In general, Lada Granta liftback is my first new car, before that there were many different cars different brands: from an old sprinter to the 100th Cruiser, from VAZ 06 to Priora. And they were all second-hand, so don't ask why I didn't buy second-hand with this money, and it would be happiness. I wanted a new one.

In terms of finance, at the moment there was only enough for Grant. There were a lot of Russian cars, so I had no illusions about the build quality and spare parts. I've been driving for less than a week and I'm already waiting for the first thing to come.

So, in order, let's start with the purchase history. I decided so decided. I waited in a new body, because what's the point of taking old bodyif a new one is about to arrive at a car dealership.

As soon as the cars arrived at the dealership, I went to watch it live. I wanted to take a white one in the minimum configuration for 440,000 rubles, but remembering how bad it was for me in the summer in a black nine without an air conditioner, how hard it is to turn the steering wheel in a working gazelle and in my Suzuki Escudo on large wheels without an electric power steering, and also turn the oars, instead of the window buttons, I changed my mind.

In my city there was no average configuration, I had to travel 400 km to another city. Pre-phoned, of course. Inconvenience was caused by the situation with the purchase of a car, namely, that they did not have PTS in stock.

First you must pay a deposit, then they pay to the plant, the plant instructs DHL to hand over the TCP to the car dealership. And then you pay for the rest and pick up the car from the TCP. So, I had to travel 800 km twice. On Saturday I made a deposit and took it from the salon only on Wednesday. I think this is some kind of chaos.

You come to a salon like that with money, you already think about how you are leaving on it, and they kick you for five days. Yes, somehow, what if I change my mind or become a psycho and buy a used one. In general, they do not hold on to the client. My opinion...

To be honest, I didn't even take a test drive. All the same, it is cheaper not to buy a new car, and there was only enough money for it. Do not forget, we sweep aside used ones. In general, Granta liftback is the color of the blue planet. The TCP says bright blue. Equipment with EUR, front windows, air conditioning, rear wiper, rear two head restraints, maybe something else. 87hp 8kl mechanic. There was not enough money for 16kl. And so I wanted.

Impression

In general, I sit down, leave the car dealership, drove 10 kilometers and became depressed. I don't even want to describe my feelings. I drove away immediately on booking the front part with a film from chips. I had to part with the car for another day, I did not travel even an hour. The next day I took it, somehow it became more cheerful in my soul, I don't know why.

I forgot to write, the car itself is 502,500 rubles. + 10,000 anticorrosive with wheel arches. The dealer installed everything himself before the sale. Therefore, when I arrived, they already announced the price of 512,500 rubles with these additional stages. And I did not resist. Anti-corrosion of the entire bottom and arches is good.

Well, now about the car: the car itself looks nothing, but it seems to me that it would be a little wider and a little lower, otherwise it looks somehow awkward from behind. The engine is still running in, so far there is nothing to say, in the city it is quite enough, but on the highway uphill it is hard for her. Even trucks passed me up the hill.

Well, I think after running in everything will be corrected. I try not to give more than 3000 rpm, and on the highway 110 and no more. The box on the new Grant howls - in all gears howls. The gears are still a bit hard to switch on, well, probably everything will get used to it.

The noise is average - nothing new here. Somewhere in the front side windows the wind is blowing at speed, you can hear it well. The smell in the cabin is, of course, horrible. Everything rattles a little, something in the panel, in the doors, the closed rear windows also rattle, the front ones, if you open them 2-4 cm, also rattle.

Landing with my height 192 cm is too high. I would like to lower it, but no options. The suites have seats with seat height adjustment. I didn't like the dashboard. The scale is orange for everyone, but you cannot change the backlight.

There are a lot of places on the tidy, but it's not used properly. For example, parameters temp. engine, air temperature, mileage before refueling, gasoline consumption, voltage on the mains, it was possible to display everything in a column, well, no, only one parameter can be displayed on the display.

And if you need to look at another, you have to switch the wiper lever on the joystick. Enrages, to be honest. Also in the tidy, the edging of the rings is black glossy, it often glows with something. I am often distracted by this, I think that something caught fire on the scoreboard.

The suspension on the new Lada Granta liftback 2018 is quite decent. Maybe just new. Pits, bumps - everything works out. The only thing, I already said that it would be a little lower, and so far there are no complaints about the suspension.

The trunk, of course, is large, the seats fold out, at least children will be able to sleep there. The jack is funny, plastic. The headlights seem to shine nothing, but somehow they are a little hares, that's when they used to whitewash the ceilings with lime and then, as they say, the hares remained, so the headlights also shine.

