What not to take?

Atmospheric engines with a volume of 1.8 and 2 liters are rather weak for this car, Mark will definitely not "blame" them (and you need it for this, admit it?) The power of the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine is 280 hp. And, firstly, there is a very high probability that, in fact, half of the herd remained there (they were exactly "burned" on these machines in full), secondly, it is unlikely that it will be in stock condition, and thirdly, the amount a tax of more than 40 thousand a year will clearly not suit those who are looking for a business sedan for 200 thousand.

What to take?

Here, in general, there is not much to choose from. First, there are not many motors. All are straight sixes. Two-liter - only atmospheric RB20DE NEO, and 2.5-liter are both atmospheric (RB25DE NEO) and supercharged (RB25DET NEO). What not to take?

Of course, just like with the previous car, you can't run into a “constructor”. And most importantly, these cars, unlike the same Marks, rotted very well. In this, many could envy them. Therefore, it is necessary to check not only the body from the outside (it can simply be doused with paint), but also all its power elements and hidden cavities. Particular attention is paid to the bottom and floor, which may not really be there anymore.


Surprisingly, Laurel's reliability also came down to him. Often the owners did not bother with maintenance at all and drove while the car was driving. "Lexus GS"

The special status of "Lexus GS" is also underlined by a wide variety of versions and an abundance of high-tech systems. For this sedan, a hybrid power plant, an all-wheel drive transmission, an adaptive suspension, steering with variable gear ratio ...

The exterior of "Lexus GS" turned out to be swift and harmonious, and the roof line, which was piled back, further emphasizes the graceful silhouette, although it limits the internal volume. Twin diamond-shaped headlights, by the way, first appeared here, and the rear red-and-white lights with two ovals are already perceived as a mark of the brand.

The build quality of the interior and finishing materials, as always in Lexus, are at their best, but the two-din radio with a cassette receiver looks archaic nowadays, although you can't find fault with its sound. After all, “Mark Levinson” is traditionally responsible for audio accompaniment in Lexus models.


Another tricky moment is related to the falling roof line. Behind high passengers, the ceiling will press on the head, and there is no excess space to take a flatter position.

During the period of interest to us, five power units of different volumes and capacities were installed on the car, from the base V6 with a modest three liters to the V8 with a volume of 4.6 liters. Ardent environmentalists are in luck: the car has a hybrid version "450h".

All versions have in common excellent insulation, high smoothness and a rather driver-like character. The basic three-liter engine does not make the "GS" a slow-moving, but in the aggregate of impressions, its capabilities are still not enough for a car of this segment. The pre-styled V8 with a volume of 4.3 liters gives the sedan already a fair amount of dynamics, which feels quite sufficient, and the restyled engine with a volume of 4.6 liters turns the Lexus GS into a bullet. The all-wheel drive in the "350 AWD" modification has an inter-axle differential with the possibility of locking, which in our climatic conditions can be considered a definite plus. Quite well balanced on the move “GS” does not pester with rolls in gentle interchanges, goes in a straight line like a locomotive.


Motors. The base three-liter V6 develops 250 hp. at 6,200 rpm and 310 Nm at 3,500 rpm. The restyled V6 has a volume of 3.5 liters and 307 hp. at 6.400 rpm, a torque of 372 Nm at 4.800 rpm and combined injection - it has both multipoint injection and direct injection nozzles. It is he who is used on the all-wheel drive version. Hybrid power unit is also equipped with this V6 plus a 200 hp electric motor, however the total output of the hybrid version is 345 hp. - simple arithmetic does not work on hybrids. The old 4.3-liter V8 develops 283 hp. at 5.600 rpm and 417 Nm at 3.500 rpm. The restyled V8 with a volume of 4.6 liters produces 347 hp, and the torque here is 460 Nm at 4,100 rpm.

