard and scales on it. The classics won. The rectangular LCD display on the panel is like an iambic tetrameter from Pushkin's works. Many will ask: “Convenient? - Of course! Boring? - it could be worse! Qualitatively? - perhaps! ”, Although the neatly docked soft plastic panel evokes tenderness, despite the simple lines in the interior of the car.

But if we talk about doors, then this is a purely Mexican direction. An unpleasant and depressing impression is left by such errors as, of unknown origin, a substitute for leather for upholstery, or inaccurate joining of a window sill. The sound that occurs when the doors are closed can in no way be attributed to German production technologies, it seems that there is a lot of space inside the panels, through which the wind calmly walks. Uncomfortable, agree?

Comparing what is better today: the Jetta "golf-class" sedan or the Opelevskaya Astra, in comparison with the first option, the Astra disposes and enchants. Smooth lines in interior design make you dizzy, enveloping curves add zest, and illumination at night gives off mystery and mystery. This car, it would seem, can safely be called "premium class", however, it is worth approaching and taking a closer look - and the fairy tale is over! The quality of the plastic with ridiculous shiny edging leaves a lot to be desired.

It is also unclear why the "bed" on the front panel is arranged, consisting of as many as four knobs with rotating mechanisms, and several dozen buttons on the console. On-board electronics are unacceptable for such cars; their control and use is irrational, inefficient and difficult. The knipple of four positions hidden in the puck, which, in turn, reacts and rotates with any wrong movement, is inconvenient, any mistake in finding the necessary function - and all efforts are in vain, as they say. It is not modern, and clearly not suitable for advanced car enthusiasts. The conclusion suggests itself: the Jetta sedan is an excellent player, but it makes adjustments from a different parallelism of reality with unusual elements; Astra - does not reach the desired consumer level, but for an attempt - worthy of respect.

Opel Astra or Volkswagen Jetta: who is more hospitable?

Volkswagen Jetta. The spaciousness of the salon and the sofa amazes with its magnificence and luxury. We can safely say that this car can be attributed to the models of the highest classification. Unexpected freedom for legs and knees is overwhelming. I just want to ask the tallest man, two meters in height, to sit down and evaluate the geometry of the Volkswagen. Invited, asked, seated - appreciated! Not a single complaint has been received.

However, if three passengers sit on the sofa, the comfort will fall, the center tunnel will interfere. This is the price to pay for such a chic Volkswagen all-wheel drive platform. But, in the "shoulders" nowhere tight, the rear doors are equipped with comfortable armrests. If there are two, and not three, then there is more than enough space. Plus a wide inter-seat armrest for better comfort. Unfortunately for the passengers sitting behind the driver, the convenience ends there.

Opel Astra. At the rear, there is a retractable container and a 12-volt outlet for passengers. The seat will be able to fit three oversized riders. But, landing in the back seat of three guests is already a feat, the roof heaped up in a hatchback style and an incredibly high threshold interfere. Falling apart "in Volkswagen style" will not work - the extensive armrests interfere. And that's not all the difficulties. There is not enough legroom, and this is all from the fact that the wheelbase is poorly located. Conclusion: for transportation with comfort, preferably the Volkswagen Jetta.

What is more spacious and practical?

Take, for example, an ordinary metropolitan resident who left a store with purchases. He is holding a lengthy and at the same time very heavy, which must be put in the trunk of a car. So, what car will become a real assistant in a difficult situation: the Jetta sedan or the Astra hatchback.

Aster. In order to open the trunk, you can choose two methods: find the required button on the key and press it, or open the car doors and look for the desired button on the console. Of course, in order to perform any maneuver, you will have to leave the purchase and start opening the trunk. Somehow not very convenient, right?

Jetta. Everything is much simpler here. The button for opening the trunk compartment is located according to the classic scheme, but the vehicles still need to be removed from the alarm, otherwise nothing will work. You can also open it from the inside of the car. The only advantage over Astra is the non-jumping of the cargo compartment lid, but a smooth and moderate lifting. The rain is not terrible, is it convenient?

In order to transport long vehicles, both vehicles are equipped with hatches. However, there is also a difference. In Opel, a triangle suspended on a hinge allows opening, in Volkswagen - on plastic in the hands of the car owner. For those who only lack the hatch: at Jetta - pull the handle from the cargo compartment of the car and, applying muscle force, push the back of the seat; at Opel - everything is simple and clear, in the spirit of European traditions.

