So if you don't really need four-wheel drive - take the usual "Mini" or the Clubman version: otherwise why pay such money? For a dark plastic body kit?

Traditionally for MINI, many options can be purchased in packages, which is slightly more profitable than separately. The cheapest set of add-ons will cost 30 thousand (this will be a package of electrical adjustments and heating), and the most expensive - 188 thousand rubles.

After all, a small crossover MINI is not cheap at all: the basic 122-strong version with "mechanics" in Russia is sold for 995 thousand rubles, and with an "automatic" - almost 80 thousand more. For the all-wheel drive Cooper S with mechanical box transmissions will be asked for 1.28 million rubles, and for the version with "automatic" - at least 1.354 million. And we must take into account that these will be cars in a rather meager configuration. You will have to pay extra for bi-xenon headlights (42 thousand rubles), and for separate climate control (24 thousand), and for big wheels with stripes on the body; for "music", navigation (46 thousand), heated glasses, mirrors and seats (from 3 to 17 thousand for each item in the list of options) and even for the stabilization system.

What else can you buy for 1.8 million rubles

As a result, the test car, stuffed with options to the eyeballs, received a price tag on which the figure was 1,782 million rubles - almost half a million more than the base model. But this is not the limit - we did not have, for example, a panoramic roof for 59 thousand rubles, a Harman Kardon audio system for another 50 thousand, and a sports suspension for 12 thousand. And it's good that it wasn't!

Because even with the stock chassis, the MINI Countryman Cooper S feels crushingly tough!

The blue MINI crossover with white roof and white wheels is a stylish thing. And compact - it's no more difficult to park on it than on any B-class hatchback. More precisely, even simpler: it has short overhangs and ground clearance slightly more than small hatches.

It took almost a week to come to terms with the Countryman's suspension settings. At first I wondered: is he really that tough? I drove through all the cracks, pits and joints, now quickly, now slowly, with an empty interior and with passengers. Equally tough. Checked tire pressure - normal. At some point, there was even a crazy thought that they had forgotten to remove the transport spacers in the suspension on the test car - I heard about such non-fictional stories more than once.

But no: "Mini" is just very tough, and that's it. Dot.

Only later did I understand the rules of driving a "Countryman": it is necessary to dodge all, even the most insignificant, defects in the roadway. And nothing else. Moreover, the British crossover is quite well adapted for "road slalom"! Minimal rolls (thanks to a stiff suspension), quick response to turns of the "short" (slightly more than two turns from lock to lock!) Steering and precise and very effective brakes.

As a result, each trip turned into a game of "checkers": he drove around all the holes in the road - well done. I couldn't - bang! Get the hardest hit on the suspension. I'm not exaggerating! In the first week, I had to stop and check the wheels two or three times, expecting to see a pineapple-sized hernia or a split disc. Then I got used to it.

On a good road, the Countryman Cooper S rides flat and precisely - there is hardly a car in this class with similar handling characteristics.

I'm also used to the toy appearance of the MINI Countryman Cooper S. It looks like a model of an SUV on a scale of 1: 1.75 - big wheels, a cheeky face with big headlights and round fog lights, swollen bumpers, but at the same time a playful blue body paint, white stripes on hood, white mirrors and a white roof-cap.

Inside, the story is the same. Everything is rounded and cartoonish: a speedometer basin in the middle of the front panel, inside which there is an LCD display of the multimedia system, round vents of the ventilation system, a "winged" round air conditioner display, round buttons on the steering wheel, oval pedals and a round tachometer nestled right on the steering column. Even the inner handles for opening the doors - and they have a semicircular shape. All in all, Cubist fans won't like it here.

    Inside the MINI Countryman, there are solid circles and ovals. Not a single sharp edge and not a single right angle.

    The seats are also rounded, and the height adjustment is made here by a lever with a round base.

    On the ceiling there is a lever that can be used to adjust the color of the interior lighting (this is an option).

    Door opener handles - semicircular. But comfortable.