When starting a wild vibration from under the bottom, most likely, the muffler beats like that. I'll go to the MOT, ask the dealer a question. Also, at speeds over 70 km / h, some creaking appeared in the front right wheel. While barely audible. Hopefully it will take a long time without problems. At least serious.

In the engine design department of the Volga Automobile Plant, we found out what new unit better than its predecessor and what alterations were required for this.

The modernization of the VAZ-21114 eight-valve engine was brought closer by two major events: the launch of Grants on the market and the transition of the entire model range to the next ecological step - Euro-4. And although the former 1.6-liter, despite its considerable age (its roots stretch back to the mid-80s of the last century), did not look a feeble old man, the new standards and trends required extensive changes. At the same time, the opportunities for maneuvering minders, as often happens, narrowed the financial framework.

Therefore, we went along the already beaten path. Indeed, a few years earlier, a 16-valve engine of the same volume (VAZ-21126), on which some technical solutions were tested, survived the update. Moreover, they were able to unify not only the approach, but also many details, for example, a connecting rod with bushings, a piston pin and rings. The cylinder block, although with its own index, is exactly like that of the VAZ-21126 engine: with additional nozzles for cooling the pistons with oil and plate honing of the cylinder walls, which reduces the run-in time.

However, it was not possible to copy exactly all the changes: it is more difficult to organize the workflow in a motor with two valves per cylinder. Moreover, the requirements for the modernized eight-valve turned out to be stricter. Take at least a resource - 160 thousand km for the VAZ-21126 and 200 thousand km for the VAZ-21116. What was changed and why, photos with captions will tell.

The new H-intake module was also tested on an intermediate version - the VAZ-11183-50 engine (with a Euro-4 collector, but with a heavy connecting rod-piston group). Even without relief, it was only by optimizing the intake and exhaust that the main characteristics were improved.

The upgraded unit received longer channels, which made it possible to raise the torque, approaching the indicators of a sixteen-valve. At the same time, for the VAZ-21116, its peak was reached by 700-800 rpm lower. Another important feature: an electromechanical module is now installed at the entrance to the receiver throttle (the common name is "e-gas"), and from the accelerator pedal to the engine there is not a cable stretched, but wires. Thus, the control unit was able to fully control the supply of not only gasoline, but also air to the cylinders. This is for the benefit of not only ecology, but also safety, because many electronic assistants (their list on VAZ models will soon be replenished) keep the car on the trajectory, including by dosing traction.

In the former collector with a cylindrical block, the four channels coming from the engine converged almost to one point - the flows exhaust gases collided, creating additional back pressure.

In the modernized one, the length of the pipes was increased, and the flattened shape of the block made it possible to change the scheme of their entrance into the "barrel": the flows were lightened, respectively, reducing resistance and losses.

The layout and noise norms did not allow making the channels even longer: the longer the channels, the louder the sound. In addition, the further the collector is moved away from the engine, the slower it warms up and the longer it takes to operate. Result: more harmful substances are emitted from exhaust pipe after starting.

One of the most laborious processes was the selection of the piston. At first, they wanted to leave the motor "plugless" (when the timing belt breaks, the valves do not bend), so the first pistons were with holes on the bottom. But this idea was abandoned: due to the increased thermal load in the thinned places, microcracks appeared, which affected the resource. Since in an eight-valve engine, a part of the combustion chamber is located in the piston (this is the only way to ensure a normal combustion process), the size of the so-called trough (German Mulde - hollow, trough) - recesses in the bottom - was selected.

Due to the critical temperature in the area of \u200b\u200bthe first piston ring, it was necessary to introduce additional anodizing of the groove. By the way, 16-valve motors experience less thermal stress in this area and therefore do without additional processing.

The new piston has one more interesting and very important difference for our conditions. A graphite coating is applied to the skirt to reduce the likelihood of seizure during cold start. It is possible that the VAZ-21116 will share graphitization with 16-valve units.

Indicators of power and torque of eight-valve VAZ engines: 21114 - with a relatively heavy ShPG; 11183–50 - with a heavy ShPG, but with new inlet and outlet; 21116 - completely modernized.

Even more extensive are the changes in the block head. Due to the modified combustion chamber, it has grown in height by 1.2 mm - such an adjustment can be made without serious readjustment of the equipment operating in the factory shops.

Using computer simulation, the optimal flow area of \u200b\u200bthe gas channels was selected, improving their throughput and reducing inlet losses. Since the power was increased, the engine became more thermally loaded, so it was necessary to include in the technological process an additional operation - heat treatment. By the way, all 16-valve heads pass it. In addition, for the sake of more efficient heat dissipation, the cross section of the cooling channels was increased, but only those that really need it.