Opel Astra or Volkswagen Jetta: engine - power

For those who save money, both cars have units without an inflatable version with a volume of 1.6 liters, which can be controlled both mechanically and automatically. Although the Astra engine is ten times stronger in power, Jetta is fast. Jetta boasts a nimble work of hydromechanics, 1.5 seconds higher than that of the Astra. A person who buys a car for driving should pay special attention to turbo engines, which must be of the same volume. When buying a Volkswagen Jetta, you can choose between two versions: a turbine engine with 122 or 150 horsepower.

It is worth noting that any of the versions makes it possible to squeeze out the clutch itself or provide this work to a box with a multi-disc two-link module. If you look from the point of view of comfort, all this is useless, but if you are a fan of good driving with a sharp breakaway from the start, then this option is most suitable for you. The start without axle boxes takes almost 10 seconds, and in more powerful versions - in little more than 8.

How will Opel manufacturers answer us? Turbo - "four" in terms of power can only be combined with a hydraulic mechanism in 6 steps, fans of dynamic driving should adjust the engine and gearbox. But any version, even the most sophisticated, is much inferior to Jetta. Astra's record of 9.2 seconds to 100 km / h, more modest than the Volkswagen model.

Opel Astra or Volkswagen Jetta: better when cornering

Volkswagen Jetta. Any driver of this brand should always remember which engine is under the hood. Thoroughbred lever with excellent elastokinematics - designed for countries developed in the field of autocivilization. Naturally aspirated, archaic motor - for a quieter ride within ordinary Russian cities, but no one bothers to drive fast. The sedan is endowed with a multi-link rail confidence that allows you to drive confidently and purposefully. However, do not trust electronics, best of all is concentration of attention, it will not hurt.

Opel Astra. The mechanics are simple and independent of engine power. Even the most powerful models are equipped with a semi-dependent shrink circuit, which is reliable and convenient, and much better in control. Opel will not make mistakes, but there will not be much pleasure either.

Opel Astra or Volkswagen Jetta: bumps and bumps on the road

The Jetta sedan is prone to react sharply to bumps, and transmit such feelings of inconvenience to its passengers. The harder the wheel impact, the more shaking in the cabin. It is not recommended to buy special discs in order to travel comfortably. unpleasant sensations are directly related to the amount of space occupied in the car. But the suspension is surprising, it is better than that of its counterparts and glides along uneven tracks like waves. The microclimate is also not very happy, in a cold season - the first 10 km will be torture. Further - better, but not much.

Astra is the antipode of Volkswagen in the sedan body, since the stove works better, pits and irregularities are nothing at all, which means maximum comfort for sitting passengers in the car. But there are also unpleasant moments. Transparent, even too much, wheel arches. And this car is noisier than the Jetta sedan. If not for these two shortcomings, then Astra would have won a well-deserved victory.

Opel Astra or Volkswagen Jetta: testing

Both machines are tested according to the protocol of the European regulations, i.e. cars cling to a catapult, develop a speed of up to 65 km / h and here it is, a barrier for impact. And this test, both cars, passed perfectly. However, there were some nuances: Jetta showed the best result in a collision with a barrier and won in the nomination "child safety", and the Opel Astra - withstood an excellent blow from the side. All this happened at the highest level. For general safety, the Astra is equipped with a stabilization system, but you have to pay a big sum for the "curtains" (this only applies to the Opel Cosmo). For Jetta purchasers, all air-runs are available in Trainline.

Opel Astra or Volkswagen Jetta: cost and equipment

As advertisers say, for a fancy Opel, the buyer will have to pay about 675,000 rubles. This cost includes: mechanics, basic engine power with 1.6 liters of engine displacement, 4 airbags and ESP, air conditioning system, heated driver's seat and front passenger, front power windows, steel wheels, more or less an audio system and alarm. For the Jetta sedan, you will have to pay a more substantial amount - 702,000 rubles. Astra-Cosmos with a turbo engine - about 913 thousand. Which is better for the buyer to choose.

The choice is yours!

In general, there are many options for buying models with various functions and packages of additional services, everyone chooses what suits him financially, but do not forget about the style. The confusion and complex structure of both cars makes it difficult to fully understand the cost of a particular model. Jetta sedan is better and more expensive, but not much, and Astra has a balanced price tag and, moreover, a rich arsenal of bells and whistles.

For car markets, a more independent model is the Jetta sedan. And this is not surprising. The Latin American German overtook the Astra in disciplined driving and won. Astra, in turn, presented itself better and more worthy, delighting many with a good smooth ride and sophistication of design ideas, because showed a natural reflection of all the advantages of the car. The main thing is that Opel has achieved its advantages thanks to its reasonable price and affordable equipment. It is worth noting that russian assembly played an important role in the case.