Transmissions.The GS was fitted with two different gearboxes. A six-speed “automatic” with a manual shift mode was aggregated with gasoline engines, but the hybrid version “450h” received a very original transmission, which later took place on almost all hybrid passenger cars “Lexus”. This is a two-stage gearbox that combines the efforts of an electric motor, a gasoline engine and an E-CVT variator. It has six virtual gears and a manual shift mode.

The electronics work flawlessly, for the entire time of the model's release, only one characteristic malfunction was noticed - an automatically closing curtain rear window with a servo drive, it serves no more than two years, then the mechanism must be changed in assembly. The hybrid version has a serious battery capacity drop after five years. Automatic transmission "Aisin A960", created specifically for rear-wheel drive models "Lexus" - the design is quite successful, but over time, the solenoids that are responsible for controlling the clutch packages fail. If this unpleasant moment is not noticed in time, in addition to the solenoids, the clutches themselves will also have to be changed, that is, in fact, a complete overhaul of the automatic transmission will be carried out.

"Infiniti G"

The Infiniti brand was slightly delayed in attacking the Russian market, but with the start of official deliveries it began to act in the usual Nissan style - boldly and assertively. Thus, we have a very spacious interior, small overhangs, and the power unit with automatic transmission is within the base, which contributes to a good weight distribution. This platform is called “Front Mid Ship”. The appearance of the car turned out to be quite aggressive, impetuous and harmonious, although the signs of premium look here somewhat differently than, for example, in the prim and strict Lexus.

IN expensive versions the interior is lavishly decorated with natural wood, which looks somewhat strange in a sedan with sporting ambitions, although beautiful. The budget versions, perhaps, even more correspond to the harmony of strength and spirit - aluminum is used in the decoration. Otherwise, everything is standard. Electric drives regulate everything that is possible. Chairs have memory. The audio system will delight you with high-quality sound (“music” here from “BOSE”). But not everyone will like the not particularly logical algorithm for multimedia settings, but over time you even get used to it. There is no shortage of space on the back couch, but it is better to sit here together, since the high center tunnel will not allow you to sit comfortably in the middle. Even at the first inspection, it becomes obvious that “G” is a car for the driver, and the rest of the seats, although convenient, are for extras.


As soon as you sit behind the wheel, plunging into the tight embrace of seats with decent lateral support, the understanding of the positioning of the car finally comes. And with the push of the "start / stop" button, the fighting spirit is further enhanced. Infiniti is always working on the sound of its models, and the V6 G is no exception to the rule. The pre-styled version had 315 hp at its disposal, and the restyled version already had 330.

The proprietary Atessa E-TS all-wheel drive system is responsible for the distribution of traction along the axles, if necessary, throwing forward up to 50% of the torque using an electronically controlled friction clutch (by the way, a similar system is on the Nissan GT-R supercar). The automatic transmission of the car also has a surprise, which is called “Downshift Rew Matching”: during intensive acceleration, at the moment of gear change, the motor itself raises the revs so as not to reduce the gained pace.

In general, “Infiniti G” is more appropriate to call a sports car with aristocratic manners of a business sedan. You can ride it calmly, but here it is as if everyone is against it - and the cannon acceleration, which is breathtaking, and moderate roll in corners, and a sharp steering wheel with a beautiful feedback, and a tenacious suspension, which, oddly enough, is not particularly stiff.


Motors. From 2006 to 2008, a 3.5-liter V6 engine with a capacity of 315 hp was installed on the car. at 6.800 rpm, with a torque of 358 Nm at 4.800 rpm. After 2008, the engine reached 200 "cubes" - up to 3.7 liters. Power as a result rose to 330 hp. at 7,000 rpm and torque up to 361 Nm at 5,200 rpm. The motors are atmospheric, very reliable. The only thing they can blame is a good appetite for high-octane gasoline.