We have increased the reliability of the gas joint by introducing a two-layer metal gasket: it provides higher specific pressures and tightness with a lower tightening force. This made it possible to reduce the diameter of the bolts tightening the head and the cylinder block (from M12 to M10). The advantages are not only reduced weight and metal savings: the lower the tightening force, the less the cylinders are deformed. Of course, the count goes to microns, but it is these little things that affect the reliability and resource.

Since when the timing belt breaks on the VAZ-21116 engine, the pistons meet the valves, one of the important tasks was to develop a more reliable and durable drive.

A trusted partner, Gates, helped to find the belt. The serial sample fully met the main technical conditions: to operate at temperatures from -40 to +45 ºС and did not require replacement for the entire engine life. Yes, yes, it will not have to be changed before 200 thousand km! And tighten too - the automatic tensioner will take care of this.

It not only frees you from unnecessary operation, but also ensures the correct tension, which affects the resource no less than the quality of the belt itself. If overtightened, the roller bearings and the water pump will suffer. The latter, by the way, was also modernized: they installed a more reliable bearing and oil seal, and also increased productivity (a unit from a sixteen-valve, only with a pulley for a narrow belt).

The drive is now protected from mechanical damage by a closed plastic casing with hermetic seals.

Modernization of the eight-valve engine for front-wheel drive models took two years. The main goals were to reduce fuel consumption and increase dynamic performance by reducing mechanical engine losses, and along the way - reducing harmful vibrations and noise. And of course, increased reliability. Euro-4 standards require the engine to maintain its original emission parameters twice as long - up to 160 thousand km. And we have almost doubled the resource: from 120 thousand to 200 thousand km. The connecting rod-piston group of the VAZ-21116, like that of the sixteen-valve, is purchased. In the future, we plan to produce some parts ourselves, and we will continue to purchase some from foreign partners from the Federal Mogul group, who intend to localize the production of components in Russia. We also take into account the interests of the Renault-Nissan alliance. If the volume of production of motors grows, then it would be reasonable to purchase optional equipment and organize the production of parts for the connecting rod and piston group in Togliatti.

Also, when stopping, the engine temperature constantly rises to 102-103 degrees, with a working 84-85. But this seems to be a feature of all modes, I did not notice such temperature jumps on foreign cars.

Also on a cold one, after 20-30 seconds when you start the engine, some kind of shooting from the exhaust pipe begins and the speed of the revolutions is noticeable, but this quickly passes. We will deal with all this at the first MOT. Zero maintenance took place on 3 thousand, according to the regulations, on this run, valves are regulated on 8-valve motors.

When the air conditioner is on, even with the air vents on the front panel closed, cold air still blows through the slots!

Even before zero maintenance, twice in neutral, the rpm jumped up to 5,500 and held on for a couple of seconds. As I was told in the salon, this is normal, since the throttle is electronic, this sometimes happens.

The fuel remaining indicator in the tank lives its own life. It happens that it shows 2/3 of the tank, but 35-40 liters fit without problems. With a volume of this very tank of 50 liters.

Well, in the region of 10 thousand mileage on the odometer, crickets began to appear in the cabin. Especially obtrusively something buzzes in the driver's door. By the way, there was not a single cricket on Witz, with a mileage of well over 200.

The fact that the windows of the front doors do not go down completely, I learned only after the purchase. In the summer, you can't stick your hand out of the window.

Well, now to the pluses, there are actually quite a few of them.

The suspension on the Lada Granta, although it is very roll in the corners, but rather gently swallows the unevenness of the road. High ground clearance is also an important point, since at work you often have to travel on dirt roads and other bumps, I have not yet touched anything with my belly.

If we compare Grant with the classics, which she actually replaced in lineup AvtoVAZ, here Grants also have many advantages.

Engine sound in the cabin when calm ride almost inaudible. Quite comfortable front seats, often you have to drive 500-700 km a day, you don't feel much fatigue.

On the highway cruising speed 120-140 km per hour, rides without problems, 3000 rpm on the tachometer at 112 km / h. Oddly enough, the speedometer does not lie at all, the readings are exactly the same as through GPS. Although even on new expensive cars speedometers usually lie at 5-10 km / h. I accelerated it to 165 to the maximum, the ride is, of course, not comfortable, it feels like the car will take off now.

The consumption in the city is about 10 liters, along the highway 7-8. The dynamics for 87 forces is quite good. For the sake of interest, I signed up for a test drive Grants Sport, I did not notice a particularly big difference with my own, neither in dynamics, nor in handling.

Outcome

Although the review turned out to be more negative, in general, Lada Granta is quite a solid workhorse. For two months of operation I got used to it. Rejection, as in the first days after purchase, no longer causes.
