Nevertheless, the work on improving the quality of products at KamAZ is being carried out very seriously, and this is bearing fruit.

Updated KAMAZ-53215

Today we will test the first model mastered by KAMAZ. This is a flatbed truck with an index of 5320, with a lifting capacity of 8 tons, equipped with a 210-horsepower engine. The machine could also be used with a trailer of similar carrying capacity.

The instance on which the test drive is carried out represents upgraded version KamAZ-53215 with a turbocharged 260-horsepower power unit. Its carrying capacity has been increased to 11 tons. In comparison with the basic version, progress is obvious, and comments are unnecessary here.

In addition to the model we are testing, KamAZ also produces versions with 320 and 360-horsepower engines with fuel equipment that meets the Euro-2 standard.

"KamAZ" -53215 is offered to customers in various configurations. So, options are offered with an awning or without it. Often, the awning is not used, and the possibility of purchasing a truck in a simpler configuration and more affordable pricecertainly attracts buyers.

How much is new in this well-worn truck? New, and not slightly refurbished a little. This is, first of all, a more powerful turbocharged power unit and tires of standard size 300 / 508R20, allowing speeds up to 110 km / h.

The design of the transmission remained the same - and the five-speed gearbox, and the axles, and the caradan were not changed. True, the gear ratio of the gearboxes has changed in the bridges, which allows the engine to reach maximum power at 2200 rpm.

There are no changes in the cockpit equipped with a seating area. It was slightly renovated, however, the suspension to the frame and the interior remained the same.

Now a few comments. If necessary, it is almost impossible to lift the cab with a berth on our KamAZ alone. With this difficult task, making a lot of efforts, we coped with it together. Perhaps we will be advised to adjust the torsion bar. However, when dealing with absolutely new car, barely rolled off the conveyor, all mechanisms and units must be adjusted at the factory.

In addition, on almost all modern trucks, including other KAMAZ models, this task is performed by a hydraulic drive, and it is quite appropriate to equip this model with a hydraulic drive.

Test Drive

Now let's get down to the actual test drive. The first cold start of the engine surprised not only us, but also the staff of the test site where we conducted the tests. After starting a cold engine, the usual exhaust was not visible in the rearview mirror. No smoke - neither black nor oily! Having brought the pressure in the pneumatic system up to the required indicators, we set off, rejoicing that the quality of the Kama trucks has increased significantly.

We got to the gas station using only the upper row of the divider. Leaving the gas station was not very convenient, and we had to move to the bottom row of the divider. And here the problems began.

Neither disengaging the clutch nor changing the timing helped - the car stands rooted to the spot. Five minutes were conjuring with the divider switch and the clutch pedal. Finally, with what already attempts, it was possible to engage a lower gear. So much for the improved quality!

The empty KamAZ left a pleasant impression on the highway. The engine did not bother with noise, it is quite possible to talk with the passenger in an undertone. I liked the dynamics of the truck, the climbs are overcome imperceptibly. Some inconvenience is caused by vibration. However, there were no expectations of a change for the better in this matter, since the cab mounts, front suspension and seats, on which the vibration level depends, remained unchanged.

Note that the test drive was carried out in early spring, and the presence of wet snow could not but affect both the average speed and the fuel consumption. On a dry road, fuel consumption will undoubtedly be lower.

In a word, on the highway, we did not have any serious complaints about an unloaded car, we used only overdrive when driving.

On the dynamometer, we immediately felt the wet asphalt under the wheels and the absence of snow cover. Here, the fuel consumption parameters at certain speeds turned out to be comparable to the summer one. We managed to accelerate to 103.7 km / h on a truck, which is very good for a truck intended for intercity transportation. It should be noted that the power unit, after warming up, maintains optimal thermal conditions, and does not cool down when operating on low speeds, which is typical of Yaroslavl diesel engines.

Having finished the test drive of the empty truck, we loaded the maximum 11 tons for this model.

On the track simulating a city road, we immediately felt an increase in the car's weight. When overcoming hills and acceleration, it became necessary to turn on the divider. When the pedal was depressed for up to 1.5 seconds, the clutch was engaged without any problems, however, on uphills, there was a need to halve this time.

The average speed while driving on the route decreased by only 1 km / h, which indicates that there is sufficient traction for towing a trailer. However, due to the lack of a trailer, we were not able to test KamAZ as part of a road train.

Having finished with the imitation of city traffic, we head to the dynamometer road. Here the speed decreased slightly and the fuel consumption indicators increased. According to these indicators, comparison with foreign counterparts is not in favor of our KamAZ. If a Scania with a 310 horsepower engine with an empty semi-trailer at 80 km / h consumes about 27 liters per 100 km. way, then KamAZ without a trailer "drinks" more than 30 liters.

Of course, the difference is significant, but KamAZ benefits from a lower price. In most cases, it is due to the significantly lower cost russian consumers and make a choice in favor of KamAZ.

Nevertheless, the situation may change over time, and Chelny car manufacturers should not relax. Today's KamAZ trucks no longer have the number of imperfections that buyers had to deal with several years ago.

However, the work on improving the quality that has been done to date is only the first step towards creating cars that meet world standards. Kamaz employees should work more actively to create a new lineup, while paying serious attention to increasing the resource of manufactured vehicles.
