  5. To simplify diagnostics, many manufacturers use the universal ODB II protocol. Its capabilities are limited and not adapted for all cars. It fits the VAZ 2110 model ideally, since a dozen does not differ in an increased amount of electronics, unlike more modern cars.

Connectors

  • Contact M - serves to connect the K-Line;
  • Contact H - power supply + 12V;

0 means there are no errors at all.
1 microprocessor defective.
4 means that the on-board power supply voltage is over 16 Volts
8 error, on the contrary, showing undervoltage, less than 8 volts.
The following errors may appear: 6, 10, 12, 14 - they mean several faults at the same time, i.e. summed up, 6 (that's 2 + 4), etc.

To be honest, there is little sense from these readings, the simplest diagnostic device will show much more and in all details. An additional on-board computer also displays all major errors, we take readings from all systems.

  5. Press the key again, after which the errors in the memory will be displayed on the screen.

The driver can do self-diagnostics on the electromechanical panel and the January-4 control unit in the following sequence:

  1. Switch off ignition.
  2. Open the cover of the diagnostic socket on the center console.
  3. Connect terminal B to the negative terminal of the battery (with the body). For this, contact A, connected to the engine crankcase, is suitable.
  4. Switch on the ignition. The "Check Engine" lamp flashes code 12, which means the start of diagnostics. The light signaling looks like this - a long flash, then a pause (about 2 seconds), two short flashes, a long pause (about 3 seconds). Signal 12 is given three times. If the signal is not given, then the diagnostic system is inactive or defective. After that, the "Check Engine" lamp will flash the errors in memory. Each code is repeated three times. If there are no errors in the memory, then the transmission of code 12 will continue.

To read controller errors, a special K-Line adapter is used, which is connected to the diagnostic connector using a connector. This connector is located on the center console behind a plastic plug (below the cigarette lighter and ashtray). The adapter has a USB cable end that connects to any laptop. A special program for reading and resetting errors (OpenDiagFree version 1.4 or 1.6) must be installed on the device.

The error reading procedure is quite simple, it is necessary:

  1. Check the process fluid level.
  2. Open the connector cover and switch on the ignition.
  3. Connect adapter or scanner to diagnostic socket.
  4. Run software on laptop.
  5. View existing errors in the program dialog box.
  6. Decrypt codes using the program interface or decryption table.
  7. Eliminate the causes of malfunctions and re-diagnose.

Meaning and decoding of codes

Reset errors

To reset the error, do the following:

  1. Switch on the ignition.

  3. Switch off ignition.
  4. Switch on the ignition again and start the engine. The Check Engine icon may light up for a short time and then go out.

If the symbol stays on, then the car has a permanent problem with some sensor or wiring. It can only be found out using a special scanner.
