Today we will show how you can change the oil in the automatic gearbox of the automatic transmission AL4 with your own hands, which is installed on Peugeot 206, 207, 307, 308, 406, 407, 408, 807 and Citroen C2, C3, C4, C5, C8 cars, and also on fiat vehicles - Ullysse, Renault - Clio, Espace, Fluence, Kangoo, Laguna, Logan, Megane, Modus, Safrane, Sandero, Scenic, Symbol and Chery - A3, A5, A6. We will carry out the work on the example of the Citroen C4 car, on other models everything happens in the same way, with the exception of some details.

Drainage of old used oil from the automatic transmission should take place on a heated box, the oil temperature of which should be at least 60 degrees Celsius. This is done in order to remove suspended dirt in the oil. Therefore, we first need to warm up the engine until the cooling fan turns on. At the same time, we forcibly turn off the climate or air conditioning. After the engine cooling fan starts working, turn off the car. It is most convenient to replace it on a viewing pit, overpass or lift. If you have a crankcase guard, you will need to dismantle it in order to gain access to the oil level control plug.

Using an 8 mm socket, with a ratchet and an extension, loosen the oil level control plug:

We unscrew it together with the O-ring using the force of the hands. In advance, we substitute a container for removing waste oil. Using an 8 hexagon, unscrew drain plug, which is in the depth of the hole:

Approximately 3 liters of mining is drained, while 5.85 liters are filled in the box, thus for one partial replacement 50% of the oil is renewed. The principle of operation of the level plug is simple, it is hollow inside, respectively, its upper end determines the oil level in the box, if it is exceeded, excess oil will pour out through the hole in this plug.

Unscrewing the level plug allows excess oil to drain from the box. Using a torque wrench, tighten the plastic oil drain plug to 9 Nm. If you do not have such a key at hand, screw it in by hand, since the cork is plastic and very fragile. Then screw and tighten the oil level control plug with a torque of 33 Nm. For convenient access to the filler plug, it is necessary to dismantle the air filter housing on our Citroen C4 car. Disconnect the air supply pipe from the resonator and remove the resonator from the bracket. Using a socket head 10, unscrew the air filter mounting bolt and its metal spacer:

Using an asterisk T20, remove the two tank mounts from brake fluid and put it aside:

Use a flat screwdriver to loosen the clamp and disconnect the crankcase ventilation system pipe by pressing on the yellow plastic latch. Remove the air filter housing by sliding it to the right. Using an 8 mm tetrahedron (square) socket, with a ratchet and an extension, we loosen and unscrew the filler plug:

When doing this, be careful, it is very easy to lose the O-ring. Using a funnel with a long hose, pour 3.5 liters of oil into the automatic transmission. To fill in half a liter more than it was drained, it is necessary so that later you can correctly set the oil level.

When choosing an oil for automatic transmission AL4, be guided by the tolerances and recommendations of the manufacturer, it is best to use Total PR 9736.22 or Mobil LT 71141 as in our case. Tighten the filler plug using a torque wrench with a tightening torque of 24 Nm. In this case, the O-ring must be replaced with a new one. We start the engine and warm it up so that the oil temperature in the automatic transmission reaches 60 degrees Celsius. Accordingly, it is necessary to use a diagnostic computer, but not everyone has one, so we warm up the motor until the cooling fan turns on. At the same time, the climate and air conditioning are forcibly turned off. After that, we run the box in all modes, delaying each for no more than 10 seconds, then return the selector to the “Parking” position. We tighten the oil level control plug with a tightening torque of 33 Nm. According to the data technical regulations manufacturer, the O-ring must be replaced.

If the drained oil was heavily contaminated, I recommend driving about 200 km and then replacing it again.

With the engine running, unscrew the oil level control plug and substitute a container where we will drain the excess oil.

The only operation to be performed in the event of a small oil leak is checking the level.

For removing maximum number it is advisable to drain the oil while hot. To drain the oil, unscrew the plug (A).

Oil is charged through the dipstick hole. Use a 15/100 mesh funnel with filter to avoid the ingress of dirt.

