Of those who considered an easier option for themselves, they usually upgraded the engine crankcase. The problem of protecting the LuAZ-969M crankcase has been known for a long time: there is insufficient strength. Steel 3 mm thick will clearly bend when exposed to a load from banal hits on high bumps or dumping into a deep rut. The goal is to replace this sheet with a real bend resistance. If you do not approach the problem too radically, you can increase protection by welding stiffeners along the edges of the sheet.

In the overwhelming majority of cases, the standard carburetor was replaced, since the engine often stalled. Almost any carburetor can be called the best compared to the installed one. Using the VAZ engine in tuning LuAZ

Most often, a VAZ engine is taken for installation, for example, a VAZ-2130, with a volume of 1,774 liters and a power of 76.6 hp, which is a continuation of a large series of VAZ-21213 engines. Of course, this option does not hold up to the same Niva with a similar engine, but compared to the not modernized LuAZ, it feels quite pleasant convenience. At the same time, fuel consumption is within 10 liters per 100 km both on the highway at a speed of over 100 km / h and in the city. The maximum speed cannot exceed 120 km / h, which, of course, is upsetting. Then the car accelerates very sluggishly or does not accelerate at all. As a result, we have noticeable improvements, but we cannot achieve any great heights.

Diesel 1N Toyota

A known option is to install a 1N diesel engine from Toyota. The engine has a volume of 1.5 liters. There is one point here, which is a clear advantage: when water gets in, the engine does not stall, which is an important fact for an SUV. True, it is worth noting that from the experience of operating diesel engines with a volume of less than 2 liters it is known that their service life is rather short, so the choice of such an engine should be deliberate.

Installation this engine passes without problems, even without special experience in tuning, you can meet a maximum of a week. Modification of units and tuning of the LUAZ engine

But if this is not the case, which is quite likely, then you can use a donor, because it is pointless to resort to repairing such an old engine.

The so-called "heart" of the car was not quite suitable for this car already then, let alone now. No modifications and upgrades will help here, the only correct solution would be to completely replace the power unit with another, for example, from the VAZ family. Many fans of this brand have been successful in making friends with LUAZ with a 1200 cc engine from.

Of course, you need to sweat a little, because it is easy to install an engine from a "penny", but it is quite difficult to coordinate its operation with other systems. The problem begins with the fact that the oil pan from the Zhiguli is not included in the standard LUAZ protection due to its convex shapes.

This problem is solved by maintaining the configuration of the standard security sheet, for which first the oil pump on the donor engine is changed. As a result of this, the pump, namely, its oil receiver, if compared with the classic one, is decently raised.

It remains only to fit the pallet. This protection implies the replacement of at least two more parts, because the diameter of the pulleys on the crankshaft and pump will be too large. Consequently, the pulleys will have to be ground from scratch. The standard generator with its 40 amperes does not at all fit into the current idea of \u200b\u200bthe energy consumption of a car.

To do this, you need to use at least a unit from an engine with 85 amperes from the same VAZ 2101. There may be slight difficulties with the connection of the transmission and the engine, as a result of which you will have to adjust the shape of the bell to match its retractors. It will not be superfluous to install a clutch from an inexpensive foreign car as a consequence.

Interwheel blocking is also indispensable. A rear differential is sorely needed and is fairly easy to fit into the front main pair. In this case, when the stern is firmly connected, the transmission is completely blocked. Both drives can be modified in the same way.

Before removing and modernizing the panel, you can start replacing the stove - the old one often fails and does not justify its purpose at all. But do not be zealous with tuning the panel - the maximum that can be done with it in order to maintain ergonomics is to cover it with leather or chrome.

The motivation for tuning the cabin should be primarily safety. Consideration should be given to installing comfortable seating. The rear seats can be sacrificed for a roll cage. Although the car seems small, there is a lot of space inside the cabin and there is plenty of room for imagination.