    The joystick for controlling the multimedia system can be rotated, tilted in different directions and pressed. On the sides of it are the "Home" and "Menu" keys.

    The center tunnel has a USB connector and an AUX input.

    On the runners-rails above the central tunnel, various accessories are installed that can be moved between the front and rear parts of the passenger compartment - for example, an eyeglass case, as on a test car.

    In the center of the front panel is a huge speedometer with an integrated LCD display. There is navigation and access to mobile applications.

    Under the climate control unit there are power window "toggle switches" and central locking... Under it are the buttons for turning on the parking sensors and other auxiliary systems.

But, despite its frivolous image, the MINI Countryman proved to be quite practical. The front seats will be comfortable even for tall drivers - thanks to the tilt and reach of the steering wheel, and the ability to adjust the seat height. The back is also not very crowded. Moreover, the rear sofa can be ordered as a two-seater version - with a "rail-organizer" in the middle, and in a traditional, "three-seater" version. But you won't have to pay extra for any of the options: separate rear seats are a free option. But in fact, and in another case, the seats have longitudinal adjustment and adjustment of the backrest angle.

Even the trunk is not tiny at all: 350 liters with the rear seat backs up (more than in the B-class hatchbacks), and 1170 liters when folded. There is a backlight and a 12-volt socket.

The price for a new car starts at 730,000 rubles. The first generation car was produced for exactly 10 years, from 1961 to 1971, and then was excluded from production program... Turning the key is a thing of the past - now the engine starts and stops light pressing the start / stop button. At night, the interior panels burn in the cabin, and their color and intensity can be changed ...

Bavarian roots

The novelty is built on the global front-wheel drive platform BMW (the MINI brand belongs to the BMW concern), which is used by all passenger cars MINI, as well as compact representatives of the "Bavarians", in particular, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and Gran Tourer, as well as the X1 crossover. Soon the next-generation BMW 1 will ride on the same chassis.

The initial modification is equipped with front-wheel drive, a manual transmission and a 3-cylinder petrol 1.5-liter turbo engine with 136 hp. However, it can be equipped with an all-wheel drive transmission and an "automatic". All other options offered in Russia have 4-cylinder engines, four-wheel drive and an automatic transmission. This is a version with a 2-liter 192-horsepower gasoline unit, as well as modifications with a 2-liter turbodiesel, developing 150 or 190 hp. depending on the degree of forcing. We are testing a 150-horsepower version.

Compared to the previous generation model, the new Countryman has dramatically increased in size. He added 20 cm in length and 3 cm in width. The height, however, has decreased by 0.4 cm, but this is practically nothing. The wheelbase has grown by 7.5 cm. Volume luggage compartment increased by 100 liters - from 350 to 450 liters. In a word, the world has never seen such a big MINI.

Belonging to the brand in the design of the novelty is immediately recognizable: this "big-eyed" front end with a slight slope windshield has many fans all over the world. But if earlier they were forced to put up with the lack of practicality in their favorite car, then the Countryman is quite good as a family vehicle.

First of all, there is a really spacious cabin here. Therefore, contrary to usual, I will start a story about “ the inner world»Crossover with rear seats. Surprisingly, there was more space here than expected. There is an impressive gap in front of the knees, for the feet there is a lot of space under the pillow front seat, even if it (chair) is lowered all the way, and there is plenty of space above the head. Although the test specimen is equipped with panoramic roofwho ate a few centimeters from the ceiling. The backrests of the sofa are adjustable in tilt angle, there is a convenient folding center armrest with cup holders and ventilation deflectors between the front seats. In a word, you can comfortably overcome more than one hundred kilometers.

You can't find fault with the driver's seat either. The seat is firm, with a well-defined profile, pronounced lateral support and a retractable cushion extension. Landing is low by crossover standards, but compared to other MINI models, the driver is quite high.