The oil level is checked as follows:

Park the vehicle on a level, horizontal surface.

Fill the automatic transmission ZF4HP20 of Peugeot 406, 407, 607, Daewoo Leganza cars with the same amount of oil that was drained from it in order to have a level in it approximately equal to the norm.

Start the engine in mode idle move.

When the temperature reaches 80C, remove the dipstick, the oil level should be in zone B.

If the level is insufficient, add oil without switching off the engine.

The check must be carried out at an oil temperature in the range of 60 to 80C.

Start the engine, set the selector to position D.

Press the accelerator pedal all the way while keeping the brake pedal pressed; the front wheels must not turn.

The accelerator pedal can be held fully depressed for no more than 5 seconds. If this limit is exceeded, the torque converter or gearbox may be damaged.

Release the accelerator pedal immediately after the measurements are completed, while continuing to hold the brake pedal depressed until the engine stabilizes at idle speed (if this condition is not observed, the automatic transmission may fail).

The engine speed should stabilize at 2050 + 150 rpm.

If the engine speed is outside the permissible range, the torque converter should be replaced.

Hydraulic distributor, automatic transmission ZF 4HP20

To remove: Disconnect the battery. Drain the oil.

Remove:

- storage battery,

- automatic transmission computer,

- shelf battery,

air filter,

- air filter bracket.

Turn out:

- four bolts of fastening of the cover of the hydraulic distributor (attention: possible oil leakage),

- the bolt of the ZF4HP20 automatic transmission input speed sensor,

- seven bolts of fastening of the hydraulic distributor.

Remove the distributor and remove the bolt securing the output speed sensor.

Save the sensor shim (if fitted).

Install the hydraulic distributor of the ZF 4HP20 automatic transmission and the output shaft speed sensor in place. Remember to install the shim (if fitted).

Install:

- cable and fastening clamp,

- the mounting bolts of the hydraulic distributor (tighten them to the specified torque),

- cover (clean the magnetic catchers).

Make sure normal work control mechanism of the control spool. Install in the reverse order of removal.

As you can see from the table, a 4-speed transmission produced by PSA Group - AL4 was installed on the Peugeot 407 for 2004-2011. Alternative designation for - DP0. It entered serial production in 1998, it was aggregated with 1.4, 1.6 and 2.0 liter engines.

Maximum torque is 210 Nm, fully equipped electronic control... It is controlled by an adaptive ECU (responsible for controlling the torque converter, gear shifting, kikadun, etc.). Has a total of 10 control algorithms: 6 for self-adaptation and 1 each for: low temperature, cold start, overheating protection, winter mode.

The manufacturer's recommended oil change frequency for this automatic transmission: 20,000 km. Although dealers have been singing a song since 2002 (according to the charter) that it is not serviced. This box is average in quality and has the following inherent disadvantages:

TF80-SC (AM6)

This is a new generation 6-speed automatic transmission from the Japanese manufacturer. The Japanese have released this unit for almost all non-Japanese car brands: American, German, English, Italian, Swedish and of course French. This development is intended to remove the shortcomings of the previous TF60 series, improve the quality of gear shifting and reduce fuel consumption as much as possible, while proving that Aisin can produce reliable transmissions for third-party manufacturers (except).

In addition, the designers were tasked with fitting into the dimensions where the classic manual transmission was on the previous models.

They wanted one thing, they got another thing: already in the area of \u200b\u200bthe first 100,000 km, repair of the torque converter, replacement of the filter, oil, clutches, brake band and bushings is required (in principle, plus or minus a standard set with a repair kit). They also failed to overcome the problem with excessive heating of the torque converter, because in this model of the box, the ecu forces the car to be thrown into neutral at every opportunity (to save fuel), accordingly the oil is more intensive. Friction dust contaminates solenoids, valve body valves and seats under them.

For each manufacturer, the ECU and valve body are different and programmed differently depending on the model.

Changing the oil more often than every 100,000 km and preventive maintenance of the hydrotransformer every few years will significantly extend the life of this gearbox.
