  • special key for turning crankshaft;
  • wrench 13;

So, how to regulate ultrasound with your own hands:

  1. First you need to turn off the ignition, then open the hood and reset the terminal c. Using a key, you will need to unscrew the spark plug from the first cylinder. Having done this, the technological hole to the cylinder block will need to be covered with a finger or with a rubber stopper.
  2. Having done this, it is necessary to turn the shaft to the right with a wrench for the crankshaft until pressure begins to flow from the hole for the spark plug. This will indicate the start of the compression stroke. When this happens, the plug should pop out, but if you closed the hole with your finger, you will definitely feel that the air will squeeze it out.
  3. The crankshaft should be turned until the marks on its pulley and the timing cover match. There is still one point to consider regarding the fuel used. For example, if you are filling the car with 92 or 95 fuel, then the risk on the pulley should be located opposite the middle mark. If the fuel is 80 or lower, then the mark should be aligned with the long mark, which, as mentioned above, means zero degrees. Then you will need to unfasten the latches, as well as dismantle the distributor cover.
  4. After the crankshaft stops, the distributor should be turned with an external contact to the cylinder number 1, in which you unscrewed the spark plug. When the risks are aligned and this is done correctly, you will need to mentally draw a segment from the distribution unit latch - it should run parallel to the engine axis. If this is not the case, the fixing nut will need to be unscrewed a little, then turn the device up. The nut itself should be aligned parallel to the motor axis, for this you will need to turn the rotor.
  5. After completing these steps, you will need to set the moment itself. To complete this task, you will need to connect the power, that is, throw the previously disconnected terminal onto the battery. Next, using a 13 wrench, loosen the nut with which the distribution unit is fixed.
  6. Now you need a test lamp with wires connected to it - one of the contacts should be connected to ground, and the other is connected to the low-voltage contact on the coil. Then the key in the lock must be turned to position I and the ignition is activated, the light will turn on. After that, carefully start turning the distributor from left to right until the lamp goes out. In the event that the light source did not initially burn, then this indicates that nothing needs to be done.
  7. After that, the distribution unit will need to be turned to the left, that is, in back side... When the control starts to burn, the fixing nut will need to be tightened, this will allow the distributor itself to be fixed in place.
  8. Having done this, it will be necessary to turn off the ignition and reinstall the switchgear cover. In fact, this completes the adjustment procedure, now you know how to set the ultrasound, but this is not the end of the operation. An obligatory step will be to diagnose the work performed.

The check is done as follows:

  1. Get behind the wheel and start the power unit, you will need to warm it up to working temperature... Start moving, you need to accelerate to about 40-50 km / h. When the car accelerates to such a speed, you must turn on the fourth gear and continue driving on it, while not accelerating.

  3. In the first case, the distributor must be scrolled to the right by literally 1 degree, in the second - to the left, by the same amount. 1) The engine must be turned off and the “-” terminal must be disconnected from the battery;

2) Move the piston in the first cylinder of the engine to the ignition position. To do this, you will need to remove the corresponding candle. The resulting hole must be closed with your finger, while simultaneously scrolling the crankshaft with a key in the clockwise direction;

3) At the moment when the compression stroke comes, you will feel that the finger is being pushed out by the air with great force, which is what you need to get;

4) Further, it will be extremely important to exactly align the pulley mark with the second mark, which you need to look for on the cover of the gas distribution mechanism drive. The middle mark identifies the fact that an incendiary lead of 5 degrees is set;

5) Sometimes finding labels is a bit difficult, but they are there anyway. To find them, you will need to thoroughly walk with a metal brush on the surface, and then expose a brighter light.

6) After the labels are set, the key can be removed. You will also need to return the candle to its place and connect the armored wire.

The next stage is setting the ignition timing. This procedure also implies a clear sequence of actions:

1) The "-" terminal must be connected to the battery;

2) Using the 13th wrench, you need to slightly loosen the mounting nut on the ignition distributor;

3) Next, you need to use a control light, which has two wires. The first must be connected to the ground terminal, and the second must be connected to the low-voltage ignition coil;

4) It is necessary to turn the key to the "I" position in order to turn on the ignition;

5) It is necessary to carefully turn the distributor housing in the clockwise direction up to the position at which the lamp does not go out;

7) At the end, you need to screw the mount back and ride the car to check its behavior.

How can you check the completed work for correctness?

And for this there is a clear sequence of actions that need to be performed:

1) You can check the ignition itself while driving. To do this, you need to warm up the engine, and accelerate the car to a speed of 40-50 km / h. Then you need to switch to fourth gear and drive a little time without acceleration.

3) It will be normal if the sounds stop after a while, which will be enough for the speedometer to go through the 5 km / h division;

4) If the detonation is longer, then it will be necessary to correct the position of the distributor;

5) To do this, you need to turn the valve body clockwise by 1 degree;

6) If the detonation sound is very weak or is not heard at all, then you need to turn the distributor 1 degree counterclockwise;

7) This adjustment must be carried out until the duration of the detonation is in the range of 1 - 1.5 s.

