Bad is the BMW water that does not dream of "emka". Rostislav dreamed of M3 as a student. And thoughts and a leisurely search for a living specimen occupied him during the period of ownership of the 535d in the back of the E60. At 110,000 km, it was decided to service the cooling system. After removing and flushing the radiators, Rostislav replaced the thermostat, the coolant pump, the fan viscous coupling, all the belts and rollers with tensioners and filled in the original antifreeze. That cost 65,000 rubles.

A little later, just before the 2015 summer season began, it was time to do some serious braking. Replacing all the pads and discs in a circle, including a set of pads for the parking brake, pad wear sensors, caliper sealing kits and brake fluid replacement, cost 75,000 rubles. In the same summer, the engine valve clearance was adjusted, the valve cover gasket and the Vanos system gaskets were replaced. Taking into account new candles and 6 liters of Addinol Super Racing oil, the price of the work was 45,000 rubles.


The replacement of the CV joint of the propeller shaft cost the same amount due to the backlash that appeared with a mileage of 118,000 km. At the same time, in order not to remove the propeller shaft again, the oil in the gearbox was changed. At the same run, it was the turn of the oil separator of the crankcase ventilation system. Together with a set of necessary hoses, the installation cost 12,000 rubles.

Rostislav found it, but as always could not resist and ordered a heap of new caps and internal thresholds. Total - 40,000 rubles.


When buying, Rostislav noticed that the left driver's high-frequency speaker Harman Kardon wheezes. While waiting for the ordered speaker, I realized that the rear right midrange was not working either. As a result, all the acoustics were replaced, except for the speakers in the rear shelf. Exploitation

Most of these expenses could be avoided or cut in half, but perfectionism is an expensive disease. One washer nozzle stopped working, and the second washes poorly? BMW M3 E92 S65 engine reliability, problems and repair

Traditionally, every new car model becomes larger than the previous one, and the M3 is no exception. Compared to the M3 E46, with its S54, the E90 / E92 gained about 200 kg, which means that a completely different engine is needed for a dynamic ride. BMW M GmbH solved this problem and in 2007 a new M3 was shown with the S65B40 engine (the first V8 on the M3).
This engine was developed on the basis of the S85B50 by removing two cylinders from the V10 and turning it into a V8, with a displacement of 4 liters. The cylinder block is the same design as on the S85, with an inter-cylinder distance of 98 mm, the connecting rods and pistons are the same as on the M5 engine.
The cylinder heads are similar in design, but the Double-VANOS variable valve timing system has been redesigned and there is no separate high-pressure oil pump. Adjustment range for intake camshafts 58 °, exhaust 48 °. Camshafts on M3 E92: phase 256/256, lift 11.35 / 11.35 mm. The valves and springs are the same as those used in the S85. At the inlet, 8 throttle valves are used, two rows of 4 each, with a receiver optimized for them, the design is similar to the S85. The capacity of the standard nozzles is 192 cc. Exhaust manifolds 4-1. Siemens MS S60 is used as a control unit.
Thanks to all this, the S65B40 engine develops 420 hp. at 8300 rpm and spins up to 8400 rpm.
This engine was intended only for the BMW M3 in the back of the E90, as well as the E92 and E93.
BMW S65 was produced until 2013, after which, with the release of the new M3 F80 and M4 F82, it was replaced with a turbocharged inline six S55.
