Asceticism reigns inside the cabin. Isuzu D-Max has multimedia, but there is no navigation in it even in the most expensive versions... There are other oddities as well. So, the USB connector is present, but for some reason this is a mini-USB, you cannot insert a regular USB flash drive into it. Why they did this is unclear. An adapter is indispensable. We should also mention the absence of a parking camera, which is very necessary for a 5.2 meter long car. Alas, Isuzu D-Max does not even have parking sensors.

True, the Japanese remembered that it can be cold in Russia, so there is a winter package here. This is a battery with increased capacity, plus improved thermal insulation of some elements power plant... There are also heated seats. However, the developers did not go deep into the topic of insulation, and therefore there is neither heated glass nor heated steering wheel. But the Japanese reasoned that the low-volume forced engine in Russia might not be understood. And they brought us the classics. This motor has long been well known, because it was put on a lot different models, including on commercial transport... It can be paired with a 5-speed automatic, but we had a more correct version on our test - with a six-speed manual.

Controllability and maneuverability

The automaker's website has a list of technical characteristics of the Isuzu D-Max, but there is no such parameter as acceleration to 100 km / h. In fact, just isuzu brand in this sense, you can understand. It mainly manufactures trucks, and this model also belongs to the category of commercial vehicles, for which acceleration is not very important. But in fairness, we note that he is not painfully nimble. On the other hand, the engine is understandable, high-torque and for a leisurely diesel car Isuzu D-Max works quite logically.

As for the handling, I cannot say that the car has some critical rolls in the corners, but it is, of course, soft, imposing, waddling. At the same time, the pickup behaves decently on small irregularities. During the test drive, we drove an unloaded Isuzu D-Max. As a rule, cars with rear suspension spring, with an empty body behave very tough. It is more or less acceptable here. What's a little frustrating is the noise isolation. It is clear that the car is ascetic, but at a speed of 100 km / h, the interior is literally filled with noise from the road, from tires, and, unfortunately, there is no need to talk about acoustic comfort.

Practicality and comfort

If you are in a pickup truck, you should always look behind the back of the back sofa. The fact is that this car has a hefty cargo body, but there is no normal trunk. But there is a whole bunch of small things that are extremely inconvenient to store there. The only complaint about the box is the thoughtfulness in kick-down mode, but hardly anyone decides to go for a sharp overtake in a diesel pickup. Isuzu D-Max - frame, rear springs are installed. Therefore, in corners at speed, judging by the feedback from the owners, it falls down uncritically, which is understandable and predictable. But the car keeps a straight line perfectly at any speed, without steering and unnecessary sideways. The power steering is humanely tuned, which did not affect the information content of the steering wheel.

Under normal conditions, the car is driven by the rear wheels, and if necessary, the front axle can be connected with a slight movement of the hand by pressing one button. Front axle connects at speeds up to 100 km / h, but in order to engage a lower gear, you have to stop. But like a car rowing on sand or on a slippery slope! There is nothing better than a high-torque diesel engine. He confidently drags even a fully laden pickup along the track, and over loose snow, and over muddy clay (hey, Prado, you don't need a tug?) And to find a suitable ravine for diagonal hanging, so that the Isuzu D-Max rotates helplessly wheels, you have to try hard. But even in this situation, the pickup has a trump card in its sleeve - a self-locking differential of the rear continuous axle. The wheelbase is 3095 mm, the track of the front and rear wheels is 1570 mm each, the minimum turning radius is 6.1 m. The car is equipped with 255/65 R17 tires. An exclusive package is the Arctic Trucks AT35 version with improved cross-country characteristics: off road tires 320/70 R17, increased ground clearance to 290 mm and widened track of both axles (1644 mm each), reinforced suspension, increased entry and exit angles.

The basic configuration of Isuzu D-MAX includes ESC, ABS, EBD and Brake Assist systems, front airbags for the driver and front passenger, side airbags for the driver and front passenger, side curtain airbags for the front and back row seats. Also installed are active head restraints, three-point seat belts for all seats (front with pretensioners and load limiters). Cars with a double cab have ISOFIX mounts on the rear outboard seats and additional upper mounts for installing remote controls, child locks in the rear doors.