After the installation or ignition adjustment has been carried out, you need to put the distributor in place correctly. To do everything right, you need:

1) Set the first cylinder of the engine to TDC (top dead center);

2) You can determine the location of this point after the candle has been unscrewed, and the hole is closed with a finger;

3) Then you need to find a mark on the crankshaft pulley. This mark must be aligned with the mark on the timing cover by turning the crankshaft clockwise;

5) At the very end, you need to put the distributor body.

One of the quickest ways to set the ignition is by ear. In this case, you need to do these steps:

1) First you need to loosen the fastener nut on the ignition distributor;

2) The engine needs to be warmed up, but not turned off, after which you need to turn the distributor housing in turn in different directions;

3) The number of revolutions should be approximately 2000 per minute;

4) Next, you need to listen to how the motor works. The best position - the highest number of revolutions comes out with quiet operation of the power unit without any failures;

5) When this position is found, you will need to tighten the mount. It's simple, isn't it?

  2. Turn up the distributor, unscrew the distributor retaining nut. While the rotor axis is rotating, align it parallel to the motor axis.
  3. Install the distributor, tighten the nut, but do not tighten it completely.
  4. After completing all these procedures, the ignition adjustment process can begin.
  5. Connect the "control": attach one end to the "ground", the other set at the output of the ignition coil with a low-voltage distributor wire.
  6. Switch on the ignition. Turn the distributor clockwise until the control lamp goes out. If the light is off initially, the valve does not need to be turned.
  7. Rotate the distributor from right to left, fix the location of the distributor and tighten the fastening nut while the warning lamp comes on.
  8. Turn off the ignition, replace the distributor cover.

You can check if the ignition is set correctly as follows:

  1. Start the engine, start driving.
  2. Accelerate the car to 45 kilometers per hour, turn on the 4th speed, sharply press the gas pedal.
  3. After a few seconds detonation will appear (ringing of "fingers", claps). It will disappear with further acceleration of the car.

How the ignition system works on the VAZ 2106

The system consists of the following components:

  1. ignition lock;
  2. distributor;
  3. coils;
  4. high / low voltage wires;
  5. 4 candles.

Coil represents a step-up 2-winding transformer that creates high-voltage pulses with voltage over 10 kV. The bobbin B 117-A is usually used, equipped with an open-type magnetic circuit.

How to properly adjust the ignition on your own

The ignition can be adjusted in a repair shop using a stroboscope or independently. From tools and equipment you will need a crankshaft key, a key for “13”, a control lamp for 12 V, which can be replaced with a voltmeter. First, unfasten the latches and remove the distributor cover. At the first stage of work:

  1. Disconnect the (-) battery terminal.
  2. On an idle power unit, set the piston of the first cylinder to the position corresponding to the compression phase (spark slip) before top dead point.
  3. To do this, unscrew the spark plug of the first cylinder and plug the hole in the cylinder head with your finger.
  4. Turning the crankshaft with a wrench, choose a position in which air will push the finger out of the hole.
  5. We combine two marks: on the pulley and the timing cover. The latter has a long (0 °), medium (5 °) and short (10 °) risks, indicating a different ignition timing. It is necessary to combine the risk with the middle timing mark, which means setting the ignition timing to 5 °.
  6. Screw back the spark plug and connect the high voltage cable.

At the second stage of work, we determine the ignition moment:

  1. Connect the (-) battery terminal.
  2. Using a wrench, loosen the nut on “13” of the distributor fastening.
  3. We connect using crocodile clips one end of the control light is connected to the ground, the other is connected to the low-voltage wire of the bobbin.
  4. We connect the central wire of the breaker to the ground.
  5. We turn the ignition key to position "I", the control lamp will light up.
  6. We very slowly turn the distributor body clockwise until the light turns off.
  7. We turn the slider of the distributor counterclockwise until the lamp is turned on.
  8. Fixing the position of the mechanism with one hand, tighten the distributor fixing nut with the other hand.

To do this, on a running internal combustion engine with a suction (carburetor choke), set approximately 2000 rpm. engine. Loosen the distributor and rotate the body alternately in both directions. Listening to the sound of the engine, choose the optimal position of the distributor. Power unit must develop the maximum number of revolutions and work without "dips". Checking the correct ignition adjustments

  • after bringing the body of the breaker to the optimal position, tighten the fastening nut.

This will be the desired ignition moment. Tighten the distributor holder nut with a 13 mm wrench.

Checking the correct ignition timing

Driving a car at a speed of 45-50 km / h in 4th gear on a flat road, abruptly, for a short time, press the gas pedal. Listen to the engine running at the same time. A short-term detonation - 1-3 seconds (knock of "fingers") indicates correct installation ignition timing, too long, no detonation. It is necessary to correct the advance angle by rotating the distributor (counterclockwise - we make the ignition earlier, clockwise - later). Then check again.