Transmissions.The transmission scheme of the "Infiniti G" is one - electronically connected all-wheel drive called "Atessa E-TS". Accordingly, it is necessary to flush the radiator honeycombs annually, since a heat exchanger clogged with dirt can burst from excessive pressure and overheating, and there it is not far from overhauling the motor. It is necessary to monitor the oil level, which should be close to the “MAX” mark, since it performs here not only lubricating, but also cooling function. Attention should be paid to the braking system, because with an aggressive driving style (and the car allows it), the brake discs overheat and warp. And one moment. The "M" series was born just a year earlier than the "G", but this meant that the model did not get the next generation V6 engine. The “M” versions are less popular than the “G” series, and not only because of the motor or higher price. It is not very convenient to operate an almost five-meter car in the city. And the Russian buyer at that time was not familiar with the flagship of the Infiniti brand either.

The car was offered in several versions - with a 3.5-liter V6 engine, 4.5-liter "eight", rear or all-wheel drive. Moreover, the all-wheel drive version was equipped with only the base engine. Was a little apart sports modification car called “M45S”, which outwardly differed little from the usual “M45”, but had a reconfigured suspension and steering rear wheels.

The exterior of the “emka” is rather neutral, but this is understandable - in the premium segment, designer extremism usually does not take root. However, there are a few recognizable features that made up the mark of the brand at that time - the characteristic angular head optics and taillights flaring towards the wings. The M45S is also remembered for the huge front bumper air intake.


Inside, everything is familiar again - the architecture of the front panel, wood (but there is more of it than in the junior sedan "G"), the analog clock of the center console and a large touchscreen display. But there are also original moments. For example, genuine leather, with which the doors are sheathed from the inside, is folded like a curtain - an interesting technique that raises the degree of solidity. There is a lot of space behind: neither in width nor in height there was no lack of space. But the high central tunnel will make it difficult for the average passenger to get comfortable.

The most common aftermarket modification is the “M35X”: the base motor plus the Atessa E-TS all-wheel drive. The suspension is tuned in favor of comfort, so that even on poor surfaces the usual “emka” will not shake the soul, although there is no question of excessive laxity either. It has a pretty sharp steering wheel with good feedback and predictable behavior at the limit of possibilities.


“M45S” is completely different. Let the acceleration to “hundreds” in 6.2 seconds - the result is not from the realm of fantasy, the sensations that you get while driving are invariably pleasing. For setting up the release of a sports “emka” I would give the highest point, and even with a plus. By the way, at one time this particular modification was noted by experts as “one of the most correct sounding”. The roar of the V8 on the M45S is simply mesmerizing. But the matter is not limited to audio accompaniment only. The suspension is clearly stiffer here, and coupled with the V8 it sets up an active mood. Rear-wheel drive, stabilization is turned off completely. If you want to take a turn in a skid, the car allows it even for beginners, and not just for masters of sports. In general, this modification is very predictable in behavior.

Motors.Two motors were installed on the car. The 3.5-liter V6 has 280 hp. at 6,200 rpm and a torque of 363 Nm at 4,800 rpm. The top-end V8 4.5-liter engine has 339 "horses" at 6.400 rpm and 452 Nm at 4.000 rpm.

Transmissions. "Infiniti M" was produced with four-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive. The automatic transmission had five steps and three modes - standard, sport and manual. The “M45S” version had paddle shifters.

Infiniti cars in general and the M series in particular, for all their reliability, are very demanding on the quality of service. There are also nuances related to this particular model. The 3.5-liter V6 has a great oil appetite, so the lubrication level must be carefully monitored, since it is also responsible for cooling. Since the dipstick is very badly positioned, insert it with extreme caution. If you miss, the motor will push the oil out through the open hole in a few minutes. All Infiniti engines are fairly thermally loaded, so I would recommend using only native antifreeze. The old five-speed automatic transmission is quite reliable, and jerky gear changes may not yet be a sentence. It is possible that this is the fault of a contaminated worker aTF fluid or its insufficient level, due to which the oil pump does not create the necessary pressure in the system. The "proprietary" sore of the luxury unit from "Nissan" is weak brakes, so it is better not to overload them with constant emergency braking, otherwise the discs will warp and there is vibration on the brake pedal.