Ergonomics, when compared with its predecessor, has become normal. For example, the control of the power windows, which the previous Countryman did using the toggle switches on the center console, are now located like everyone else - on the driver's door. The central screen has become touch-sensitive, but for me personally, it is much more convenient for me to use the selector on the central tunnel - in fact, a modified joystick of the iDrive “BEM” interface. And, finally, the speedometer is no longer in the center of the front panel, as it was until now, but in front of the driver's eyes. Moreover, there is a retractable "glass" head-up display.

The trunk is also full - its 450-liter volume allows you to hold enough things. In addition, the compartment increases if you move the rear sofa forward by 13 cm, if you fold the backs of this very sofa at all, you get a flat floor in the back. In the underground, in the basic equipment there is another niche for luggage, but for a surcharge it can be filled with a stowaway. The rear door is electrically operated with a “foot” opening function (by moving the foot under the bumper). If the owner likes to relax in nature, the car can be equipped with a picnic bench with protection from dirt, installed right there - in the trunk.

Turbodiesel happiness

While in the cabin, it is practically impossible to understand that there is a turbodiesel under the hood: there are almost no vibrations during its operation, and the characteristic "chirping" is heard only when the windows are open. And how he pulls! When the accelerator pedal is pressed, the turbo pause effect is completely absent even with the "standard" engine and gearbox settings, and if you switch to the "dynamic" mode, the car begins to respond to fuel supply with the agility of a small sports car. At the same time, the 8-band "automatic" switches faster, smoother and more skillful than a professional driver, but when you want to drive economically, you can turn on the "green" mode. In this case, the accelerator pedal becomes a little "dull", and the number of kilometers won in the "standard" driving mode is displayed in green numbers on the tachometer dial. I tried a little and ... turned on the "sport" settings. Because this car is impossible to drive calmly!

It seems like there's nowhere to rush, but I'm going faster traffic flowangry at "slugs" and speed cameras. I'd rather get out of the city, away from busy highways: there are winding roads in mind, which are quite free from other cars, and I really need to go there ...

What a pleasant weight the small, sharp steering wheel is poured into, making only 2.5 turns from lock to lock, how great is this crossover with 165 mm ground clearance, almost without heeling, screwing into turns! I enjoy the "tasty" controls and their precise responses to my actions. Now the tires squeak in the corners, and I pick up speed, reveling in my merger with the car! And even on the verge of slipping, it's easy to feel the balance of the crossover. This is a real MINI, no discounts on size and increased center of gravity!

Surprisingly, the new Countryman feels great on highways with long straight and gentle turns. I remember that the predecessor behaved rather nervously in such conditions. Here, the sharp steering wheel does not prevent the driver from feeling confidently on high speedbecause it has a very clear zero. And the crossover practically does not react to rutting, despite the optional 18-inch "shoe", two sizes larger than the standard configuration. And the turbodiesel, which carries "only" 150 hp, continues to pull cheerfully at a speed of 130 km / h, allowing you to easily overtake.

It would seem that with such sports settings and a high body, the crossover chassis should be furiously tough, as evidenced by the previous generation model. However, nothing of the kind! Yes, the suspension is tight, the car repeats the profile of the road surface and "itches" a little on the pimples of the asphalt, but it swallows all the patches and cracks with a bang, while the driver and passengers have a feeling of the high energy intensity of the chassis. Only on large potholes does the suspension kick in, but overall the comfort level is not bad. And for the MINI, the ride is unprecedented. If you "change" the car into standard 16-inch wheels, and even abandon the "runflat" (the test specimen has 18-inch Runflats), the Countryman will certainly become even more comfortable.

And the sound insulation is better: although the hum from the tires is clearly audible in the cabin, it is not strong enough to be annoying. All other noises are perfectly balanced and none of them stand out.

The new MINI Countryman is the first car in a couple recent years made me drive past his house in the evening and go for the night looking to ride on the country tracks. He wins the hearts of the weaker sex with his charismatic appearance and unique interior, while he captivates men with honed driving performance... It remains only to find 2,100,000 rubles - this is how much this test copy costs.