"Honda Legend"

A rather controversial business sedan was offered at the time by "Honda". One gets the impression that it all consists of contradictions. The company never produced cheap cars, but it also tried not to get into the premium segment. But the “Legend” model at the price competes not even with fellow countrymen from Japan, but with premium “Germans”, and not in the cheapest trim levels. The declared specifications the car's imagination is also not amazing. What do you have to pay so much for?

For originality. “Legend” has something to offer that is beyond the reach of competitors. For example, there is a unique SH-AWD all-wheel drive system, which experts highly appreciate. The point is not even that the interaxle friction clutch juggles torque at the command of the sensors, depending on many factors and the wishes of the driver. IN rear gear there are clutches with an electromagnetic drive, which redistribute the moment between rear wheels... Simply put, if almost all all-wheel drive systems, structurally combined with ESP, can influence the direction of the car's movement only passively - by braking the wheels, then SH-AWD is even able to add torque to the wheel if necessary. In fact, we are already talking about thrust vector control, and this costs corresponding money, since it gives the car additional stability in all driving modes. Naturally, "Legend" is packed with the latest technology for 2008.


Externally, the car is impressive from any angle. Looking in profile - a large and beautiful business sedan. The feed also turned out - original taillights, chrome lining and two large exhaust pipes emphasize the premium status, but in front “Legend” professes the current and recognizable corporate style.

If you look into the salon, it immediately becomes clear that the model was conceived as a car for the driver. There is also room for passengers, the rear sofa is wide and welcoming, but there is not much excess space. But in front it sits well - a large touchscreen display, a tree around, which can be found even on the rim of the steering wheel and in the knob of the automatic transmission selector; beautiful chairs with decent lateral support, electrically adjustable and memory; perfectly legible instrument panel with unobtrusive bluish backlighting. With ergonomics, in general, everything is in order.


On the move, the car evokes multipolar sensations, but one thing is clear - when the "Legend" was created, they did not think much about operating it in Russia. This is hinted at by numerous nuances like the 45th wheel profile, stiff suspension, rather low ground clearance, long wheelbase ... In general, a business sedan for our realities should be more universal. Such vehicles are not subject to adaptation due to the originality of the design, offering the buyer very specific pros and cons. The advantages of the "Legend" lie precisely in the handling, exceptional tenacity in turns and safety even when the pace of movement is too much. But there are also unpleasant surprises. For example, dynamics with such a voluminous, powerful and torque motor could be more fun. The “automatic” for a car of such positioning is too thoughtful, although, when necessary, you can use the sport mode. The delays almost disappear, but you don't want to drive like that all the time - fuel consumption is off the charts. In general, the car is a contradiction, although attractive in a number of characteristics.

Motors: The "Legend" was fitted with an aspirated V6 with a volume of 3.7 liters. The engine is equipped with a proprietary Honda SOHC VTEC gas distribution system. Its power is 295 hp. at 6,200 rpm and a torque of 371 Nm is available from 5,000 rpm.

Transmissions:The car is equipped with a proprietary SH-AWD all-wheel drive system and an automatic five-speed gearbox with standard and sport modes.

- “Legend” has a large safety margin for units. True, it also has its own characteristics. With an active driving style at high revs, the engine consumes oil very actively. So, having passed the track with a breeze, do not forget to check its level. You should not save on process fluids, and first of all it concerns again engine oil: It is advisable to use only high-quality synthetics, otherwise replacing 24 hydraulic lifters can cost a pretty penny. It is undesirable to drive with an empty tank, since the fuel pump is not cooled, and besides, it captures air - from this it can overheat and burn out. In our latitudes, on cars older than three years, problems begin with the ABS - the contacts of the wheel sensors are oxidized. You should not rush to change them, perhaps ordinary cleaning will be enough. In general, there are a lot of electronics in the car, and you need to monitor it. For example, a fast discharge of the battery can be an indirect cause of the beginning problems.
